Psalm 55 Lessons
Psalm 55 is a pain filled lament from King David to God. King David s closest friend has betrayed
him to his enemies. David expresses all his feelings and wishes for God to punish his friend who
had deceived him. David asked for God s blessings so that he may never be defeated. The lesson
taught in psalm 55 is what to do if you are betrayed by a friend. The psalm instructs us by Davids
example, to pray if we have or are experiencing this.
There are multiples lessons taught in Psalm 55. One of the lessons taught is trusting in God. No
matter what has happened, is happening or will happen, David will look to God for comfort,
protection and guidance. But you, O God, will bring those murderers and liars to their graves
before half their life

Lesson Plan For A Small Group Of Three First Grade,...
LESSON PLAN
CONTEXT
This lesson is designed for a small group of three first grade, classified English language learning
(ELL) students. The students are ages six through eight years old and are in a first grade
classroom. They spend 90% of their time in the regular classroom, and the other 10% outside of
the classroom receiving instruction from the ESOL teacher. All three of these students are female,
two of which are Latino and the other of Arabic descent. Only one of the Latino girls was born
outside of the United States, and the other two students were U.S. born. They attend Andrew
Jackson Elementary School in South Philadelphia. The two Latino students have gone to Jackson
from the time they were in Kindergarten, while the Arabic student entered Jackson this year after
the school year had already begun. All three of these children are below grade level in all content
areas, especially literacy. In terms of this lesson, math is the content area being addressed. The
concepts of less than, greater than, and equal to will be taught. Prior to this lesson, the students
have learned how to count and label their numbers 0 through 100. They have worked briefly with
$#$#1$#$# lines and understand the cardinality of numbers.
DESIRED RESULTS
In this lesson, I am trying to accomplish teaching the students the key concepts of less than, greater
than, and equal to. I want them to understand that each number holds its own value and that a
specific number may hold

Vertigo Gaze
The gaze in the movie
Laura Mulvey, the British scholar, she puts forward the film argument combines with
psychoanalytic theory and the concept of male gaze in her article Visual Pleasure and Narrative .
Mulvey mentions that, In a world ordered by sexual imbalance, pleasure in looking has been split
between active / male and passive / female. The determining male gaze projects its phantasy on to
the female form which is styled accordingly. In their traditional exhibitionist role women are
whisper At and displayed, with their appearance coded for strong visual and erotic impact so that
they can be said to connote to be looking at ness. (p.715) In other words, Hollywood narrative
films use women in order to provide a pleasurable visual experience for men. The narrative film
structures its gaze as masculine. The woman is always the object of the reifying gaze, not the
bearer of it.

The first lens shot of actress is very important, because it is the crucial weapon to satisfy male
actor s voyeurism and fetishistic scopophilia. In Vertigo, it performs voyeurism and fetishistic

fetishistic scopophilia. Double Indemnity s chief actress Phyllis is a sexy and beautiful woman,
the first lens shot of her begins from her bare feet, and then from her bare feet slowly rise to her
body, then moves to her naked shoulders, the chief actor Walter keeps looking up at Phyllis. It
could implie the later status between Phyllis and Walter. Walter loves Phyllis, but she does not.
Differently, Madeleine s first lens shot starts from her back in a long distance, then the lens

Doryphoros Spear Bearer
This piece of sculpture is The Doryphoros (Spear Bearer), Sculptor Polykleitos sculpted this piece
in 450 440 BCE, during the High Classical period. Unlike the sculptures from the Archaic period,
the High Classical period sculpture is no longer stiff, rigid and stylized. The understanding of the
human anatomy is showed with accuracy and observation of the artist. Comparing with the sculpture
from the Archaic period, this Spear Bearer is realistic and natural, the proportion of the head and
the figure is considered perfect in centuries. this was the uniqueness of this piece during that
time period. Even The Doryphoros (Spear Bearer) is so new, However, people can still see the
influence from the early period sculptures in it, such as the Early Classical period sculptures. The
famous bronze sculpture Riace Warrior is a great example of stylistic influence can be seen in the

Polykleitos made this male figure as perfect as possible, Polykleitos showed people his remarkable

make a perfect human figure, in another word, he takes human part as a measuring tool to figure
out how different parts of body relate to other parts (Stewart, Andrew). Greekswas more obsessed
with the idea o perfect than ever, therefore, Polykeitos developed this technique in order to satisfy
their desire of perfection. This shift of the awareness of the concept of beauty is a turning point in

Technology Explanation
Technology Explanation
There are many different kinds of technologies that are available for the world to use today. We
have the convenience of all different types data input and output devices and the means to store
and make available at lightning fast speeds. Some of the input devices that we use every day are
essential in different kinds situations and projects everyday. We also use many different types of
output devices to view our finished product. The input devices that we use are keyboards, scanners,
a mouse, and a few others in there as well. We use output devices to see our finished result or our
desired outcome just as much, or if not more than input devices. Some of these output devices are

This is a quick way of inputting retail tags into a computer so the total of the amount of money you
owe can be calculated. This ensures proper inventory control and reliable accuracy for the
retailer as well as the consumer. Another breakthrough that we have to enjoy for documents to be
inputted accurately into a computer is the document scanner and fax machine to scan and send
thousands of miles away. All of these input devices are a breakthrough in the technology world
today and has made our lives a lot easier when it comes to massive inputting and accuracy of the
inputs themselves. We have talked a lot about inputting devices, now we ll talk about output
devices and the quality of these outputs. When we want to see something, we want to see, or
hear, or even feel the best that we possibly can. There are many ways to do this, but there are
better ways than others for different things. Hand held computers have been exploding into the
market today. The reason why they are so popular is because the quality of the output is so
great. The (TFT) thin film transistors, and (LCD) liquid crystal display screens that they use
today are very clear and easy to read. Most of them are in color as well. This makes the handheld
computers so convenient and appealing, as well as very valuable to end users today. As we said

Latin School Concert Report
It was January 7th, 2017, the weather alert had been right, there was a pretty darn big snowstorm
outside, but inside, of the Boston Latin School auditorium, the 10th Annual MMEA Eastern Senior
District Festival were filled with excited spirits that were much bigger. There was a smattering of
students from each school in the Eastern District, and many BLS students were part of them. A
feeling of awe and admiration floated through me as I saw them enter the stage. In 4 years, I would
be just like them, I hoped.
There were 4 fantastic music ensembles that would perform: Concert Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band,
and Chorus. Each group had a particular conductor, but all performed with much skill, gusto, and
professionalism.
The first to perform was the Concert Band, conducted by Dr. Emily Threinen (Director of Bands
at the Univeristy of Minnesota School of Music), with pieces such Nitro by Frank Ticheli and
Sheltering Sky by John Mackey. The ensemble s prominent performance, however, was in its last
piece, Scenes from the Louvre by Norman dello Joio. From the opening movement to the last note,
the entire auditorium was filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the bassist Charles Mingus, and Body and Soul by George Stone. They also incorporated some
other songs, such as Tuning Up by Toshiki Akiyoshi, and Count Bubba by George Goodwin.
Throughout the entire performance, many soloists popped up and played with such tone and mood
and dedication, with riffs and dazzling techniques. The group also had wonderful cooperation and
harmony with each other. Right after a song ended, the crowd would erupt into cheering

Us Foreign Policy Analysis
Q 7 Discuss the Foreign policy making in USA in currentScenario.
BACKGROUND
The USA exercises its foreign policy through financial aid. For example, scarcity relief in North
Korea provides not only humanitarian aid but also a base for the development of democratic ideals
and bodies.
George Washington s Farewell Speech in 1789 enclosed one major piece of advice to the state
regarding relations with other nations: avoid entangling alliances. Those words designed USA
foreign policy for more than a century.
Today some Americans consider that Washington s words are still wise ones, and that the USA
should take away from world affairs whenever possible. In fact, , the US has been involved in
world politics throughout the 20th century, and as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Who Makes Foreign Policy?
Henry Kissinger work for as National Security Adviser and Secretary of State under Presidents
Nixon and Ford. He was a key figure in uttering U.S. foreign policy during the Cold War, and
remains one of the leading authorities on international relations and diplomacy.
As with all policy making, many people and organizations have a hand in setting United States
foreign policy. The main goals of foreign policy is to use diplomacy or talking, meeting, and
creating agreements to solve international issues. They try to keep problems from developing into
conflicts that require military settlements.
The President almost always has the primary obligation for affecting foreign policy. Presidents, or
their representatives, meet with leaders of other nations to try to resolve international issues
peacefully. According to the Constitution, Presidents sign treaties with other nations with the advice
and approval of the Senate. So the Senate, and to a lesser extent, the House of Representatives, also
contribute in shaping foreign policy.

Summary Of The Short StoryLather And Nothing Else
In the short story, Lather and Nothing Else , the author, Hernando Tellez, creates suspense using a
few different techniques. This short story takes place in a revolutionary barber s shop, where the
barber contemplates murdering an executioner by the name of Captain Torres. In order to create
suspense, Tellez uses the key elements of limiting information and narrativepoint of view. The
author limits information when the barber has a sudden encounter with Captain Torres and when
the barber is in process of shaving Captain Torres. One way the author creates suspense is by
limiting information throughout the story when the barber has a sudden encounter with Captain
Torres. The first time this element is used is when an unknown man first enters the barber s shop,
whose identity intensifies the grip of the story. Without any description as to who this person is,
the author only describes how [Captain Torres] was taking off his belt with his bullet holder...
(Tellez 1) The lack of information of the character provokes doubt in the reader s mindof why the
character is being described to a large extent. If an object or character is repeatedly displayed,
there is a higher chance of it being a significant part of the story. This prompts the reader to finish
the story because it gives the urge to grasp incomplete information given in the beginning.
Limiting information is used another time when the barber is in the process of shaving Captain
Torres. While doing his work, the barber silently wishes that [Captain Torres] wouldn t come.
(Tellez 1). There is no knowledge given to why the barber wishes for Captain Torres not to come.
Captain Torres is addressed with the pronoun he , rather than a direct specified introduction to how
he is. This gives a mysterious atmosphere, making the reader wonder why the barber wishes Torres
wasn t here.
Another way suspense is created in the story is by using point of view when the barber is
mentally trying to figure out if killing Captain Torres is a good choice or not, twice. One of the
situations where this occurs is when the barber is mentally debating on whether to kill Captain
Torres. As the barber is giving a shave, the barber imagines if [Captain Torres] deserves it?

The limiting reactants are the reactants that limit the amount of product that can be formed. One
reactant would be chosen as limiting reactants when either one reactant would be used up quicker
than the other one. Therefore, the one that is the first one to used up would be the limiting
reactants. The reaction will eventually stop when the limiting reactant is all used up. The reaction

Chemical And Biological Properties Of Soil Pollution
It is always difficult to remove contaminations from soils because it contains many toxic chemicals
such as (Pb, As, Cu, Cd, Cr, Ni, Hg and Zn). This chemicals mixed with the soil after burning of
industrial waste, electronics waste or uses of agricultural technology. Then rain water makes it seep
deep into the soiland cause soil pollution. This makes it so difficult and time consuming to remove,
particularly when the affected area is on a large scale. Soil is made of by two components which
are organic and inorganic solid constituent, water and mixture of different gasses present in various
proportions. The mineral component in the soil varies, according to the parent material which the
soils had been developed due to the issue of different type of climate conditions. Also, soil can also
be classified into three different properties, physical, chemical and biological properties. Physical
properties of soil are being controlled by soil water movement, such as texture and soil structures.
The soil moisture have high tendency in controlling solute movement, salt solubility, chemical
reaction and microbiological activities and most importantly the bioavailability of metal ions. In
this situation, a successful phytoremediationprogram must be considered as an alternative in the
specific site. In the past lots of researchers have tried different method in order to mitigate or
reclaim the heavy metals polluted soils, but so far phytoremediation is the best of all because it is

For the first Electronics Project, my team worked together to build a circuit and used a

each member of the group. There was a task assigned to each group member: Circuit builder,
measurer, and the data collector/calculator. Because of this group collaboration, we were able to
work quickly and efficiently to get the project done on time. This project was definitely a learning
experience for all of us because this was the first time we had been expected to build a circuit. We
worked together and followed the instructions step by step. The measurements we were expected to
take included resistance, voltage, and current which is what the data collector used to calculate

did not know what the measurements meant, but after my teammates helped me understand how
the measurements are correlated to the theoretical calculations and the circuit as a whole, I better
understood how the circuit worked as well as what the measurements signified. Because of this

Change in one of the market risk may result in changes in another, which can affect how Walmart
price the product for consumers and it also affect the value of the cost leadership initiatives. By
using cost leadership to leverage operating expenses, increasing productivity and sourcing goods
globally at low, low cost will maximize returns on capital invested. Walmart execute a tight financial
expense control and a strong inventory management along with cost leadership and financial
discipline will gives Walmart more profitable returns (Walmart 2010 annual report). In closing,
Team C has evaluated Walmart s annual report to identify relevant strategic planning initiatives as
well as to gain a better understanding of how the Walmart organization uses strategic planning to
their benefit. We have discovered the extreme efficiency of using such a tool as cost leadership, and
how Walmart uses this tool to dominate the competition and strive as the industry leader in
providing quality products at discount prices. This combination proves to maximize profits as
Walmart continues to effectively utilize global sourcing policies while minimizing the collective
risk associated within.

The Effects Of Alcohol On The Heart Rate Of Daphnia Magna
ABSTRACT
This report presents the physiological changes in the heart rate of a fresh water crustacean
Daphnia magna when exposed to caffeine and alcohol. Different Daphnia magnas were placed in a
depression slide containing fresh water and later exposed to solutions of caffeine and alcohol. Each
Daphnia magna had different responses. These data suggest there is an increase in heart rate when a
Daphnia magna is exposed to caffeine and a decrease in heart rate when it is in a solution of alcohol.
LAB REPORT
Title: Physiological Changes in the Heart Rate of Daphnia magna When Exposed to Stimulants
(Caffeine and Alcohol).
Prepared for: Professor Samantha Snavely

Introduction The inverse effects between the consumption of stimulant like caffeine and depressant
like alcohol has been well established over the years. Alcohol has a paradoxical effect that makes it
first appear as a stimulant (American heart association, 2015). The two faced nature is due to
ethanol the most active ingredient in alcohol. Alcohol slows down the nervous system by acting on
the brain s inhibitory neurotransmitter called gamma aminobutyric acid. Studies have shown
Bradycardia (slow or decreased heart rate) in people who consume too much alcohol (ehealthMe,
2015). Drinking alcohol can completely alter a person s concentration, mood, and coordination
(National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2013). Too much consumption of alcohol

Marketing Technique For The Marketing Of Cool By Juliet...
For many years, corporations have targeted adults, but as the years progressed their main focus and
targeted audience have been children. Countless corporations often focus their products such as
toys, clothes, and drugs to children in order to increase their own economic gain. In Juliet Schor s
article, Selling to children: The Marketingof Cool , she mentions how products are accepted and
interpreted by children in today s society. However, in Eric Schlosser article, Kid Kustomers , he
emphasizes on the constant antagonizing strategies through ads and televisions shows to target
kids. Although Juliet Schors and Eric Schlosser are both speaking about corporations marketing to
children, their articles differ quite significantly. While they both speak about corporation and their
marketing directed to children, Schor maintains her focus on how society perceived these products
as cool or geeky, while Schlosser focuses his article on the negative way corporations have
marketed their products to underage children. In Schlosser s article, Kid Kustomers , the author
focuses on many disturbing facts as the marketing technique for tobaccoproducts used to target
children. It was really astounding to see that in the early 90 s these commercials of tobacco use
was made kid friendly through the use of the cartoon camel. The image itself became so popular
that they were compared to the images of Mickey Mouse. The author state, all of America s six

The Problem Of Evil And Atheism
owe to prove his thesis about the problems of evil and atheism, Rowe asks three fundamental
questions. The first question, is there an argument for atheism based on the problem of evil that
could rationally justify atheism? Supporting his question, Rowe by uses the idea of human and
animal suffering.is it reasonable for omnipotent, omniscient being(s) to permits its creation to suffer
by extinguish each other for their own personal benefits. If there is such a thing as an
omnibenevolent, omnipotent holy being how come the ultimate and unescapable suffering is this

Another view on suffering brought by theist is the suffering can lead to a greater spiritual good.
In order to gain spiritual guidance, there has to be suffering involved. The agonizing struggle
brought by human s free choice is debated since it can only be prevented by an individual s free
choice. But not all suffering is created by human s free choice. Individuals have no control over the
amount of sorrow that is brought upon them. Without warning, natural disaster brings suffering
even if people are trying their best in order to prevent any kind of unhappiness. How could theist
know the meaning of such suffering and its purpose? By trusting that the meaning of suffering is
only known after death, how can theist surely agree if none of them have experienced the afterlife?
Last, what position should the informed atheist take concerning the rationality of religious beliefs?
After giving a response to theist s argument against atheist, both are to believe that the other is
believing a false belief. There are many types of atheist with different thoughts on religious beliefs.
There are three different types of atheism discussed in Rowe s theory. Unfriendly atheism, there is
no such thing as a god(s). Indifferent atheism, has no concern in believing that a theist god(s)
exists. And friendly atheism is certain that there is a reason theist to have faith in god. Defending

Maybe the industry may go up after several years (as marketing vice president said). At that time,
the increase of output will benefit the company. Here we draft this project DCF with a
conservative assumption to see whether this project is value to invest. The EPC project,
originated by assistant plant manager, should be a separate project in the Merseyside s capital
budgeting. Although the EPC production is a part of output from Merseyside plant, this project
we are talking about is to renovate and rationalize the polypropylene production line. There is no
dependency between them. We understand this EPC project might be very important for the
company. But it is needed to propose another separate capital budgeting for approval. As Gowan
said, The Treasury staff thinks this impounds a long term inflation expectation of 3 percent per
year . To keep the gross margin, the company may need increase sales 3% per year. As we all
known, in most cases, the cost of goods sold will increase accordingly with inflation. If the
company continues keeping original sales, it means the revenue will decline. So in DCF table, we

We Are All Federalists All Republicans Summary
In the writings; We Are All Federalists, All Republicans , Max Lerner discusses that Thomas
Jefferson was one of the first presidents to have to deal with party politics. The opposing sides
were the Federalists and Republicans. The article also discusses other presidents and how they
reacted to political parties. The article especially talks about Thomas Jeffersons life and what was
happening in the country. Before Jefferson became the president, a heated confrontation
between the Federalist Party and Republican Party developed, so everyone expected that
Jefferson criticized and denied the federalist s policy. However, he did not attack the Federalist,
but rather praised that both parties could express their opinion freely even though it was bit
aggressive. This approval of the opponent would be one of strategies to calm them down. In his

that Jefferson made a bad decision to unite both sides, but it really was a good idea because a

This tolerance to venom ensures that the meerkat has little competition for its diet and further
allows them to maintain a steady, plentiful supply. Due to the harsh, water scarce deserts in which
meerkats live, finding adequate water supplies is nearly impossible and when present, water is
dominated by larger animals that consider meerkats to be a meal. Therefore, the meerkat must make
use of available moisture and obtains its requirements primarily through its diet.
It has been observed that a gang of meerkats will inhabit underground burrows consisting of
numerous entrance and exit holes, multiple sleeping and birthing chambers, and having
hundreds of feet of tunnels branching off in several directions, which give them the ability to
escape predators who invade their homes. An average gang s burrow may have well over fifteen
separate dens and it should be noted that the number of areas provide them the opportunity to
rotate their use every three to four weeks. This rotation is a result of parasite (ticks, ants, fleas)
overload, making living conditions both unsafe and unsanitary. Once the parasitic levels have
reached a reasonable level, meerkats will re inhabit the dens. At least one chamber within the
burrow is reserved as a bathroom, or litter box, serving as a safe place for relief of bodily functions.
It is extremely unsafe for a meerkat to exit the burrow at night to relieve themselves, so having a

The International Bill That Threatens Online Privacy Essay...
Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) were big bills recently
in the EU and America that caught the attention of nearly every internet user. It was hard to not
notice these two bills. These legislations would have pushed copyright infringement on many sites
and much of the internetas it is known would have been shut down. On January 18, big sites such
as Wikipedia, and Google blacked out their site for a day. This sent a loud and clear message to
the creators of this bill and they put it on indefinite hold. While this was happening another bill
decided to raise its ugly head. It had been lurking in the shadows of the other two bills and would
prove to be a much more immense monster to face. Much like... Show more content on

The bill was put on a supposed indefinite hold. ACTA was finally brought to the attention by the
general public. Much like SOPA and PIPA it would cause unnecessary jailing, for crimes that
would prove meager to most of the crime in the world today. ACTA is made not only for online
copyright problems, but also to work against smuggling, and piracy. There is nothing wrong with a
well written bill that would work against fighting those crimes and shutting down illegal pirating
sites. The way ACTA is written, it would put copyright infringement on many sites that people use
on a daily basis. A clip of a little kid singing a Hannah Montana song could possibly land some
unsuspecting adolescent in jail.
Despite that fact that ACTA was poorly written it does raise some pros and cons. Any Pro ACTA
individual will claim that by instigating the bill, it will create more jobs, thus work towards fixing
the economy. The bill would also help prevent people from illegally downloading copyrighted
material, smuggling, and counterfeiting. There is no major disagreement that Artists should have
better protection for their work, but there is a fine line between protecting rights, and being
beyond ridiculous. As for creating jobs, this sounds like another case of working with the Upper
Class, and ignoring the majority of people in Middle and Lower Class. The way the bill is written

capital, marketing or other expenditures, or lose category share, any of which could have a
materialistic harmful effect on their business and financial results. Category share and growth
could also be adversely impacted if Kellogg s are not successful in introducing new products.
Agricultural produce, including corn, wheat, soybean oil, sugar and cocoa, are the principal raw
materials used in Kellogg s products. Carton board, corrugated, and plastic are the principal
packaging materials used by the company. The cost of such products may fluctuate widely due to

The Revolt And The Sepoy Rebellion
Throughout the year s many historians have compilated and examined why Indian people were so
desperate to gain back their independence from the British Empire during their rule over India,
from 1612 to 1947. The reasoning can most definitely be found as the British discriminated against
Indian people as they believe that they were inferior; it is no surprise that Indian people fought so
hard for their independence. Throughout the British Raj, they placed and put forward unbelievably
racist acts and laws which discriminated against Indian people. Which of course led to Indian s
rebelling against the British rule and thus many massacres and rebellions occurred during their
ruling. Thus, answering why Indian people fought so desperately for... Show more content on

Herbert Asquith, the Liberal Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, clearly believed that the
massacre was catastrophic and sinful, there has never been such an incident in the whole annals
of Anglo Indian history nor, I believe, in the history of our Empire from its very inception down
to the present day ... It is one of the worst outrages in the whole of our history (AP reference).
Though all Dyer could say in his defence was my duty... my horrible, dirty duty. (AP
REFERENCE). Some say, with fair reasoning, that this massacre was the turning point for modern
India, some even saying that this was the prelude to Gandhi s commitment to his cause (Pletcher,
n.d.).
The cause of the Sepoy Rebellion, the first serious rebellion the British faced, can be traced back
to the unfair mistreatment of Indian soldiers in the British India Army, as the British greased the
Lee Enfield rifle with animal fat which was highly offensive to their religious beliefs. As well as
this, the wealth annexation in 1856 of Oudh (Heitzman Worden, n.d.). The rebel soldiers marched
to the Delhi and offered their service to the Mughal Emperor was another spark leading to the
rebellion. Both the British and the Indians suffered enormous loss. A drawing made by Captain

If one is the parent of a middle or high school student, there is a probability that one s child is

For many teens though this behavior has become just another challenge of youth, and another
facet of their lives that parents either don t know about or feel as though they cannot understand
to the child s full potential. The existence of a generation gap between what adults and teens
believe is acceptable language, behavior, or communication on social media today is one of the
findings in an extremely detailed article in the Palo Alto Weekly Power to hurt: How social
media impacts our kids. The bundles of stories reveal the unprecedented struggles facing today s
teens as they find their way in the unsupervised, deranged and raw world of social media. Teens

Verbal Analysis On Non Verbal Communication
Whilst verbal communication is valuable in successful interactions with others, understanding and
interpreting non verbal elements of communication, such as body language, is equally as
important. As a paramedic, deciphering the non verbal context of the message being expressed
can allow the clinician to identify the emotional state of the person seeking assistance. It has been
suggested that an astonishing 93% of a perceived message is derived from non verbal cues leaving
a mere 7% of message analysis stemming from the actual choice in vocabulary (Borg, 2009). Non
verbal communicationtranspires continually, many cues are preformed obliviously as unconscious
manifestations of an individual s state of mind; a person can unintentionally appear stressed,
anxious, happy or sad as a result of their thoughts and feelings, consequently it is difficult to have
total conscious control over these non verbal cues being presented (Hartley, 1999). The only way
to gain awareness of these unconscious non verbal behaviours is when someone else brings them
to our attention; this is taking into consideration as a Paramedic who appears concerned may
inadvertently cause unnecessary worry to a patient (Taylor, 2010). Other instinctive forms of non
verbal communication can transpire accidentally which may be illustrate the individual as
unprofessional and through poor communication, for example, defensive body language, such as
arm crossing your arms when it s cold may be perceived by a

The Influence Of Imperialism In American Imperialism
In the 1890s some Americans were eager to expand. Post Civil War the U.S. was going through a
time where they thought that they were lagging behind other nations in terms of expansionism.
America felt that they were lacking what they needed in order to become a powerhouse. Many
Americans, like Theodore Roosevelt or Alfred Thayer Mahan, were imperialists who wanted to
acquire land/territories for the U.S. The United Statessought to find their identity as a nation in the
world. American Identity to imperialists can be defined as patriotism, military power, and
dominance/hegemony. This was controversial because some Americans were anti imperialists who
did not believe in expansionism, but in defending the Constitution. This brought about both
supporters and opponents of imperialismduring the Spanish American War. Manifest Destiny is
defined as the 19th century belief that expansion of the U.S. throughout the American continents
were both justified and inevitable. This God given right fueled western settlement and
imperialistic belief. Imperialist Senator Albert Beveridge, September 1898, made a speech that
stated the flag of liberty will circle the globe...benighted peoples will know the voice of liberty is
speaking...civilization is dawning. This demonstrates the belief of expanding to territories around
the globe. Charles Denby wrote a forum in November 1898 titled Shall we keep the Phillipines. In

The Limits Of My Language Are The Limits Of My World
History of Language
It is argued that the human species are a class of animal. However, the distinctive characteristic that
makes us unique, which makes humans different from all other species, is our ability to use
complex language. Language is thought of as multi sensory, containing not only the verbal and
writing, but also touch, smell, sound, and body elements. As humans are very social beings, people
have the natural instinct to connect and communicate with others, to share our emotions and ideas,
and as a result, learning a language becomes an instinct for each individual. Language is the
device used for communication, Ludwig Wittgenstein, an Austrian philosopher on language, said,
The limits of my language are the limits of my world . By this Wittgenstein implies that people
use just one language and therefore live in just one world, and if someone is not capable of using
the language, their world is narrowed. However, Albert Einstein had a conflicting opinion, he
cheapened the importance of language and said, The words of a language as they are written and
spoken do not seem to play any role in the mechanism of my thought. His quote shows that a

The security environment today is volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA). The

complexity is the challenge of increasingly constrained fiscal resources. To protect U.S. National

The National Military Strategy of the United States articulates several specific challenges to U.S.
National Security interests that will confront JF 2025. Russian aggression toward its neighbors
and defiance of international standards of behavior threatens stability in Europe. Iranian nuclear
ambitions and support of terror imperils Israel and the Middle East. A bellicose and nuclear North
Korea is a threat to America s allies, Japan and the Republic of Korea. The emerging power of
China offers both opportunities in the form of greater economic cooperation, but also challenges as
they expand their military capabilities, menace Taiwan and make provocative claims in the South

degrade regional stability and threaten U.S. interests.
The emergence of near peer competitors like China and Russia and the threat of malign regional

Bible Contradictions And Discrepancies In The Bible
The most important thing that I have learned about the Bible this week is Bible contradictions and
discrepancies. In my textbook it states that the Bible is the only book we can wholly trust

believers in Christ no longer believe in the Bible. Social media has changed many people s thoughts
and belief in God. I have seen full debates on a status that a Christian has posted and an unbeliever
commented to tell the Christian that the Bible was untrue and they have evidence of the Bible
being false.

The importance to repeat experiments is to make sure that the results can be replicated, and that the
experiment results were not flawed. For the most accurate measurements, the highest and lowest
numbers measured need to be removed and keep and use the middle measurement.
A pattern emerged with our results, the bigger the cube surface area, the less the cube diffused in
the acid. With only one exception the 2CM block of agar (error). The results emerged shows with
a block with larger surface area, the less it diffuses in this experiment, the acid.
Conclusion
From the results of this investigation agar blocks with higher surface to volume ratio will diffuse
slower than ones with lower surface to volume ratio. This is done by the process of diffusion. The
hypothesis was correct, as the bigger the cube was the less it diffused and the agar had a chemical
reaction with the sulphuric acid. The chemical reaction caused the agar to change its purple colour
to almost transparent.
Abstract
Purpose and procedure The purpose of this experiment is to determine the effect of surface area to

The Colonization Of Africa During The 19th Century
The Europeans became invested in Africa in the start of the 17th Century when the Dutch
established a port on the Cape of Good Hope on the southern tip of Africa to grant their ships
extended range to better access the rich Indies. Modern day South Africa, known at the time as
Pretoria, was a hotly contested place among the European powers. Initially there was not much to
attract Europeans to the area besides its great strategic location. Dutch settlers, also known as
Boers, were apt to travel inland and constantly established properties beyond the official borders
of their colony. The migration of the Boers often translated to skirmishes with native African
tribes. The British also established a colony on the Cape of Good Hope. The Brits sometimes
brokered treaties and attempted to keep the Boers and tribes from fighting amongst each other. In
the middle of the 19th century Britain controlled the colonies of the Cape and Natal. The British
colonies extended from the Cape to the North and around the eastern sea shore, nearly to
Portuguese Mozambique. The Boers occupied two interior colonies: The Orange Free State and the
Transvaal. The African tribes were positioned in between all of the colonies. The Zulu For
centuries the Zulu tribe, also known as the Zulu Kingdom, had fought neighboring tribes and
became the strongest of them all. The Zulu were located across the Mzinyathi and Thukela rivers
and north of the Natal Territory. In 1824 the leader of the Zulu

Improvements on the Evaluation Scope of Evaluation I would continue to use a mixed method
approach in the evaluation of the summer programs. However, I would first address the survey
and interview questions, and how the observation process occurred. Before doing anything else I
would attempt to make sure that these questions being evaluated were being asked in a manner
suited to the age appropriateness of the participants. This may entail that several different versions
of the surveys to exist. I would also ensure that the number of questions each survey contained was
limited in hopes to increase accuracy and completion due to the limited amount of time needed for
completion. In the questions asked, I would make sure to ask how the summer program impacted
the participants. Additionally, I would also survey the parents of the participants to get a take on
what their perceptions of the summer program were. Criterion Following revamping the scope of
the evaluation a criterion in which the data will be compared would be established. The established
criterion would be presented in the evaluation in length. The current evaluation seems to arbitrarily
make a judgment of the worth of the program, and there were no references to the criterion process

A Survey of Diabetics in San Diego
INTRODUCTION The entire concept of diabetes is about living on the edge of trouble. While
Type 1 Diabetes is a biological condition associated with a fundamental flaw in the way one s
body produces or reacts to insulin a substance that controls and monitors sugar in the blood and
cells Type 2 Diabetes is a social and cultural condition. Those most likely groups of people to
have to live with it are persons of non white nationalities (increasingly Hispanics and Asians)
who live at or below the US poverty level and/or who have not achieved a very high level of
educational advancement (California Department of Public Health, 2010). And in places like
San Diego County, California, this puts a major number of people, young and old, quite literally
on the border of health and wellness disasters. Diabetes mellitus, notes a 2010 San Diego health
assessment posting, is a disease of abnormal carbohydrate metabolism, in which the level of
blood glucose, or blood sugar, is above normal. The disease occurs when the body is unable to
produce or use insulin, a hormone that helps move glucose from the blood into other cells
throughout the body (San Diego County, n.d.). Type 1 generally reflects a naturally occurring
demonstration of this; Type 2 is associated with adjustments that the body makes as a result of
sugar and fat intake, and thus aligned very directly with obesity and poor health and dietary
concerns. An estimated 90% to 95% of the conditions are now Type 2, contributing

Cost Of Car
If you own a car, you know how expensive it can be to keep it running and insured at all times. It
seems the cost of vehicle ownership continues to rise, yet this is one item most families cannot
live without. They either don t have access to public transportation, need the vehicle for their job
or have another reason a car has become a necessity rather than a luxury. The cost of car
ownership doesn t have to break the bank, however. Here is how to save money on your car.
Keep a vehicle longer. Don t trade it in for a new model every two or three years. Each year, new

summer months, when the temperature starts to climb, open the windows and all the air movement

comfortable without touching the controls.
Make fuel economy a priority when purchasing a vehicle. A four cylinder vehicle uses less gas than
a six cylinder, and automatic transmissions require more fuel than their manual counterparts. Keep
factors such as this in mind when purchasing a new car to save money every month at gas stations.
Pay attention to driving habits. Speeding reduces fuel mileage and braking hard wastes gas. The

The Purpose Of The Police Force
The purpose of the police force is to protect and serve while upholding Constitutional human rights.
All police departments follow some code of honor that functionally swears them into oath that they
will enforce laws while assisting and protecting the general populace. This much can be said about
all policeforces across the nation and of for the most part the world. That being said, there is no
exception in Aberdeen. Aberdeen s department is composed of 45 active officers and 4 reserve
officers along with 9 civilian employees. The mission statement that the department released to the
population of Aberdeen declares that they will provide fairness in their judgments to promote trust
amongst the community while demonstrating respect for each other and the general populous.
Also, honesty and integrity are to be maintained while demonstrating competence in the
environment. In serving the public they agree to regulate traffic abnormalities, investigate crimes,
and provide escort services for business, funerals and so forth. But that s not all, they respond to
just about anything that is called in or brought to their attention by any other means, in quite a
literal sense they are servants of the people. Maintaining order is a key function to the police force
as it is a means to maintain peace and tranquility within an urbanized environment. It s a universal
functionality that halts the anarchy that could easily erupt if there was no repercussive force. Order

The Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Weapons Proliferation
Equally important to the safety standards forced upon nuclear engineers, is the prospect of nuclear
weapons proliferation as a byproduct of energy production. It has been a topic of debate since the
mid 1940s when the first nuclear bombs were being produced for war under the United States
Manhattan Project, and since then has received varied attention throughout the years. In its simplest
form, there is concern that the same technologies that are being used to produce nuclear power,
may also be able to allow access to nuclear weapons in the process. The Nuclear Threat Initiative
covers these issues, pointing explicitly to fuel enrichment and reprocessing as the most dangerous.

The push to overthrow Bashar began on social media by a group called, Syrian Revolution 2011

2012, The United States, Turkey, and other Gulf States showed support for the rebels by sending
money for equipment, arms, and humanitarian relief. In August of 2013, a chemical attack in
Damascus killed almost 1,500. The United States and international community blamed Assad,
however, the US did not take military action as they had initially promised (Beck 2015). On Assad

The Return Of Martin Guerre Analysis
Natalie Zemon Davis The Return of Martin Guerre tells the true story of a peasant named Martin
Guerre, who was at the center of a famous case of imposture in France in the sixteenth century.
Davis takes the facts of this famous case from two primary sources including a book written by
one of the trial judges of the case in Toulouse, Jean de Coras, called Arreste Memorable and one
by a lawyer, Guillaume La Sueur, called Admiranda Historia. Davis uses other secondary sources to
add details about peasant life including information about marriage, family, economics, religion,
village social structure, as well as the political structure of the time. Davis moves beyond the facts
and tries to interpret and understand the motivations of the characters in the story. For example,
she assumes that Bertrande silently agreed to the fraud of Arnaud du Tilh because she wanted a
husband and could not remarry after her husband abandoned her. This seems more believable to me
than Bertrande just being stupid or naive and not knowing the difference between her husband and
a stranger. In the preface of the book she admits she was generating not proofs, but historical
possibilities (Davis, viii). I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although his family did not believe him at first, his similar appearance and detailed knowledge of
Martin s life convinced most of the village including his four sisters, uncle, and even his wife, that
he was the real Martin Guerre. The new Martin, Armand de Tilh, was accepted by his wife, family
and friends for more than three years, during which time Bertrande mothered two of his
children, with only one surviving. Du Tilh was wonderfully fluent of tongue and had a memory an
actor would envy (Davis, 37). Growing up he was known as dissolute, a youth of bad life, absorbed
in every vice. (Davis, 38). His cleverness was even said to be suspected of

Louis Contributions Of The Jazz Music Scene
Musical Style Louis made many contributions to the evolution of jazz as he learned and adapted
his style. His use of harmonies and improvisation was before his time and he helped shape the
whole genre as it was evolving. His technique with his trumpet playing and how the sound played
off of the other instruments was unparalleled at the time. His contributions and techniques play a
large part in changing jazzmusic from a folksy sound to more of the swing sound we attribute to
the genre today. Armstrong had amazing timing and rhythm as well as an ear for the music which
set him above the rest and propelled him to the top of the jazz music scene. In his songs you can
hear how much his trumpet stands out and the level of skill during trumpet solos and how he uses
the tone and vibrato of the instrument in order to give the sound we, to this day, associate with
him. His technique at the trumpet was revolutionary for the time and Armstrong would help shape
what the Jazz movement would become. (Ramsey) Philosophy
Louis grew up in a negative environment and understood how bad life could be and because of
this he tried to always make people smile. He was a humble man, even though being one of the
greatest celebrities of the twentieth Century (Louis). He was an Entertainer, not just an artist and
wanted to touch as many people he could with his music and wanted everyone to have a good
time. His shows weren t just a musician playing music for money, it was a man trying to make

This assembly of the playground area took a total of two and a half weeks, and the remainder of the
month was left to rigorous testing of the structure.
Month 3: Splash Area Construction, so far, has gone as planned, until a three straight days of rain
occurred. This pushed back the start of the splash area (see appendix diagram Splash Area) by a
week. This part of the process did not include the community involvement and was completed by
the hired construction crew plus a structural engineer. The elements of the splash parkinclude
galvanized steel parts to make the different structures that water will shoot, spray, and pour down.
Also, during the laying of the foundation process, holes were made in order to allow for water to
shoot up from the ground, allow for the placement of made structures, and to drain the water out.
The different colors chosen were to help bring about good vibes and fun times. Once every
structure was composed, it was set and mounted in its respective place. The process took four week
exactly and passed the structural engineer s approval.
Month 4: Basketball Court Area
And Clean Up The construction of the splash area went over by a week due to rain. This left three
weeks left until Memorial Splash Park was completed. The last thing was finishing the full court

The Vanishing Hitchhiker Essay
The Tale of the Vanishing Hitchhiker The legend of the Vanishing Hitchhiker has been evolving
over many years as every town has a slightly different tale to tell, but the gist of these tales have
remained the same. A man picks up a young woman hitchhiking and when he turns to bid his
unusual hitchhiker goodbye he discovers that she has mysteriously disappeared from the car. He
later learns that his mysterious passenger had died several years earlier ( The Vanishing Hitchhiker).
Even though some believe that they have witnessed a being from the beyond communicating with
them, folklorist David Mikkelson proved them wrong once he came to realize. This backcountry
lore of a young ladies vanishing without a trace from vehicles started to spread like wildfire
through many social media sites and local newspapers because the lore is just a hoax that has...

All they have to study is the accounts of others. The appeal of vanishing hitchhiker lies in the
nature of the encounter an interaction with a ghost that occurs not because the main character
went looking for the supernatural, but because it came to him. Such tales underscore the belief
that representatives from the spirit world can be encountered at any time and by anyone. Adding
to the horror factor is the specter s passing for a living person. That the driver does not recognize
it as a ghost during their time together makes it all that more easy to believe we won t recognize a
ghost when we meet one, either. ( The Vanishing Hitchhiker ). The many recorded vanishing
hitchhiker sightings all have one thing in common, the fact that it always seen by one who is not
searching for the lore. With countless folklorists going out in search of these beings and them all
coming up empty, has convinced many of them that the lore is false, only to have been cultivated
and nurtured by newspapers and social

The Conservative Party Government Era During 1951-1964
The Conservative Party Government Era during 1951 1964 is a period which has been politically
criticized throughout the years specifically that of Britain Politics. During this time, the
Conservative government was said to have pursued mainly Keynesian economic policies which
was centrally focused on reducing inflation, to maintain growth and promote stability but despite
the Conservatives attempts to revive the Britain economy through industrialism, increase standard
of living and encouragement for consumerism there was the development of a stagnant economy
which eventually produced an increase in unemployment, inflation and interest rates for
consumer products and loans. The Labour government described the period of 1951 64 as
Thirteen Wasted Years as they felt that during this period Britain experienced economic chaos
and turmoil. This was quite the opposite view for that of the Conservatives, particularly
Macmillan who expressed in his speech that the people had ... never had it so good and
encouraged his supporters and opponents to ... Go around the country, go to industrial towns, go
to the farms and you will see a state of prosperity such as we have never had before... This research
paper will make reference to Andrew Boxer Thirteen Wasted Years and Dominic Sandbrook Never

people there was in fact no real growth placing Britain in the notion of being economically
stagnant as the nation known for its shop keepers and industrialization was in financial crises

that problems which were to be seen as of vital importance were on the back burning and other

  • 9. Summary Of The Short StoryLather And Nothing Else In the short story, Lather and Nothing Else , the author, Hernando Tellez, creates suspense using a few different techniques. This short story takes place in a revolutionary barber s shop, where the barber contemplates murdering an executioner by the name of Captain Torres. In order to create suspense, Tellez uses the key elements of limiting information and narrativepoint of view. The author limits information when the barber has a sudden encounter with Captain Torres and when the barber is in process of shaving Captain Torres. One way the author creates suspense is by limiting information throughout the story when the barber has a sudden encounter with Captain Torres. The first time this element is used is when an unknown man first enters the barber s shop, whose identity intensifies the grip of the story. Without any description as to who this person is, the author only describes how [Captain Torres] was taking off his belt with his bullet holder... (Tellez 1) The lack of information of the character provokes doubt in the reader s mindof why the character is being described to a large extent. If an object or character is repeatedly displayed, there is a higher chance of it being a significant part of the story. This prompts the reader to finish the story because it gives the urge to grasp incomplete information given in the beginning. Limiting information is used another time when the barber is in the process of shaving Captain Torres. While doing his work, the barber silently wishes that [Captain Torres] wouldn t come. (Tellez 1). There is no knowledge given to why the barber wishes for Captain Torres not to come. Captain Torres is addressed with the pronoun he , rather than a direct specified introduction to how he is. This gives a mysterious atmosphere, making the reader wonder why the barber wishes Torres wasn t here. Another way suspense is created in the story is by using point of view when the barber is mentally trying to figure out if killing Captain Torres is a good choice or not, twice. One of the situations where this occurs is when the barber is mentally debating on whether to kill Captain Torres. As the barber is giving a shave, the barber imagines if [Captain Torres] deserves it? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chemical And Biological Properties Of Soil Pollution It is always difficult to remove contaminations from soils because it contains many toxic chemicals such as (Pb, As, Cu, Cd, Cr, Ni, Hg and Zn). This chemicals mixed with the soil after burning of industrial waste, electronics waste or uses of agricultural technology. Then rain water makes it seep deep into the soiland cause soil pollution. This makes it so difficult and time consuming to remove, particularly when the affected area is on a large scale. Soil is made of by two components which are organic and inorganic solid constituent, water and mixture of different gasses present in various proportions. The mineral component in the soil varies, according to the parent material which the soils had been developed due to the issue of different type of climate conditions. Also, soil can also be classified into three different properties, physical, chemical and biological properties. Physical properties of soil are being controlled by soil water movement, such as texture and soil structures. The soil moisture have high tendency in controlling solute movement, salt solubility, chemical reaction and microbiological activities and most importantly the bioavailability of metal ions. Different Daphnia magnas were placed in a depression slide containing fresh water and later exposed to solutions of caffeine and alcohol. Each Daphnia magna had different responses. These data suggest there is an increase in heart rate when a Daphnia magna is exposed to caffeine and a decrease in heart rate when it is in a solution of alcohol. LAB REPORT Title: Physiological Changes in the Heart Rate of Daphnia magna When Exposed to Stimulants (Caffeine and Alcohol). Prepared for: Professor Samantha Snavely By: Carolyn Omar Iduh June 27, 2015 Introduction The inverse effects between the consumption of stimulant like caffeine and depressant like alcohol has been well established over the years. Alcohol has a paradoxical effect that makes it first appear as a stimulant (American heart association, 2015). The two faced nature is due to ethanol the most active ingredient in alcohol. Alcohol slows down the nervous system by acting on the brain s inhibitory neurotransmitter called gamma aminobutyric acid. Due to the harsh, water scarce deserts in which meerkats live, finding adequate water supplies is nearly impossible and when present, water is dominated by larger animals that consider meerkats to be a meal. Therefore, the meerkat must make use of available moisture and obtains its requirements primarily through its diet. It has been observed that a gang of meerkats will inhabit underground burrows consisting of numerous entrance and exit holes, multiple sleeping and birthing chambers, and having hundreds of feet of tunnels branching off in several directions, which give them the ability to escape predators who invade their homes. An average gang s burrow may have well over fifteen separate dens and it should be noted that the number of areas provide them the opportunity to rotate their use every three to four weeks. This rotation is a result of parasite (ticks, ants, fleas) overload, making living conditions both unsafe and unsanitary. Once the parasitic levels have reached a reasonable level, meerkats will re inhabit the dens. At least one chamber within the burrow is reserved as a bathroom, or litter box, serving as a safe place for relief of bodily functions. Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) were big bills recently in the EU and America that caught the attention of nearly every internet user. It was hard to not notice these two bills. These legislations would have pushed copyright infringement on many sites and much of the internetas it is known would have been shut down. On January 18, big sites such as Wikipedia, and Google blacked out their site for a day. This sent a loud and clear message to the creators of this bill and they put it on indefinite hold. While this was happening another bill decided to raise its ugly head. It had been lurking in the shadows of the other two bills and would prove to be a much more immense monster to face. Much like... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bill was put on a supposed indefinite hold. ACTA was finally brought to the attention by the general public. Much like SOPA and PIPA it would cause unnecessary jailing, for crimes that would prove meager to most of the crime in the world today. ACTA is made not only for online copyright problems, but also to work against smuggling, and piracy. There is nothing wrong with a well written bill that would work against fighting those crimes and shutting down illegal pirating sites. The way ACTA is written, it would put copyright infringement on many sites that people use on a daily basis. A clip of a little kid singing a Hannah Montana song could possibly land some unsuspecting adolescent in jail. Despite that fact that ACTA was poorly written it does raise some pros and cons. Any Pro ACTA individual will claim that by instigating the bill, it will create more jobs, thus work towards fixing the economy. The bill would also help prevent people from illegally downloading copyrighted material, smuggling, and counterfeiting. There is no major disagreement that Artists should have better protection for their work, but there is a fine line between protecting rights, and being beyond ridiculous. As for creating jobs, this sounds like another case of working with the Upper Class, and ignoring the majority of people in Middle and Lower Class. The way the bill is written it threatens ... • 26. The Revolt And The Sepoy Rebellion Throughout the year s many historians have compilated and examined why Indian people were so desperate to gain back their independence from the British Empire during their rule over India, from 1612 to 1947. The reasoning can most definitely be found as the British discriminated against Indian people as they believe that they were inferior; it is no surprise that Indian people fought so hard for their independence. Throughout the British Raj, they placed and put forward unbelievably racist acts and laws which discriminated against Indian people. Which of course led to Indian s rebelling against the British rule and thus many massacres and rebellions occurred during their ruling. Thus, answering why Indian people fought so desperately for... Some say, with fair reasoning, that this massacre was the turning point for modern India, some even saying that this was the prelude to Gandhi s commitment to his cause (Pletcher, n.d.). The cause of the Sepoy Rebellion, the first serious rebellion the British faced, can be traced back to the unfair mistreatment of Indian soldiers in the British India Army, as the British greased the Lee Enfield rifle with animal fat which was highly offensive to their religious beliefs. As well as this, the wealth annexation in 1856 of Oudh (Heitzman Worden, n.d.). • 28. Verbal Analysis On Non Verbal Communication Whilst verbal communication is valuable in successful interactions with others, understanding and interpreting non verbal elements of communication, such as body language, is equally as important. As a paramedic, deciphering the non verbal context of the message being expressed can allow the clinician to identify the emotional state of the person seeking assistance. It has been suggested that an astonishing 93% of a perceived message is derived from non verbal cues leaving a mere 7% of message analysis stemming from the actual choice in vocabulary (Borg, 2009). Non verbal communicationtranspires continually, many cues are preformed obliviously as unconscious manifestations of an individual s state of mind; a person can unintentionally appear stressed, anxious, happy or sad as a result of their thoughts and feelings, consequently it is difficult to have total conscious control over these non verbal cues being presented (Hartley, 1999). The only way to gain awareness of these unconscious non verbal behaviours is when someone else brings them to our attention; this is taking into consideration as a Paramedic who appears concerned may inadvertently cause unnecessary worry to a patient (Taylor, 2010). Post Civil War the U.S. was going through a time where they thought that they were lagging behind other nations in terms of expansionism. Many Americans, like Theodore Roosevelt or Alfred Thayer Mahan, were imperialists who wanted to acquire land/territories for the U.S. The United Statessought to find their identity as a nation in the world. American Identity to imperialists can be defined as patriotism, military power, and dominance/hegemony. This brought about both supporters and opponents of imperialismduring the Spanish American War. However, the distinctive characteristic that makes us unique, which makes humans different from all other species, is our ability to use complex language. Language is thought of as multi sensory, containing not only the verbal and writing, but also touch, smell, sound, and body elements. As humans are very social beings, people have the natural instinct to connect and communicate with others, to share our emotions and ideas, and as a result, learning a language becomes an instinct for each individual. Language is the device used for communication, Ludwig Wittgenstein, an Austrian philosopher on language, said, The limits of my language are the limits of my world . By this Wittgenstein implies that people use just one language and therefore live in just one world, and if someone is not capable of using the language, their world is narrowed. The Colonization Of Africa During The 19th Century The Europeans became invested in Africa in the start of the 17th Century when the Dutch established a port on the Cape of Good Hope on the southern tip of Africa to grant their ships extended range to better access the rich Indies. Modern day South Africa, known at the time as Pretoria, was a hotly contested place among the European powers. Initially there was not much to attract Europeans to the area besides its great strategic location. Dutch settlers, also known as Boers, were apt to travel inland and constantly established properties beyond the official borders of their colony. The migration of the Boers often translated to skirmishes with native African tribes. The British also established a colony on the Cape of Good Hope. The Brits sometimes brokered treaties and attempted to keep the Boers and tribes from fighting amongst each other. In the middle of the 19th century Britain controlled the colonies of the Cape and Natal. The British colonies extended from the Cape to the North and around the eastern sea shore, nearly to Portuguese Mozambique. The Boers occupied two interior colonies: The Orange Free State and the Transvaal. The African tribes were positioned in between all of the colonies. While Type 1 Diabetes is a biological condition associated with a fundamental flaw in the way one s body produces or reacts to insulin a substance that controls and monitors sugar in the blood and cells Type 2 Diabetes is a social and cultural condition. Those most likely groups of people to have to live with it are persons of non white nationalities (increasingly Hispanics and Asians) who live at or below the US poverty level and/or who have not achieved a very high level of educational advancement (California Department of Public Health, 2010). And in places like San Diego County, California, this puts a major number of people, young and old, quite literally on the border of health and wellness disasters. Diabetes mellitus, notes a 2010 San Diego health assessment posting, is a disease of abnormal carbohydrate metabolism, in which the level of blood glucose, or blood sugar, is above normal. The disease occurs when the body is unable to produce or use insulin, a hormone that helps move glucose from the blood into other cells throughout the body (San Diego County, n.d.). Type 1 generally reflects a naturally occurring demonstration of this; Type 2 is associated with adjustments that the body makes as a result of sugar and fat intake, and thus aligned very directly with obesity and poor health and dietary concerns. The Return Of Martin Guerre Analysis Natalie Zemon Davis The Return of Martin Guerre tells the true story of a peasant named Martin Guerre, who was at the center of a famous case of imposture in France in the sixteenth century. Davis takes the facts of this famous case from two primary sources including a book written by one of the trial judges of the case in Toulouse, Jean de Coras, called Arreste Memorable and one by a lawyer, Guillaume La Sueur, called Admiranda Historia. Davis uses other secondary sources to add details about peasant life including information about marriage, family, economics, religion, village social structure, as well as the political structure of the time. Davis moves beyond the facts and tries to interpret and understand the motivations of the characters in the story. For example, she assumes that Bertrande silently agreed to the fraud of Arnaud du Tilh because she wanted a husband and could not remarry after her husband abandoned her.
