7. PEER PRESSURE
• Strong influences from people in a group to make
the group members do something
– One of the most difficult aspects of growing up
– Hard to resist
– Easy to persuade
11/16/2022 KCET, Virudhunagar 7
When you feel you’ve to do
something you really might not
choose to do
9. • Good peer pressure is being
pushed into something that you
didn't have the courage to do or
just didn't cross your mind to do.
• Good peer pressure is when you
get pushed into something that
you didn't want to do and it
turned out well. `
11. • Bad peer pressure is being talked into doing something that
you didn't want to do because your friends said that you
should
• Bad peer pressure is usually the result of wanting to be
accepted by your peers
12. • The key to dealing with negative peer pressure is self-
confidence
• Be yourself, make your own decisions, regardless of what
others think
• Learn to feel comfortable saying "no”
• Hang with people who feel the same way you do
• If a situation seems dangerous, don't hesitate to get an
adult's help
13. REASONS BEHIND PEER PRESSURE
Ignorance
11/16/2022 KCET, Virudhunagar 13
Loss of self esteem
Fear
17. HOW TO AVOID PEER PRESSURE?
11/16/2022 KCET, Virudhunagar 17
Make a joke in
order to avoid
change the topic
Choose between
right and wrong
Walk away
Ignore such
things
18. • If you've never taken steps to improve
your wardrobe, you may not realise the
dramatic effect it can have on your
confidence levels
• When you don't look good, it affects the
way you carry yourself and interact
• When how you appear is in sync with how
you want people to view you, confidence
can easily follow
19. • When we think negatively about
ourselves, we often project that
feeling on to others in the form of
insults and gossip.
• To break this cycle of negativity, get
in the habit of praising others.
• Make an effort to praise and
compliment, in the process you will
be appreciated and become well liked
and in the process build self
confidence.
20. • Most people prefer the back because they're
afraid of being noticed.
• By deciding to sit in the front row, you can get
over this irrational fear and build your self
confidence.
• You'll also be more visible to the key people
talking from the front of the room.
21. • During group discussions some people never
speak up because they're afraid that others
will judge them for saying something stupid.
• By making an effort to speak up at least
once in every group discussion you'll become
a better public speaker and more confident
in your own thoughts.
