5. HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR
AUDIENCE?
 In our two-minute opening to our thriller film, “Torment” we had
tried to appeal to a certain target audience, which is important for
the beginning of the film which we had participated in as a group.
To make sure that the audience was captivated by our thriller
opening, we had to make sure that we met the needs of the
audience. We made sure that our thriller was based on our target
audience which ranged from 16-40 with an age rating of 15, this
is because we wanted to show that although the film being
restricted to younger years is limiting , it appeals to an older
audience which could relate the story line to everyday activities.
When we had figured out what range our target audience was
going to be, we had to think of different aspects of thrillers that
would attract them . Therefore making them interested in the film
and willing to recommend it to other people to watch so would
gain a wider audience range.
 There is an emphasis on the female protagonist as she is
the main character which the target audience will relate
to. We had made a female the main protagonist because
it shows that everyone is strong in many ways, the female
also shows the ordinary life of the character but also the
secret life that she leads. We had thought that it would be
a good idea to have a female protagonist, as many
females have insecurities and depend on their looks to do
the talking for them. Our female protagonist goes against
this and shows that being natural and different to others
can be important and that can make you strong. This
relates to the storyline of our thriller opening and going
against stereotypical ideals.
The music we had decided to use is eerie
and makes the opening scene seem sinister.
It is also an juxtaposition to the opening
scene has it has natural lighting which shows
a different aspect to the film, however it
correlates to the dark isolated setting of an
warehouse where a interrogation is
happening, so it appears to give away the
storyline but allowing the audience never to
guess what is going to happen.
 The key moments that would attract our target
audience to our film is; why the person in the
chair is being interrogated, and who the person
on the bridge is. The audience would be filled
with suspense and mystery, as the enigma that
is in the story means that they are questioning
everything that is going to happen. The over the
shoulder shot of intimidating the person shows
the aggressive nature of the female protagonist.
The audience also gets to see the prisoners’
reaction and also the impact that he has on her,
therefore making the audience drawn to the
mystery of the prisoner.
