Topic. MY NATIVE PLACE I LIVE IN
Objectives:
- Study pupils to tell about place of living using grammar constructions ‘there
are/there is’ and photos of interesting places which are famous and important in
the village;
- Develop English language skills in reading, listening and speaking with friends
about native village;
- Educate the pride of the country and place where we live.
Equipment: photos, cards with exercises, colored pencils and markers, sheets of
paper for project work, presentation.
PROCEDURE OF THE LESSON
I The beginning of the lesson
1. Greeting
2. Aim. Today we are going to speak about the place you live in using grammar
constructions ‘there are/ there is’ and necessary vocabulary. You’ll continue
further practice in reading and listening, acting dialogues and playing different
games.

Exercise 2. Look at the photos 1-5 on the blackboard. Are these photos connected
with the same place or not? What can you see on them? Describe the photos to the
class (one sentence for everybody; at the end of the task one of the pupils retells all
mentioned details).

Exercise 4.
a) Guess what. A pupil describes one of the mentioned places with own words and
other children should guess and write the name in their copybooks.
b) Missing cards. Teacher places five cards (photos 1-5) on the blackboard. Pupils
turn around or close their eyes. At that moment teacher turns one card over. Then
children try to guess the ‘missing’ card. It can be repeated many times. This game
works well as a whole class activity or in small groups. At the end teacher can turn
all cards over and pupils should name everything.
Exercise 5. Play time. One pupil comes to the blackboard, stands in front of the
class, thinks about some place from the topic “My Village” and, listening to the
classmates’ questions (for example: Is it a post office?), tries to give the answer:
“Yes” or “No”. The person, who wins, comes to the blackboard and changes the
player. And so on (the photos 1-5 on the blackboard can help children to guess).

I live in a beautiful village. It is a nice village in Ukraine. People live in
beautiful private houses. There are two schools (primary and secondary), a church,
a football field and a hospital in my village. There are also some shops. We can

buy all we need there. There is a forest around the village. It is very beautiful and
big. We like to go for a walk there. And often we have picnics in the forest. I like
pleasant smell of leaves and flowers.
Our village is modern. We have all opportunities for studying, going in for
sports and entertainment.
But a river is the most important place for us. There is a nice beach, that all
people call ‘The freedom bank’. We can spend all day long swimming and playing
in summer. In winter we like to ski and play hockey there. I like my village very
much.

Exercise 11. Story time. Groups of pupils make the story about their village using
the plan and the photos 1-5. On the sheets of paper they fill in the necessary words
in sentences given below, draw their associations about the village they live in,
glue given photos 1-5 on it.
