Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger
Catcher in the Rye is one of the most famous books in American literature. Written by J. D. Salinger, it
captures the epitome of adolescence through Salinger s infamous anti hero, Holden Caulfield. Holden
Caulfield learns about himself and his negative tendencies, and realizes that if he does not do
something to change his perspective, he may end up like his acquaintance James Castle whom he met
at Elkton Hills. Holden tries to find help to mend his outlook on life through Mr. Antolini so he does
not end up like James, who did not want to face the problems he created for himself. This is proven by
the similarities between James Castle and Holden, Mr. Antolini s willingness to try and help Holden,
and Holden s future being forecasted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While talking to Holden, Mr. Antolini says, This fall I think you re riding for it s a special kind of fall,
a horrible kind. The man permitted isn t allowed to feel or hear himself hit bottom (187). Mr. Antolini
is implying that Holden will not realize when he has reached an all time low. Mr. Antolini is also
implying that somehow if Holden keeps going on this downward path down, he could possibly even
end up dead as well, however that might happen. Mr. Antolini is trying to warn him of this fall and try
to help him, before he hits the ground. Mr. Antolini was not able catch James Castle and is trying to
make sure the same thing does not happen to Holden. Mr. Antolini says to Holden, So they gave up
looking. They gave it up before they ever really even got started (187). Mr. Antolini is telling Holden
that he has not hit the bottom of his fall yet. He still has time left to turn his life around before it is too
late. James Castle jumped out the window and gave up on life, even though it did not have to be the
end. In Catcher in the Rye, Phoebe makes Holden realize that he must change his ways in order
prevent himself from creating a motif of James life. When Holden visits Phoebe, she figures out that
Holden got kicked out of Pencey, and all she kept saying was, Daddy s gonna kill you (165). Phoebe is
genuinely concerned for her brother, and tries to help him. Even though she does not

What Is The Meaning Of Act Of Union By Seamus Heaney
In my essay I am going to analyze Seamus Heaney s poem, Act of Union. I guess it is important to
know the background of the author in order to understand the poem. Seamus Heaney was one of the
major poets of the 20th century. He was from Northern Ireland. His upbringing made a great impact
on his poetry, as his most common topic was Ireland, and how English rule ruined its culture, and its
language. He wrote the poem during the Troubles, the conflict in Northern Ireland which lasted from
1968 till 1998, and in which over 3600 people were killed.
Despite that he was against the English overrule, he wrote his poems in English, probably because
English is the more common language, and he wanted his poems to be known by as many people as
possible. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This makes the poem a rhythmical. There are lots of alliterations as well, for example: boom burst . In
the text, there are many words that express some kind of motion. Such words are: movement, pulse,
slip, break open, and burst. These words build up suspense and tension, along with words like
wardrums which suggest that Ireland is about to do something, that something is about to happen.
There is the possibility of Ireland getting strong again to fight against England: His heart beneath your
heart is a wardrum / Mustering force. It is also describes that the woman, Ireland, is pregnant. This
child could be Northern Ireland. From England s perspective, it is described as parasitical and ignorant
. Then he writes: The act sprouted an obsinate fifth column . A fifth colum is a traitor, and in this case
it refers to political problems in Ulster, and that Northern Ireland is turning against England.
It is interesting that the child is a male. Therefore, he does not have his mother s weakness, he is a
worthy opponent of England. ...Beat at your borders, and I know they cocked / At me across the water.
With these lines, he could refer to that the child (Northern Ireland) aims at England, but he actually
hurts the mother

The Effect Of Ionizing Radiation And Microgravity On Human...
Previous Research and Scholarly Productivity Ricardo Romo Previous Undergraduate Research. As an
undergraduate at Southern Arkansas University I assisted in various research projects. I explored the
effects of gamma rays on HUVEC (Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cell) cells, assembly of a
Cartesian robot, and theoretically calculated thermal convections for my dorm. As a Research
Experience for Undergraduates (REU) student at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences

He handed over an honors project where I theoretically calculated the heat convection from window
panes around the dorm buildings. These calculations showed that energy was being wasted due to the
convection around the window glass. To mitigate the heat waste, we ordered new window seals and
more power/heat efficient light bulbs.
Previous/current Graduate Research. Entering graduate school I expanded my interest with the
electricomagnetic spectrum in the nanoscale by researching topics such as: computational simulations
of nanoantenna (NA), desalination via dielectric breakdown, and hydrogen evolution reactions (HER).
Metallic gold (Au) nanoantenna onto two dimensional (2 D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs)
exhibit extraordinary optical properties that allow nanoscale energy modulation. A localized surface
plasmon resonance (LSPR) emerges when incident electromagnetic energy excites the conduction
electrons, causing them to oscillate coherently on the surface of the NA at a resonant wavelength. The
LSPR energy is dissipated into the environment via re radiation, electron phonon (lattice vibration)
and subsequent phonon phonon coupling, causing a rise in local thermal energy, and hot electron
transfer. Therefore projects such as dimers, nanorods and prisms have become of my interest for they
have an electric near field that enhances the surface plasmon resonance to 2 dimensional materials for
(TMDs). Conversations with my advisor are ideal when it comes to

How To Replace Your Roof
Is your roof starting to show its age? Are you wondering whether it s time to replace your roof or if
you can get by with a simple repair? Although you should ask a roofing professional about your roof
in particular, here are some different issues and what they might mean for your roof: Missing shingles:
It s almost inevitable that your roof will start to loose shingles as it ages. When a large storm blows
through, it shouldn t be too big a surprise if you find that one or more shingles have gone missing as a
result. If it s just a few shingles from a small section of your roof, then roofing repair may still be a
good option for you. But if your roof has lost a several shingles from all across your roof, it may be
time to replace the whole thing. Each shingle that falls off means that any or all the six or eight
shingles around it may also need to be replaced during the course of the repair. If it looks like you may
have to pull up a significant portion your roof in order to replace the damaged shingles, pulling up the
whole roof and replacing it may actually end up costing less than the repair. ... Show more content on

While this may be true, it may also be that your roof flashing has gone bad. The flashing on your roof
is strips of metal that get nailed down underneath the shingles. It goes in your roof valleys, on the
peaks and around any vents and helps prevent water from entering your home. When the flashing gets
reused, instead of replaced, it can be all but impossible to use the exact same nail holes as before. As a
result, water may eventually start to leak into your home. Fortunately, this roof repair is rather simple
and should only require a small portion of your shingles to be temporarily removed so that the flashing
can be replaced

The Negative Effects Of Television And Video Game Violence
On average, an American encounters approximately 200,000 violent acts before the age of eighteen.
However, these exposures do not influence an individual to exhibit violence. Concerns regarding
whether television and video game brutality has a negative effect on the public by promoting cruelty,
dates back to the 1950 s and is still prevalent today. Studies and research conducted on the issue are
unable to prove that the two variables have any correlation to each other. In fact, statistics demonstrate
how the amount of violent crimes has decreased significantly throughout time, despite the growing
video game popularity. Lastly, in society, people look for anything to transfer the blame, especially in
regards to a situation that may threaten an individual s community. As a matter of fact, by reviewing
the extensive research the conclusion was drawn stating, exposure has no effect on barbarity.
Therefore, television and video game ferocity does not have a negative effect on the population.
Studies and research conducted on the issue is irrelevant. Specifically, the studies conducted fail to
assess accurate information essential in the process of proving cause and effect. Not to mention,
previous studies that revealed a link between the two factors only focused on short term effects and
did not take other factors into account. In reality, children get riled up over images they may see and
are likely to act out for a short period of time. However, this does not prove overall

Vivian Bearing Character Analysis

She goes through eight cycles of an aggressive experimental chemotherapy. While this aggressive
chemotherapy will not cure her, she is able to provide much needed research in this specific cancer

When asked to evaluate each character from this play and if they are good or not is very challenging.
When dealing with someone with a terminal illness, people definitely act differently. E.M. Ashford is

being treated so she can understand better as to what is going on. While she may come off as stand
offish, she has a really good meaning at heart. Teachers today don t get paid near as much as they
should, having to deal with all the students problems as well as trying to educate them and deal with
your own problems is very tough. She wants to leave an impression on every student she teaches and
she has to contemplate that question in her head as she s being treated. Will she be remembered as
being a good professor and a good mentor like Ashford was to her? She comes off as not scared and
braces the cancer with a tough face, but as the play goes on you can tell she s scared to pass away and
was just hiding behind her wit and knowledge, because that s what she does. She has to make tough
decisions throughout the play and had to think about what she wanted in life. She decided to sign a
DNR or do not resuscitate because she knew the cancer was going to get her anyway and wanted the
suffering to end. She is a good character because she has a big heart to see herself grow and others as

Seeing With The Eyes Or The Brain
Seeing with the eyes or the brain: What goes wrong in common eye conditions?
There are many parts of the eye which work in unison in order to detect certain stimuli. For example,
the photoreceptors are split into two categories; the rods and the cones (named due to the shape of the
cell). In the retina there are 120 million rods that help your eyes to adjust to dimly lit images or, in
other words, allow you to see better in dark places. They are also highly sensitive in comparison to
cones and have a slow recovery from working in such conditions.
In contrast, the cones are located in the fovea and, although there are less cones than rods (only 6
million), they take up the majority of the central fovea. The cones detect a very different stimulus to
the rods as their primary function is to detect different colours in the images observed by the eyes. It
does this by using a protein named photopsin whereas the rods use rhodopsin. The cones also are also
a lot less sensitive than the rods and have a shorter integration time (faster recovery from conditions in
which they are needed to work).
Another main part of the eye which helps us to detect stimuli is the lens. The main function of the lens
is to focus light onto the retina so that it can send electrical impulses to the brain and it can make sense
of what it is seeing. Moreover, the pupil and the cornea both work together to allow the light to enter
the eye whereas the iris controls how much light enters the eye by changes

With the final note of the song I was proud of how good I had played my first unplanned solo. I set my
Tenor Saxophone to the side and listened to the 5th Grade cheer at the beautiful music that had been

and I had decided to make everything go down the drain for my first unplanned solo in band. This
story has no real resolution for the teary eyed 6th grade me sitting in her section holding her
instrument shamefully.
It all began on a not so warm afternoon in March. After leaving one of my favorite classes, Science
and I rushed to 5th hour Band class to put my Tenor Sax together. I heard the talk of who was better at
one subject or better at playing their saxophone (and the normal ear piercing playing) of Alto Sax
players in the band storage room. Rolling my eyes a little and giving a small laugh to the small (yet
loud) talk, I headed to my seat in between two other Tenor Sax players named Brogan and Austin. Our
band director, Mr. Zielinski walked into the band room, giving the usual instructions about being quiet
and smiled.

Trump V. Hilary Case Study
Trump v. Hilary: Finding Clarity in the Chaos As a barely twenty year old junior at a sheltered private
college, I have to confess that it s been very hard to conceptualize and realize the severity of the 2016
election. What started off as a race of what seemed like a million different candidates, the polls
quickly zoned in on two candidates we could ve never predicted to be the voting citizens final choice.
It s both overwhelming, and simple, deceitful, and truthful this election seems to be full of
contradictions and half truths, and the opaque nature of a once seemingly transparent media
complicates matters further in an election that seems convoluted even on paper. Along with the
legislative branch, the media itself has turned into a monster we never thought we d have to wrangle.

motives behind these conscious, deliberate decisions vary greatly, but the results are always interesting

Online Graduate Programs Essay
Online Graduate Programs
Over the past few years there has been a significant increase in the number of students enrolled in
online graduate programs. Before online graduate programs existed, an undergraduate student could
only receive a graduate degree if they physically attended a university. However, with the
improvements in technology, students can now receive a graduate degree from their home by simply
attending lectures online, and submitting their work through email to the professor. Although there are
conflicting ideas about whether or not a student can retain the same amount of information from an
online program as opposed to attending a graduate school, research shows that online graduate
programs are equally as effective as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This differs from the classroom where there may be several questions at one time in which the

An example of the effectiveness of online learning may be seen through a recent study conducted by
the Test of Understanding College Economics. The study indicated, students who select into the online
classes perform better than they would in a face to face class (Coates, 2004, p. 533). Therefore, it has
been proven that there is no significant difference in the material learned in online graduate programs
as opposed to graduate schools. These studies show that for some people, online graduate programs
provide a better learning atmosphere than graduate schools. Therefore, online graduate programs are
better suited for some people.
In addition to being able to actively communicate with your professor online, students are able to
work at their own pace. For online graduate programs, an assignment will be given, and the student
has to turn it in before the deadline. Students do not have to worry about what time they work on the
assignment as long as it is turned in on the date it was requested. This is beneficial for people who are
trying to manage a job and attend school at the same time. Since many people have to pay for graduate
school themselves, they are often forced to work full time. Due to this, there are often scheduling
conflicts between work and graduate school. Students who attend graduate school

These early settlers paved the way for the culture and way of life that still thrives in these mountains.
Being only able to appropriately live in the middle himalaya to the plateau range during prehistoric

The Perception Of Social Behavior In Bartleby, The Scrivener
In Bartleby, The Scrivener, Bartleby serves as the main character with his distinct nature that everyone
is trying to decipher. Despite the attention around Bartleby, much of the story also revolves around the
narrator, the lawyer, who tells the story through his perspective; this implies that the lawyer s ideology
and perception of societal norms shape the interactions between the lawyer and Bartleby but also how
the story is told. Take for example, if the lawyer disregards Bartleby and fires him on the spot, this
story would have ended rather quickly and been much different than it actually is. With this said, the
lawyer s peculiar attraction to Bartleby s strange behavior can be explained by the lawyer s innate
ideas of social norms and instruction that stems from the behavior of the other scriveners and his own
experiences. Bartleby s behavior is considered a deviation from the norm because of the conforming
behaviors of the other scriveners, Turkey, Nippers and Ginger Nut. As scriveners, they listen to their
employer, the lawyer, and do as they were told. Their actions and reactions build the idea of society
and how a scrivener should behave. Turkey is a short, pursy Englishman that is not far from sixty
years old who drinks on the job which makes his work in the afternoon ineffective. Nippers is an

The Garbage Of Trash Garbage
Community Trash Pickup Trash, also known as litter is a very big concern everywhere in the world.
Litter is nothing but a piece of waste or rubbish that has been disposed improperly, without consent
and at wrong location. Littering simply means throwing away objects on the ground or leaving them
lying on the ground instead of disposing them at garbage can, recycling bin or trash container. (What
is Litter? ) It is very concerning that there are only a few people who would like to make a change
within their own community. The trash laying alongside the highways is very distracting, it makes you
want to stop and pick it up. Many people who feel such a way decide that they need to come up with a
plan that could get their community involved. The environment that we live in needs to be treated
better, if only humans could take a second look at what it actually does look like. There are so many
ideas and ways trash could be taken care of instead of just being disposed alongside the highways, on
the streets, or anywhere else it does not belong besides in a garbage can. It is very disappointing that
many people do not even care at all that the mother earth is very trashy. However, there are a few good
people out there who take their time to keep their community looking nice and clean. It is surprising
when you do notice the few places that you travel by are clean. Some ways that a community can get
motivated in trash pickup would be to start off with your friends who

fought for us in the civil war, yet there were no medical attempts to save lives, made Dunant organize
local people to help wounded soldiers. The locals helped with wounded soldiers by feeding, and
comforting them when in need. In October 1868 the International Red Cross Movement was created in

Finally, you will understand the symbolism of the red convertible and the link it has between both
brothers. One important element that has a powerful lesson in the story is the road trip. While Lyman

Years by Fumiko Enchi
What is the impact of the male characters treatment of women towards a western female audience?
In the novels Scarlet Song by Mariama Ba and The Waiting Years by Fumiko Enchi we as readers are
able to experience the way in which the male characters treat the female characters of the novel.
Women in present time are able to sympathize with these women because the way in which the men
treat them leaves a very strong and negative impression and ambiance. It is true that different women

Tomo finds a mistress and sends a photograph of her to her husband. After Shirakawa approves her,
Tomo has a terrible nightmare that she kills him, and wakes up screaming. This conveys her hidden
anguish and feelings which she has to oppress for her husband s sake. The mistress, Suga, is just a
little girl who feels unhappy in possession of a stranger. During the beginning of their relationship
Shirakawa spends a lot of money on buying Suga clothes as a way of soothing her, at this time he had
not made any physical advances towards her. This gives us the impression that the men in this culture
would do anything for woman to win their hearts, than later demand things from them and expect
them to obey commands, To clothe a girl from a poor family in the most luxurious garments possible
was in itself almost certainly a means of winning Suga s heart (Enchi, 42). Tomo continues to suffer
from terrible nightmares due to her intense jealousy and upset about her husband s various escapades.
Another situation that takes place in the book would be the conflict that occurs between Miya and
Michimasa. Miya runs to Tomo who is Michimasa s mother and complains to her about what had
happened. Michimasa tried to force Miya into having sex with him and she refused to, therefore, he

How Does Dickens Present The Portrayal Of Victorian Women
In a male dominated world, does the role of women even matter? In the Victorian era, women were
expected to be innocent, loving, and interested in their husbands business or other affiliations. In
Charles Dickens Hard Times, he portrays the Victorian society s realistic and unrealistic views of an
ideal Victorian woman in a maledominated world. Through the portrayal of his female characters,
Dickens shows the lack of morality people had during this time period, as well as emphasizing how an
ideal Victorian woman should act. Dickens example of an idealistic Victorian woman is Sissy Jupe,
while her contrast is Mrs. Sparsit. Louisa s character however, shows the change from a nonidealistic
to an idealistic Victorian woman. The several female characters compare and contrast with each other
throughout the novel and provide evidence of which type of woman they are, as well as how they are
ultimately rewarded or punished. Sissy Jupe exemplifies the ideal Victorian woman in a
maledominated Coketown. Throughout the novel, Sissy remains a compassionate, realistic, and
nurturing young woman. As a child, Sissy does not succumb to the system of facts introduced to her
by Mr. Gradgrind. She struggles with concepts such as arithmetic or living objectively. She shares her
failures at school with Louisa who comforts her with, You are more useful to my mother, and more
pleasant with yourself than I am to myself (Dickens 55). This comment expresses how Sissy is
realistic since her

Jam Concert Review
A quiet little house on a University campus that has 3 boys and 6 girls encompassing it. All three boys

was invited to go watch one of their jam sessions that took place in the past couple weeks for this
project and to learn more about music from the musicians themselves. What makes this something out
of my comfort zone? Why did I choose this venue or music type for this project? When I think of live
music, I do not think of jam sessions, in fact I have never been to a jam session. I often find it far to
intimate and uncomfortable because the performer can usually touch you with their foot in the space

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD)
Brain disorders are categorized as major health conditions based on the fact that the brain is the
control center of the body. Brain disorders come in many forms and at times are difficult to diagnose
based on their complexity. A very rare degenerately unchangeable brain disorder of the central nervous
system is Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (CJD). Creutzfeldt Jakob disease affects one person in a million
within a population that is worldwide (Llorens et al., 2015). The USA is known to have two hundred
cases of patients diagnosed with Creutzfeldt Jakob disease each year (Llorens et al., 2015). Although
the disease is very rare, it is very deadly because after onset of symptoms of the disease the patient
usually passes after a year of diagnosis. Most patients develop the disease around their sixties and
typically only have one year left to live (Head et al., 2009). CJD can be categorized etiologically as
sporadic, infectious, and inherited neurodegenerative disorder due to the misfolded proteins making it
very unique. Symptoms in clinical trials of CJD have consisted of rapid onset of progressive dementia,
involuntary muscle contractions, inability to balance, cognitive impairment and visual deterioration
(Gozke et al., 2008). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pain alleviation along with suppression of other symptoms are priority w/ selection of the proper drug
to aid the patient. None of the selected treatments have been conclusively shown to slow or halt the
disease process. Sodium valproate is often administered to patient with CJD. Sodium valproate issues
its effectiveness in that it reduced cortical myoclonus, or irregular short duration jerks and seizures in
patients with the disease (Vetrugno et al, 2014). Reduction is achieved when because the sodium
valproate poses as an agent that increases cortical gamma amino butyric acid. Typically, patients
display a response when administered a dose between 1 and 2.5 grams. For psychiatric symptoms of
CJD, patients are prescribed Quetiapine. This particular drug has the ability to block 5HT1 and 5HT2
receptors, leaving adrenergic and H1 receptors more exposed (Vetrugno et al, 2014) 5HT1 and 2
receptors which stand for 5 hydroxytryptamine are G protein coupled. These receptors are specifically
responsible for binding w/ the neurotransmitter serotonin. With Quetiapine, sides effect similar to
Parkinson s are less prevalent in patients. With pains symptoms, drugs such as Gabapentin and
amitriptyline has proven to be effective. Pain in patients with CJD often occur in the thalamic origin,

Juvenile Delinquency In The US
Introduction
It is believed that children are the products of their environment. With their brains often compared to
sponges, children tend to mimic the language and the actions of those around them, and absorb those
things into their memory. (Briggs, Grella, Allen Burton, Yarmuth, Taylor, 2012) There are many
studies on the causes of juvenile delinquency, but there is much debate as to who and what is
considered the primary factors of influence. This topic is important because juvenile delinquency
continues to be a huge problem in the U.S; in 2012 alone, there was approximately 1,319,700 juvenile
arrests (Puzzenchera, 2014). The primary group in this research are those adolescents who live inner
cities and reside in low income based neighborhoods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inner city neighborhood itself is primarily the reason as to why both delinquency and dropping
out occurs consecutively. According to the current study done by Seijeoung, Maaza, Zwanziger, and
Henry (2014), children (unlike their high income counterparts) living low income based neighbors are
more inclined to have a bad academic performance in school, may act on impulse and exhibit negative
behavioral problems. Lower levels of school performance could be due to environmental factors such
as home and the neighborhood as an added stress especially for impoverished neighborhoods
(Seijeoung et al, 2014). Lower grades then gives youth a reason to drop out and give up. It is almost as
though one thing enables another. In order to understand how outside factors such as the low income
neighborhood can lead to delinquency and school delinquency, one needs to know the people, and
activities that are involved with the

Persuasive Techniques Used in Poetry Essay
Persuasive Techniques Used in Poetry
Compare the persuasive techniques used in the poems. Say which poems you feel are the most
effective and Why?
Persuading poets have been writing poems on love, lust and nature since the beginning of time. The 7
poems that are analysed here range from the 16th 19th centuries.
These poems are all written by men arguing and persuading the effects of love.
In To virgins , it appears that Robert Herrick uses small amounts of natural imagery to persuade
virgins and to stress the fast passing of time. He begins with a time threatening statement urging the
virgins to
gather ye rosebuds while ye may he then adds
This same flower that smiled today tomorrow will be dying .

He ends the fourth stanza with a negative mood by using you may forever tarry .
This phrase means that for the rest of your life you will suffer with loneliness if you don t follow his
commands.
Herrick s poem is in an ordered structure and has an alternate rhyming rhythm that makes the poem
more commanding. The lack of imagery in this poem gives it a more uneasy and blunt mood. The pace
of the rhythm in this poem is quick which links in with the expressing of fast time and adds to the
effect of a threatening poem.
This poem suggests to me that maybe he is desperate so he uses the persuasion accordingly.
This poem compares well to Of Beauty by Richard Fanshawe because both of the poems are in an
ordering mood and have a positive and negative part of the stanza s.
It also compares well to To his coy mistress by Andrew Marvell. Both of the poems are arguing that
time is running out so let me love you now while we have the time. They both use a lot of time
statements such as long loves day , nearer he s to setting and ten years before . The second poem, Of
Beauty by Richard Fanshawe, is a short, one stanza poem. It uses personification during the middle of
the stanza.
Earth her winter coat may cast, and renew her beauty past .
These uses of personification are to state that winter is a person and her beauty runs out so and so will
yours.
Earth her winter coat may cast .
The imagery that is used in Of Beauty is

Pike
Over the past three seasons we have seen quite some villains on the show. Most of them were grey ish:
they had the right intentions but not the right methods. Think of Diana Sydney, Queen Anya, Dante
Wallace, Queen Nia. There were some less redeemable villains like Cage Wallace and there are a few
that are just downright unlikeable (remember Dr. Lorelei Tsing?). However, Pike takes unlikeable
villains to new dimensions. Nothing that the show has done has made him even a bit likeable. I want
him dead and the sooner he dies, the better it will be. His character comes off as a one dimensional
villain that only cares about killing Grounders. His argument that every Grounder is the same is

Theme Of The Gre s Bride
Axel Olrik s Epic Laws in The Squire s Bride
Originally this folktale was collected by Norwegians Asbjørnsen and Moe. This is a tale about a
woman (ATU 1440) where tenant promises his daughter to his master against her will in this case
father promises his daughter to an old squire. Tale starts with a common tale opening ( There was once
) (Torne Thomsen, 1912). The Axel Olrik s Epic Law of Opening and Closing scene is pretty obvious.
The Squire s Bride doesn t have explicated composition. With few sentences we know that there are
rich squire and poor man s daughter, but we don t get much more details.
The action starts when one day squire sees a girl working in the hayfield and from then on he tries to

important role in the end.
Law of Single Strand and Law of Unity of Plot. Similar to importance of final position it leads to the

ignorant (didn t listen to girl saying no to marriage or lad when he tried to tell him he was dressing up

In this tale we can find quite interesting daughter. She distants herself from any social rules and just
takes care of her own destiny. For freedom she fights quite eccentric (says that she won t marry the
squire even if she buried himself in gold). This also bring us to the point of father s and daughter s
relationship model in the tales. Their patriarchal connection daughter have to fully submit to father s
authority. She usually is shown as object not as a person. As in The Squire s Bride with verbal

A Research Study On Business Research
CHAPTER 3
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
1. Introduction
Business research is considered as a truth seeking function that collects, analyses and reports
information which enables decision makers to become more effective in their decision making
(Alvesson and Deetz, 2000). Conducting primary research is inevitable as far as the aim of this
research is concerned. However it is vital that the right kind of methodology be adopted which helps
the researcher to achieve the research aim properly. In the selection of right methodology, this study
seeks to identify the possible ways by which a research of this nature can be conducted and the
reasons behind the selection of particular philosophy, methods, data collection, sampling and analysis
techniques.
1.2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This in fact enabled the researcher to select the philosophy which best suits to achieve the research
aim. Saunders et al. (2000) state that two views pertaining to philosophy dominate the literature. They
are positivism and phenomenology. They add that both of the philosophies are important as far as
business and management research is concerned. It can be found that Saunders et al. (2009) divided
the research philosophy into different clusters. They are positivism, interpretivism, pragmatism and
realism.
1.2.1 Positivism
The positivistic approach is the traditional approach of the natural scientist. This approach is
considered as independent and also objective where research is undertaken in a value freeway and
only the observable phenomena provide credible data (Saunders et al. 2009). Therefore in positivistic
research the influence of the researcher on research is kept at the minimum possible way and the
instruments and methods used for this should be enabling the researcher in this regard. The
methodological underpinning of survey research and experimental studies is positivism. Scientific
rigour of doing research is thus one of the characteristics of positivistic research (Jupp, 2006).
Easterby Smith et al. (2012) state that positivist methods is usually based on the assumption that there
is the presence of true

The Influence of Japanese Migration in the Peru
When Japanese first emigrated to Peru, they were called Nikkeijin which means Japanese people.

Kellogg s Case Study
Question One:
There are three key sectors of the supply chain, namely; primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. The
former encompasses all processes and activities geared towards transforming natural resources into
primary products which are then to be used in manufacturing finished products (Choi, 2011). For
instance, the forestry industry falls under the primary sector bearing in mind the fact that it focuses on
transforming a natural resource, i.e. trees, into a primary product (timber).
On the other hand, the secondary sector is concerned with transforming the primary products
generated from the primary sector into finished products. For instance, Kellogg s is a ... Show more

This gives a candid explanation as to why Kellogg s entered into an agreement with Tesco meant to
allow its products to continue being displayed in the latter s stores. Kellogg s collaboration with
tertiary sector entities can also be attributed to its allure in ensuring it continues to purport successful
business activities. For instance, maintaining good relationships with banks makes it possible for the
entity to acquire additional funds to finance its operations or investment activities (Leeman, 2010).
Question Four: The major benefit that can be realized from the decision of large manufactures like
Kellogg s to outsource some its activities to specialist companies like TDG is that of making the
former s supply chain and distribution channels to become more efficient. The achievement of this
objective is usually facilitated through the emphasis of these specialist entities to employ
computerized systems while purporting stock handling and logistic functions for their clients, with this
enhancing the timely and cost efficient delivery of stock in the larger manufacturers retail stores
(Choi, 2011). Moreover, these specialists assist larger firms such as Kellogg s to minimize the
wastages which normally occur within their supply chains, more so through streamlining their
transportation, distribution and storage systems (Leeman,

Yet, she is capable of manipulation and adept at spinning lies as clearly evidenced by her constant lies
about a Mr. Shep Huntleigh, who does not really exist, or her lies about being on a leave of absence.
This is also clear based on her manipulation of Mitch, played by Karl Malden, into making him fall
for her or her emotional manipulation of Stella. Beneath this façade, Blanche seems to be terrified of
losing control and terrified of reality. She spends a lot of the play and film sneaking drinks so that she
can calm her nerves and one could even argue that her manipulation is simply her creating a reality
that she doesn t have to be so afraid of.
Blanche struggles to maintain her glamorous façade and here in lies her greatest conflict; keeping up
with her lies and not mixing reality and fantasy Blanche fails to discern between reality and fantasy
and gets caught in her lies. She can never quite get her story straight Blanche struggles to maintain
some semblance of control in her life after she seems to have lost so much of it in the

The Importance Of The Women s Rights Movement
Women have waged war for equal rights for over 150 years. Although women had won many battles
in the United States during that time, the 1960 s proved to be the period when the movements greatest
advances would come to fruition. The birth control pill was introduced in 1960, and in 1964 Title VII
of The Civil Rights Act passed which prohibited discrimination in employment based on a person s
sex (U.S. History 884). These two events energized the women s rights movement, and many
significant achievements would follow. The women s rights movement advanced more in 1960 s due
to the birth control pill and the Civil Rights Act than it had in the previous 100 years. One of the
greatest devices in the emancipation of women was the birth control pill. It was approved by the Food
and Drug Administration in 1960 and liberated women by allowing them to restrict, postpone, or
block, pregnancy, and motherhood. According to our textbook. Within five years of the pill s approval,
some six million women were using it (U.S. History 884). The fact that the birth control pill gave
women options never available to them before made it an attractive choice. For the first time, they
could choose to further their education or have a career. As a result, the staggering number of births
also known as the Baby Boomer Generation ended in 1964. Another significant advancement for
women was The Civil Rights Act of 1964. It not only prohibited discrimination by an employer based
on a person s race,

Baseball Has Driven People Together
Throughout Kansas, families of all shapes and sizes can say this is what they love most about their
state. Being one of America s past times, baseball has driven people together. Due to the Royals
winning the World Series, it has become even more popular among kids. They aspire to be like Perez
or Moustakas, wanting to make amazing plays and lead their team to victory. Down at the Blue Valley
Reactional baseball fields, many of these boys can be found. One day on a hot, summer day in Kansas,
these athletes are rushing to the fields, while carrying bags that are as tall and heavy as them. While
settling into their sunflower seed filled dugouts, the sound of metal spikes hitting the cement fills the
air. These kids are ready to shed blood, sweat, and tears in the 100 degree weather that Kansas has
produced. As I am sitting in the stands looking around at the parents near me, it is apparent that
various ones are more serious and competitive then others. Some parents just wear the colors of their
child s team, and others have shirts that actually say the team name. Although they all are quite
different, they have one thing in common. They are willing to suffer the heat filled air to support their
children in their activities. Walking onto the field, the umpire comes announces with his deep, gruff
voice that it is time to start the game, triggering all of the parents to rush onto the bleachers. Listening
to the sounds of bodies hitting the bleachers, they boys rush out of

Reconstruction Dbq
The Reconstruction Era in the United States was a time from 1865 1877 when the government made
the attempt to revitalize the South after the Civil War. This movement was begun by President
Abraham Lincoln and continued after his assassination by his successor, Andrew Johnson. The focus
of this era was on an economic, political, and social level in the South. Numerous bills and acts were
passed throughout the years to assist in strengthening and enforcing rules that would essentially turn
back the clock for the South. Although, at the time, this was thought to be an excellent way to reform
the nation, many disagree and believe it was a failure until World War II and after President Franklin
Roosevelt s New Deal.
Although the Reconstruction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The South s secession lasted 4 years, and Reconstruction brought the Union and Confederacy together
and once again restored what we know as the United States. New and improved laws were put in place
to protect the rights of newly freed men. Freedmen s Bureau and many other smaller associations were
formed. These helped Southerners and African Americans who were in need. For example, they
helped those who were homeless, hungry, and poor. The Compromise of 1877 played a large role in
Reconstruction, stating that the Republicans could vote for another Republican to become a nation
leader, as long as they assisted in rebuilding the South ( Reconstruction ). Another important act that
positively affected the nation was the Enforcement Act of 1870. This act banned the use of terror,
force, or bribery to prevent people from voting because of their race. Overall, it helped reinforce some
of the positive effects of this era (Cas). Possibly the the most important legacies left from the
Reconstruction Era include amendments 13, 14, and 15. Amendment Thirteen abolished slavery
throughout the nation. Amendment Fourteen defined citizenship and gave all citizens of America
equal protection. Lastly is the Fifteenth Amendment, which gave the right to vote with no
discrimination against race or color. Clearly, there were many lasting legacies from this era that are
still observed

A Christmas Memory In Truman Capote s Last Christmas With...
A Christmas Memory is an eloquently written account of Truman Capotes last Christmas with his dear
friend, Sook. The story is set during 1930 s, right after the depression, in a rural Southern part of
Alabama. Capote recalls his last Christmas with Sook, who is a sixty something year old woman who
has childlike tendencies. Sook refers to Capote as, Buddy, throughout the story as that was her
childhood best friend who passed away. Buddy and Sook share a home with other relatives who
throughout the story, berate them with harsh words and are overall unkind. But, the relatives
unknowingly strengthen their bond and aid in forging an unbreakable friendship between the two.
Capote manages to pen a captivating memoir of his last Christmas with Sook using an engaging
writing style with an enthralling use of vivid language.
One of the ways Capote captivates his readers is by way of vivid language to make us feel joyful,
giddy and excited. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware; we
giggle: as if unseen hands were tickling us (23). Notably, Capote uses this quote to invoke a feeling of
a gleeful dance as the shadows perform a velvety dance alongside them. The way this passage is
composed gives the reader a sense of silliness as we imagine the auditory impulsively of loud singing.
His whimsical language is taken a step further with his use of ...unseen hands were tickling us (23), as
it makes the reader visualize being tickled until they are out of

Relationships In Pride And Prejudice
Marriage is often thought of as a union between two people; a promise that is supposed to last a life
time. In today s world, reality reigns. Marriage is often broken, or held together due to legality. A
promise does not mean the same as it did in yester year. Despite this ugly truth, young men and
women still dream of the time when they will say I do before their family and friends. However, often
times we as young people get mired in the process of finding a mate, rather than enjoying the
company of others. Whether it is for political or religious reasons, relationships have the potential to
get mucked up. Luckily for today s generation, one person has witnessed this, and wrote about this
process in her novels. This woman s name is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elizabeth continually allows for mishaps to happen, even rejecting the incredibly wealthy and
handsome Mr. Darcy. This seems to be Elizabeth s way of showing that she, as a woman, has a form
of power that men cannot take away; the power of saying no. Austen reveals this in chapter 34 when
Darcy declares his love for Elizabeth. How he does it, though, is peculiar. He proclaims his love
boisterously, yet in private with Elizabeth. Darcy tactfully reveals his feelings for her, hoping that she
will be moved and not falter now that they are alone. In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My
feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.
(Austen ch. 34) Here, Darcy vocally forces himself on her, believing that his passion will invoke a
flare within Elizabeth to say yes. Much to Darcy s disappointment, Elizabeth rejects him, only to
accept him later. I view her actions as being suitable for her circumstance. She rejects his offer,
because she does not passionately have feelings for him. She, later, accepts Darcy when she does in
fact have feelings for him. This is an empowering story for the women of Austen s time. Many readers
would ask why Austen would do this. I believe that Austen I empowering young women to stand for
what they want and what they believe. When this novel was written, women s rights were abysmal;

Legalization of Medical Marijuana
In April of 1998, the Green Party released an official statement supporting medicinal marijuana
stating, We support the legal reclassification of marijuana to allow its availability in the medical
treatment of serious illnesses. We oppose the harassment and prosecution of patients, providers, and
physicians who respectively use, provide, or recommend marijuana for the medical treatment of
serious illnesses. In 1972 the US Congress placed marijuana in Schedule I of the Controlled
Substances Act because they considered it to have no accepted medical use. (5) Proponents of medical
marijuana argue that it can be a safe and effective treatment for the symptoms of cancer, AIDS,
multiple sclerosis, pain, glaucoma, epilepsy, and other conditions. Opposers of medicinal marijuana
argue of harmful side effects, learning disabilities and potential drug abuse.

What can be treated with medicinal cannabis?
There are many illnesses that can be treated by medicinal marijuana. In cases of patients with
glaucoma, it has shown that medicinal marijuana has helped to lessen nerve pressure in the eye. For
cancer patients, marijuana reaches the part of the brain that suppresses pain, stimulates appetite and
combats nausea associated with chemotherapy. Marijuana helps relieves spasms and contractions in
people with multiple sclerosis and prevents seizures of people with epilepsy.

Sprint And T-Mobile Merger Analysis
Many companies in the United States are struggling to survive. These companies are experiencing
significant decreases in revenue, reduced assets, and increases in liabilities. Companies that already
filed, or are at risk for filing bankruptcy are struggling with keeping up with their competitors, causing
the companies to lose their value. When a company files for bankruptcy, the company no longer gets
to make the business decisions. The bankruptcy courts begin to make the decisions for the companies
in efforts to restore the businesses. If the company is unable to revive itself from bankruptcy status,
the company goes out of business. If this occurs, the company must sell everything it owns in order to

Sprint Corporation is still at risk for closing its doors within the next couple of years. If Sprint does

  • 2. Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger Catcher in the Rye is one of the most famous books in American literature. Written by J. D. Salinger, it captures the epitome of adolescence through Salinger s infamous anti hero, Holden Caulfield. Holden Caulfield learns about himself and his negative tendencies, and realizes that if he does not do something to change his perspective, he may end up like his acquaintance James Castle whom he met at Elkton Hills. Holden tries to find help to mend his outlook on life through Mr. Antolini so he does not end up like James, who did not want to face the problems he created for himself. This is proven by the similarities between James Castle and Holden, Mr. Antolini s willingness to try and help Holden, and Holden s future being forecasted by ... Mr. Antolini is also implying that somehow if Holden keeps going on this downward path down, he could possibly even end up dead as well, however that might happen. Mr. Antolini is trying to warn him of this fall and try to help him, before he hits the ground. Mr. Antolini was not able catch James Castle and is trying to make sure the same thing does not happen to Holden. Mr. Antolini says to Holden, So they gave up looking. They gave it up before they ever really even got started (187). Mr. Antolini is telling Holden that he has not hit the bottom of his fall yet. He still has time left to turn his life around before it is too late. James Castle jumped out the window and gave up on life, even though it did not have to be the end. In Catcher in the Rye, Phoebe makes Holden realize that he must change his ways in order prevent himself from creating a motif of James life. When Holden visits Phoebe, she figures out that Holden got kicked out of Pencey, and all she kept saying was, Daddy s gonna kill you (165). • 3. What Is The Meaning Of Act Of Union By Seamus Heaney In my essay I am going to analyze Seamus Heaney s poem, Act of Union. I guess it is important to know the background of the author in order to understand the poem. Seamus Heaney was one of the major poets of the 20th century. He was from Northern Ireland. His upbringing made a great impact on his poetry, as his most common topic was Ireland, and how English rule ruined its culture, and its language. He wrote the poem during the Troubles, the conflict in Northern Ireland which lasted from 1968 till 1998, and in which over 3600 people were killed. Despite that he was against the English overrule, he wrote his poems in English, probably because English is the more common language, and he wanted his poems to be known by as many people as possible. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This makes the poem a rhythmical. There are lots of alliterations as well, for example: boom burst . In the text, there are many words that express some kind of motion. Such words are: movement, pulse, slip, break open, and burst. Entering graduate school I expanded my interest with the electricomagnetic spectrum in the nanoscale by researching topics such as: computational simulations of nanoantenna (NA), desalination via dielectric breakdown, and hydrogen evolution reactions (HER). Metallic gold (Au) nanoantenna onto two dimensional (2 D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) exhibit extraordinary optical properties that allow nanoscale energy modulation. A localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) emerges when incident electromagnetic energy excites the conduction electrons, causing them to oscillate coherently on the surface of the NA at a resonant wavelength. The LSPR energy is dissipated into the environment via re radiation, electron phonon (lattice vibration) and subsequent phonon phonon coupling, causing a rise in local thermal energy, and hot electron transfer. Therefore projects such as dimers, nanorods and prisms have become of my interest for they have an electric near field that enhances the surface plasmon resonance to 2 dimensional materials for (TMDs). • 5. How To Replace Your Roof Is your roof starting to show its age? Are you wondering whether it s time to replace your roof or if you can get by with a simple repair? Although you should ask a roofing professional about your roof in particular, here are some different issues and what they might mean for your roof: Missing shingles: It s almost inevitable that your roof will start to loose shingles as it ages. When a large storm blows through, it shouldn t be too big a surprise if you find that one or more shingles have gone missing as a result. If it s just a few shingles from a small section of your roof, then roofing repair may still be a good option for you. But if your roof has lost a several shingles from all across your roof, it may be time to replace the whole thing. Each shingle that falls off means that any or all the six or eight shingles around it may also need to be replaced during the course of the repair. If it looks like you may have to pull up a significant portion your roof in order to replace the damaged shingles, pulling up the whole roof and replacing it may actually end up costing less than the repair. ... When the flashing gets reused, instead of replaced, it can be all but impossible to use the exact same nail holes as before. As a result, water may eventually start to leak into your home. • 6. The Negative Effects Of Television And Video Game Violence On average, an American encounters approximately 200,000 violent acts before the age of eighteen. However, these exposures do not influence an individual to exhibit violence. Concerns regarding whether television and video game brutality has a negative effect on the public by promoting cruelty, dates back to the 1950 s and is still prevalent today. Studies and research conducted on the issue are unable to prove that the two variables have any correlation to each other. In fact, statistics demonstrate how the amount of violent crimes has decreased significantly throughout time, despite the growing video game popularity. Lastly, in society, people look for anything to transfer the blame, especially in regards to a situation that may threaten an individual s community. As a matter of fact, by reviewing the extensive research the conclusion was drawn stating, exposure has no effect on barbarity. Therefore, television and video game ferocity does not have a negative effect on the population. Studies and research conducted on the issue is irrelevant. Specifically, the studies conducted fail to assess accurate information essential in the process of proving cause and effect. • 9. Seeing With The Eyes Or The Brain Seeing with the eyes or the brain: What goes wrong in common eye conditions? There are many parts of the eye which work in unison in order to detect certain stimuli. For example, the photoreceptors are split into two categories; the rods and the cones (named due to the shape of the cell). In the retina there are 120 million rods that help your eyes to adjust to dimly lit images or, in other words, allow you to see better in dark places. They are also highly sensitive in comparison to cones and have a slow recovery from working in such conditions. In contrast, the cones are located in the fovea and, although there are less cones than rods (only 6 million), they take up the majority of the central fovea. The cones detect a very different stimulus to the rods as their primary function is to detect different colours in the images observed by the eyes. It does this by using a protein named photopsin whereas the rods use rhodopsin. The cones also are also a lot less sensitive than the rods and have a shorter integration time (faster recovery from conditions in which they are needed to work). Another main part of the eye which helps us to detect stimuli is the lens. The main function of the lens is to focus light onto the retina so that it can send electrical impulses to the brain and it can make sense of what it is seeing. Moreover, the pupil and the cornea both work together to allow the light to enter the eye whereas the iris controls how much light enters the eye by changes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Take for example, if the lawyer disregards Bartleby and fires him on the spot, this story would have ended rather quickly and been much different than it actually is. In the Victorian era, women were expected to be innocent, loving, and interested in their husbands business or other affiliations. In Charles Dickens Hard Times, he portrays the Victorian society s realistic and unrealistic views of an ideal Victorian woman in a maledominated world. Through the portrayal of his female characters, Dickens shows the lack of morality people had during this time period, as well as emphasizing how an ideal Victorian woman should act. Dickens example of an idealistic Victorian woman is Sissy Jupe, while her contrast is Mrs. Sparsit. Louisa s character however, shows the change from a nonidealistic to an idealistic Victorian woman. The several female characters compare and contrast with each other throughout the novel and provide evidence of which type of woman they are, as well as how they are ultimately rewarded or punished. Sissy Jupe exemplifies the ideal Victorian woman in a maledominated Coketown. Throughout the novel, Sissy remains a compassionate, realistic, and nurturing young woman. As a child, Sissy does not succumb to the system of facts introduced to her by Mr. Gradgrind. She struggles with concepts such as arithmetic or living objectively. The USA is known to have two hundred cases of patients diagnosed with Creutzfeldt Jakob disease each year (Llorens et al., 2015). Although the disease is very rare, it is very deadly because after onset of symptoms of the disease the patient usually passes after a year of diagnosis. Most patients develop the disease around their sixties and typically only have one year left to live (Head et al., 2009). CJD can be categorized etiologically as sporadic, infectious, and inherited neurodegenerative disorder due to the misfolded proteins making it very unique. Symptoms in clinical trials of CJD have consisted of rapid onset of progressive dementia, involuntary muscle contractions, inability to balance, cognitive impairment and visual deterioration (Gozke et al., 2008). ... • 26. Juvenile Delinquency In The US Introduction It is believed that children are the products of their environment. With their brains often compared to sponges, children tend to mimic the language and the actions of those around them, and absorb those things into their memory. (Briggs, Grella, Allen Burton, Yarmuth, Taylor, 2012) There are many studies on the causes of juvenile delinquency, but there is much debate as to who and what is considered the primary factors of influence. This topic is important because juvenile delinquency continues to be a huge problem in the U.S; in 2012 alone, there was approximately 1,319,700 juvenile arrests (Puzzenchera, 2014). The inner city neighborhood itself is primarily the reason as to why both delinquency and dropping out occurs consecutively. According to the current study done by Seijeoung, Maaza, Zwanziger, and Henry (2014), children (unlike their high income counterparts) living low income based neighbors are more inclined to have a bad academic performance in school, may act on impulse and exhibit negative behavioral problems. Lower levels of school performance could be due to environmental factors such as home and the neighborhood as an added stress especially for impoverished neighborhoods (Seijeoung et al, 2014). Lower grades then gives youth a reason to drop out and give up. It is almost as though one thing enables another. Persuading poets have been writing poems on love, lust and nature since the beginning of time. The 7 poems that are analysed here range from the 16th 19th centuries. These poems are all written by men arguing and persuading the effects of love. This phrase means that for the rest of your life you will suffer with loneliness if you don t follow his commands. Herrick s poem is in an ordered structure and has an alternate rhyming rhythm that makes the poem more commanding. The lack of imagery in this poem gives it a more uneasy and blunt mood. The pace of the rhythm in this poem is quick which links in with the expressing of fast time and adds to the effect of a threatening poem. This poem suggests to me that maybe he is desperate so he uses the persuasion accordingly. This poem compares well to Of Beauty by Richard Fanshawe because both of the poems are in an ordering mood and have a positive and negative part of the stanza s. It also compares well to To his coy mistress by Andrew Marvell. Both of the poems are arguing that time is running out so let me love you now while we have the time. They both use a lot of time statements such as long loves day , nearer he s to setting and ten years before . The second poem, Of Beauty by Richard Fanshawe, is a short, one stanza poem. It uses personification during the middle of the stanza.

This approach is considered as independent and also objective where research is undertaken in a value freeway and only the observable phenomena provide credible data (Saunders et al. 2009). Therefore in positivistic research the influence of the researcher on research is kept at the minimum possible way and the instruments and methods used for this should be enabling the researcher in this regard. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware; we giggle: as if unseen hands were tickling us (23). Notably, Capote uses this quote to invoke a feeling of a gleeful dance as the shadows perform a velvety dance alongside them. Austen reveals this in chapter 34 when Darcy declares his love for Elizabeth. How he does it, though, is peculiar. He proclaims his love boisterously, yet in private with Elizabeth. Darcy tactfully reveals his feelings for her, hoping that she will be moved and not falter now that they are alone. In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. (Austen ch. 34) Here, Darcy vocally forces himself on her, believing that his passion will invoke a flare within Elizabeth to say yes. Much to Darcy s disappointment, Elizabeth rejects him, only to accept him later. I view her actions as being suitable for her circumstance. She rejects his offer, because she does not passionately have feelings for him. She, later, accepts Darcy when she does in fact have feelings for him. This is an empowering story for the women of Austen s time. Many readers would ask why Austen would do this. I believe that Austen I empowering young women to stand for what they want and what they believe. When this novel was written, women s rights were abysmal; often leading to men taking ...
