2. Format:, Magazine
I am going to produce a new name of a new music magazine which specialises in classic music.
This would be in the form of a Front Cover and DPS (Double Page Spread) as part of a larger
promotional project for ‘Opera’ magazine. I chose classic music. This is because I think that classic
music is the world’s oldest genre of music, therefore I feel that it should keep on expanding and
more people should know and hear about it. Famous composers such as Beethoveen, Mozart,
Bakh, etc; are one of the most famous composers of all time and the symphonies they attributed
are very iconic and important. Classic music has a lot of benefits. Listening to classic music lowers
blood pressure, lowers stress, makes people smarter and provides a comfortable sleep. This is
what made me choose this genre to my music magazine so I can expand on it and let more
people from different age groups to read about it as well.
Working Title: e.g. My working title is ‘Opera’ although this might change.
Genre:
My music magazine would be specialising in classic music and it’d compete with BBC Music
magazine as I’m trying to get my magazine to be a market leader as there aren’t a lot of market
leaders in this genre.
Content:
The name of sub-genre entitled ‘Opera’ magazine will be full of pictures, articles,
interviews with famous classic music singer. The publication will also feature young
prospects in classic music which would grab the attention of the target audience as this is
not available in other magazine and specially the magazine I’m aiming to compete with
which is BBC music magazine.
The first issue of my magazine would contain an interview of a famous composer’s son
(Robert Schubert) telling us why he didn’t finish one of his famous symphonies. Therefore
the target audience of magazine would recognise the picture of the famous composer on
the front cover and this would encourage them to buy the copy.
Style or Approach:
I am going to use Photoshop to construct the magazine pages (Front Cover and DPS) because…
Some of the tools in Photoshop that will be particularly beneficial in constructing double page
spread will be the ruler tool in the Photoshop as it’ll help to align text the columns so it’d look
neat and tidy. The ruler would also help me in the front cover as it’d tell me what to do in each
area and help me to organise the space on the page.
The colour scheme I’m going to use across the pages of my music magazine is mainly pink. This is
because it has a mixture of red and white. Red represents passion of classic music and it relates
back to Opera as the theatre usually has red curtains and red seats in it. Red is also an attractive
colour that grabs the attention of the reader and therefore this would make them want to buy
the magazine. There’s also the red carpet which many famous upper class people walk on it in
famous festivals, Academy Awards, etc. This connotes that red is an attractive colour that is used
for big events. The other colours I’m going to use are black and white. Based on the research I
made, the magazine had a lot of black and white colour schemes in it to connote the genre of the
music which is classic. The white colour is a classic colour that is seen across music magazines. As
my music magazine is aimed at female, the colour pink also represents the femininity so it would
attract the females. Also, the colour black mixes with the white as they both shows the true
classic colours and they’re both the colours of the Tuxedo which is something worn to classic
music events which links back to the genre of my magazine.
The first issue of the front cover would be a famous composer on it and this is because it’ll grab
the attention of the target audience of my magazine as they’d recognise who the composer is and
so it’d be a good start for my music magazine as it’d get stuck to the head of the reader that the
front cover of my first issue is someone famous so they’d immediately would want to purchase it
and try and look out for other issues.
