1. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA
INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE
YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?
2. IPC MEDIA
IPC Media only run one music magazine which is NME.
Although this is not a pop magazine, it is a very successful
music magazine that is extremely well known.
I feel the IPC Media could be a good choice because they
have room in their market to take on another music
magazine, also NME isn’t within the pop genre and so there
wouldn’t be competition between the two magazines.
IPC have done a very good job with the publishing of NME
and so could do the same with a pop magazine and introduce
themselves to an entirely new market.
3. BAUER
BAUER’s most successful music magazine is Q magazine.
Much like IPC, Bauer have only this music magazine and as it
is not a pop-based magazine there is a gap in their market to
introduce a pop magazine to attract a new audience for them.
They have made Q very successful and so could do the same
with a pop magazine as well as adding to their clientele.
There are almost the same advantages and disadvantages to
Bauer and IPC, however Bauer has many other music based
brands for example ‘4 music’ channel and ‘THE HITS’
channel. This suggests to me that they have more experience
with music based products and so would most probably
generate interest in my product better than IPC would.
4. BBC MAGAZINES
BBC magazines are well known for publishing any magazines
that are related to shows shown on a BBC channel. Although
this would most probably mean that they would not publish
my magazine, I still thought it would be appropriate to look at
them as a possible publishing choice mainly because they
publish the UK’s most successful pop music magazine to
date.
The TOP OF THE POPS magazine is the most famous pop
music magazine and by far the most successful. This could
mean that they would publish my magazine ACAPELLA,
because pop music is an area BBC magazines are interested
in.
