My ancillary genre theory
My A2 production of a music video is all based around the pop genre. There are many connotations
used within my digipack/poster through certain colours that are used which come across as very
“girlie”. Within the pop genre girl bands are usually represented as fighting for “girl power” and are
all portrayed to be the best of friends. The audience for my A2 production would be mainly
young/early teenage girls who all idolise the lifestyle that the girls in the band live as they all want to
be rich and famous whilst having the opportunity to spend your everyday life with your best friends.
The images and coloured used within my production are very pastel colours such as; pink, yellow
and blue which all have connotations of calm, happy and feminine things. The narrative of the
picture used within the poster promoting the artists CD is that all the girls still enjoy having fun. They
it portrayed by all the girls posing and pulling funny faces similar to which their fans would do. By the
girls all wearing skirts and a pastel coloured jumper is shows that they’re all very feminine and
somewhat still “down to earth” as they aren’t all dressed up in designer outfits with lots of jewellery.
On my poster for example the band’s name is positioned in the primary optical area which
automatically helps viewers to know who the poster is for, also by the album name being in a black
font unlike the rest of the writing it makes it stand out. With the image of the band being at the
bottom of the poster it makes use of the weak fallow area and again reinforces audiences belief of
who the poster is for. My A2 production which is my music video is very typical in relation to the
genre of Pop. Many typical conventions are used within things such as my digipack and poster such
as bright colours and images of the artist/band “having fun”. Another typical convention of the pop
genre is sans serif, bold and bright fonts which I have used as it helps to entice the artists target
audience and again enforces the beliefs that the artists are always “having fun”.
Bold/bright sans serif font
Pastel girlie colours
Image of the entire band together having fun
(shown by them pulling “funny faces”)
Everyday normal clothes that their fans could
wear (normal pastel coloured jumpers and
black skirts)
