1. Classification of Institutions.
Educational Institutions are divided into two main classes – Public and Private.
1.1. Public Institutions are of two classes: -
1. Those under the
I. Management of Government namely Government School.
II. Those schools run under the BOG namely District / Divisional Public
School, Cadet Colleges.
III. Those schools under the Local Government/ Municipal Corporation/City
District, namely LDA Schools, City District Government Schools.
IV. Those schools run under the Federally Departments namely Railway
schools, WAPDA schools.
V. Those schools run under the Defense namely APSC, Lahore Garrison
Schools.
2. Those under the management of Private persons or Associations known as
institutions under private management namely Defense Public School, Federal
Government Institutions Cantt Garrisons. Fazia Schools and Collages.
Public institutions under private management are classified into aided and unaided
according as they do or do not receive aid from public fund.
1.2. Private Institutions are of two classes: -
1. Those under the management of Private persons or Associations known as
institutions under private management namely LGS, CITY Schools Beacon House.
2. Those under the management of Private persons known as institutions under
private management namely Local Schools.

3.1 Key role performed by the DPIs can be listed as following:

2. To assess the needs and requirements of the Educational Institutions and provision of funds,
staff and buildings
3. To assist the government in formulating policies in respect of academics, financial and
administrative matters
4. To act as coordinator between the government and other agencies including the Director
/District Education Officers
5. Maintenance of the career record of teaching staff of Educational Institutions (BPS 17, 18, 19
&20) and preparation of their promotion.
6. Administer Educational Institutions
7. Arrangements for teacher training
8. Registration of private Educational Institutions
9. Conduct of inquiries
10. Settlement of audit paras
11. Technical and administrative inspection of Educational Institutions
12. Inter-district transfers of teaching and non-teaching staff up to BPS 19
13. Sanction of Leave up to maximum of 365 days up to BPS 20, except ex-Pakistan leave
