Question 4 media
evaluation.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
 When creating our media opening sequence, my group and I did some
research and we found that 15-24 year olds in 2014 made up the largest
proportion of the UK cinema audience. We took this information and decided
to try to aim our opening sequence to a young adult Audience, therefore we
decided to rate our opening sequence 15. when researching we found that the
bbfc stated that 15 rated films, videos and downloads can contain strong
material including strong swearing, strong horror and strong violence.
 To make sure we had chosen the right age rating for our film we decided to
look into thriller films which had similar thriller themes to our opening
sequence, this included suspense, mystery and horror. We found that Blair
Witch which is classed as a horror thriller on IMDb was rated 15. We also
found that The Girl on the Train was classed as a Drama, Mystery thriller and
was also rated 15 on IMDb. By doing this research it helped us to clarify that
the age rating we had chose was suitable for our thriller opening sequence.
 When also planning we had to think of the male and female viewers. We
wanted our film to be targeted for both Men and Women. So, in order to
satisfy both gender needs we needed parts in our opening sequence to grab
there attention. For example, to satisfy the women watching we added the
theme of mystery as the audience watching would not know who has taken
the protagonist hostage. However, we didn't use any women actors in our
opening sequence, because we wanted to contradict the stereotype that
women are always the victims. By doing this we thought that men would be
more interested to watch our film.
In order to enjoy our opening sequence, our audience needed to experience
parts of a thriller such as scenes which both challenge and conform to a thriller
film, scenes that will make the audience think due to the mystery and most
importantly to keep them interested. Therefore, this is why we chose to place
the age rating at 15 as we feel we needed an audience that would be mature and
not get easily distracted.
