Managed Care Through The Delivery Of Health Care
Managed care integrates the delivery of health care and financing of health care. In managed care,
insurance companies controls the cost, quality, and access of medical care to beneficiaries by
limiting the reimbursement levels paid to providers,, by reducing utilization, or both (Beik, 2014,
p. 116). There are different types of managed care. Some of the most common types of managed
care are Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) and Health Maintenance Organizations. Managed
care programs uses different interventions such as economic incentives for doctors and patients,
increased cost sharing, controls on inpatient admission and length of stays, and so forth (Deom,
Agoritsas, Bovier, Perneger, 2010, p. 1). On the other hand, managed care tools such as gate
keeping, health care networks, second opinion requirement, and pre approval requirement for
expensive treatments or hospitalization has changed healthcare delivery on both the macro and
micro levels. On the micro level, it greatly impacts the quality of care, cost, autonomy, and
relations with patients. According to the research study, managed care greatly affects physicians. It
reduces career satisfaction through its impact on doctors autonomy and the pressure caused by
managed care may affect the doctor s ability to provide high quality of medical care. (Deom,
Agoritsas, Bovier, Perneger, 2010, p. 7). Like for example, managed care contracting has a positive
and negative impact on physicians and patients. The

Critical Thinkers
The intellectual purpose of education is to develop knowledgeable and informed critical thinkers
(POE). The information presented will build the cognitive foundations for the students to work
with. To develop as critical thinkers, students need to be shown how to take the literacy and
numeracy information presented and use it to perform higher order thinking. Higher order thinking
includes, but is not limited to: divergent thinking, problem solving, decision making, and synthesis.
In addition to this knowledge, students need help to develop the skills (knows how) and

equations balanced. The classroom should be arranged in such a way that encourages interaction

group projects and encourage students to help each other. Class rules should be clear and concise so
that control of the classroom is not lost and the teachers should let the students know when it is

solving problems should go a long way in maintaining control of the classroom. Every classroom

Reproductive Rights Of Men And Women
One of the most controversial topics being discussed in today s society is the concept of
reproductive rights. According to the Salem Press Encyclopedia, reproductive rights provide
individuals with the freedom to make sexual and reproductive decisions (Caffrey, 2014).
Reproductive rights provide both men and women the opportunity to seek reproductive healthcare
and education. Additionally, these rights are designed to provide individuals and couples with the
opportunity to decide whether or not they would like to have children throughout their lives. Some
services available to these individuals are the right to birth control and other contraceptive options,
abortion, sexually transmitted disease testing, and much more. Although reproductive rightsdo aide
to include the rights of men and women, this paper will focus specifically on the reproductive
rights of girls and women. Studies show there is an importance around the idea of girls and women
being able to have control of their own bodies.
Why Are Reproductive Rights Important? In general, reproductive rights are important to the
individual as well as to our society. Reproductive rights are important because they promote a
sense of equality and personal freedom. They provide individuals with right to a safe,
responsible, and satisfying sex life. A key aspect of reproductive rights is that they allow a person
to choose if and when they are going to have children. They also provide access to education,

As all the envelopes were sealed, keeping in mind the safety of the customer, so I basically used to

Erik Erikson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development Essay
Erik Erikson was born in Greman in 1902 1994, American psychoanalyst; known for
psychosocial theory of emotional development of human beings. His theory looks at the impact
of parents and society on personality development from childhood to adulthood. Erikson
believes, each person has to pass through a series of eight stages over there entire life cycle. I
will look at the first 3 stages that cover the childhood years. There are set of conflict at each stage,
which allows individual to develop each stage successfully. Each conflict can be handled in a
proper means or inproper means that can prevent progression for the indivdual to the next stage of
there development.
Erik Erikson (1950, 1963) proposed a psychoanalytic theory of psychosocial development
comprising eight stages from infancy to adulthood. During each stage, the person experiences a
psychosocial crisis which could have a positive or negative outcome for personality He s ideas
were greatly influenced by development Frued. Freud s theory regarding the structure and detail
map of personality. Erikson was an ego psychologist. He emphasized the role of culture and society
and the conflicts that can take place within the ego itself, whereas Freud emphasized the conflict

King Pellinore In The Once And Future King
Only a Pellinore can catch it that is, of course, or his next of kin. Train all the Pellinores with
that idea in mind. Limited eddication, rather. Fewmets, and all that (White 23). King Pellinore
is a minor character with some major roles in T.H. White s The Once and Future King. King
Pellinore shows many different personality traits in the novel. King Pellinore is comical,
virtuous, and dedicated. To begin with, King Pellinore is comical in The Once and Future King.
King Pellinore s comical side is displayed widely throughout the novel. King Pellinore s
appearance is shown as a comical one. When Pellinore lifted up his visor, it revealed, two
enormous eyes frosted like ice (White 22). These eyes turned out to be spectacles that were,
fogged by being inside the helmet (White 22). King Pellinore s appearance was further
established as comical when his helmet s visor continuously kept closing. King Pellinore is also
shown as comical through his clumsiness. When Wart first meets Pellinore, Pellinore nearly falls
off his horse. He also dropped his lance and his spectacles. As he bends over to get his items, his
visor continues to shut. This adds to King Pellinore s comical characteristic. Additionally, King

Differences Between Animal Farm And The Truman Show
Living a good life and trying to pursue the unattainable utopian society takes power, but not
everyone has the power to make these things reality. The good life and the utopian society will stay
elusive unless one has the ambition to want to thrive and fight for power and control over their own
life. The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, conveys the idea that everyone has a different
perspective as to what the good life and utopiais so, in order to obtain it, Truman must fight for the
power and freedom to control his own life. Likewise, in Animal Farm, George Orwell explores
how the animals believe that to be able to obtain the unreachable utopian society and good life
they must first have power and control over their own lives. To do so they must get rid of Mr
Jones, but they soon grow to realise that even once you have power and control, too much power
can easily be abused.
A good life is a term for the life that one would like to live. It s a life in which one has the
freedom to self direct their own life. Truman has the perfect wife, the perfect house, perfect job
and perfect friends but does that really matter if he doesn t have freedom? In The Truman Show,
Weir expresses that without freedom the good life is unattainable, one can never truly be happy
and content with their life unless they have freedom. We see this most clearly when Truman is so
determined to Thrive in life and escape from the dome that the good life Christof has endowed for
him doesn t matter.

In the beginning of Little Miss Sunshine, the family faces the issue of not agreeing on a plan for
their trip to Olive s pageant. This is because Richard doubts the journey by asking How re you
gonna get down there (Arndt 22). This brings a faulty start in the initiation of the journey since
the hero archetype character is hesitant in continuing his quest. It is the same when Jewel, the
hero in As I Lay Dying, is unsure of the situation with Addie s death. Little Miss Sunshine also
introduces a minor conflict that is within a character. Specifically, this issue in the characteristics
of one the archetypal character is the ignorance of both Richard and Jewel. Richard is obsessed
with his nine steps to success, so he is blinded by his motto Winners see what they want, they go
out and they get it (Arndt 2). However, it is ironic because Richard hides his failures through
excuses, through his ignorance and inability to accept reality. This can be interpreted as a similar
conflict in that Jewel is blinded by his love for his horse Both heroes struggle with their own inner
conflicts, yet in the end they manage to overcome these minor obstacles in themselves. This allows

Technology Is Too Invasive, Lacks Transparency, And Must...
As with any advancement, the rise of technology has its drawbacks. The internet has allowed the
creation of an industry based solely in gathering and selling mass amounts of user data. This data
collection is meant to improve and personalize a user s experience. But the amount of data
collected far exceeds the amount needed to accomplish this. And despite the size and pervasive
nature of the industry, the general public knows very little about what they do. Data collection
online is too invasive, lacks transparency, and must be restricted. For starters, the sheer amount of
data collected is absurd. Some of it is expected, such as names, email addresses, crash reports, and
other basic pieces of information. But many companies also drew from unexpected sources. Google
collects data from search queries, time and date of phone calls, length of phone calls, and even
data on a user s precise location (Google). And while a user may expect that Facebook collects
data from everything they post, they may be surprised to learn that Facebook also collects data
on a user from posts by other people. Facebook will even collect information on web activity
outside of Facebook via third party partners (Facebook). And they re hardly the only companies to
do this. In fact, there are companies that exist solely for this purpose. They are known as data
brokers , and they gather much of their information online. When the Federal Trade Commissiondid

Basal Metabolic Rate Research Paper
If you are interested in losing weight, knowing your basal metabolic rate is a good place to start.
Basal Metabolic Rate, or BMR, is the minimum calorific requirement that a resting person needs
in order to sustain life. Or, it is the rate at which the body burns calories. In other words, it is the
amount of energy which is measured in calories that is expended by the body if a person was in
a state of rest. In humans, it is measured by the heat produced per unit time and is expressed as
the calories released per kilogram of body weight or per square meter of body surface per hour. If
you are considering losing weight and keeping it off, you should know your metabolic rate.
Basal Metabolic Rate and Losing Weight
Metabolic Rate refers to how many calories you need to maintain your current weight. BMR is
said to account for 50 to 75 percent of one s daily calorie expenditure. When you calculate your
BMR, you can determine the caloric intake that is needed for weight loss. The measurement of your

The Selection System Of A Multiphasic Hurdle Approach Essay
In the selection system, a multiphasic hurdle approach will be used, meaning that individuals must
meet minimal standards from the current stage before being moved on to the next. As mentioned
previously, the initial assessment will involve having applicants fill out an application blank.
This application will then be scored according to our minimal standards, ensuring that applicants
meet the minimum age requirement and that they are authorized to work in the United States.
Therefore, the process will essentially require those two things, and the rest of the applicants
will be passed along to the next stage. As a result of the requirements, we do not expect this
assessment to have an adverse impact. Candidate reactions will likely be at least moderately
positive, as it will involve little effort on their part, and will provide necessary information to
move forward in the employment process. However, these applications may take significant
amounts of time to process, so we will be using an online application that will allow us to receive
our data and easily sort out those who do not meet minimum requirements, saving time and money.
Work experience will be scored, but not used to determine whether or not applicants make it over
the first hurdle. This information will only be used in the final decision. Work experience will be
placed in three distinct categories: no relevant experience, minimal relevant experience (0 3
months), and substantial relevant experience (3 months or

The Early History Of Islam
THE EARLY HISTORY OF ISLAM
Lily Grote
HUM 2020: Introduction to the Humanities
December 1st, 2015
The history of the Islamic religion begins in 610 C.E., with Muhammad ibn Abdallah, a merchant
who every year during the month of Ramadan would retire to a cave on the summit of Mount Hira,
just outside Mecca in the Arabian Hijaz, where he prayed, fasted and gave alms to the poor. This
was a common practice for many Arabs in the peninsula. Muhammad was a merchant, a member of
the tribe Quraysh which had become quite wealthy trading among bordering countries. The
Quraysh were focused on accumulating more wealth but at the expense of the tribe s poorer family
groups, known as clans.
A spiritual restlessness had become apparent among many of the Arab countries, as they knew
that Judaism and Christianity were more refined than the Arab s own pagan customs. Many
Arabs began to believe that they were left out by al Lah (the High God of their pantheon, literally
meaning the God ) because they were not sent a prophet or scripture such as Jesus, the Bible, or
the Torah in that of the Christian and Jewish religions. Muhammad himself had most likely never
heard of the Christian prophets. Oftentimes, the Jews and followers of Christ taunted the Arabs for
not being a part of the divine plan. On the 17th day of Ramadan, 610 C.E., Muhammad awoke
from his slumber by an overpowering presence that squeezed him so tightly that the word of a new
Arab scripture fell from his

Ark Of The Covenant Theme
The type of theme this film followed was focus on plot. The movie was constantly using action
scenes to keep the audience interested. For example Indiana Jones often did impossible things
to complete his mission. Such as in the beginning of the film he was able to escape a booby
trapped temple and not get killed by native tribesman. He is also able to survive a pit of snakes
and not get killed by the ark. Those actions would have killed anyone else but Jones. He also went
to distant regions of the world. He went to the jungles of South America, mountainous Nepal and
ended up in the deserts of Egypt. The filmdid occasionally mention Jones s past but that wasn t very
often. It was mainly focused on finding and getting the Ark of the Covenant.

Water Quality and Contamination Essay
Water Quality and Contamination
Water Quality and Contamination
Introduction
Abstract My lab report was based on how ground water could be affected by contaminants that
surround us everyday. Access to safe drinking water depends not only on the quality of water at
source but also on contamination throughout it s way to the user and practices related to
purification and sanitation ( Mishra, S., Nandeshwar, S. 2013).I was very surprised that the
detergent contaminated the water. I thought that the detergent would stay in the soil but it ended up
going through the soil into the water. Which then left the water bubbly and dark. These labs may

of bleach to the filtered water and slowly stirred the combination for 1 minute. The third
experiment I did was to see the quality of tap water, Dasani water and Fuji water. I first labeled
250ml beakers Tap, Dasani and Fuji. I then poured 100ml of each water type into there specific
beaker. The first strip test I did was the ammonia test. I placed the strip in each of the 3 beakers

`` Weapons, Technology Determination And Ancient Warfare ``
Technological Determination and Hoplites
Logically, it makes sense that the army with the most advanced technology would win battles
against a less equipped one. However, in his paper titled Weapons, Technology Determination and
Ancient Warfare, Fernando Echeverria Rey brings to light the paradox of this idea in ancient
warfare, as well as undermine the modern idea of technological determinism by claiming that it
does not have an ancient equivalent. His argument approaches the study of ancient warfare from
different perspectives as he [offers] alternative ways to explain technological and tactical change in
warfare (Echeverria 2010: 24). Echeverria Rey makes strong points for his arguments and supports

military factors (Echeverria 2010:22) and that these military factors produce and explain broader

his paper, Echeverria Rey stresses the distinction between these three levels and maintains clarity in
his argument. He supports his argument by also putting to the test the assumptions, that first some
kinds of weapons and tactics are objectively superior to others and that secondly, societies are
always trying to create or import such superior weapons and tactics (Echeverria 2010:24.) While
hoplites may not be the epidemy of ancient warfare technological innovation, they are an important
part of the history of ancient warfare and exemplify Echeverria Rey s argument.
A hoplite is commonly interpreted as the quintessential Greek heavy armed infantry man

own arms and armor (Bertosa 2003:361). Because of the monetary demand of being a hoplite
soldier, a hoplite had to provide their own equipment such as a spears or shields, the majority of
early hoplites were wealthy farm owners whose main goal was to protect their own land from
enemies. The role of a hoplite was critical in ancient civilization

London is iconic for many things Big Ben, red telephone booths, double decker buses, and
Tower Bridge. Built in 1884, Tower Bridge a staple of London. Pryor to the building of Tower
Bridge, London Bridge was the only way to cross the Thames river. By the nineteenth century,
the population of London had grown much too large for one bridge, however there was a
challenge as to how to build the bridge without disrupting river traffic. In 1876 a Special Bridge
Committee was formed to oversee the designing and building of the bridge. The committee
decided to open the designing up for public competition. Over fifty designs were submitted and
the committee filtered through them until they discovered one that they liked. The chosen
design was created by Horace Jones, the city architect, and John Wolfe Barry ( Bridge History ).
Construction began in October of 1884. Two gigantic piers were driven into the river bed to
support the eleven thousand tons of steel and granite that were used to construct Tower Bridge.
The project took eight years, five contractors, and over four hundred thirty construction workers
every day to complete. When it was first completed, Tower Bridge was the most largest and most
complex bascule bridge ever built. The large bascules were raised and lowered by large hydraulic
cylinders that were powered by massive steam engines and boilers. The bridge remained this way
until 1976 when it was updated to be ran with oil and electricity ( History of Tower Bridge ).

Protest Songs And Its Effect On Social Change
For many centuries, music has been an unwavering force in society, offering entertainment for
various ceremonies and events, while also providing an outlet for creative expression. Most people
see the entertainment factor in music, but fail to realize the power music has to influence social
change. One way that music inspires social change is through protest songs. Most songwriters
agree that protest songs are written because circumstances demand engagement and things can no
longer be left unsaid (Haslam). Protest songs have been prominent for centuries in the United States
, but one decade that they are closely associated with is the 1960s. This was a time when
America was faced with much controversy and division. The protest music performed by folk
artist and social activist Peter Seeger empowered oppressed individuals during the 1960s to stand
against social norms by acknowledging social issues in society, advocating his personal beliefs,
and convincing his audience that it was acceptable to have varying opinions. The 1960s were a
time in history in which the United States was filled with much disillusionment; however, the
1960s were a time of hope. It was a decade unlike any other, where everyday individuals thought
they could change the world and were willing to put themselves in physical danger to see that
change happen (Cassity 13). The 1960s offered disposition for multiple scenarios Civil Rights,

What [is scene] in the cemetery are the last vestiges of a great American tragedy (Roberts xi).
This cemetery is one massive grave, were the remains of nearly 13,000 Union prisoners of war who
died of disease and starvation between February 1864 and May 1865. This is Andersonville.
No person who comes to Andersonville can leave without profound soul searching. Moral, ethical
and factual questions come to mind. How could something as horrible as this happen? Who was
responsible? Have the guilty been punished (Roberts xii)? History books forget Andersonville, the
American people want to forget Andersonville, and the government denies Andersonville, yet when
an event is that horrific no one can forget or deny it. As much as America wants to forget what
happened at Andersonville, they will never be able to, for the ghosts of Andersonville are all around.
When something this awful happens, there is a need to find a villain. There is the need to place the
blame on the person whom society feels is responsible for the heinous acts. [Society] must be
assured that the terrible events that happened at Andersonville were the work of one lone madman,
who was adequately punished for his crime (Roberts xii). This punishment assures society that there
is nothing wrong with the United States history, that there is nothing to hide. By punishing the

Performance Enhancing Drugs And Supplements Plague The...
Historical National Football League coach and manager Vince Lombardi once said, Winning isn t
everything but wanting to win is . The want to win, is real; it is embodied by the usage of
performance enhancing drugs. Blood doping increases the count of red blood cells in the body,
anabolic steroids accelerate the growth of muscle and strengthen the bones, and stimulants increase
alertness, competitiveness, aggressiveness and reduce fatigue. All of these materials have clear
benefits but the health implications are still very present. Many cases of injury from these
substances have consequences as serious as death. Athletes worldwide put their bodies and health at
risk due to the usage of performance enhancing drugs and methods such as blooddoping, steroids,
and injections. But in retrospect, it harms a lot more than just an athlete s body; in fact,
performance enhancing drugs and supplements plague the athletic playing field worldwide, which
leads to social unrest, health issues, and even political issues.
It is the job of the red blood cell to transport oxygen to muscles. Increased red blood cell counts
benefit the athlete in a number of ways. However, due to controversial methods of execution such
as: blood transfusions, consuming erythropoietin (EPO), and injecting synthetic oxygen carriers,
the risks far outweigh the benefits. When transfused, a high amount of blood is present within the
body, increasing stress on the heart immensely leading to stroke or a heart

Analysis Of The Globe And Mail Written By Antonia Maioni
It should come as no surprise that Quebec s history is distinct and as a result, has transformed the
province into a distinct region within Canada. Canada s fГЄte without Quebec, an article in The
Globe and Mail written by Antonia Maioni, illustrates the division between Quebec and the rest of
Canada especially on CanadaDay. Maioni discusses the importance of July 1st for Quebeckers as
the fГЄte de dГ©mГ©nagement, when rental leases often change hands in the province, and not
the celebration of Canada. She notes that for francophone Quebeckers, Canada Day is nothing
short of the ordinary since their lives do not revolve around being patriotic flag wavers (Maioni).
This deep seated resentment remains over Confederation and what is seen as a less then perfect
deal stuck in order to unite what Canadians know today to be Canada. With 2014 being historically
significant in marking the 150th anniversary of both the Charlottetown and Quebecconferences, the
gathering in Quebec has been largely omitted. Maioni argues that it is the Quebec conference that
should merit some reflection since that is where the constitutional framework was established.
Unlike in Charlottetown, which become a commemorative cottage industry as a result of central
Canadians intervening on what was once supposed to be a Maritime union (Maioni). This paper
will discuss how Quebec s relationship to Canada is framed in the media and how it affects
regional experience as a result.

Eric Schlosser s Fast Food Nation Exposes the High Cost of...
Many feel that the fast food industry is providing a valuable service by catering to consumer
needs; that it is inexpensive and easily accessible. For people who don t have time to prepare
meals, for households in which both parents work, there s no question it provides a service. But
what is the true cost of this convenience? In the book, Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser reveals
that the cost is the lives of the people who work in the meat processing plants. Meat packingis now
the most dangerous job in the United States.
The men and women who work in the slaughterhouses are often low paid, poor immigrants, who
have not completely learned English and are practically illiterate. These workers make a knife cut
every two or three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This manner that runs the lives of slaughterhouse workers is completely unethical. In any business,
stopping an employee from receiving due compensation for injuries is unfair and unethical. It
seems like that in any other business, if a worker is injured, and does not receive fair
compensation, they have the ability and drive to enforce the law; but in the case of the
slaughterhouse workers, that are often illiterate, this rarely happens.
The fast food industry both feeds and prays off the young. Pioneers in developing marketing
strategies to target children, the fast food chains have even infiltrated the nation s schools through
lunchroom franchises and special advertising packages that answer public education s need for
funds; in every way possible, giving the children a loyal friend to rely on. In many franchises,
teenagers are perfect candidates for low paying, low skilled, short term jobs and constitute a large
part of the fast food chains workforce; and often practically run individual locations, having more
responsibility than most adults.
The intense advertising and responsibilities is not the only thing we saw in Fast Food Nation that
effected children. The quality of the meat that is fed to children in school and at the fast food
restaurants is in some cases horrendous. Children are not the only age group that eats this tainted
food, but they are more greatly

Presidents Of The United States
There have been forty four Presidents of the United States and most people can only name a
few. One of the lesser known presidents is known as John Quincy Adams who was President
from March 4, 1825 to March 4, 1829. His fame may have been enriched by the fact that he was
the first son of a president to become president. Quincy as he was called to avoid any confusion
with his father John Adams, was one of the most qualified people to ever be elected into the White
House. His six years (one term) in office saw both success and failure. John Quincy Adamsas
Secretary of State had quite a few successes, but also had several failures as President; however,
his Presidency led to the most successful post Presidency in the history of the United States.
Quincy was the second eldest child in the Quincy household and was the oldest son of John and
Abigail Adams, born on July 11, 1767 in Braintree, today known as Quincy, Massachusetts. When
John Quincy Adams was a young man he seemed to spend most of his time accompanying his
father everywhere he went, which included traveling overseas. Adams even accompanied his father
through his mission through Europe for most of his teenage years. During the time Quincy was in
Europe he had learned and become fluent in several different languages. He wasn t around often

Employee Rights For Pregnant Women
Employee rights are some of the most controversial topics among healthcare right now. Institutions
that provide employment to citizens must now abide by relatively intense discrimination laws that
seek to prevent discrimination of prospective employees based on race, sex, religion, national

States that supported the right for people to define and express their identity, implemented a law

Hydrogen as an Alternative Fuel
What is Hydrogen?
The simplest and lightest fuel is hydrogen gas (H2). Hydrogen is in a gaseous state at atmospheric
pressure and ambient temperatures. Hydrogen is being explored for use in combustion engines and
fuel cell electric vehicles. On a volumetric basis, the energy density of hydrogen is very low under
ambient conditions. This presents greater transportation and storage hurdles than for liquid fuels.
Storage systems being developed include compressed hydrogen, liquid hydrogen, and physical or

ability to create hydrogen from a variety of resources and its ... Show more content on

Hydrogen burns in air at concentrations in the range of 4 to 75 percent by volume (methane burns at
5.3 to 15 percent concentrations by volume). The highest burning temperature of hydrogen is 2,318
degrees Celsius and is reached at 29 percent concentration by volume in air.
Hydrogen Benefits
Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Greenhouse gases are thought to be responsible for changes in global climate. They trap excess
heat from the sun s infrared radiation that would otherwise escape into space, much like a
greenhouse is used to trap heat. When we drive our cars, and light, heat, and cool our homes, we
generate greenhouse gases. But if we used hydrogen in very high efficiency fuel cells for our
transportation and to generate power, we could significantly reduce the GHG emissions especially
if the hydrogen is produced using renewable resources, nuclear power, or clean fossil technologies.
Reduce Air Pollution
The combustion of fossil fuels by electric power plants, vehicles, and other sources is responsible
for most of the smog and harmful particulates in the air. Fuel cells powered by pure hydrogen emit

What Soldiers Do Summary
In her book What Soldiers Do: Sex and the American GI in WWII France, Mary Louise Roberts
looks at the intertwining of World War II and sexual expression of American GIs. Far from what the
wholesome magazine of the time Stars and Stripes would print, Roberts delves into the seemingly
consuming nature of the sexual interactions between GIs and mostly French women. Unresponsive
to threats of disease or punishment, soldiers came to see France as the epicenter of sex and
promiscuity. Though Roberts outlines other relationships soldiers had between children and other
citizens of France, she emphasizes that the preconceived notion of the so called easiness of French
women plus the seemingly primitive culture and weakness of men noticed upon the GI s arrival
warped Franco American Relations. As AndrГ© Siegfried noticed, Americans were thrust into
global engagement... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With extensive support from personal journals, police records, comics, and photographs, Roberts
paints the relationship between GIs and French women. She begins with GIs as liberators and the
American Romanticization of their occupation of France. Though truly the American Military
disrupted French autonomy and governance, through steamy photos of Frenchwomen bestowing
kisses on soldiers the Military is able to paint a picture of GIs benevolence and appeal. Roberts
indicates an instance where women expressed fear of men s infidelity after seeing those photos,
reaffirming GIs masculinity and confidence while putting anxiety and inferiority onto the backs of
American Riveters. GIs saw themselves as liberators giving candy to starving children, rescuing
weak French men from German prisons, and creating infrastructure in primitive villages. And, of
course, sexually satisfying French women. However, their overlording of France creates clashes
when, as prostitution grows exponentially, they refuse to take responsibility or secede

The Purpose Of A Case Study
Media research indicates that journalistic standards and practices are socially constructed
systems, which deal with complex work processes by organising news flow and explicating roles
and competencies (Tuchman 1978; Fishman 1980). The case study method is regarded as a valid
tool to analyse a complex issue. A case studyis defined as an empirical inquiry that investigates a
contemporary phenomenon within its real life context (Yin 2003: 13). It is best used to understand
complex social and organisational issues. Case study evidence to answer researchquestions and
contribute to theory development originates from a variety of sources, such as documentation,
archival records, interviews (qualitative or quantitative) and observation. In this... Show more

The second is that it is not easily open to generalisation but if it is contextualised and carefully
described then others can consider its usefulness in other contexts and examples (Wisker
2001:191). Finally, Dominick and Wimmer argue that case studies are likely to be time
consuming and may occasionally produce massive quantities of data that are hard to summarise
(1987: 165). With regard to this study, I would like to argue that the strengths of observations
outweigh the weaknesses. In addition, there is simply no other method that applies better to what
I want to investigate. The findings are not representative of all newsrooms experimenting with
convergence since the research is derived from one case. Therefore I do not wish to generalise
any findings from this case study. I tried to provide readers with good raw material for their own
generalising because the reader can make his or her own generalisations and interpret it their way
(Stake, 1995:102). However, the findings will offer insights that could be probed for future

Thinnet Cable (10Base2):
Thinnet coaxial cable is connected using special connectors and requires to be terminated at each
end using a 50ohm resistor. 10Base2 stands for:
пЃ¶Data transmission rate of 10Mbps, example: 10
пЃ¶Uses baseband transmission, example: Base
пЃ¶Used in Ethernet networks it has a maximum cable length of 185 metres, example: the 2 for

Thinnet cables use a connector known as a BNC connector to make the connections between the
computers and the cables.
Thicknet Cable (10Base5):
Thicknet is very similar to thinnet, except for the additional layer of aluminium insulation and
copper braid. This makes the cable more reliable and rigid and means it is easier to be used for
longer runs. The bigger the copper core the, the further the distance the cable can carry signals.
Thicknet can be used sometimes as a backbone to connect several smaller thinnet based networks.

Personal Narrative-American Football
I had prepared for weeks on end for this day, every week trying to better myself for this day,
hoping that when this day came the hard work would pay off. It was the day of my trials to get
into the Scotland under fifteen squad that would go to Sweden to compete in one of Europe s
biggest basketball tournaments. I and a few others made the trip down to the Peak in Stirling to
compete for a place in the squad. The whole journey down I was tense thinking about what would
come from today, I prayed that I would make the cut.
Finally after almost three hours we made it to the Peak, hundreds of both boys and girls poured
into the venue all with the same intent to represent their country. We were quickly rushed into big
changing rooms where we were given kits and numbers for scouting. I placed my bag on the

The Punishment Should Be Legal Punishment
There are several rights that each person in the world have. These rights are not a gifts from
anybody, but they are inherent rights that people obtain as a human being, such as the right to life
and the right of liberty..etc. These fundamental rights are protected by the law and the state of the
country in order to maintain the society system. People usually express these rights without
limitation or control, unless exercise these rights encroached on others rights or breached the rules
that the government has set. As a result from such breaches and unlawful acts, sometimes persons
liberty can be taken away as punishment. Since the emergence of penalty institutions, there have

the emergence of prison as a punishment and its aims.
In the medieval ages, the main objective of penalty was retaliation and people were reprise from the
offenders individually. After that, the sanction developed from individual revenge to collective
retribution which was executed under the supervision of the controlled groups and wrongdoers
were penalized physically. Before the end 18th century, deprivation from liberty and imprison
offenders was not known as a punishment, but it was place for housing perpetrators who sentenced
with corporal punishment until the time of punishment implementation, or to harbour who

Birdsong and Journey s End
Compare the ways Sherriff presents the main character of Stanhope in Journey s End with Faulks
presentation of Stephen in Birdsong
Both Journey s End by R.C. Sherriff and Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks portray their main
characters of Stanhope and Stephen in several different ways. These include their ability as a
leader, the way that they are introduced, how they are affected by the war and their troubled
relationships with women. The contrast between the different forms of literature and the time
periods that they were both written in could also affect the overall presentation of the characters,
as Sherriff is relying on his own memories and Faulks is relying on accounts. This could alter how
the characters are perceived by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faulks could have written him like this to show the transformation in the character between the
years, due to the loss of Isabelle and what he has seen during the war. These events may have left
Stephen unable to socialise with the men and prove himself as a key figure of authority.
Stanhope is visibly affected by the war, because he drinks, becomes angry with the men and
shows a detachment towards everyday life. This could show his cowardice towards war. He tells
Osborne that Whenever I look at anything nowadays I see right through it. This could be
showing Stanhope s general attitude towards war, as his years of experience could have shown
him exactly what the war was really like. By drinking to disguise his cowardice, Stanhope could
also be drowning out his true feelings. Sherriff could have written him like this to portray how a
soldier coped with the pressures of the war. This could show the audience the true reality of the
war, because he seems to show the deterioration of Stanhope throughout the short time period of
the play. In contrast to this, Stephen feels disgusted by the war, but he seems curious as to what
will happen. He tells Weir that I am deeply curious to see how much further it can be taken. This
could show Stephen s general interest in the war, even though he also seems to hate it. An
inquisitive nature is implied here, as Faulks could have written him to

Tragic Heroes, Joe and Chris Keller, Portrayed in All My Sons
A tragic hero can be defined by several different factors; the hero usually has a major flaw that
prevents him from seeing the truth that lies in front of him, which contributes to the character s
peripeteia due to mistaken judgement. This mistake then leads to achieving anagnorisis, usually at
the end of the play, but is too late to change anything, and results in death. Both Joe and Chris
Keller constitute as being tragic characters of All My Sonsbecause they both make very tragic
mistakes and are driven by the disastrous events that begin before the play. Joe Keller can be
described as being tragic because his whole life was dedicated to his family and their well being but
all his plans were undone by one fatally flawed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast to Joe, a key theme of Chris mistake was guilt, as he felt a responsibility when he
returned from the war alive, which led him to want to believe the best in Joe. Arthur Miller
chooses to use killed when Chris tells Ann about his men , because it creates the idea that it was
meant to be, and was the ultimate example of altruism, which reflects Chris feelings of guilt
when he returns home. Joe s peripeteia is linked with the swift arrival of George, who infiltrates
the certainty of the holy family , that Steve was entirely at fault for the cylinder heads. George
imminently wants to confront Joe, and this indicates that Joe s fortune may be shifting, which
is shown through Joe s sudden mood change to hopeless fury when he hears of George s arrival.
Joe s fortune is altered by Kate s slip up when talking to George about Joe; He hasn t been laid up
in fifteen years , this then prompts George to raise questions, leading to Joe s downfall. George is
also a factor in Chris peripeteia, which leads to Chris conforming to a realistic outlook on life,
rather than the idealistic. Joe s reversal of fortune guides the path for Chris realisation that his
father was responsible for the death of twenty one pilots, and his brother, Larry, which ultimately
leads to the breakdown of the Keller family, and almost destroys Chris relationship with Ann.

Protein Structure And Function Of A Protein
Proteins are biological macromolecules made from smaller building units called amino acids.
There are 20 natural occurring amino acids which can combine in various ways to form a
polypeptide. There are four distinctive levels of protein structure: primary, secondary, tertiary and
quaternary. The primary structure of a proteinis important in determining the final three dimensional
structure and hence the role and function of a particular protein, both in the human body and in life
around us. The secondary structure of a protein can fall into two major categories; О± helices or ОІ
sheets, other variants also exist such as β turns {{20 Brändén, Carl Ivar, 1934 1991}}. The
precise folding or these secondary structures into a three dimensional shape is known as the tertiary
structure of a protein and multiple polypeptides bound together via covalent and non covalent
bonds forms the complex quaternary structure of a protein.
The primary structure of a protein is a specific linear sequence of amino acids, it determines the
final 3D structure. These amino acids form a covalent bond via peptide bonds between the nitrogen
on the О± amino group on one amino acid and the oxygen from the О± carboxyl group of another.
This joining of two or more amino acids to for a polypeptide chain is known as a condensation
reaction in which a molecule of water is removed, Figure 1. The ends of a polypeptide have
specific names, the end with a free amino group is referred to as the N terminal, whereas

Essay about The Cystic Fibrosis Gene
The Cystic Fibrosis Gene
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited autosomal recessive disease that exerts its main effects on the
digestive system and the lungs. This disease is the most common lethal genetic disorder in
Caucasians, affecting one out of 2,500. On the bioethical front, CF was the first human genetic
disease to be cloned by geneticists. The intent of this paper is to describe how the cystic fibrosis
gene was identified, how the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to determine the exact location of the CF gene, probes were taken from the nucleotide
sequence obtained from chromosome jumping. To find these probes, horse, cow, chicken, and
mouse DNA was separated using Southern Blot electrophoresis. Two probes were found to bind to
all of the vertebrates DNA. This meant that the base pairs within the probes contained related
information, possibly even the gene.
The Northern Blot electrophoresis technique was then used to distinguish between the two
probes still remaining in order tofind out which one actually contained the CF gene. This was
successful because Northern Blot electrophoresis tests RNA, not DNA. The RNA of cell types
affected with CF, along with the RNA of unaffected cell types were placed on a gel. Probe
number two bound to the RNA of affected cell types in the pancreas, colon, and nose (all CF
affected cells,) but did not bind to the RNA from non affected cell types like those of the brain and
heart. Probe number one did not bind exclusively to cell types from CF affected areas like number
two did. From this evidence, these scientists determined that probe number two contained the CF
gene.
While isolating the CF gene

Taking a Look at Harriet Tubman
Eagle success biography paper
Harriet Tubman Harriet not only had dream but she was determined to stand up for what she had
believed. Harriet was a brave young girl who had escaped slavery at a young age and wanted to
help others get out of that life just as she did, and that s what I am going to be telling you today.
At first, In my research I couldn t find any evidence on which exact day harriet was born but i
could find that she was born around 1820 s near Dorchester County on the Eastern Shore of
Maryland, near the town of Cambridge (graceproducts.com). Harriet was given the name
Araminta Ross later that year she had taken on her mother s name of Harriet. When she had
turned six she had been taken ten miles to live with James Cook. His wife who was a weaver
was to teach her the trade of weaving. Cook had her work on the trapline to help catch wild
animals. He had to work the lines while she was ill with the measles, and catching cold from
wading in the water in the condition, she grew very sick. I had reasoned this out in my mind;
there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty, or death; if I could not have one, I would have
the other; for no man should take me alive; I should fight for my liberty as long as my strength
lasted, and when the time came for me to go, the Lord would let them take me. Harriet Tubman

Machiavelli Vs Xenophon Research Paper
Machiavelli vs. Xenophon Dictatorships are one of the most common forms of government, in
dictatorships tyrants can come to power. The meaning of tyrant differs between time periods, in
the Greek age tyrant meant a ruler that came to power in an unusual way, in more modern
english it means a cruel and oppressive ruler. Machiavelli and Xenophon both write books on how
a tyrant or dictator may become a good ruler. Machiavelli describes his views in a more essay form
called, The Prince, while Xenophon describes his views in a dialogue form in, Hiero the Tyrant.
These two lived during completely different times yet were very coherent on their ideas. The
challenges that both authors faced had some similarities, their solutions were often the same as well,

Xenophon and Machiavelli have completely different thoughts on the topic of war. A prince
ought to have no other aim or thought, nor select anything else for his study, than war and its
rules and discipline (Prince, 14). Machiavelli just states that war should be the only thing on a
prince s mind, that war is the only thing a prince should study. War in Machiavelli s eyes is a
concern that should always be on the mind and never looked over. Xenophon states that is war
is always on the mind, wherever tyrants go, however, they always treat it as enemy territory
(Hiero, pg. 13). He also says that tyrants are always on the watch and always feel that they are in
enemy territory even more so inside their own walls, a tyrant, however, is not out of danger even
when he enters his residence (Hiero, pg, 13). Machiavelli thinks of war as a more strategic and
sneaky art whilst Xenophon doesn t explain tactics. Xenophon covers mostly the facts that citizens
should be armed for defense and that the ruler is always at war. Machiavelli also says that citizens
should be armed but in a different

Personal Experience In Life In My Life Of Swaminarayanism
I have been a follower of Swaminarayanism for all seventeen years of my life, but during my
childhood, temple and religion were just a Sunday obligation. My parents would encourage me
to attend the weekly sabhas (assemblies) held at the temple, but I would often refuse because I
was scared and shy. I followed Swaminarayanism solely because my parents followed it, and for
that reason was very uninterested in the culture and religious values. As I grew older, I came to
the realization there were many fruits of Swaminarayanism, and that temple was one place to
take refuge even when everything in the world was going wrong. It opened many new
opportunities for me. I started to volunteer at the mandir by helping young children learn all that
is good in life through the values of religion. I created a bond between the kids and
Swaminarayanism, and although I was not a firm believer at their age, I wanted to make sure
that they had that connection and conviction to god and to Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
Swaminarayanism has taught me to help others and appreciate the things I have. I dream of
becoming a doctor because it will help me live by Pramukh Swami Maharaj s motto: In the Joy
of Others Lies Our Own. Being a successful doctor and helping out the less fortunate is one of the
best feelings in the world, and Swaminarayanism has instilled these values within me. I want to be
a part of the Doctors Without Borders organization so I am able to serve the unfortunate people
across seas.

Saint Augustine Of Hippo Once Stated
Saint Augustine of Hippo once stated, The world is a book and those who do not travel read only
one page. It was after stumbling across this statement that I was influenced to call up my friend and
suggest a road trip.
When we started off, it was a beautiful day. The bright morning sun peeked over the Appalachian
mountains to bid us farewell as we packed our belongings into the 2011 Chevy Cruze. Dew still
perched on the delicate leaves of various summer flowers while we rode down the road towards
Tennessee.
My friend Sarah drove. Her fingers tapped the steering wheel in rhythm to the Carrie Underwood
song blaring from the radio. It was the radio s job to keep us awake since we had left so early in the
morning; however, it was not doing a good job as I fell asleep only twenty minutes into the ride.
Sarah had to wake me up at the rest stop just outside of Roanoke, Virginia.
Hey, Allyson, she called as she shook my shoulders, it would be nice if you woke up, so I could
take a nap.
I just mumbled an incoherent string of words in response.
I can just drive right back to Pennsylvania. We don t have to take a road trip.
That got me up. I had so much invested into this trip like money and time.
I sat in the driver s seat and watched the road continuously channel under the car sort of like a
conveyor belt. It was hypnotizing, just keeping my eye on the road. Before either Sarah or I knew
it, we were already parked in front of our hotel in Gatlinburg,

Differences Between Animal Farm And The Truman Show Living a good life and trying to pursue the unattainable utopian society takes power, but not everyone has the power to make these things reality. The good life and the utopian society will stay elusive unless one has the ambition to want to thrive and fight for power and control over their own life. The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, conveys the idea that everyone has a different perspective as to what the good life and utopiais so, in order to obtain it, Truman must fight for the power and freedom to control his own life. Likewise, in Animal Farm, George Orwell explores how the animals believe that to be able to obtain the unreachable utopian society and good life they must first have power and control over their own lives. To do so they must get rid of Mr Jones, but they soon grow to realise that even once you have power and control, too much power can easily be abused. A good life is a term for the life that one would like to live. It s a life in which one has the freedom to self direct their own life. Truman has the perfect wife, the perfect house, perfect job and perfect friends but does that really matter if he doesn t have freedom? In The Truman Show, Weir expresses that without freedom the good life is unattainable, one can never truly be happy and content with their life unless they have freedom. We see this most clearly when Truman is so determined to Thrive in life and escape from the dome that the good life Christof has endowed for him doesn t matter. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The internet has allowed the creation of an industry based solely in gathering and selling mass amounts of user data. This data collection is meant to improve and personalize a user s experience. But the amount of data collected far exceeds the amount needed to accomplish this. And despite the size and pervasive nature of the industry, the general public knows very little about what they do. Data collection online is too invasive, lacks transparency, and must be restricted. For starters, the sheer amount of data collected is absurd. Some of it is expected, such as names, email addresses, crash reports, and other basic pieces of information. But many companies also drew from unexpected sources. Google collects data from search queries, time and date of phone calls, length of phone calls, and even data on a user s precise location (Google). And while a user may expect that Facebook collects data from everything they post, they may be surprised to learn that Facebook also collects data on a user from posts by other people. Facebook will even collect information on web activity outside of Facebook via third party partners (Facebook). And they re hardly the only companies to do this. In fact, there are companies that exist solely for this purpose. They are known as data brokers , and they gather much of their information online. The Selection System Of A Multiphasic Hurdle Approach Essay In the selection system, a multiphasic hurdle approach will be used, meaning that individuals must meet minimal standards from the current stage before being moved on to the next. As mentioned previously, the initial assessment will involve having applicants fill out an application blank. This application will then be scored according to our minimal standards, ensuring that applicants meet the minimum age requirement and that they are authorized to work in the United States. Therefore, the process will essentially require those two things, and the rest of the applicants will be passed along to the next stage. As a result of the requirements, we do not expect this assessment to have an adverse impact. Candidate reactions will likely be at least moderately positive, as it will involve little effort on their part, and will provide necessary information to move forward in the employment process. However, these applications may take significant amounts of time to process, so we will be using an online application that will allow us to receive our data and easily sort out those who do not meet minimum requirements, saving time and money. Work experience will be scored, but not used to determine whether or not applicants make it over the first hurdle. This information will only be used in the final decision. Work experience will be placed in three distinct categories: no relevant experience, minimal relevant experience (0 3 months), and substantial relevant experience (3 months or ... • 21. The Early History Of Islam THE EARLY HISTORY OF ISLAM Lily Grote HUM 2020: Introduction to the Humanities December 1st, 2015 The history of the Islamic religion begins in 610 C.E., with Muhammad ibn Abdallah, a merchant who every year during the month of Ramadan would retire to a cave on the summit of Mount Hira, just outside Mecca in the Arabian Hijaz, where he prayed, fasted and gave alms to the poor. This was a common practice for many Arabs in the peninsula. Muhammad was a merchant, a member of the tribe Quraysh which had become quite wealthy trading among bordering countries. The Quraysh were focused on accumulating more wealth but at the expense of the tribe s poorer family groups, known as clans. A spiritual restlessness had become apparent among many of the Arab countries, as they knew that Judaism and Christianity were more refined than the Arab s own pagan customs. Many Arabs began to believe that they were left out by al Lah (the High God of their pantheon, literally meaning the God ) because they were not sent a prophet or scripture such as Jesus, the Bible, or the Torah in that of the Christian and Jewish religions. Muhammad himself had most likely never heard of the Christian prophets. Oftentimes, the Jews and followers of Christ taunted the Arabs for not being a part of the divine plan. By the nineteenth century, the population of London had grown much too large for one bridge, however there was a challenge as to how to build the bridge without disrupting river traffic. In 1876 a Special Bridge Committee was formed to oversee the designing and building of the bridge. The committee decided to open the designing up for public competition. Over fifty designs were submitted and the committee filtered through them until they discovered one that they liked. The chosen design was created by Horace Jones, the city architect, and John Wolfe Barry ( Bridge History ). Construction began in October of 1884. Two gigantic piers were driven into the river bed to support the eleven thousand tons of steel and granite that were used to construct Tower Bridge. Athletes worldwide put their bodies and health at risk due to the usage of performance enhancing drugs and methods such as blooddoping, steroids, and injections. But in retrospect, it harms a lot more than just an athlete s body; in fact, performance enhancing drugs and supplements plague the athletic playing field worldwide, which leads to social unrest, health issues, and even political issues. It is the job of the red blood cell to transport oxygen to muscles. Increased red blood cell counts benefit the athlete in a number of ways. However, due to controversial methods of execution such as: blood transfusions, consuming erythropoietin (EPO), and injecting synthetic oxygen carriers, the risks far outweigh the benefits. When transfused, a high amount of blood is present within the body, increasing stress on the heart immensely leading to stroke or a heart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Duke s adoration for the Duchess was possessive as he demonstrated dissatisfaction when she grinned at other men or when her looks went all over the place . Her excellence and consideration was implied for himself just, and when she turned out to be excessively of an irritation he offered orders to stop her forever. He enabled a representation of her to be painted in light of the fact that the craftsman was Fra Pandolf , doubtlessly a chaste priest. • 33. Analysis Of The Globe And Mail Written By Antonia Maioni It should come as no surprise that Quebec s history is distinct and as a result, has transformed the province into a distinct region within Canada. Canada s fГЄte without Quebec, an article in The Globe and Mail written by Antonia Maioni, illustrates the division between Quebec and the rest of Canada especially on CanadaDay. Maioni discusses the importance of July 1st for Quebeckers as the fГЄte de dГ©mГ©nagement, when rental leases often change hands in the province, and not the celebration of Canada. She notes that for francophone Quebeckers, Canada Day is nothing short of the ordinary since their lives do not revolve around being patriotic flag wavers (Maioni). This deep seated resentment remains over Confederation and what is seen as a less then perfect deal stuck in order to unite what Canadians know today to be Canada. With 2014 being historically significant in marking the 150th anniversary of both the Charlottetown and Quebecconferences, the gathering in Quebec has been largely omitted. Maioni argues that it is the Quebec conference that should merit some reflection since that is where the constitutional framework was established. Unlike in Charlottetown, which become a commemorative cottage industry as a result of central Canadians intervening on what was once supposed to be a Maritime union (Maioni). This paper will discuss how Quebec s relationship to Canada is framed in the media and how it affects regional experience as a result. Much like Canada, Quebec often ... Many feel that the fast food industry is providing a valuable service by catering to consumer needs; that it is inexpensive and easily accessible. For people who don t have time to prepare meals, for households in which both parents work, there s no question it provides a service. But what is the true cost of this convenience? In the book, Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser reveals that the cost is the lives of the people who work in the meat processing plants. Meat packingis now the most dangerous job in the United States. The men and women who work in the slaughterhouses are often low paid, poor immigrants, who have not completely learned English and are practically illiterate. In any business, stopping an employee from receiving due compensation for injuries is unfair and unethical. It seems like that in any other business, if a worker is injured, and does not receive fair compensation, they have the ability and drive to enforce the law; but in the case of the slaughterhouse workers, that are often illiterate, this rarely happens. The fast food industry both feeds and prays off the young. Pioneers in developing marketing strategies to target children, the fast food chains have even infiltrated the nation s schools through lunchroom franchises and special advertising packages that answer public education s need for funds; in every way possible, giving the children a loyal friend to rely on. In many franchises, teenagers are perfect candidates for low paying, low skilled, short term jobs and constitute a large part of the fast food chains workforce; and often practically run individual locations, having more responsibility than most adults. The intense advertising and responsibilities is not the only thing we saw in Fast Food Nation that effected children. The quality of the meat that is fed to children in school and at the fast food restaurants is in some cases horrendous. His fame may have been enriched by the fact that he was the first son of a president to become president. Quincy as he was called to avoid any confusion with his father John Adams, was one of the most qualified people to ever be elected into the White House. His six years (one term) in office saw both success and failure. John Quincy Adamsas Secretary of State had quite a few successes, but also had several failures as President; however, his Presidency led to the most successful post Presidency in the history of the United States. Unresponsive to threats of disease or punishment, soldiers came to see France as the epicenter of sex and promiscuity. There are 20 natural occurring amino acids which can combine in various ways to form a polypeptide. There are four distinctive levels of protein structure: primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary. The primary structure of a proteinis important in determining the final three dimensional structure and hence the role and function of a particular protein, both in the human body and in life around us. The secondary structure of a protein can fall into two major categories; О± helices or ОІ sheets, other variants also exist such as ОІ turns {{20 BrГ¤ndГ©n, Carl Ivar, 1934 1991}}. The precise folding or these secondary structures into a three dimensional shape is known as the tertiary structure of a protein and multiple polypeptides bound together via covalent and non covalent bonds forms the complex quaternary structure of a protein. I had reasoned this out in my mind; there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty, or death; if I could not have one, I would have the other; for no man should take me alive; I should fight for my liberty as long as my strength lasted, and when the time came for me to go, the Lord would let them take me. • 52. Machiavelli Vs Xenophon Research Paper Machiavelli vs. Xenophon Dictatorships are one of the most common forms of government, in dictatorships tyrants can come to power. The meaning of tyrant differs between time periods, in the Greek age tyrant meant a ruler that came to power in an unusual way, in more modern english it means a cruel and oppressive ruler. Machiavelli and Xenophon both write books on how a tyrant or dictator may become a good ruler. Machiavelli describes his views in a more essay form called, The Prince, while Xenophon describes his views in a dialogue form in, Hiero the Tyrant. These two lived during completely different times yet were very coherent on their ideas. The challenges that both authors faced had some similarities, their solutions were often the same as well, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Xenophon and Machiavelli have completely different thoughts on the topic of war. A prince ought to have no other aim or thought, nor select anything else for his study, than war and its rules and discipline (Prince, 14). Machiavelli just states that war should be the only thing on a prince s mind, that war is the only thing a prince should study. War in Machiavelli s eyes is a concern that should always be on the mind and never looked over. Xenophon states that is war is always on the mind, wherever tyrants go, however, they always treat it as enemy territory (Hiero, pg. 13). He also says that tyrants are always on the watch and always feel that they are in enemy territory even more so inside their own walls, a tyrant, however, is not out of danger even when he enters his residence (Hiero, pg, 13). Machiavelli thinks of war as a more strategic and sneaky art whilst Xenophon doesn t explain tactics. Xenophon covers mostly the facts that citizens should be armed for defense and that the ruler is always at war. Machiavelli also says that citizens should be armed but in a different ... • 54. Personal Experience In Life In My Life Of Swaminarayanism I have been a follower of Swaminarayanism for all seventeen years of my life, but during my childhood, temple and religion were just a Sunday obligation. My parents would encourage me to attend the weekly sabhas (assemblies) held at the temple, but I would often refuse because I was scared and shy. I followed Swaminarayanism solely because my parents followed it, and for that reason was very uninterested in the culture and religious values. As I grew older, I came to the realization there were many fruits of Swaminarayanism, and that temple was one place to take refuge even when everything in the world was going wrong. It opened many new opportunities for me. I started to volunteer at the mandir by helping young children learn all that is good in life through the values of religion. I created a bond between the kids and Swaminarayanism, and although I was not a firm believer at their age, I wanted to make sure that they had that connection and conviction to god and to Pramukh Swami Maharaj. Swaminarayanism has taught me to help others and appreciate the things I have. I dream of becoming a doctor because it will help me live by Pramukh Swami Maharaj s motto: In the Joy of Others Lies Our Own. Being a successful doctor and helping out the less fortunate is one of the best feelings in the world, and Swaminarayanism has instilled these values within me. I want to be a part of the Doctors Without Borders organization so I am able to serve the unfortunate people across seas. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Saint Augustine Of Hippo Once Stated Saint Augustine of Hippo once stated, The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. It was after stumbling across this statement that I was influenced to call up my friend and suggest a road trip. When we started off, it was a beautiful day. The bright morning sun peeked over the Appalachian mountains to bid us farewell as we packed our belongings into the 2011 Chevy Cruze. Dew still perched on the delicate leaves of various summer flowers while we rode down the road towards Tennessee. My friend Sarah drove. Her fingers tapped the steering wheel in rhythm to the Carrie Underwood song blaring from the radio. It was the radio s job to keep us awake since we had left so early in the morning; however, it was not doing a good job as I fell asleep only twenty minutes into the ride. Sarah had to wake me up at the rest stop just outside of Roanoke, Virginia. Hey, Allyson, she called as she shook my shoulders, it would be nice if you woke up, so I could take a nap. I just mumbled an incoherent string of words in response. I can just drive right back to Pennsylvania. We don t have to take a road trip. That got me up. I had so much invested into this trip like money and time. I sat in the driver s seat and watched the road continuously channel under the car sort of like a conveyor belt. It was hypnotizing, just keeping my eye on the road. Before either Sarah or I knew it, we were already parked in front of our hotel in Gatlinburg, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
