For the interethnic church experience, I went to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in
Carmichaels, Pennsylvania. I attended with three of my friends Ashley, Cassandra, and Jennifer.
My friends came along in order to gain the experience from the church with me. We all had
different experiences, but we all felt glad that we went together and to the church. When planning to
go to the church, I read some articles on the proper etiquette of the church, and how to act in an
Orthodox church. The rules included sitting up straight or standing for the whole service as they
do in other parts of the world, and how to venerate an icon. I was nervous to do all these steps,
because I did not want to mess up or offend anybody. However, I practiced and tried to be
prepared. Also, picking an outfit was a struggle because I wanted to be very respectful to the
culture. The church that I attend when I am at home is very relaxed, and do not care if a person
wears jeans to the service. They still want the people in attendance to be respectful and modest,
but besides that, people can wear whatever the feel comfortable in. When preparing to attend this

This chapter is a must read if you have limited knowledge about teaching culturally or
linguistically diverse (CLD) students. This past year, I spent several months filling in for an ESL
teacher. However, since I am not ESL certified I could not sub more than fifteen consecutive days
(not a problem when the school district is short subs and I was frequently pulled). This invaluable
opportunity gave me an enormous amount of experience and yet still left me wanting to know
more about how I can better educate CLD students. After reading this chapter, I have gained a better
understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity and assessments used to evaluate students from

In today s society, there is an abundance of ways to isolate one s self. Many do not realize the
complications that come with prolonged isolation. Arthur Miller, an American playwright of
multiple plays, specifically Death of a Salesman, has won multiple awards, such as; Pulitzer Prize
for Drama, and a Tony Award for Best Play. Miller, is able to distinctly represent complications,
that are coupled with isolation, for Linda and Willy Loman, coping mechanisms for isolation are
vastly different from one another, and still they both succeed in contributing to Willy s own
isolation.
