A detailed lesson plan in Science 8
I. Objectives
1. Perform the activity 2: Red versus Violet
2. Identify the different bending of each colors of light
3. Analyze how refractive indices varies with the bending of light
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic : Colors Of Light
Subtopic: Red versus Violet
Reference: Science Learners Module; pp.101-103
B. Concepts:
The greater the refractive index of the color, the more it is bent. Violet has the greatest value of refractive
index making it to be the most bent from all the colors of light.
C. Materials
2 sheets of white paper, a small mirror, flashlight, prism
D. Skills
, identifying, analyzing, inductive reasoning
E. Values Integration:
Appreciate that each colors of light has its own identity based from its own bending and index of refraction
resulting to hierarchical spectrum of light in a form of rainbow.
F. Strategies:
Constructive learning , probex
III. Learning Task
A. Routines:
Greetings
Prayer
Checking of attendance
Checking of materials/ preparation
B. Motivation ( Post Lab Discussion)
Brain Storming Through Pictures
The students will be group intofive. Then the teacherwill post a picture on the board and each group will be
given 10 minutes tothink of at least 5 words that they can associate tothe picture and form it into sentences related to
the previous lesson. One or Tworepresentative of each group will present theirideas in front of the class.
C. Explanation of the procedure
Call 3-4 students.
Procedure:
1. Place or position two glass prisms on top of a white sheet of paper and near a white screen. It would be better if the white
screen is positioned vertically.
2. 2. Position a flashlight on the other side of the prism. Switch on the flashlight and let the light strike the mirror.
3. Make the necessary adjustment in the position of the prism or in the position of the flashlight until you observe a clear view
of the different colors of light on the screen.
4. Mark the position of the colors of light on the white screen. Mark also the positions of the flashlight and the prism
on the white sheet of paper.
5. Trace the light beam from the flashlight to the prism. Then trace the light ray from the prism toeach of the colors of light
on the white screen.
6. Draw line AO that bisects the prism located nearthe white screen vertically.
D. Activity Proper
Students will perform the activity 2 and dothe following;
Prepare the set up (selected students)
Observe and record the data gathered
Answerthe activity output in a short coupon bond
Teachers’ activity
E. Analysis
Let us discuss the answers of our activity 2.
Q7. Did you observe the colors of light just as they appeared in the
first activity?
Q8. How were thes e colors of light arranged on the white screen?
Q9. With respect to line AO, which among the colors of light on the
white screen is most bent, red light orblue light?
Below is a table of wavelength and refractive indices of the
color of light in a crown glass prism.
Students’ response
>> yes ma’am. R, O, Y, G, B, V
>> they were arranged hierarchically, from top to bottom- R, O, Y, G,
B, V
>> with respect to line AO, the blue light is the most bent

3. F. Abstraction
Q10. How would you relate the refractive index with the bending of the color of light?
G. Application
On a ½ sheet of paper draw a rainbow and explain why blue is more bent than red. Give the refractive index of the different colors of light: R, O, Y, G, B, V.
IV. EVALUATION
A. Knowledge
1. Compare the refractive indices of red and blue light, which one is of greater value?
a. Blue b. red
2. Where can we locate the position of red light on the spectrum of colors?
a. bottom b. top
3. Which among the colors based on the activity is the most bent?
a. Red b. blue
4. It pertains to the speed of light as it passes to its medium.
a. Wavelength b. refractive index
5. An object that enables the splitting up of white light into its component colors with respect to their refractive
indices.
a. Refraction b. prism
B. Understanding
1. Which among them states the truth about the bending of light
I. The greater the refractive index of the color, the more it bents
II. The refractive index of each color is directly proportional to its bending of light
III. The red light based on the activity is the most bent from all the colors
IV. The blue light is least bent from all the colors
a. I only b. II and III c. III and IV d. I and II
V. AGREEMENT
Bring 2 sheets of bond paper
Perform the activity 4 on pages 105-108 to be submitted on Tuesday as your project.
