Тема: Природа і довкілля
Підтема: Вплив НТР на життя людини і довкілля
Ситуація: Чи є у планети шанс?
Мета:
 навчити учнів вживати лексико-граматичні одиниці на задану тему;
 розвивати навички діалогічного та монологічного мовлення учнів;
 розвиватив учнів уміння вестиаргументованубесіду, працюватив команді
над вирішенням проблеми;
 виховувати екологічну грамотність та громадянськусвідомість учнів щодо
необхідності збереження довкілля.
Очікуваний результат: учні зможуть пояснити взаємозв’язок людини і
навколишнього середовища; будуть уміти презентувати та обговорювати
проєкти, спрямовані на збереження довкілля та його сталий розвиток.
Тип уроку: урок узагальнення та систематизації знань.
Обладнання: ноутбук, мультимедійний проектор, інтерактивна дошка,
перезентація Smart Note, відеотекст для аудіювання «10 Major Environmental
Problems»; висловлювання відомих людей про важливість збереження довкілля;
сигнальні картки (green and red hands); постер із зображенням земної кулі.

І. Початок уроку. Організаційний момент
Привітання. Вступне слово вчителя
T.: Dear boys and girls. I think each of you is ready for the lesson.
The topic for our discussion today is really interesting and actual to everyone, no
matter where you live, what nationality or age you are.
Nowadays it is the top topic throughout the world. Even if you are not enthusiastic
about it you will have to face it.
I’m talking about the ecology and its problems.

T: First of all, let’s remember the key words of our theme. You have to find 11 words
on the topic “ECOLOGY” in this word square on the Smartboard. You also have the
word square in front of you on the desks.
What words have you found?
T.: Your next task is to match the words and get 10 word combinations on the topic:
1. exhaust fumes
2. endangered species
3. fossil fuels
4. toxic waste
5. global warming
6. ozone layer
7. climate change
8. ecological problem
9. greenhouse effect
10. acid rain

same in different parts of our planet. Some areas of the Earth are dying. That is the
result of people’s action.
At today’s lesson we have to answer two major questions of the time:
1. Is the situation really so dangerous? Does a planet have a chance?
2.What can we do to protect the nature and save the Earth?

Now we are going to role play and discuss thesituation fromdifferent points ofview.
Then you will have to give solutions on this important problem.
Imagine that you are at the international ecological forum. The forum has to discuss
all pros and cons of technological progress and take a decision how to develop new
technologies while preserving the environment.
In our class we have four groups of specialists in different fields of human activities.
They are
 Ecologists
 Industrialists and farmers
 Scientists
 Sociologists
You must listen attentively to the report of every group and then you are to ask our
specialists some questions.

T.: The group of ecologists represent the British ecological organization “Friends of
the Earth” (FoE). They are going to describe the ecological situation on the planet.
Presentation of Ecologists.
Екологи висвітлюють наступні проблеми:
 Water pollution
 Soil pollution

 Air pollution
 Deforestation
 Extinct species
T.: This is our planet, the Earth. What ecological problems, in your opinion, are the
most actual today. Write them, please, on the globe.
Dear specialists, while our ecologists are writing, you can discuss the problems
they spoke about and ask them your questions.
(Groups of industrialists, scientists and sociologists ask their questions)
T.:Next comes the group of industrialists and farmers. They are going to discuss the
benefits of developing new technologies in industry and farming.

 New power plants must be built
 We can’t stop technological progress
 New plants mean working places and money for the regions
 New technologies in farming
 The problem of supplying food and GM crops
T.:Dear industrialists write your arguments on the blackboard, please.
And the groups, youhave time to discuss theindustrialists’ reportand askthem some
questions.

T.: Now the group of scientists is going to give some scientific prediction as to the
future of our civilization considering technological progress and global ecological
problems.

 Global warming

 Acid rains
T.:Dear scientists, write your investigated problems on the globe. And the groups, this
is the time for you to discuss these problems in short and ask the scientists some
questions.
(Groups of ecologists, industrialists and sociologists ask their questions)
T.: Now we are ready to listen to the report of sociologists who are going to present
some statistic data of nature damage and describe the human factor in it.

 Three Rs rule
T.: Thank you for your report. Please, write on the globe the problems you were
speaking about.
Please, discuss the report in groups and be ready to ask the sociologists some
questions.

T.:Look at the globe! You see that we have a lot ofecological problems, but I’m afraid
the list isn’t full. I’d like you to listen to some more information about the
environmental problems and complete this list.
You have 8 statements before you. Please, read them and then listen to the text.
While listening, decide if the statement is true or false.

4. Plastic, fast food packaging, electronic wastes threat the world’s beings and humans.
5. Human activity is leading to the extinction of species’ habitats and loss of
biodiversity.
6. Eco systems are in danger when any species’ population dies.
7. The balance of natural processes is not crucial to the survival of the eco systems.
8. Urban sprawl results in environmental and health problems.

cope with all these problems? What are the ways out of these dangerous situation?
You have some minutes for discussion of possible solutions to environmental
problems, write them on the cards and stick them on the whiteboard.

T.: Thank you very much for your ideas.
Let’s make a conclusion. We have to answer the major question of our today’s
meeting: “ Does humanity have a chance to survive on the planet Earth, and if so,
how?”
The team leaders speak for their groups.
PI. (Ecologists) Yes, we think the Earth will survive. We have time, money and
technologies to make it better, cleaner and safer place to live.
P2. (Industrialists) We think our planet has a chance to survive but we have to make
join efforts to save it.
P3. (Scientists) Our group thinks the Earth really has a chance to live if we don’tforget
the three Rs rule: recycle, reduce, reuse.

P4. (Sociologists) We think the Planet Earth will survive if we educate our people how
to save the environment.
T.: You are right. Ecological problems are really a great challenge to mankind but we
can copewith them if we join our efforts. I want you to read somequotations offamous

5. Treat the Earth well. It was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you

organism too. We should love, honour and respect her.

members of the groups get 10 points because your work was really successful and
productive.

The topic for our discussion today is really interesting and actual to everyone, no matter where you live, what nationality or age you are. Nowadays it is the top topic throughout the world. Even if you are not enthusiastic about it you will have to face it. I’m talking about the ecology and its problems.

You have to find 11 words on the topic “ECOLOGY” in this word square on the Smartboard. You also have the word square in front of you on the desks. What words have you found? Is the situation really so dangerous? Does a planet have a chance? 2.What can we do to protect the nature and save the Earth? Imagine that you are at the international ecological forum. The forum has to discuss all pros and cons of technological progress and take a decision how to develop new technologies while preserving the environment. In our class we have four groups of specialists in different fields of human activities. They are  Ecologists  Industrialists and farmers  Scientists  Sociologists You must listen attentively to the report of every group and then you are to ask our specialists some questions. Учні, презентуючи свої проекти, записують екологічні проблеми на постері) T.: The group of ecologists represent the British ecological organization “Friends of the Earth” (FoE). They are going to describe the ecological situation on the planet. Presentation of Ecologists. Екологи висвітлюють наступні проблеми:  Water pollution  Soil pollution
  • 5. 5  Air pollution  Deforestation  Extinct species T.: This is our planet, the Earth. What ecological problems, in your opinion, are the most actual today. Write them, please, on the globe. Dear specialists, while our ecologists are writing, you can discuss the problems they spoke about and ask them your questions. (Groups of industrialists, scientists and sociologists ask their questions) T.:Next comes the group of industrialists and farmers. They are going to discuss the benefits of developing new technologies in industry and farming. Presentation of industrialists and farmers. (Groups of ecologists, scientists and sociologists ask their questions) T.: Now the group of scientists is going to give some scientific prediction as to the future of our civilization considering technological progress and global ecological problems. And the groups, this is the time for you to discuss these problems in short and ask the scientists some questions. (Groups of ecologists, industrialists and sociologists ask their questions) T.: Now we are ready to listen to the report of sociologists who are going to present some statistic data of nature damage and describe the human factor in it. Presentation of Sociologists Соціолги наводять факти нанесення людиною шкоди довкіллю та говорять про:  Overpopulation  Three Rs rule T.: Thank you for your report. Please, write on the globe the problems you were speaking about. Please, discuss the report in groups and be ready to ask the sociologists some questions. (Groups of ecologists, industrialists and scientistss ask their questions) T.:Look at the globe! You see that we have a lot ofecological problems, but I’m afraid the list isn’t full. I’d like you to listen to some more information about the environmental problems and complete this list. You have 8 statements before you. Please, read them and then listen to the text. Fastwater consumptionresults in greenhouse gases which are responsible for global warming. 3. Developing countries producean excessive amount ofwastes and dump their wastes to the oceans or to more developed countries. 4. Plastic, fast food packaging, electronic wastes threat the world’s beings and humans. 5. Human activity is leading to the extinction of species’ habitats and loss of biodiversity. 6. Eco systems are in danger when any species’ population dies. 7. The balance of natural processes is not crucial to the survival of the eco systems. 8. Urban sprawl results in environmental and health problems. T. Please, add to the list on the globe the ecological problems you listened to. You have some minutes for discussion of possible solutions to environmental problems, write them on the cards and stick them on the whiteboard. No to CFCs. 15. Eco-friendly industrial processes. 16. New methods in farming. 17. Recycling wastes. 18. Reducing the amount of energy and water used 19. Reusing things 20.Collecting wastes into different containers. 21. Environmental education T.: Thank you very much for your ideas. Let’s make a conclusion. We have to answer the major question of our today’s meeting: “ Does humanity have a chance to survive on the planet Earth, and if so, how?” The team leaders speak for their groups. PI. (Ecologists) Yes, we think the Earth will survive. We have time, money and technologies to make it better, cleaner and safer place to live. P2. (Industrialists) We think our planet has a chance to survive but we have to make join efforts to save it. P3. (Scientists) Our group thinks the Earth really has a chance to live if we don’tforget the three Rs rule: recycle, reduce, reuse.
