2. My music magazine was
originally targeted to
males and females.
After looking and
working on my
magazine I realised
that the features,
house style, articles
and other parts in my
product didn’t
represent both males
and females. It only
represented females.
3. The housestyle represents a specific gender because
firstly it is pink, white and purple colours which
immediately shouts out that it is a magazine a
woman would read. The image on the front of the
magazine goes with the housestyle and because it is
of a young female artist, women may be more
inclined to buy the magazine than men would. The
gender that I am representing would change due to
the particular artist on the front cover and the
particular house style. If the artist was a male DJ and
wants to explain about his new album or tour etc,
then the housestyle would be more suited to males
and also some females. It would be more darker
colours, not pink as that is associated with girls.
4. The features in the magazine depends on what
the gender is represented. For example, if the
magazine has mainly women artists in it (like the
issue I have created) the magazine would be
more suited and targeted to women. Whereas if
the magazine has mainly male artist and DJ’s in
then males would be more likely to buy and read
the magazine. However I have included at least a
couple of features which are specifically
represented to either males or females because I
want my music magazine to be readable for both
sexes even if it is more representable to one
gender than the other.
5. The target audience that I chose for my music magazine was people
around 16-29. Therefore my music magazine was made to grab the
attentions of those ages by using fonts that are readable and will grab
their attention. However people who are older or younger can still read
the magazine. The content is for people who enjoy going out to
nightclubs, listening to electronic dance music, and dancing. Some of
this wouldn't be for people under the age of 18 as they wouldn't be able
to go out to night clubs, however those people may still want to read up
about the specific genre. They don't have the competitions, information
and articles are all to do with parties, night outs, new music and tours,
and for example, if people are older and don’t enjoy electronic dance
music as much they wont enjoy the magazine as much because the
content is all about the genre and the artists.
6. The class I have targeted with my music magazine is people who
have part time or full time jobs so middle class, this is because
electronic dance music is usually found in night clubs so therefore
my target audience would be going out for nights out listening to the
music and dancing. However, there is a variety of information and
content within the magazine that is suited to different classes such
as competitions for people who would like to get something they
may not be able to afford and also tour dates for people who have
the money to go and see different DJ’s around the country. The price
of the magazine is average so anyone could afford it and it is a
weekly magazine.
7. The ethnicity in my magazine would be
Caucasian because of the models in the
images. However anyone could read my
magazine. Other issues would contain many
different ethnicity groups and no specific
ethnicity would be targeted. The magazine
issue I have created does have Caucasian in
and the front cover image is of a Caucasian
but she is an artist who tours around the
world to different ethnicities and there isn’t a
specific representation of ethnicity.
