2. Major and Minor Institutions
• Majors are large institutions who are known for their
size and domination of the whole industry
• Minors are subsidiaries of majors used to lessen
competition and allow the major to benefit from a
wider variety of audiences
• Because they are conglomerates who own their whole
company they are able to diversify and meet the ever
changing needs of a wider audience
• There are 3 major institutions who dominate the
industry: Warner, Universal and Sony
• They each own subsidiaries who have different targets,
genres and USPs which allow them to benefit on all
fronts

3. My Chosen Label
• I chose Sony Music because they fitted the needs of my
artist’s promotional campaign
• I felt they would be able to maximise my music video in
order to help it reach as many people as possible -
especially those who would be interested in it
• Sony are well known for acoustic artists who have a
story to tell everyone
• The artist’s I researched were split between being
signed to Warner and Sony, which created a thought-
provoking decision for who to pick for my record label.
In the end I chose Sony because an investigation into
the other artists they had signed told me that it would
fit Franz’ needs the most
