Name of the Unit : The Earth which supports man
Name of the Topic : The Interior of the Earth
LEARNING OUTCOMES 1. The pupil will be able to recognize the changes in the interior
Of the Earth and its impact of the surface of the earth.
2. The pupil will be able to understand the inner parts of the earth.
3. The pupil will be able to create awareness about the various actions
happens in the inner of the
Content Analysis
5. FACTS 1. Ups and downs appeared on the earth due to some movements
From inside the earth and various processes
2. When goes deeper in to the earth, temperature and pressure
Increases.
3. The depth of the deepest mines on the earth is only about 9Kms.
4. The lava that comes to the surface of the earth through Volcanoes
are from a depth, maximum of just 64 Kms.
5. The radius of the earth, that is the distant from the centre of the earth
To surface is about 6371 Kms.
6. Earth interior consists of Crust, Mantle, outer core and inner core.
CONCEPT Interior of earth comprises Crust, Mantle, outer core and inner core
And the temperature and pressure varies on each layer.
7. INTRODUCTION
Teacher enters the class room and interacts with the pupil.
Then he asks the students the following questions.
1. Are you like songs?
Then teacher plays a song in the classroom with the help of the
Laptop
“ Ganga Yamuna sangama samathala bhoomi”.
Did you like the song?
What is the theme of this song?
After consolidating the answers teacher enters into the topic.
Yes
Yes
8. ACTIVITY -1
Teacher shows the pictures of the earth trough OHP. Then teacher
explains that the surface of the earth consists of mountains, planes,
valleys, oceans, rivers etc.
Later he shows the pictures of mountain regions like Munnar, and
Wayanad and asks the following question.
Why these regions are generally characterized by Ups and Downs?
Later teacher explains that the Ups and Downs
occurred due to some movements from the inside the earth and
various processes.
Pupil watch the pictures
Pupil listen carefully
9. ACTIVITY 2
Teacher asks the following questions to the pupil
1. Have you ever seen well digging process in your locality?
2. Are you like to see the interior of earth?
Teacher shows a video which explains the interior of earth which
consists of Crust, Mantle, Inner core and Outer core.
Later teacher explains the peculiarities of each layer.
Yes
Yes
Pupil watch the video
carefully and
enthusiastically
10. ACTIVITY -3
Teacher shows a table which contains the Depth and Density of
different layers of interior of Earth through OHP
LAYER
Approximate depth
in KMs
Average Density
A Crust 0-40 2.9
B Mantle 40-2900 4.5
C Outer core 2900-5150 10.7
D Inner core 5150-6371 15
11. Then teacher divides the Pupil into 4 groups and gives activity
cards. Then teacher asks them to tabulate the depth and density
of different layers of the earth.
Later he asks the leaders of each groups to present their finding
and he consolidates their answers,
The crust has 0-40 km Depth and has 2.9 Density. The mantle has
40-2900 km depth and 4.5 Density. The Outer core has a depth of
2900-5150 km and density of 10.7. The Inner core has a depth of
5150-6371 Km and density of 15.
Pupil began to discuss
They present their ideas
Pupil listen carefully
12. FORMATIVE EVALUATION PROCEDURE
REVIEW
1. What is the reason for the ups and downs in the surface of the earth?
2. What change happens in temperature and pressure as we goes deeper and deeper
Into the earth?
3. Describe about the interior of the earth?
Follow up activity
When you go on a study tour make a note of the different land forms you
noticed?
