Tax Benefits Of The Tax
Under the tax law, certain tax benefits can significantly reduce a taxpayer s regular tax amount. The
alternative minimum tax (AMT) applies to taxpayers with high income by setting a limit on those
benefits. It helps to ensure that those taxpayers pay at least a minimum amount of tax. The AMT is
the excess of the tentative minimum taxover the regular tax. Therefore, the AMT is owed only if the
tentative minimum tax is greater than the regular tax. The tentative minimum tax is figured
separately from the regular tax. In general, compute the tentative minimum tax by:
1.Computing taxable income eliminating or reducing certain exclusions and deductions, and taking
into account differences with respect to when certain items are taken into account in computing
regular taxable income and alternative minimum taxable income (AMTI)
2.Subtracting the AMT exemption amount
3.Multiplying the amount computed in (2) by the appropriate AMT tax rates
4.Subtracting the AMT foreign tax credit (IRS.gov, 2016) (p. 1)
The federal tax law sets the AMT exemption amounts and AMT tax rates. Taxpayers can use the
special capital gain rates in effect for the regular tax if they are lower than the AMT tax rates
that would otherwise apply. Some tax credits that reduce regular tax liability do not reduce AMT
tax liability. If a taxpayer is not liable for AMT this year, but he or she paid AMT in one or more
previous years, they may be eligible to take a special minimum tax credit against their

Analysis Of The Book Marchers Of The Night
Whats In The Night The retelling of spooky ghost stories has been a favorite activity in many
cultures, wether it be around a campfire of written in various articles and book. Perhaps one of
the most mysterious supernatural activities can be reported on the islands of Hawaii. Known as
the Night Marchers, these spirits have been known to roam the land, revisiting ancient war sites
and significant historical landmarks. In the book, Marchers of the Night by Helen P. Hoyt, a
renowned Hawaiian author, he describes his first experience with the Huaka ipo, or the Night
Marchers. In all the hundred years of my life I have seen the Marchers of the Night, the Huaka ipo,
only twice... (Hoyt 1969). He then continues to explain how on the night of the sixth of August,
1918, a night sacred to Ku, ancient god of all warriors the Night Marchers, which their torches and
pounding drums came to his house in the town of Waianae. Based on the many stories about the
Night Marchers and the other cultures around the world who have similar spirits, I will attempt to
demonstrate that these ghosts are more fact than fiction. Hawaiihas a rich background of folklores
and mythology and it s link to the past in ever present. Stories of the Night Marchers were first
written about in the late 1900 s but they were orally passed down long before that. Their native
name is Huaka ipo, but was translated to english as the Night Marchers. The term derives from the
two words, huaka i which means to

Multiculturalism In Canada
Canada is routinely defined as the exemplar multicultural society with the most diverse cities in the
world such as Vancouver, Toronto and Quebec. The concepts of integrity and complexity are being
shaped in Canadian society because of its co existence of different cultures. Indeed,
multiculturalism has been a keystone of Canadian policy for over 40 years with the aim of
pursuing Canadian unity (Flegel 2002). Accordingly, Canadais generally estimated a country where
people are all equal and where they can share fundamental values based upon freedom. Diversity is
sustained and promoted by governmental policy, however, there are still racist interactions, which
are destructive to minorities integration, especially recent ethnic groups arrival (Banting Kymlicka
2010). This paper will examine challenges that multiculturalismhas brought society and residents of
Canada. There is a growing of ethnic groups from non European societies, who can meet Canadian
economic development in term of their level of education, occupational skills and languages. Those
ethnic groups are called immigrants because they are neither indigenous nor colonist settlers but are
accepted through Canada s immigrationpolicy (Banting 2010). Even though diverse cultures and
differences of minorities were recognized and celebrated within the bilingual framework during the
multiculturalism policy of the 1970s, their full equal participations are still excluded from the
mainstream society (Leung 2012).

Muscle Soreness Essay
Muscle Soreness Nearly anyone who works out regularly has experienced sore muscles after
exercise. Sometimes you will feel it later that night, or the next morning and in some cases, you
may actually think you are out of the woods, only to wake up two days later with stiff, tender
muscles that feel as tight as rubber bands. For some people, sore muscles are a reward after a
hard workout. In fact, some people are not happy unless they are sore after their workout, while
others could live without it. Either way, all of us have probably experienced musclesoreness at one
time or another. There are two types of exercise related muscle soreness. Immediate muscle

According to Richard Weil, Med, CDE, the answer is swelling in the muscle compartment that
result from an influx of white blood cells, which are anti inflammatory, and other nutrients and
fluids that flow to the muscle to repair the damage after a tough workout. The type of muscle
referred to is microscopic and is part of the normal process of growth in the body called
anabolism. It is not the type of damage or injury that you see your doctor about. The swelling
and inflammation can build up for days after a workout, and that is why muscle soreness may be
worse two , three, or three or even four days after a workout for muscles to heal completely
depending on the intensity of the workout. Muscle soreness can be prevented with some measure
taken. Start exercise program slowly and exercise for a short time only. Increase your activity a
little each day until personal goal is reach. Once an individual has experienced delayed muscle
soreness at specific exercise intensity, he or she shouldn t encounter that sensation again until the
intensity level is increased. This is because muscle soreness has been shown to produce a rapid
adaptation response, which means that the muscles adapt to a given exercise intensity level. Unless
the exercise intensity level is changed, soreness will not occur. Base on how much intensity level
as individual increase the recommended approach to preventing delayed muscle soreness are as
follows; gradual progression and conservative increases in

Observe a Sixth Grade English Class at Bain Middle School
I observe at Roosevelt Middle School, which is in River Forest, in
Mrs. Braun s sixth grade English class on Tuesdays in the morning. As
I have observed, I have noticed that the classroom is student centered. During computer time, Mrs.
Braun focused more on helping the students get into the computer program to start the assignment
than on having enough time to get the assignment done.
Several times, Mrs. Braun gave helpful comments on how to do things on the computer or in the
program, such as how to install automatic spell check. Mrs. Braun was also very patient as she was
being asked questions while she was trying to explain the assignment. From what I saw, some ...

Braun, and then vocabulary is covered. Then a vocabulary assignment is given with any other
new assignments on what is being cover in class. Next the teacher reads or goes over any
assigned readings from the book that is being covered in class. This is the same basic routine for
period two.
The third period is computer time and the routine seems to vary. There is a quick transition from
activity to activity during these routines.
The classroom environment is that of a basic classroom setting. There are some decorations and
other things hanging on the wall. Among the decorations is a hand made calendar on the wall by
Mrs. Braun s desk.
There is a history of each student s last name on the wall on the other side of Mrs. Braun s desk.
There seems to be a controlled temperature and lighting in the classroom and they are set at an
adequate setting. The room is arranged with five groups of desks in a circular type shape. In the
middle of the room is a cart where new assignments are put and reading journals are kept. There are
different locations throughout the room for different supplies. With the layout of the room, it
seems there is adequate space to move around and do in class activities. The physical space also
seems conducive to teaching and learning. The physical space, including seating and grouping
arrangements, seems to enhance cooperation and learning because there seems to be fewer

Egoism And Egoism In Peter Parker s Spider Man
The stimulus that I have chosen for this internal assessment is a scene from the movie, Spider
Man 2. Peter Parker struggles to find a balance between his Spider man life and his life as a
citizen; his grades are steadily declining at university, he gets fired from his job and cannot find
any time for his friends. In the scene that I selected, Parker realizes that he has a choice, that there
are no obligations for him to climb walls and fight crime for a safer environment. He then decides
to throw his Spider Mancostume in a bin and forget about his super hero life, in order to focus on
his own life. As a result, his life as an individual is thriving, his grades at university are getting
better, and he doesn t have to fight crime anymore, which offers him more time for his beloved
ones and personal ambitions.
150 words Should an individual act for his own benefit? Or should he act for the sake of others? In
ethics it is assumed that right actions demand an individual to act for the sake of others, this
concept is known as altruism. However this view is challenged by the concept of egoism: the idea

It is clear that an unjust man who has possession of the ring would act egoistically. But what
about the righteous man? Since he would not have any consequences for what he does, he does
not feel fear, in that case why would he act altruistically? According to Glaucon, he would not act
altruistically, as there are no consequences to his actions. I personally think that it depends on a
lot of factors and the person himself. For example a priest that has acted altruistically throughout
his life will probably act altruistically even while he possesses the ring of Gyges. He probably
does not want to act egoistically and the way he was brought up and educated will influences the

Treblinka Uprising
Although many resisters knew they were not going to survive, it didn t matter, they chose to die

White Girl Sisterhood
In her book, Black Feminism Thought Knowledge, Consciousness, and the Politics of
Empowerment, Patricia Hill Collins addresses the above topic of black female sisterhood and
solidarity by confirming that This relationship of sisterhood among black women can be seen as
a model for a series of relationships African American women have with one another (260). That
is to say, this relationship between black women is seen as a usual one since they have always
been fighting the stereotypical images drawn on the black female body. Actually, by placing the
white girl in this context of black female sisterhood, Kidd manages to create new racial and
cultural spaces that lead to the women s healing. This is demonstrated at the end of Kidd s novel,...

Lily has finally forgotten her bleak past. She decides to move forward towards a brilliant future
accompanied with the black women. Rosaleen s healing is due to the presence of the Calendar
Sisters; she is freed from the pain and racial discrimination in the white society. She finally sees
herself mirrored through these black women who embrace her and welcome her as their true

Collins states that Black women may assist a black woman in this journey toward personal
empowerment but the ultimate responsibility for self definition and self valuation lies within the
individual woman herself (195). Previously, she is beaten because of her strong will to change
her situation in her quest for the right to vote. At the end , she asserts herself as a true female as
she leaves the Calendar Sisters house to register to vote. Within this mingling of races, June

who enjoys the presence of both guests, starts adapting to the new atmosphere of the female bond

Drosophila Melanogaster
Drosophila melanogaster Sex linkage and inheritance of genes through cross breeding
Abstract
This experiment looks at the relationship between genes, generations of a population and if genes
are carried from one generation to another. By studying Drosophila melanogaster, starting with a
parent group we crossed a variety of flies and observe the characteristics of the F1 generation. We
then concluded that sex linked genes and autosomal genes could indeed be traced through from the
parent generation to the F1 generation.
Introduction
Sex linkage and inherited genes allow us to predict and understand how and why certain animals
and plants inherit features from their parents while some don t. Sex linkage is the condition in

Care was taken to not let the immobilised Drosophila drown in the white media until they were
flying again.
The vial was then labeled accordingly with the type of cross (Male Vg, Female W) and the date.
The date is important as the Drosophila complete a life cycle within approximately 2 weeks from
the mating day. This vial became known as the parent generation or (P).
The vial was then kept in a moderate temperature out of the sun and by the end of the first week
the parent generation had laid eggs, hatched and the next generation were between the larva stage
and the pupa stage. At this point, the parent generations was no longer required and were decanted
out into ethyl alcohol, killed and disposed of. They did not need to be scored (inspected) as we
already knew what they were.
We then kept the vial with the juvenile Drosophila for another 2 weeks in the same conditions as
above and found that the F1 generation had hatched and laid eggs of their own. We then decanted
the F1 generation into alcohol to kill them and kept them aside to score. The vial containing the
new generation F2 of Drosophila was then kept for use in a further experiment.
The F1 generation that we had just decanted was then moved to a dissecting microscope for
scoring, this generation included 20 Drosophila flies that we could then inspect for different traits
using the microscope (traits being the sex of

kilometres of annual replenishable groundwater re sources. With a net annual groundwater
availability of 399 cubic kilometres, the net withdrawals in 2004 amounted to 58% of the net

Agriculture is the source of livelihood for majority of Indian population. Groundwater is contended
to have ushered green revolution in the country. Groundwater irrigation has ensured food security
in times of deficit rainfall and facilitated a manifold increase in agricultural productivity. The

blue zone is a place to make beans have a good taste for protein.
The United States is a tough nut to crack, given the preponderance of fast foods outlets and wall to

Fast food has become something exaggerated can not handle it, and governments take from this
social problem a personal decision, where most of the world s population is eating these foods
instead of healthy foods.
What lessons of Blue Zone living can our readers bring home?
Firstly, Blue zone that give us instructions on food Guidance. Secondly, we have to take a look at

The Fenian Movement
Fenian Movement, which was organized 1858, started as a secret revolutionary society in Ireland

Dr. Seuss The Appeaser Cartoon
Nearly all of us are familiar with the witty rhymes and colorful drawings of Dr. Seuss. Simply

of Great Britain by the small island that the man is standing on. It s easy to tell that the man
obviously doesn t have much hope in appeasing the creature coming out of the sea. He is
surrounded on all sides, he has nowhere to run or hide from his impending doom. And yet he
still seems confident, overly so. He is portrayed as being pompous, as if he still sees himself as

just hand out small lollypops to this beast and then expect it to go back where it came from. The
man on the island is treating this threat as if it were an unruly child, confident that if he just gives
the beast a taste of something sweet, it will run along and no longer be bothersome. From the

Marked Woman Deborah Tannen Summary
Marked Women
In Deborah Tannen s article There is No Unmarked Woman she focuses on how women are
being misconceived and prejudged on solely the way they re dressed. The main point in the
article is that there is no such thing as an unmarked woman men have the option and women
simply do not. To be marked in the way Tannen states it is changing the meaning of a word by
simply adding a participle, but that participle has no meaning on its own. Deborah Tannen points
out that even in the English language marked is a staple of linguistic theory. By simply adding a
linguistic participle to a word that already has no meaning by itself can change the meaning of a
word. As Tannen states in her article that women must make a decision on how they wish to
appear on a day to day basis through their makeup, hair style, shoes, clothes, etc. When women are
choosing how to appear everyday they re trying to escape the preconceptions that men never really
have to face due to more narrow decisions. Tannen makes a good statement when she refers to the
research of Ralph Fasold in which men are actually marked. Fasold points out that girls are born
with fully female bodies, while boys are born with modified female bodies. Tannen writes. In
conclusion Tannen says how she s upset the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Epistolary Form Of Writing
The epistle in its most basic form is simply a letter, with the epistolary form in the Eighteenth
Century being a published letter often from one writer to another. This mode of writing was
extremely popular in the Eighteenth Century, taking on different contexts for different purposes.
An epistle can be a complex genre of writing. The Epistle can be a collection of poems, a satirical
essay, a response to an author s works or a raging sparring of words. Although quite constraining in
format, an epistle addressed to someone, be it explicit or not can capture the minds of many.
The epistle is notably an ancient form of writing, originating in Egypt as early as 1292 BC.

Horace s work does indeed showcase his view of literary culture of that time, highlighting the
change that is occurring and setting rules and boundaries of writing poetry.
From Ancient Greece to Eighteenth Century England the epistle s importance still remains. With
the Ancients vs Moderns argument being in full effect, this added leverage to the use of the epistle
in satire, reproducing the epistolary form as Greats before them had also used. The difference
between Modern thinkers were in stark contrast to the Neo Classical thinkers of the time. The Neo
Classical Aesthetic embodied a group of attitudes towards art and human existence. That of order,
logic, restraint, accuracy, decorum and correctness was favoured over the Renaissance thinkers that
believed imagination, invention, experimentation and mysticism was more important to feature in
Literature. The Augustan Age in which Pope, being a central poetic figure at that time had the most
famous and well recognised modern epistles written both by him and also aimed at him.
Criticism was increasingly popular in the 18th Century, with enjoyment coming from both the
original text and the opinions and responses to the text by others. Of course, Pope perceived some
criticism as incorrect and a personal attack on his own being rather than input on his actual body of
work. These attacks, however, motivate Alexander Popefurther, giving him more material

Pediatric Lab Assignment For this assignment, my groupmates and I decided to use the Peabody
Developmental Motor Scale. We chose this assessment because our patient was a chronological
age of thirteen months (premature 1 week, 9 days) and were aiming to look at her gross motor
function in the following areas: reflexes, stationary, locomotion, object manipulation. Our results
provided us with raw scores of: 12 for reflexes, 36 for stationary, 53 for locomotion and 1 for

percentile ranks to her chronological age and her corrected age. Upon doing so, we found that our
patient was in higher percentile ranks for her corrected age than her chronological age.

Taking a Look at Pakeha
What interests me is what it means to be Pakeha without falling into the politics of blame, or of
guilt, or what Ghassan Hage (2000) has termed white and very worried about the nation subject (p.
10). HageКјs unpicking of the subtly racist differentiations of white liberalism has many
applications. Being Pakeha is itself a privileging position, a frankly indigenizing claim, nowhere
more clearly demonstrated than in the popular and influential memoir texts of New Zealand
historian Michael King, Being Pakeha (1985), Pakeha: The quest for identity in New Zealand

When King died in 2004, there was a lot of comment about the untimeliness of his accidental death,
not only that he seemed too young but New Zealand Prime Minister at the time, Helen Clark said
that he was a voice of reason and enlightenment on New Zealand race relations (Adams, 2004, para.
8).
King s influential book, Being Pakeha Now (2004) is a warm and modest account of an
exceptional life story. Subtitled ʻReflections and Recollections of a White Nativeʼ, a term that
is reasonably dis comforting these days, the cover features a quotation in which King claims that
Pakeha New Zealanders who are committed to this land and its people are no less indigenous
than Maori , and his aim is to demonstrate how this might be the case (King, 2004, p. 1). One of
the points he makes, by way of an extended genealogy of family and childhood, is that Pakeha is a
relatively recently adopted term

The Germans and French are interested in very specific amendments to ensure that the
budgetary rules for eurozone members are strict and observed. However, the main concern is
that tampering with the EU s founding texts leaves us paralyzed by ideological and political

stimulating growth. UK s as the natural leader of the outs : The UK government has worked
hard to build up relationships across the EU. Let s imagine the case made that, if the eurozone

not joined the euro). In every European country, liberals believe in integration because we
understand that our nations are stronger together than we are apart. We can t forget that the EU

openness is the glue that fixes the EU together and the solution to the crisis of European

Hero Worship
Hero worship never died and never will (Carlyle, 208).The dreams of becoming a superhero, the
desire for success, and the worship of heroic figures are deeply rooted in our hearts. My feelings
about heroes are always triggered by the most pervasive form of modern art films. Every time I
watch a heroic film, I feel deeply moved by the strong personalities of the hero. In different films,
he can either be a cowboy riding a horse, a warrior who fights for the independence of a country, a
policeman who strikes the criminals or a successful man who makes a great contribution in a
certain field. And right now, when writing this essay, the first heroic figure coming up on my mind
is Rancho in the Bollywood film 3 idiots. Rancho s strong... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Last but not least, I refer to Rancho as a hero because he has profound influences on his friends
and people around him, and he is always ready to sacrifice for them. As Browne (1990)
demonstrates in his article, yet the ultimate and final unselfish act is, of course, death in the
service of others. Putting another way, Browne here suggests that heroes are always ready to
help others and the noblest heroic act is to sacrifice one s life for others. In the movie, Rancho
always considers his friends happiness before his. He has tried every possible way to persuade
his friend Farhan and Raju to chase their own dreams instead of living under the shadow of their
families. Though this is not an easy task, Rancho has made this possible by sacrificing his own
happiness been expelled from the college. Though Rancho s sacrifice is not as big as the noblest
one , he did have tried whatever he can to make his friends a better life, which makes him
undoubtedly the hero of his friends. In conclusion, although there are several reasons why I refer

The Divine Command Theorist Approach
Making decisions can be easy at times when it does not require much thought; however, it can be
complicated, especially when it involves people s lives. If, for instance, there is a boat holding
seventy five people but it should only hold fifty in order to ensure the safety of the passengers
and lessen the risk of the boat sinking, who will be asked to leave the boat? There are also one
hundred individuals in the water whose lives must be considered; what can be done in a tight
situation such as this one where time is not in your hands? It is important to remember only fifty
people can be saved while one hundred and twenty five individuals might die. This can prove to be
a strenuous and gut wrenching challenge. There are several different... Show more content on

In this situation this theory would suggest to do what is just, but overall what God believes to
be right. According to this theory, God believes that the people on the boat as well as those in
the water should not be left to die. The people on the boat cannot morally abandon the rest and
leave them to die. A divine command theorist pays very close attention to every person on the
boat as well as the those in the water. Overall, the individual will make a decision based on what
is thought to be good by God despite not establishing what is wrong or right, as mentioned by
Plato, making it debatable (Vaughn 17). Since divine theorists view the Ten Commandments as
God s morals codes, it is suggested by such theorist that by choosing to leave a great amount of
the individuals behind, it is immoral; God says individuals shall help their neighbor. With this
information, there comes a time in which God, himself, has to make these types of decisions, and
by believing in him, a divine theorist will unfortunately sacrifice some people, but not without
saving as many people as they possibly can. While doing what is thought to be right by God, they
will, nonetheless, leave individuals behind and essentially, commit murder, which can be seen as a
controversial dilemma. In one way or another, they are somehow going to take an action that leads
to an immoral result. Not everyone will be saved without risking

Disadvantages Of Handoff Schemes
D. Handoff schemes Handoff scheme refers to systematic and organized plans to handle handoff,
including configuration of network, design procedure of handoff, and specific handoff process
management. Based on certain criteria these schemes are categorized as : 1. Handoff schemes
based on Prioritization: 1.1 Non Prioritization schemes: This Scheme [16] has been employed by
the typical radio technologies proposed for the Personal Communication Systems (PCS) operating
at the band of 2 GHz. This scheme does not differentiate handoff and initial (new or originating)
request calls. As long as, there is a channel available in the cell, either an originating or a handoff
call request will be served. If there are not any free channels, the request is blocked immediately.
Advantage: The channel allocation is relatively easy. Disadvantage: The main disadvantage of this
scheme is that, since no priority is given to handoff request calls over originating calls, the forced
termination probability is relatively higher than it is normally anticipated [16], and also there is no
proper channel utilization.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, all these requirements cannot be satisfied simultaneously, and therefore, tradeoffs
between all of them are carried out. From the users perspective, the termination of an ongoing call
is more annoying than the blocking of a new call [18] [19],[77] [78]. Consequently, the handoff
blocking and the forced termination probabilities ought to be minimized. To achieve these
requirements several handoff prioritizing schemes have been

Harvey Munson Research Paper
The ears are one of the most complex and interesting systems thats human body has and the sounds
we hear are actually in many different parts deflected, absorbed, and also filtered by our different
body parts. It s then collected by our pinnae (the external part of or ears), whose dimensions further
affect the soundon its way into ear. There, vibrations are translated into signals, which are
interpreted by your brain. In the 1930s, two scientists at Bell Labs, Harvey Fletcher and Wilden A.

humans understand the hearing process.

The Loudness button on consumer stereo receivers is an equalization circuit that boosts the highs
and lows as the volume is lowered so the music will sound the same whether soft or loud. Noise
shaping circuits filter dither and quantization noise into the extreme upper range, where we will
simply notice it less.
To describe the concept of equal loudness regardless of frequency, the unit phon was developed.
Each curve of the equal loudness contours defines a single phon level. For example, the curve
that is 40 dB SPL at 1 kHz is defined as 40 phons; 40 phons at 10 kHz is therefore approximately
50 dB SPL and at 100 Hz slightly more than 60 dB SPL. Phons and decibels SPL are the same for
a 1 kHz tone an increase of 10 phons is equal to an increase of 10 dB at 1 kHz, but it may be more
or less at other frequencies. Many audio measurements are made using weighting curves that
attempt to skew the results in favor of the way we actually hear. For example, the signal to noise
ratio of a microphone preamp might be listed as 108 dB A weighted, or sometimes just 108
dB(A). This means that the noise was filtered before measurement to exclude the extreme lows
and highs to approximately the same degree our ears do at 40 phons. The rationale is that if we
listen to the device at that level, then we will perceive the noise floor to be

The Green Curve Of The Graph
Our planet is experiencing a level of climate changes previously unreached. Through the analysis of
ice cores, tree rings, glacier lengths, pollen remains and ocean sediments (EPA, 2016), scientists
have been able to piece together the Earth s climate for roughly the last million years (some claim
several millions of years). Through this research and the study of historic environmental events, it
has been determined that the Earths climate changes from warmer to cooler over thousands of
years due to natural reasons such as changes in solar energy, volcanic eruptions, and natural
changes in the emission of greenhouse gases (EPA, 2016). However, in the last ~150 years or so,
this trend has deviated severely due to human causes. This graph obtained from the EPA (EPA,
2016), shows the change in global temperatures from the last century. The green curve of the graph
depicts the natural factors that influence climate on Earth. The blue curve of the graph depicts the
natural factors plus the human factors that s influence climate on Earth. Through the inclusion of
human factors, there is a drastic increase in temperature change. Many greenhouse gases are fund
pollutants (Tietenberg Lewis, 2015), which can be reintegrated back into the environment over a
period of time. However, during the time it takes for them to be recycled back, these gases sit in
the Earth s atmosphere. The increased emission of greenhouse gases has caused a greenhouse effect

Tempest in a Bottle
Old enough to fight, Old enough to drink. We all know that famous saying. Do you agree with
this quote? I don t agree with it. Teenage and underage college students drinking have been a
longstanding problem in the American culture. They look at drinking as something glamorous,

eighteen you are a legal adult and can do adult things like vote, smoke, marry, drive, fly, pay

The fact that they don t know when they will be able to drink again is the reason why most
underage teens and college student tend to get overly drunk when they get a chance. As a result
there are problems as serious as deaths. My last reason is that may save a life. According to the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, increasing the minimum drinking age to 25 or
leaving it at 21 is credited with having saved 18,200 lives on the national s highway. The National
Highway Traffic Safety estimates that a legal drinking age of 21 saves 700 to 1,000 lives annually.
Since 1976, these laws have prevented more than 21,000 traffic death. But I feel if the drinking
age was raised to 25 it would help prevent early teen alcoholism. If not adolescents who begin
drinking in life early run the risk of developing serious alcohol problems. They are also at risk for a
variety of adverse consequences, including risky sexual activity and poor performance in school.

The Emancipation Proclamation Book Review Essay

In the book The Emancipation Proclamation, the author John Hope Franklin, tells a story of the
emancipation of slaves through the trials of then, President Abraham Lincoln. He leads us through
the action before, during, and after the issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation in an attempt to
give us a greater understanding of the actions taken by President Lincoln.
In the years prior to 1862 and 1863, many people were calling on President Lincoln for the
emancipation of the slaves. Many felt that slavery would be the evil that would bring the country

Others doubted that it was even legal. But as Union victories fell into place a vast majority of
people came to support the proclamation.
Actually, the proclamation freed no slaves. It applied only to Confederate territory, where federal
officers could not enforce it. The proclamation did not affect slavery in the loyal Border States.
Lincoln repeatedly urged those states to free their slaves, and to pay the owners for their loss. He
promised financial help from the federal government for this purpose. The failure of the states to
follow his advice was one of his great disappointments.
The Emancipation Proclamation did have a great long range effect. It gave a new character to the
war. It gave the North a new weapon in Negro soldiers. Also in the North, it gave a high moral
purpose to the struggle and paved the way for the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution. This
amendment, adopted in December 1865, ended slavery in all parts of the United States.
Overall I found the book to be well written and very informative. It gave an accurate account of the
time during the Emancipation Proclamation. John Hope Franklin used his sources to paint a vivid
picture of a time of great change. While many historians have dealt with the Emancipation
Proclamation as a phase or an aspect of the Civil War, few have given more than little attention to
the evolution of the document in the mind of Lincoln, the circumstances and conditions that led to

What is HIV/AIDS?
HIV stands for Human immunodeficiency Virus. This virus weakens a person s ability to fight

The Popularity Of Characteristics In Mary Rowlandson s...
Captivity narratives are so popular because people find it more interesting to read something that
is written in first person. Not only is it important that the narrative is in first person, but the writer
is also describing all the events that occurred during their time in captivity, which is very
emotional and people enjoy reading things because of that emotional appeal. Captivity is not
something that most people want to experience, but people want to read about it so that they have
a better understanding of what happens to these victims and even be able to sympathize for them,
and maybe provide support for others who have recently been in captivity. I think that most people
have a big enough heart to where if they read a captivity narrative, they would feel sympathy
towards all people who have been victims of captivity. Most importantly, I believe that captivity
narratives are popular and appealing to the reader because throughout the narrative it shows how the
victimdealt with the situation, and how they were able to survive captivity until they were found.
In Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative, all of these things are expressed, and she discusses her
entire journey through captivity. One of the main things to take away from this narrative is the
amount of faith that is portrayed throughout all the difficult times. Anyone who were to read this
captivity narrative would recognize how important Rowlandson s faith was to her and her family;

place. In order to overcome and solve this problem Mobile Virtual Centre of Excellence (VCE)
has performed a project named Green Project in the year 2009 and the main aim of this project is
to overcome all the problems and to develop a process which is going to save energy in future
wireless systems. This paper deals with the technical parts of the project and details several other
current energy consumption models in the base station devices. This article also provides some
good ideas in reduction of the energy consumption for the future radio base stations which helps to
reduce the burden on the network providers.
INTRODUCTION
In the recent days there is rapid growth in the mobile telephony or mobile users that leads to the
higher data rate mobile broadband and increased services of information technology which in turn
consumes overall energy usage of the world. It is our main objective to reduce the energy
consumption of radio access networks. For example, a mobile network in UK consumes

Language Assessments For English Language Learners Essay
Spinelli Chapter 5 Oral and English Language Learner/Bilingual
This chapter identifies language assessments for English Language Learners and Bilingual students.
Over the next several years, the United States educational system will see a dramatic increase in
culturally and linguistically diverse students from various racial and ethnic minority groups.
This chapter is a must read if you have limited knowledge about teaching culturally or
linguistically diverse (CLD) students. This past year, I spent several months filling in for an ESL
teacher. However, since I am not ESL certified I could not sub more than fifteen consecutive days
(not a problem when the school district is short subs and I was frequently pulled). This invaluable
opportunity gave me an enormous amount of experience and yet still left me wanting to know
more about how I can better educate CLD students. After reading this chapter, I have gained a better
understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity and assessments used to evaluate students from
minority backgrounds. Additionally, I believe this is what makes this chapter truly unique. Over the
next several years, I think we are going to see an increase of CLD students in the learning
environment. It is imperative to the educational environment to learn how to best serve these
students and avoid inaccurate referrals and misdiagnosis.
Spinelli begins the chapter by introducing speech and language disorders and how they can affect

Bedouins In The Arabian Peninsula
Between 200 to 800 CE, the Arabian Peninsula went through drastic changes over time in a time
period of 6 centuries. People from the Arabian Peninsula started to convert to Islam from Animist
Polytheist. The main focus of these 2 time periods were based heavily on religion and the status of
women increasing then suddenly deteriorating following Prophet Muhammads death in 632.
In 200 CE, The majority of the Arabian Peninsula was Animist Polytheist, people who believed in
nature spirits. The social structure of the Bedouins in the Arabian peninsula were tribal clans.
Their structure is based upon a kinship and the leader of family is part of a bigger social
structure consisting of councils and elders. Women also had a high status in comparison to the
other empires, as their advice was also considered valuable. Many of the Bedouins who lived in
Arabian Peninsula carved and worshipped idols whom they believed to be intermediary to the
almighty Gods. Arab polytheism, the dominant form in pre Islamic Arabia was based on
veneration of deities and other rituals. The Gods and Goddesses were worshipped in local shrines
such as the Ka Ba in Mecca. Many of the pre Islamic figures gods were traced to Idols, especially
near the Ka Ba which is determined to have roughly 300 of them. ... Show more content on

Capital Budgeting Is A Step Process An Organization
Capital budgeting is a step by step process an organization use to evaluate the merits and
viabilities of long term investment project. The evaluation techniques used in capital budgeting
essentially center on the costs of investments relative to the benefits that will be generate from
the investment. Capital budgeting is important because its decisions impact the firm for several
years (Capital Budgeting, 2009) so, they must be carefully planned.
The VDOT, as many organizations, uses capital budgeting to enable the organization to estimate

Education in Saudi Arabia Essay
Education remains to be the priority of all nations around the globe. Most countries devote vast
resources to guarantee equal education opportunities to all their students. Most education systems
are developed to meet the economic and social demands of the country, both locally and globally.
As the world s 8th highest educationspender, Saudi Arabiainitiates an overhaul on the education
system. It is the largest country in the Middle East. The Saudi Arabian education has gone through
an astounding transformation. Initially, education was only available to few people who were
children of the wealthy families. However, the transformation of the Saudi Education is now

Declining Birth Rates
Before, characterizing the family was straightforward. Couples had a tendency to live together after
marriage, with kids following not long after. Presently, be that as it may, things have changed.
Characterizing the average structure of an advanced family is significantly more confounded, with
less relational unions, rising separation rates and expanding quantities of common associations
testing the present. Throughout the year s American thought of a familyhas changed in Declining
birth rates, moves in marriageand separation levels, and single parentfamilies.
Throughout the years, the declining birth rates have changed. In 1971, the normal family measure
was 2.9 individuals however, in 2006, this figure had fallen by 17% to 2.4 individuals. Amid a
similar period, the youngsters per family fell by 10% from 2.0 to 1.8, however, this figure

The Military Decision Making Process Essay
The Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) is an analytical and deliberate process that
commanders follow using seven steps that includes the receipt of the mission, mission analysis,
course of action development, course of action analysis, course of action comparison, course of
action approval and orders production. The MDMP gives leaders a thorough process to follow that
provides clarity and synchronization for operations even under time constrained environments. We
need an Army that is trained on making decisions, able to anticipate needs and able to be proactive
in accomplishing tasks even when unexpected duties arise. The MDMP sets the Army up for
success in getting to this point. Without the MDMP, leaders will struggle to make crucial decisions
and they will certainly struggle to make them under pressure during time sensitive missions.
Not just our own history but the history of other countries has shown that running military
operations without planning properly can result in inconceivable losses. At the National Defense
Executive Reserve Conference on November 14, 1957, Dwight D. Eisenhower was quoted as
stating: I heard long ago in the Army: plans are worthless, but planning is everything. The
MDMP is a single, established, and proven analytical process (US Department of the Army,
1997). The process is crucial to our success not just because of the course of action (COA)
developed out of it but more so because of what we learn out of the process along the way.

Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Frankenstein
Coleridge s Rime of the Ancient Mariner tells the story of an ancient mariner who kills an
albatross and brings upon himself and his ship s crew a curse. The ancient mariner travels the
world, unburdening his soul, telling his story to whomever needs to hear it. Shelley alludes to the
poem several times.
Robert Walton in Frankenstein is similar to the Wedding Guest from Rime of the Ancient Mariner,
with Victor Frankenstein playing the role of the mariner. As the mariner feels compelled to share
his story to one who needs to hear it, so does Victor. The explicit theme in Rime of the Ancient
Mariner, that love conquers all, is a clue as to how the tragedy that occurs in Frankenstein s life
could have been avoided.

The very deep did rot: O Christ! That ever this should be! Yes, slimy things did crawl with legs
Upon the slimy sea (Coleridge pt. II, st. 9).
This quote shows The Mariner s outlook on nature in the beginning of the poem. The Mariner refers
to the creatures of the sea as slimy things, which obviously has a negative connotation. However,
once Coleridge teaches his character the lesson of the inherent beauty in nature, the Mariner learns
that all creatures are beautiful. In Shelley s piece, which also has this theme, it seems that
Frankenstein really never learns this lesson, while the creature does seem to grasp this concept.
I beheld those I loved spend vain sorrow upon the graves of William and Justine, the first hapless
victims to my unhallowed arts (Shelley 79).
This quote shows Shelley s theme of how devastating the consequences can be for one single
unthinking act. Obviously, Victor s single unthinking act was his creation of the creature. When he
made this creature, there is no way that he thought he would kill two of his closest loved ones, and
later kill more. However, it happened and Shelley is showing us how devastating the effects can be.
Similarly, in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, The Mariner also suffers for a single, unthinking act.
His act was the killing of the albatross. He paid for it in more than one way. First, he was sent to a
Life in Death, then after he

Radbruch Stalegary Lawlessness And Supra-Statutory Law
In Statutory Lawlessness and Supra Statutory Law Gustav Radbruch talks about the Radbruch
Formula that states extreme injustice is no law. (p.126) Radbruch is against positive law because
in a situation of conflict between legal certainty and justice, positive law takes precedence even
when the content is unjust and fails to benefit the people. (p.132) This is one of the main reasons
why Radbruch criticizes positive law, it fails to create justice for the people. Another reason is that
according to Radbruch, positive law is incapable of establishing validity of the statutes. Legal
validity states that for a law to be valid, it must be given a rule of recognition, which the officials,
the society and its members must accept. Members should have the ability to change the laws that
govern them and since the positive law does not allow this, certain members of the society are
subject to unjust laws, and they cannot do anything about it. For Radbruch, the idea of law
comprises of three things; the purpose of the law in serving the public benefit, justice, and legal
certainty. Out of these three, Radbruch emphasized that legal certainty has the most importance.
Legal certainty is a characteristic of positive law, which means that the legislature enacts the statute.
It ensures consistency in the interpretation of law from time to time and supports the notion that
any statute is better than no statue. Legal certainty is required for public benefit and for justice.

I have chosen to pursue research in the field of biology because I enjoy the approach of logical
thinking to satisfy the curiosity of me and the world around me. Although, sometimes it is

During my doctoral training, it was fortunate for me to work as a teaching assistant during the

Ritalin
Ritalin amp; Cocaine: Controversial Connection
Today it seems that many children, especially boys, are diagnosed with ADHD, four times more
than girls. Is it more prevalent now or just recognized more within our society? Those diagnosed
with ADHD have a hard time concentrating and are prone to outburst based on the emotions they
are feeling at the time rather than reason. This is caused by lower levels of dopamine in their brains.
The most commonly prescribed drug to treat ADHD is Ritalin. The dopamine transporter within the
brain moves dopamine from the synapse to the sending neuron. Ritalin blocks the dopamine
transporter, therefore, increasing the dopamine level at the synapse.
Similarly, in recent studies, cocaine has the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do believe that some individuals may be in need of prescriptions that control things like
dopamine levels; however, by stripping away all processed foods and going organic when
available, I think studies would prove a decrease in ADHD and also things like Autism. Society
should demand a higher quality of chemical free food produced by farmers and higher quality
control before going to market. The unfortunate truth is that currently it would require more dollars
on both ends to accomplish such a task.
Mothers eating processed foods during pregnancy and children eating quick and easy snacks are in
my opinion creating a generation of individuals that have a lack of coping mechanisms directly
contributed from the imbalance of a healthy cellular system. Although unaware of why they have a
feeling of disconnect, this leads them to seek comfort in prescribed or controlled substances to feel
calm or in control.
Because of Ritalin s similarity to cocaine, some believe it to be a gateway drug, but studies have
shown that Ritalin users are less likely to experiment than those who were not prescribed Ritalin .
Gateway drugs are perceived to be a drug that may lead to the use of other, more addictive drugs.
Continued use and over prescribed use may in the long term

The Theory And Its Impact On The Field
Taking history into consideration, there have been many phases that have resulted in a negative
turn in the field. I believe that the major downsides to our history have been primarily involved
with the strict empiricism point of view and its similar counterparts. Beginning with Aristotle
and his concept of Tabula Rasa, it is difficult to prove that this is true. The justification for this
theory is minimal as we are far more complex to have a blank mind. Our mind is not blank and
we have clear emotions that are present throughout the day. We justify our experiences and learn
from them for the future. Our mind is capable of being creative and finding our potential in other
aspects that are difficult to explain and attribute their origin from. If we keep believing this or
any form of this theory, we would not be capable of seeking new aspects of the field. Initially, the
movement towards a having a psychological science did not have much progression. This lack of
movement was primarily seen during the Dark Ages. During this era, there was no longer
contributions to move science forward. There was a clear hierarchy in which the church resided
above all, which hindered the movement towards achieving innovative scientific ideas.
Scholasticism was practiced and everyone followed what was allowed by religion. This did not
work for the sciences as there were no new perspectives to advance the field. Considering that it
was also difficult for individuals to communicate

Young Luis Research Paper
Growing up in East Los Angeles was especially rough for a young Latino teen. The area where
he grew up in was full of violence and drugs. In order to be able to live there, you have to have a
strong sense of character to avoid all the temptations that the gang life can provide you with. You
need to have an even stronger character to even get involved with a gangin the first place. I m
saying this because once you are in a gang there is only 3 ways out: going to jail, a hospital, or
the cemetery. For young Luis, living these experiences with his homies gave him a sense of
belonging. There s nothing more self fulfilling than thinking you re a part of something. It s even
better when all of your friends are involved as well. Getting accepted as one of the gang was great
for young Luis. His initiation was to fight 5 guys and stay standing by the end. This way of
initiation is mandatory for all those affiliated in it. They test your strength and loyalty to the gang

homies. Living illegal is what gangs do best. Sex, drugs and guns are daily exercises for these
individuals. This lifestyle gets you nowhere besides to the 3 places I explained earlier in my
introduction. For some this way of living is the ultimate way of living. Women, guns, and drugs are
the three things that bring men the most satisfaction. The question instead should be why one
shouldn t join a gang. Living like this has its benefits and downsides. For many, they re
overwhelmed in the moment that they can t realize the danger that is waiting for them. For most

Isolation In Death Of A Salesman Essay
In today s society, there is an abundance of ways to isolate one s self. Many do not realize the

  • 2. Tax Benefits Of The Tax Under the tax law, certain tax benefits can significantly reduce a taxpayer s regular tax amount. The alternative minimum tax (AMT) applies to taxpayers with high income by setting a limit on those benefits. It helps to ensure that those taxpayers pay at least a minimum amount of tax. The AMT is the excess of the tentative minimum taxover the regular tax. Therefore, the AMT is owed only if the tentative minimum tax is greater than the regular tax. The tentative minimum tax is figured separately from the regular tax. In general, compute the tentative minimum tax by: 1.Computing taxable income eliminating or reducing certain exclusions and deductions, and taking into account differences with respect to when certain items are taken into account in computing regular taxable income and alternative minimum taxable income (AMTI) 2.Subtracting the AMT exemption amount 3.Multiplying the amount computed in (2) by the appropriate AMT tax rates 4.Subtracting the AMT foreign tax credit (IRS.gov, 2016) (p. 1) The federal tax law sets the AMT exemption amounts and AMT tax rates. Taxpayers can use the special capital gain rates in effect for the regular tax if they are lower than the AMT tax rates that would otherwise apply. Some tax credits that reduce regular tax liability do not reduce AMT tax liability. If a taxpayer is not liable for AMT this year, but he or she paid AMT in one or more previous years, they may be eligible to take a special minimum tax credit against their ... • 3. Analysis Of The Book Marchers Of The Night Whats In The Night The retelling of spooky ghost stories has been a favorite activity in many cultures, wether it be around a campfire of written in various articles and book. Perhaps one of the most mysterious supernatural activities can be reported on the islands of Hawaii. Known as the Night Marchers, these spirits have been known to roam the land, revisiting ancient war sites and significant historical landmarks. In the book, Marchers of the Night by Helen P. Hoyt, a renowned Hawaiian author, he describes his first experience with the Huaka ipo, or the Night Marchers. In all the hundred years of my life I have seen the Marchers of the Night, the Huaka ipo, only twice... (Hoyt 1969). He then continues to explain how on the night of the sixth of August, 1918, a night sacred to Ku, ancient god of all warriors the Night Marchers, which their torches and pounding drums came to his house in the town of Waianae. Based on the many stories about the Night Marchers and the other cultures around the world who have similar spirits, I will attempt to demonstrate that these ghosts are more fact than fiction. Hawaiihas a rich background of folklores and mythology and it s link to the past in ever present. Stories of the Night Marchers were first written about in the late 1900 s but they were orally passed down long before that. Their native name is Huaka ipo, but was translated to english as the Night Marchers. The term derives from the two words, huaka i which means to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Multiculturalism In Canada Canada is routinely defined as the exemplar multicultural society with the most diverse cities in the world such as Vancouver, Toronto and Quebec. The concepts of integrity and complexity are being shaped in Canadian society because of its co existence of different cultures. Indeed, multiculturalism has been a keystone of Canadian policy for over 40 years with the aim of pursuing Canadian unity (Flegel 2002). Accordingly, Canadais generally estimated a country where people are all equal and where they can share fundamental values based upon freedom. Diversity is sustained and promoted by governmental policy, however, there are still racist interactions, which are destructive to minorities integration, especially recent ethnic groups arrival (Banting Kymlicka 2010). This paper will examine challenges that multiculturalismhas brought society and residents of Canada. There is a growing of ethnic groups from non European societies, who can meet Canadian economic development in term of their level of education, occupational skills and languages. Those ethnic groups are called immigrants because they are neither indigenous nor colonist settlers but are accepted through Canada s immigrationpolicy (Banting 2010). Even though diverse cultures and differences of minorities were recognized and celebrated within the bilingual framework during the multiculturalism policy of the 1970s, their full equal participations are still excluded from the mainstream society (Leung 2012). ... • 5. Muscle Soreness Essay Muscle Soreness Nearly anyone who works out regularly has experienced sore muscles after exercise. Sometimes you will feel it later that night, or the next morning and in some cases, you may actually think you are out of the woods, only to wake up two days later with stiff, tender muscles that feel as tight as rubber bands. For some people, sore muscles are a reward after a hard workout. In fact, some people are not happy unless they are sore after their workout, while others could live without it. Either way, all of us have probably experienced musclesoreness at one time or another. There are two types of exercise related muscle soreness. Immediate muscle soreness or acute muscle soreness quickly disperse and is the pain you feel... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Richard Weil, Med, CDE, the answer is swelling in the muscle compartment that result from an influx of white blood cells, which are anti inflammatory, and other nutrients and fluids that flow to the muscle to repair the damage after a tough workout. The type of muscle referred to is microscopic and is part of the normal process of growth in the body called anabolism. It is not the type of damage or injury that you see your doctor about. The swelling and inflammation can build up for days after a workout, and that is why muscle soreness may be worse two , three, or three or even four days after a workout for muscles to heal completely depending on the intensity of the workout. Muscle soreness can be prevented with some measure taken. Start exercise program slowly and exercise for a short time only. Increase your activity a little each day until personal goal is reach. Once an individual has experienced delayed muscle soreness at specific exercise intensity, he or she shouldn t encounter that sensation again until the intensity level is increased. This is because muscle soreness has been shown to produce a rapid adaptation response, which means that the muscles adapt to a given exercise intensity level. Unless the exercise intensity level is changed, soreness will not occur. Base on how much intensity level as individual increase the recommended approach to preventing delayed muscle soreness are as follows; gradual progression and conservative increases in ... Observe a Sixth Grade English Class at Bain Middle School I observe at Roosevelt Middle School, which is in River Forest, in Mrs. Braun s sixth grade English class on Tuesdays in the morning. As I have observed, I have noticed that the classroom is student centered. During computer time, Mrs. Braun focused more on helping the students get into the computer program to start the assignment than on having enough time to get the assignment done. Several times, Mrs. Braun gave helpful comments on how to do things on the computer or in the program, such as how to install automatic spell check. Braun, and then vocabulary is covered. Then a vocabulary assignment is given with any other new assignments on what is being cover in class. Next the teacher reads or goes over any assigned readings from the book that is being covered in class. This is the same basic routine for period two. The third period is computer time and the routine seems to vary. There is a quick transition from activity to activity during these routines. The classroom environment is that of a basic classroom setting. There are some decorations and other things hanging on the wall. Among the decorations is a hand made calendar on the wall by Mrs. Braun s desk. There is a history of each student s last name on the wall on the other side of Mrs. Braun s desk. There seems to be a controlled temperature and lighting in the classroom and they are set at an adequate setting. The room is arranged with five groups of desks in a circular type shape. In the middle of the room is a cart where new assignments are put and reading journals are kept. There are different locations throughout the room for different supplies. With the layout of the room, it seems there is adequate space to move around and do in class activities. The physical space also seems conducive to teaching and learning. • 7. Egoism And Egoism In Peter Parker s Spider Man The stimulus that I have chosen for this internal assessment is a scene from the movie, Spider Man 2. Peter Parker struggles to find a balance between his Spider man life and his life as a citizen; his grades are steadily declining at university, he gets fired from his job and cannot find any time for his friends. In the scene that I selected, Parker realizes that he has a choice, that there are no obligations for him to climb walls and fight crime for a safer environment. He then decides to throw his Spider Mancostume in a bin and forget about his super hero life, in order to focus on his own life. As a result, his life as an individual is thriving, his grades at university are getting better, and he doesn t have to fight crime anymore, which offers him more time for his beloved ones and personal ambitions. 150 words Should an individual act for his own benefit? Or should he act for the sake of others? In ethics it is assumed that right actions demand an individual to act for the sake of others, this concept is known as altruism. However this view is challenged by the concept of egoism: the idea of putting our own interests to benefit ourselves before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is clear that an unjust man who has possession of the ring would act egoistically. But what about the righteous man? Since he would not have any consequences for what he does, he does not feel fear, in that case why would he act altruistically? According to Glaucon, he would not act altruistically, as there are no consequences to his actions. I personally think that it depends on a lot of factors and the person himself. For example a priest that has acted altruistically throughout his life will probably act altruistically even while he possesses the ring of Gyges. He probably does not want to act egoistically and the way he was brought up and educated will influences the ethics of choices he will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. White Girl Sisterhood In her book, Black Feminism Thought Knowledge, Consciousness, and the Politics of Empowerment, Patricia Hill Collins addresses the above topic of black female sisterhood and solidarity by confirming that This relationship of sisterhood among black women can be seen as a model for a series of relationships African American women have with one another (260). That is to say, this relationship between black women is seen as a usual one since they have always been fighting the stereotypical images drawn on the black female body. Actually, by placing the white girl in this context of black female sisterhood, Kidd manages to create new racial and cultural spaces that lead to the women s healing. This is demonstrated at the end of Kidd s novel,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lily has finally forgotten her bleak past. She decides to move forward towards a brilliant future accompanied with the black women. Rosaleen s healing is due to the presence of the Calendar Sisters; she is freed from the pain and racial discrimination in the white society. She finally sees herself mirrored through these black women who embrace her and welcome her as their true sister. Rosaleen s empowerment is achieved through her deepest willingness to change her life. Collins states that Black women may assist a black woman in this journey toward personal empowerment but the ultimate responsibility for self definition and self valuation lies within the individual woman herself (195). Previously, she is beaten because of her strong will to change her situation in her quest for the right to vote. Drosophila Melanogaster Drosophila melanogaster Sex linkage and inheritance of genes through cross breeding Abstract This experiment looks at the relationship between genes, generations of a population and if genes are carried from one generation to another. By studying Drosophila melanogaster, starting with a parent group we crossed a variety of flies and observe the characteristics of the F1 generation. We then concluded that sex linked genes and autosomal genes could indeed be traced through from the parent generation to the F1 generation. Introduction Sex linkage and inherited genes allow us to predict and understand how and why certain animals and plants inherit features from their parents while some don t. The vial was then labeled accordingly with the type of cross (Male Vg, Female W) and the date. The date is important as the Drosophila complete a life cycle within approximately 2 weeks from the mating day. This vial became known as the parent generation or (P). The vial was then kept in a moderate temperature out of the sun and by the end of the first week the parent generation had laid eggs, hatched and the next generation were between the larva stage and the pupa stage. At this point, the parent generations was no longer required and were decanted out into ethyl alcohol, killed and disposed of. They did not need to be scored (inspected) as we already knew what they were. We then kept the vial with the juvenile Drosophila for another 2 weeks in the same conditions as above and found that the F1 generation had hatched and laid eggs of their own. We then decanted the F1 generation into alcohol to kill them and kept them aside to score. The vial containing the new generation F2 of Drosophila was then kept for use in a further experiment. The F1 generation that we had just decanted was then moved to a dissecting microscope for scoring, this generation included 20 Drosophila flies that we could then inspect for different traits using the microscope (traits being the sex of ... Marked Woman Deborah Tannen Summary Marked Women In Deborah Tannen s article There is No Unmarked Woman she focuses on how women are being misconceived and prejudged on solely the way they re dressed. The main point in the article is that there is no such thing as an unmarked woman men have the option and women simply do not. To be marked in the way Tannen states it is changing the meaning of a word by simply adding a participle, but that participle has no meaning on its own. Deborah Tannen points out that even in the English language marked is a staple of linguistic theory. By simply adding a linguistic participle to a word that already has no meaning by itself can change the meaning of a word. As Tannen states in her article that women must make a decision on how they wish to appear on a day to day basis through their makeup, hair style, shoes, clothes, etc. When women are choosing how to appear everyday they re trying to escape the preconceptions that men never really have to face due to more narrow decisions. HageКјs unpicking of the subtly racist differentiations of white liberalism has many applications. Being Pakeha is itself a privileging position, a frankly indigenizing claim, nowhere more clearly demonstrated than in the popular and influential memoir texts of New Zealand historian Michael King, Being Pakeha (1985), Pakeha: The quest for identity in New Zealand (1991) and Being Pakeha Now (2004). When King died in 2004, there was a lot of comment about the untimeliness of his accidental death, not only that he seemed too young but New Zealand Prime Minister at the time, Helen Clark said that he was a voice of reason and enlightenment on New Zealand race relations (Adams, 2004, para. 8). King s influential book, Being Pakeha Now (2004) is a warm and modest account of an exceptional life story. Overall, the individual will make a decision based on what is thought to be good by God despite not establishing what is wrong or right, as mentioned by Plato, making it debatable (Vaughn 17). Since divine theorists view the Ten Commandments as God s morals codes, it is suggested by such theorist that by choosing to leave a great amount of the individuals behind, it is immoral; God says individuals shall help their neighbor. With this information, there comes a time in which God, himself, has to make these types of decisions, and by believing in him, a divine theorist will unfortunately sacrifice some people, but not without saving as many people as they possibly can. While doing what is thought to be right by God, they will, nonetheless, leave individuals behind and essentially, commit murder, which can be seen as a controversial dilemma. Handoff schemes based on Prioritization: 1.1 Non Prioritization schemes: This Scheme [16] has been employed by the typical radio technologies proposed for the Personal Communication Systems (PCS) operating at the band of 2 GHz. This scheme does not differentiate handoff and initial (new or originating) request calls. As long as, there is a channel available in the cell, either an originating or a handoff call request will be served. If there are not any free channels, the request is blocked immediately. Advantage: The channel allocation is relatively easy. The Loudness button on consumer stereo receivers is an equalization circuit that boosts the highs and lows as the volume is lowered so the music will sound the same whether soft or loud. Noise shaping circuits filter dither and quantization noise into the extreme upper range, where we will simply notice it less. To describe the concept of equal loudness regardless of frequency, the unit phon was developed. Each curve of the equal loudness contours defines a single phon level. For example, the curve that is 40 dB SPL at 1 kHz is defined as 40 phons; 40 phons at 10 kHz is therefore approximately 50 dB SPL and at 100 Hz slightly more than 60 dB SPL. Phons and decibels SPL are the same for a 1 kHz tone an increase of 10 phons is equal to an increase of 10 dB at 1 kHz, but it may be more or less at other frequencies. Many audio measurements are made using weighting curves that attempt to skew the results in favor of the way we actually hear. For example, the signal to noise ratio of a microphone preamp might be listed as 108 dB A weighted, or sometimes just 108 dB(A). This means that the noise was filtered before measurement to exclude the extreme lows and highs to approximately the same degree our ears do at 40 phons. Through the analysis of ice cores, tree rings, glacier lengths, pollen remains and ocean sediments (EPA, 2016), scientists have been able to piece together the Earth s climate for roughly the last million years (some claim several millions of years). Through this research and the study of historic environmental events, it has been determined that the Earths climate changes from warmer to cooler over thousands of years due to natural reasons such as changes in solar energy, volcanic eruptions, and natural changes in the emission of greenhouse gases (EPA, 2016). • 29. The Emancipation Proclamation Book Review Essay The Emancipation Proclamation. John Hope Franklin. Wheeling, Illinois: Harlan Davidson, 1963, 1965, 1995. 155 pp. In the book The Emancipation Proclamation, the author John Hope Franklin, tells a story of the emancipation of slaves through the trials of then, President Abraham Lincoln. He leads us through the action before, during, and after the issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation in an attempt to give us a greater understanding of the actions taken by President Lincoln. In the years prior to 1862 and 1863, many people were calling on President Lincoln for the emancipation of the slaves. Many felt that slavery would be the evil that would bring the country down. But at that time Lincoln didn t think it wise to emancipate them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Others doubted that it was even legal. But as Union victories fell into place a vast majority of people came to support the proclamation. Actually, the proclamation freed no slaves. It applied only to Confederate territory, where federal officers could not enforce it. The proclamation did not affect slavery in the loyal Border States. Lincoln repeatedly urged those states to free their slaves, and to pay the owners for their loss. He promised financial help from the federal government for this purpose. The failure of the states to follow his advice was one of his great disappointments. The Emancipation Proclamation did have a great long range effect. It gave a new character to the war. It gave the North a new weapon in Negro soldiers. Also in the North, it gave a high moral purpose to the struggle and paved the way for the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution. This amendment, adopted in December 1865, ended slavery in all parts of the United States. Overall I found the book to be well written and very informative. It gave an accurate account of the time during the Emancipation Proclamation. John Hope Franklin used his sources to paint a vivid picture of a time of great change. While many historians have dealt with the Emancipation Proclamation as a phase or an aspect of the Civil War, few have given more than little attention to the evolution of the document in the mind of Lincoln, the circumstances and conditions that led to its ... • 35. The Popularity Of Characteristics In Mary Rowlandson s... Captivity narratives are so popular because people find it more interesting to read something that is written in first person. Not only is it important that the narrative is in first person, but the writer is also describing all the events that occurred during their time in captivity, which is very emotional and people enjoy reading things because of that emotional appeal. Captivity is not something that most people want to experience, but people want to read about it so that they have a better understanding of what happens to these victims and even be able to sympathize for them, and maybe provide support for others who have recently been in captivity. I think that most people have a big enough heart to where if they read a captivity narrative, they would feel sympathy towards all people who have been victims of captivity. Most importantly, I believe that captivity narratives are popular and appealing to the reader because throughout the narrative it shows how the victimdealt with the situation, and how they were able to survive captivity until they were found. In Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative, all of these things are expressed, and she discusses her entire journey through captivity. One of the main things to take away from this narrative is the amount of faith that is portrayed throughout all the difficult times. Anyone who were to read this captivity narrative would recognize how important Rowlandson s faith was to her and her family; even though the Indians did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Military Decision Making Process Essay The Military Decision Making Process (MDMP) is an analytical and deliberate process that commanders follow using seven steps that includes the receipt of the mission, mission analysis, course of action development, course of action analysis, course of action comparison, course of action approval and orders production. The MDMP gives leaders a thorough process to follow that provides clarity and synchronization for operations even under time constrained environments. We need an Army that is trained on making decisions, able to anticipate needs and able to be proactive in accomplishing tasks even when unexpected duties arise. The MDMP sets the Army up for success in getting to this point. Without the MDMP, leaders will struggle to make crucial decisions and they will certainly struggle to make them under pressure during time sensitive missions. Not just our own history but the history of other countries has shown that running military operations without planning properly can result in inconceivable losses. However, once Coleridge teaches his character the lesson of the inherent beauty in nature, the Mariner learns that all creatures are beautiful. In Shelley s piece, which also has this theme, it seems that Frankenstein really never learns this lesson, while the creature does seem to grasp this concept. I beheld those I loved spend vain sorrow upon the graves of William and Justine, the first hapless victims to my unhallowed arts (Shelley 79). When he made this creature, there is no way that he thought he would kill two of his closest loved ones, and later kill more. However, it happened and Shelley is showing us how devastating the effects can be. Similarly, in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, The Mariner also suffers for a single, unthinking act. • 48. Radbruch Stalegary Lawlessness And Supra-Statutory Law In Statutory Lawlessness and Supra Statutory Law Gustav Radbruch talks about the Radbruch Formula that states extreme injustice is no law. (p.126) Radbruch is against positive law because in a situation of conflict between legal certainty and justice, positive law takes precedence even when the content is unjust and fails to benefit the people. (p.132) This is one of the main reasons why Radbruch criticizes positive law, it fails to create justice for the people. Another reason is that according to Radbruch, positive law is incapable of establishing validity of the statutes. Legal validity states that for a law to be valid, it must be given a rule of recognition, which the officials, the society and its members must accept. Members should have the ability to change the laws that govern them and since the positive law does not allow this, certain members of the society are subject to unjust laws, and they cannot do anything about it. For Radbruch, the idea of law comprises of three things; the purpose of the law in serving the public benefit, justice, and legal certainty. Out of these three, Radbruch emphasized that legal certainty has the most importance. Legal certainty is a characteristic of positive law, which means that the legislature enacts the statute. It ensures consistency in the interpretation of law from time to time and supports the notion that any statute is better than no statue. Legal certainty is required for public benefit and for justice. Therefore, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I do believe that some individuals may be in need of prescriptions that control things like dopamine levels; however, by stripping away all processed foods and going organic when available, I think studies would prove a decrease in ADHD and also things like Autism. Society should demand a higher quality of chemical free food produced by farmers and higher quality control before going to market.
