We've seen the polls on the Republican candidate standing in the 2016 US Presidential race. However, who's leading in social media and major news sources? Also, who is most engaged with the public in their race to the presidency? This presentation is a consolidated view of three published reports to answer questions about party mentions, candidate mentions, and candidate engagement on social media.

An analysis of party and candidate mentions in social media and major news sources

2. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Based on the analytics performed over one month, the following insights are observed:
• Over 3.5 million mentions of the Republican party are
observed in social media and major news sources,
compared to 1 million mentions of the Democratic party.
• Mentions peak at similar timeframes for both parties: June
25-26, July 9, and July 14. However, the number of
mentions significantly differs. On June 26, there are 200K
mentions of the Republican party, compared to a peak of
44K of the Democratic party.
• In mentions of the Republican party, Trump emerges in
discussions, followed by Bush. In mentions of the
Democratic party, Clinton emerges in discussions, followed
by Sanders.
• Although covered in major news sources, mentions on
Twitter lead for both political parties.
• Candidates are on Twitter also. Who’s tweeting the most?
Trump leads with 855 tweets, followed by Walker, Cruz,
Paul, and Graham. (~357 tweets each). Who’s tweeting
the least? Perry (97)
• People are talking to the candidates on Twitter - over 3.8M
tweets. Trump leads (2.2M), with Cruz (326K) and Walker
(210K) following. Perry ranks 8th in number of tweets
received, but ranks last among candidates tweeting.
Graham ranks high on tweeting (5th) but low on tweets
received (14th). Bush ranks 4th in tweets received, but only
11th in postings.
• Over 12 million mentions of the Republican candidates in
social media and major news sources are observed. Trump
dominates (8.3M mentions), followed by Cruz (729K),
Walker (564K), and Bush (527K). Pataki (31K) is mentioned
the least, behind Fiorina (114K), Carson (110K), and Kasich
(101K).
• Mentions of Kasich (last in overall mentions ranking) have
the highest positive sentiment (32%), followed by Cruz
(30%). Mentions of Graham have the lowest positive
sentiment (19%). Mentions of Trump have the highest
negative sentiment (26%), followed by Perry and Graham
(25% each).

mentioned? Trump leads with 8.3M mentions, followed by Cruz (729K), Walker (564K), and Bush (527K). Who’s mentioned the least?
Pataki (31K). Trump has the highest number of daily mentions at 418K, followed by Walker (155K) and Christie (119K). Republican
candidates are most mentioned on Twitter. Whose mentions have the highest positive sentiment? Kasich (32%), followed by Cruz
