The And Placebo Effect On Human Sciences
Since every object, event and story can be interpreted from multiple perspectives, people gain their
knowledge in a way largely influenced by the perspective. It is difficult to be convinced of any
knowledge that is without bias. The knowers all pursue the answer to their questions when
researching or learning the knowledge, which results in the similar way of thinking among the
similar communities. Few can detach themselves from the contemporary situation since the cultural
background, various eras, and diverse ways of knowing all help to shape the pursuit of knowledge.
While to a great extent I consider perspective as an essential factor in obtaining knowledge as
examples can be extracted from my Chinese cultural background, the ... Show more content on

Although the Chinese government promised to investigate the incident thoroughly, many western
media bitterly criticized the supervision system of food safety in China. From different perspective,
the foreign reporters did not have the intention to harbor the crime of the Chinese food companies
and the incompetence of Chinese ruling system. Moreover, foreign journalists began to suspect that
the Chinese press may have delayed reporting the incident in order to keep the "perfect" appearance
during the Olympic Games. For the 2008 Chinese milk scandal, the Chinese press held the
perspective which mostly preserves the prestige of Chinese government, while the foreign press
boldly deduced and query about the truth from another aspect. Thus, considering different
perspectives when gaining the knowledge will help people to generate more inference and get closer
to the truth. Perspectives can be evolved and altered as the time is progressing. As a Chinese old
saying states, "the spectators see the chess game better than the players", many who live in the
moment are unable to objectively justify the contemporary events happened around them. Only the
descendants, analyzing from new perspective, can draw a conclusion more comprehensively while
learning the history. Historians from different eras hold diverse perspectives, leading to various
interpretations of a certain topic: "To what extent did Hitler's foreign

Principle of Management Course: My Experiences
Principle of Management Course: My Experiences
I believe that the Principles of Management course provided me with invaluable information which
will help in furthering both my professional as well as personal life. I believe that learning is a
process by which an individual undergoes certain changes. Also, during the learning process, many
of the beliefs which a person holds are challenged. I underwent various changes during this course.
This paper will explain those changes. Furthermore, I will detail the concepts, ideas and situations
which had the greatest impact on me. Before taking this course, my definition of the concept of
management would have been strictly based on power relationships within an organization, how to

At times, I possess an almost fanatical desire to achieve my goals.
This fanatical desire is so strong that it can override friendships, destroy relationships and alienate
people. I also began to notice that I had the tendency to act quite insensitive, inconsiderate and not
be approachable. Once I had identified this problem, I realized that I needed to diversify myself by
adding elements from the other roles, such as mentor and facilitator. I believed that if I
complemented my director/producer roles with elements from the mentor or facilitator roles, then
this would enable me to foster a collective effort, be sensitive towards the needs of individuals and
still be able to achieve my goals. This was the second phase of my learning: I had identified a
personal deficiency and needed to work towards complementing my director/producer roles with
roles from the Human Relations quadrant. One of the key concepts of management and the key
themes of the course was teamwork. We were organized into teams and the team was the unit by
which the Professor measured our performance. By working in a team–environment, I was able to
learn the value of multiple perspectives and the need to use different roles depending on the
situation. In analyzing Synergy, Inc., I learned that we had fused the three perspectives to create a
unique identity and structure. For instance, in the strategic design perspective, tasks were organized

Personal Narrative: Millinocket, Maine
There are many stories I could tell or different topics I could talk about that are important to me.
Some funny, some sad, and some I can not put an emotion with because they are a combination of
many. Millinocket, Maine, for those who do not know, is a small town that was the result of the
Great Northern Paper Mill which started over a hundred years ago. The Paper Mill that created the
town no longer exists, but Millinocket is trying to bring as much business as possible to replace
what was lost. Although the town is struggling, it is a great place to be and contributing to its future

Changing Perspective
People, especially diverse people of contemporary times commonly look at other people, situations,
or life events with different perspectives. Sometimes looking at other people, situations, and life
events with different perspectives cause people to make snap judgments without factual knowledge.
Contributors such as personal beliefs, religion, culture, mood, personality, and relative situations can
influence an interpretation of a person or event, cause a snap judgment, or possibly change another
perspective. Other contributors that add influence to the common influences of perspectives and
judgments are environments and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The woman's personal beliefs can be innate from learning experiences or a genetic inheritance that
reflects her personality type. Innate learning experiences or genetic inheritances of accepting people
of any race is possible in making a snap judgment to rent the apartment to the multiracial family.
The family inquiring about the apartment rental may have an influence regarding the woman's mood
too. Something in the situation such as politeness and enjoying the company of the children in the
family may have set the motion for the woman's mood. Another spark in the woman's mood can be a
reflection of her own children and family situations. Remembering her past, for example, maybe the
woman and her husband are immigrants from the Old World and difficulties with living
arrangements were part of her early family experiences. Another example of personal experience
can be knowledge to a similar situation quite rewarding in one way or another. Religiously the
woman in the scenario can similarly view the situation as going against the grain but from a
different perspective such as going against the grain of her higher power and accepting all
individuals. Many factors contribute to what influences individual perspectives and subsequent
judgments according to the perspectives. Commonly one influence can lead to another influence, for

Sport Is The Most Powerful Effect On Society
What is one of the most powerful effect on society? Everyone has its individual opinion about the
most powerful effect; however, majority of people consider that sport is an action that makes people
better in their psychological, mental and physical way. Sport is life style that helps to people to
overcome obstacles, poverty, illnesses and depression. From 17,300 years ago people realize that
every person who wants to be healthy should do sport everyday and it should become their daily
routine. Researchers claim that people should train their every muscle everyday. It will help them to
stay in good mood, to stay healthy and be in tonus. In addition, sport having this much advantages

From the point of functionalist, sport might have significant positive effects on society such as;
football and track and field in African countries and biathlon and ski racing in Scandinavian
countries. Moreover, various examples show that sport affects to society in positive and inspirational
way. For instance, football and track and field are so popular among African juveniles. The reason
is, majority of African countries are poor and don't have enough resources and opportunity to build
track, stadiums and sport complex. Another point is that, in Scandinavian countries 80 % of
population are involved in winter sports. Parents prefer to take their children to winter sports instead
of other sport activities. Functionalist, would assert that it affects on society from many positive
aspects. First is that a lot of African sportsman are popular in European countries and earn a lot of
money. By doing this they donate money to African government and create opportunity to develop
sport in their country. Secondly, developing biathlon and ski racing in Scandinavian counties, helps
people to reduce stress, entertain, relieve depression and do sport instead of wasting time on drugs

Analysis Of ' The Lottery '
Since reading The Lottery by Shirely Jackson, I've been thinking more about culture, traditions, and
perspective. Not just that, but how it can sometimes take adopting an unbiased, non judgmental, or
outside perspective in order to see things for what they really are. The way that the narrator in this
story adopts such a position allows for a clearer view of the events of the story.
In The Lottery, the narrator speaks to us in a non participant and objective manner. We hear and see
events unfold from an outside, "fly on the wall", perspective. No critique or judgement on the events
is provided by the narrator; we only can ascertain judgements and feelings from what the characters
do and say. By allowing us this viewpoint, we can make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Pack of crazy fools," he said. "Listening to the young folks, nothing 's good enough for them. Next
thing you know, they 'll be wanting to go back to living in caves, nobody work any more, live hat
way for a while. Used to be a saying about 'Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon. ' First thing you
know, we 'd all be eating stewed chickweed and acorns. There 's always been a lottery," he added
petulantly. "Bad enough to see young Joe Summers up there joking with everybody." "Some places
have already quit lotteries." Mrs. Adams said. "Nothing but trouble in that," Old Man Warner said
stoutly. "Pack of young fools."(257).
Tradition and ritual customs hold a really powerful sway. In the story, we read about how things
have subtlety shifted overtime in the ritual, or the artifacts used during it, yet it continues on. It 's an
accepted norm that no one wants to upend. This made me think about how our cultures customs
have shifted with time, but how many aspects remain unchanged. It could be for nearly anything,
such as how holidays are celebrated, or rituals like weddings, or how challenges to old norms are
often viewed with intrepidation or skepticism.
If the author would have adopted a participant point of view in this story, we probably would have
gained more insight into the rationales for holding an annual lottery to stone someone. All we can
ascertain is that the practice is an old

A Shift Of Perspective On My Family
A Shift in Perspective
Friends,
I would like you to imagine being in a country where your family has moved but you have never
visited before. You do not speak the language. Every word you hear except from the small portion of
your family is unfamiliar and confusing. There is no implicit definition for many of these syllables
and even if there were, you would not know it, but this culture intrigues you. These people live a life
like you have never seen.
In the safety of your family's beautiful neighborhood, you decide to wander. The sun shines above
you. The air is brisk in a way you haven't quite experienced. You are bundled up to protect against
this unfamiliar cool. A hat pulled low to keep the heat in against the February chill.
You find yourself fascinated more with every step. These people lives are so different from your
own. You study this community in awe of what you are seeing. You wander between property lines
of which you are unaware, unknowingly breaking the code of this culture.
This atmosphere of beauty shifts when you are approached by two men clothed identically approach
you from a marked vehicle. You identify them as law enforcers, but you are uncertain of how you
will answer their questions. Their words come too quickly for you to even partially comprehend. A
terror swells in you to find someone to translate and mediate. You need your family here.
You begin to walk in the direction of your son's home, anxious and unsure of how else to
communicate what

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's The Danger Of A Single Story
"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you" (Maya Angelou). In a world
where often the majority's voice is heard, it is easy to see only one perspective. However,
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a female Nigerian writer, persuades her audience to seek knowledge
from multiple perspectives of a story. Prompted by the increasing tensions between global
populations, Adichie in "The Danger of a Single Story," speaks through personal anecdotes enabling
her reader to understand the importance of analyzing and understanding multiple perspectives in
stories. Throughout the first anecdote, Adichie explains the danger associated with seeing a single
perspective of a story. First, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie portrays the literature of her youth: "All
my characters were white and blue–eyed, they played in the snow, they ate apples, and they talked a
lot about the weather, how lovely it was that the sun had come out" (10–12). Through the use of
"white" and "blue–eyed" Adichie creates a sense of desire. By placing both words beside each other,
and emphasizing the physical descriptions of the characters, Adichie strengthens the racial hierarchy
present in western literature. This strategy causes Adichie to question her own racial identity,
making her feel less valued than her western counterparts. In addition, the quote illustrates an
impressionable tone in which she openly accepts the non–applicable western values. Similar to a
child, Adichie embraces a single perspective

Women's Basketball Game Summary
Analysis of the Management of a University of Tennessee Martin's Women's Basketball Game
The management of any given sporting event is thought by the common individual as an easy job to

case most of the time. Many problems will occur sporadically over the course of any sporting event.
For our group, the decision was made to observe a women's basketball game and the process of how
to effectively keep the event functioning. While observing the game itself as well as pregame and

Links Between Corporate Social Performance And Financial...
Literature review
In different streams of literature and thought, organisation have been called upon to measure,
manage and report on their environmental, social and governance performance. In addition to each
being recognised as important in its own right, various studies have sought to identify the links
between corporate social performance and financial performance (lee, et.al. 2009; peloza, 2009). A
challenge for proponents of these non– traditional dimensions of performance has been to find ways
to integrate them into existing performance measurement regimes (Figge,et al.,2002). This is
important because the way in which individuals are measured and reward will impact on the
decision that they make. To extent that evaluation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A consistent finding is that evaluators rely more heavily on those measures that they understand and
accept the importance of. Unable to simultaneously process all of the measures, evaluators must
focus on a subset or find some other way to decrease the cognitive complexity of the task, and this
introduces bias. Subsequent research has sought to identify ways to reduce this bias to avoid
strategically important measures being ignored. The biases identified in previous research, and other
biases, may be exacerbated by the introduction of an additional perspective to measure
environmental, social, or governance performance. This has important implications for the inclusion
environmental measures. Figge et al. (2002) consider three options for including environmental
performance in BSC format. The first is to integrate measures in to existing four perspectives, the
second is to develop a separate sustainability scorecard, and the third is to add an additional, fifth
perspective to the traditional BSC. Kaplan and Wisner (2009) provide an empirical evaluation of the
effects of including environmental performance as a separate BSC perspective, or integrating those
measures into the traditional four perspectives. They find that providing a separate a separate
environmental perspective is not effective unless decision makers receive additional information
about the strategic importance of those

Short–term orientation (LTO) retrained focuses on the degree the society embraces, or does not
embrace, short–term devotion to keeping up with the joneses (Itim international, 2015). "There is a
dramatic need for a comprehensive strategy of Eurozone stability, institutional consolidation, and
economic recovery and development that goes to the roots of the trouble, and places the necessary

The United States is one of the most persistence or cultural, personal fulfilling countries in the world

Rhetorical Analysis Of Games By Steve Johnson
"If you put yourself in an environment with lots of different perspectives, you yourself are going to
have better, sharper, more original ideas," stated Steve Johnson in an interview with Salon Media

knowledge of other perspectives. Also, the new ideas will encourage debate and conversation. Not
only will other people's views enhance ideas, but also is crucial for writing on a topic.
Acknowledging opposing perspectives will give a writer more authority on the subject being
discussed. Also, it gives the audience an opportunity to respect an author. In Steve Johnson's essay,

already showing he has done his research and writes about "Dr. Spock" and what he must say about
video games (196). Afterwards, Johnson introduces another source he has studied, this time about
reading, written by Andrew Solomon (197). Both studies Johnson introduces shows he has
researched both video games and reading. Later in his piece, Johnson writes, "When I read these
ostensibly positive accounts of video games..." (200). Johnson is showing the audience he is
analyzing video games for himself by reading about them and the actual content of the games.
Concluding his piece, he states that video games can be hard (Johnson 201). This statement implies
Johnson has played video games himself, otherwise he would be contradicting himself of what he
says in the context. He talks about the gap between people who have or have not played them.
People who have not played them cannot talk about them "coherently" (201). Therefore, Johnson
must have played video games and gained a personal experience that makes him qualified to write

John Stapleford's book, Bulls, Bears, and Golden Calves, provides a thorough overview with a
Christian perspective of economic and ethical analysis. He reviews the moral challenges of macro,
micro, and international economic issues. Stapleford covers a variety of important public policy
issues such as self–interest, economic efficiency, and private property rights. He begins the book by
laying a foundation of ethical thought and an analytical framework. Stapleford provides a Biblical
perspective on the practical issues facing our current society. For example, there are three billion
people in the world who live on less than $2 a day (Stapleford, 2009). The wealthy Americans

He explains property rights, their practical need in our society, and the Biblical and ethical
implications. Stapleford places great emphasis on the blend of ethics and economics
In the beginning of the book, he says "ethics is inexorably intertwined with economic life and
analysis" (Stapleford, 2009). Stapleford presents a strong analysis of economic issues with a
Christian perception that aligns with Biblical truths. He urges his audience to avoid the temptation
of idolatry and materialism but to live a selfless life of sacrifice. Stapleford claims that "there is
sanctity in all of labor, and without God's involvement human labor is futile. In whatever we do,
Christians are to do it heartily as unto the Lord, for we do not labor for the food that perishes but for
the food that endures to everlasting life" (Stapleford, 2009).
The theme of overemployment is a current problem in the United States. Americans are overworked.
Workload has increased and society has experienced a loss of leisure. Overemployment and

Similar to the concept of incentives in economics that describe people make decision according to
incentives offered which is further clarified in the law of demand where consumers have the
incentives to buy more when price is lower. Both families' situations have given them the incentives
to come to the United States for better living. The incentives are freedom from political persecution,
greater opportunities for jobs, and economic stability. Opportunity cost will also occur when it
comes to making choices whether in economic decision or in daily basis. In this situation, the
opportunity cost for those refugees are loss of trust in their countries, broken relationship with their
familiar neighborhood, and deviation from their familiar tradition and culture. Incentives and
opportunity cost are then used to measure their economic profit by moving to the United States just
like the way economists calculate economic profit in economic context. The difference is that in
economic context we are provided with quantitative data while in this case we are provided with
qualitative data. However the logic remains the same, if gains from the decision are greater than the
opportunity cost it is economic profit. The refugees in this case have more incentives to come to
United States because of the gains obtained from moving exceed their opportunity cost which is also

New Swipe Card System At London Heathrow Airport
As described by Palmer, Dunlap & Akin, at the start of the peak holiday season, British Airways
(BA) employees at London Heathrow airport participated in a 24 hour wildcat strike due to the
implementation of a timeswipe card system that would monitor the employees ' clocked– in–and–
out hours. To the executives, this change represented an improvement in technology that would
increase organizational efficiency. To the staff, however, this change represented something entirely
different; distrust and disrespect.BA executives had a history of ensuring that the organization was
taken care of at the expense of its employees. Jobs were cut, agreements were broken, and this new
swipe card system was just another example of the executives finding a way to monitor and control
the staff to the organization 's economic gain. The staff feared that management would monitor their
hours and send them home during off hours and then call them back to duty at peak hours. In
addition, the way in which the change was communicated to the staff was what propelled the staff to
revolt. The executives sprung the change initiative on the staff with little warning and provided
inconsistent reasons for the necessity of the change. This made it nearly impossible for the staff to
accept or adjust to the change in a positive way.
The strike resulted in enormous losses to BA in terms of customers, employee morale, and overall
company reputation. Executives at BA did take a step back and reflect on their

Compare And Contrast Jack And Ralph In Lord Of The Flies
In the classic novel, The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, it explores the themes of the
different perspectives and ideologies humans use to civilize themselves. In the novel, the main
protagonist Ralph best represents the logical point of view, attempting to conserve the utopian
island, while the antagonist Jack best illustrates the savage point of view, which results in the
creation of a dystopia based on his lust for enjoyment. In Lord of The Flies, even though both Ralph
and Jack represent different ideologies, they do possess some similarities between them. While both
characters have different leading styles, it can be argued that they are effective leaders. They are
both adverse in inspiring those their followers, the boys in the island, with Ralph using hope for
returning to motivate the rest of the boys stranded in the island, while Jack uses fear against the
beast as a catalyst for his seizing of power. In my opinion, this similarity is the reason why these two
different pathways were capable of remaining popular among the boys or what they symbolize,
society. The reason for this is because as social creatures, humans need to have a high morale to be
able to achieve progress, which is something that requires capable leaders. Jack used a particularly
cruel method by making the beast as a sort of religion for the boys by using it as a figurehead for his
power. He treated the beast like a deity when he stated that the, "head is for the beast. It's a gift"

Life Perspectives In Amy Tan's 'Two Kinds'
Life experiences shape and mold us into the people we are today. These experiences form and create
our opinions on everything we see in life. Everything from our family to society heavily influence
our perspectives, whether we realize it or not. Experiences directly make up our perspectives.
Family members heavily influence our perspectives. From the time we are born our parents begin
teaching us beliefs and values that are "right" in their eyes. Amy Tan, the author of "Two Kinds"
talks about how it was living with a strict, traditional mother. In chunk 6, paragraph 67 Amy's
mother states "'Only two kinds of daughters.' She shouted in Chinese. 'Those who are obedient and
those who follow their own minds! Only one kind of daughter can live in this house. Obedient
daughter!'" Her mother drilled this idea into her mind, which definitely affected her to a large extent.
Her mother's expectations were too much, and she could never fulfill them. In her mother's eyes she
was a disappointment, and this experience changed her perspective on what's important in a person.
Another example of family influencing our perspectives is shown in "An Indian Father's Plea" by
Medicine Grizzly Bear. In the personal letter from a father to his son's teacher he expresses his
concerns for his sons education. Pg(99) "'My son Wind Wolf, is not an empty glass coming into your
class to be filled. He is a full basket coming into a different environment and a society with

Historical Evolution And The Socio -economic Perspectives...
Intro
The aim of this report is to explore the historical evolution and the socio –economic perspectives of
National Health Service (NHS) and Mental Health individuals. The report will explore the history as
far as early Nineteenth Century to the present–day. The main focus will be on policies and
legislation influenced the foundation of NHS and how it has progressed to meet mental health
individual's needs. The report will also address the needs of individuals, resourced, stigma and
discrimination for the mental health individuals. Blakemore (2003) Blakemore further questioned
social policies intention to improve human welfare and to meet individual's biopsychosocial needs.
Changes were not just influenced by policies and legislation, they were also influenced by funding,
organisation of the service delivery and influential people who felt the need for change.
During the 19th and beginning of 20th centuries, there was an extension of amendments to the Poor
Law. The health service in the United Kingdom was provided by private care and charities. The

Different Perspectives In Octavia Butler's Kindred
In Octavia Butler's Kindred, Dana and Kevin both experience many unbelievable events that change
their sense of reality. They each travel back to the antebellum South for different amounts of time,
gaining different insights from the same events. Kevin, a white man, travels back to a time of
privilege, while his wife Dana, a black woman, travels back to a time of hardship and enslavement.
Their contrasting perspectives cause them to see the world differently. For example, Kevin draws
from his sole point of view, while Dana uses her own perspective with other people's perspectives.
No matter when or where they are, Dana and Kevin determine the truth through what see and what
they already know.
Kevin and Dana first conflict when Dana returns to 1976 for the first time. Kevin is in disbelief
about where Dana went, as he suggests what she experienced was "a dream" (17). He says this
despite the fact that he saw Dana disappear and reappear, something out of the ordinary. His
perspective is different from Dana's, meaning what he sees isn't always what actually happens. Dana
goes back in time, while Kevin saw Dana "vanish and reappear" (16). Despite not knowing what
Dana experienced, he still believes his point of view is a fact. Kevin insists Dana's experience was a
"dream," and refers to his perspective as "facts" (16). By doing so, he asserts his perspective, the
white male perspective, is objective and truthful, while Dana's is illegitimate. Kevin's view is similar

Why School By Mike Rose Analysis
Beyond the Classroom Many are quick to disregard education's role outside of the classroom.
According to Mike Rose, "a good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in
it" (Rose 33). Rose emphasizes the value in the experience of education beyond the value of
education for the purpose of custom or intelligence; he explores the purpose of going to school in
terms of how he defines himself and his personal growth in the stages of his academic career. By
reflecting on his personal experiences and how those gave him the tools applicable to his daily life,
he emphasizes why education should never be overlooked. Rose's use of referencing relatable
experiences in a logical manner makes his argument persuasive to the readers and he succeeds in
making the readers reconsider why education matters to them. Mike Rose's Why School?:
Reclaiming Education for All of Us effectively persuades his audience of the importance of
education beyond the classroom, which proves true in our everyday lives because the essential
aspect of education is what we do with it and how it helps develop one's personal growth. Rose
elaborates on the significance of education by reflecting on his own perspective on how that shaped
his identity. His childhood gave him the opportunity to experience the contrast between a positive
learning environment and a negative one. This also shaped him to have an evident positive outlook
on education. It can be assumed that the right learning

The Tracker Analysis
The different perspectives create interest and draw us into the experiences of others. The two texts,
'The Tracker' composed by Rolf De Heer and 'Bran Nue Dae' composed by Rachel Perkins explores
this notion. Both films are evident to the racial discrimination of Aborigines in Australia. 'The
Tracker' is a 2002 art house film set in 1922. It is clear that there were no Aboriginal rights and
which white settlement had the greatest control. 'Bran Nue Dae' is a 2009 musical/comedy/drama
film set in 1969 about the beginning of Aboriginal rights. The different perspectives are from
Colonial/Indigenous people. The voices were through the role of the characters, the genre, the music
and the cinematography. The Archetypal characters in 'The Tracker' include The Follower, The
Fanatic, The Veteran, The Fugitive and The Tracker. Each character represents a different voice of a
group within society. The voices express the issue of race and racial inequality towards Aboriginals.
The three main archetypal characters involve The Fanatic, The Tracker and The Follower. The
Follower represents a group with a minimum voice. The follower playing the ukulele indicates that
he is new to this sort of work. The Follower learns to have a voice through the events he
experienced throughout his journey. Symbolism involves the burning of the ukulele. This conveys
the perspective of the follower towards what they are doing. The experience leads to him feeling
unhappy and wanting to change. This draws us into his experiences as we feel a strong connection
because most of us have gone through this in life. The Fanatic represents an aggressive and a
controlling group. The Fanatic was so excessive with finding the fugitive that he constantly
mistreated the Tracker. Dialogue includes "Sorry? You want to feel sorry for someone, feel sorry for
the pack–horse. Now there's an innocent victim". This shows that he was using The Tracker to find
the fugitive and which he does not consider his inner emotions. The audience is drawn to the
Fanatic's experiences because his perspective is interesting and is different compared to the others.
We feel a part of the story because we want to stop the Fanatic from doing any more harm. The

Essay On The Spirit Catches You And You Fall Down
Overview of the book
In the book "The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down," author Anne Fadiman presents a character
who suffered from epilepsy as a Hmong child who born on July 19, 1982, in Merced, California.
Being the fourteenth child of Foua Yang and Nao Kao Lee, Lia Lee was their favorite daughter.
They spoiled her and treated her like a princess; believed that her epilepsy marked her as special;
and that she might someday become a shaman, which is a person regards as having access to.
Because of their belief, the Lees were both concerned and proud of Lia. They brought her to the
Merced Community Medical Center (MCMC) for treatment, Meanwhile, they also practiced
traditional healing that involved call back her soul using tvic neeb. ... Show more content on

This book grapples with ethical dilemmas that can present themselves while working with people
from other cultures and professional disciplines.
Perspectives
From the perspective of the social worker Jeanine Hilt, systems perspective could be used to assess
Lia Lee, her family or those in the community of the book. System perspective sees human behavior
as the outcome of reciprocal interactions of persons operating within linked social systems
(Hutchison, 2013). When reading this book at the beginning, one may have thought of it as a story
about the collision of two cultures – a story about Lia Lee, Foua Yang and Nao Kao Lee, Neil Ernst
and Peggy Philp, and Jeanine Hilt–rather than Lia Lee's story. The lives of Lia Lee, Foua Yang and
Nao Kao Lee, Neil Ernst and Peggy Philp, and Jeanine Hilt were interrelated. In addition, the
influences of one and another's behavior had impacted the overall well–being of Lia Lee. The
mutual roles of caregiver parents and caregiver doctors had to keep adjusting their roles to
accommodate changing care needs. For example, the Lees believed in a little medicine and a little
neeb for treating Lia's epilepsy, under the circumstance, their beliefs impact Lia's illness when they
brought Lia to MCMC for treatment, while, practiced traditional healing to call back her soul.
Similarly, concerned for Lia's safety due to her parents' noncompliance with the medicine,

The Secret Of Empathy, Enlightenment, And Internal Growth...
The Secret of Empathy, Enlightenment, and Internal Growth There are two senses of reality:
external and internal. External reality is an observable universe, but perspectives differ and thus
cause different opinions. To experience internal reality is to confuse one's own reality with a shared
reality, resulting in a loss of empathy and disregarding how others are affected. An external mindset
displays an understanding of different opinions in a shared world, whereas with internal mindset a
person's devotion to a belief becomes their private world. When a person is passionate about their
beliefs they tend to disregard other perspectives, or live internally. This is a common practice
because, depending upon upbringing, different moral values have been instilled in the person.
Typically, people will not partake in activities or actions that defy their morality, so they tend to
align with others who share similar values. However, people who are unwilling to think beyond their
own beliefs lose their sense of empathy. The more devoted a person is to their morals, the less
empathy they might have. When we look outside ourselves to other perspectives, we can better
connect to an external rather than simply an internal reality, approaching the world with an
enlightened state of mind capable of both empathy and consistent growth. A less narrow–minded
person is capable of accessing an external reality. Typically, it seems that the more devout citizens
are more closed–minded. They

of the market economy consititutue one of the most remarkable changes .... The changes that it

the nation's debt rising and the amount of people who were living in poverty there was a need for

New Institutional Economics ( Nie ) Perspective :...
2.1 New Institutional Economics (NIE) perspective: Institutions Matter!
During the last decades the idea that high quality institutions are positively related to economic
growth and development (Acemoglu et al., 2005) has gained relevance in the mainstream academic
scene as well as within international organizations and cooperation agencies. The phrase Institutions
Matter! epitomizes the essence of the New Institutional Economics approach and its policy
implications. Certainly, a set of "Global Standard Institutions", focused in the consolidation of free
market, transaction costs and property rights frameworks, has inspired the contemporary policy
agenda of multilateral organizations such as World Bank and the Monetary International Fund,
eliciting several structural reforms in developing countries. In this regard, for instance, the World
Bank created a specific research group for "... study the causes and consequences of governance for
development" (Daniel Kauffman et al. 2009: 1), which has consistently monitored key governance
indicators in 212 countries and territories between 1996 and 2008, gathering cross–sectional
information as critical inputs for the Bank and Governments´ policy design and implementation.
However, failures and contradictory outcomes in many developing countries elicited changes in the
multilateral policy approaches during recent years, shifting to a more contextual–sensitive approach
(Stiglitz, 2002). In this regard, Douglas North has highlighted

Reflection On The Word ' Reflection '
For me the word 'reflection' means taking time to really dig deep into my thoughts, to contemplate
something meaningful and significant, to make a decision that often involves me and my future. It
has a personal and emotional connection. Daudelin (1996) uses the word 'reflection' to encourage
managers to create time to recognise the value of learning from past and current work situations
('experience') and to adapt this learning to new situations. I would prefer to choose the words
'thought' or 'consideration' when applying the idea of reflection to my own work environment. To fix
my thoughts on what I have learned or to carefully consider how to approach a problem would, for
me, be a better fit. I might, however, choose to reflect on how the past year has been or to reflect on
the direction the organisation is taking, but not, as Daudelin suggests, bring the word into every day
use.
Boud et al. (1985) suggest that we can't learn from experience alone and ask the questions: What
transforms experience into learning? What enables learners to profit from the situations they find
themselves in? How does experience relate to new situations?
Daudelin (1996, 39) offers a definition of reflection that catches its relation to learning:
Reflection is the process of stepping back from an experience to ponder, carefully and persistently,
its meaning to the self through the development of inferences; learning is the creation of meaning
from past or current events that serves as a

The Wind Of The Willows, By Kenneth Grahame
"Journeys provoke travellers, that may ultimately lead to transformation of self and leave the
traveller far richer for the experience"
In both The Wind in the Willows, and Journey to the Interior, the idea that journeys may provoke
travellers and ultimately lead to transformation of self and richer experiences, is clearly exhibited
within. Depending on an entity's current perspective, they may either embody provocative views,
such as the Rat in the Wind in the Willows and also the persona in Journey to the Interior, or even
have an accepting perspective to journey, such as the character of Toad. Through the use of tone,
symbolism and also truncated sentences, the quote is partially accurate in The Wind in the Willows,

Ultimately, because of the nature of the character of Rat, it is clear that this individual despises and
fears the idea of journey, showcasing how an entity's current perspective, can impede on their view
on, and appreciation of journey.
Moreover, in The Wind in the Willows, the idea that journey can lead to transformation of self, and
rich experiences is exhibited in Toad's ecstatic perception of journey. In this extract of the novel,
Toad believes that adventure is the only means of fulfilling and experiencing a real animalistic life;
'That's real life for you, embodied in that little cart'. The cart is symbolic of Toad's ambitious nature,
which is manifested through his jubilant tone and positive attitude in response to change and
adventure. This optimistic view on journey proves that 'transformation of self and rich experiences'
is attained by undertaking journey. Toad illustrates an image of journey as being something life–
changing; 'Travel, change, interest, excitement! The whole world before you and a horizon that's
always changing'. The cumulative listing of the intangible rewards associated with journey,
emphasizes how adventure can lead to 'richer experiences'. Additionally the metaphoric phrase of
the changing horizon represents Toad's intention of adventure and acceptance of and fearfulness of
change. Subsequently, because of Toad's optimistic and accepting perspective on journey, the quote

Importance Of Reflection On Child Development
This play–based activity involved a table that had various elements to explore various sounds.
Amelia was guided to the table where another child was already present by the educator that she had
an attachment with. Amelia and the other child were babbling back and forth to one another. When
both children wanted to play with the same instrument, the educator let the children try to resolve it
themselves or intervened when needed. In this activity, Amelia was able to develop her social skills
by joining in play and cooperating with another child through her relationship with the trusted
educator.
Reflection of assessment practice
Moles (2012, p. 1) discusses that reflection on assessment of practice is essential for educators to
seek a different perspective of their teaching practices from others through feedback, consider
strengths and challenges in their teaching and build on their knowledge as educators (Miller 2011, p.
5; Moles 2012, p. 1).
In the VEYLDF (2016, p. 8), it discusses that educators can support children's development by
gathering information such as their interests and consider them when planning learning experiences.
What worked well in the implementation of the program for Amelia was the information gained
from her father which was used in the planning process. By forming a partnership with Amelia's
father, I was able to gain knowledge of Amelia's interests, what she did on the weekend and learnt

Essay On Frankenstein Perspective
Point–of–view and perspective are very influential tools. Seeing different perspectives can change
another person or observer's perspective. Thoughts and experiences influence perspective heavily.
We can see this in our political climate, in psychology, and the way people treat one another based
on their experiences, thoughts, and previous actions. This carries on to Frankenstein is the excerpt;
he has a very heavily varied perspective than those of the villagers', and there is a distinct difference
in thought. Readers learn the thoughts going through Frankenstein's mind, as well as his good deeds,
actions, and curiosity with a will to learn and discover. If the story were to be told from the point of
view of a villager, it would probably be very negative and completely different to Frankenstein's
perspective.
Actions are very important in telling what something or someone is like. Future actions can be
estimated by someone's previous actions; actions usually reflect the character and personality of
someone. Positive actions are almost always associated with a good–hearted, positive person, and
negative actions usually correspond with wretched, wicked, fearful, hateful, and negative people.
These staples of action and character seem to apply to Frankenstein as well. In paragraphs 4–6, he
discovers that the family he usually observes suffers from poverty. What's amazing is that when he
heard and understood this, he refrained from taking their food again. For a monster who

Economic Perspective Of Slavery
Slavery in its very nature has a number of perspectives which it can be analyzed through. From its
existence many can argue about slavery from a political perspective, the economic perspective and
the social perspective. Slavery was very prevalent in the South of the country despite it being a
national institution. In actual sense slavery transcended national barriers. The economic perspective
of slavery considers what economic benefits the institution of slavery brought to the south, the
economic impact during its existence and subsequent abolition and what void if any was left to be
filled with its abolishment.
The economic value of slaves during the existence of the institution cannot be underestimated.

Taking On Multiple Perspectives For An American Adult
The idea of taking on multiple perspectives can be applied to many scenarios, from making
decisions as the president of a nation to running a day care. One of the most accessible perspectives
for an American adult is the small business. By engaging in the perspective of other people at a
business you either work at or are a customer at, you gain a certain understanding that makes you
more relaxed and more pleasant. For example we can take an almost universal experience in the
developed world, ordering food at a fast food restaurant.
Let's say there is a line of customers during the lunch rush at your average fast food restaurant. The
line is taking extraordinarily long because there is only one person running the register and one
person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next in line is person B. Person B realizes that everyone in line is there for food and must be just as
hungry as they are. He realizes that there are only two employees and that they are working very
hard to serve as many people as they are, perhaps they have been in that situation. Person B has a
greater understanding of the perspective of those around him and in turn is much calmer than person
A.
This example of taking on multiple perspectives shares in Zhuangzi's philosophy but is different
from his examples. The closest example would be the story of the butcher. "A good butcher changes
his chopper every year because he chips it. And average butcher changes it every month because he
breaks it" (Zhuangzi, ch.3). This is demonstrating two people, doing essentially the same thing, but
the way they do it makes their life more or less difficult. As the butchers gain a greater
understanding of the oxen they become more proficient.
"When I first began cutting up oxen, I did not see anything but oxen. Three years later, I couldn't see
the whole ox. And now, I encounter them with spirit and don't look with my eye ... That's why after
nineteen years the blade of my chopper is still as though fresh from the grindstone."(Zhuangzi,
Ch.3)
In the restaurant example person B is a better customer than person A. In something as simple as
being a customer it is safe to say that becoming irrationally upset would be analogous to

Market Structure Of An Economics Perspective Essay
Introduction
Market structure from an economics perspective is defined as the characteristics of the market that
impacts the behavior or way firms operate, which economists use to determine the nature of
competition, and pricing tactics of businesses in the market. Within a market, the market structures
are distinguished by key features, including the number of sellers, homogeneous or differentiated
goods or services produced, pricing power, level of competition, barriers to entering or exit the
markets, efficiency, and profits. The interaction and differences among these features resulted in
four market structures of competition: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and
monopoly. Economist assembled the four market structures into two groups; perfectly competitive
market and imperfectly competitive market, which are vastly distinct when it come to the different
market competitions that need to be satisfied.
A major issue for existing firms in some market structures is the entry of new competitors, and this
is because of the potentially unfavorable effects new participants might have on the market 's real
revenue and profits. Entry barriers are specifically designed to prevent new competitors from
entering a profitable market freely. Based on the level of barriers, it can be relatively easy or
difficult for new firms to enter the market. Therefore, high entry barriers may have a positive or
negative influence a firm's long–run profitability, cost

Prejudice, Prejudice And Prejudice
These days, there is a marked prejudice against prejudice, and understandably so. More often than
not, "prejudice" refers to an "antipathy based upon a faulty and inflexible generalization."1 Insofar
as prejudice refers to thought or action beclouded by hatred, it warrants condemnation, not defense.
However, prejudice also has a broader meaning. According to the Oxford Shorter Dictionary, it is: "a
preconceived opinion; bias unfavorable or favorable."2 It refers to "life circumstances" and
"perspective." Prejudice is any source of judgment whose validity one has not ascertained for
oneself. The aspiration to banish prejudice in this broad sense reflects the assumption that rational
judgment must be untainted by prejudgments of any kind. This way of thinking about judgment, and
the renunciation of fixed ideas it implies, is misguided. Prejudice gives life experiences their
subjective meanings. But prejudice can also be both illuminating and consistent with freedom. The
concept of detached judgment (itself a kind of prejudice) was shaped during the Enlightenment
(1685–1815). As Hans–Georg Gadamer points out, "The history of ideas shows that not until the
Enlightenment does the concept of prejudice acquire the negative connotation familiar today."3 The
word "prejudice" actually comes from "prejudgment," which means "[having] either a positive or
negative value." This meaning, he continues, was limited during the Enlightenment "to the sense of
an unfounded judgment" – that

Analysis Of The Poem ' The Wife 's Lament '
"What was it like to lose him? Asked Sorrow. There was a long pause before I responded: It was like
hearing every goodbye ever said to me–said all at once," quoted by Lang Leav. I used this quote to
present a similar description on how the wife feels about her husband. "The Wife's Lament," is one
of the most identifiable Anglo–Saxon elegies and one of the earliest and unique illustrations of a
poem composed from a woman's point of view in British literature. There is no evidence whether
the author is a man or a woman since the author did not present himself or herself. In the poem, it is
obvious that she yearns for her husband deeply, but it does not tell you if he returns her feelings.
"The Wife's Lament," is a preview into the tenth–century Anglo–Saxon England, a point in time
when wine streamed in the rivers, and colossal titans roamed the earth. The poem setting is the wife
is in a stone cave surrounded by water with no one to help her if she is in danger. In the beginning of
the poem she introduces her elegy as a sad tale of her heartache; that never in her life she has gone
through. She tells the reader how her husband's family sent him out to sea and does not know if he
will come back to her. The wife then explains how she is anxious for him, she does not sleep, or she
wakes up in the morning, and only thinks about her husband. The she made the decision to be
banished, which was a norm for women whose husbands had died or left them. She then goes to his

  • 3. The And Placebo Effect On Human Sciences Since every object, event and story can be interpreted from multiple perspectives, people gain their knowledge in a way largely influenced by the perspective. It is difficult to be convinced of any knowledge that is without bias. The knowers all pursue the answer to their questions when researching or learning the knowledge, which results in the similar way of thinking among the similar communities. Few can detach themselves from the contemporary situation since the cultural background, various eras, and diverse ways of knowing all help to shape the pursuit of knowledge. While to a great extent I consider perspective as an essential factor in obtaining knowledge as examples can be extracted from my Chinese cultural background, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the Chinese government promised to investigate the incident thoroughly, many western media bitterly criticized the supervision system of food safety in China. From different perspective, the foreign reporters did not have the intention to harbor the crime of the Chinese food companies and the incompetence of Chinese ruling system. Moreover, foreign journalists began to suspect that the Chinese press may have delayed reporting the incident in order to keep the "perfect" appearance during the Olympic Games. For the 2008 Chinese milk scandal, the Chinese press held the perspective which mostly preserves the prestige of Chinese government, while the foreign press boldly deduced and query about the truth from another aspect. Thus, considering different perspectives when gaining the knowledge will help people to generate more inference and get closer to the truth. Perspectives can be evolved and altered as the time is progressing. As a Chinese old saying states, "the spectators see the chess game better than the players", many who live in the moment are unable to objectively justify the contemporary events happened around them. Only the descendants, analyzing from new perspective, can draw a conclusion more comprehensively while learning the history. Historians from different eras hold diverse perspectives, leading to various interpretations of a certain topic: "To what extent did Hitler's foreign ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Principle of Management Course: My Experiences Principle of Management Course: My Experiences I believe that the Principles of Management course provided me with invaluable information which will help in furthering both my professional as well as personal life. I believe that learning is a process by which an individual undergoes certain changes. Also, during the learning process, many of the beliefs which a person holds are challenged. I underwent various changes during this course. This paper will explain those changes. Furthermore, I will detail the concepts, ideas and situations which had the greatest impact on me. Before taking this course, my definition of the concept of management would have been strictly based on power relationships within an organization, how to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At times, I possess an almost fanatical desire to achieve my goals. This fanatical desire is so strong that it can override friendships, destroy relationships and alienate people. I also began to notice that I had the tendency to act quite insensitive, inconsiderate and not be approachable. Once I had identified this problem, I realized that I needed to diversify myself by adding elements from the other roles, such as mentor and facilitator. I believed that if I complemented my director/producer roles with elements from the mentor or facilitator roles, then this would enable me to foster a collective effort, be sensitive towards the needs of individuals and still be able to achieve my goals. This was the second phase of my learning: I had identified a personal deficiency and needed to work towards complementing my director/producer roles with roles from the Human Relations quadrant. One of the key concepts of management and the key themes of the course was teamwork. We were organized into teams and the team was the unit by which the Professor measured our performance. By working in a team–environment, I was able to learn the value of multiple perspectives and the need to use different roles depending on the situation. In analyzing Synergy, Inc., I learned that we had fused the three perspectives to create a unique identity and structure. For instance, in the strategic design perspective, tasks were organized ... Some funny, some sad, and some I can not put an emotion with because they are a combination of many. Millinocket, Maine, for those who do not know, is a small town that was the result of the Great Northern Paper Mill which started over a hundred years ago. The Paper Mill that created the town no longer exists, but Millinocket is trying to bring as much business as possible to replace what was lost. Although the town is struggling, it is a great place to be and contributing to its future was a big part of my life while I was there. Sometimes looking at other people, situations, and life events with different perspectives cause people to make snap judgments without factual knowledge. • 16. Analysis Of ' The Lottery ' Since reading The Lottery by Shirely Jackson, I've been thinking more about culture, traditions, and perspective. Not just that, but how it can sometimes take adopting an unbiased, non judgmental, or outside perspective in order to see things for what they really are. The way that the narrator in this story adopts such a position allows for a clearer view of the events of the story. In The Lottery, the narrator speaks to us in a non participant and objective manner. We hear and see events unfold from an outside, "fly on the wall", perspective. No critique or judgement on the events is provided by the narrator; we only can ascertain judgements and feelings from what the characters do and say. By allowing us this viewpoint, we can make ... Next thing you know, they 'll be wanting to go back to living in caves, nobody work any more, live hat way for a while. Used to be a saying about 'Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon. ' First thing you know, we 'd all be eating stewed chickweed and acorns. There 's always been a lottery," he added petulantly. "Bad enough to see young Joe Summers up there joking with everybody." "Some places have already quit lotteries." Mrs. Adams said. "Nothing but trouble in that," Old Man Warner said stoutly. "Pack of young fools."(257). Tradition and ritual customs hold a really powerful sway. In the story, we read about how things have subtlety shifted overtime in the ritual, or the artifacts used during it, yet it continues on. It 's an accepted norm that no one wants to upend. This made me think about how our cultures customs have shifted with time, but how many aspects remain unchanged. It could be for nearly anything, such as how holidays are celebrated, or rituals like weddings, or how challenges to old norms are often viewed with intrepidation or skepticism. If the author would have adopted a participant point of view in this story, we probably would have gained more insight into the rationales for holding an annual lottery to stone someone. You do not speak the language. Every word you hear except from the small portion of your family is unfamiliar and confusing. There is no implicit definition for many of these syllables and even if there were, you would not know it, but this culture intrigues you. These people live a life like you have never seen. In the safety of your family's beautiful neighborhood, you decide to wander. The sun shines above you. The air is brisk in a way you haven't quite experienced. You are bundled up to protect against this unfamiliar cool. A hat pulled low to keep the heat in against the February chill. You find yourself fascinated more with every step. These people lives are so different from your own. You study this community in awe of what you are seeing. You wander between property lines of which you are unaware, unknowingly breaking the code of this culture. This atmosphere of beauty shifts when you are approached by two men clothed identically approach you from a marked vehicle. You identify them as law enforcers, but you are uncertain of how you will answer their questions. Their words come too quickly for you to even partially comprehend. A terror swells in you to find someone to translate and mediate. You need your family here. You begin to walk in the direction of your son's home, anxious and unsure of how else to communicate what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's The Danger Of A Single Story "There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you" (Maya Angelou). In a world where often the majority's voice is heard, it is easy to see only one perspective. However, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a female Nigerian writer, persuades her audience to seek knowledge from multiple perspectives of a story. Prompted by the increasing tensions between global populations, Adichie in "The Danger of a Single Story," speaks through personal anecdotes enabling her reader to understand the importance of analyzing and understanding multiple perspectives in stories. Throughout the first anecdote, Adichie explains the danger associated with seeing a single perspective of a story. First, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie portrays the literature of her youth: "All my characters were white and blue–eyed, they played in the snow, they ate apples, and they talked a lot about the weather, how lovely it was that the sun had come out" (10–12). Through the use of "white" and "blue–eyed" Adichie creates a sense of desire. By placing both words beside each other, and emphasizing the physical descriptions of the characters, Adichie strengthens the racial hierarchy present in western literature. This strategy causes Adichie to question her own racial identity, making her feel less valued than her western counterparts. In addition, the quote illustrates an impressionable tone in which she openly accepts the non–applicable western values. Similar to a child, Adichie embraces a single perspective ... Women's Basketball Game Summary Analysis of the Management of a University of Tennessee Martin's Women's Basketball Game The management of any given sporting event is thought by the common individual as an easy job to do when everything is moving in sync and as it should be; however, this is most certainly not the case most of the time. Many problems will occur sporadically over the course of any sporting event. For our group, the decision was made to observe a women's basketball game and the process of how to effectively keep the event functioning. Literature review In different streams of literature and thought, organisation have been called upon to measure, manage and report on their environmental, social and governance performance. In addition to each being recognised as important in its own right, various studies have sought to identify the links between corporate social performance and financial performance (lee, et.al. 2009; peloza, 2009). A challenge for proponents of these non– traditional dimensions of performance has been to find ways to integrate them into existing performance measurement regimes (Figge,et al.,2002). This is important because the way in which individuals are measured and reward will impact on the decision that they make. To extent that evaluation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A consistent finding is that evaluators rely more heavily on those measures that they understand and accept the importance of. Unable to simultaneously process all of the measures, evaluators must focus on a subset or find some other way to decrease the cognitive complexity of the task, and this introduces bias. Subsequent research has sought to identify ways to reduce this bias to avoid strategically important measures being ignored. The biases identified in previous research, and other biases, may be exacerbated by the introduction of an additional perspective to measure environmental, social, or governance performance. This has important implications for the inclusion environmental measures. Figge et al. (2002) consider three options for including environmental performance in BSC format. The first is to integrate measures in to existing four perspectives, the second is to develop a separate sustainability scorecard, and the third is to add an additional, fifth perspective to the traditional BSC. Kaplan and Wisner (2009) provide an empirical evaluation of the effects of including environmental performance as a separate BSC perspective, or integrating those measures into the traditional four perspectives. They find that providing a separate a separate environmental perspective is not effective unless decision makers receive additional information about the strategic importance of those ... Rhetorical Analysis Of Games By Steve Johnson "If you put yourself in an environment with lots of different perspectives, you yourself are going to have better, sharper, more original ideas," stated Steve Johnson in an interview with Salon Media Group. In a surrounding with many different networks of people, ideas will be enhanced with the knowledge of other perspectives. Also, the new ideas will encourage debate and conversation. Not only will other people's views enhance ideas, but also is crucial for writing on a topic. Acknowledging opposing perspectives will give a writer more authority on the subject being discussed. John Stapleford's book, Bulls, Bears, and Golden Calves, provides a thorough overview with a Christian perspective of economic and ethical analysis. He reviews the moral challenges of macro, micro, and international economic issues. Stapleford covers a variety of important public policy issues such as self–interest, economic efficiency, and private property rights. He begins the book by laying a foundation of ethical thought and an analytical framework. Stapleford provides a Biblical perspective on the practical issues facing our current society. Stapleford places great emphasis on the blend of ethics and economics In the beginning of the book, he says "ethics is inexorably intertwined with economic life and analysis" (Stapleford, 2009). Stapleford presents a strong analysis of economic issues with a Christian perception that aligns with Biblical truths. He urges his audience to avoid the temptation of idolatry and materialism but to live a selfless life of sacrifice. Stapleford claims that "there is sanctity in all of labor, and without God's involvement human labor is futile. In whatever we do, Christians are to do it heartily as unto the Lord, for we do not labor for the food that perishes but for the food that endures to everlasting life" (Stapleford, 2009). The theme of overemployment is a current problem in the United States. Americans are overworked. Workload has increased and society has experienced a loss of leisure. Overemployment and overworked can be defined as negative effects that occur when individuals are required to work more hours than they want to work. The incentives are freedom from political persecution, greater opportunities for jobs, and economic stability. Opportunity cost will also occur when it comes to making choices whether in economic decision or in daily basis. In this situation, the opportunity cost for those refugees are loss of trust in their countries, broken relationship with their familiar neighborhood, and deviation from their familiar tradition and culture. Incentives and opportunity cost are then used to measure their economic profit by moving to the United States just like the way economists calculate economic profit in economic context. The difference is that in economic context we are provided with quantitative data while in this case we are provided with qualitative data. New Swipe Card System At London Heathrow Airport As described by Palmer, Dunlap & Akin, at the start of the peak holiday season, British Airways (BA) employees at London Heathrow airport participated in a 24 hour wildcat strike due to the implementation of a timeswipe card system that would monitor the employees ' clocked– in–and– out hours. To the executives, this change represented an improvement in technology that would increase organizational efficiency. To the staff, however, this change represented something entirely different; distrust and disrespect.BA executives had a history of ensuring that the organization was taken care of at the expense of its employees. Jobs were cut, agreements were broken, and this new swipe card system was just another example of the executives finding a way to monitor and control the staff to the organization 's economic gain. The staff feared that management would monitor their hours and send them home during off hours and then call them back to duty at peak hours. In addition, the way in which the change was communicated to the staff was what propelled the staff to revolt. The executives sprung the change initiative on the staff with little warning and provided inconsistent reasons for the necessity of the change. This made it nearly impossible for the staff to accept or adjust to the change in a positive way. The strike resulted in enormous losses to BA in terms of customers, employee morale, and overall company reputation. Executives at BA did take a step back and reflect on their ... Compare And Contrast Jack And Ralph In Lord Of The Flies In the classic novel, The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, it explores the themes of the different perspectives and ideologies humans use to civilize themselves. In the novel, the main protagonist Ralph best represents the logical point of view, attempting to conserve the utopian island, while the antagonist Jack best illustrates the savage point of view, which results in the creation of a dystopia based on his lust for enjoyment. In Lord of The Flies, even though both Ralph and Jack represent different ideologies, they do possess some similarities between them. While both characters have different leading styles, it can be argued that they are effective leaders. They are both adverse in inspiring those their followers, the boys in the island, with Ralph using hope for returning to motivate the rest of the boys stranded in the island, while Jack uses fear against the beast as a catalyst for his seizing of power. In my opinion, this similarity is the reason why these two different pathways were capable of remaining popular among the boys or what they symbolize, society. The reason for this is because as social creatures, humans need to have a high morale to be able to achieve progress, which is something that requires capable leaders. Jack used a particularly cruel method by making the beast as a sort of religion for the boys by using it as a figurehead for his power. He treated the beast like a deity when he stated that the, "head is for the beast. It's a gift" (Golding, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Life Perspectives In Amy Tan's 'Two Kinds' Life experiences shape and mold us into the people we are today. These experiences form and create our opinions on everything we see in life. Everything from our family to society heavily influence our perspectives, whether we realize it or not. Experiences directly make up our perspectives. Family members heavily influence our perspectives. From the time we are born our parents begin teaching us beliefs and values that are "right" in their eyes. Amy Tan, the author of "Two Kinds" talks about how it was living with a strict, traditional mother. In chunk 6, paragraph 67 Amy's mother states "'Only two kinds of daughters.' She shouted in Chinese. 'Those who are obedient and those who follow their own minds! Only one kind of daughter can live in this house. Obedient daughter!'" Her mother drilled this idea into her mind, which definitely affected her to a large extent. Her mother's expectations were too much, and she could never fulfill them. In her mother's eyes she was a disappointment, and this experience changed her perspective on what's important in a person. Another example of family influencing our perspectives is shown in "An Indian Father's Plea" by Medicine Grizzly Bear. They each travel back to the antebellum South for different amounts of time, gaining different insights from the same events. Kevin, a white man, travels back to a time of privilege, while his wife Dana, a black woman, travels back to a time of hardship and enslavement. Their contrasting perspectives cause them to see the world differently. For example, Kevin draws from his sole point of view, while Dana uses her own perspective with other people's perspectives. No matter when or where they are, Dana and Kevin determine the truth through what see and what they already know. Kevin and Dana first conflict when Dana returns to 1976 for the first time. Kevin is in disbelief about where Dana went, as he suggests what she experienced was "a dream" (17). He says this despite the fact that he saw Dana disappear and reappear, something out of the ordinary. His perspective is different from Dana's, meaning what he sees isn't always what actually happens. Dana goes back in time, while Kevin saw Dana "vanish and reappear" (16). Despite not knowing what Dana experienced, he still believes his point of view is a fact. Kevin insists Dana's experience was a "dream," and refers to his perspective as "facts" (16). • 46. Why School By Mike Rose Analysis Beyond the Classroom Many are quick to disregard education's role outside of the classroom. According to Mike Rose, "a good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in it" (Rose 33). Rose emphasizes the value in the experience of education beyond the value of education for the purpose of custom or intelligence; he explores the purpose of going to school in terms of how he defines himself and his personal growth in the stages of his academic career. By reflecting on his personal experiences and how those gave him the tools applicable to his daily life, he emphasizes why education should never be overlooked. Rose's use of referencing relatable experiences in a logical manner makes his argument persuasive to the readers and he succeeds in making the readers reconsider why education matters to them. Mike Rose's Why School?: Reclaiming Education for All of Us effectively persuades his audience of the importance of education beyond the classroom, which proves true in our everyday lives because the essential aspect of education is what we do with it and how it helps develop one's personal growth. Rose elaborates on the significance of education by reflecting on his own perspective on how that shaped his identity. His childhood gave him the opportunity to experience the contrast between a positive learning environment and a negative one. This also shaped him to have an evident positive outlook on education. It is clear that there were no Aboriginal rights and which white settlement had the greatest control. The Archetypal characters in 'The Tracker' include The Follower, The Fanatic, The Veteran, The Fugitive and The Tracker. Each character represents a different voice of a group within society. The voices express the issue of race and racial inequality towards Aboriginals. The three main archetypal characters involve The Fanatic, The Tracker and The Follower. The Follower represents a group with a minimum voice. The follower playing the ukulele indicates that he is new to this sort of work. The Follower learns to have a voice through the events he experienced throughout his journey. Symbolism involves the burning of the ukulele. This conveys the perspective of the follower towards what they are doing. The experience leads to him feeling unhappy and wanting to change. This draws us into his experiences as we feel a strong connection because most of us have gone through this in life. The Fanatic represents an aggressive and a controlling group. The Fanatic was so excessive with finding the fugitive that he constantly mistreated the Tracker. Dialogue includes "Sorry? You want to feel sorry for someone, feel sorry for the pack–horse. Now there's an innocent victim". This shows that he was using The Tracker to find the fugitive and which he does not consider his inner emotions. The audience is drawn to the Fanatic's experiences because his perspective is interesting and is different compared to the others. • 52. The Secret Of Empathy, Enlightenment, And Internal Growth... The Secret of Empathy, Enlightenment, and Internal Growth There are two senses of reality: external and internal. External reality is an observable universe, but perspectives differ and thus cause different opinions. To experience internal reality is to confuse one's own reality with a shared reality, resulting in a loss of empathy and disregarding how others are affected. An external mindset displays an understanding of different opinions in a shared world, whereas with internal mindset a person's devotion to a belief becomes their private world. When a person is passionate about their beliefs they tend to disregard other perspectives, or live internally. This is a common practice because, depending upon upbringing, different moral values have been instilled in the person. Typically, people will not partake in activities or actions that defy their morality, so they tend to align with others who share similar values. However, people who are unwilling to think beyond their own beliefs lose their sense of empathy. The more devoted a person is to their morals, the less empathy they might have. When we look outside ourselves to other perspectives, we can better connect to an external rather than simply an internal reality, approaching the world with an enlightened state of mind capable of both empathy and consistent growth. A less narrow–minded person is capable of accessing an external reality. Typically, it seems that the more devout citizens are more closed–minded. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the last decades the idea that high quality institutions are positively related to economic growth and development (Acemoglu et al., 2005) has gained relevance in the mainstream academic scene as well as within international organizations and cooperation agencies. The phrase Institutions Matter! epitomizes the essence of the New Institutional Economics approach and its policy implications. Certainly, a set of "Global Standard Institutions", focused in the consolidation of free market, transaction costs and property rights frameworks, has inspired the contemporary policy agenda of multilateral organizations such as World Bank and the Monetary International Fund, eliciting several structural reforms in developing countries. In this regard, for instance, the World Bank created a specific research group for "... study the causes and consequences of governance for development" (Daniel Kauffman et al. 2009: 1), which has consistently monitored key governance indicators in 212 countries and territories between 1996 and 2008, gathering cross–sectional information as critical inputs for the Bank and Governments´ policy design and implementation. • 58. Reflection On The Word ' Reflection ' For me the word 'reflection' means taking time to really dig deep into my thoughts, to contemplate something meaningful and significant, to make a decision that often involves me and my future. It has a personal and emotional connection. Daudelin (1996) uses the word 'reflection' to encourage managers to create time to recognise the value of learning from past and current work situations ('experience') and to adapt this learning to new situations. I would prefer to choose the words 'thought' or 'consideration' when applying the idea of reflection to my own work environment. To fix my thoughts on what I have learned or to carefully consider how to approach a problem would, for me, be a better fit. I might, however, choose to reflect on how the past year has been or to reflect on the direction the organisation is taking, but not, as Daudelin suggests, bring the word into every day use. Boud et al. (1985) suggest that we can't learn from experience alone and ask the questions: What transforms experience into learning? What enables learners to profit from the situations they find themselves in? How does experience relate to new situations? Daudelin (1996, 39) offers a definition of reflection that catches its relation to learning: Reflection is the process of stepping back from an experience to ponder, carefully and persistently, its meaning to the self through the development of inferences; learning is the creation of meaning from past or current events that serves as a ... In this activity, Amelia was able to develop her social skills by joining in play and cooperating with another child through her relationship with the trusted educator. In the VEYLDF (2016, p. 8), it discusses that educators can support children's development by gathering information such as their interests and consider them when planning learning experiences. • 64. Essay On Frankenstein Perspective Point–of–view and perspective are very influential tools. Seeing different perspectives can change another person or observer's perspective. Thoughts and experiences influence perspective heavily. We can see this in our political climate, in psychology, and the way people treat one another based on their experiences, thoughts, and previous actions. This carries on to Frankenstein is the excerpt; he has a very heavily varied perspective than those of the villagers', and there is a distinct difference in thought. Readers learn the thoughts going through Frankenstein's mind, as well as his good deeds, actions, and curiosity with a will to learn and discover. If the story were to be told from the point of view of a villager, it would probably be very negative and completely different to Frankenstein's perspective. Actions are very important in telling what something or someone is like. Future actions can be estimated by someone's previous actions; actions usually reflect the character and personality of someone. Positive actions are almost always associated with a good–hearted, positive person, and negative actions usually correspond with wretched, wicked, fearful, hateful, and negative people. These staples of action and character seem to apply to Frankenstein as well. In paragraphs 4–6, he discovers that the family he usually observes suffers from poverty. What's amazing is that when he heard and understood this, he refrained from taking their food again. For a monster who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From its existence many can argue about slavery from a political perspective, the economic perspective and the social perspective. Slavery was very prevalent in the South of the country despite it being a national institution. In actual sense slavery transcended national barriers. The economic perspective of slavery considers what economic benefits the institution of slavery brought to the south, the economic impact during its existence and subsequent abolition and what void if any was left to be filled with its abolishment. The economic value of slaves during the existence of the institution cannot be underestimated. Slaves existed as planters, domestic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. Taking On Multiple Perspectives For An American Adult The idea of taking on multiple perspectives can be applied to many scenarios, from making decisions as the president of a nation to running a day care. One of the most accessible perspectives for an American adult is the small business. By engaging in the perspective of other people at a business you either work at or are a customer at, you gain a certain understanding that makes you more relaxed and more pleasant. For example we can take an almost universal experience in the developed world, ordering food at a fast food restaurant. Let's say there is a line of customers during the lunch rush at your average fast food restaurant. The line is taking extraordinarily long because there is only one person running the register and one person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next in line is person B. Person B realizes that everyone in line is there for food and must be just as hungry as they are. He realizes that there are only two employees and that they are working very hard to serve as many people as they are, perhaps they have been in that situation. Person B has a greater understanding of the perspective of those around him and in turn is much calmer than person A. This example of taking on multiple perspectives shares in Zhuangzi's philosophy but is different from his examples. The closest example would be the story of the butcher. "A good butcher changes his chopper every year because he chips it. And average butcher changes it every month because he breaks it" (Zhuangzi, ch.3). This is demonstrating two people, doing essentially the same thing, but the way they do it makes their life more or less difficult. As the butchers gain a greater understanding of the oxen they become more proficient. "When I first began cutting up oxen, I did not see anything but oxen. Three years later, I couldn't see the whole ox. And now, I encounter them with spirit and don't look with my eye ... That's why after nineteen years the blade of my chopper is still as though fresh from the grindstone."(Zhuangzi, Ch.3) In the restaurant example person B is a better customer than person A. In something as simple as being a customer it is safe to say that becoming irrationally upset would be analogous to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. Market Structure Of An Economics Perspective Essay Introduction Market structure from an economics perspective is defined as the characteristics of the market that impacts the behavior or way firms operate, which economists use to determine the nature of competition, and pricing tactics of businesses in the market. Within a market, the market structures are distinguished by key features, including the number of sellers, homogeneous or differentiated goods or services produced, pricing power, level of competition, barriers to entering or exit the markets, efficiency, and profits. The interaction and differences among these features resulted in four market structures of competition: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly. Economist assembled the four market structures into two groups; perfectly competitive market and imperfectly competitive market, which are vastly distinct when it come to the different market competitions that need to be satisfied. A major issue for existing firms in some market structures is the entry of new competitors, and this is because of the potentially unfavorable effects new participants might have on the market 's real revenue and profits. Entry barriers are specifically designed to prevent new competitors from entering a profitable market freely. Based on the level of barriers, it can be relatively easy or difficult for new firms to enter the market. Therefore, high entry barriers may have a positive or negative influence a firm's long–run profitability, cost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Prejudice, Prejudice And Prejudice These days, there is a marked prejudice against prejudice, and understandably so. More often than not, "prejudice" refers to an "antipathy based upon a faulty and inflexible generalization."1 Insofar as prejudice refers to thought or action beclouded by hatred, it warrants condemnation, not defense. However, prejudice also has a broader meaning. According to the Oxford Shorter Dictionary, it is: "a preconceived opinion; bias unfavorable or favorable."2 It refers to "life circumstances" and "perspective." Prejudice is any source of judgment whose validity one has not ascertained for oneself. The aspiration to banish prejudice in this broad sense reflects the assumption that rational judgment must be untainted by prejudgments of any kind. This way of thinking about judgment, and the renunciation of fixed ideas it implies, is misguided. Prejudice gives life experiences their subjective meanings. But prejudice can also be both illuminating and consistent with freedom. The concept of detached judgment (itself a kind of prejudice) was shaped during the Enlightenment (1685–1815). As Hans–Georg Gadamer points out, "The history of ideas shows that not until the Enlightenment does the concept of prejudice acquire the negative connotation familiar today."3 The word "prejudice" actually comes from "prejudgment," which means "[having] either a positive or negative value." This meaning, he continues, was limited during the Enlightenment "to the sense of an unfounded judgment" – that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. Analysis Of The Poem ' The Wife 's Lament ' "What was it like to lose him? Asked Sorrow. There was a long pause before I responded: It was like hearing every goodbye ever said to me–said all at once," quoted by Lang Leav. I used this quote to present a similar description on how the wife feels about her husband. "The Wife's Lament," is one of the most identifiable Anglo–Saxon elegies and one of the earliest and unique illustrations of a poem composed from a woman's point of view in British literature. There is no evidence whether the author is a man or a woman since the author did not present himself or herself. In the poem, it is obvious that she yearns for her husband deeply, but it does not tell you if he returns her feelings. "The Wife's Lament," is a preview into the tenth–century Anglo–Saxon England, a point in time when wine streamed in the rivers, and colossal titans roamed the earth. The poem setting is the wife is in a stone cave surrounded by water with no one to help her if she is in danger. In the beginning of the poem she introduces her elegy as a sad tale of her heartache; that never in her life she has gone through. She tells the reader how her husband's family sent him out to sea and does not know if he will come back to her. The wife then explains how she is anxious for him, she does not sleep, or she wakes up in the morning, and only thinks about her husband. The she made the decision to be banished, which was a norm for women whose husbands had died or left them. She then goes to his people for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
