A sound mind is found in
a sound body. Sound
physical health vigour
and vitality to pursue
learning activities.
Therefore a healthy child
can much more than an
unhealthy child.
4. Food and drink
Efficient mental working requires balanced
diet Poor nutrition affects the body and the
mind of the individual and thus his learning
activities also.
5. Age
• The learning capacity of the individual varies
with his age. Some subjects can easily learnt at
the early age and some during adulthood.
Children learn school subjects better than
grown – up adults.
6. Time of Learning
Our mental capacity differs during the
different hours of the day. For children
morning hours are the best for learning.
7. Fatigue
Fatigue of any type leads to mental
boredom and indolence and thus
affects learning. The causes which
may bring about mental or physical
fatigue to the child.
In the school a poor seating
arrangement in the classroom, poor
lighting system, noisy atmosphere
affects the learning capacity of the
child.
8. Sense perception
A child with weaker sense perceptions learns
less in comparison to a child, who has a strong
nervous system and who keeps his eye, ears
and nose open.
10. Sound mental health
Learning requires concentration and it needs a
mental balance of the child.
This balance means that the child should be
free from mental conflicts.
A child with sound mental health learns much
more, in comparison to a child, who lacks it.
11. Proper motivation
Motivation leads to interest, interest leads
to attention, attention leads to concentration
and concentration to permanent learning.
The teacher should always keep in view that
he presents the right motive, at the right
moment and in the right way.
12. Success praise and blame
Psychologically proved that young children, when
the are praise, are stimulated to work hard. This,
however, does not work in the case of grown up
children.
In the case of blame, the younger children are not
so sensitive as the elder ones are. They therefore
should be blamed if they deserve it. It is only in
this case that blame will have the desired effect
of encouraging the child to learn more.
13. Reward and Punishments
Reward provide an incentive to learn. But
they should not be misused it any way. It is
not possible to reward all learning
immediately.
Punishment arouses fear and sometimes
influences the child to work and learn.
15. Working conditions
Effective learning is only possible in a healthy
atmosphere. It is hampered by bad working
conditions like nose. Poor lighting, poor
ventilation, etc.
16. Organisational set up
The following organizational factors are
important for effective teaching:
I. The time table should be well framed and
should be based on psychological principles.
II. Self – government may be introduced in the
schools.
III. The pupil-teacher relationship should be
healthy and cordial.
