This document discusses the zero conditional, which is used to describe situations where the result will always occur if a specific condition is met. The zero conditional uses two present simple verbs, with the "if clause" describing the condition and the "main clause" describing the result. Some examples given are "If I study hard, I always get good marks" and "If water is heated, it boils." The document also notes that the order of the clauses can be reversed without changing the meaning.
1. Zero Conditional
We can make a zero conditional sentence with two Present Simple verbs (one in the 'if
clause' and one in the 'main clause'):
If/When + person + present simple verb + , + person + present simple verb + compl.
This conditional is used when the result will always happen. So, if I study hard, I always
get good marks. It's a fact. I'm talking in general, not about one particular situation. The
result of the 'if clause' is always the main clause.
Don't forget we can turn down the statements, and start with the main clause and finish
with the if clause.
If/When I study hard, I get good marks = I get good marks if/when I study hard.
