1. Skye Nel Music Video Evaluation – Final Edit.
The song I used for my music video was originally ‘Witch Craft’ by Pendulum. But this was
changed very late into the assignment by myself because I decided to redo all my footage
and redo my entire music video. This was because the footage our group had gathered had
been poor, badly filmed and there wasn’t enough to finish the first minute. Once I decided
to change my music video idea, I needed to choose a new song, and film a lot more footage.
The footage I gathered for my Final edit:
The video footage I gathered the second time round was a lot better than I had on my first
shoot. This was because I had help from a friend who knew how to use a camera. The shots I
took were a lot different and they were at night time so it made it harder to get everything
with the correct lighting. This is why in most of the footage there is a lot of ‘Noise signal’.
This is where there isn’t enough light so the camera tries to create what’s there by putting
this video noise in.
You can see, on my face and around the edge of the hood
that there wasn’t enough light to hold a distinctive and sharp
line.
I personally feel that the noise from the camera give the
footage a weird but good sort of look about it. And I think
although it would have been better having it clear ad sharp
the blur from the noise makes it look more mysterious and
dangerous.
I also think that the colours have changed due to this. And
also it gives the video a lot more character.
There is a bit I the music video that looked so fake. It’s between [1:14-1:19]. This is the bit in
the clip when I hit Emma with my ball’n’stick. The reason I had to make this so fake is
because I wanted the swing to look real and Emma to drop as if she had been hit. But the
ball’n’stick is a very dangerous thing and if I had hit here I would have cracked her skull
open. This is why it I had to make the distance between the tip of the club and Emma’s head
so far.
The edits I used on the footage: I used a lot of colour correction edits and a lot of
brightness and saturation enhancement. This was due to the lighting issues we had when
we were filming. These Post production techniques are used to make my video easier to see
and they bring out the images a lot more. This intern made my overall music video a lot
better. On near enough all the clips with low or poor lighting I used visual effects to enhance
the brightness, contrast, saturation and colours.
2. This is because I feel that the colour changes made the different sections and parts of the video to
make the charactors either stand out or blend into the video.
At the time [2:05-2:07] I layered the 2 different clips over one another, I
then changed the opacity of the one on top to 25%. This made botht the
clips played at the same time. The not only gave it a wicked effect but it also
showed me following where shannon walked.
Music timing, and clip changing. The reason why music clips
change when the do is all to do with the timig in the song. I did this because nearly all of the
music videos I like or watch have camera angle changes very oftern but on spacific angles
they hold it for another musical 4/4 bar. This is normally to show something dramatic or just
a long clip.
If I could redo this Unit and have the chace to recreate the music video I would cage a few
things, for starters I would change the lighting. This would be my main priority, I would try
and find a more lit area of a different park and I would give myself a lot more time to film.
This would make my music video a lot better because the shorts would be perfectly focused
because I could redo them, and I wouldn’t change my idea right near the dead line. I would
also change the story line a bit, creating more room for clips and giving me more time to do
better edits. Also I would use my time more wisley and make the clip a lot neater. But on a
whole, I wouldn’t change a great deal about my music video as I really like it.
