Environmental Issues and the Importance of Connecting With...
Biology and Connecting With Nature
"Oh, what a catastrophe, what a maiming of love when it was made personal, merely personal
feeling. This is what is the matter with us: we are bleeding at the roots because we are cut off from
the earth and sun and stars. Love has become a grinning mockery because, poor blossom, we
plucked it from its stem on the Tree of Life and expected it to keep on blooming in our civilized
vase on the table." – D.H. Lawrence
Beyond any doubt, studies now confirm that due to the stress that is flowing out of our disconnected
"bleeding roots", complex personal, environmental and social problems are created. As humans we
have been inclined to look outside of ourselves –– at the polluted lakes and brown clouds ... Show

The fundamental problem, as David Wann writes in his book "Bio–Logic," is that our brains–– and
technologies–– are still evolving. Although we are part of nature, humans have decided to go their
own way, separated from the realities learned in Biology. Recently both the physics and chemistry
industry formed an alliance and over–looked the still–evolving field of biology. The result of the
coalition was runaway chemicals, disappearing species, and an afflicted Human population. It is
discouraging to see the violence and the hatred that is growing in the industrial society. The
destruction of the forests, wildlife, and oceans, results in using the remains of the land for a variety
of ends that are not at all related to the spirit of those places. The spirit of Nature that one grows
around. Our lives, along with the lives of the global community, are at risk. We are wounding the
earth and in return we are suffering with it. Some examples of the distruction that humans are
causing the earth and themselves are; hunting and killing endangered species, development of
nuclear weapons and thus nuclear waste, increase of the risk of cancer due to industrial chemicals in
the environment, and least but not last the Ozone depletion problem. These are only few examples
from an endless list.
People might think that this means we have to live like primitives. On the contrary, we do not

The Effects Of Fracking On The United States And Its...
Introduction With the proliferation of fracking in the United States and its impact on so many
different aspects of society from environmental to health and economic impact, it is an important
topic that demands more research and along with more community awareness. Another aspect of
fracking that is discussed much less than the environmental and public health aspects is that the
people that benefit most from the fracking industry usually white affluent individuals do not live in
the area that drilling process or waste disposal process happens (Johnston, J. j., Werder, E., &
Sebastian, D. (2016). It is also important to keep in mind how the elites of society are able to mold
and manipulate public opinion to suit their needs (Davis, C., & Fisk, J. M. (2014). It has been shown
how persistent opinions from elites and media messages can sway public opinion in whichever
direction they choose (Davis, C., & Fisk, J. M. (2014). This paper demonstrates how the fracking
industry not only poisons the environment it poisons communities through creating conflict and
negative public health issues.
Methods In their research review Charles Davis and Jonathan Fisk (2014) set out to examine public
attitudes about the fracking industry, they based their findings on analysis of survey data of 2400
American adults. In their paper Shale Gas Wastewater Management Under Uncertainty Xiaodong

Environmental Issues Of Air Pollution
Environmental Issues
A. Introduction
Every day, the average person inhales about 20,000 liters of air. Every time we breathe, we risk
inhaling dangerous chemicals that have found their way into the air. We as humans depend on the air
around us to live, without it we would die. We rely on this as an essential source for living.
Air pollution includes all contaminants found in the atmosphere. It is another major problem that is
yet to be solved. These dangerous substances can be either in the form of gases or particles. The air
is 99.9% nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor, and inert gases.
Air pollution is a common term meaning the dirtying and gradual destruction of our natural
resources, especially our air, water and land. This is referred to as environmental pollution. Once,
years ago, the air was fresh and clear and the rivers were clean with fish swimming in the crystal
clear waters and streams. This is no longer true today.
Air pollution is the dirtying of the air. Where once we had blue skies and fresh air to breathe in, this
is no longer the case. The air today is choked with toxic fumes from cars and factories. With more
and more cars on the road, the carbon monoxide emitted from the car exhausts has polluted the
Earth's atmosphere. The clearing of land to make way for housing or farms has also lead to forests
being destroyed and burnt.
But did you know that air pollution also found both outdoors and indoors? It can, Pollutants can be
trapped inside buildings,

Environmental Issues Of Environmental Justice
Environmental justice is a term coined in the United States that usually deals with two different
things. One is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color,
national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of
environmental laws, regulations, and policies. The other is a mixed body of social science literature
pertaining to anything from environmental laws to political ecology. Primarily based around the
concept of injustices carried out by energy companies, environmental injustice is still a rampant
problem in todays wide variety of social justice issues. While the prior two meanings mentioned are
the main ones, some other definitions include equitable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are seen as environmental discrimination because the companies are placing possibly toxic
facilities in these specific areas where the residents do not often have the means to fight back against
them.
Due to the results of that study, waste dumps and waste incinerators have been the target of
environmental justice lawsuits and protests. Several of the most popular Environmental Justice
lawsuits are based off of violations of civil rights laws. The first instance to use civil rights as a way
to challenge the placement of a waste–management facility was in 1979.
The Northeast Community Action Group, or NECAG, was created by African American residents in
a middle–class neighborhood in order to keep a landfill out of their home town. This group is
recognized as the first organization that found the connection between race and pollution. The
group, alongside their attorney Linda McKeever Bullard started the lawsuit Bean v. Southwestern
Waste Management, Inc., which was the first of its kind to challenge the sitting of a waste facility
under civil rights law. The Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, which was used
many times to defend minority rights during the 1960s, has also been used in numerous
Environmental Justice cases.
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is sometimes used in lawsuits that are fighting
environmental inequality. Section 601 prohibits

Hawaii Environmental Issues
The entire world is experiencing climate change and a vast array of environmental problems. Hawaii
itself is suffering from its own issues: the decline of native species, ocean pollution, the erosion of
waterways, and more. None of these problems can be solved in a single sweeping gesture. Only
through many small efforts, with many people, can we solve the issues we now face, both in Hawaii
and the world as a whole.
However, while many small efforts are necessary, large changes can be accomplished when
individuals have the intent, knowledge, skills, and credentials to initiate, plan, and carry out projects
designed to solve these issues. Environmental Studies would prepare me to be one of those people.
After completing my degree I will be able to participate in efforts to solve many of the
environmental problems Hawaii now faces.
Hawaii has more reason than most places to seek to protect and care for its natural environment.

There are many different capacities I can accomplish this through, however: as an environmental
planner, an analyst, a policy–maker, a speaker, and in many other ways as well. I cannot promise
any specific career or project or goal, because it is impossible to predict what the focus of
environmental efforts will be in four years, how much scientific progress we will make between
now and then, what jobs will be available, and many other factors that may influence both what I am
able to do, and what I can do to have the greatest positive effect. The details of my plan are flexible.
My intent is not, however. I intend to help the people and the land through any capacity that I can to
ensure a bright and healthy future for our island and our world. That is what I offer to Hawaii: my
intent to create a healthier aina for the benefit of the land and the people, and to create a brighter

Environmental Issues In The Environment
There are many environmental issues that are affecting our planet which include air and water
pollution, devastation of oceans and forests, population growth, weakening of the ozone layer, and
global climate change. These environmental problems are becoming more and more of a concern to
political scientists and it will take cooperation from all states to resolve the issues. There are
different perspectives regarding environmental issues and how to address them; liberal,
constructivist, and realist.
Air pollution is due to industrialization. Since countries began to industrialize, the air has been filled
with pollutants from car exhausts, energy production, and factories. Air pollution causes major
health problems such as respiratory infections, heart disease, lung disease such as asthma, and even
cancer. Water pollution causes a shortage of drinking water and it is a sanitation problem. Water
pollution goes hand in hand with the destruction of oceans because we pollute the ocean with trash,
ship pollution, and oil spills. The destruction of the oceans also involves overfishing. Population
growth is one of the bigger environmental problems because it expands the other issues. Population
growth increases strain on the environment because we need more resources like food, clean water,
and clean air, which causes an overall resource reduction. Weakening of the ozone increases the
ultraviolet light that comes through which causes skin cancer, it can affect crops, and it aids

Greed And Consumerism
"Greed (for the lack of a better word) is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts
through and captures the essence of evolutionary spirit". Gordan Gekko from 'Wall Street' says that
whilst greed is good, our environment conjectures otherwise. The rise of greed and modern human
culture has helped facilitate aspects of consumerism by creating a desperation for more. More
friends, more food, more clothes, more money, more dreams. Entirely based around the concept of
lust, selfishness and envy, consumerism helps appeal to the mass's most primal desires, exchanging
a person's rationality for emotional investment. Experts now aver that all of human history has come
down to one coherent fact; our only purpose is to consume ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
At this present moment, the standard of consumption had dramatically increased at an
unprecedented rate, to the point where sources have zero time to replenish in order to coincide with
the rate of consumption. It is predicated that in order to sustain a single Western's lifestyle, 4–6
hectares of land is need per person.
Thinking back to other environmental issues, consumerism is at the cornerstone of approximately
60–80% of all environmental impacts experienced today. We have water scarcity because of the
overuse of clean drinking water in western societies and pollution levels in aquatic environments,
we have fast fashion because westerners want unethically–made and poorer quality clothing articles
made at a faster rate than ever before, and deforestation? You guessed it, because we want our land
to undergo urbanisation so that we can make more goods to consume and to live out the American
dream. And for what? The latest and greatest? Or So that we can feel a sense of superiority over
others?
This looming consumer demand has been the originator of multiple ecological imbalances that can
be seen around the world. Consumerism is heavily linked with environmental degradation. A
process where high levels of consumption and production require larger inputs of energy and
therefore increasing the quantity of waste products. This means that there will come a time when the
earth can not support it's own functioning. A

1970 Environmental Issues
The Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1970 to help provide solutions to the
environmental issues and problems that need to be addressed. The name of the agency tells us that
they are here to protect the environment and hold those who would harm our earth responsible for
their actions. Unfortunately, the very agency that has been tasked with our protection has now
become the perpetrator of an environmental disaster in Colorado. Last week, the EPA accidently
dumped over three million gallons of toxic waste into Animus River (Kinkaid, 2015). It would
appear that the good guys in white hats have turned their hats in for a new color that bad guys are
associated with in the movies (black hats). The Fox news article by Kinkaid is an opinion ... Show

The amount of pollution that has spilled is three times more than was previously reported (Garrison,
2015). As of August 10th, the mine was still discharging 500 gallons a minute into the Animus
River. The EPA administrator Shaun McGrath has stated that the EPA has contained the rest of the
spill in two ponds near the spill site and they are treating it (Garrison, 2015). Another group of
people affected by the spill is the Navajo Nation, and the Navajo Nation commission has declared a
state of emergency. The Nation is 27,000 square miles and has been considered to be the size of
some of the smaller states like West Virginia. Navajo Nation president Russel Begaye has asked an
attorney to look into filing a lawsuit against the EPA (Garrison, 2015). Russel has also stated his
dissatisfaction with the EPA's handling of this disaster, along with not being clear about exactly
what toxins have been released into the river. The people of the Nation are concerned about the
water quality and how it will affect drinking water, cattle, and crops. The EPA seems to have made
quite a few mistakes in dealing with this spill; New Mexico's Governor Martinez says that she did
not even find out about the spill from the EPA. She received the information from tribal officials in
Southern Ute (Garrison,

The Impact Of Environmental Issues On The Environment
Throughout history, the environment around our society has played a large role and has had serious
implication on the very existence of humans. From war, peace migration, population growth,
disease, along with the rise and fall of many civilizations mother nature has been right along for the
ride through the prosperity and as well as the hardship. The environmental problems that occur have
been happening due to natural occurrences, but recently since the age of the Industrial Revolution
human activity has become a large factor in the increased problems that are present, and the
implications of our consequences are hurting not only the environment but also us in turn. The
major environmental issues cause by humans are loss in biodiversity, deforestation, ocean pollution,
water scarcity and climate change. The different environmental issues that are brought up with
human activity are intense and sometimes the effects are not seen immediately but they do have an
effect on the surrounding environment. First, I will elaborate one the different issues and explain
what they include. The first being Biodiversity, which is known as the "The variety of life, typically
expressed in terms of species richness." (Bolen 2010). This includes both biotic and abiotic factors
in the natural world that thrive. The second issue present is that of deforestation which is the action
of clearing an area of trees, which could range anywhere from a small piece of land to a large area.

Environmental Pollution : Social And Social Issues In The...
Throughout the years we as a society have considered the problems within our environment and the
social problems we face completely unrelated issues. Technological advances have recently shown
us that this is untrue, linked through human intervention our environmental and social issues have a
lot more in common than originally thought. The social and environmental issue of pollution is one
of the more pressing issues of our time. Our air, water and food supplies are all vulnerable to being
heavily polluted by our mishandling of our environment and natural resources. Whether as a
consequence of improper disposal or ignorance pollution has become one of our society's biggest
complications.
Air Pollution
There are many ways pollution can be introduce into our environment. Our air, water and earth are
all victims of many different pollutants.
The leading and the main pollutant on earth is carbon dioxide. When released in the air they
contaminate deadly gases like carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide. These gases then fall into the
water which leads to contamination of the hydrosphere. This pollutant is widely considered to be
associated with cars, planes, power plants and other human activities.Studies say 80% of lung
diseases in america are caused due to pollution from vehicles. People who breathe in these poisons
have higher risk for asthma and reproductive–system damage. According the the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency, birth defects can be caused by air pollution. A

A social impact in the extraction of raw materials is the effect that it would cause on the local
community. This would be good as the company should ensure that their supplier provide jobs for
the local community and it would then make the local community thrive as result making it a
positive effect and should be written in social reports to maximise the benefit and they should
promote their assistance of the local community. A social impact in the manufacturing stage of the
supply chain is child labour. The computers being made in developing countries often people are so
desperate resulting in children being exploited. They make these children work long hours for less
than minimum wage. This is highly unethical and the company should regulate their suppliers
rigorously ensuring that they hire employees of working age and provide them with fair pay. By
doing this the business would be socially responsible resulting in the increase in popularity of their
company resulting in higher dividends for shareholder and increase profit margins. An
environmental issue that can arise in manufacturing is the amount of carbon emission from the
factory. The company can minimise this by introducing greener energy supplies which would result
in the decrease of their carbon footprint thus resulting in the company being more environmentally
friendly.

The Impact Of Environmental Issues On The Environment
In today's society, the environment is constantly being poorly affected by humans and their actions.
Environmental issues are defined as problems that the planet's systems face due to humans not
treating the Earth properly. These issues can occur from simple actions such as someone throwing
their trash on the ground, people overpopulating an area, or even someone driving their car. The
importance of this essay is to address these many issues that the Earth is facing along with
explaining how we can put an end to these problems. The issues that the planet's systems are facing,
are social problems because humans are being negatively affected by them. Imus (2014), states
"Recent studies have linked pollution exposure to asthma, autism, heart disease, cancer,
schizophrenia, migraines, and more" (p. 1). Humans are polluting the Earth, which is killing our
environment and causing themselves to get sick as well. In our society, the Earth is being treated
very poorly. King (2013), states "1.9 billion tons of litter ends up in the ocean every year" (p. 1).
Whenever people throw trash on the ground, 80 percent of it is carried by runoff; meaning that the
trash is transported to the ocean by waterways. After the trash is transported into the ocean, sea
creatures are put in danger. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), "64 percent
of lakes and 30 percent of bay and estuarine areas are not clean enough for fishing and swimming"

Air Pollution And The Environment : The Environment And...
The environment has been in trouble for a long time. Americans have been dealing with air
pollution, overpopulation, natural resource depletion, pesticide, water pollution and public health
issues. These issues are causing environmental problems and had a negative effect on the
environment. Most of these crises started in the early 19th century. The government got involved
and started creating laws to protect the environment and the public.
Air Pollution is one of the issues of concern, as the Industry develop and grow, smoke was one of
the endures that American had to deal with, this was created from manufacturing jobs and to help
improve the living standards (Merchant, 120). By the 1920, where coal was used for domestic
heating, "people with rain barrels on their roofs found the water contaminated with soot; city trees
began dying" (Merchant, 120). Breathing in polluted air was causing human health issues
(Merchant, 120). "The smoke and soot irritated the nose, throat, and lungs, giving rise to, or
exacerbating a multitude of ailments ranging from the common cold to asthma, bronchitis,
pneumonia, black lung disease, tuberculosis, diphtheria, and typhoid fever" (Merchant, 120). The
poor people are mostly the ones that suffer from air pollution, they live and worked in the inner
cities where the disease was mostly active (Merchant, 120). Smoke was the number one pollution in
the towns where coal burning industries were located. Women was mostly very concerned because it

Asarco Environmental Issues
The ASARCO plant emitted smokestack and faced issues on air pollution violation. The community
members in the Dona Park did indeed had the right to raise their concerns on the potential effects
and impacts of the plant to the health of the resident. On the other note, the soil sampling in the
community since 1994 until 2011, found high levels of metals that were addressed by removal. The
situations clearly provide another strong ground for the community members in the Dona Park to
complain. Looking at these situations closely, the residents of the Dona Park had every right to
complain for environmental injustice. The soil contamination issues found after assessments were
addressed, but that could not separate the fact that the residents were indeed living in unsafe

The Negative Aspects Of Living In A Disposable Society
It is a fact that disposable society is beneficial to a country since it can lead to innovation which
improves living standard. Is it undoubtedly a curse to live in a disposable society? What are the
negative aspects of living in a disposable society? According to one author, "Throwing away... may
soon lead us to feel that marriages are throw–away items as well and...on a global scale countries"
(Slade 228). Perhaps it is a curse to live in a disposable society because of cost, environmental and
social problems. If people live in a disposable society, they will find it a curse because they will face
cost problems. In particular, individuals are unfortunate to live in a consumerist society since they
will have expenditure problems. First of all, people decrease their cell phone life cycle as they
replace their phone with a newer model. If individuals saw there is an advertiser about the newest
model with a newer design(better function) (bigger storage) which motivate people to replace it.

Environmental Justice Issue Of Environmental...
Introduction I propose to add the environmental justice issue of environmental discrimination into
the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. To do so, I will investigate specific issues and regulation
deficiencies that are negatively impacting the Great Lakes' reserves, and develop a plan of action on
your behalf. As you are aware, protecting the Great Lakes is critically important. It is not only the
largest source of freshwater in the United States but in the whole world. Indiana, Illinois, Michigan,
Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin border the Great Lakes, and all of those
states use it as a water source for a total of about 10 million people. Since the passing of the Clean
Water Act, industries like U.S. Steel Industry have been using the loopholes found in the bill to
further their profit, and as a side effect has caused damage to the water supply, disproportionately
affecting people in marginalized communities. By using these loopholes, the Great Lakes are
continually polluted, which causes appalling damage to the millions of people who use the water for
drinking and other water–centric necessities. Also, aging infrastructure causes leaking pipes,
corroding pipes that jeopardize the water systems, and failing sewage treatment plants. These
infrastructure problems not only disproportionate effect marginalized communities but all
communities suffer when the Great Lakes become polluted. Since there is already an initiative to

2.2. The World Bank
The World Bank is composed of five organizations run by member countries. It provides 'technical
and financial assistance' to developing countries. In connection with this, the bank has the objectives
of eradicating 'extreme poverty' by 2030. However, it has been pointed out that, the bank's
commitment towards environmental protection is not practical. This comment relates to the case at
hand, as the bank provided funds to the construction the lines transmitting power to neighbouring
countries; although, the project has been criticised for its human rights and environmental concerns.
This is an action which has been criticised from the view point of its 'safeguard policy' whereby the
bank should focus on infrastructure development and not in profit making given the government of
Ethiopia plans to export half of the power generated to Kenya. Moreover, the agenda of the
government of Ethiopia in exporting electric power, where only 26.56% of the population in the
country have access to electric power, should not have been supported by the World Bank. In
addition to this the bank's goal of eradicating extreme poverty is questionable where it is funding a
project in which nearly half a million people could be exposed to starvation.

Central and Eastern Europe Environmental Issues
Abstract Eastern Europe's environmental problems are not as simple as they may seem on the
surface. The environmental problems that face Eastern Europe are complicated by political,
economic, and social implications. The current environmental problems are a bi–product of rapid
industrial expansion under a socialist government. The soviet government was more concerned with
surpassing the western cultures in technology and military might than the environmental damage
they were doing to their country. The following paragraphs will address the current environmental
problems facing Eastern Europe, the various solutions to the environmental problems, and the

The good news is that there are viable solutions to the environmental problems that the Eastern
Europe countries are having.
Viable Environmental Solutions The environmental problems that face Central and Eastern Europe
are much the same as any other country in the world with one exception, the proximity of the
environmental hazards. Most countries in the world deal with environmental hazards, but the
hazards are spread out over different parts of the country. Central and Eastern Europe are unique
when it comes to environmental disasters because Central and Eastern Europe was the industrial
might behind the soviet military. For every environmental disaster Central and Eastern Europe faces,
there is a viable solution thanks to modern technology and proven environmental regulations.
Possible environmental solutions Because of the vast environmental disasters throughout Central
and Eastern Europe there are several possible environmental solutions. The possible environmental
solutions that Central and Eastern Europe are considering will be decided by the cost of the solution,
ease of implementation, and consultation from environmental agencies such as the United States
Environmental Agency. Even with the various economic, governmental agency communication
problems, and various ecological disasters Central and Eastern Europe have a number of viable

the first time a nuclear emergency had been declared in Japan, and 140,000 residents within 20 km

Environmental Issues
Introduction
The sustainability of the planet has become an issue of contention in the recent past due to numerous
environmental issues. Human activities have brought about various climate changes that may bring
about the extinction of the human race on earth. Issues such as climate change, recycling, sewage,
ozone, pollution have all been addressed in the Kyoto protocol, but the proposed solution in this
protocol have not been fully implemented by the countries across the globe. The world has changed
due to the environmental issues that affect us in a negative manner. It is important to keep in mind
that various steps have been taken so as to address the environmental issues and to bring about
favorable conditions as a result of the human activities. Secondly, there are bound to be
disagreements and disputes in the measures that will be adopted when responding to these
environmental issues. The aim of this paper is to discuss the environmental issues by determining
their consequences to the sustainability of the planet. Some of the topics discussed in this paper
include climate change, recycling, sewage, ozone, pollution and the Kyoto protocol just to name but

Environmental Issues
William Sanford, popularly known as Bill Nye the Science Guy stated, "Climate change is
happening, humans are causing it, and I think this is perhaps the most serious environmental issue
facing us" (Nye, n.d.). Although this statement proves to be accurate, often times it is not realized
that the harm caused to the environment by humans in turn present a health risk to the community.
The state of Washington continues to face environmental issues that ... Show more content on

Urbanization also causes a respiratory health concern due to an increase in industrial activity. Water
and air pollution closely relate to the result of urbanization. It is noted that the majority of things
that are byproducts of human civilization cause pollution to water and air. The major causes of water
pollution in this area is toxic chemicals entering the waterways on a regular basis.
"Ecology currently estimates that Puget Sound receives millions of pounds of toxic chemicals every
year from surface runoff, groundwater discharges, and municipal and wastewater outfall pipes.
These contaminates include oil and grease, PCBs, and phthalates as well as toxic heavy metals such
as copper, lead, and zinc. These toxins concentrate in urban bays and enter the food chain"
(Department of Ecology (n.d.)).
This plays a major factor in health risk for individuals of the community. When chemical pollutants
enter waterways, and contaminate fish, the human consumption could be tragic. Health conditions
that may arise from toxic waste in water may include organ failure or possible death. Closely related
to the urbanization of Washington is air pollution. With the industrial growth of the community,
harmful emission plague the environment from sulfur dioxide emission to the common vehicle
emissions. Air pollutants pose a serious respiratory health issue that can cause aggravated
cardiovascular and respiratory illness. Major causes of the

Global Environmental Issues
Environmental issues are a major problem in our world, and all people need to recognize the need
for our social obligations. The effect of humans on our planet has increased significantly over the
years. Not only is the population constantly growing, there is "new technical power to dig deeper,
cut faster, build larger, and traverse more quickly great distances in automobiles, trucks, and planes"
(Brown, 2001). Severe environmental issues have appeared throughout the world as a result. It is
very important that environmentalists work to educate everyone so that they can learn how to make
the most effective ethical decisions in order to preserve nature. There are ethical and social
obligations that the world needs to consider when it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The increased population helps to increase the amount of greenhouse gases, but it mainly
contributes to the consumption of our world's natural resources. The more advanced countries like
the United States use so many resources. Our people waste so much more than they help to
conserve. "Energy security is a growing concern for rich and emerging nations alike. The past drive
for fossil fuel energy has led to wars, overthrow of democratically elected leaders, and puppet
governments and dictatorships." There are many concerns and fears which include oil and other
fossil fuel depletion, reliance on foreign sources of energy, energy demands rising from advancing
developing countries such as China and India, economic efficiency versus population growth debate,
and renewable and other alternative energy sources. (Shah, 2009). Many people are scared that we
are wasting too much of our fossil fuels. They think that if we keep going at our current rate, we will
quickly use up all of our fossil fuels. People need to try to consider all of the facts so that we can
make good ethical decisions. It would be very wise to invest in alternatives to fossil fuels. In the
present and future, we need to work on preserving as much as we possibly can. Currently, we are
trying to find alternative fuel sources instead of using all of our oil. That is just one example of
ethical decisions that we are committing to. If everyone was informed about all of the dangers so

Essay on Media Portray of Environmental Issues
The way that media has portrayed environmental issues has changed radically in the past few years.
Environmental issues often aren`t considered newsworthy unless something large scale occurs with
a notable impact on everyday life. The BP oil spill in 2010 made front pages world wide, there was a
sudden push for the rescue of marine life and a general disgust for the condition of the Gulf Coast.
An outpouring of awareness came of this tragedy and mass media diligently informed audiences of
every detail as the following cleanup events unfolded. Most environmental news is not front–page
material. The media gets the ultimate say in what is deemed as important.
The typical newspaper reader does no read every single article, but rather skims ... Show more

Media draws from various sources to gather facts and assemble stories for their readership. When a
story comes out about a new scientific discovery or an impending extinction of a species, the source
must be considered. In a paper by Jeremy Corbett entitled "Testing Public Uncertainty of Science"
he discusses how newspapers especially just don't have the manpower to go straight to the scientific
source. Media often rely on information sourced from governmental and private entities rather than
cutting edge scientific information. This allows them to provide information that is easily
understood and likely widely accepted. Corbett gives the example of a magazine that cites scientific
reports but changes their story constantly: cell phones cause cancer, no they don`t, then months later
they are back to the initial assumption.
Awareness does not necessarily lead to change. Just because an environmental issue is brought to
light doesn't mean its going to pull at everyone's` heart strings and convince them to act. News
affects everyone a little differently and some indicating factors include education level and interest
in local, national, and international news. (Schafer, 2010, pp. 11–65) A survey cited in an article by
Fredrick Saunders showed that in 2011, 70 percent of people who follow international news say that
global warming is a serious threat, compared to 35 percent of those surveyed who do not

James E. Murray in the 86th Congress. That bill would have established an environmental advisory

preparation of an annual environmental report. In the years following the introduction of Senator
Murray's bill, similar bills were introduced and hearings were held to discuss the state of the
environment and Congress's potential responses to perceived problems. In 1968, a joint House–
Senate colloquium was convened by the chairmen of the Senate Committee on Interior and
Insular Affairs and the House Committee on Science and Astronautics to discuss the need for and
potential means of implementing a national environmental policy. In the colloquium, some Members
of Congress expressed a continuing concern over federal agency actions affecting the environment.

Land Degradation In Turkey Essay
In the past decades Turkey, like many neighboring countries, has faced a growth in population and
an expediential rise in migration from rural areas to urban cities. This rapid rise of population in
urban areas has brought with it a fear of environmental degradation and rise in risk exposure. The
government of Turkey has taken steps in order to lessen impacts on the environment by placing the
"environmental law" and the creation of National Ministry of Environment created in 1991(EIA,
2010). However land degradation in Turkey is not solely due to population growth or human
behavior in that matter. Due to its geographic positioning the country has an extreme climate that

Acording to the report produced by Univeristy of Gothenburg the most significant form of land
degradation in turkey is erosion, 73% of agriculture land is prone to erosion and during the last
decade over 16,000ha has been lost mainly of the 17% prime agriculture land. Though 86% of
turkey's overall land is somewhat effected by erosion not all the damages are caused by human
activities.
According to the Industry of Public Health in Turkey, even though floods accure more often than
landslides; it is the landslides that cause the greatest amount of damages to the structure and
property loss in turkey. According to the 2012 World Report it has been –––– that the erosion of land
causes more landslides as does deforestation lead to more severe floods; thus it is easy to pinpoint
effects of land degradation in disasters and risk exposure. Another cause of risk explosion due to
land degradation is deforestation, exposing the country to more floods; also decrease of biodiversity
due to rapid urbanization which according to World Risk Report can "affect the coping capability of
a country during a disaster" (World Risk Report, 2012).

Environmental Ngos And Global Environmental Issues
How environmental NGOs use the media to shape global environmental issues Even though there
have been greatly public concerns about environmental issues since 1960s, practical action as the
solution seems to be useless due to the limitation of state and pressure from the corporation.
Moreover, the function of international organizations has also faced with difficulties in terms of
enforcement and regulation; therefore, there has been wide gap between actors responding to the
environmental issues. Environmental NGOs have adequately fulfilled this gap – owned multiple
instruments to reach their goals, for example, conducting the environmental–concerned researches,
lobbying in both domestic government and global governance and also TNCs, and more importantly
raising public awareness and collective action from below (McCormick 2005: 92). Environmental
NGOs, 'agent of change' works in all both levels; political sphere and civil society (Ford 2011:27).
At political level, environmental NGOs act as a pressure group and lobbyist to government and
TNCs. Another level is civil society in which environmental NGOs acts in domestic levels – within
the nation boundaries, and also in global level, consequently there is part of possibility of global
civil society in which people are not limited by nation boundary, but can share common value and
perform collective action as a global citizen (McCormick 2005: 93). In doing so, environmental
NGOs always politicize the issues by shaping global

Contemporary Photographers : Environmental Issues And...
In the preceding chapter, I demonstrated how contemporary photographers take advantage of
innovative ways to tell stories, alert the public about environmental issues and spark engagement.
This chapter furthers the discussion by exploring current trends in environmental activism ranging
from the modest to extreme opportunities for engagement beyond traditional media. Nowadays,
photographers, environmental advocates, and NGOs reorient public perceptions about
environmental issues through unique and creative experiences that have expanded to the web, and
lately to social media and emerging digital platforms. In the first part of the chapter, I focus on
coordinated efforts of photographers and environmentalists working to resolve problems affecting
the global community. The next section considers voices outside the mainstream also working to
make known the overwhelming issues facing planet Earth. Following this, I turn to partnerships
between environmentalists, NGOs, and celebrities that drive media and the public's attention to
environmental causes. The last part of the chapter considers a new trend of environmental activism
through art.

Environmental Issues and the Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution took pace from the 18th to 19th centuries. It was a period when rural areas
became industrial and urban. Before the Industrial Revolution, engineering was mainly done in
people's homes. They used hand tools and sometimes basic machines. Industrialization put an end to
that, using powered, advanced machinery, factories and mass production. This made engineering
much faster, easier and more efficient. It even increased the amount of factory–made goods, as well
as the variety of them. Industrialization improved the living conditions for people in the middle and
upper classes. The poor and working classes had to do the dangerous jobs, for a very low amount of
pay, while working in harmful conditions. So many people from the rural areas were moving to the
urban areas for work, that they couldn't keep up. This caused overpopulation. Homes were
overcrowded, and people were living in polluted and unsanitary conditions, which made them more
at risk of diseases. Pollution is one of the most environmentally negative impacts of the Industrial
Revolution. Air, water, and soil pollution were extremely bad during the Industrial Revolution.
Industrialization polluted the air, water and soils due to the waste products that factories generate.
Most factories and industries require water for their work. When water is involved in these
processes, it encounters metals, chemicals, and wastes, that will contaminate it. They are then
dumped into oceans and rivers. Doing so, kills fish and other sea animals, decreasing the population.
Farmers us this water to grow their crops. Using contaminated water then affects the quality of their
crops. When the farmers use the water in their soil, it can cause soil pollution. This pollution will
destroy plants if anything or anyone comes in contact with it, it can cause long–lasting health issues.
Air pollution can cause a variety of illnesses for people and the environment. With all of these
pollutions, there comes an increase in global warming. Global warming causes glaciers to melt,
extinction of animals, floods, tsunamis and hurricanes, which are some of the deadliest natural
phenomena. If any of these phenomena

Uncertainty Risk Trust And Information In Literature Review
The Article, "Uncertainty, Risk, Trust, and Information: Public Perceptions of Environmental Issues
and Willingness to Take Action" written by Reneé J. Johnson and Michael J. Scicchitano in its
current form is unfit for publication. Johnson and Scicchitano should be commended for identifying
a gap in our ability to accurately quantify the strength and intensity of environmental concerns. This
gap is certainly worthy of further study; however, their execution and attempt to quantify this
phenomena does not have the necessary wherewithal to close the gap in the literature as it stands.
The problems with their work begins almost immediately in the initial literature review. The

Further, the literature review suffers from an additional lack of clarity in the paragraph on the
bottom of page 634. Here, the authors begin to delve into the theory and rationalization behind
including uncertainty as an appropriate measure. The authors write, "Uncertainty can affect an
individuals willingness to act on environmental beliefs in several ways" signaling to the reader that a
laundry list of factors is to follow. However, they only make mention of one tangentially linked
evidence based factor, that an increase in the complexity of issues leads to increased uncertainty in
the scientific community. No further examples in support of uncertainty follow this one. Instead, the
authors pivot towards unfounded speculation about uncertainties role in individuals willingness to
take environmental action, and then they abruptly transition to their discussion of trust. The issue of
uncertainty persists in the manner with which the authors have chosen to operationalize their
research question. When operationalizing their research question the authors made several critical
clerical errors that could have impacted their results. In their discussion of uncertainty there is a lack
of clarity in the definition used which could cause confusion given the associated context in which
the measure is being used. The definition of uncertainty within the scientific community most
certainly differs from the

If the public noticed the issue in Flint earlier on the maybe one of the people that died due to the
Legionnaires' disease outbreak wouldn't have. If the public starts taking global warming seriously
maybe the future loss of life from superstorms will be prevented. Part of the reason why neither of
these issues are properly identified is that by looking at both of these images, it is clear that people
struggle acknowledging issues that aren't directly affecting them in that moment of time. Part of the
reason why so few people spoke up in regards to the Flint water crisis was that only the people in
Flint were being affected. This same idea can be seen with the issue of global warming. The effects
of global warming won't become noticeable to the human population until it may be irreversible.
However, due to the fact that not everyone can feel the effects of these issues they are often ignored.
But why do we ignore issues that don't directly affect us? It is partially due to fear. In Flint, the
water crisis is also an issue of underlying socioeconomic tension. No one wants to believe that after
our nation's long horrifying issue of racial tension, that it still exists. As for global warming, no one
wants to believe that the population as a whole may be having detrimental effects on our
environment. Due to the fact the these issues don't directly affect everyone, we can pretend like the
issues aren't as bad as they are. In order to overcome this fear that is frequently associated with
pressing issues, the public must feel more obligated to take action. The illustrators tried to assist

We'Re Hot as Hell
We're Hot as Hell
Is global warming a moral dilemma? Is it the public policy problem from hell? In "The
Environmental Issue from Hell," Bill McKibben uses many of such phrases en route to arguing for a
new approach to global warming. By discussing hell and morals, the reader's mind is already
equating it with two heavily debated issues. Therefore, we begin to question their existence and how
we should deal with the subjects. McKibben wisely chooses these disputes to represent his main
concerns: the ways in which consumerism affects the global ecosystem, and the impact of humans
on the environment. McKibben presents a solution on how to handle each of these environmental
issues, utilizing both the people and the government.

Mckibben inaugurates his third paragraph suggesting that we make the environmental issues, ""the
great moral crisis of our time, and the equivalent of the civil rights movement of the 1960s."(747).
He uses this analogy to explain that in his opinion, we are strip–mining the present and destroying
all of whom come after it. Thus, leading him to discuss exactly how humans' materialistic ways have
impacted the earth. From Bangladesh living three months in thigh high–deep water, to polar bears
becoming "20% scrawnier than they were a decade ago" (748). The environmentalist writer goes on
to discuss how to deal with global warming since it is indeed creeping up on us.
Mckibben once again articulates his repetitive view that, "it's a moral question, finally, if you think
we owe any debt to the future." (748). In many circumstances it is believed that if it had been done
to us, we would dislike the generation that did it, just as how we will one day be disliked. The
solution given in the essay on how to handle these environmental issues is to start a moral campaign.
In other words, "... turn it into a political issue, just as bus boycotts began to make public the issue
of race, forcing the system to respond. " (748). As a part of the overall populist causing these issues,
Mckibben understands that the hardest part about starting this moral campaign is identifying a
villain to overcome. Briefly

The Paucity of Water and its Effect on Gender Inequality in India
Based on a research survey conducted by the United Nations it reveals that, "convenient access to
water and sanitation facilities increase privacy and reduce risk to women and girls of sexual
harassment ..." (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, 2005). Women living
at the beginning and middle points of the village have to trek for a considerable distance to reach the
stream, when compared to those who live at the bottom of the village near the stream. Women are
the primary stakeholders in the fight for clean water as sources such as many rivers and wells are
contaminated as they bear the burden and lack the freedoms that are necessary to ensure equality not
inequality. Women in India have limited access to resources and the ability to express in the public
sphere, which creates division of bearing the burden of responsibilities in the fight against the
shortage of water. In many rural areas in India, women have to walk a distance of about 2.5
kilometers to reach up to the source of water. Women reach home carrying heavy pots, not to rest
but to do other household chores of cooking, cleaning, caring of children and looking after livestock,
and in the evening fetching water. Thus, a rural woman's life has become sheer drudgery for lack of
water. There are many key causes of the water crisis that are due to: a rapid growth

Fracking Environmental Issues
Considering my major is environmental studies I have chosen to focus this week's journal entry on
threatening environmental issues. My first issue surrounds the water crisis in California and the
second I'll be focusing on the controversial issue of fracking.
The drought in California has presented some controversial and difficult issues for the residents of
the state. Due to the lack of rain and fresh water the state has began, with no regulation, pumping
irreplaceable groundwater to aid the drought. This is an out of sight crisis considering it is invisible

Fracking is also referred as hydraulic fracturing in which rock is fractured by a pressurized liquid to
further create cracks and openings underground to extract more free flowing components such as
natural gas, petroleum, and brine. Millions of 'frac' jobs have been performed on oil and gas wells
worldwide to further extract more shale gas, tight gas, tight oil and coral seam gas. This highly
controversial issue of greed and depletion of deeply bounded fossil fuels is extremely important. The
argumentative basis of this matter is between those whom benefit and have more readily available
accessible hydrocarbons and the people who are aware of the potential hazardous environmental
effects. Hydraulic fracturing greatly threatens the risk of ground and surface water contamination,
air pollution, noise pollution, and the consequential triggering of earth quakes and hazardous long–
term effects that are unknown. This is highly controversial considering the industry that is already in
power of fossil fuel extraction is highly powerful and ran by both government powers and mass
corporate powers with much control on those who regulate. I am on the opposing side of the fossil
greedy powerful organizations who push for fracking and believe that there are surely alternative
solutions. I am personally interested in the issue of fracking because I know how important and vital
clean ground and surface water are for human survival and also because I am terrified of the
technology mankind has came to power over that in which threatens and potentially could trigger
disasters that we have no control over such as earthquakes and sinking of the land. There are many
issues amongst my major that I cold have focused on but I believe in this current day the largest
problems surround the ever so greedy and extreme measures mankind will take to have power over

Sustainability, which is the definition of "the process of using, conserving and enhancing a

EastLink's long–term goal is to provide a fast, lasting alternative for drivers to commute between
eastern suburbs. For a project that had a final total cost of $2.5B, sustainability, that is ensuring that
its relevance and usefulness to the society today and for the foreseeable future is a pivotal part of
EastLink. Permanent projects that demand large commitment and resources are the ones that need to

Two significant decisions that have affected the EastLink project are firstly, the decision to develop
EastLink as a tollway and secondly, an environmental issue involving potential damage that would
be caused to the nearby Mullum Mullum Valley.
EastLink was a multibillion–dollar project, and its funding stemmed primarily from the Federal
government, however as the project progressed, the Victorian Government switched to the stance
that the EastLink project was no longer viable as a toll free road which subsequently led to the
termination of the partial Federal government funding for EastLink. The Federal government's
reasoning being that it would only provide support and funding for projects that were toll free, hence
the Victorian Government's initial promise. The Victorian Government's decision to have EastLink
be a tolled motorway is one influenced by the operating and development costs of such a large civil
project and is largely motivated by the financial return of such a project. These concerns were later
shown as EastLink made a loss of nearly $93M in its first six months of operation, the largest reason
being that being a tolled motorway, it would not attract as many motorists than it would've being a
toll free road.
The second decision arose over the planning of the layout of EastLink, namely over the extent of
environmental damage that would be caused

Environmental Issues
One of the greatest things which is being talked about presently is the growing concerns of
scientists, environmentalists, and people of this planet when it comes to environmental issues.
Environmental issues is something that is discussed frequently in the news, in politics, and in
classrooms around the world. More and more we are becoming informed and aware of the current
and ever facing environmental crises that are taking place around the world today. Some scientists
and environmentalists believe that many things within our lives daily contribute to the growing
detriment of the environment. This paper will examine the concept of the biosphere, the differing
viewpoints of environmental optimists and environmental pessimists regarding the growing
environmental issues, and the ways in which we can work to preserve our environment and solutions
to environmental issues. As discussed in the text International Politics on the World Stage one of the
main environmental goals currently is to sustain and preserve our biosphere. The biosphere is the
global sum of all of our ecosystems on the area of earth that is occupied by living things and able to
support life. It contains the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere of the planet. The biosphere
consists of the land that we live on, the water that we use, and the air that we breathe. The biosphere

the area. It became stressful for everyone that was involved. Others were having to pick up the slack
in work that this person did not understand. Even though no one was totally qualified, there were
others that did understand the area better than the person that was promoted. The next example that I
will write about is the management of some of the clinics in the system. The issue has been that no
one has managed the clinics long. Usually the management is let go due to poor outcome. People
that had been hired have always wanted to make drastic changes and expect to see results quickly.
Of course, it takes time and steps to see the results that new management expects to see. The last
example that I would like to discuss is the effects of software transitions. We are currently in the
middle of a software installation. In order for this to occur, many of the system employees have
changed over to the software implementation team. This means that many departments in the
hospital have been forced to hire new people. The new employees have struggled to understand the

assessment and subsequent cleanup or remediation of environmental issues at a brownfield"
(Carr, et. al., 2008, p. 77). It is required that an Environmental site assessment or ESA is completed

Environmental Issues And The Importance Of Connecting With...

  • 1. Environmental Issues and the Importance of Connecting With... Biology and Connecting With Nature "Oh, what a catastrophe, what a maiming of love when it was made personal, merely personal feeling. This is what is the matter with us: we are bleeding at the roots because we are cut off from the earth and sun and stars. Love has become a grinning mockery because, poor blossom, we plucked it from its stem on the Tree of Life and expected it to keep on blooming in our civilized vase on the table." – D.H. Lawrence Beyond any doubt, studies now confirm that due to the stress that is flowing out of our disconnected "bleeding roots", complex personal, environmental and social problems are created. As humans we have been inclined to look outside of ourselves –– at the polluted lakes and brown clouds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fundamental problem, as David Wann writes in his book "Bio–Logic," is that our brains–– and technologies–– are still evolving. Although we are part of nature, humans have decided to go their own way, separated from the realities learned in Biology. Recently both the physics and chemistry industry formed an alliance and over–looked the still–evolving field of biology. The result of the coalition was runaway chemicals, disappearing species, and an afflicted Human population. It is discouraging to see the violence and the hatred that is growing in the industrial society. The destruction of the forests, wildlife, and oceans, results in using the remains of the land for a variety of ends that are not at all related to the spirit of those places. The spirit of Nature that one grows around. Our lives, along with the lives of the global community, are at risk. We are wounding the earth and in return we are suffering with it. Some examples of the distruction that humans are causing the earth and themselves are; hunting and killing endangered species, development of nuclear weapons and thus nuclear waste, increase of the risk of cancer due to industrial chemicals in the environment, and least but not last the Ozone depletion problem. These are only few examples from an endless list. People might think that this means we have to live like primitives. On the contrary, we do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Effects Of Fracking On The United States And Its... Introduction With the proliferation of fracking in the United States and its impact on so many different aspects of society from environmental to health and economic impact, it is an important topic that demands more research and along with more community awareness. Another aspect of fracking that is discussed much less than the environmental and public health aspects is that the people that benefit most from the fracking industry usually white affluent individuals do not live in the area that drilling process or waste disposal process happens (Johnston, J. j., Werder, E., & Sebastian, D. (2016). It is also important to keep in mind how the elites of society are able to mold and manipulate public opinion to suit their needs (Davis, C., & Fisk, J. M. (2014). It has been shown how persistent opinions from elites and media messages can sway public opinion in whichever direction they choose (Davis, C., & Fisk, J. M. (2014). This paper demonstrates how the fracking industry not only poisons the environment it poisons communities through creating conflict and negative public health issues. Methods In their research review Charles Davis and Jonathan Fisk (2014) set out to examine public attitudes about the fracking industry, they based their findings on analysis of survey data of 2400 American adults. • 5. Environmental Issues Of Air Pollution Environmental Issues A. Introduction Every day, the average person inhales about 20,000 liters of air. Every time we breathe, we risk inhaling dangerous chemicals that have found their way into the air. We as humans depend on the air around us to live, without it we would die. We rely on this as an essential source for living. Air pollution includes all contaminants found in the atmosphere. It is another major problem that is yet to be solved. These dangerous substances can be either in the form of gases or particles. The air is 99.9% nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor, and inert gases. Air pollution is a common term meaning the dirtying and gradual destruction of our natural resources, especially our air, water and land. This is referred to as environmental pollution. Once, years ago, the air was fresh and clear and the rivers were clean with fish swimming in the crystal clear waters and streams. This is no longer true today. Air pollution is the dirtying of the air. Where once we had blue skies and fresh air to breathe in, this is no longer the case. The air today is choked with toxic fumes from cars and factories. With more and more cars on the road, the carbon monoxide emitted from the car exhausts has polluted the Earth's atmosphere. The clearing of land to make way for housing or farms has also lead to forests being destroyed and burnt. But did you know that air pollution also found both outdoors and indoors? It can, Pollutants can be trapped inside buildings, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Environmental Issues Of Environmental Justice Environmental justice is a term coined in the United States that usually deals with two different things. One is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies. The other is a mixed body of social science literature pertaining to anything from environmental laws to political ecology. Primarily based around the concept of injustices carried out by energy companies, environmental injustice is still a rampant problem in todays wide variety of social justice issues. While the prior two meanings mentioned are the main ones, some other definitions include equitable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are seen as environmental discrimination because the companies are placing possibly toxic facilities in these specific areas where the residents do not often have the means to fight back against them. Due to the results of that study, waste dumps and waste incinerators have been the target of environmental justice lawsuits and protests. Several of the most popular Environmental Justice lawsuits are based off of violations of civil rights laws. The first instance to use civil rights as a way to challenge the placement of a waste–management facility was in 1979. The Northeast Community Action Group, or NECAG, was created by African American residents in a middle–class neighborhood in order to keep a landfill out of their home town. This group is recognized as the first organization that found the connection between race and pollution. The group, alongside their attorney Linda McKeever Bullard started the lawsuit Bean v. Southwestern Waste Management, Inc., which was the first of its kind to challenge the sitting of a waste facility under civil rights law. The Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, which was used many times to defend minority rights during the 1960s, has also been used in numerous Environmental Justice cases. Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is sometimes used in lawsuits that are fighting environmental inequality. Section 601 prohibits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Hawaii Environmental Issues The entire world is experiencing climate change and a vast array of environmental problems. Hawaii itself is suffering from its own issues: the decline of native species, ocean pollution, the erosion of waterways, and more. None of these problems can be solved in a single sweeping gesture. Only through many small efforts, with many people, can we solve the issues we now face, both in Hawaii and the world as a whole. However, while many small efforts are necessary, large changes can be accomplished when individuals have the intent, knowledge, skills, and credentials to initiate, plan, and carry out projects designed to solve these issues. Environmental Studies would prepare me to be one of those people. After completing my degree I will be able to participate in efforts to solve many of the environmental problems Hawaii now faces. Hawaii has more reason than most places to seek to protect and care for its natural environment. Besides its enviable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many different capacities I can accomplish this through, however: as an environmental planner, an analyst, a policy–maker, a speaker, and in many other ways as well. The details of my plan are flexible. My intent is not, however. • 11. Environmental Issues In The Environment There are many environmental issues that are affecting our planet which include air and water pollution, devastation of oceans and forests, population growth, weakening of the ozone layer, and global climate change. These environmental problems are becoming more and more of a concern to political scientists and it will take cooperation from all states to resolve the issues. There are different perspectives regarding environmental issues and how to address them; liberal, constructivist, and realist. Air pollution is due to industrialization. Since countries began to industrialize, the air has been filled with pollutants from car exhausts, energy production, and factories. Air pollution causes major health problems such as respiratory infections, heart disease, lung disease such as asthma, and even cancer. Water pollution causes a shortage of drinking water and it is a sanitation problem. Water pollution goes hand in hand with the destruction of oceans because we pollute the ocean with trash, ship pollution, and oil spills. The destruction of the oceans also involves overfishing. Population growth is one of the bigger environmental problems because it expands the other issues. Population growth increases strain on the environment because we need more resources like food, clean water, and clean air, which causes an overall resource reduction. Weakening of the ozone increases the ultraviolet light that comes through which causes skin cancer, it can affect crops, and it aids ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Greed And Consumerism "Greed (for the lack of a better word) is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of evolutionary spirit". Gordan Gekko from 'Wall Street' says that whilst greed is good, our environment conjectures otherwise. The rise of greed and modern human culture has helped facilitate aspects of consumerism by creating a desperation for more. More friends, more food, more clothes, more money, more dreams. Entirely based around the concept of lust, selfishness and envy, consumerism helps appeal to the mass's most primal desires, exchanging a person's rationality for emotional investment. Experts now aver that all of human history has come down to one coherent fact; our only purpose is to consume ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this present moment, the standard of consumption had dramatically increased at an unprecedented rate, to the point where sources have zero time to replenish in order to coincide with the rate of consumption. It is predicated that in order to sustain a single Western's lifestyle, 4–6 hectares of land is need per person. Thinking back to other environmental issues, consumerism is at the cornerstone of approximately 60–80% of all environmental impacts experienced today. We have water scarcity because of the overuse of clean drinking water in western societies and pollution levels in aquatic environments, we have fast fashion because westerners want unethically–made and poorer quality clothing articles made at a faster rate than ever before, and deforestation? You guessed it, because we want our land to undergo urbanisation so that we can make more goods to consume and to live out the American dream. And for what? The latest and greatest? Or So that we can feel a sense of superiority over others? This looming consumer demand has been the originator of multiple ecological imbalances that can be seen around the world. Consumerism is heavily linked with environmental degradation. The name of the agency tells us that they are here to protect the environment and hold those who would harm our earth responsible for their actions. Unfortunately, the very agency that has been tasked with our protection has now become the perpetrator of an environmental disaster in Colorado. Last week, the EPA accidently dumped over three million gallons of toxic waste into Animus River (Kinkaid, 2015). The Impact Of Environmental Issues On The Environment Throughout history, the environment around our society has played a large role and has had serious implication on the very existence of humans. From war, peace migration, population growth, disease, along with the rise and fall of many civilizations mother nature has been right along for the ride through the prosperity and as well as the hardship. The environmental problems that occur have been happening due to natural occurrences, but recently since the age of the Industrial Revolution human activity has become a large factor in the increased problems that are present, and the implications of our consequences are hurting not only the environment but also us in turn. The major environmental issues cause by humans are loss in biodiversity, deforestation, ocean pollution, water scarcity and climate change. The different environmental issues that are brought up with human activity are intense and sometimes the effects are not seen immediately but they do have an effect on the surrounding environment. First, I will elaborate one the different issues and explain what they include. The first being Biodiversity, which is known as the "The variety of life, typically expressed in terms of species richness." (Bolen 2010). This includes both biotic and abiotic factors in the natural world that thrive. The second issue present is that of deforestation which is the action of clearing an area of trees, which could range anywhere from a small piece of land to a large area. Another ... • 19. Environmental Pollution : Social And Social Issues In The... Throughout the years we as a society have considered the problems within our environment and the social problems we face completely unrelated issues. Technological advances have recently shown us that this is untrue, linked through human intervention our environmental and social issues have a lot more in common than originally thought. The social and environmental issue of pollution is one of the more pressing issues of our time. Our air, water and food supplies are all vulnerable to being heavily polluted by our mishandling of our environment and natural resources. Whether as a consequence of improper disposal or ignorance pollution has become one of our society's biggest complications. Air Pollution There are many ways pollution can be introduce into our environment. Our air, water and earth are all victims of many different pollutants. The leading and the main pollutant on earth is carbon dioxide. When released in the air they contaminate deadly gases like carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide. These gases then fall into the water which leads to contamination of the hydrosphere. This pollutant is widely considered to be associated with cars, planes, power plants and other human activities.Studies say 80% of lung diseases in america are caused due to pollution from vehicles. People who breathe in these poisons have higher risk for asthma and reproductive–system damage. According the the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, birth defects can be caused by air pollution. A social impact in the manufacturing stage of the supply chain is child labour. The computers being made in developing countries often people are so desperate resulting in children being exploited. They make these children work long hours for less than minimum wage. This is highly unethical and the company should regulate their suppliers rigorously ensuring that they hire employees of working age and provide them with fair pay. By doing this the business would be socially responsible resulting in the increase in popularity of their company resulting in higher dividends for shareholder and increase profit margins. • 23. The Impact Of Environmental Issues On The Environment In today's society, the environment is constantly being poorly affected by humans and their actions. Environmental issues are defined as problems that the planet's systems face due to humans not treating the Earth properly. These issues can occur from simple actions such as someone throwing their trash on the ground, people overpopulating an area, or even someone driving their car. The importance of this essay is to address these many issues that the Earth is facing along with explaining how we can put an end to these problems. The issues that the planet's systems are facing, are social problems because humans are being negatively affected by them. Imus (2014), states "Recent studies have linked pollution exposure to asthma, autism, heart disease, cancer, schizophrenia, migraines, and more" (p. 1). Humans are polluting the Earth, which is killing our environment and causing themselves to get sick as well. In our society, the Earth is being treated very poorly. King (2013), states "1.9 billion tons of litter ends up in the ocean every year" (p. 1). Whenever people throw trash on the ground, 80 percent of it is carried by runoff; meaning that the trash is transported to the ocean by waterways. After the trash is transported into the ocean, sea creatures are put in danger. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), "64 percent of lakes and 30 percent of bay and estuarine areas are not clean enough for fishing and swimming" (Bradford, ... Americans have been dealing with air pollution, overpopulation, natural resource depletion, pesticide, water pollution and public health issues. These issues are causing environmental problems and had a negative effect on the environment. Most of these crises started in the early 19th century. The government got involved and started creating laws to protect the environment and the public. Air Pollution is one of the issues of concern, as the Industry develop and grow, smoke was one of the endures that American had to deal with, this was created from manufacturing jobs and to help improve the living standards (Merchant, 120). By the 1920, where coal was used for domestic heating, "people with rain barrels on their roofs found the water contaminated with soot; city trees began dying" (Merchant, 120). Breathing in polluted air was causing human health issues (Merchant, 120). "The smoke and soot irritated the nose, throat, and lungs, giving rise to, or exacerbating a multitude of ailments ranging from the common cold to asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, black lung disease, tuberculosis, diphtheria, and typhoid fever" (Merchant, 120). The situations clearly provide another strong ground for the community members in the Dona Park to complain. Looking at these situations closely, the residents of the Dona Park had every right to complain for environmental injustice. The soil contamination issues found after assessments were addressed, but that could not separate the fact that the residents were indeed living in unsafe environment, as they were exposed to the metal particles prior to the cleanup operations. Perhaps it is a curse to live in a disposable society because of cost, environmental and social problems. To do so, I will investigate specific issues and regulation deficiencies that are negatively impacting the Great Lakes' reserves, and develop a plan of action on your behalf. As you are aware, protecting the Great Lakes is critically important. It is not only the largest source of freshwater in the United States but in the whole world. Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin border the Great Lakes, and all of those states use it as a water source for a total of about 10 million people. Since the passing of the Clean Water Act, industries like U.S. Steel Industry have been using the loopholes found in the bill to further their profit, and as a side effect has caused damage to the water supply, disproportionately affecting people in marginalized communities. By using these loopholes, the Great Lakes are continually polluted, which causes appalling damage to the millions of people who use the water for drinking and other water–centric necessities. Also, aging infrastructure causes leaking pipes, corroding pipes that jeopardize the water systems, and failing sewage treatment plants. These infrastructure problems not only disproportionate effect marginalized communities but all communities suffer when the Great Lakes become polluted. Media draws from various sources to gather facts and assemble stories for their readership. When a story comes out about a new scientific discovery or an impending extinction of a species, the source must be considered. In a paper by Jeremy Corbett entitled "Testing Public Uncertainty of Science" he discusses how newspapers especially just don't have the manpower to go straight to the scientific source. Media often rely on information sourced from governmental and private entities rather than cutting edge scientific information. This allows them to provide information that is easily understood and likely widely accepted. Corbett gives the example of a magazine that cites scientific reports but changes their story constantly: cell phones cause cancer, no they don`t, then months later they are back to the initial assumption. • 53. Environmental Ngos And Global Environmental Issues How environmental NGOs use the media to shape global environmental issues Even though there have been greatly public concerns about environmental issues since 1960s, practical action as the solution seems to be useless due to the limitation of state and pressure from the corporation. Moreover, the function of international organizations has also faced with difficulties in terms of enforcement and regulation; therefore, there has been wide gap between actors responding to the environmental issues. Environmental NGOs have adequately fulfilled this gap – owned multiple instruments to reach their goals, for example, conducting the environmental–concerned researches, lobbying in both domestic government and global governance and also TNCs, and more importantly raising public awareness and collective action from below (McCormick 2005: 92). Environmental NGOs, 'agent of change' works in all both levels; political sphere and civil society (Ford 2011:27). At political level, environmental NGOs act as a pressure group and lobbyist to government and TNCs. Another level is civil society in which environmental NGOs acts in domestic levels – within the nation boundaries, and also in global level, consequently there is part of possibility of global civil society in which people are not limited by nation boundary, but can share common value and perform collective action as a global citizen (McCormick 2005: 93). In doing so, environmental NGOs always politicize the issues by shaping global ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Contemporary Photographers : Environmental Issues And... In the preceding chapter, I demonstrated how contemporary photographers take advantage of innovative ways to tell stories, alert the public about environmental issues and spark engagement. This chapter furthers the discussion by exploring current trends in environmental activism ranging from the modest to extreme opportunities for engagement beyond traditional media. Nowadays, photographers, environmental advocates, and NGOs reorient public perceptions about environmental issues through unique and creative experiences that have expanded to the web, and lately to social media and emerging digital platforms. In the first part of the chapter, I focus on coordinated efforts of photographers and environmentalists working to resolve problems affecting the global community. The next section considers voices outside the mainstream also working to make known the overwhelming issues facing planet Earth. Following this, I turn to partnerships between environmentalists, NGOs, and celebrities that drive media and the public's attention to environmental causes. The last part of the chapter considers a new trend of environmental activism through art. Visual Stories Drive (of) Global Impact Environmentalism in some form goes back decades consisting of a variety of activities that led to policy for preservation and protection open places and spaces (see Ch. 3). Module 1 Assignment 3 SCI201 Ecology and Environmental Sustainability Argosy University The Industrial Revolution, which took place in the 18th to the 19th centuries, was an era during which essentially uncultivated, rural societies in America and other countries became industrial and urban. Before the Industrial Revolution, which began in Britain during the late 1700s, construction was mostly done by using hand tools or basic machines. Mechanization marked a shifted to powered, special–purpose machinery, factories and mass production. The Clean Water Act (CWA) establishes the basic structure for regulating discharges of pollutants into the water of the United States and regulating quality standards for surface waters (Summary of the Clean Water Act, 2014). The Clean water Act made it wrongful to release any pollutant from a point source into open waters, without permission to do so. Even though the laws have been set up, enforcement of said laws has been lax. Although the Industrial Revolution precisely assembled the world we live in today, if we correct the mistakes in the past, we won't have a world tomorrow. These Acts are still in effect in my state but not everyone follows. More people are dying from second hand smoke, which come from smoking of tobacco products. Some places need to be smoke free such as public parks and family areas. Most hospitals in my city are smoke free areas and that's great. As far as water pollution in my state, everything isn't all that perfect since Hurricane Katrina. • 59. Environmental And Environmental Issues During The... Environmental Issues and the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution took pace from the 18th to 19th centuries. It was a period when rural areas became industrial and urban. Before the Industrial Revolution, engineering was mainly done in people's homes. They used hand tools and sometimes basic machines. Industrialization put an end to that, using powered, advanced machinery, factories and mass production. This made engineering much faster, easier and more efficient. It even increased the amount of factory–made goods, as well as the variety of them. Industrialization improved the living conditions for people in the middle and upper classes. The poor and working classes had to do the dangerous jobs, for a very low amount of pay, while working in harmful conditions. So many people from the rural areas were moving to the urban areas for work, that they couldn't keep up. This caused overpopulation. Homes were overcrowded, and people were living in polluted and unsanitary conditions, which made them more at risk of diseases. Pollution is one of the most environmentally negative impacts of the Industrial Revolution. Air, water, and soil pollution were extremely bad during the Industrial Revolution. Industrialization polluted the air, water and soils due to the waste products that factories generate. Most factories and industries require water for their work. When water is involved in these processes, it encounters metals, chemicals, and wastes, that will contaminate it. They are then dumped into oceans and rivers. Doing so, kills fish and other sea animals, decreasing the population. Farmers us this water to grow their crops. Using contaminated water then affects the quality of their crops. When the farmers use the water in their soil, it can cause soil pollution. This pollution will destroy plants if anything or anyone comes in contact with it, it can cause long–lasting health issues. Air pollution can cause a variety of illnesses for people and the environment. With all of these pollutions, there comes an increase in global warming. Global warming causes glaciers to melt, extinction of animals, floods, tsunamis and hurricanes, which are some of the deadliest natural phenomena. If any of these phenomena ... Uncertainty Risk Trust And Information In Literature Review The Article, "Uncertainty, Risk, Trust, and Information: Public Perceptions of Environmental Issues and Willingness to Take Action" written by Reneé J. Johnson and Michael J. Scicchitano in its current form is unfit for publication. Johnson and Scicchitano should be commended for identifying a gap in our ability to accurately quantify the strength and intensity of environmental concerns. This gap is certainly worthy of further study; however, their execution and attempt to quantify this phenomena does not have the necessary wherewithal to close the gap in the literature as it stands. The problems with their work begins almost immediately in the initial literature review. The literature review is plagued by Ill–defined, or simply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Further, the literature review suffers from an additional lack of clarity in the paragraph on the bottom of page 634. Here, the authors begin to delve into the theory and rationalization behind including uncertainty as an appropriate measure. The authors write, "Uncertainty can affect an individuals willingness to act on environmental beliefs in several ways" signaling to the reader that a laundry list of factors is to follow. However, they only make mention of one tangentially linked evidence based factor, that an increase in the complexity of issues leads to increased uncertainty in the scientific community. No further examples in support of uncertainty follow this one. Instead, the authors pivot towards unfounded speculation about uncertainties role in individuals willingness to take environmental action, and then they abruptly transition to their discussion of trust. The issue of uncertainty persists in the manner with which the authors have chosen to operationalize their research question. When operationalizing their research question the authors made several critical clerical errors that could have impacted their results. In their discussion of uncertainty there is a lack of clarity in the definition used which could cause confusion given the associated context in which the measure is being used. The definition of uncertainty within the scientific community most certainly differs from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first thing it exemplifies is the state of our world. The fact that the ice is being tipped up is still floating above the water shows how this is just the beginning. The crisis of global warming is a threat to the world, yet it hasn't taken full effect yet. This is only the beginning of the world's global warming crisis. The way that the ice ends up tipping almost also makes it as if it is an iceberg. This is extremely important as icebergs are extremely symbolic. If the public starts taking global warming seriously maybe the future loss of life from superstorms will be prevented. Part of the reason why neither of these issues are properly identified is that by looking at both of these images, it is clear that people struggle acknowledging issues that aren't directly affecting them in that moment of time. Part of the reason why so few people spoke up in regards to the Flint water crisis was that only the people in Flint were being affected. This same idea can be seen with the issue of global warming. The effects of global warming won't become noticeable to the human population until it may be irreversible. However, due to the fact that not everyone can feel the effects of these issues they are often ignored. But why do we ignore issues that don't directly affect us? It is partially due to fear. In Flint, the water crisis is also an issue of underlying socioeconomic tension. No one wants to believe that after our nation's long horrifying issue of racial tension, that it still exists. As for global warming, no one wants to believe that the population as a whole may be having detrimental effects on our environment. Due to the fact the these issues don't directly affect everyone, we can pretend like the issues aren't as bad as they are. In order to overcome this fear that is frequently associated with pressing issues, the public must feel more obligated to take action. • 65. We'Re Hot as Hell We're Hot as Hell Is global warming a moral dilemma? Is it the public policy problem from hell? In "The Environmental Issue from Hell," Bill McKibben uses many of such phrases en route to arguing for a new approach to global warming. By discussing hell and morals, the reader's mind is already equating it with two heavily debated issues. Therefore, we begin to question their existence and how we should deal with the subjects. McKibben wisely chooses these disputes to represent his main concerns: the ways in which consumerism affects the global ecosystem, and the impact of humans on the environment. McKibben presents a solution on how to handle each of these environmental issues, utilizing both the people and the government. McKibben's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mckibben inaugurates his third paragraph suggesting that we make the environmental issues, ""the great moral crisis of our time, and the equivalent of the civil rights movement of the 1960s."(747). He uses this analogy to explain that in his opinion, we are strip–mining the present and destroying all of whom come after it. Thus, leading him to discuss exactly how humans' materialistic ways have impacted the earth. From Bangladesh living three months in thigh high–deep water, to polar bears becoming "20% scrawnier than they were a decade ago" (748). The environmentalist writer goes on to discuss how to deal with global warming since it is indeed creeping up on us. Mckibben once again articulates his repetitive view that, "it's a moral question, finally, if you think we owe any debt to the future." (748). In many circumstances it is believed that if it had been done to us, we would dislike the generation that did it, just as how we will one day be disliked. The solution given in the essay on how to handle these environmental issues is to start a moral campaign. In other words, "... turn it into a political issue, just as bus boycotts began to make public the issue of race, forcing the system to respond. " (748). As a part of the overall populist causing these issues, Mckibben understands that the hardest part about starting this moral campaign is identifying a villain to overcome. Briefly ... The Scarcity Of Water And Its Effect On Gender Inequality Jonathan Dalloo Professor Lewis Sociology 2201 December 12, 2016 The Paucity of Water and its Effect on Gender Inequality in India Based on a research survey conducted by the United Nations it reveals that, "convenient access to water and sanitation facilities increase privacy and reduce risk to women and girls of sexual harassment ..." (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, 2005). Women living at the beginning and middle points of the village have to trek for a considerable distance to reach the stream, when compared to those who live at the bottom of the village near the stream. Women are the primary stakeholders in the fight for clean water as sources such as many rivers and wells are contaminated as they bear the burden and lack the freedoms that are necessary to ensure equality not inequality. Women in India have limited access to resources and the ability to express in the public sphere, which creates division of bearing the burden of responsibilities in the fight against the shortage of water. In many rural areas in India, women have to walk a distance of about 2.5 kilometers to reach up to the source of water. Women reach home carrying heavy pots, not to rest but to do other household chores of cooking, cleaning, caring of children and looking after livestock, and in the evening fetching water. Thus, a rural woman's life has become sheer drudgery for lack of water. There are many key causes of the water crisis that are due to: a rapid growth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Fracking Environmental Issues Considering my major is environmental studies I have chosen to focus this week's journal entry on threatening environmental issues. My first issue surrounds the water crisis in California and the second I'll be focusing on the controversial issue of fracking. The drought in California has presented some controversial and difficult issues for the residents of the state. Due to the lack of rain and fresh water the state has began, with no regulation, pumping irreplaceable groundwater to aid the drought. This is an out of sight crisis considering it is invisible in the average persons life. Furthermore, as long as residents are continuing to have access to water in their homes and work places the crisis is largely out of sight out of mind. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fracking is also referred as hydraulic fracturing in which rock is fractured by a pressurized liquid to further create cracks and openings underground to extract more free flowing components such as natural gas, petroleum, and brine. Millions of 'frac' jobs have been performed on oil and gas wells worldwide to further extract more shale gas, tight gas, tight oil and coral seam gas. This highly controversial issue of greed and depletion of deeply bounded fossil fuels is extremely important. The argumentative basis of this matter is between those whom benefit and have more readily available accessible hydrocarbons and the people who are aware of the potential hazardous environmental effects. Hydraulic fracturing greatly threatens the risk of ground and surface water contamination, air pollution, noise pollution, and the consequential triggering of earth quakes and hazardous long– term effects that are unknown. This is highly controversial considering the industry that is already in power of fossil fuel extraction is highly powerful and ran by both government powers and mass corporate powers with much control on those who regulate. I am on the opposing side of the fossil greedy powerful organizations who push for fracking and believe that there are surely alternative solutions. I am personally interested in the issue of fracking because I know how important and vital clean ground and surface water are for human survival and also because I am terrified of the technology mankind has came to power over that in which threatens and potentially could trigger disasters that we have no control over such as earthquakes and sinking of the land. There are many issues amongst my major that I cold have focused on but I believe in this current day the largest problems surround the ever so greedy and extreme measures mankind will take to have power over natural resources, ... Essay on Sustainability at EastLink Engineering Project Sustainability, which is the definition of "the process of using, conserving and enhancing a community's resources", plays a significant part in large engineering projects such as EastLink. EastLink's long–term goal is to provide a fast, lasting alternative for drivers to commute between eastern suburbs. For a project that had a final total cost of $2.5B, sustainability, that is ensuring that its relevance and usefulness to the society today and for the foreseeable future is a pivotal part of EastLink. Permanent projects that demand large commitment and resources are the ones that need to heed the concept of sustainability the most, as often there is no going back once construction of such a project has begun. Just like it is with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two significant decisions that have affected the EastLink project are firstly, the decision to develop EastLink as a tollway and secondly, an environmental issue involving potential damage that would be caused to the nearby Mullum Mullum Valley. EastLink was a multibillion–dollar project, and its funding stemmed primarily from the Federal government, however as the project progressed, the Victorian Government switched to the stance that the EastLink project was no longer viable as a toll free road which subsequently led to the termination of the partial Federal government funding for EastLink. The Federal government's reasoning being that it would only provide support and funding for projects that were toll free, hence the Victorian Government's initial promise. The Victorian Government's decision to have EastLink be a tolled motorway is one influenced by the operating and development costs of such a large civil project and is largely motivated by the financial return of such a project. These concerns were later shown as EastLink made a loss of nearly $93M in its first six months of operation, the largest reason being that being a tolled motorway, it would not attract as many motorists than it would've being a toll free road. The second decision arose over the planning of the layout of EastLink, namely over the extent of environmental damage that would be caused ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Environmental Issue Of Environmental Issues Jennifer Manfredi INRI 1015 4/18/15 Environmental Issues One of the greatest things which is being talked about presently is the growing concerns of scientists, environmentalists, and people of this planet when it comes to environmental issues. Environmental issues is something that is discussed frequently in the news, in politics, and in classrooms around the world. More and more we are becoming informed and aware of the current and ever facing environmental crises that are taking place around the world today. Some scientists and environmentalists believe that many things within our lives daily contribute to the growing detriment of the environment. This paper will examine the concept of the biosphere, the differing viewpoints of environmental optimists and environmental pessimists regarding the growing environmental issues, and the ways in which we can work to preserve our environment and solutions to environmental issues. As discussed in the text International Politics on the World Stage one of the main environmental goals currently is to sustain and preserve our biosphere. The biosphere is the global sum of all of our ecosystems on the area of earth that is occupied by living things and able to support life. It contains the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere of the planet. The biosphere consists of the land that we live on, the water that we use, and the air that we breathe. The biosphere also contains the upper atmosphere and supports the life of the living ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though no one was totally qualified, there were others that did understand the area better than the person that was promoted. The next example that I will write about is the management of some of the clinics in the system. The issue has been that no one has managed the clinics long. Usually the management is let go due to poor outcome. People that had been hired have always wanted to make drastic changes and expect to see results quickly. Of course, it takes time and steps to see the results that new management expects to see. The last example that I would like to discuss is the effects of software transitions. We are currently in the middle of a software installation. In order for this to occur, many of the system employees have changed over to the software implementation team. This means that many departments in the hospital have been forced to hire new people. The new employees have struggled to understand the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
