As the year 1776 began in the American colonies, tension with King George III's England was at
perhaps an all–time high. Americans were frustrated with the actions of their rulers overseas. Taxes
and trade restrictions had been placed on them, and British and mercenary soldiers occupied their
towns and cities. There had even been fighting at Lexington, Concord, and Bunker Hill. As America
grew, England's hold on it tightened, and a few voices began speaking of independence. The loudest
and most convincing of these belonged to Thomas Paine, born in England and living in

It claims all monarchs are despots, cut off from their people and craving for absolute power. "Male
and female are the distinctions of nature," Paine wrote, "good and bad the distinctions of heaven; but
how a race of men came into the world so exalted above the rest . . . is worth enquiring into" (Paine
9). Government is a necessary evil, a "badge of lost innocence," that tends to get in the way of
civilized society. Modern civilizations should organize themselves into local, self–governing
societies with only representational government, suggested Paine, not an all–powerful monarch. "Of
more worth is one honest man to society, and in the sight of God, than all the crowned ruffians that
ever lived" (Paine 17). Paine went on to speak in more conventional terms about the specific nature
of the conflict. He had anticipated that readers would be startled by his conclusions, and defended
against possible objections. Uncertainty in the British Empire, some caused by disturbances in
America, was bad for commerce. England would continue to drag Americans into European wars
that were not their affair, said Paine, and protect them only when beneficial to themselves.
Americans would not require their protection; they already had the means to defend their land.

The acts also instituted the need to enforce mercantilist policies in the Americas. The Sugar Act was
passed to place a regulation on trade in the colonies to indirectly tax tea (one of the most demanded
products in the Americas). Another act that passed was the Stamp Act. This was the first direct tax
on colonial peoples. They responded to this with the plea "no taxation without representation". This
was a saying that meant the British could not rightfully institute taxes on the colonists because they
did not have any political say in whether or not they wanted to be taxed. Practically there was no
way that a semi–independent nation 3,000 miles away from Britain could be represented in their
government. This was a ploy by the radicals used to market and spark the idea of American

invaded Virginia (Blumrosen & Blumrosen, 2006). About five thousand and twenty thousand slaves

This has been the belief since trials in the 1960's when people started use a phrase "wall of

In the world there are two distinct types of things. There are things that exist external to us, such as
one's reputation or a relationship. We do not have direct control over these things since they exist
outside of us. Then there are internal things that we do have control over, like out desires, or things
we dislike. The internal things can be controlled, while the external can be harder to control. Some
philosophers even believe that the external things cannot be controlled, and attempting to control

By acting in this manner the individual pays attention to the external things. While Epictetus
believes we have no control, it seems that we may have some control. We have control over our
actions, and our actions can influence these external things. In this case the care and sympathy, have
an effect on the man. While no one can directly control things that are not their actions, they still
have things in their control, namely their actions. In fact, our actions can even have an effect on the
things that Epictetus believes we can not influence.

effort to control these things. A person does not just stop paying any attention to their body because
they cannot influence the time it takes to heal from an injury. While people do not always have
direct control over their body, that alone is not sufficient to say it should be ignored. If someone
took this Epictetian view that the body cannot be controlled, then they would have no reason to care
for their body. Some things like, disease or injury cannot always be controlled but the body should

and moving war–drama movies of all time. There are very few films today that even come
close to touching upon the American Revolution, which is why "The Patriot" is of such

seat and allows the center of the story to revolve around Benjamin Martin (played by
Mel Gibson) and his South Carolina family. Some examples of this would be the focus on

When comparing the four articles we had found, we noticed that though they are presenting the
same information of the Iran nuclear deal, but they seem to tell it in separate ways. The articles
come from two American papers (one Liberal, Washington Post, and one Conservative, Washington
Times), a British newspaper (The Guardian), and an Iranian paper (the Tehran Times). In the sense
of discussing the big facts of the story itself, all four papers refer to the deal as either "historic" or
"landmark," which could be considered a neutral stance since it could mean either the good or bad
connotations of the words. All four also discuss Israel's concerns, though some emphasize it more
than others. Mention of President Obama's plan to veto any legislation that is created to overturn the
deal is also in all four. Also discussed are the Iranian centrifuges, if only just mentioned, they are
stated in all papers. Another trait that the articles have in common is that their sources seem to be
press releases and direct quotes about the deal. From that simplification alone, they may seem
similar, but there are some huge differences when it comes to the framing of this story. Regarding
Israel's concerns, each paper has taken a different approach to addressing it. In the Washington

Today, the Middle East has become more dysfunctional due to various Countries changing

"The Great Awakening" A revitalization of religious piety that swept through American colonies
during the 1730–1770 was known as the Great Awakening. Christian life was of real importance to

From the start of Judges, war is a prevalent theme. This theme is present in the first verse when the

the Lord raised up judges to deliver Israel from the oppression they faced. Even Gideon was referred

colonies. Consequently, Americans who thought these actions violated their political and
constitutional liberties opposed these policies with petitions, boycotts, and resistance strategies

by a written constitution would be more beneficial to society. To strengthen the concept of
democracy, Paine speaks of a hypothetical society brought up in an isolated part of the world, away

Moving to the new world was like escaping to an "asylum" for those who sought religious freedom
(Paine 324). Paine also believed that we would be allies with the rest of Europe if we broke out ties
with England. American trade suffered every time Europe had a war that involved England (Paine
325). Although Thomas Paine had great thoughts and ideas, it wasn't until Thomas Jefferson helped

Post–Cold War era is marked by the dominance of peace negotiations in international security, and
Middle–east (ME) being a conflict area for a long time, got adequate focus. Tale of oil rich ME is a
story of conflicts having Israel–Palestine issue at the core, and the stability and peace of this region
largely hinged on to the solution of this issue. So far, a number of unsuccessful initiatives have been
taken by world community for the solution of the issue. 'Roadmap for peace' was one of such

this also turned into a failure. Though the share of blame for failure goes to all stake holders,
however, USA got the large share of blames from international community due to her bias stance

Frederick Douglass in my opinion. Franklin was provided with a school and came from a nice

He is his father's fifteenth child and he is the youngest son. His father had him put into grammar
school when he was only eight years old because he liked to read. He said "my father intending to
