The Pros And Cons Of Elementary Education
As a college student that could be entering into the work force in the next four years, it is important
to learn what different vocations have to offer for you. It is important to understand the pros and
cons of the vocations you're really interested in. There are three vocations that really interest me for
my long–term degree. Those three vocations are public school elementary school teaching,
Children's Ministry, and Massage Therapy.
Let's first look at Public School Elementary Education. When studying Elementary Education, it's
important to understand whether it is a vocation that best fits you. There are several key things to
look at. First, what does being an elementary school teacher look like on a day to day basis. Then,
what are some of the best parts of Elementary Education. Next, what are the downsides public
school teaching. Followed by, what are the requirements to get into the profession. And Finally,
what are some of the top professionals in that field.
When researching the vocation of Elementary Education, I interviewed Heather Harrington. An
Elementary School teacher who has taught in the public schools for 22 years. Upon entering college
at Eastern Washington University, she was working towards a degree in physical therapy but found
after a year that it was not the path that had been set out for her, so she switched to Elementary
Education due to a recommendation by a friend and because Eastern Washington University had
such a strong program.

With this law, students are tested once while they are in high school. For this reason, states must
make every effort to ensure that all test are aligned to the college and career ready standards.
However, more changes in the law shifted position of the high stakes test. This simply means that
more factors will be used to determine accountability. Test scores will no longer be the only measure
that is used to determine funding for states and accountability for teachers. Thus, the revisions to
ESSA reduce the level of risk for schools and the worry concerning test and scores. Today, states
have been given the opportunity to design a more rigorous system for testing that focus solely on

Affective development plays a larger role in this because it encourages positive interaction between
children, but also teaches respect for the game, the rules, and the people who are involved in the
activity. By putting students together in a situation where they can relate to one another, a teacher
can push students to socialize, and feel welcome in their surroundings. If a student feels welcome by

Negative stereotypes such as that is what hurts males the most when trying to decide if they should

Homework has been a topic of conversation in elementary education for the majority of last decade,
the pros and cons have been argued and researched time and time again. While most professionals in
the field agree that homework is needed and helpful in middle and high school, when it comes to
younger grades the information strongly shows that it is a waste of time. At its core homework has
two possible effects in the home. Homework can be seen as a rule over parents from the school to
manage their children's time outside of school or as a way to inform parents on what their children
are currently and allow them participation in their children's education (Wright). Around the time
leading up to World War One the Ladies' Home Journal began advocating for an end to homework
for all children under the age of fifteen. The change continued in 1901 when California passed a law
abolishing all homework for grade levels one through eight. After the launch of Sputnik, a pro–
homework movement began calling for heavier student work loads in hopes to keep students up to
par with their russian counterparts. The movement was revised as researches in the late 1960's as
they observed the amount of stress put onto students by homework. American schools began
reporting falling test scores and lower overall performance of students in the 1980's, which lead to a

I was home on leave after serving 15 months in Iraq, spending time with my family and connecting
with people I haven't seen in a while. My mother arranged for me to speak to my brother's 3rd–grade
class since they had written letters to me while I was deployed. It was something I felt that I owed
since the letters were cheerful and really helped when I was over there. I was a bit nervous because I
have never done something like this before, public speaking was not a strong suit of mine. While
visiting with the students and answering questions I fell in love with being in the classroom. After
finishing my commitment to the military, I continued my education and got my degree in
Elementary Education. I am currently finishing up my 3rd year in teaching 2nd grade and love every
minute of it.
Critical thinking is something that should be taking place during every lesson. I engage my students
in this higher level order thinking by asking multi–level questions that may have more than one
answer. I also foster thoughtful discussions during out social learning lessons, such as encouraging
healthy debate. Being able to communicate and elaborate their thinking is important. Because I
teach at the primary level so sometimes in order to get students to engage in critical thinking, I have

The Elementary And Secondary Education Act
The The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), was revamped in 2001 as the No Child
Left Behind Act (NCLB). Due to the time period of the inception and now, there is a pressing need
for reform. Even when the law expired four years ago, Congress continued to update the out of date
NCLB Act was never seriously considered by the House Committee on Education and the
Workforce until now. Since the Republicans assumed control of the House of Representatives, they
have created and passed a series of reaffirmation bills out of the particular committee such as the
Empowering Parents through Quality Charter Schools Act, which passed through the House of
Representatives with a great bipartisan majority. This bill is part of the attempt to reform the
outmoded NCLB Act.
At inception, the NCLB Act was thought of as revolutionary, and in some ways it was. The larger
use of data helped superintendents, school boards, and teachers identify students that were in need
of additional instruction and offered parents a view of the quality of the schools. But, even with
these innovations, the NCLB Act had some weaknesses. The Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is a
"one–size–fits–all" standard that hampers states' and school districts' ability to appropriately gauge
the learning done by the students and to tailor the schools' curriculums to enable the students to
graduate high schools successfully prepared for any postsecondary education or the workforce. The

The Pros And Cons Of Elementary Education As a college student that could be entering into the work force in the next four years, it is important to learn what different vocations have to offer for you. It is important to understand the pros and cons of the vocations you're really interested in. There are three vocations that really interest me for my long–term degree. Those three vocations are public school elementary school teaching, Children's Ministry, and Massage Therapy. Let's first look at Public School Elementary Education. When studying Elementary Education, it's important to understand whether it is a vocation that best fits you. There are several key things to look at. First, what does being an elementary school teacher look like on a day to day basis. Then, what are some of the best parts of Elementary Education.
