2. Little mix –Wings
This is a performance and concept based video. As it
shows both all of them singing and dancing to the beat,
helping to amplify it as a whole; and its concept is them
doing some scenes separately, as a group and with
backing dancers.
3. The camerawork used is also pretty common for pop
videos, as there are lots of close ups of each of the
singers; including several split screens too. This gives
them all a similar amount of screen time. As this song
has a relatively fast beat it has consistent editing with
the amount and frequency of cuts. Most of the cameras
movements are tracking, going towards and away from
them using a Steadicam. But there is a little hand held
where the camera wobbles to the music and it matches
the edit.
4. The location seems to be in a large studio with
multiple areas for all of the singers to have their own
section. The colours and lighting they have are very
bright, as well as this being studio lighting there are
edits with bright overlays or sections. The way they
look is very stereotypical for the pop genre, as they
all wear bright clothing, which is fairly revealing and
could be considered inappropriate for their
audience. They all have on make-up and there hair
has been professionally done, trying to make them
look perfect. All of this has been done to amplify the
song.
5. Ellie Goulding –Outside
This also is a performance and concept based video, it
shows her at the start singing before cutting to the
concept section. This has a slight narrative too as the
lyrics match aspects of the song, helping to enhance it.
6. The camerawork uses lots of close ups of her and the
other people in the video. This focuses most of the
screen time on her as the main artist. This song also has
a fast beat and consistent editing with the cuts used. A
lot of the time the camera is still and focused on a mid-
shot of the narrative/concept used, but it does have
some movements like tracking, and zooms.
7. This has a few different locations and a lot of it is shot
outside on a road/street, but there are a few scenes shot
inside the house. The lighting is a mix of bright and dark
colour, which also matches the lyrics. The way she looks
is fairly stereotypical as she isn’t wearing bright clothing,
neither is it especially revealing. But it’s still considered
to match pop as her hair and makeup matches it and is
pretty similar to Little Mix’s.
8. Taylor Swift –shake it off
Like the others this is a performance and concept based
video. But it is slightly different as it shows a variety of
different ideas through the video.
9. Close ups of her and some of the dancers in the video are
used a lot in this, but most of them are on her. This song
also has a fast beat and consistent editing with the cuts
used. The camera seems to be constantly still, but there
are large amounts of cuts even when the beat is relatively
slow. Other than those the shots are then mid to full
body shots.
10. A couple of locations have been used but most of it
seems to be in a plain dance studio. The lighting is
bright and consistent. As the scene/clothes she’s in is
changing every so often, but it is stereotypical of other
genres as well as pop, including ballet, and rap.
