Advanced Technology In Corrections
The use of advanced technology in corrections is inevitable. With continued overcrowding, reduction
in budgets for manpower and new facilities, and push to keep the worst locked up and less violent
offenders back out on the street, technology will play a bigger role. Aside from the advantages and
disadvantages presented in the text by Siegel and Bartollas (2011), there are other concerns that may
arise which could have an impact on case law and law enforcement across the country.
Once technology is used by the government to monitor people s movements and locations (insert
Orwellian theories), questions of Civil Rights/Civil Liberties violations, or potential for violation will
arise, as alluded to in the text. For example, the unanimous

INTRODUCTION The Canterbury region is the second largest dairy producer in the country
(Statistics New Zealand, n.d.). Over the period of 2007 to 2012, the region has seen an increase of
60,000 hectares of irrigated farm land (Hills, 2013) due to the conversion of beef, sheep and crop
farms to water intensive dairy farming. There has also been an increase of 58% in the number of dairy
farms and a 31% increase in the average herd size of dairy farms (Burns, 2013). For maximum
production, sufficient irrigation is required for dairy farms (Food and Agriculture Organization of the
United Nations, 2000). Therefore dairying requires at least ten times more water than other farming
practices (Ward McKague, 2007). Over the summer months of December, January and February, this
irrigation increase would represent a decrease in the amount of stressed vegetation in the study area.
The study area is a 30km2 section of the Canterbury Plains, situated between the Waimakariri and
Rakaia Rivers (Figure 2), to the west of Christchurch City. It falls within Path 74, Row 90 of Landsat s
reference system. The area encompasses a variety of land use

The Primary Care Clinic

HSA 300 Health Services Organization Management
Professor Janet Kaplan
The Primary Care Clinic
Many important factors go into play when running a healthcare organization. I plan to discuss some of
the key components that have influenced the development of this health care facility. The clinic
mission statement will be stated and addressed to clear up any confusion. I plan to identify the three
performance measures I would use to measure the clinic s effectiveness and provide the rationale for
each performance measure. I will also explain ways in which I will approach the decisions on
expansions. I will also describe the role the primary clinic has played in the healthcare systems in our

(2010). This information is obtained through financial reports, complaint records, and ongoing client
surveys. The second performance measure I would use would be responsive communication. This
measures satisfaction surveys retention, absenteeism, and vacancy measures. These measures will let
us know what is going within the organization. Some examples are percent of loyal associates, percent
of RN positions are vacant, and tenure of associates. The concept of this is associate satisfaction,
retention, and complaints. In order to provide excellent care, we will need to know what the staff is
feeling. Happy employees mean better performance which equals better patient care. For the third
measure, I would focus on corporate design. Corporate design measures market share, efficacy of care,
per capita cost of care, improvements unmet or delayed and variation in internal performance. The
concept behind this measure is to find the extent of service, uniformity of performance, and
competitor relations. Surveys are a big part of obtaining all this information and provide a great deal
of knowledge on how well this organization is performing.
The Decisions Regarding Annual Plan Approval and Clinic Expansion Business plans are models of a
specific strategy or function that guides

Osteoporosis Is The Most Common Chronic
Osteoporosis is translated from the Greek and literally means porous bone .It is the most common
chronic, metabolic bone disease in the U.S.A, resulting in osteopenia and fractures in spine , hip and
wrist. In addition osteoporosis is progressive, and the skeletal fragility often leads to disabling
fractures (hip fractures) and even death. Primary osteoporosis is a result of aging, whereas secondary
osteoporosis occurs at any age, is a consequence to certain medication as well as diseases.
Throughout life the skeletal system is constantly changing. Bone modeling, formation and growth of
bones, occurs from birth to early adulthood resulting in increase in skeletal mass and changes in
skeletal form. Naturally the peak bone mass is achieved in the third decade of life, meaning the bones
are at their strongest state in human development. Bone remodeling, a response to micro trauma and
stress on the bone, is a dynamic process that also occurs through life. Bone is composed of collagen
type 1, a protein, minerals such as calcium and phosphate and bone forming cells (osteoblasts and
osteocytes) as wells as bone resorbing cells known as osteoclasts. Calcium is a main contributor of
bone strength. In fact 99% of calcium is stored in bones and teeth with one percent remaining in the
blood. The process of bone remodeling is activated by stressors such as weight bearing and is
necessary to maintain bone mass in an adult. It s a dynamic process in which bone resorption is always

The hand is usually injured by sprains or fractures. If your hand is injured you will notice swelling,
pain, and stiffness all of which may limit the ways that you can use your hands. Some activities that
could injure your hands are basketball, football or baseball so any sports that involves ball handling or
any physical sport like rugby.
The extensor tendons are muscles that allow your fingers and thumbs to extend. The location of this

Karl Marx And Adam Smith Essay
Presence of the Theories of Karl Marx Adam Smith Within the Canadian Economy

Canada s economy is one that exhibits a multitude of characteristics that adhere to the capitalist and
socialist constructs of a mixed system. In order to clearly define and analyze the current economic
system of the country, one would have to establish a relationship between its economy as well as the
ideas, theories, and models of prominent economists from the past. Both Adam Smith and Karl Marx
conceptualized contrasting schools of thought regarding the methods in which an economy should be
run Smith emphasized the independence of businesses whereas Marx strived to eliminate class
conflict. However, the principles of Marxism certainly satisfy the criteria of Canada s economy
through its regulations, public sector, and market intervention. This widespread manifestation of
Marxism within the Canadian economy accurately represents the country s economic position.
Market regulation is a microcosm of normative economics, both in value and judgement. The primary
purpose in a regulated market is ensuring fair services to customers and labourers. This lays parallel to
Marx s criticism of capitalist businessmen and their lack of enforcement, which starkly contrasts

Hurricane Sandy Has Affected My Life
In late October of 2012 Hurricane Sandy hit many New York City boroughs and several parts of New
Jersey. My community and many others were greatly affected. Homes around me were destroyed,
people in my community were killed, and some families lost everything. My high school was a shelter
for those who were severely affected from October 23rd my high school were asking for volunteers
and my older brother and I were there amongst hundreds giving out food collecting clothing articles,
blankets, toys, anything to help others. The hardest part was seeing my high school teachers crying

but nothing can or will ever come out. Your sleeping is even affected when you cannot even lie down
but have to prop yourself up on pillows. You then have to watch out for the different airborne diseases
that can work their way into their body and can potentially be fatal. All those simple diseases such as

Tracheobronchomalacia. Tracheobronchomalacia is the collapse of the trachea and one or both of the
bronchi. This occurs do to the softening of the cartilaginous rings. The collapse can be classified in
many ways but the shape of the airway after they are affected can be classified as crescent, which is
when one side of the bronchial tube is caved in which causes it to have a crescent shape, or concentric
which is when all sides of the tubes collapse and it creates a circular hole in the middle in which air
can pass through. When we are born, the cartilaginous rings that support our trachea and bronchial
tubes are made up of hyaline cartilage. Over time these rings are supposed to go through the process
of ossification and harden. When the cartilage does not harden and there is something that causes the
rings to collapse onto the airway, it is classified as congenital or primary

Life Of The Chosen Analysis
The Life of the Chosen
Our story begins in the late Medieval era, the 16th century. Right after the death of Al Andalus, the
arabic prince of Denmark. The country of Denmark was in a political turmoil to defend their
reputations as one of the strongest, superpower nation of the world. But after their great warrior king s
death, the other allied and opposing countries were beginning to undermine the status of modern day
Denmark. Whilst all this is happening, the nation itself was beginning to change in the direction of the
ideology of Europe, one of these new values was Chivalry. The solution devised by the new
administration was to follow the European revolution and create an army similar to that of Britain,

That morning, I woke up early and got ready. Right around 20 minutes later, heard the crackles of a

reached there, an old man with a brown tanned hat became to speak in the heaviest metallic voice, So

Similarities Between Communism And Fascism
The Goal of the Leader
Communism, Fascism, and religion were the prominent political ideologies of the twentieth century.
Each political ideology had different views on how to deal with the modern world. Communism and
Fascism were created in a time when the nations state was the most important thing for citizens.
Communist leaders rejected the idea of the state, while fascism embraced it. Iranian leaders were
primarily focused with Shi a, a sect of Islam, which was unique compared to the outside world. In
dealing with the modern views of the time the political leaders based their movements on people or a
concept, while causing a common enemy. Due to the time periods and the location in which the
political ideologies occurred the leaders of the movements had different enemies, but the bases of
communism, fascism, and Iranian Shi as is similar. Communism started in Russia, 1912 but did not

One of the key enemies against communism in Russia was capitalism. Capitalist were used
synonymously to name the group of people who were to blame for the peasants being poor and not
having land, labor, and peace . Capitalism is primarily concerned about private ownership, and trade,
which is against communist ideology. The primary message of communism is that there is no private
ownership because everyone works together, not for himself or herself. The other primary enemy
against communism occurring in Russia was the old regime, which was Czarist Russia. Communist
leaders believed the old regime followed the footsteps of capitalism, which is keeping the poor, poor
and solely benefiting the rich. In having modern concepts be deemed the enemy, Communist leaders
of Russia were able to persuade the people of their state to follow their movement to the fullest
potential or they would be deemed helping the

B2b Exchanges And Business Activity Perspective
Business to business (B2B) exchanges or marketplaces provide dramatic opportunities to automate
collaborative business processes with customers and suppliers, generate internal efficiencies, and
reach new markets at minimal cost. (Kenjale Phatak, 2002)
The epigraph quote from a 2002 article in the CRM magazine provides the commonly used and
accepted definition of Business to Business (B2B) exchanges. The key differentiating attributes of the
B2B Exchanges from the Business to Consumer (B2C) exchanges are: the target customers (Business
customers such as Resellers, Industrial market, etc.); the nature of demand which is derived based on
consumer demand; and the exchange process which are more formal in nature (more purchase ...

366). The Vertical market is based on specific industry sectors, such as the computer manufacturer
Dell s inclusion of chip maker Intel and AMD into its exchange. The Horizontal market is a wider
supply market that cuts across several industries, such as FedEx and UPS providing transportation and
logistical exchanges for a wide variety of businesses. The Internet provides an immense resource
value to both markets. In the vertical market, the dominant resource benefit is derived from the lower
costs of buyers operations, lower inventory requirements as well as the removal of distribution
channel blockages such as agents and brokers where a Just in time (JIT) manufacturing is
complemented. In the Horizontal market, the Internet provides: expanded market reach, increase
liquidity in the market, reduction of geographical and logistical barriers and more.
The second perspective considering the Procurement stages is also noted in the book Digital Business
Concepts and Strategy as, Three types of B2B exchanges often illustrate the history of the relationship
between a seller and a buyer: new buy, modified rebut, and straight rebuy (Coupey, 2005, p. 367)
which takes the vantage point of procurement activities. In a new buy procurement situation is
encountered by building new exchange relationships where the burden of all the procurement process

The Sugar Industry In India
Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION:
India has been known as the original home of sugarcane and sugar. Indians knew the art of making
sugar since the fourth century. However the advent of modern sugar industry in India dates back to
mid 1930 s when a few vacuum pan units were established in the sub tropical belts of Uttar Pradesh
and Bihar.
Until the mid 50s, the sugar industry was almost wholly confined to the states of Uttar Pradesh and
Bihar. After late fifties or early sixties the industry dispersed into Southern India, Western India and
other parts of Northern India.
India is the largest consumer and second largest producer of sugar in the world. The sufficient and
well distributed monsoon rains, rapid population growth and substantial increases in sugar production
capacity have combined to make India the largest consumer and second largest producer of sugar in
the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With over 450 sugar factories located throughout the country, the sugar industry is amongst the largest
agro processing industries, with an annual turnover of Rs150bn. It plays a major role in rural
development and its importance for India stretches far beyond the role of a sweetener supplier.
The sugar factories located in various parts of the country work as nuclei for development of rural
areas by mobilizing rural resources and generating employment, transport and communication
facilities. Over 45mn farmers, their dependants and a large mass of agricultural labor are involved in
sugarcane cultivation, harvesting and ancillary activities constituting 7.5% of the rural population. The

Dropout Age Should Be Abolished Essay
Many states throughout the country are raising the required dropout age of high school students to 18.
Elevating the mandatory age of pre graduates to 18 has been proven to encourage kids to stay in
school and lead to an auspicious future.
To lead off, students should be required to stay in school until they are 18 to set a moral imperative ,
as New Hampshire Deputy Commissioner of Education, Paul Leather states. The standard will create a
moral obligation that will boost the chance of many kids sticking through high school to go on to earn
their diploma. Some people claim that raising the minimum age is not a solution, but according to an
article in National Education Weekly, by Mia Lewis, Raising the age for exiting pre graduation may
not stop all dropouts, but it has a positive effect. The requirement will often significantly lower
dropout rates. If this were paired with relevant schooling, as Kentucky uses, it could be even more

The decision to give up on earning a high school diploma will often have a severe impact on a student
s future. Educational advocate Missy Remiss states, Those without a highschool diploma are likely to
have lower earnings, higher unemployment, lower job satisfaction they even have a higher likelihood
of ending up in jail or on public assistance. The effects of this decision will often cause problems for
the rest of the students lives. States need to do all they can to prevent this from occurring. Raising the
dropout age of students would prevent more people from living below the poverty line and cost less
for states with fewer people on public assistance. According to a data analysis from 2009 by the U.S
Department of Education, a high school dropout earns about $7,840 less than they would with a
diploma. Staying in school for just a little longer could majorly diminish this

Female Infanticide Should Not Be Legal
Female infanticide is the killing of a female baby out of the womb. In the past they would strangle the
infant girls after birth. It is not justifiable for mothers to have to make the decision to kill their kid.
Female Infanticide should not be legal due to the fact that innocent children lose their lives, the family
loses their child, the ratio of girls to boys is unequal ethically it is not right!
A person is a living entity with the inherent, internal capacity to develop reason and choice.
Biologically, there is only one generic class of human beings: everyone from conception until death. If
human beings are persons then, prima facie, all human beings, born and preborn are persons too. If the
purely biological fact of birth is what transforms non persons into person, then what about nonhuman
mammals? No one pretends that their mere birth transforms them into persons. Being human is what
makes you a person (McElroy page 1).
Female infanticide is not easily talked about. Female infanticide and sex selective abortion in India
have been the subject of much attention in recent years. Many people believe that in ancient Indian
traditions, female infanticide is to

Effects Of Morality And Morality
Memory Effects on Ethics and Morality
Introduction
Memory is one of the essential components of a human being. It affects almost all the aspects human
behavior. Ethics and morality are part of two contemporary factors that affect the human memory and
the subsequent actions in the social domain. It seems that people have lowered morals in the phase of
everyday challenges such that ethical dealings are viewed as a typical mountain in most situations. In
most sectors of the public operation, you find that most of the problems that are presented there or are
linked to lack proper ethics and morality. Well as the action of the population says that morality is
relative and not absolute, I always believe that that there should be a bar of reference. Additionally, the
reason why I considered the topic is due to the divergent discussion that comes with it in any given
forum of discussion. The most critical epithet in the topic is its need of reinforcement into the society.
Talking about this topic will open avenues for more vibrant and genuine views on the topic. For this
paper, I will analyze two articles on morality and ethics from the psychology today website.

with the politics sources. It causes for their campaign to be a part of what they believe not what they

Movie, Rear Window, By Alfred Hitchcock
For every action a person takes, there is usually a purpose behind it. The riskier and more dangerous
an action, the more motive that individual must have to continue. Alfred Hitchcock s 1954 film, Rear
Window, is a riveting thriller that is based on Cornell Woolrich s short story It Had to be Murder . This
film tells a narrative about an adventurous photographer, Jeffries played by James Stewart, who after
breaking his leg is forced to remain shackled to a wheelchair within his home. To cope with boredom,
he takes the liberty of observing his neighbors through one of his windows. It is through this pastime
that he comes to believe that one of his neighbor might be guilty of murdering his wife. Throughout
the rest of the film Jeffries decides to investigate his neighbor, in an attempt to bring him to justice.
Jeffries is however met with skepticism and obstacles. While any other individual might have
succumbed to the skepticism, Jeffries does not. Throughout the film we come know his character
more, and we can analyze what part of his personality started the whole ordeal and which traits drives

individual who likes adventure. We quickly learn this key information in the opening scenes of the

Negative Effects Of Oil Drills
Being the second largest producer of oil in Canada, oil is big business in Saskatchewan. Oil mining
brings in hundreds of millions of dollars for the Saskatchewan government every year, but is the
money really worth it for the amount of damage it causes to the earth? Since 1990, there have been 18
893 incidents of oil being leaked in Saskatchewan. In these incidents, about 31.7 billion liters of oil
has been leaked, but only 287 million liters of that oil has been recovered. Extruding oil can release
many harmful substances into the air that we breathe, the water that we drink, and onto the land that
we live on. Although oil generates a large amount of revenue for the government of Saskatchewan, its
negative effects on the environment can not be overlooked.
The first aspect of the earth that oil extraction affects is the air. H2S is a poisonous gas that is released
during the mining of oil that can kill humans and animals. While not lethal in very low concentrations,
anything more than 1000 parts per million can be deadly to humans. In an audit in late 2012, it was
discovered that out of eleven random oil drilling sites, every single site had levels of H2S over the
lethal limit of 1000 ppm. This clearly poses a significant health risk to anyone working on, or living
near, these oil rigs. About half a year later in March 2013, the Minister of Energy and Resources sent a
letter to Saskatchewan oil and gas companies, telling them to better monitor and reduce H2S
emissions.

Anse And Tyrone s Phenomenon
Anse and Tyrone are weak fathers whose ignorance and arrogance ultimately tears the family apart.
Both fathers are very frugal, and their frugality sickens the family. Tyrone was born in Ireland and
then moved to the United States at a young age. His father left his family once they moved to the U.S.
to go back to Ireland. Because of his background, Tyrone has always had to save money and make the
most of what he has since he lived in poverty. Those instincts stook with him his entire life. His
cheapness is the reason why his wife is a morphine addict and his family is well aware of that. Mary
has even called him out on it, And yet it was exactly the same type of cheap quack who first gave you
the medicine and you never knew until it was too late! (O neill 76). His wife is even blaming him for

If you d spent money for a decent doctor when she was so sick after I was born, she d never have

because his fee was cheap! Another one of your bargains! (O neill 142).
Tyrone would rather spend his money on land, rather than a good doctor for his wife. He spends most
of his money on land, and Edmund even dragged it out of him, It s a lie! All I told them was I couldn t
afford any millionaire s sanatorium because I was land poor. That s the truth! (O neill 147). Tyrone s
stinginess hurts the family physically and emotionally. When Edmund realizes how cheap his father is,
he told him that he hated him. Edmund bursted in rage and is destroyed when he finds out that his

REFRACTING CHIMAMANDA NGOZI ADICHIE S AMERICANAH THROUGH A POST
COLONIAL PRISM
1. Introduction
Respected Marxist critic Frederic Jameson once described every instance of third world literature as
necessarily nationally allegorical (69), an assertion spectacularly assailed by Aijaz Ahmad (77 82).
But it is possible to close our eyes to Ahmad s very valid misgivings and take a bird s eye view of
Jameson s assertion: read in reaction to the phenomenon of imperialism, perhaps the literature of
dominated peoples is the literature of self assertion, however blind to Jameson s national allegorical
(or anticolonial) imperative, and however hybrid . That last expression might as ... Show more content

But first, I must situate Americanah in its post colonial moment.
2. Situating Americanah in the Post Colonial Moment
Since it is published in 2013, the material reality of Americanah is conditioned, however distantly it
seems now, by the phenomenon of colonialism it is written in English, for instance. Although
published in 2013, the temporality and spatiality of Americanah s narrative extends backwards to the
late 70s when its major protagonist, Ifemelu, was born. As a child, she witnesses the death by firing
squad of that famous robbery kingpin, Lawrence Anini (148), and lives through coups, coups attempts,
strikes and the usual brand of public dysfunction that still haunts Nigeria, therefore linking its post
coloniality with that decidedly African brand of introverted, introspective post independence post
coloniality of disillusionment exemplified by novels such as Ayi Kwei Armah s The Beautyful Ones
Are Not Yet Born, Chinua Achebe s No Longer at Ease and Anthills of the Savannah, and soon enough
with the post coloniality of globalization (and the neoliberal ideology that has hijacked it). As we see
in the novel, this disillusionment is the animus of her exile. Ifemelu arrives America in 1997, the year
in which Kudirat Abiola, activist wife of M.K.O Abiola, was killed (116). Here, Americanah s post
coloniality takes a new turn. This new turn, inaugurated by Ifemelu s (voluntary

ABSTRACT
Edith Wharton was a Pulitzer Prize winning female author whose writing style was mainly affected by
her aristocratic upbringing. Growing up Edith Wharton was friends with former President Theodore
Roosevelt. The two were often compared and both were said to have been self made men . Edith
Wharton s novels were often critically acclaimed until Ethan Frome was published. The novel was
said to be cruel and violent by critics and casual readers. In my opinion, Edith Wharton s Ethan Frome
is a great book that reveals the harsh realities of failed relationships hanging on by a thread combined
with the struggle of being poverty stricken. For my original piece, I will write a poem about Edith
Wharton s failed marriage that lasted 28 years, as if I were Edith Wharton after her divorce from
Edward Wharton. I chose to do a report on Edith Wharton because she was a female writer that
believed women were just as capable as men during a time when men were seen as superior in every
aspect to women, and also because she achieved much more than most male writers of her time. I
believe Edith Wharton s aristocratic upbringing had the main effect on her writing style.

Plot Summary Of The Story The Locket
The story of The locket is set during the civil war which was fought between the slave states of the
south and the free states of the north. The war lasted from 1841 to 1865, it was a time of great
bloodshed and losses, separation was one of the greatest causes of the war and one of the major
themes of the story, Edmond, the main character and his wife Octavie love each other dearly and don t
want to be apart from each other, but Edmond is called away to serve in the civil war, before he goes
Octavie gives him a locket for him to take with him when he goes, it will help Edmond always
remember that he has something to live for, someone to go back, separation is hard, but the the only
cure is time. The setting at the beginning of the story is at a slope of a hill during the civil war, the
setting later switches to central Louisiana. The Locket is a story that creates moments of sadness and
despair but ends with a surprising ending. Miracles can happen when you least expect them. ... Show

Suspense was created when the men were called to battle, in war you never know if you will come
back alive or wont come back at all, we didn t know if Edmond was going to live through this war or
not until the dead soldier wearing the locket was found, that s when a someone reading the story
would presume the main character has been killed and you don t what the climax of the story is. The
theme of lost and suffering is shown greatly toward the end of the story. Octavie, Edmond s wife takes
the news of his death very seriously, she is greatly affected by the loss of her love, and doesn t
understand why the world continues to go around her, unaffected by her sadness. The suspense created
by Edmond s supposed death, and Octavie s grief resulted in me being pretty surprised when Edmond
was alive at the end of the

Obama Ethos Pathos Logos
When certain people make speeches, don t you just feel inspired by their words? For these certain
people, they all put it into the delivery of their speeches to be as influential as possible. They use many
forms of rhetoric to achieve their goals and gain support. This is the case for Obama s Speech on the
death of Osama Bin Laden. The goal of Obama s speech is to unite the American people and support
the war on terrorism. Obama s creative choice of words are used as tools to persuade people. The first
thing Obama does in his speech is mention the events of 9/11. He recalls it as a the worst attack on the
American people in our history. He continues giving his audience a idea of a horrible event full of
death. He is using a form of rhetoric known as pathos. He does this to pull on people s emotions
getting their attention and reminding them of the past. By doing this Obama unites peoples thoughts
making them think the same thing and re ignite the American people s urge for revenge on Al Qaeda.
After gathering the American people s attention, Obama states the heroic work of our military and our
counterterrorism professionals. Generally he tells the American people that they made lots of progress
on the war on terrorism. He says our because it tells the American people their efforts weren t futile.
He also uses this term to show the American people are part of the war on terrorism. Constantly using
words of unity, Obama uses a mixture of ethos and pathos. He makes

Question Two. Management is the process of managing the organizational resources: financial
resources, information resources, physical resources, and human resources. It is important to mention
that the proper usage of other resources depends on the human resources. The success or failure of the
company depends mostly on the capability of its people. The main responsibility of the human
resources professionals is to control the human resources in an effective way but controlling the
human resources during organizational change is very difficult and complex. Human resources
professionals are supposed to act an active role in managing change in the company. The roles of

  • 2. Advanced Technology In Corrections The use of advanced technology in corrections is inevitable. With continued overcrowding, reduction in budgets for manpower and new facilities, and push to keep the worst locked up and less violent offenders back out on the street, technology will play a bigger role. Aside from the advantages and disadvantages presented in the text by Siegel and Bartollas (2011), there are other concerns that may arise which could have an impact on case law and law enforcement across the country. Once technology is used by the government to monitor people s movements and locations (insert Orwellian theories), questions of Civil Rights/Civil Liberties violations, or potential for violation will arise, as alluded to in the text. For example, the unanimous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Change Of Vegetation Stress On The Canterbury Plains CHANGE OF VEGETATION STRESS ON THE CANTERBURY PLAINS DUE TO CHANGES IN FARMING PRACTICES Hamish Kingsbury, GEOG313, University of Canterbury CONTENTS 1 Introduction 2 2 Methods 3 2.1 Data 3 2.2 Processing 4 2.3 Analysis 4 2.4 Validating 5 3 Results 6 4 Conclusion 8 4.1 Limitations 8 Appendix A 10 Appendix B 11 Appendix B Cont. 12 Appendix C 13 1 INTRODUCTION The Canterbury region is the second largest dairy producer in the country (Statistics New Zealand, n.d.). Over the period of 2007 to 2012, the region has seen an increase of 60,000 hectares of irrigated farm land (Hills, 2013) due to the conversion of beef, sheep and crop farms to water intensive dairy farming. There has also been an increase of 58% in the number of dairy farms and a 31% increase in the average herd size of dairy farms (Burns, 2013). For maximum production, sufficient irrigation is required for dairy farms (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 2000). Therefore dairying requires at least ten times more water than other farming practices (Ward McKague, 2007). Over the summer months of December, January and February, this irrigation increase would represent a decrease in the amount of stressed vegetation in the study area. The study area is a 30km2 section of the Canterbury Plains, situated between the Waimakariri and Rakaia Rivers (Figure 2), to the west of Christchurch City. It falls within Path 74, Row 90 of Landsat s reference system. The area encompasses a variety of land use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I plan to discuss some of the key components that have influenced the development of this health care facility. The clinic mission statement will be stated and addressed to clear up any confusion. I plan to identify the three performance measures I would use to measure the clinic s effectiveness and provide the rationale for each performance measure. I will also explain ways in which I will approach the decisions on expansions. I will also describe the role the primary clinic has played in the healthcare systems in our ... The second performance measure I would use would be responsive communication. This measures satisfaction surveys retention, absenteeism, and vacancy measures. These measures will let us know what is going within the organization. Some examples are percent of loyal associates, percent of RN positions are vacant, and tenure of associates. The concept of this is associate satisfaction, retention, and complaints. In order to provide excellent care, we will need to know what the staff is feeling. Happy employees mean better performance which equals better patient care. For the third measure, I would focus on corporate design. Corporate design measures market share, efficacy of care, per capita cost of care, improvements unmet or delayed and variation in internal performance. The concept behind this measure is to find the extent of service, uniformity of performance, and competitor relations. Surveys are a big part of obtaining all this information and provide a great deal of knowledge on how well this organization is performing. • 5. Osteoporosis Is The Most Common Chronic Osteoporosis is translated from the Greek and literally means porous bone .It is the most common chronic, metabolic bone disease in the U.S.A, resulting in osteopenia and fractures in spine , hip and wrist. In addition osteoporosis is progressive, and the skeletal fragility often leads to disabling fractures (hip fractures) and even death. Primary osteoporosis is a result of aging, whereas secondary osteoporosis occurs at any age, is a consequence to certain medication as well as diseases. Throughout life the skeletal system is constantly changing. Bone modeling, formation and growth of bones, occurs from birth to early adulthood resulting in increase in skeletal mass and changes in skeletal form. Naturally the peak bone mass is achieved in the third decade of life, meaning the bones are at their strongest state in human development. Bone remodeling, a response to micro trauma and stress on the bone, is a dynamic process that also occurs through life. Bone is composed of collagen type 1, a protein, minerals such as calcium and phosphate and bone forming cells (osteoblasts and osteocytes) as wells as bone resorbing cells known as osteoclasts. Calcium is a main contributor of bone strength. In fact 99% of calcium is stored in bones and teeth with one percent remaining in the blood. The process of bone remodeling is activated by stressors such as weight bearing and is necessary to maintain bone mass in an adult. It s a dynamic process in which bone resorption is always ... • 7. Karl Marx And Adam Smith Essay Presence of the Theories of Karl Marx Adam Smith Within the Canadian Economy Written by: Jason Kothary, Zach Shafi, Sam Girma Kevin Sallaku Research: Ryan Salehi, Zack Izzeddin, David Moffett, Cameron Bernardo, Harrison Toms, Taha Mahmood, Anthony Alexiou, Jason Kothary, Zach Shafi, Sam Girma Kevin Sallaku Canada s economy is one that exhibits a multitude of characteristics that adhere to the capitalist and socialist constructs of a mixed system. In order to clearly define and analyze the current economic system of the country, one would have to establish a relationship between its economy as well as the ideas, theories, and models of prominent economists from the past. Both Adam Smith and Karl Marx conceptualized contrasting schools of thought regarding the methods in which an economy should be run Smith emphasized the independence of businesses whereas Marx strived to eliminate class conflict. However, the principles of Marxism certainly satisfy the criteria of Canada s economy through its regulations, public sector, and market intervention. This widespread manifestation of Marxism within the Canadian economy accurately represents the country s economic position. Market regulation is a microcosm of normative economics, both in value and judgement. The primary purpose in a regulated market is ensuring fair services to customers and labourers. This lays parallel to Marx s criticism of capitalist businessmen and their lack of enforcement, which starkly contrasts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When we are born, the cartilaginous rings that support our trachea and bronchial tubes are made up of hyaline cartilage. • 12. Similarities Between Communism And Fascism The Goal of the Leader Communism, Fascism, and religion were the prominent political ideologies of the twentieth century. Each political ideology had different views on how to deal with the modern world. Communism and Fascism were created in a time when the nations state was the most important thing for citizens. Communist leaders rejected the idea of the state, while fascism embraced it. Iranian leaders were primarily focused with Shi a, a sect of Islam, which was unique compared to the outside world. B2b Exchanges And Business Activity Perspective Business to business (B2B) exchanges or marketplaces provide dramatic opportunities to automate collaborative business processes with customers and suppliers, generate internal efficiencies, and reach new markets at minimal cost. (Kenjale Phatak, 2002) The epigraph quote from a 2002 article in the CRM magazine provides the commonly used and accepted definition of Business to Business (B2B) exchanges. The key differentiating attributes of the B2B Exchanges from the Business to Consumer (B2C) exchanges are: the target customers (Business customers such as Resellers, Industrial market, etc.); the nature of demand which is derived based on consumer demand; and the exchange process which are more formal in nature (more purchase ... Indians knew the art of making sugar since the fourth century. However the advent of modern sugar industry in India dates back to mid 1930 s when a few vacuum pan units were established in the sub tropical belts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Until the mid 50s, the sugar industry was almost wholly confined to the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. After late fifties or early sixties the industry dispersed into Southern India, Western India and other parts of Northern India. To lead off, students should be required to stay in school until they are 18 to set a moral imperative , as New Hampshire Deputy Commissioner of Education, Paul Leather states. The standard will create a moral obligation that will boost the chance of many kids sticking through high school to go on to earn their diploma. Some people claim that raising the minimum age is not a solution, but according to an article in National Education Weekly, by Mia Lewis, Raising the age for exiting pre graduation may not stop all dropouts, but it has a positive effect. The effects of this decision will often cause problems for the rest of the students lives. States need to do all they can to prevent this from occurring. It is not justifiable for mothers to have to make the decision to kill their kid. Female Infanticide should not be legal due to the fact that innocent children lose their lives, the family loses their child, the ratio of girls to boys is unequal ethically it is not right! A person is a living entity with the inherent, internal capacity to develop reason and choice. Biologically, there is only one generic class of human beings: everyone from conception until death. If human beings are persons then, prima facie, all human beings, born and preborn are persons too. If the purely biological fact of birth is what transforms non persons into person, then what about nonhuman mammals? No one pretends that their mere birth transforms them into persons. Being human is what makes you a person (McElroy page 1). Female infanticide is not easily talked about. It seems that people have lowered morals in the phase of everyday challenges such that ethical dealings are viewed as a typical mountain in most situations. In most sectors of the public operation, you find that most of the problems that are presented there or are linked to lack proper ethics and morality. Well as the action of the population says that morality is relative and not absolute, I always believe that that there should be a bar of reference. Additionally, the reason why I considered the topic is due to the divergent discussion that comes with it in any given forum of discussion. The most critical epithet in the topic is its need of reinforcement into the society. Talking about this topic will open avenues for more vibrant and genuine views on the topic. • 25. Negative Effects Of Oil Drills Being the second largest producer of oil in Canada, oil is big business in Saskatchewan. Oil mining brings in hundreds of millions of dollars for the Saskatchewan government every year, but is the money really worth it for the amount of damage it causes to the earth? Since 1990, there have been 18 893 incidents of oil being leaked in Saskatchewan. In these incidents, about 31.7 billion liters of oil has been leaked, but only 287 million liters of that oil has been recovered. Extruding oil can release many harmful substances into the air that we breathe, the water that we drink, and onto the land that we live on. Although oil generates a large amount of revenue for the government of Saskatchewan, its negative effects on the environment can not be overlooked. The first aspect of the earth that oil extraction affects is the air. H2S is a poisonous gas that is released during the mining of oil that can kill humans and animals. While not lethal in very low concentrations, anything more than 1000 parts per million can be deadly to humans. In an audit in late 2012, it was discovered that out of eleven random oil drilling sites, every single site had levels of H2S over the lethal limit of 1000 ppm. This clearly poses a significant health risk to anyone working on, or living near, these oil rigs. About half a year later in March 2013, the Minister of Energy and Resources sent a letter to Saskatchewan oil and gas companies, telling them to better monitor and reduce H2S emissions. ... Both fathers are very frugal, and their frugality sickens the family. Tyrone was born in Ireland and then moved to the United States at a young age. His father left his family once they moved to the U.S. to go back to Ireland. Because of his background, Tyrone has always had to save money and make the most of what he has since he lived in poverty. Those instincts stook with him his entire life. His cheapness is the reason why his wife is a morphine addict and his family is well aware of that. Introduction Respected Marxist critic Frederic Jameson once described every instance of third world literature as necessarily nationally allegorical (69), an assertion spectacularly assailed by Aijaz Ahmad (77 82). But it is possible to close our eyes to Ahmad s very valid misgivings and take a bird s eye view of Jameson s assertion: read in reaction to the phenomenon of imperialism, perhaps the literature of dominated peoples is the literature of self assertion, however blind to Jameson s national allegorical (or anticolonial) imperative, and however hybrid . Situating Americanah in the Post Colonial Moment Since it is published in 2013, the material reality of Americanah is conditioned, however distantly it seems now, by the phenomenon of colonialism it is written in English, for instance. Although published in 2013, the temporality and spatiality of Americanah s narrative extends backwards to the late 70s when its major protagonist, Ifemelu, was born. As a child, she witnesses the death by firing squad of that famous robbery kingpin, Lawrence Anini (148), and lives through coups, coups attempts, strikes and the usual brand of public dysfunction that still haunts Nigeria, therefore linking its post coloniality with that decidedly African brand of introverted, introspective post independence post coloniality of disillusionment exemplified by novels such as Ayi Kwei Armah s The Beautyful Ones Are Not Yet Born, Chinua Achebe s No Longer at Ease and Anthills of the Savannah, and soon enough with the post coloniality of globalization (and the neoliberal ideology that has hijacked it). As we see in the novel, this disillusionment is the animus of her exile. Ifemelu arrives America in 1997, the year in which Kudirat Abiola, activist wife of M.K.O Abiola, was killed (116). Here, Americanah s post coloniality takes a new turn. This new turn, inaugurated by Ifemelu s (voluntary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pulitzer Prize IV. Personal Analysis A. Ethan Frome Analysis B. Marriage Speculation V. Original Piece A. Neglected Love (Poem) VI. Conclusion VII. Bibliography. ABSTRACT Edith Wharton was a Pulitzer Prize winning female author whose writing style was mainly affected by her aristocratic upbringing. Growing up Edith Wharton was friends with former President Theodore Roosevelt. The two were often compared and both were said to have been self made men . Edith Wharton s novels were often critically acclaimed until Ethan Frome was published. The novel was said to be cruel and violent by critics and casual readers. In my opinion, Edith Wharton s Ethan Frome is a great book that reveals the harsh realities of failed relationships hanging on by a thread combined with the struggle of being poverty stricken. For my original piece, I will write a poem about Edith Wharton s failed marriage that lasted 28 years, as if I were Edith Wharton after her divorce from Edward Wharton. I chose to do a report on Edith Wharton because she was a female writer that believed women were just as capable as men during a time when men were seen as superior in every aspect to women, and also because she achieved much more than most male writers of her time. I believe Edith Wharton s aristocratic upbringing had the main effect on her writing style. Background ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is the case for Obama s Speech on the death of Osama Bin Laden. The goal of Obama s speech is to unite the American people and support the war on terrorism. By doing this Obama unites peoples thoughts making them think the same thing and re ignite the American people s urge for revenge on Al Qaeda.
