Winters bone magazine
1. Winter's bone Empire magazine review analysis
THE TITLES:
Empire magazine seem to be sticking to a house style in this months edition of a dark teal, white and gold colour way, however due to the dark navy colour of the picture, which is where the title is located, they have chosen to go with a white title to make it stand out from the dark background image. They still stick to this house style by using dark teal on the enlarged quote and titles in a text box and some gold is still used.
THE PICTURE:
one of the most important things in a glossy magazine film review is the picture. Generally they are large and the text is wrapped around it, this is the case for this article. The image in this article is a screen shot from the film showing Rene Zellweger with a horse. The picture fills half of the page and helps to catch the readers eye when flicking threw the magazine.
THE TEXT:
The main text is a very basic black font which I think is effective because it helps make the images and bold titles stand out when help to make the viewer want to read the text.
LANGUAGE USED:
The language isn't formal and is relatively straight forward, however it isn't so informal as for instance; a tabloid. This helps to appeal to the target audience, which is very broad.
OTHER TEXT BOXES:
There is a box at the beginning of the article which includes information like the release date, director, the cast and plot. This additional box is great for injecting more information into the article and is visually a good method.
ENLARGED QUOTE:
The enlarged quote says quot;
LAWRENCE'S PERFORMANCE IS A TRULY STANDOUT PIECE OF WORKquot;
. The quote helps to promote the film via the writers own opinion. The text is in capital letters and has a gold font and dark teal highlight to make it stand out from from the main body of text.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the magazine article is to inform and advertise to readers about this newly released film, but to also entertain readers.
AUDIENCE:
The audience for the magazine in general is adults and especially people interested in media and movies. This review in particular has a more feminine audience due to the type of film it is that is being reviewed.
