3. The final music video for me personally resulted very successful, as it clearly conveys the emotion and
memories that the performer faces, through the help of flashbacks, allowing the audience to fully
understand and identify with her story and the song lyrics – which would help boost sales, as it
something that many can relate to where they almost feel as if the artist understands them; which is
the audience gratification of personal identity where the audience will use the video to find out about
themselves as the performer may reflect the audience. It adheres to the stereotypical conventions of
a music video by having attractive male and female performers to entice the people to watch it, which
is a line of appeal also known as emulation and envy it also contains narrative and performance based
shots allowing the audience to see both sides of her life– the ‘normal’ side where she faces
relationship and emotion troubles and also her ‘star’ side of life where she is seen to have it all and
she's happy in her lifestyle; this is then reinforced by the ‘mirror shot’ signifying the battle she faces
daily reflecting the song lyrics. Furthermore I think the video has met audience expectations that
were outlined in my qualitative research adhered to my research (vox pops) which helped to shape
music video. The video still keeps the grey scale and reflection type imagery which I used in the
ancillary texts – which helps to build a strong and consistent brand image around the artist.
4. CD Design
The CD design is highly effective as I believe it
has a strong brand identity and they all
work very well together to convey the
artist as someone who is not the typical
‘strong’ female but someone who is
emotional, vulnerable but on the other
hand talented and of star quality. The black
and white /grey scaled colour scheme I
used throughout the design helps to give a
classic, icon like imagery and helps connote
the battle between her self the contrast of
dark tones against the lighter grey colours.
The sparkle effects used in the inlays
connote the constant life of being in the
light of the media – it could almost be seen
as paparazzi flashes. The typography I used
in the design was meant to give a much
more personal touch to the design –
allowing it to look as if it is the artist
handwriting – her diary notes when going
through her problems that she writes
about.
5. Poster Design
The poster design again links in with the artist
brand identity very well. The medium shot
of her looking directly into the camera
allowing her to stand out and captivates
the audience of the music world and
confidence in her music . The main image is
in colour in the poster design as I wanted
to convey the message of her coming alive
with her music; the image will be very eye
catching and will hopefully make readers of
magazines stop and read the
advertisement – helping to build her fan
base. The review from the guardian helps
to push sales as it is a trusted source and
cleverly the poster reflects the quote in its
design with the ‘Q’ looking like an angel
halo. The album is clearly advertised with
the simple and clean cut layout however if I
was to improve upon the poster design I
would research more into air brushing and
apply the effect more naturally on her face.
I would also include initiations logos like
iTunes and amazon that help distribute the
album in this the digital age.
6. I personally think the combination worked extremely well together with the use of
colour scheme and reflection focused artwork that I used when producing the
final ancillary work. To support that point when creating the album art work I
choose to go with a damaged wall background theme which helps tie the more
vulnerable side of her however it has been faded into the background as she
wants to be portrayed as someone who conquers and overcomes her problems,
which audiences may look up to. Quinn Harper wants to portray her songs as
songs that talk about real situations and real feeling that women go through. All
together the ancillary task all have a strong brand identity and can be easily
identified as Quinn Harpers album artwork which is something I aimed towards
creating - as it will help the artist to build her image in the music world. I truly
believe that the ancillary task that I created is very effective and could be used in
the real world due to the extensive research we undertook prior to the
production of each task. of existing media products. I believe I have created an
institution for the ‘brand/artist’ and the entire production together efficiently
communicates with the target audience to show that each piece refers to the
same artist.
Editor's Notes
Great to use stills but you need to annotate them to explain what they show examples of, and link this to how this shows evidence of effective branding. You may need to do 2 or 3 per slide.
