Wainwright Architecture
After the industrial revolution, the development of frame construction, invention of elevator, and
rise of office work made the emergence of skyscraper an inevitable product of social and
technological forces, predominantly in the American cities of New York and Chicago. This marked
a significant transform of architecturestyle from classical to modern. With the conversion of design
concept to be more utilitarian, less classical ornamentations were incorporated in the design of early
skyscrapers like those of most of the medieval architectures had did. However, the Wainwright
building must be an exception and meanwhile an outstanding example of architectural innovations
about functional aestheticism. Its Steel skeleton structure was cladded... Show more content on

Terra Cotta, an Italian words meaning baked earth , is a durable, flexible, and fireproof building
material that made of clay. One of its largest advantages is that no matter how intricate design
patterns, it can be casted into any applicable shapes. The modeling task is much easier and can be
reusable compared with other casting materials, especially with a limited range of modeling tools.
Small details that was hard to be achieved in the stone carving can be accomplished easily in the
malleable material, and once burned under a high temperature, terra cotta will harden and make it
shapes like strong masonry(but comparatively lightweight and cheap in cost). Since its versatile
characteristics, terra cotta became a favorite material of Sullivan when designing the ornamentation
part of the Wainwright building, and such delicate task will be never executed by using other

Persuasive Speech Against Sexual Trafficking
People say that humans should be free from slavery, violence, fear and abuses. What comes to
mind when one says Slavery? Most people generally think about the past when african americans
were forced into slavery, to this day slavery does is exist but in a form of sexual trafficking. In this
persuasive speech I will be arguing to go against sexual trafficking, hoping to expose the ugly truth
about the dark industry. Even though sexual trafficking is not exactly slaveryvictims of sexual
trafficking are portrayed as slaves, sexual trafficking also does more than just physical damage, it
inflicts social impacts. Sexual trafficking is the second largest source of illegal income worldwide
first being drug trafficking, anyone can be a victim of sexual... Show more content on

The definition of a slave is a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey
them. Even though people may not be thinking as sexual trafficking as an act of slavery, I think
that it is because like slavery you are transporting an individual against their will for a benefit for
another individual, Sex trafficking involves an individual being kidnapped, drugged, and raped
thus why it is modern slavery. Like slavery, sexual trafficking pimps use force to ensure that
victims comply as well when being kidnapped from their homes violence is applied in which
slavery has the same concept. Pimps like to beat down on the victims to a point in which they
have low self worth, pride and dignity. Therefore also relating to slavery as one is using force to
make one feel down on themselves to get more of what they want and to also leave a message
that they are greater than you. Some people say that sexual trafficking is one s only source of
income that without this business many people would not get income this is true however,
selling victims for your own benefit goes against morals as you are putting a price tag on one s
freedom for your benefit. This proves that sexual trafficking is not only a modern day slavery act
but also goes against morals for

Pink Floyd Pink Floyd Lyrics
The philosophy behind Pink Floyd songs (Wish you were here)

Philosophy
Ms.May Mayasi
The enigmatic Pink Floyd.
Pink Floyd pushed the boundaries of music into rounds of artistic expression.
Their recording era began during the era of black and white television and ended kn the internet.
They started in the psychedelic era and ended up as a rock band. They happened to have some
misunderstood keywords in their songs and then became a legend.
They had very successful albums, where each album talked about a subject and tried to put the light
on a certain corruption happening in the world.
The wall sold over 23 million copies. The wall talked about a troubled boy who tried desperately to
shut up the world.

What did you dream? It s alright we told you what to dream. You dreamed for a big star, he played
a mean guitar.
The song is full ominous imposing music and mechanical sound effects, it reflects the cold in
human nature of the industry.
The song closes on the sound of an industry party full of posturing without any real human
connection.
The next song is just a vitriolic towards the music industry. It s also sung from the perspective of a
music industry executive.
This time, the executive is selling Pink Floyd on the money and success but he does not even take
time to learn who the band members are.
The band is just fantastic, that is really what i think. Oh, by the way which one is Pink?
That is a reference to the real interactions what the band had with the executives who frequently
pushed numbers and charts success on them without actually caring about the musical inspirations.
The albums packaging reflects jaded themes to the front cover which features a business deal being
done with one side literally getting burned.
On the back of the album we see a faceless businessman in a desert. Reflecting the barren in human
nature of industry executives in Pink Floyd s

The Teacher Had Put On Board
Slightly and squeaky! The door to the classroom flew open as I burst into the room and sat in
my usual seat. This was the day I was going to learn how to do polynomial long division. Good
morning. The professor said, as she walked into the classroom. Almost every one of the students
had at least a pencil and notebook, copying notes that the teacher had put on the board. After
writing the notes down, I said to myself, let me try to do one of the problems that the teacher had
put on board. Surprisingly, I could not start the problem because I did not even understand the first
step. Therefore, I stopped and wait for the professor.
After the teacher did the first problem, but she did not do or put all the steps on the board, she
skipped some of it. She said you guys should have known how to do this stuff already. This is not
an elementary or grade school, so I am not going to do or write every little step. Without paying
close attention and understand every single step and everything she was saying. The first thing I
did was, I immediately started the next one. I started well. I did the first step which was the division
part. Where I had to change the way the problem was writing and to look at that first number of the
guy that I was going to divide into. I got stuck in the middle of step number two which was the
multiplication part. In the multiplication step, I had to multiply the divisor with the quotient.
However, I did not know if I had to put the answer right under

apple product. The iPhone X, in my opinion, has way too many new confusing new features. The
new iphones gradually become more complicated. People have very different opinions. I do not
find the iPhone X very reliable. One of the new features is the Face ID. You can use to unlock
your phone and to make iphone app store purchases. The second new feature Animoji also uses
your face ID. Animoji includes emojis animated based on your facial expressions. The third new

Subject:MANAGEMENT DIRECTIVE: Week #10_01: Fix it or changes will be made
Importance: High
To the KC_based managers:
I have gone over the top. I have been making this point for over one year.
We are getting less than 40 hours of work from a large number of our KC based EMPLOYEES.
The parking lot is sparsely used at 8AM; likewise at 5PM. As managers you either do not know
what your EMPLOYEES are doing; or YOU do not CARE. You have created expectations on the
work effort which allowed this to happen inside Green Inc., creating a very unhealthy
environment. In either case, you have a problem and you will fix it or I will replace you.

I STRONGLY suggest that you call some 7AM, 6PM and Saturday AM team meetings with the
EMPLOYEES who work directly for you. Discuss this serious issue with your team. I suggest that
you call your first meeting tonight. Something is going to change.
I am giving you two weeks to fix this. My measurement will be the parking lot: it should be
substantially full at 7:30 AM and 6:30 PM. The pizza man should show up at 7:30 PM to feed the
starving teams working late. The lot should be half full on Saturday mornings. We have a lot of
work to do. If you do not have enough to keep your teams busy, let me know immediately.
Folks this is a management problem, not an EMPLOYEE problem. Congratulations, you are
management. You have the responsibility for our EMPLOYEES. I will hold you accountable.
You have allowed this to get to this state. You have two weeks. Tick, tock

Designing A New Design For A Distributed Operating System
As the Chief Information Officer working in my business, I will be proposing a new design for
the current network to attempt to improve the quality and productivity of 250 client computers
and 50 servers. My first decision would be to opt to change the system to a distributed operating
system (DOS). I would choose this course of action because instead of centralizing all the
resources on one server, which could lead to problems in the event of a hardware failure, you
could distribute them across multiple instances decreasing the likelihood of system outages, and
making errors easier to deal with ( Definition of Distributed n.d). Although this model will be
much more expensive to implement, I believe that it will lead to better growth in the future. The
reliability of the network will be increased, which leaves room for improvement, adding more
client systems, or even servers. Updating the operating system to a distributed operating system
will increase the overall size and reliability of the database for subscribers to use. The current
server operating system would be Windows Server 2003. I d make minor changes to the server
operating system upgrading to a later version like 2008 or 2012. I chose Windows over Linux,
MAC, and other server OS because I think its performance is suitable for this type of environment.
Windows itself has a high support for most functions (Janowski, 2003). While Linux is a good
operating system, getting support in my opinion would be

Lao Tzu Thoughts From The Tao-Te Ching Summary
A Non Government Mariah Parvizi 7/16/2015 In Thoughts from the Tao te Ching, Lao Tzu
illustrates the optimal way in which a ruler should lead their country in conformity with the Tao.
Lao Tzu points out that a nation s government should put in place the slightest governance in the
lives of its people, because the good in people will come naturally when the people disregard
their efforts to seek these ethics. Finally, Lao Tzu also encourages that a leader be modest and
tolerant by truly taking interest in the civilians needs and concentrating on his home land instead
of seeking issues with other worldly places. If applied, Lao Tzu s image of a government that does
not overuse it s power is only reasonable to an degree. He refer to the labelling... Show more content

This idea has been referred to as the wishful thinking fallacy. In addition to being a mental
favoritism and a poor method to making decisions, wishful thinking is commonly held to be
paradox in an argument when it is expected that because someone wishes something to be true or
false, it is actually true or false. People cannot be this compliant in their journey through life,
people crave desires for motivation to actively reach for goals. Two kinds of motivation defined in
psychology are extrinsic and intrinsic reinforcers. Extrinsic provides external rewards through other
people or objects, while intrinsic rewards are intangible and commonly contribute a feeling of
achievement in simply finishing the act. Lao Tzu primarily brings attention to losing extrinsic
wants, such as power, possessions and other s endorsement. Nonetheless, Loa Tzu also partially
encourages disregarding intrinsic desires for self enhancement, for example in this statement: when
the body s intelligence declines, cleverness and knowledge step forth . Here he conveys that when
people abandon their want to become more intelligent and stop striving to understand and learn,
consequently they will naturally become smarter. Deserting all these wants and personal pursuits to
improve at the same time of

Literary Elements In The Shawl By Cynthia Ozick
The Shawl s Literary Elements:
Analysis of the short story s theme, imagery, and symbols In The Shawl , Cynthia Ozick uses
theme, imagery, and symbols to present her short story s setting. As Ozick presents the plot, she
emphasizes on these three literary elements (theme, imagery, and symbolism) to exaggerate and
organize her short story. The Shawl is about a mother named Rosa, Magda (her blue eyed blonde
hair infant baby), and her older daughter Stella who are forced to march in harsh conditions at a
concentration camp. The characters are weak and struggling to survive. Cynthia Ozick describes the
struggle by stating their body parts are like tumors on sticks . Rosa is forced to carry her infant
baby in a shawl, comparing it to a walking cradle . The shawl that Magda is wrapped in offers her
comfort by proving her with food and entertainment (keeping her calm and quiet). The shawl is
also hiding Magda from the guards, until Stella takes Magda s shawl for herself for warmth.
Magda then begins to scream and yell out for the first time since the characters have been in the
concentration camp. Rosa tries her best to ease her baby by chasing after the shawl, but she is not
fast enough. This results to the guard taking Magda and throwing her onto an ... Show more content

In the beginning of the short story, Ozick explained Magda as someone who is already a floating
angel ; this is a symbol for Magda s upcoming death 2). The symbols Ozick uses are also used to
envision the thoughts and feelings regarding life, death, and survival. There are many objects the
author use to help the reader visualize the plot. As described in the previous paragraph, Ozick
wrote indirectly to provide readers with a more opinionated image; the same goes for her use of
symbolism. She provides symbols to explain beyond what is actually being described. Ozick uses
this writing process to enhance the short

Outsourcing Jobs to Foreign Countries
Outsourcing jobs to foreign countries has long seen to be a hindrance to American people when
in actuality it can help the economy grow. Outsourcing is a sore subject for the majority of
Americans today. Seeing jobs going overseas can be hard pressed to be seen as a good thing,
even harder to believe it can help the economy. Looking at the way outsourcing can help everyone
puts things in perspective on a global level. Imagine third world countries poverty stricken and
hungry! Outsourcing in these areas helps spark the economy across the globe. By outsourcing jobs
here it helps others less fortunate in these types of regions, have more and there by having the

still expand companies to help meet the needs of the growing population. Technology improves
each day allowing more and more Americans the opportunity to have independence and work for
themselves. These trends are also being blamed on outsourcing and have not been tracked by
the government. These numbers do not represent U.S. farm force or self employed. With the
means today people are moving toward working for themselves. The internet has brought a lot of
opportunity to the public in ways of starting their own means of making income. EBay,
overstock dot com, and many other auction houses along with many email based business have
helped with doing business worldwide, and is also being a means of outsourcing for all
countries. Self employment would also explain some of the outsourcing in America. Americans
need to be looking at outsourcing for the way it can help our country and not how to harm it.
Overseas trade is good for the world economy as well as for the U.S. With new technologies and
growing opportunities available to us we have to reconsider our options and the way we do
business. Not just the U.S. the world has to change with the growing economies and technologies.
Looking at the statistics of jobs leaving and jobs being produced the number of unemployed
Americans has decreased since the recession of 2000. Workers in the U.S. need to look at the
market and make the decisions that will lead them to better jobs in the 21st

Comparing Poems The Ball And We Real Cool
Various speakers reflecting on the same topic provide a change in perspective, and give different
levels of insight to the audience. This can be represented when comparing the poems The Ball
and We Real Cool . The Ball, told in a perspective of a matured man contemplating his journey,
brings a more reflective approach to coming of age than the speaker in We Real Cool , who
speak about the subject in the present tense. Additionally, the speaker in The Ball is singular
while the speaker in We Real Cool is clearly a group. This difference conveys a separation between
a specific experience and a collective opinion. These varying speakers present two different
avenues for analyzing the experience of coming of age. The Ball is a poem

Furthermore, Ulpanian and his contemporaries speak of adolescents, under twenty five years of
age, being under the general direction and advice of curators, as a notorious principle of law at

the time of Marcus Aurelius there were only three cases or kinds of Curatorship (Curatela) That
which was founded on the lex Plaetoria, by which a minor who wished to enter into a contract with

Modernist Movement in Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s...
Ford Madox Ford and Virginia Woolf were major contributors to the modernist movement. They,
as well as others (such as James Joyce), were trying something new, by breaking down the
boundaries of traditional writing. Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway are two
particular examples of the genre. These novels were not well received in their own time. As time
went on, however, the attitudes of the literary world changed and were able to finally see these
works for what they really are exemplary pieces of fiction, certainly worth merit.
The Good Soldier was first published in 1915. Rebecca West penned a promising review for the
year, ending with Indeed, this is a much, much better book than any of us deserve (40). ... Show

He questions Dowell s mental balance because he degrades Florence, his wife, for her
indiscretions. Edward Ashburnham is guilty of the very same things, yet he is still regarded as
good people. He also wonders at the meaning of the narrator s nearly phobic concern with
Catholicism, or of the way in which his slurs at Leonora are justified by her attachment to that
persuasion (46).
If the implication is that John Dowell is crazy, Schorer is failing to see other psychological
reasons why a man such as Dowell would think this way. It is evident that our narrator has not
fully processed all of the events before he begins to tell of them. In addition, Dowell obviously
wants to continue thinking highly of Ashburnham the good soldier, and this completes John s
psychological quandary. At the very least, Schorer recognizes the merit of The Good Soldier, and
his essay appears to understand the deliberate complexities of the novel.
Charles Hoffman likens The Good Soldier to an allegory, the breakup of civilization itself,
heading toward disaster (53). Even while the quartet is falling apart, however, they still put on the
proverbial brave face and, to all outward appearances, are just fine. This can be applied to the
world at large. Ford also exposes the evil kernel within the hearts of mankind. To others, these are
good people, but they hold

I believe that a monster is anything that impedes or causes any form of pain to others, be it

which makes them even more ruthless to achieve their goal. In the works of fiction the flood

Even though Jim departs the region, he is always bonded to it. As I looked about me I felt that
the grass was the country, as the water is the sea. The red of the grass made all the great prairie
the colour of wine stains, or of certain seaweeds when they are first washed up. And there was
so much motion in it; the whole country seemed, somehow, to be running. (10) Jim was always
seen as a humble and intelligent man, he never really showed any signs of anger or frustration
throughout this novel. The Nebraska landscape could be seen as a metaphor to Jim, as the land
is both humble and calm; and so is Jim. To relate to a specific part of the Nebraska landscape,
Jim is seemingly symbolized by the river, as he never wants to leave the river, but eventually
does. For the first time it occurred to me that I should be homesick for that river after I left it.
(113) Cather uses this quote to explain how man must move on from their past and look to their
future, describing Jim as the river, and how the water must continuously move. Antonia is seen as
a cheerful and ecstatic girl who loves to be around people, as she is also a reason that the
landscape relates to the characters in the novel. As Antonia said, the whole world was changed by
the snow. (33) When Jim leaves for New York, Antonia changes and becomes a different person,

Essay about The Increase of Transgender people
Most people go about their lives without ever giving thought to their gender. They never blink an
eye when they chose to go into a bathroom, when the room is divided by genders, when they
walk into the store to buy some clothes and go to either the male or female section. However,
there are many people who feel like they don t belong in the section that they are in. These people
who are generally referred to as transgender, struggle everyday with feeling out of place feeling
confused about which bathroom that they should be in or which section in the store they should
shop in. 1 in 30,000 males and 1 in 100,000 females rank high on the Benjamin scale, the scale that

The struggles and issues that transgender individuals face are prominent, however this has not
prevented these people from continuing to pursue living as the opposite sex. Transgender
individuals tend to be heavily stigmatized in Western society for their gender nonconformity. For
example, they may have difficulty finding a job in the cross gender role, be denied access to
health and social services, be ridiculed in public, or be considered sinful and an abomination to
God by their church (Bockting 291). Many transgender people have been the victim of hate
crimes. To garner awareness of this issue, LGBTQ activists created the Transgender Day of
Remembrance for transgender individuals who were victim of hate crimes. These activist were
able to turn something as tragic as a hate crime into a cause for rallying even more support to the
transgender cause. Today, hate crimes are not seen as a deterrent for transgender individuals, but
instead as a reminder as to why fighting for their rights and respect is so very important. Many
people struggle with the symptoms and urges of gender dysphoria for a long time without acting
on them solely because they are not aware that transgenderism is possible. A prime example of
this would be John Nemecek a man who struggled with severe gender dysphoria for a long time. He

River Valley civilizations were the first to occur throughout time. Two of the most advanced were
Egypt and Mesopotamia. Although both had a male dominant government that was supported by a
patriarchal king or leader, Egypt had a strong, centralized government whereas Mesopotamia was
decentralized and was based upon small city states operating independently. To add, Egyptwas also

ultimate rulers. Citizens then realized that much more is at stake for an act of wrongdoing.
However, in Mesopotamian culture, death was simply foreseen as an eternal sleep and was the
given the name Land of No Return that held no importance and did not have any affect when
involved with government. All in all, geography affected the natural occurrences to the
civilizations as well as the frequency of invasion, the evolvement of strong cultural beliefs, and
self sufficiency. The culture in both Mesopotamia and Egypt influenced both civilizations.
However, Egypt s culture had a significant and drastic impact on the governmental structure.
Egypt was claimed to be a theocracy, so the behavior of residents was caused by the pharaoh who
was the source of all law throughout the region and was classified to be a god. This idea ties in
adequately with the idea of Egypt being a centralized type of government. Their leaders were
worshipped and praised respectfully so whatever the pharaoh decided was seen to be morally
correct or important and was to be followed by society. On the other hand, Mesopotamia had a
decentralized government that had little to no relationship with

Examples Of Scapegoating In The Crucible
Evil originates not in the absence of guilt; but in our effort to escape it. (Shannon L. Alder).
Naturally, people do not want to get in trouble. In some cases, people do terrible things to ensure
they do not get into trouble. One of the ways people try to escape trouble is through scapegoating.
A fantastic example of scapegoating can be soon through The Crucible. In Arthur Miller s The
Crucible, the theme of scapegoating is seen through the actions of the girls when they blame
Tituba, condemn John Proctor, and accuse Goody Proctor of being witches. For example, the
theme of scapegoating can be seen through Abigail Williams blaming Tituba. For instance, Abigail
starts to scream, I never called him! Tituba, Tituba... She made me do it! She made Betty do it!
(Miller, 41). Abigail is saying that Tituba was the one that made her call the devil. Blaming Tituba
for making her and Betty summon the antichrist, Abigail is using Tituba as... Show more content on

For example, Hale explains to John Proctor, Abigail were stabbed... ...Aye. (Act II, 72). Abigail

scapegoating technique. The girl, the William s girl,... ...spirit pushed it in. (Act II, p. 70 71).
Abigail is saying that Goody Proctor works with Devil. She says this because she knows that the
town trusts her word, so she can say this without being doubted. Lastly, when Hale is questioning
Abigail about the story, he says, A poppet were discovered... ...It is a lie (Act II, 72). Abigail
chooses to lie about the story when questioned about it. Abigail lies about the story because she
would get in trouble otherwise and wants to get Goody Proctor accused instead. Using Goody
Proctor as a scapegoat, Abigail escapes trouble and is not discovered to be a liar by the

and iron. This shows how much armor the Knights wore as to the Samurai. The Knights would

The Great Impact On The United Kingdom
The 1930s have been a decade of great changes in the United Kingdom. Three succes sive
National governments left the British People quite lost in terms of leadership, especial ly in
those times of Great Depression. The raising of the taxes and the massive wave of
unemployment led the poor to become even poorer but it also saw the expansion of the middle
class among the society. Indeed, this period saw the falling of prices of goods, the reduction of
the number of large families, the settling of the reduction of working hours and the outbreak of
paid holidays by the Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain which let families in less need.
Moreover, the outbreak of household electrical goods such as televisions or vacuum cleaners
marked the development of the popular culture and, therefore, of the middle class . On the other
hand, the quantity of poor remained massive among the working class and the rising of the
conservative party after the appalling failure of Ramsay MacDonald s government has made a
contribution to it. Those changes stimulated interest from many authors in the postwar literature
and the role of class has been crucial in the wri ting of the period. Between two wars, it was the
end of the birth setting your future. Many people didn t know where they belonged anymore and
trying to figure that out was the aim of most authors. Using their experience in their social classof

In 1990 seven percent of serial killers were women (Aamodt, 2014). Aileen Wuornos is notorious
for killing seven men in the years 1989 to 1990 along a Florida interstate. This research paper will

events of her life have affected her psychologically. Aileen faced many life altering events in her
life that sculpted her into the person she was and died as.

like delusional thoughts that could have caused her to believe the men she was with were going to

violence was okay. She learned to disconnect herself from her body in order to cope with the bad
things happening to her so that she did not have to feel them. She did not have a nurturing
caregiver so she never learned how to treat others decently. This made Aileen believe it was okay
to be treated poorly by others and to treat others bad herself. Next is the cognitive perspective,

Meiji Reforms Essay
Evaluate the success of the Meiji Reforms in undertaking imperialism in Asia. The Meiji reforms
were significantly successful in undertaking imperialism in Asia. Imperialism can be understood as
expanding a country s power through increasing one s influence, gaining more territory and
controlling the region s economy. For japan to undertake imperialism in Asia they needed to
establish a centralised government, a strong military, a technologically advanced and unified nation
working together for the same goal. They achieved this by introducing the Meji reforms. From
1868 to 1912, Japan grew from a technologically backwards nation to a world power, defeating both
China and Russia swiftly and decisively. In addition to this, Japan had succeeded in establishing a
parliament, drafting a constitution, developed a strong legal, financial and economic system,
created a strong industry and improved social welfare and education standards. These improvements
and implementations made Japan internationally recognised and respected as a modernised country.
Looking back, we can identify numerous reasons that led to the success of undertaking imperialism
in Asia through the use of the Meiji reforms. The military reform had a significant role in
undertaking imperialism in Asia. The military reform of Meiji Japan was focused on establishing a
powerful and unified national military under the ultimate leadership of the emperor. To achieve

Advantages Of Sacrificial Anode
Engineering Chemistry (CHY1001)
Digital Assignment 1
Ans1. a) Sacrificial anodic protection:
Sacrificial anodes are exceptionally active metals used to prevent less active metal surfaces from
eroding. They are constructed from a metal alloy having a higher negative electrode potential
than the metal surface it will be used to safeguard. The sacrificial anode will get depleted in place
of the metal it is protecting. This is why it is referred to as sacrificial anode.
The materials used for making a sacrificial anode are either comparatively pure active metals such
as Zinc and Magnesium, or alloys of Magnesium or Aluminium precisely developed to be used as a
sacrificial anode.
They are used to protect water heaters, pipelines, underground tanks, hulls of ships, etc. (Sacrificial
anode used for cathodic protection.)

resistant metal becomes the cathode. Usually the cathodic metal corrodes very less or not at all in
this form of couple. Due to the electric currents and dissimilar metals involved, this type of
corrosion is called galvanic or two metal corrosion. It is an electrochemical

Examples Of Child Care Observation
Step 1: Participant.
The child I chose to observe was a brown hair, Hispanic 15 month old girl. The reason I chose to
observe her is because I have seen her at the daycare before and she is always so happy, and has
such a fun personality. When I began to observe her she was just getting to the center, and her
parents just dropped her off.
Step 2: Consent. You need to insure an adult responsible for the child has given you permission to
observe the child.
I had to get consent from the director of Oakwood Methodist Daycare, as well as the parent. I
briefly described to both the director and the parent what my paper was going to be about, and
asked if it would be okay if I observed the little girl in the infant room. The director had no
problem with it. The mother also agreed to it, but she did ask to obtain a copy of the paper before
submitting it just so she could read it, and make sure everything looked good.
Step 3: Procedure.
The place of observation took place at my work, before I clocked in for the day. I work at Oakwood
Methodist Preschool/Daycare. I went in to the daycare at about 9:00, which is just free play/

Dietary Guidelines For The 2015 Community Health Needs...
When it comes to fruit and vegetable, accessibility and affordability are not the only factors that
play a role if someone will consume them. This can be depicted in the 2015 Community Health
Needs Assessment where of those who were surveyed, only 36.8% of adults in the medium to high
income level reported consuming the recommended daily fruitand vegetableintake. In the USDA s
recently released 2015 2020 dietary guidelines for Americans, the guidelines suggest that
individual factors such as knowledge, skills and personal preferences can also have an impact on
if someone will eat more fruits and vegetables (USDA, 2016). At some point in our lives, we are
all taught that we should eat fruits and vegetables because they are good for us. However, for some
individuals, this is as far as the education on the topic goes. Having a true understanding of why we
need to eat fruits and vegetables, what to look for when we go to buy them, how to store them
when you bring them home, and how to go about preparing them while keeping the nutritional
benefits in tact are topics that can help enhance an individual s likeliness to eat fruits and vegetables
more regularly. In an effort to increase knowledge, skills, and attitudes regarding fruits and
vegetables, local health departments, health systems, community centers, and other local affiliates

Dody Dysmorphic Disorder
Body dysmorphic disorder or BDD is a type pf mental illness in which you can t stop thinking
about a flaw in your appearance. You intensely obsess over your appearance and body image,
often for many hours a day. Your perceived flaw causes you significant distress, and your
obsession impacts your ability to function in your daily life. You may seek out numerous
cosmetic procedures or excessively exercise to try to fix your perceived flaw, but you re never
satisfied. Body dysmorphic disorder is also known as dysmorphophobia, the fear of having a
deformity. Although the exact cause of BDD is still unclear, experts believe it is related to
problems with serotonin, one of the brain s chemical neurotransmitters. Poor regulation of
serotonin also plays a role in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and other anxiety disorders,
as well as depression Some people may be more prone to problems with serotonin balance,
including those with family members who have problems with anxiety or depression. This may
help explain why some people develop BDD but others don t. Cultural messages can also play a
role in BDD by reinforcing somebody s concerns about appearance. Critical messages or unkind
teasing about appearance as someone is growing up may also contribute to a person s sensitivity to
BDD. But while cultural messages, criticism, and teasing might harm someone s body image, these
things alone usually do not result in BDD. People with BDD obsess over their appearance

Summary Of Raymond Bonner s Anatomy Of Injustice
For my second essay, I chose to critique Raymond Bonner s Anatomy of Injustice. It was
published in 2012 in the United States by Alfred A. Knopf, a division of Random House Inc. I
thoroughly enjoyed this book. It goes into the profound problems with the Death Penalty in
criminal justice. Such as incompetent lawyers, racial profiling, and wrongful convictions. In
particular, the Case of Edward Lee Elmore. In January 1982, a white South Carolina widow
named Dorothy Edwards was found dead in the closet of her bedroom in Greenwood. The crime
shocked the town, not merely because it happened but because it was exceptionally bloody. As a

powerful and feared prosecutor, who had a ferocious temper and a reputation as a bit of a bully.
Rather than fight Jones, Anderson and Beasley accepted the state s case more than they challenged
it, even though there were tremendous holes in the case.
The case was loaded with doubt. There were doubts about fingerprints, about the charge of rape
that prosecutors added to the murder charge and in particular about the role played by Jimmy
Holloway, the neighbor who was so friendly with Edwards that he had a key to her house and
liked to slip over in the afternoon for a cocktail. Some people thought there was more to the

Holloway who had led police to her body and who had given them an elaborate tour of the death

The story of Beth Elliott s life in the movie, Stronger, is a heart wrenching tale of an incredibly
talented musician with deep seated issues of depression. The movie s title was taken from her
first hit song she wrote and recorded. Elliott s life from the very start was surrounded in music.
In the beginning of the film she is shown at the age of two, giggling and happily performing
songs she had made up to entertain her family during a long car ride. As both her parents were
musically inclined, it is no wonder she possessed such a natural talent and love for music.
Throughout the film, Elliott is portrayed as having two entirely different personas. An extrovert in

exceptionally magnificent performance with her blues rock band, joyful emotions run high. On
stage, Elliott leads her audience to believe that her lyrics in her famous song Stronger, God I just
want to be set free, from this black dog that chains me are an uplifting expression of resilience
after courageously finding her own way after divorce. In fact, many fans repeatedly shower her
with compliments of how much this song reflects their own struggles. Suddenly, the film cuts from
bright lights and stardom to a dark and lonely room, thick with desolation. In those moments of
solitude, it is clear that she wrote these words not about her resilience, but instead encompassing
her own lifelong struggle with depression. Even through the realization of her childhood dream of

President Obama s Semblance Of Education Reform Essay
Adversaries in the Race to the Top While many supported President Obama s semblance of
education reform in Race to the Top, various factions were vehemently against RTT and its
implementation. Republicans primarily stand against federal involvement in state and local
schools. The party opposed RTT advanced Common Core State Standards, which promote a one
size fits all approach to education(Spring, 2015, 63). Along with political factions, those majorly
impacted by RTT objected to its premise. The main teachers unions in the U.S., the National
Education Associationas well as the American Federation of Teachers, highlighted several points of
disagreement in RTT which would lead to challenges in implementation. At the time, the NEA said
it cannot support RTT s endorsement of using test scores for evaluating teachers, increasing the
number of charter schools, and bolstering what the union calls fast track alternative routes to
teacher licensure (Sawchuk 2009). Additionally, the AFT expressed concerns about RTT and how
much the program helps students, whether it is fair to teachers, whether it is transparent to the
public, and whether it requires shared responsibility (Weingarten 2009). Along with teachers
unions, members of academia spearheaded critiques of RTT. Joe Onosko s eight point manifesto
adequately details the concerns of educators at the time of implementation. The flaws of the plan
(RTT) are as follows:

Kant Turning Points
Alper Г–zesmer
Preliminary Study
Question 1: What are the three versions of the Copernican Turn?
Accordingly, Kant s aim is to rescue metaphysics from an endless war by embarking a turning point
in metaphysics as Nicolaus Copernicus did in cosmology. Copernicus denied the Ptolemaic
geocentric cosmological system because of its insufficiency about the explanation of the movement
of the planets. He brought a solution to the problem of the explaining movements of the planets by
rejecting the assumption that the Earth was motionless and he suggested that motions of the
planets are the result of the observer. With this change in perspective Copernicus tried to give a
solid foundation to cosmology. In regard to this point, in the Preface to Second ... Show more

The world conforms to our modes of knowing and we know it only as it appears to us. According
to Kant, our knowledge begins with experience but does not arise out of experience ; experience
is already determined by the subject s a priori modes of knowledge. In other words, the objects of
experience are already conditioned by the subject s constitution and what human reason knows as
necessary and universal is what it has already put into experience. Simply, that means all our
experience is synthetically produced and he locates the origin of these productions in our faculties.
To wit, we can only know what we produce as a condition of our

With the right ingredients, speed, quality and leadership, Chipotle has reinvented the fast food
business. Serving food with integrity has produced big profits.
Doing business overseas takes time and patience. It requires new relationships to be established;
therefore, it is important to have an established business model that works according to plan. The
most favorable markets are politically stable developed and developing nations with free market
systems, low inflation, and low private sector dept. The less desirable markets are politically
unstable developing nations with mixed or command economies or developing nations where
speculative financial bubbles have led to excess borrowing.

The Nordic countries are a culturally and politically overlapping group of parliamentary
democracies located in Northern Europe. Individually, they tend to score near the top of most
global achievement lists, in areas like women s rights, environmentalism, quality of education, and
homeless outreach. When taken together, they comprise the 7th largest area in the world. At 1,3
million square miles, that is about the same size as India. But unlike similarly large nations, the
Nordic countries have some of the lowest population density in the world, with only 26 million total
residents. This is mostly because half of their land is uninhabited arctic, if you include Greenland.
But even without Greenland, the rest of the remaining countries are still larger than Germany,
France, and Italy combined. Economically they are quite well off. When compared with the
European Union, the Nordic countries have had much stronger GDP growth over the past ten years.
Only Finland has changed its currency over to the Euro. Combined, their GDP reached 1.7
trillion dollars in 2015, which would make them the 12th richest area in the world, just below
Canada. Per capita, Norway s GDP alone is 80% higher than the Eurozone s, and it s residents
enjoy the highest standard of living in the world. In fact, all of the primary Nordic countries rank in
the top 25 highest standards of living, with Norway being

Bohemian Rhapsody Meaning
The band Queen has been put in history as one of the greatest bands in rock admitted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 2001 with Bohemian Rhapsody being their highest rated song.
The song was written by Freddie Mercury and debuted on the A Night at the Opera album in 1975.
The song was at number one for nine weeks in London then the U.S., and later the song was re
released and became number one again. Queennever gave out the meaning of their songs, which left
the listeners the option to interpret their songs whichever way they wanted. However, Bohemian
Rhapsodywas especially made by Freddie to say he was coming out the closet or admitting he was
gay. The song shows him coming out through the lyrics, dramatic instrumentals, and the... Show

The song comes in slowly with a piano and then reaches the guitar; the slow start with the first
stanza gives off a confused feeling. As stated in the earlier paragraph the first couple of stanzas
Freddie does not want to admit to his stances on sexuality. He s battling his mind over what he
wants so the increase of instruments and pace in the second stanza provokes a little jitter to the
listener. Giving the impression of Freddie s confusion over announcing the truth. Going into the
next couple of stanzas the music gets slower with a piano, triangle, guitar, and drums, creating the
feeling of depression, as Mercury knows that he is gay and wishes he wasn t. After that the music
gets playful and similar to an opera setting the play of high energetic notes and beats with low quiet
fragments to accompany the thought of the people hearing the news. This remained as the segment
of the song that represents the judgment of the crowd that Freddie stands afraid of. The portrayal
of the low notes sets the timid feeling that he has of all the judging, high notes, which will be
enacted. The next stanza the music picks up creating a happy feeling displaying that Mercury has
acknowledged his feelings and will move on despite the punishment and shuns from others. As the
song closes the instruments fade out as Mercury says he s

Body System And Homeostasis
Each body system contributes to homeostasis and to other systems of the whole organism. No
body system works in isolation and welfare of the person depends on the welfare of all systems
that interact in the body. An alteration in a system generally has implications for several additional
body systems.
Nervous system:
Since the nervous system does not store nutrients, it must receive a continuous supply from food.
Any interruption in blood flow could mean brain damage or death. The nervous system maintains
homeostasis controlling and regulating the other body parts. A balance point deviation acts as a
stimulus to a receiver, which sends a nerve impulse to a control center in the brain. The brain tells

Revolutionary War American Values
To be an American during the time of the Revolutionary War had a lot of different meanings to
many different people. To white men it meant freedom. To many people and men specifically it
mean that they wanted to have freedom from Great Britain. To women it mean that you had to
do as your husband or head of male figure said or wanted you to do for him.Women were to care
for their children, keep the house in order, and tend to their men. To slaves it meant that you
were to also do as your owner said or wanted you to do. The American values meant and still
mean a lot to people. Values were to be obeyed and often the rule of house. Values such as religion,

Litigation vs. ADR
Litigation v. ADR There are many legal systems and measures that are available to people when
they run into problems. These alternatives generally accelerate the resolution of disputes without
the need for initiating or continuing the formal and costly process of litigation. These alternatives
are generally referred to as that of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) (Sherman, 2012).
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) comprises the resolution of a matter by a method other
than traditional litigation. There are three main kinds of ADR: negotiation, mediation and
arbitration. ADR is often preferred over traditional litigation because it involves a less formal
atmosphere than the court room and is less expensive and time consuming than litigation.
Furthermore, matters can be resolved in private and kept confidential, and the parties can
frequently select the decision maker, who will often have commercial or industrial experience.
ADR also helps to reduce the caseloads for courts that are way overcrowded (Alternative Dispute
Resolution, 2011). The popularity of ADR has grown steadily over the years with almost 90% of
all cases resolved through some form of ADR before trial. Typically, advantages of ADR over trial
include such things as: less formal and therefore less intimidating, quicker resolution, less
expensive, heard by an arbitrator or mediator, at the end, an opinion is delivered and after binding
ADR, the opinion can usually be filed with a court and turned into

Good Food Revolution Analysis
In the book Good Food Revolution, it focuses on the main point of Will Allen s life and how he
has always been around food. I believe the book does a good job with tying in different
connections and references with food and with Will Allen since he has grown up around food
ever since he was little. When the book states The fate of a seed can be predicted by the health of
the soil where it takes the rootI believe that Will Allen is referring and connecting it back to
himself. I believe he relates this to himself because a plant s roots are surrounded by soil and
Will Allen has planted his roots around farming and food. A plant needs soil to survive and Will
Allen needed farming to survive. His whole life and job has revolved around planting. A plant
lives off of what it knows and its surroundings and Will Allen did the same. His parents planted
the seed to get the initial start in farming so he picks up where they left off. Even though he was
not into farming when he was younger he learned to grow and find a passion for farming as he
grew older because it has always been around him. No matter where he went he held onto farming
because that is all he knew. I believe this connection between Will Allen and the quote about the
plant enhances and helps tell the story of how Will Allen got involved in farming.
The connection The Good Food Revolution tries to also make is between ecology and human
development. Ecology is about dealing with relations of organisms to one another

Argumentative Essay On Puppy Mills
Cook county recently released a new ordinance prohibiting pet stores from selling dogs that were
born in puppy mills. Puppy mills are dog breeders that put profit over dogs, and breed dogs with
inhumane and unsanitary conditions. Usually, dogs from pet stores come from puppy mills. This
regulation came after affect from countless complaints in the Chicagoland area that pets are
obtaining diseases and dying within weeks of adoption. In a report from Mrs. Bagby s 8th graders,
89% of students know someone who has had a dogor cat from a petstore. Lea Karpov, a student in
Mrs. Bagby s class exclaimed Puppymills are cruel and unfathomable. This regulation came after

This leaves us all in confusion: how are the other 7,000 puppy mills functioning without
oversight? Well, there are no regulations on how these puppy mills operate. Picture this: A huge
dark room with small metal cages stacked on top of each other, the air filled with the
whimpering and crying of the puppies trapped inside them. When puppies are bred in these
unsanitary conditions, there is usually just a sole survivor out of a litter of 8, similar to Hunger
Games in which only the strong prevails. According to the Puppy Mill Project, an outgoing
campaign to stop for profit breeders (breeders who put money over dog welfare), over 2 million
puppies are sold from puppy mills each year, with 1.2 million slaughtered in the mills due to
overpopulation. In fact, some puppies from the mills are sold on the black market, to be a part of

Thre Views of Social Darwinism
The concept of Social Darwinism was a widely accepted theory in the nineteenth century. Various
intellectual, and political figures from each side of the political spectrum grasped the theory and
interpreted it in various ways. In this paper, we will discuss three different nineteenth century
thinkers and their conception of Social Darwinism. The conservative, Heinrich von Treitschke, and
liberal Herbert Spencer both gave arguments on the usefulness of competition between people on a
global scale. The anarchist, Peter Kropotkin, refuted the belief of constant competition among
members of the same species and emphasized mutual aid. Heinrich von Treitschke s defense of
Social Darwinismwas a direct result of his view on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To Treitschke, society would only have a place for Jews if they decided to convert to Christianity
and assimilate to the culture of their respective European nation implying that the Christian
European was superior to that of the Jew. English liberal Herbert Spencer gave his own defense
of Social Darwinism and conflict between human beings. Spencer believed that competition
between animals helped advance their spieces to a higher level over a long period of time; he
extended this argument to humans and warfare. Much like Treitschke, Spencer argued that warfare
and competition between humans had exemplified the ability to root out the weak from the earth.
The world to Spencer was a continual struggle between the strong and intelligent, to that of the
weak and feeble minded resulting a continual progression of intellect and honing of the senses.
According to Spencer, if societies were not able to adapt to compete, they would cease to exist.
Spencer believed that wars of primitive man were necessary because they were instrumental in
developing the structure of their growing societies. As a result of war, tribes were encouraged to
confederate, confederations gave way to small nations, and large nations progressed into large

  • 2. Wainwright Architecture After the industrial revolution, the development of frame construction, invention of elevator, and rise of office work made the emergence of skyscraper an inevitable product of social and technological forces, predominantly in the American cities of New York and Chicago. This marked a significant transform of architecturestyle from classical to modern. With the conversion of design concept to be more utilitarian, less classical ornamentations were incorporated in the design of early skyscrapers like those of most of the medieval architectures had did. However, the Wainwright building must be an exception and meanwhile an outstanding example of architectural innovations about functional aestheticism. Its Steel skeleton structure was cladded... One of its largest advantages is that no matter how intricate design patterns, it can be casted into any applicable shapes. The modeling task is much easier and can be reusable compared with other casting materials, especially with a limited range of modeling tools. Small details that was hard to be achieved in the stone carving can be accomplished easily in the malleable material, and once burned under a high temperature, terra cotta will harden and make it shapes like strong masonry(but comparatively lightweight and cheap in cost). Since its versatile characteristics, terra cotta became a favorite material of Sullivan when designing the ornamentation part of the Wainwright building, and such delicate task will be never executed by using other ... Most people generally think about the past when african americans were forced into slavery, to this day slavery does is exist but in a form of sexual trafficking. In this persuasive speech I will be arguing to go against sexual trafficking, hoping to expose the ugly truth about the dark industry. Even though sexual trafficking is not exactly slaveryvictims of sexual trafficking are portrayed as slaves, sexual trafficking also does more than just physical damage, it inflicts social impacts. Sexual trafficking is the second largest source of illegal income worldwide first being drug trafficking, anyone can be a victim of sexual... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The definition of a slave is a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them. Even though people may not be thinking as sexual trafficking as an act of slavery, I think that it is because like slavery you are transporting an individual against their will for a benefit for another individual, Sex trafficking involves an individual being kidnapped, drugged, and raped thus why it is modern slavery. Like slavery, sexual trafficking pimps use force to ensure that victims comply as well when being kidnapped from their homes violence is applied in which slavery has the same concept. Pimps like to beat down on the victims to a point in which they have low self worth, pride and dignity. Therefore also relating to slavery as one is using force to make one feel down on themselves to get more of what they want and to also leave a message that they are greater than you. Some people say that sexual trafficking is one s only source of income that without this business many people would not get income this is true however, selling victims for your own benefit goes against morals as you are putting a price tag on one s freedom for your benefit. This proves that sexual trafficking is not only a modern day slavery act but also goes against morals for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pink Floyd pushed the boundaries of music into rounds of artistic expression. Their recording era began during the era of black and white television and ended kn the internet. They started in the psychedelic era and ended up as a rock band. They happened to have some misunderstood keywords in their songs and then became a legend. This time, the executive is selling Pink Floyd on the money and success but he does not even take time to learn who the band members are. The band is just fantastic, that is really what i think. This was the day I was going to learn how to do polynomial long division. Good morning. The professor said, as she walked into the classroom. Almost every one of the students had at least a pencil and notebook, copying notes that the teacher had put on the board. After writing the notes down, I said to myself, let me try to do one of the problems that the teacher had put on board. Surprisingly, I could not start the problem because I did not even understand the first step. Therefore, I stopped and wait for the professor. After the teacher did the first problem, but she did not do or put all the steps on the board, she skipped some of it. She said you guys should have known how to do this stuff already. This is not an elementary or grade school, so I am not going to do or write every little step. Without paying close attention and understand every single step and everything she was saying. The first thing I did was, I immediately started the next one. I started well. I did the first step which was the division part. Where I had to change the way the problem was writing and to look at that first number of the guy that I was going to divide into. • 8. Designing A New Design For A Distributed Operating System As the Chief Information Officer working in my business, I will be proposing a new design for the current network to attempt to improve the quality and productivity of 250 client computers and 50 servers. My first decision would be to opt to change the system to a distributed operating system (DOS). I would choose this course of action because instead of centralizing all the resources on one server, which could lead to problems in the event of a hardware failure, you could distribute them across multiple instances decreasing the likelihood of system outages, and making errors easier to deal with ( Definition of Distributed n.d). Although this model will be much more expensive to implement, I believe that it will lead to better growth in the future. The reliability of the network will be increased, which leaves room for improvement, adding more client systems, or even servers. Updating the operating system to a distributed operating system will increase the overall size and reliability of the database for subscribers to use. The current server operating system would be Windows Server 2003. I d make minor changes to the server operating system upgrading to a later version like 2008 or 2012. I chose Windows over Linux, MAC, and other server OS because I think its performance is suitable for this type of environment. Windows itself has a high support for most functions (Janowski, 2003). While Linux is a good operating system, getting support in my opinion would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lao Tzu Thoughts From The Tao-Te Ching Summary A Non Government Mariah Parvizi 7/16/2015 In Thoughts from the Tao te Ching, Lao Tzu illustrates the optimal way in which a ruler should lead their country in conformity with the Tao. Lao Tzu points out that a nation s government should put in place the slightest governance in the lives of its people, because the good in people will come naturally when the people disregard their efforts to seek these ethics. Finally, Lao Tzu also encourages that a leader be modest and tolerant by truly taking interest in the civilians needs and concentrating on his home land instead of seeking issues with other worldly places. This idea has been referred to as the wishful thinking fallacy. In addition to being a mental favoritism and a poor method to making decisions, wishful thinking is commonly held to be paradox in an argument when it is expected that because someone wishes something to be true or false, it is actually true or false. People cannot be this compliant in their journey through life, people crave desires for motivation to actively reach for goals. Two kinds of motivation defined in psychology are extrinsic and intrinsic reinforcers. Extrinsic provides external rewards through other people or objects, while intrinsic rewards are intangible and commonly contribute a feeling of achievement in simply finishing the act. Lao Tzu primarily brings attention to losing extrinsic wants, such as power, possessions and other s endorsement. Nonetheless, Loa Tzu also partially encourages disregarding intrinsic desires for self enhancement, for example in this statement: when the body s intelligence declines, cleverness and knowledge step forth . Here he conveys that when people abandon their want to become more intelligent and stop striving to understand and learn, consequently they will naturally become smarter. • 10. Literary Elements In The Shawl By Cynthia Ozick The Shawl s Literary Elements: Analysis of the short story s theme, imagery, and symbols In The Shawl , Cynthia Ozick uses theme, imagery, and symbols to present her short story s setting. As Ozick presents the plot, she emphasizes on these three literary elements (theme, imagery, and symbolism) to exaggerate and organize her short story. The Shawl is about a mother named Rosa, Magda (her blue eyed blonde hair infant baby), and her older daughter Stella who are forced to march in harsh conditions at a concentration camp. The characters are weak and struggling to survive. Cynthia Ozick describes the struggle by stating their body parts are like tumors on sticks . Rosa is forced to carry her infant baby in a shawl, comparing it to a walking cradle . The shawl that Magda is wrapped in offers her comfort by proving her with food and entertainment (keeping her calm and quiet). The shawl is also hiding Magda from the guards, until Stella takes Magda s shawl for herself for warmth. Magda then begins to scream and yell out for the first time since the characters have been in the concentration camp. Rosa tries her best to ease her baby by chasing after the shawl, but she is not fast enough. This results to the guard taking Magda and throwing her onto an ... Outsourcing is a sore subject for the majority of Americans today. Seeing jobs going overseas can be hard pressed to be seen as a good thing, even harder to believe it can help the economy. Looking at the way outsourcing can help everyone puts things in perspective on a global level. Imagine third world countries poverty stricken and hungry! • 14. Modernist Movement in Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s... Ford Madox Ford and Virginia Woolf were major contributors to the modernist movement. They, as well as others (such as James Joyce), were trying something new, by breaking down the boundaries of traditional writing. Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway are two particular examples of the genre. These novels were not well received in their own time. As time went on, however, the attitudes of the literary world changed and were able to finally see these works for what they really are exemplary pieces of fiction, certainly worth merit. The Good Soldier was first published in 1915. Rebecca West penned a promising review for the year, ending with Indeed, this is a much, much better book than any of us deserve (40). ... Edward Ashburnham is guilty of the very same things, yet he is still regarded as good people. He also wonders at the meaning of the narrator s nearly phobic concern with Catholicism, or of the way in which his slurs at Leonora are justified by her attachment to that persuasion (46). If the implication is that John Dowell is crazy, Schorer is failing to see other psychological reasons why a man such as Dowell would think this way. It is evident that our narrator has not fully processed all of the events before he begins to tell of them. In addition, Dowell obviously wants to continue thinking highly of Ashburnham the good soldier, and this completes John s psychological quandary. At the very least, Schorer recognizes the merit of The Good Soldier, and his essay appears to understand the deliberate complexities of the novel. Charles Hoffman likens The Good Soldier to an allegory, the breakup of civilization itself, heading toward disaster (53). They believe in what they are doing, which makes them even more ruthless to achieve their goal. In the works of fiction the flood strives to end all war by making all join it. In Willa Cather s My Antonia, Cather describes the Nebraska landscape to convey her attitude toward each character and to introduce and support the novels overall theme. As the novel progresses, Cather constantly explains the theme of man s relationship with land and as the overall theme of this novel. Throughout the course of this story, Cather s language institutes an unthought of deeper meaning to this account and clearly identifies relationship between man and the land they live on as the main theme. And there was so much motion in it; the whole country seemed, somehow, to be running. (10) Jim was always seen as a humble and intelligent man, he never really showed any signs of anger or frustration throughout this novel. The Nebraska landscape could be seen as a metaphor to Jim, as the land is both humble and calm; and so is Jim. Angered by the disappearance of his gun and Wolf, he decides to return to the ninepin amphitheater but does not find the dwarfish men. Rip decides to return to his small village. Along the way, he meets strangers who stare at him; thus, he discovers that his beard has grown a foot long. Rip then discovers how his small village has grown; he does not recognize the new faces, and they do not recognize him. Again, Rip blames the flagon for his confusion. They never blink an eye when they chose to go into a bathroom, when the room is divided by genders, when they walk into the store to buy some clothes and go to either the male or female section. However, there are many people who feel like they don t belong in the section that they are in. These people who are generally referred to as transgender, struggle everyday with feeling out of place feeling confused about which bathroom that they should be in or which section in the store they should shop in. 1 in 30,000 males and 1 in 100,000 females rank high on the Benjamin scale, the scale that is used for the identification of persons experiencing gender dysphoria... The struggles and issues that transgender individuals face are prominent, however this has not prevented these people from continuing to pursue living as the opposite sex. Transgender individuals tend to be heavily stigmatized in Western society for their gender nonconformity. For example, they may have difficulty finding a job in the cross gender role, be denied access to health and social services, be ridiculed in public, or be considered sinful and an abomination to God by their church (Bockting 291). Many transgender people have been the victim of hate crimes. To garner awareness of this issue, LGBTQ activists created the Transgender Day of Remembrance for transgender individuals who were victim of hate crimes. These activist were able to turn something as tragic as a hate crime into a cause for rallying even more support to the transgender cause. Today, hate crimes are not seen as a deterrent for transgender individuals, but instead as a reminder as to why fighting for their rights and respect is so very important. Many people struggle with the symptoms and urges of gender dysphoria for a long time without acting on them solely because they are not aware that transgenderism is possible. Although both had a male dominant government that was supported by a patriarchal king or leader, Egypt had a strong, centralized government whereas Mesopotamia was decentralized and was based upon small city states operating independently. With all these surrounding them, invasion wasn t such a prime concern, so they evolved a complex and hearty view towards the afterlife. Religion was then tied into government, making it all the more significant because pharaohs were viewed as god like and were considered to be ultimate rulers. Citizens then realized that much more is at stake for an act of wrongdoing. However, in Mesopotamian culture, death was simply foreseen as an eternal sleep and was the given the name Land of No Return that held no importance and did not have any affect when involved with government. All in all, geography affected the natural occurrences to the civilizations as well as the frequency of invasion, the evolvement of strong cultural beliefs, and self sufficiency. The culture in both Mesopotamia and Egypt influenced both civilizations. However, Egypt s culture had a significant and drastic impact on the governmental structure. Egypt was claimed to be a theocracy, so the behavior of residents was caused by the pharaoh who was the source of all law throughout the region and was classified to be a god. This idea ties in adequately with the idea of Egypt being a centralized type of government. Their leaders were worshipped and praised respectfully so whatever the pharaoh decided was seen to be morally correct or important and was to be followed by society. Three succes sive National governments left the British People quite lost in terms of leadership, especial ly in those times of Great Depression. The raising of the taxes and the massive wave of unemployment led the poor to become even poorer but it also saw the expansion of the middle class among the society. The sacrificial anode will get depleted in place of the metal it is protecting. This is why it is referred to as sacrificial anode. The materials used for making a sacrificial anode are either comparatively pure active metals such as Zinc and Magnesium, or alloys of Magnesium or Aluminium precisely developed to be used as a sacrificial anode. Poor regulation of serotonin also plays a role in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and other anxiety disorders, as well as depression Some people may be more prone to problems with serotonin balance, including those with family members who have problems with anxiety or depression. This may help explain why some people develop BDD but others don t. Cultural messages can also play a role in BDD by reinforcing somebody s concerns about appearance. Critical messages or unkind teasing about appearance as someone is growing up may also contribute to a person s sensitivity to BDD. But while cultural messages, criticism, and teasing might harm someone s body image, these things alone usually do not result in BDD. People with BDD obsess over their appearance ... • 38. Summary Of Raymond Bonner s Anatomy Of Injustice For my second essay, I chose to critique Raymond Bonner s Anatomy of Injustice. It was published in 2012 in the United States by Alfred A. Knopf, a division of Random House Inc. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It goes into the profound problems with the Death Penalty in criminal justice. Such as incompetent lawyers, racial profiling, and wrongful convictions. In particular, the Case of Edward Lee Elmore. In January 1982, a white South Carolina widow named Dorothy Edwards was found dead in the closet of her bedroom in Greenwood. The crime shocked the town, not merely because it happened but because it was exceptionally bloody. They consulted no independent experts, no pathologists, no fingerprint specialists. They didn t even read the police interviews with the witnesses, which the prosecution had turned over to them by law. They simply were plowed under by William Townes Jones III, Greenwood s renowned, powerful and feared prosecutor, who had a ferocious temper and a reputation as a bit of a bully. Rather than fight Jones, Anderson and Beasley accepted the state s case more than they challenged it, even though there were tremendous holes in the case. The case was loaded with doubt. There were doubts about fingerprints, about the charge of rape that prosecutors added to the murder charge and in particular about the role played by Jimmy Holloway, the neighbor who was so friendly with Edwards that he had a key to her house and liked to slip over in the afternoon for a cocktail. Some people thought there was more to the relationship between Holloway and Dorothy Edwards than just being good neighbors. It was Holloway who had led police to her body and who had given them an elaborate tour of the death scene. A decade later, when a lawyer named Diana Holt read Holloway s testimony, she was dumbfounded. Eventually Holt came to believe that Holloway might have killed Edwards in a fit of jealousy; he knew that she was planning to remarry and a lovers quarrel ensued, with fatal results. Since all parties to the encounter are now dead, her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The movie s title was taken from her first hit song she wrote and recorded. Elliott s life from the very start was surrounded in music. In the beginning of the film she is shown at the age of two, giggling and happily performing songs she had made up to entertain her family during a long car ride. As both her parents were musically inclined, it is no wonder she possessed such a natural talent and love for music. Throughout the film, Elliott is portrayed as having two entirely different personas. An extrovert in public and a introvert in private, she at one point refers to herself as... In one scene, after an exceptionally magnificent performance with her blues rock band, joyful emotions run high. On stage, Elliott leads her audience to believe that her lyrics in her famous song Stronger, God I just want to be set free, from this black dog that chains me are an uplifting expression of resilience after courageously finding her own way after divorce. In fact, many fans repeatedly shower her with compliments of how much this song reflects their own struggles. Suddenly, the film cuts from bright lights and stardom to a dark and lonely room, thick with desolation. In those moments of solitude, it is clear that she wrote these words not about her resilience, but instead encompassing her own lifelong struggle with depression. President Obama s Semblance Of Education Reform Essay Adversaries in the Race to the Top While many supported President Obama s semblance of education reform in Race to the Top, various factions were vehemently against RTT and its implementation. Republicans primarily stand against federal involvement in state and local schools. The party opposed RTT advanced Common Core State Standards, which promote a one size fits all approach to education(Spring, 2015, 63). Along with political factions, those majorly impacted by RTT objected to its premise. The main teachers unions in the U.S., the National Education Associationas well as the American Federation of Teachers, highlighted several points of disagreement in RTT which would lead to challenges in implementation. At the time, the NEA said it cannot support RTT s endorsement of using test scores for evaluating teachers, increasing the number of charter schools, and bolstering what the union calls fast track alternative routes to teacher licensure (Sawchuk 2009). Additionally, the AFT expressed concerns about RTT and how much the program helps students, whether it is fair to teachers, whether it is transparent to the public, and whether it requires shared responsibility (Weingarten 2009). Along with teachers unions, members of academia spearheaded critiques of RTT. Joe Onosko s eight point manifesto adequately details the concerns of educators at the time of implementation. Accordingly, Kant s aim is to rescue metaphysics from an endless war by embarking a turning point in metaphysics as Nicolaus Copernicus did in cosmology. He brought a solution to the problem of the explaining movements of the planets by rejecting the assumption that the Earth was motionless and he suggested that motions of the planets are the result of the observer. • 49. Litigation vs. ADR Litigation v. ADR There are many legal systems and measures that are available to people when they run into problems. These alternatives generally accelerate the resolution of disputes without the need for initiating or continuing the formal and costly process of litigation. These alternatives are generally referred to as that of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) (Sherman, 2012). Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) comprises the resolution of a matter by a method other than traditional litigation. There are three main kinds of ADR: negotiation, mediation and arbitration. ADR is often preferred over traditional litigation because it involves a less formal atmosphere than the court room and is less expensive and time consuming than litigation. Furthermore, matters can be resolved in private and kept confidential, and the parties can frequently select the decision maker, who will often have commercial or industrial experience. ADR also helps to reduce the caseloads for courts that are way overcrowded (Alternative Dispute Resolution, 2011). The popularity of ADR has grown steadily over the years with almost 90% of all cases resolved through some form of ADR before trial. Typically, advantages of ADR over trial include such things as: less formal and therefore less intimidating, quicker resolution, less expensive, heard by an arbitrator or mediator, at the end, an opinion is delivered and after binding ADR, the opinion can usually be filed with a court and turned into ... I believe the book does a good job with tying in different connections and references with food and with Will Allen since he has grown up around food ever since he was little. When the book states The fate of a seed can be predicted by the health of the soil where it takes the rootI believe that Will Allen is referring and connecting it back to himself. I believe he relates this to himself because a plant s roots are surrounded by soil and Will Allen has planted his roots around farming and food. A plant needs soil to survive and Will Allen needed farming to survive. His whole life and job has revolved around planting. A plant lives off of what it knows and its surroundings and Will Allen did the same. His parents planted the seed to get the initial start in farming so he picks up where they left off. Even though he was not into farming when he was younger he learned to grow and find a passion for farming as he grew older because it has always been around him. No matter where he went he held onto farming because that is all he knew. I believe this connection between Will Allen and the quote about the plant enhances and helps tell the story of how Will Allen got involved in farming. The connection The Good Food Revolution tries to also make is between ecology and human development. Ecology is about dealing with relations of organisms to one another ...
