3. SKIMMING
is a reading technique to quickly
glance through a reading
material to get the main ideas
or overall impression of the
content of text.
4. Eg: When you read a newspaper,
you don’t read it starting from the
first page to the end. You will turn
the pages and skim the headings to
find an article that interests you.
5. When you find the article, again, you might
not read it word per word.
Sometimes, you only read the first and last
paragraph, look at the charts, tables or figures
or just find the underlined, italicized or
boldface words of phrases.
6. SKIMMING
STEPS
1. Read the titles or
headings or
subheadings.
2. Read the
introduction of the
first paragraph.
3. Read the first
sentence of every
paragraph.
4. Look at any
visual aids such as
pictures, charts, or
tables.
5. Notice
underlined, italicized
or boldface words
or phrases.
6. Read the
conclusion of the
text.
