5. CONCEPT
• Learning situation are most natural and common in life and
everyone of us is learning one thing or the other, although
he may not necessarily aware of it. An individual starts
learning immediately after his birth.
The behavior of an individual is changed through direct or
indirect experiences. This change in behavior brought about
by experience is commonly known as learning.
6. Process Of Learning
Mr. Smith- “The learning process involves a motive or drive, an attractive goal and a block
to the attainment of goal. All these are essential.”
Steps in Process of Learning
1) Motive or Drive- Motives are the dynamic force that energize behavior and compel the
child to act. Every individual has to take care of the satisfaction of his needs. As long as our
present behavior, knowledge, skill and performance are adequate to satisfy our needs, we do
not feel any necessity to change our behavior or acquire new knowledge and skills. It is this
requirement which initiates to learn something.
2) Goals - Motives and needs of the learner demand their satisfaction. For this purpose he
has to set definite goals and aims for achievement. Definiteness of the aim and setting of the
goals helps in making the learning purposeful and interesting. The goal attracts us to learn.
3) Obstacle/barrier/block – It is in terms of some obstacles or barrier that keeps us from
attaining goal. If we face no difficulty of any kind in attaining goal , we need not bring any
change in our present behavior., stock of knowledge and skills. This means that we have no
necessity to learn.
