Analysis Of The Don Moyer Boys And Girls Club
The community organization my group chose to research in Champaign County was the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club. I will begin with a
description of the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club including the history of the organization as well as the activities that take place at the club. I will then
talk about the role that that Don Moyer plays in the Champaign–Urbana community that was learned through an interview with Ray Pratt who is
current Director of Finance at Don Moyer. Being that I am familiar with the Boys & Girls Club organizations both in Champaign and Chicago, I will
share how I have connected with the organizations within the past few years. Being that the organization was founded to improve certain communities,
I will explain how the activities... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As discussed in the lecture, world hunger is an issue and has been in the lime light sine the 2007 – 2008 recession and food crisis. Poverty and the price
of food are two causes of world hunger. Fortunately, every member at the club receives nutritious meals throughout the day as well as healthy snacks
in between activities. Besides hunger, Don Moyer also put efforts to reduce the global inequality issue of education. According to lecture, achieving
universal primary education is one of the millennium development goals. One activity Don Moyer has instilled in their daily routine is Power Hour.
Power Hour is an activity where homework is done for one hour with assistance from the Greek fraternities and sororities of the University of Illinois
at Urbana–Champaign. The success stories mentioned demonstrates an example of how of Don Moyer relates to broader issue of eradicating extreme
poverty and hunger. As stated in the Wealth. Poverty and the MDG slides, the target goals are to decrease the amount of those without an income. Don
Moyer puts members in a position to strengthen their chances of gaining employment while in high school. Ray Pratt highlights how Don Moyer
recognizes the inequality of income within the families that the members come from. 40% of the African American members come from households
that earn $15,000 a year. Although they

Essay about Comparison of Socrates and Siddhartha Guatama...
Socrates and Siddhartha Guatama Buddha have many similarities; they both believe in the importance of justice and good, and a simpler way of life.
However, they have different goals: Socrates concerns with worldly meanings and codes, he deals with truth and morals. Buddha concerns with
attaining the outer–worldly through mastering the worldly. Socrates relinquishes sensual desires in hopes of spiritual rebirth after death and achieving
enlightenment in life. Buddha relinquishes the same ideas, but in hopes of living an enlightened life on earth. (The Dhammapada: Socrates & Buddha

In contrasting, other believers view abortion as an immorality. Because of this, the principle of free will does not allow any forecast based on the
so–called prior cause, but it allows the self–determined and the external forces. The fact is that the principles of ethics are products of human beings,
and moral responsibility itself is not indistinguishable in different traditions and societies. Therefore, according to Libertarians The Ideas of Free Will
and Responsibility in Buddhist Ethics, " if human beings are controlled by prior causes as a mechanistic system, then human behaviors can be
predicted with the same degree of certainty", however, human behavior is in fact non–mechanistic and exists in a biological system. With this being
said, human beings acquire free will. Thus, human existence, in the ethical sense, is controlled not by external surroundings or by any prior foundation,
but by the inner free will of each individual. The fact that Socrates sought an authentic knowledge rather than a simple triumph over an opponent, he
used the same logical actions developed by the Sophists to a new intention, the pursuit of truth. Even after Socrates has been convicted by the jury, he
refuses to dispose of his pursuit of the truth in all matters. Refusing to escape from Athens, he continues that public argument of the matters of life and
virtue is

technology. It is teamwork that remains the ultimate competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful and so rare. A friend of mine, the
founder of a company that grew to a billion dollars in annual revenue, best expressed the power of teamwork when he once told me, "If you could
get all the people in an organization rowing in the same direction, you could dominate any industry, in any market, against any competition, at any
time." Whenever I repeat that adage to a group of leaders, they immediately nod their heads, but in a desperate sort of way. They seem to grasp the
truth of it while simultaneously surrendering to the impossibility of actually making it happen. And that is where the rarity of teamwork comes into
play. For all the attention that it has received over the years from scholars, coaches, teachers, and the media, teamwork is as elusive as it has ever been

Woodrow Wilson Leadership Style
Multiple different Presidents during the 20th century went in and out of the Oval Office in the White House serving their country the best way they
could. However, two men out of these many great Presidents, holds a place in American history as perhaps the some of the greatest leaders this country
has ever had. During this time there were are two extraordinary smart and educated men that represented both the dreams and aspirations of the
American people during such a uproarious time in United States history. Both of these men held leadership qualities that no one could rival. They had
strong views for America, and held anomalous ideas on foreign policy. These gentlemen were Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson.

Wilson continued with a couple of TR's reforms. For example, the income tax to support the people, and the federal reserve. During his term the
prohibition of drinking and selling alcohol was happening and act for women's right to vote was underway. Wilson father was also minister. One
of the mary aspects of Wilson was that he appeared to have a dangerous messiah complex where he thought he could save the world. He was
convinced by the idea that he himself, and no one else was able to enter the whole world into a new age of total peace. However, as a war leader he
was superb, in a way. He got the American people to believe they would fight a war to make the world safe for democracy and forever peaceful.
Out of Wilson's idealism came his fourteen points, which he presented to Congress in January of 1918. This appealed to people everywhere by
promising such objectives as ending secret treaties, freedom of the seas, and removing economic barriers. His fourteenth point was the League of
Nations, which was rejected by the Senate. He did however get the Treaty of Versailles accomplished during his term in June of 1919. Having that
said the treaty only included about four of the original fourteen points. Wilson was a man of peace without victory, who many argued tried to keep us
out of war. Wilson wanted to remain neutral. However, this proved to be increasingly impossible.

Essay 'League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen' By Bram Stoker
Social class can determine many things in a person's life, regarding wealth, education, and occupation. Michael Parenti, the author of the essay "Class
and Virtue,", argued that society's morals and virtues mainly belong to people who have the appearances and behaviors of the upper class. In 1865,
Bram Stoker composed Dracula, during a time when patriarchal society began to become vulnerable for women among the middle class. League of
Extraordinary Gentlemen by Alan Moore, a graphic novel written in 1999, depicts the change in women's roles and social positions, which are
important to note since they take place after the events in Dracula. Both authors show how class is a social hierarchy and can result in a loss or gain
of power. Although Stoker and Moore use different mediums, both authors showcase the influences of class has on the power of speech and mental
health; speech gives credibility to the upper class while mental health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speech in Dracula indicates that the upper class has the power to be heard first–hand. Most of the journal entries and diaries in the novel include
documentation from characters that are middle to upper class. For example in Lucy Westerina's Letter to Mina Murray states, "Mina, we have told
all our secrets to each other since we were children; we have slept together and eaten together, and laughed and cried together; and now though I
have spoken, I would like to speak more" ( Stoker 57). Lucy's speech in the letter reveals an eloquent dialect and shows sophistication of her writing.
Her eloquent speech is very persuasive and presents gracefulness when describing Mina and her friendship. This reveals that Lucy's upper class status
plays an important role to her proper speech; therefore, her class status and proper speech give her the power to be heard first–hand, which is indicated
by a multitude of her letters within the

Bill Bojangles Robinson
Bill "Bojangles" Robinson Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, who claimed he could run backward faster than most men could go forward, was the most
famous of all African American tap dancers in the twentieth century. Dancing upright and swinging, his light and exacting footwork brought tap "up on
its toes" from an earlier flat–footed shuffling style, and developed the art of tap dancing to a delicate perfection. Born Luther Robinson in Richmond,
Virginia, his parents, Maria and Maxwell Robinson, died in 1885. Young Bill was reared by his grandmother, Bedilia Robinson, who had been a slave.
In Richmond, he got the nickname "Bojangles" from "jangler," meaning contentious, and invented the phrase "Everything's Copasetic," meaning

Robinson had no doubts that he was the best at what he did, a self–confidence that some took to be arrogance and that was mixed with a sometimes
brooding depression at the fact that, because he was black, he had to wait until he was in his sixties before he could enjoy the fame and fortune
given to less talented white dancers. In fact, he appears to have been a remarkably generous man and in addition to his massive workload, he never
refused to appear at a benefit for those artists who were less successful or ailing. It has been estimated that in one year he appeared in a staggering
400 benefits. In 1930 Robinson had made a film, DIXIANA, but it was not until he went to Hollywood in the middle of the decade that he made a
breakthrough in this medium. He danced in a string of popular films, including some with Shirley Temple. By 1937 Robinson was earning $6,600 a
week for his films, a strikingly high sum for a black entertainer in Hollywood at the time. In 1943 he played his first leading role in STORMY

Steampunk Novels
Technology and fears of the time are two of the many themes seen in Steampunk novels. In Victorian novels such as H.G. Wells The Time Machine,
technology and advancement are viewed as the glue that keeps a civilized society together. However, in more modern works, such as the graphic
novel The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Volume 1 by Alen Moore and Kevin O'Neil, technological advancement is feared. Society is now
more concerned with human abuse of technology, specifically technology that causes harm to others. Through comparison of these works, one can see
how the concerns of a society effects the works of their time, or, perhaps, how the works of their time affect the fears of society. In H.G Wells,The Time
Machine, the Time Traveler... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wells lived in period after the Industrial Revolution, when England was a super power and was the most technologically advanced nation.
Technology had become a part of the lives of every man, woman and child in England. They saw how much their lives had benefited from it.
Knowing this, it's understandable that a fear that these people had would be losing the technology. Another way that Wells represents this in The
Time Machine is when the Time Machine is taken. After the Time Machine is taken, the Time Traveler finds himself trapped in the future, a place
that is foreign to him. This can be seen as a parallel between the novel and society at the time. Technology has become a part of their lives, and
without it, their lives would not be the same as before. In many way, they could feel that they are trapped in degenerate society without it, just as the
Time Traveler feels when he no longer has access to the Time Machine. How society degraded in The Time Machine can be seen from this quote: "I
saw an inscription in some unknown character. I thought, rather foolishly, that Weena might help me to interpret this, but I only learned that the bare
idea of writing had never entered her head." (Wells, Chapter 8) Since the technology that held words had been lost, and since society's drive to learn
and better itself was all but forgotten, the ability to read was no longer valued. Reading was very

Comparing League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Mary Reilly,...
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Mary Reilly, and Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde
Robert Louis Stevenson's short novel, The Strange Case of
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde has spawned many retellings of Dr. Jekyll's
tale, as well as variations on the theme. The Jekyll and Hyde conceit
is one that lends itself to many different forms of literature, such
as motion pictures and sequential art. Sometimes liberties are taken
in reinterpretations of Mr. Hyde from the original text. This can be
distinguished in two recent works, The League of Extraordinary
Gentlemen, a comic book miniseries by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill,
and Mary Reilly, a film by Stephen Frears.

In fact, as the movie
progresses, Jekyll becomes hairier, due to his going about unshaven,
but Hyde remains smooth–faced; and he has smooth, well manicured
hands, a contradiction to the original book. The only character that
looks like a stereotypical Hyde in the movie is Mary's father, which
goes to one of the themes the movie has; that of women in abusive
relationships due to childhood experiences.
The stature of Jekyll and Hyde in Stevenson's original tale
were two different things. Hyde was a "dwarfish" man, as described
by Utterson (41) and other people. This was highlighted on several
occasions where Hyde was wearing Jekyll's clothing. Lanyon described
Hyde as wearing "clothes... [that] were enormously too large for him
in every measurement" (72), and when Hyde is found dead in Dr.
Jekyll's cabinet, "[h]e was dressed in clothes far too large for
him, clothes of the doctor's bigness" (66). Mary Reilly maintained
this size disparity in some fashion. Since the parts of Jekyll and
Hyde were both portrayed by

Phantom And Twenty Thousand League Under The Sea Essay
The two books that I chose to read this summer were Phantom of the Opera and Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea. In Phantom of the Opera,
the main character being explored is The Phantom, also known as, Erik. Erik was thin, had a skeleton frame, and was always dressed in dress clothes.
He made no noise and did not speak. He stalked the building like a shadow. Mysterious events started occurring at the opera house, such as the death of
Joseph Buquet, and Christine suddenly becoming a musical prodigy. The Phantom offered peace with the managers of the opera house if they
followed some simple commands such as leaving monthly allowances for him. The managers ignored it because they believed this was all a hoax.

Captain Nemo was a very mysterious character in the novel. He was a genius who had a passion for the sea. He created a submarine, The Nautilus,
that used technology far more advanced than anything else of its time, in order to explore and to learn more about the oceans of the world. He was
very curious and willing to learn. In 1866, ships around the world were being attacked by an enormous thing, faster and larger than a whale. It was
larger, wider, and heavier than anything previously recorded in the history of fish. A group of men, on a boat called the Abraham Lincoln, set out to
uncover this mystery. The ship collided with the "thing" and flew some men overboard, including Conseil, Ned Land, and professor Pierre Aronnax.
These men were using something to float on in the water, and soon realized it was a submarine. Then, men with masks pulled them aboard. They were
told that they had freedom on the boat, but they were never allowed to leave. Captain Nemo invited the men to go hunting, diving and exploring with
him throughout the novel. Then, after 10 months aboard, the men decided they needed to leave. After several failed attempts, they managed to escape
during a whirlpool. They got knocked out by a piece of iron and next thing they knew, they were safe on a fisherman's

Modern Society as a Reflection of the Picture of Dorian...
Traditional gothic fiction was at the height of its popularity during the Victorian era, it exploded in the 1790's and continued its reign well into the
1800's. This confrontational style of fiction often blurs the lines of realistic and artificial, forcing readers to challenge their beliefs and surpass the
norm. However, the aspect of gothic fiction that was most attractive to the Victorian audience was the way human fears and societal tensions were
reflected in the deliberately fictionalised literary works. Themes such as the human greed for immortality and eternal beauty that underlie key gothic
texts such as Oscar Wilde's only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray have incited modern adaptations and the appropriation of these texts into ... Show

Dorian's callous reaction to Sybil's (his lover) suicide is corresponding to Voldemort's detached feelings for his Death Eaters. With power such the
immortality these two characters experience comes greed and self–glorification. Gray's statement that he has "seen too much in life to... shock easily"
is a demonstration of this narcissistic outlook. Rowling has further authenticated Wilde's Victorian text in her modern one by methodically paralleling
many of the facets of the original character. The shared disfiguration of the characters physic because of their unnatural desire for immortality links
both the past a present desires. Whilst Gary was "loathsome of visage," Voldemort was similarly "the most terrible face." Not only has Rowling used
their physical devastation but she has also linked them through their shared use of an alter–ego style name. Gray's influence over Sybil lead to the
guise of "Prince Charming" whilst to a more extreme (and modernised) complete change of name is the persona of "Lord Voldemort", both 'immortals'
gave themselves unprecedented royal titles. Rowling's clever dramatisation of the original Dorian Gray character has allowed for revolutionary use of
"the land of fantasies"(5) in which Voldemort's lust for immortality and inability to

How Did Alan Moore Influence Pop Culture
The acclaimed graphic novel author Alan Moore is well known for his extremely detailed, almost book like graphic novels. His most popular works
are the Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Batman: The Killing Joke, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Moore has won many awards for his
writing such as the Eisner award, and his most distinguished award, the Hugo Award in 1988. His book, TheWatchmen was at one time listed in the top

novels needed due to them not being the most popular, and almost looked down upon by some people. Alan Moore's writing changed many people's
views on pop culture, with his critically acclaimed comics and the highly respected awards he won. Why was his writing so different from other peoples

Creative Response Essay
The 19th century characters I have chosen to renegotiate in my creative response are three of the Bennet sisters from the novel 'Pride and Prejudice'
by Jane Austen. I have reconsidered the values of the three sisters, Mary, Lydia and Kitty and created a film script. I chose this medium as I have
previously studied the technique of script writing in my Media class and I thought it would be a more unique way to convey my creative response.
The film script is set in 19th century England and it focuses on The Bennet Women Refuge and Justice Alliance (BWRJA), as well as the society's
ideals of women and marriage at the time that saw a male dominance over women that further lead to the oppression of women's independence. In the

Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Symbolism
The Victorian period is apparent in the story largely because of the scientific nature of the tale. Dr. Jekyll is a doctor who dabbles around with
potion making, spending much of his time in his laboratory. This supports the fact that England had become a place of forward progress and
scientific thinking. In the story, Jekyll attempts to separate his two personalities by using a potion, and while speaking of his two personalities he
says, "If each, I told myself, could but be housed in separate identities, life would be relieved of all that was unbearable" (Stevenson 2272). He felt
that if he could just split the two sides of himself, good and evil, into two distinct people, then he could live a happier life without all the nonsense

Moreover, the ability Stevenson had to make such things even possible for the audience of this novel is quite talented and beautiful. When he
describes ghastly things, like the appearance of Hyde, and still finds a way to do so in a beautiful way it is inspiring. Also, the way that the story
places the reader in the midst of a scene from the story is quite beautiful, like the part of the story where Utterson describes his own easily liked nature,
he says, "Hosts loved to detain the dry lawyer, when the light–hearted and the loose–tongued had already their foot on the threshold; they liked to sit
awhile in his unobtrusive company, practising for solitude, sobering their minds in the man's rich silence after the expense and strain of gaiety"
(Stevenson 2249). It is the beauty of such things that contribute to the excellent quality of the story itself. There was a reason that it was an instant
best–seller when published. It connected to reader's lives and was written in a rather fantastic

The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Movies that feature characters adapted from novels often change personality traits in order to suit the film's plot. The League of Extraordinary
Gentlemen is no exception; Mina Harker and the Invisible Man had drastic changes made to their personality in order to better suit the storyline. Both
of them were given traits that starkly contradict their book personas to create more flawed and realistic characters.
The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells features Griffin, a scientist who has discovered how to turn himself and other things invisible. The story follows the
undoing of Griffin and his fall into notoriety. Wilhelmina "Mina" Harker is the opposite of Griffin. InDracula by Bram Stoker she is the dutiful wife to

This can be attributed to the fact that Rodney Skinner is not the original Invisible Man. Skinner is a petty thief who stole the formula for invisibility
and used it on himself. The biggest difference between Griffin and Skinner is their response to setbacks. In The Invisible Man Griffin has a terrible
temper. When things don't go his way he lashes out or injures those who try to stop him. Skinner, on the other hand, has a very calm demeanor. After
finding out that the League had been betrayed he didn't lash out; in fact he took that as an opportunity to prove himself as useful to the team. This
difference is caused by Griffin and Skinner's motivations. At first Skinner used his invisibility as a way to become a better thief. Despite his primary
intentions, Skinner began to use his invisibility for the greater good. Griffin however, wanted to use invisibility to gain recognition. It was ironic how
he turned himself invisible so people would begin to notice him.
Griffin's selfish behavior is made clear throughout The Invisible Man, especially towards the end. Griffin uses a man named Mr. Marvel as a pawn
and puts the old man in danger in order to protect himself. We also find out that his selfish behavior started long before he became invisible. We see
Griffin tell Kemp about how he stole money from his father to further his scientific investigations. This is opposite to Skinner's self–sacrificing
behavior in the

This book is dedicated to my family and friends, to those who have stood by my side, on good days and bad. I also want to dedicate it to all the kids
out there, those who feel different and don 't fit in.
Those who are seen for the wrong reasons. It 's OK to be different. Continue being yourself. It worked out for me.

CHAPTER 1
Pep Guardiola, the coach in Barcelona, with his grey suits and troubled face, came up to me looking concerned. I thought he was all right at that time,

It was the most stupid decision of my entire life. I was still killing on the field. But it wasn 't as fun anymore.
I even thought about quitting football. Not that I would break my contract, I 'm a professional. But I lost the fun. And then came Christmas break.
We went to Г…re and I rented a snowmobile. Whenever life stands still, I want action. I always drive like a maniac. I 've gone 325 km/hr in my
Porsche Turbo, leaving chasing cops behind. I 've done so many fucked up things I barely want to think about them. And now in the mountains I was
giving it my all on the snowmobile, got freeze burns and had the time of my life.
Finally some adrenaline! Finally the old, the real Zlatan, and I were thinking to myself: Why am I doing this? I have money. I don 't have to feelshit
with idiot coaches. I can have fun instead and take care of my family. It was a great time, but it didn 't last long. When we returned to Spain disaster
struck. Not immediately, but slowly. Disaster was in the air.
A light snowfall came. It was like the Spaniards had never seen snow before, and in our hood, in the hills above Barcelona, cars were smashing to the
left and right, and Mino, the fat idiot – the wonderful fat idiot I should add if anyone would misunderstand me – froze like a dog in his summer shoes
and light jacket and convinced me to take the Audi. It almost ended in disaster. On a downhill street we lost control of the car and smashed into a

There is consequently a vast and continuous effort going on to capture our minds in the interest of some policy or commodity or idea. It might be
better to have, instead of propaganda and special pleading, committees of wise men who would choose our rulers, dictate our conduct, private and
public, and decide upon the best types of clothes for us to wear and the best kinds of food for us to

Propaganda eat. But we have chosen the opposite method, that of open competition. We must find a way to make free competition function with
reasonable smoothness. To achieve this society has consented to permit free competition to be organized by leadership and propaganda. Some of the
phenomena of this process are criticized–the manipulation of news, the inflation of personality, and the general ballyhoo by which politicians and
commercial products and social ideas are brought to the consciousness of the masses. The instruments by which public opinion is organized and
focused may be misused. But such organization and focusing are necessary to orderly life. As civilization has become more complex, and as the need
for invisible government has been increasingly demonstrated, the technical means have been invented and developed by which opinion may be
regimented. With the printing press and the newspaper, the railroad, the telephone, telegraph, radio and airplanes, ideas can

Essay on The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde "The strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" was first published in1886, which was in the Victorian era.
Dr Jekyll was a scientist who went too far in his experiments. He found a formula for a potion, which when drunk could separate his dual persona
into good and pure evil. The formula not only affected him mentally but physically also. The evil side went by the name Edward Hyde, and he did
terrible things, he trampled a little girl and even murdered someone by the name of Sir Danvers Carew. There was no apparent reason for Hyde to
murder him; Mr Carew simply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stevenson seemed to use Darwin's theory in the transformation of Jekyll to Hyde, in the sense that Hyde is more "Ape like" than man. Although
another reason for the novella causing such a sensation may have been it was simply an exciting read. This is because it is going beyond life as we
know it, it shows us a drug that not only affects you mentally but physically too. This brings a sense of science fiction to the book. It tries to show us
what would happen if we could go a stage further in science.
Victorian England was a very dark time in history, rich people lived in big, 'posh' houses, whereas the less wealthy lived down back alleys in smaller
untidy buildings.
Middle class men in Victorian times were very 'good' they didn't go down to the pub for a 'booze up' they wouldn't talk about sex, instead they
would come home when they had finished work to see their wives. This could be a reason why the novella caused such a sensation, because Hyde
was evil, he trampled a little girl he committed murder and this was very unusual for someone like Henry Jekyll to want to do.
England was covered in a mix between fog and smoke, which was later called smog. This was described in all the back alley, mysterious, something
bad is about to happen, parts of the novella. An example of something that happens in this type of setting is the murder of

Analysis Of The Don Moyer Boys And Girls Club

  • 1. Analysis Of The Don Moyer Boys And Girls Club The community organization my group chose to research in Champaign County was the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club. I will begin with a description of the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club including the history of the organization as well as the activities that take place at the club. I will then talk about the role that that Don Moyer plays in the Champaign–Urbana community that was learned through an interview with Ray Pratt who is current Director of Finance at Don Moyer. Being that I am familiar with the Boys & Girls Club organizations both in Champaign and Chicago, I will share how I have connected with the organizations within the past few years. Being that the organization was founded to improve certain communities, I will explain how the activities... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As discussed in the lecture, world hunger is an issue and has been in the lime light sine the 2007 – 2008 recession and food crisis. Poverty and the price of food are two causes of world hunger. Fortunately, every member at the club receives nutritious meals throughout the day as well as healthy snacks in between activities. Besides hunger, Don Moyer also put efforts to reduce the global inequality issue of education. According to lecture, achieving universal primary education is one of the millennium development goals. One activity Don Moyer has instilled in their daily routine is Power Hour. Power Hour is an activity where homework is done for one hour with assistance from the Greek fraternities and sororities of the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. The success stories mentioned demonstrates an example of how of Don Moyer relates to broader issue of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger. As stated in the Wealth. Poverty and the MDG slides, the target goals are to decrease the amount of those without an income. Don Moyer puts members in a position to strengthen their chances of gaining employment while in high school. Ray Pratt highlights how Don Moyer recognizes the inequality of income within the families that the members come from. 40% of the African American members come from households that earn $15,000 a year. • 2. Buddha concerns with attaining the outer–worldly through mastering the worldly. Socrates relinquishes sensual desires in hopes of spiritual rebirth after death and achieving enlightenment in life. Buddha relinquishes the same ideas, but in hopes of living an enlightened life on earth. (The Dhammapada: Socrates & Buddha Vs. Desire) My contention is to compare Philosopher Socrates from Plato and Siddhartha Guatama Buddha, and I will demonstrate their similarities and differences... Because of this, the principle of free will does not allow any forecast based on the so–called prior cause, but it allows the self–determined and the external forces. The fact is that the principles of ethics are products of human beings, and moral responsibility itself is not indistinguishable in different traditions and societies. Therefore, according to Libertarians The Ideas of Free Will and Responsibility in Buddhist Ethics, " if human beings are controlled by prior causes as a mechanistic system, then human behaviors can be predicted with the same degree of certainty", however, human behavior is in fact non–mechanistic and exists in a biological system. With this being said, human beings acquire free will. Thus, human existence, in the ethical sense, is controlled not by external surroundings or by any prior foundation, but by the inner free will of each individual. The fact that Socrates sought an authentic knowledge rather than a simple triumph over an opponent, he used the same logical actions developed by the Sophists to a new intention, the pursuit of truth. Even after Socrates has been convicted by the jury, he refuses to dispose of his pursuit of the truth in all matters. Refusing to escape from Athens, he continues that public argument of the matters of life and virtue is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is teamwork that remains the ultimate competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful and so rare. A friend of mine, the founder of a company that grew to a billion dollars in annual revenue, best expressed the power of teamwork when he once told me, "If you could get all the people in an organization rowing in the same direction, you could dominate any industry, in any market, against any competition, at any time." Whenever I repeat that adage to a group of leaders, they immediately nod their heads, but in a desperate sort of way. They seem to grasp the truth of it while simultaneously surrendering to the impossibility of actually making it happen. And that is where the rarity of teamwork comes into play. For all the attention that it has received over the years from scholars, coaches, teachers, and the media, teamwork is as elusive as it has ever been within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, two men out of these many great Presidents, holds a place in American history as perhaps the some of the greatest leaders this country has ever had. During this time there were are two extraordinary smart and educated men that represented both the dreams and aspirations of the American people during such a uproarious time in United States history. Both of these men held leadership qualities that no one could rival. They had strong views for America, and held anomalous ideas on foreign policy. These gentlemen were Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. When President William ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wilson continued with a couple of TR's reforms. For example, the income tax to support the people, and the federal reserve. During his term the prohibition of drinking and selling alcohol was happening and act for women's right to vote was underway. Wilson father was also minister. One of the mary aspects of Wilson was that he appeared to have a dangerous messiah complex where he thought he could save the world. He was convinced by the idea that he himself, and no one else was able to enter the whole world into a new age of total peace. However, as a war leader he was superb, in a way. He got the American people to believe they would fight a war to make the world safe for democracy and forever peaceful. Out of Wilson's idealism came his fourteen points, which he presented to Congress in January of 1918. This appealed to people everywhere by promising such objectives as ending secret treaties, freedom of the seas, and removing economic barriers. His fourteenth point was the League of Nations, which was rejected by the Senate. He did however get the Treaty of Versailles accomplished during his term in June of 1919. Having that said the treaty only included about four of the original fourteen points. Wilson was a man of peace without victory, who many argued tried to keep us out of war. Michael Parenti, the author of the essay "Class and Virtue,", argued that society's morals and virtues mainly belong to people who have the appearances and behaviors of the upper class. In 1865, Bram Stoker composed Dracula, during a time when patriarchal society began to become vulnerable for women among the middle class. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen by Alan Moore, a graphic novel written in 1999, depicts the change in women's roles and social positions, which are important to note since they take place after the events in Dracula. Both authors show how class is a social hierarchy and can result in a loss or gain of power. Although Stoker and Moore use different mediums, both authors showcase the influences of class has on the power of speech and mental health; speech gives credibility to the upper class while mental health ... Most of the journal entries and diaries in the novel include documentation from characters that are middle to upper class. For example in Lucy Westerina's Letter to Mina Murray states, "Mina, we have told all our secrets to each other since we were children; we have slept together and eaten together, and laughed and cried together; and now though I have spoken, I would like to speak more" ( Stoker 57). Lucy's speech in the letter reveals an eloquent dialect and shows sophistication of her writing. Her eloquent speech is very persuasive and presents gracefulness when describing Mina and her friendship. This reveals that Lucy's upper class status plays an important role to her proper speech; therefore, her class status and proper speech give her the power to be heard first–hand, which is indicated by a multitude of her letters within the ... Bill Bojangles Robinson Bill "Bojangles" Robinson Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, who claimed he could run backward faster than most men could go forward, was the most famous of all African American tap dancers in the twentieth century. Dancing upright and swinging, his light and exacting footwork brought tap "up on its toes" from an earlier flat–footed shuffling style, and developed the art of tap dancing to a delicate perfection. Born Luther Robinson in Richmond, Virginia, his parents, Maria and Maxwell Robinson, died in 1885. Young Bill was reared by his grandmother, Bedilia Robinson, who had been a slave. In fact, he appears to have been a remarkably generous man and in addition to his massive workload, he never refused to appear at a benefit for those artists who were less successful or ailing. It has been estimated that in one year he appeared in a staggering 400 benefits. In 1930 Robinson had made a film, DIXIANA, but it was not until he went to Hollywood in the middle of the decade that he made a breakthrough in this medium. He danced in a string of popular films, including some with Shirley Temple. By 1937 Robinson was earning $6,600 a week for his films, a strikingly high sum for a black entertainer in Hollywood at the time. • 7. Steampunk Novels Technology and fears of the time are two of the many themes seen in Steampunk novels. In Victorian novels such as H.G. Wells The Time Machine, technology and advancement are viewed as the glue that keeps a civilized society together. However, in more modern works, such as the graphic novel The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Volume 1 by Alen Moore and Kevin O'Neil, technological advancement is feared. Society is now more concerned with human abuse of technology, specifically technology that causes harm to others. Through comparison of these works, one can see how the concerns of a society effects the works of their time, or, perhaps, how the works of their time affect the fears of society. Another way that Wells represents this in The Time Machine is when the Time Machine is taken. After the Time Machine is taken, the Time Traveler finds himself trapped in the future, a place that is foreign to him. This can be seen as a parallel between the novel and society at the time. Technology has become a part of their lives, and without it, their lives would not be the same as before. In many way, they could feel that they are trapped in degenerate society without it, just as the Time Traveler feels when he no longer has access to the Time Machine. How society degraded in The Time Machine can be seen from this quote: "I saw an inscription in some unknown character. I thought, rather foolishly, that Weena might help me to interpret this, but I only learned that the bare idea of writing had never entered her head." He was very curious and willing to learn. In 1866, ships around the world were being attacked by an enormous thing, faster and larger than a whale. These men were using something to float on in the water, and soon realized it was a submarine. Then, men with masks pulled them aboard. Traditional gothic fiction was at the height of its popularity during the Victorian era, it exploded in the 1790's and continued its reign well into the 1800's. This confrontational style of fiction often blurs the lines of realistic and artificial, forcing readers to challenge their beliefs and surpass the norm. However, the aspect of gothic fiction that was most attractive to the Victorian audience was the way human fears and societal tensions were reflected in the deliberately fictionalised literary works. With power such the immortality these two characters experience comes greed and self–glorification. Gray's statement that he has "seen too much in life to... shock easily" is a demonstration of this narcissistic outlook. Rowling has further authenticated Wilde's Victorian text in her modern one by methodically paralleling many of the facets of the original character. The shared disfiguration of the characters physic because of their unnatural desire for immortality links both the past a present desires. Whilst Gary was "loathsome of visage," Voldemort was similarly "the most terrible face." Not only has Rowling used their physical devastation but she has also linked them through their shared use of an alter–ego style name. Gray's influence over Sybil lead to the guise of "Prince Charming" whilst to a more extreme (and modernised) complete change of name is the persona of "Lord Voldemort", both 'immortals' gave themselves unprecedented royal titles. After finding out that the League had been betrayed he didn't lash out; in fact he took that as an opportunity to prove himself as useful to the team. Although another reason for the novella causing such a sensation may have been it was simply an exciting read. This is because it is going beyond life as we know it, it shows us a drug that not only affects you mentally but physically too. This brings a sense of science fiction to the book. It tries to show us what would happen if we could go a stage further in science. Victorian England was a very dark time in history, rich people lived in big, 'posh' houses, whereas the less wealthy lived down back alleys in smaller untidy buildings. Middle class men in Victorian times were very 'good' they didn't go down to the pub for a 'booze up' they wouldn't talk about sex, instead they would come home when they had finished work to see their wives. This could be a reason why the novella caused such a sensation, because Hyde was evil, he trampled a little girl he committed murder and this was very unusual for someone like Henry Jekyll to want to do.
