Planning, research, aesthetics and technical skills improved
1. 7. Looking back at your preliminary
task, what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression from it to
the full product?
2. Skills Learnt?
There are 4 main
skills;
• Planning
• Research
• Aesthetics
• Technical
Stages to make the
magazine?
• Research: Audience, Market
• Planning: Pitch, Flatplans, Style
Sheet, Photography Plans, Draft
Layouts.
• Production: Image Minipulation,
Text Manipulation, Layout,
Photography.
3. Planning
I have learnt that panning is key to have a
very successful product. It is important as I
allows you to organize and structure your
time wisely.
For the college magazine I did not do any
formal planning at all and looking at both
final products this can be seen in the
production and style of them both, one being
the better of the two.
There is a style that has continued with the
magazine but it is noticeably different in that
is is for more sophisticated and professional
looking. My skills have developed on from
the preliminary task as I have done a lot more
planning and became to create the product
very early on.
4. Research
I have learnt throughout that research is very important
in learning about what you don’t already know, and
expanding on what you do know.
For the preliminary task I already new who I was
targeting my magazine at, where as for this music
magazine I didn’t so I had to look more
into this with a questionnaire, look also
into what other music magazines
contain weather I wanted to create
something completely different or
something similar.
Also the publisher research allowed me
to learn about what other companies
are doing with here magazines and
how they are advertising them.
All of this research has helped
me to lean more about the
music industry, the magazine
industry and how they are
constructing everything
professionally.
5. Aesthetics
This is how something looks (aesthetically
pleasing). How it is appealing to the
audience and what draws them to look at
the magazine.
I have used Photoshop for both task as I
felt using something different would mean
starting from scratch, this is a bad idea
when I have the experience already.
I have learnt how to do multiple skills I new
about and skills I have learnt all on one
page on photo shop, I feel as though that in
its self is a skill. I also feel as though being
able to do this has aloud my magazine to
look so much better than the preliminary
task has.
6. Technical
I have learnt a range of new technical techniques
when working towards this magazine.
I have progressed a lot from the preliminary task
because I only used one type of software to
complete this (Photoshop). Where as my final
product used a wider variety of technology's,
survey monkey, bridge, word, PowerPoint etc.
The survey that I conducted helped my to answer
pretty much every question that I had or needed
to answer for my magazine, about price,
aesthetics, social media etc. Survey Monkey aloud
me to put my survey onto Facebook, twitter and
many other social media sites to allow myself to
gather as many responses as possible.
