Evaluation q. 2
1. How effective is the
combination of your main
production and your ancillary
task?
2. Colour
The use of black and white is apparent in all three of my productions.
The music video which was my main production features black and white in
the band shots sequence of the video (chorus’). The website which was one of
my ancillary tasks features black and white in the background image which is
visible via the transparency of the text boxes. Finally the digipak which was
the second ancillary task uses black and white throughout the whole digipak
with both the background image and the titles.
Therefore, in terms of colour, all of my productions go very well together as
they all match the use of black and white making for consistency throughout
my production work.
3. Mise-En-Scene
In terms of mise–en-scene, the featuring of money is apparent throughout my
productions which also remains consistent and relevant to the song name for
the music video “Where D’ya Get Ya Money From?”
During the music video, the use of money is present where the actual
transaction takes place which then establishes the chase scene of the
narrative. This use of money is matched in the ancillary task of the digipak
because the background of the front and back cover if the digipak is an image
of scattered out money.
The use of money in both of these productions makes for the productions to
work well together as a combination as the use of money in mise-en-scene is
consistent throughout.
4. Band Shots
The use of band shots in the productions is relatively consistent throughout
my work.
In the music video which was my main production, the use of band shots in
the chorus’ and occasional band shots to break up the narrative is present
throughout the video. The ancillary task of the digipak features band shots on
the two inside sides of the digipak. One of the photos is of the band actually
playing and the other is with them posing with an England flag.
This use of band shots works well because the photos where taken at the
same occasion as the music video was actually filmed, therefore the mise-en-
scene of the two different band shots is identical as I used the same practice
room when gathering the shots. My productions therefore work well together
because they use the same band shots throughout.
5. Title
In terms of titles through two of my productions they remain consistent and
match but in the music video it was difficult to feature any title because this
would then go against a convention so I did not use titles in the video.
The same title font is used in both the website homepage and the digipak. It
was also in white with a black shadow which again matches the colour
segment of the presentation.
This use of the same title came from an image of a band members motorcycle
which had a ‘The Tennysons’ sticker on it in this exact font, this lead me to
using this font throughout my productions so that the combination of both
ancillary tasks work well together.
6. Conclusion
All three of my productions (music video, digipak and website homepage) work
well together in the sense that they are all consistent with uses of colour, mise-
en-scene, band shots and also through title. There is alterations in some cases of
which productions are actually consistent with one another, for example in some
cases it is the ancillary’s which work together and in other cases it is the music
video and one of the ancillaries or even all three working together. This makes
for a consistent style being used throughout all three of the productions which
leads me to the conclusion that the combination of all three of my productions is
very effective.
