1. Steal My Girl by One Direction
Use of Camera -long shots to show people on mass
-necessary to see faces in pop genre because it’s what sells them as
artists
-variety of different shots (close-ups and medium shots) to create their
individual and group identity
-very rare that there’s no band members in the frame
-individual shots play to the individual fan bases for example by
naming them at the beginning of the video with the fan identity
Pace and Rhythm
of Editing
-beginning = continuity
-rest of video = montage
-both fast and slow paced to fit in with each section of the song
-montage edit makes it unrealistic and therefore connotes an idealised
world
Genre Ingredients -pop videos are commonly abstract now so adheres to the stereotype
of pop music videos
-contains the artist performing which is a common stereotype of the
pop genre
-personalities are showing through which are a key part of selling the
band because they are ‘love interests’
-use of camera creates the mood which they hope for the artist to be
viewed in
Audience and Text -audience are having fun because the artist are having fun within the
video itself
-close-ups create a connection between the artist and the audience
because the audience can feel as though they are actually there
Type of Video -abstract
-disjuncture
Video and Lyrics -doesn’t really fit the lyrics because if you were really trying to ‘steal
my girl’ you wouldn’t be at a carnival type event
-promotes the band rather than the song because it fits in with the
stereotype of them as individuals
