A Brutal National Pastime Discovering the letter to the Washington Post, The dangers of concussions
football are not gone there was a certain amount of interest sparked. Of course we know that the
dangers of concussions are still there, why would they have stopped? Steve Almond, the writer of this
letter, is replying to a previous review [....] of his new book, Against Football, he ¬¬there were
dangerous falsehoods about the medical realities of football. Almond claims that his book s purpose
was to talk honestly about football and explore the moral hazards of it. Almond desires to reiterate the
purpose of his own writing. The author, Steve Almond, is an American writer of mostly short stories

back as 1905. Theodore Roosevelt gathered coaches and athletic advisors to the White House in an
effort to improve the game. The changes made improved the quality as well as lowered the death rate.
In 1905 alone, eighteen people died. [] In more recent times, the murder suicide of Jovan Belcher in

than frenemy Being a single child, as I can tell you, is a difficult thing. Aside from the sometimes
unresolvable loneliness and almost always glued attention, the constant comparison with the kids next
door can be supremely annoying. The phrase stands for those children of several close friends of your
mom or literally just the kids who live next door. For me, there s always been a girl like that since I
was five and things can be a little overwhelming when she is also a competitive Leo (star sign). In
middle school, the girl would ask me to watch TV and ditch homework with her, while in fact she had
secretly done the work beforehand. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we are making a comparison, women obviously have a better appreciation for the word frenemy,
judging from the frequency they use it. After all, envy is what determines the essence of frenemy, and
is mainly the reason that drives people apart. Evolutionary psychology suggests that women are harder
to be associative thinker while man thinks more hierarchically. This makes women better at raising
children, but also makes them more easily jealous, intimated and insecure. The characterization of
frenemy in a way gave women a relatively healthy outlet by accepting the person as is and avoiding
more catfights. Aside from the common connotation, frenemy has much more positive interpretation:
If they weren t enemy, they would have been friend. This marks respect for your competitor as one
who also has great talents and capability. It is the courage and honesty to admit that because of him
you have more incentives to improve. Media and celebrity, Richard Parker and Pi, Harry and Draco:

My Role Model My Mother
The bond between a mother and a child is one unlike that of any two humans beings on earth. At first I
had absolutely no idea who this person was when I was born. Blind and completely oblivious of who
and what surrounded me, all I knew was that I was being held by a woman tight in her arms. Even as
young as being an infant, I knew she was the one, the one who would have impacted my life the most.
A mother nurtures, parents, and advise their children so they can become a better individual in the
community and the world today. My role model, my best friend, my mother. Mom has always been the
one I have looked up to since the day I first laid in her arms. She was not rich nor famous or had
invented anything that would change the world. She just went to work day in and day out to support
us. She has done everything she could do to become the successful women she is today, I honestly
have to say she is the strongest and most independent women I have ever met. She speaks out words
as if she was the first lady of the United States. My mother s words truly inspire me.She is the kind of
person that has time for her kids, always interested in learning something new, would sacrifice herself
for the family and is the strongest women in my eyes. My mother actually is a very ordinary woman,
but in her tiny but large appearance shines an extraordinary fortitude, perseverance, an altruistic soul
and kind heart humane. She s taught me more than anyone else not only inspired me to have the

The Crusades Impact
From 1095 CE to 1291 CE, there was a total of nine Crusades that spanned from Western Europe to
the Middle East. The Crusades were military campaigns fought between the Christians and the
Muslims, and their justification was to obtain control of Jerusalem: the Holy Land. The impact of the
Crusades can still be seen today, as they were an important factor in the modernization of Western
Europe s civilization. The Crusades affected many parts of the world, including the people who fought
in these battles and the others who were at home. These wars directly affected the role of the Church
in Europe, since the Crusades were fought in the name of Christ and they provided the wealth and
power the church gained as a product of the Crusades. Not only ... Show more content on

The Christians who fought in the Crusades learned better and newer ways of doing mundane day to
day things from the Muslims, who had more advanced methods of doing what the Europeans had been
doing more simply for centuries. For example, in Jerusalem, Muslim doctors discovered painkillers,
which were used for when the doctors would perform amputations, so the operation would be
relatively painless for the patient. This was more sophisticated than the Europeans way of amputating,
which was to hack off the limb while holding down the patient, with no drugs to kill the pain. The
Muslim way of performing surgery was quickly adopted by the Europeans after the Crusades. Before
the wars, Christians were known for being dirty and relatively smelly. That changed after the Holy
Wars; Muslims wash very often due to religious practices, and the Christians adopted their methods of
washing and became accustomed to using soap to bathe every day. The crusaders who returned home
brought soap for others to utilize. They then were able to emulate and create their own soap, and they
discovered that cleanliness would help stop common diseases from being spread as quickly and easily

Yellowtone And Hawaii Similarities
Yellowstone and Hawaii Comparison Hawaii and Yellowstone both attract millions of people per year.
Tourists go to Hawaii for sunshine and beaches, and to Yellowstone to experience the hot springs and
wonders of nature. Hawaii and Yellowstone may have differences, but what many people don t know
is that they are alike in numerous ways. Both Hawaii and Yellowstone were created by hotspot. A
difference is that the Islands of Hawaii were created over thousands of years because of a plate that is
moving over a hotspot, and every once and awhile magma from the hotspot pushes up and creates a
volcano. In contrast, Yellowstone was formed when a hotspot moved under it and over millions of
years has caused eruptions which have shaped present day Yellowstone. ... Show more content on

A similarity is that both Yellowstone and Hawaii are located in the middle of a plate, but Hawaii is
located on the Pacific plate where as Yellowstone is located on the North American plate. Another
reason they are different is that they have different crusts. Hawaii has an oceanic crust which is thinner
than continental crust, which is what Yellowstone has. A further example of how they are similar is
that they are both located above a hotspot. A hotspot is an area of volcanic activity. Hawaii and
Yellowstone are both major vacation destinations; they may seem completely different, but they are
actually quite similar. A difference between them is that people go to Hawaii to see the volcanoes and
go to Yellowstone to see Old Faithful and hot springs. Although many people may think this is a
difference, it is actually a similarity because all of these things are volcanic activity caused by
hotspots. Hotspots lie underneath both Yellowstone and Hawaii, but they cause different geological
activity in both places. An example of how they are different is that Hawaii has the most active
volcanoes on earth whereas Yellowstone s volcano is dormant. On the other hand, they are both
similar because they both produce geysers and hot

Superego In A Tale Of Two Cities
In A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, Sydney Carton and Charles Darnay look identical;
however, they develop differently throughout the novel. Throughout the entire novel, Dickens creates
Darnay as a representation of the superego, which is why Lucie chose him. To contrast, Dickens
establishes Carton as a representation of the ego. However, as the novel progresses, Dickens makes
Carton s use of ego transition from subconscious to conscious, as a result of his relationship with
Lucie and his deeper commitment to societal values. The latter was especially shown through his
sacrifice to the Guillotine, knowing it was the right thing to do. In psychological terms, the double
represents an alter ego, a part of the self split from conscious ... Show more content on

The first occurrence of such was when she fainted in the courtroom: Yet, this Mr. Carton took in more
of the details of the scene than he appeared to take in; for now, when Miss Manette s head dropped
upon her father s breast, he was the first to see it, and to say audibly: Officer! look to that young lady.
Help the gentleman to take her out. Don t you see she will fall! Carton would not have cared if another
woman had fallen, but his attraction to Lucie represents his growing morality. Sydney Carton must
discover belief before he can proceed from self analysis to meaningful activity. Lucie Manette
provides the means (Lloyd, 1992). The gist of superego is societal values and ethics. Lucie embodies
the superego fully, as shown through how she helped her father recover. In addition, Lucie had her 3
suitors because she represented the good of society. Therefore, she acts as Carton s superego.
Additionally, Carton s aforementioned condemnation of morality shows how he transitioned from
having no morality to embracing it, after falling in love with Lucie. Lastly, when Carton says, that he
would die to keep a life you love beside you, he is clearly depicting his morals since society admires
sacrifice and unselfishness. Carton s use of superego ultimately impacts the consciousness of his

As manufacturing in big factories and rapid population growth there has created a need to protect the

ensure they do not become wasteful and jeopardize the future of future generations in a bid to make
profits for themselves. Caux also support for a business that is oriented to benefit the whole society
and even the world. The business will have the responsibility to upgrade the living standards of its
community and be an active participant in reforms that benefit all. (Hinnells, 2010) This means that
the business will take into account the culture and beliefs of the surrounding community and be
mindful of them. The business will make sure to operate within the confines of the laws stated. It will
be accountable to the laws of the state and the international laws but should make a provision a not all
laws are beneficial to the customers it should not be firm in the way that it is conducted such that the
customer ends up suffering like jacking up prices of basic commodities simply because the
government needs an extra source of income through taxation. In such an instance, the business has a
responsibility to the community to oppose this move and encourage other channels to achieve the
same goal. (Srinivasan, 2003) Another major principle encouraged is that businesses should not be

The Family Law Act 1975 ( Cth )
The Family Court is a superior court which was first established in 1975 under the Family Law Act
1975 (Cth). This Act, as amended by the Family Law Reform Act 1995 (Cth) and the Family Law
Amendment (Shared Parental Responsibility) Act 2006 (Cth), states that all children have a right to
know, be cared for, and have regular contact with both parents and other significant people. This is of
course if it would be contrary to the child s best interests.
The Family Court ensures that each case and judgement concerning marriage/relationship breakdowns
involving children is treated equally with emphasis on the child and its best interests. At times mutual
agreement on the shared parental responsibility (the underlying principle of the law ... Show more

The additional considerations are very broad and include a large variety. In many circumstances, and
depending on the situation of each individual case, what the court believes to be relevant will also be
taken into account. Some main ones include:
 the views of the child (depending on age)
 each parent s ability/ willingness to encourage a close and continuing relationship between the child
and the other parent
 the possible effect of change on the child
 the nature of the relationship between the child and each parent
 any family violence/family violence order that applies to the child or their family
International laws often play a large role in the development of laws and legislation of the Australia
Legal System. An example of this is the United Nation s Convention of the Rights of the Child,
otherwise known as CROC . This has been endorsed by Australian Family Law and has become the
basis to which the best interests of the child were formed.
In the case of Bruce and Douglas [2014] FamCA80, proceedings relate to parenting arrangements for
the child L Douglas, between the applicant Ms Bruce, who is the child s mother, and the respondent
Mr Douglas, who is the child s father. The child, aged two and a half years at the time of the hearing,
has lived with her mother since her birth in April 2011, and has spent very limited time with her father.
The mother seeks orders that the child

How Did Religion Influence The Development Of The Ancient...
The ancient Egyptian civilization captivates everyone s imagination. The mystery of religion in
particular. Research has been conducted in this area. This essay will specifically focus on what the
religion was, how it developed, how the religion affected the government, how it affected the way
people lived and how the religion has influenced this generation.
The ancient Egyptian belief was based on polytheism. The religion was unique during ancient times.
Research shows that the Egyptians believed in many gods. They had around 200 gods and goddess.
Many of the gods presented themselves as half human and half animal. Amon Re was considered a
true god and was the king of all gods. Their two chief Gods were Osiris and Amon Re. Horus was the

Religions such as Buddhism, Judaism and Christianity have been influenced by the Ancient Egyptian
religion. Research shows that the ancient Egyptians had questions about the life after death and what
results when you die and if God existed. So they developed a religion that they firmly followed and
believed in through their beliefs and worshiped their gods, just like we do today. If they didn`t create
these religions, we would have different beliefs today. According to the evidence ancient Egypt
influenced our religions we follow today. Ancient Egypt was one of the first countries that converted
to Christianity in 43 CE. A lot of the legends of ancient Egyptian gods were transferred to the new god
Jesus. The legends were transferred to the new god Jesus because of the early childhood stories of
Jesus and his mother Mary as they were often compared stories of Horus and his adventures with his
mother, Isis. These religions managed to influence other countries and then other countries started to
find more religions. If it weren t for the ancient Egyptians, we wouldn t have the religions people

Across India s forest areas, people are fighting for democracy, livelihood and dignity. Millions of
people live in and near India s forestlands, but have no legal right to their homes, lands or livelihoods.
Since times immemorial, these tribal communities of India have had an integral, close knit
relationship with the forests and have been dependent on the forests for livelihoods and existence.
This is the closest possible example of mutually beneficial symbiotic relationships of man with nature.
However, rights of these communities were rarely recognized by the authorities and in the absence of

There is thus formed a legal limbo in which these communities are stuck, that leads to harassment,

absolute authority over forest dwellers livelihoods and daily lives. What can this law do? The Forest
Rights Act promises livelihood security of forest communities through the recognition of land and
resources rights and more decentralised and democratic management of forests by them. This act
paves the way for the following two things: Granting legal recognition to the rights of traditional
forest dwelling communities, partially correcting the injustice caused by the forest laws Making a
beginning towards giving communities and the public a voice in forest and wildlife conservation The
law recognizes three types of rights that the forest dwellers can get under this Act: Land Rights: The
right to own the land that one is cultivating and has been cultivating for a stipulated period, subject to
a maximum area limit, along with rules as to who can buy, sell, transfer or inherit said land Use
Rights: rights to use and/or collect minor forest produce, grazing grounds, local water bodies, etc.
Right to Protect and Conserve: For the first time, this law also gives the community the right to protect
and manage the forest. The above data gives a brief idea as to the scope

ADD/ADHD changes a man s efficiency in college environment, as well as other aspects of life too.

Comparing Wanderer, The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer
Exile is commonly seen in Anglo Saxon literature, specifically the poems: The Wanderer, The Wife s
Lament, and The Seafarer. All three poems deal with the idea of losing something and missing the
something so much it pains them to think about it. Although in many cases, the person experiencing
exile has nothing to do but think about their exile. In The Wanderer, the speaker has lost all of his
kinsman over time. He feels exiled by his misery, grievous disasters, and death of kin and he is weary
of exile. It is physically straining for him to feel this way everyday, but he cannot do anything about it.

Lovers From The Lais Of Marie De France As A Children s Book
Kerstin Oxford
HP 1020: Paper 3
Chevrefoil Adapted Imagine a story of lovers from The Lais of Marie de France as a children s book.
It would show the events true love can overcome, and inevitably end in a happy ending. The stories
would have to be adapted in such a way to where all the details were appropriate for a child. It must be
wrote to where the story would not be over their head, so they could fully understand the story. My
adaption of Chevrefoil from The Lais of Marie de France into a children s book would essentially fall
into the same category as the stories about love between a prince and a princess. Children love the
type of stories where two people fall in love and are able to be together. Since the original Lai is fairly
short it would allow most of the details to be included, without running a story that s too long for a
child s attention span. The book would be appropriately illustrated, filling it with entertaining pictures
that children would love. The adaption would be called Love and Honeysuckles, as it s short and
catchy, and honeysuckles is a word that children may think is silly especially combined with love,
which would have them somewhat intrigued before starting the book. Children when inclined learn
many lessons from the books they read. A lot of older literature is already referenced in children books
today; this is where a lot of us have gained a basic knowledge of history or previous literature. This
adaption is needed for just this

Trickery or Treat in Richard the Third Essays
Trickery or Treat in Richard the Third
In the play Richard III , Richard s trickery and manipulation ultimately leads to his downfall. His
goals are based on what he can get from others and how they can help him, not on helping himself.
This paper shows how Richard uses his skills of trickery and manipulation to not only move up on the
hierarchy, but to actually get elected king. He uses his trickery to get Anne his wife to help move up
his position on the hierarchy; he uses his trickery to get elected and to get his men to fight for him and
not for the better of the country.
Throughout the play Richard uses his trickery to persuade people to see things his way. In his

Making Anne believe him was easy due to his skills to trick and manipulate others into thinking his
way. During the whole play Richard s evil ways are easy to see for the reader, but for other characters
in the play it was not so easy. He tricked and persuaded them to elect him king without even
mentioning it. When there was no one else before him on the hierarchy he had them believe he was a
holy man that was not suitable for the throne. This was all a disguise for them to just hand over the
throne and practically beg him to be king. This is best shown in the conversation between Richard,
Buckingham, Catesby, Lord Mayor, Aldermen, and citizens when Richard tells them Alas, why would
you heap this care on me? / I am unfit for state and majesty. / I do beseech you take it not amiss, / I
cannot nor I will not yield to you. (Act III, Scene vii p.145) Here Richard is using reverse psychology
to make them think he was such a humble man. When actually he is a power hungry and very
conceited man; he only does things when the outcome benefits him. He doesn t care about others, he
represents everything a king should go against: greed, manipulation, and gaining power. In Richard s
last battle he makes his men believe Richmond and Richmond s men are bad by tricking them. His
men do not follow him because they trust him, but rather, they follow him because they are

Search For The Right Way Of Life In Herman Hesse s Siddhartha
Siddhartha
Lap Topic #6
By: Jose Guerra
Due: 11/30/2017
Jose Guerra 11/30/17
We go on day by day in search for the right way of life, but whose right is it to tell us how we live?
Who is to tell us right from wrong? In many cultures, religion dictates what people perceive to be
moral and not. Although religion is accepted into the lifestyle of many, what happens to those that do
not find fulfillment in the words of the people preaching these beliefs? In the book Siddhartha by
Herman Hesse, the life of the protagonist named Siddhartha is expressed through his issues to find
satisfaction in teachings. He didn t find fulfillment in the words of others, not of his father, not the
oldest samana, not even the Sublime One(the Buddha). The novel takes you through every step of his
life and at the end of the book there is an ironic message. The message contradicts everything he
believed that was going to aid him on this journey to Nirvana which surprises the readers.
The novel begins in the early stages of Siddhartha s life. He was a brahmin s son which meant he was
in an upper class compared to most. As a young man he had everything, he had the life that many
dreamed. His life was that of someone that was easily envied, but in reality he wasn t living the perfect
life. He was dissatisfied with the teachings of the brahmins and he didn t find fulfillment in their
words although he was a pandit. He mastered their teachings but couldn t master their meaning.

Enrique s Journey Theme
Immigration affects families in many different ways. In the book Enrique s Journey by Sonia Nazario,
family is a core element. After Enrique s mother leaves for the U.S., the whole concept of their family
gets distorted. The walking out of Enrique s father and the abandonment of his grandmother help to
disband the family even more. Enrique also threatens to repeat the same mistakes his family made
with his daughter when he considers leaving her behind in Honduras. Family is the central theme in
Enrique s Journey because of his relationship and resentment with his mother, the rejection of his
father and grandmother, and Enrique s decision to leave his daughter, Jasmin, behind. Enrique s
mother, Lourdes, leaves for the U.S. to find work

Emptiness In Buddhism
Emptiness in my own words from the Buddhism prospective would be like imagining a person sitting
in their secret place in the lotus position meditating with a basket full of issues or stress triggers. As
you sit there meditating with your eyes closed, focusing on your breathing and then you would start to
empty your mind of each issue found in the basket one by one. You would continue to do this until the
basket is empty, until your mind is empty and until your soul is empty. At that moment is when you
should reach nirvana. I imaged it being this way because of my Christian experienced, it will be the
same process but instead of sitting, you will be on your knees, instead of sitting quietly, you will be

Some refer to it as a mental state and some refer to it as purification process. It would be like
combining the emptiness level with wisdom, if I had to explain in my own words.
In comparing and contrasting Theravada, Gelug pa, and Zen. Theravada is a school with Mahayana
Buddhism that teaches the four noble truths and it also includes the eightfold path. Theravadins
believe in and worship deities; Theravadins do not believe in the existence of suffering and evil as a
theological problem. Theravadins teaching includes karma, good karma and bad karma as an
understanding of the Buddhist path and process of purification and perfection. Theravadins objective
for their next life is to have a good rebirth as a human or deity.
Gelug pa is a school of Tibetan Buddhism. Gelug pa is also called the Yellow Hat sect in Tibetan

The Pros And Cons Of Influenza Vaccines
The problem explored into this essay is the Influenza (flu) vaccine and if it should be compulsory for
the students attending the International School of Amsterdam. Before going into details about the
vaccine itself it is key to understand what Influenza is. The flu is a virus. Viruses are parasite which
cause the infection and spread of diseases such as smallpox, chicken pox or in this case influenza1.
Viruses enter a body which will be their host for the remaining of time. They attach themselves to a
cell of the body and eventually with all the other cells leading to inevitable contamination of the
hosting body1. This event can occur due to the size of the virus, which is around 8 times smaller than

Vaccines contains a variety of ingredients that people could be allergic to. This excludes a whole
group of people from getting the vaccine. Some of this ingredients are aluminium salts, sugars, egg
protein, formaldehyde and Neomycin9. Also after the vaccination there is the possibilities of receiving
some sides effects such as high fever, which happens in about 70%11 of children, eye infection,
infections in general, which happen in about 1 person per 667,00011 and usually the person has a

Sea Otters Essay
Sea Otters that live in the kelp forest habitat, and Prairie dogs that live in the plains habitats are
considered keystones species due to the fact that without both of them the ecosystem would crumble
and not be able to survive without each animal.
Sea otters primary diet consists of animal like sea urchins, and sea urchins primary diet are kelp
forests. The sea otter is considered to be a keystone species because it feeds off of sea urchins, and
help preserve the kelp forests. If the sea otter were removed from this ecosystem, it would be
disastrous due to the fact that the sea urchin population would sky rocket because they have no
predators like the sea otter. The sea urchin would then proceed to eat a majority of the kelp forest,
which is a habitat for many animals living in this ecosystem. With the deforestation of the kelp forests,
the sea urchin wouldn t have anything to eat, and they would slowly die off as well. The sea ... Show

They live primarily in northern and northwestern North America. The largest way they interact with
species directly is that they are pretty centered in the food chain, meaning that they are able to eat a lot
of animals below them, and a lot of animals are able to eat them. The holes that they also burrow make
habitats for many other animals other than themselves. Prairie dogs also aerate and fertilize soil, and
improve water quality, which allows for healthier, and more grass to grow. They are considered a
keystone species due to the effects that they have on not only the other animals in the ecosystem, but
also the way they affect other plants. Without the prairie dog, the group of animals that eat them would
lose a large source of their diet, and the animals that get eaten by the prairie dog would start to
overpopulate. Animals would lose home that the prairie dogs dig, and the soil would be as aerated and

Salvation Military Research Paper
There are many opportunities to give back to people every day. It could be the time you give someone
or something they need to sustain them, and keep them going. The fundamentals of giving back are
often seen through charity work or even so much as donating a few items of clothing. I, however,
decided to devote my time to feeding the homeless through the Salvation Army. One day, while sitting
in church listening to our Pastor give a sermon about helping others I felt something inside me that
made me talk to my friend and her husband about something we could do to help others. While doing
our research we found out that The Salvation Army can only accommodate a certain amount of people
and because of this, many people lie under bridges, on benches around town, and in or near abandoned
buildings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

other things to distribute to the homeless around town. These items were essentials that were
desperately needed by these people, and the money we raised in order to get these items went a long
way. We were very nervous about just walking up to people and passing these things out, the idea of a
stranger coming up to you and handing you items is a scary thought in itself, but being on the other
end is even scarier because you don t know how others will react. But we did it. and found that they
were very grateful for things we bought and were very thankful that we took the time out of our day to

Bourdieu s Theory of Cultural Capital
Bourdieu s theory of cultural capital has been extremely influential, and has garnered a great deal of
literature, both theoretical and empirical. Like Marx, Bourdieu posited that capital was the foundation
of social life and dictated people s position within the social hierarchy (Bourdieu 1986). According to
Bourdieu, the more capital one possesses, the more prestigious a position one occupies in social life
(Bourdieu 1986). In addition to that, Bourdieu extended Marx s idea of capital beyond the economic
and into cultural symbolism (Bourdieu 1986). Bourdieu s concept of cultural capital that refers to the
collection of symbolic elements (e.g. skills, tastes, clothing) one acquires through being part of a
particular social niche and his concept of habitus that refers to the physical manifestation of cultural
capital owned by individuals due to life experiences are his major influential concepts that are very
useful in deconstructing power in development and social change processes. However it must be
recognized that these concepts also propagate social inequalities at the same time. This essay will
closely examine his concepts of capital that comes in three forms embodied, objectified, and
institutionalised, and habitus in the fields of education and stratification have made of it. Bourdieu s
work will be analysed in the context both of the debate on class inequalities in educational attainment
and of class reproduction in advanced capitalist societies. An important

The Culture Of Popular Culture
Studying popular culture reveals the culture of society at the time. Further, popular culture reveals the
underlying belief, power structures, and philosophical and moral frame of the society that produces
those cultural products. Studying popular culture gives us an accessible vehicle through which to
explore philosophical and moral questions, as well as the functioning of society on a smaller scale (fan
based, consumption), through which we can make larger assumptions. Studies of popular culture may
be broad based or very specific, depending on who is conducting the studies. Popular culture includes
cultural artifacts, such as books, films, music genre, as well as how the culture is being marketed and
the market that is being targeted.
One such popular culture was riot grrrl... which occurred during the early 90s. The main objective of
this movement was to make feminism cool again and to get more young girls involved. Riott Grrrl

Native Americans In Eastern Woodlands
In the Eastern Woodlands, the native Iroquoian people populated the area, who set fires twice a year to
clear away underbrush to allow an easier hunting season. In addition, they had no universal style of
government, with many organized into chiefdoms. Near The Great Lakes, there were several different
types of natives collectively called the Anishinaabe. Many Europeans found that the Anishinaabe had
a vast social landscape, with the peoples of the Ottawas, Ojibwas, and Potawatomis. Additionally,
these people would use canoes to travel across the Great Lakes. Towards the west in the Great Plains,
the Comanches were formidable people of the vast territory. They rode on horseback to dominate their
enemies, and would mainly hunt Bison. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spain, Portugal, and France sought to convert natives to the Roman Catholic Church, while England
and the Netherlands believed that Catholicism was corrupt, and attempted to build support for the

East Africa and India. While their most of their goods were seen as inferior, da Gama returned with

The Iranian Revolution
Longevity and positive outcomes are what determine whether a revolution is successful or not. This is
not the case for Iran. Since the revolution, Iran has been economically, politically, and socially
unstable. With an economy dependent on oil, a natural source whose production is unpredictable,
stability is simply unattainable. With the same leader for a long period of time, not much can change
politically. Oppositions and revolts can happen and disrupt the social lives of Iranian citizens.
Although the Iranian Revolution was politically successful by maintaining an Islamic Republic, the
revolution was unsuccessful because of the severe economic failure it was in the long term and the
social unrest it still has today.
The revolution of 1979 marked the beginning of Iran s economic decay and even further economic
instability. Before the revolution, Iran had one of the Middle East s most advanced economies.
Petroleum exports, which make up about 85 percent of government revenues, have decreased over the
years after the revolution (Trading Economics). In fact, petroleum exports declined to 1.5 million
barrels per day in 2012 from 2.5 million barrels per day in 2011 (Trading Economics). The Iranian
government s dependence on oil revenues has resulted in persistent financial instability. Because of
this financial instability, Iran s inflation rate was greatly affected. The inflation rate is the rate of
change of prices calculated on a monthly or annual basis. In January 2014,

A very popular technique used in propaganda is plain folk. This is a technique when advertising makes
the average American citizen feel he can relate to the people in the advertisement. For instance, an
advertisement in Men s Health depicted a family camping trip with a honorable father smoking while
singing around a campfire to his kids. Also, an additional promotion that was found in this magazine
was a healthy in shape man smoking. This is an unrealistic situation for healthy and well respected
fathers. Another way people are shielded from the negative reality of tobacco use is through
celebrities. This is called testimonial techniques of propaganda. Testimonial technique is an extremely
important and controversial method. This technique is when a celebrity or notorious person gimmicks
people into the product by making it seem better because they use it or promote it. One example of
this is Emmit Smith using chewing tobacco. His slogan, Pinch between your cheek and gums , is
catchy and appealing to football fans. This is a extremely unhealthy promotion for young athletes. The
catch with a testimonial technique is it might appear as though the celebrity enjoys a product when in
reality he/she has never touched it.
The last technique of propaganda is Bandwagon. The bandwagon technique makes people feel like
they should go along with the crowd. This technique usually succeeds because most people have a

disagreement between treasure hunters and archaeologists regarding who has the right to recover
artifacts from these underwater sites. This conflict is causing people to consider the positive and
negative aspects of both sides of the issue. The documentary, Deep Sea Treasure Hunters Versus
Archaeologists, shows the importance of archaeology for understanding the past and settles the debate
between the treasure hunters and archaeologists. This film suggests that a more efficient system could

This viewpoint is the archaeologists who are siding with the treasure hunters in the debate. An
example of one of these people would be an archaeologist who actually once worked with the treasure
hunter, Fisher. He states that the treasure hunters have an equal or higher value of knowledge of the
subject of maritime archaeology. A solid point he makes in his argument is that he had three labs and
more archaeologists on his time than any governmental agency at the time. He also states that due to
the lack of funding for the archaeologists, treasure hunters are sometimes the ones to rely on to
excavate the underwater sites. His final point is that an excavation is a destructive process no matter
who is working on the site. Knowing this side of the argument, it must be asked if the real damage
here is the potential for profit. The potential profit, with inferior knowledge of the subject, is likely the
reason treasure hunters would cause more damage. A lack in knowledge to find significance in
artifacts in relation to others in the archaeological record could potentially give false information on

Zootopia Analysis
Would you consider women, immigrants, minority groups, and other second class citizens to have yet
been accepted as equal members of American society? Although the friction between the dominant
group and minority groups has diminished, discrimination continues to exist. Whether it be ignorance,
fear, or plain bigotry, rejection and feelings of disgust for these second class people emerge. Like the
movie, Zootopia, demonstrates, prejudistic individuals set psychological barriers between themselves
and those considered menacing, undesirable, or lacking the appropriate appearance in a particular
society. There are several different ways to digest and interpret the multiple messages that can be
extracted from the movie. However, the most significant of the possible arguments is the addressal of
the divisive and regressive mentalities the people in American society currently have and live
according to.
The implementation of gender role stereotypes was the first indication of the regressive like thinking
the movie later emphasizes. Throughout the entirety of the film, repetitive scenes, which demonstrate
the protagonist, Judy Hopps, as determined yet underappreciated, stress on the notion of women being
stigmatized because of their ascribed social status. For instance, during the initial scenes, Judy
performs a childish play alongside her peers. Although childish, the moral of the play suggests that
anyone, regardless of who you are, can become whom they aspire to be through diligence and self
confidence. While the males in the play were applauded for aspiring to become either an actuary or an
astronaut someday, Judy was ridiculed for sharing her ambitious dream of becoming a police officer.
Because of her questionable skills and having the scrawny physique a women typically has, agents of
society, namely her parents and acquaintances, oppressed her undaunting will for success.
Judy progressed and realized her dream. Nevertheless, the more people Judy encountered, the more
humiliation she received. In their eyes, Judy was unfit to meet the standards the masculine occupation
demanded of. Her unjust path to success clearly correlates to the path many women are currently
enduring. It s that injustice that obstructs

Rectus Femoris
The rectus femoris is one of the four muscles in the quadriceps group of the body and is located in the
anterior aspect of the thigh. As a bi articular structure that crosses both the hip and knee joints, it
functions to actively flex the hip and extend the knee. Thus when stretched, the rectus femoris may
constrain concurrent hip extension and knee flexion. However, if the rectus femoris were to constrain
neither of the two actions, the length of the muscle is established as passively sufficient. The two tests
that give answer to whether the rectus femoris muscle is passively sufficient is based upon the
comparisons between hip extension with knee flexed vs. extended, and/or knee flexion with hip flexed

No Country For Old Men And The Road
Cormac McCarthy is one America s most revered and influential authors of the 20th and 21st century.
Winning the Pulitzer Prize for literature and many other literary accolades, McCarthy took the world
by storm with his gritty realism and sparse use of literature. His success eventually lead to the movie
adaptations of two of his most praised novels, No Country for Old Men and The Road. These two
works displayed McCarthy s style and plot structure very well, even though his writing style is

Considering the one of the main themes is about the end of humanity both physically and
psychologically, the narrative is wrought with brutality, hardships, and terror. For the entire duration
of the novel and movie, the father has accepted the idea that he would kill the son to save him from
capture if they were captured by cannibal men. In one portion of the novel, the protagonist come
across a house with a basement room filled with naked people, male and female, all trying to hide,
shielding their faces with their hands (110). They run out off the house seeing that there is a group of
cannibals approaching. In the film, the father and son are trapped in the house with the cannibals who
are unaware of their presence. Fearing that they would be captured and tortured to death, the father
ends up pressing the gun in the son s head and cocking it when he is almost certain that they would be
found. This is where the movie shows cinema s advantage over print. Possibly the bleakest scene in
the movie is when this occurs because the raw emotion the father and son exhibit on screen when they
are coming to terms with the worse possible outcome is both gut wrenching and unmatched by
McCarthy s writing. The novel, however, is overall much more grim and depressing due to scenes that
were cut out in the movie version. For example, there is a point in the book where the protagonists
witness a woman giving birth only to find a charred human

The Great Man Is A Great Woman
There is a saying that goes Behind a great man is a great women . Maybe there was a great woman
behind Abraham Lincoln who told him what decisions to take. Someone who was there to support his
actions and give him feedback. Mary Todd Lincoln wasn t always a Lincoln, her maiden name was
Mary Ann Todd otherwise known as Molly . She was born in Lexington, Kentucky in the date of
December 13, 1818. Mary s hometown: Lexington was surprisingly founded by her family. She was
the daughter of Robert Smith Todd and Elizabeth Ann Todd. She had two brothers and two sisters. She
was born into a wealthy family who didn t have to suffer and gave her the basic resources she needed
growing up (Mary Ann Lincoln (Todd), www.Geni.com). Although, at the age of six, her mother
Elizabeth passed away and afterwards her father decided that it was time to re marry. Other than this,
her infancy was pretty set up to a good start, because she had a good educational career. She even had
a private education throughout her life and attended the Aristocracy of Lexington (Mary Todd Lincoln,
Whitehouse.gov). As a child, Mary was always lively and impulsive with the way she acted and the
decisions she made. Even her parents and friends recognized this. Still, when she grew up, she kept
her personality the same and this brought both fortune and misfortune. While still in her educational
steps, she overachieved in arts and also in cultural studies. As a result, she gained a genuine interest in
politics.

Asian Americans Academic Success
School Attendance and Family Expectations Among Asian Americans Race, gender and education are
status determinants in today s society. Asian Americans academic success comes from a combination
of helpful parents, a motivation to succeed, a supportive academic space, a supportive community and
economic resources. In this paper, I will argue that Asian Americans attend college due to their
cultural roots and familial expectations. Along the way to success are some hardships like stereotypes,
gender differences and economic difficulties, but there is also prosperity in means of cultural and
familial involvement. Compared to other racial or ethnic backgrounds, hard work and education are
frequently viewed as being factors that all Asian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teachers were given a list of these students. Not knowing the students were chosen at random, the
researchers called this the Pygmalion Effect, or a self fulfilling expectation. In the first and second
grade the student s grades improved dramatically and 47 percent of those students gained 20 points on
an IQ test they took. Since the teachers had higher expectations for these students, this made the
students feel more capable of doing things (Kristof, 2015). Stereotypes have a lot to do with the
effects of an individual s success or a group s success. The article uses a stereotype that Asian
Americans are supposed to be good at math, and even though some can live up to that expectation,
troubles are created for those who cannot live up to that expectation. This stereotype makes Asian
Americans less focused on being personally creative and seems more focused on memorization,
sticking to the book and following equations. According to a TED Talk starring Chimamanda Ngozi
Adichie, the danger of a single story is explained. The danger of a single story is a critical
misunderstanding of a certain culture, or a person. Adichie reminds the listeners that we must tell our
own stories that are about our own personal experiences because stereotypes are incomplete. She
explains how single stories rob people of dignity and they emphasize how people are different rather
than similar. When we reject the single story,

Sewing Argument Analysis
Such a large number of individuals have composed requesting that how I oversee get a stitch made a
week.
So here s my main ten insights on how I complete coverlets!
1. I have a room only to sew, ideal beside the kitchen and far from
the rooms. I can dash in there and sew a couple creases at whatever point I find
(truly) a moment. I bound a knit amid the ads on a motion picture on
Sunday night the TV was on in the kitchen, so I knew when to backtrack.
2. Put your sewing pushing on the pressing board toward the end of every sewing
session, close by your garments pressing. When you press some garments, get
you re sewing squeezing done as well.
3. Put a little table by your most loved agreeable seat and ALWAYS
have some hand sewing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wipe the lighten out of your sewing machine
after each stitch.
10. Take care of your examples. The little zip bolt pack most examples come in
are from time to time sufficiently expansive to keep everything in after you have opened it up and
pored over it, and never sufficiently enormous to hold every one of the formats and little
scraps of paper you include when it is an applique design. Put the example in
an extensive zip bolt pack and keep it all together, as opposed to attempting to crush
everything back in the first pack (believe me it s sufficiently hard for me to fit
my eager for paper designs in the first pack before you get it, not to mention
after you have opened it up! ). On the off chance that you can t fit every one of the odds and ends
clinched you may forget a few and after that that squanders time in searching for
them

Aside from the sometimes unresolvable loneliness and almost always glued attention, the constant comparison with the kids next door can be supremely annoying. The phrase stands for those children of several close friends of your mom or literally just the kids who live next door. For me, there s always been a girl like that since I was five and things can be a little overwhelming when she is also a competitive Leo (star sign). If we are making a comparison, women obviously have a better appreciation for the word frenemy, judging from the frequency they use it. After all, envy is what determines the essence of frenemy, and is mainly the reason that drives people apart. Evolutionary psychology suggests that women are harder to be associative thinker while man thinks more hierarchically. This makes women better at raising children, but also makes them more easily jealous, intimated and insecure. The characterization of frenemy in a way gave women a relatively healthy outlet by accepting the person as is and avoiding more catfights. Aside from the common connotation, frenemy has much more positive interpretation: If they weren t enemy, they would have been friend. This marks respect for your competitor as one who also has great talents and capability. It is the courage and honesty to admit that because of him you have more incentives to improve. Blind and completely oblivious of who and what surrounded me, all I knew was that I was being held by a woman tight in her arms. Even as young as being an infant, I knew she was the one, the one who would have impacted my life the most. A mother nurtures, parents, and advise their children so they can become a better individual in the community and the world today. My role model, my best friend, my mother. Mom has always been the one I have looked up to since the day I first laid in her arms. She was not rich nor famous or had invented anything that would change the world. She just went to work day in and day out to support us. She has done everything she could do to become the successful women she is today, I honestly have to say she is the strongest and most independent women I have ever met. She speaks out words as if she was the first lady of the United States. The Crusades were military campaigns fought between the Christians and the Muslims, and their justification was to obtain control of Jerusalem: the Holy Land. The impact of the Crusades can still be seen today, as they were an important factor in the modernization of Western Europe s civilization. The Crusades affected many parts of the world, including the people who fought in these battles and the others who were at home. This was more sophisticated than the Europeans way of amputating, which was to hack off the limb while holding down the patient, with no drugs to kill the pain. The Muslim way of performing surgery was quickly adopted by the Europeans after the Crusades. Before the wars, Christians were known for being dirty and relatively smelly. Tourists go to Hawaii for sunshine and beaches, and to Yellowstone to experience the hot springs and wonders of nature. Hawaii and Yellowstone may have differences, but what many people don t know is that they are alike in numerous ways. Both Hawaii and Yellowstone were created by hotspot. A difference is that the Islands of Hawaii were created over thousands of years because of a plate that is moving over a hotspot, and every once and awhile magma from the hotspot pushes up and creates a volcano. A similarity is that both Yellowstone and Hawaii are located in the middle of a plate, but Hawaii is located on the Pacific plate where as Yellowstone is located on the North American plate. Another reason they are different is that they have different crusts. Hawaii has an oceanic crust which is thinner than continental crust, which is what Yellowstone has. A further example of how they are similar is that they are both located above a hotspot. A hotspot is an area of volcanic activity. Hawaii and Yellowstone are both major vacation destinations; they may seem completely different, but they are actually quite similar. A difference between them is that people go to Hawaii to see the volcanoes and go to Yellowstone to see Old Faithful and hot springs. Although many people may think this is a difference, it is actually a similarity because all of these things are volcanic activity caused by hotspots. Hotspots lie underneath both Yellowstone and Hawaii, but they cause different geological activity in both places. However, as the novel progresses, Dickens makes Carton s use of ego transition from subconscious to conscious, as a result of his relationship with Lucie and his deeper commitment to societal values. Search For The Right Way Of Life In Herman Hesse s Siddhartha Siddhartha Lap Topic #6 By: Jose Guerra Due: 11/30/2017 Jose Guerra 11/30/17 We go on day by day in search for the right way of life, but whose right is it to tell us how we live? Who is to tell us right from wrong? In many cultures, religion dictates what people perceive to be moral and not. Although religion is accepted into the lifestyle of many, what happens to those that do not find fulfillment in the words of the people preaching these beliefs? In the book Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, the life of the protagonist named Siddhartha is expressed through his issues to find satisfaction in teachings. He didn t find fulfillment in the words of others, not of his father, not the oldest samana, not even the Sublime One(the Buddha). The novel takes you through every step of his life and at the end of the book there is an ironic message. The message contradicts everything he believed that was going to aid him on this journey to Nirvana which surprises the readers. The novel begins in the early stages of Siddhartha s life. He was a brahmin s son which meant he was in an upper class compared to most. As a young man he had everything, he had the life that many dreamed. His life was that of someone that was easily envied, but in reality he wasn t living the perfect life. Like Marx, Bourdieu posited that capital was the foundation of social life and dictated people s position within the social hierarchy (Bourdieu 1986). According to Bourdieu, the more capital one possesses, the more prestigious a position one occupies in social life (Bourdieu 1986). In addition to that, Bourdieu extended Marx s idea of capital beyond the economic and into cultural symbolism (Bourdieu 1986). Bourdieu s concept of cultural capital that refers to the collection of symbolic elements (e.g. skills, tastes, clothing) one acquires through being part of a particular social niche and his concept of habitus that refers to the physical manifestation of cultural capital owned by individuals due to life experiences are his major influential concepts that are very useful in deconstructing power in development and social change processes. Further, popular culture reveals the underlying belief, power structures, and philosophical and moral frame of the society that produces those cultural products. Studying popular culture gives us an accessible vehicle through which to explore philosophical and moral questions, as well as the functioning of society on a smaller scale (fan based, consumption), through which we can make larger assumptions. Studies of popular culture may be broad based or very specific, depending on who is conducting the studies. Popular culture includes cultural artifacts, such as books, films, music genre, as well as how the culture is being marketed and the market that is being targeted. One such popular culture was riot grrrl... which occurred during the early 90s. The main objective of this movement was to make feminism cool again and to get more young girls involved. In addition, they had no universal style of government, with many organized into chiefdoms. Near The Great Lakes, there were several different types of natives collectively called the Anishinaabe. Many Europeans found that the Anishinaabe had a vast social landscape, with the peoples of the Ottawas, Ojibwas, and Potawatomis. • 30. The Iranian Revolution Longevity and positive outcomes are what determine whether a revolution is successful or not. This is not the case for Iran. Since the revolution, Iran has been economically, politically, and socially unstable. With an economy dependent on oil, a natural source whose production is unpredictable, stability is simply unattainable. With the same leader for a long period of time, not much can change politically. Oppositions and revolts can happen and disrupt the social lives of Iranian citizens. Although the Iranian Revolution was politically successful by maintaining an Islamic Republic, the revolution was unsuccessful because of the severe economic failure it was in the long term and the social unrest it still has today. The revolution of 1979 marked the beginning of Iran s economic decay and even further economic instability. Before the revolution, Iran had one of the Middle East s most advanced economies. Petroleum exports, which make up about 85 percent of government revenues, have decreased over the years after the revolution (Trading Economics). In fact, petroleum exports declined to 1.5 million barrels per day in 2012 from 2.5 million barrels per day in 2011 (Trading Economics). The Iranian government s dependence on oil revenues has resulted in persistent financial instability. Because of this financial instability, Iran s inflation rate was greatly affected. A very popular technique used in propaganda is plain folk. This is a technique when advertising makes the average American citizen feel he can relate to the people in the advertisement. For instance, an advertisement in Men s Health depicted a family camping trip with a honorable father smoking while singing around a campfire to his kids. Also, an additional promotion that was found in this magazine was a healthy in shape man smoking. This is an unrealistic situation for healthy and well respected fathers. Another way people are shielded from the negative reality of tobacco use is through celebrities. This is called testimonial techniques of propaganda. Testimonial technique is an extremely important and controversial method. This technique is when a celebrity or notorious person gimmicks people into the product by making it seem better because they use it or promote it. One example of this is Emmit Smith using chewing tobacco. His slogan, Pinch between your cheek and gums , is catchy and appealing to football fans. This is a extremely unhealthy promotion for young athletes. The catch with a testimonial technique is it might appear as though the celebrity enjoys a product when in reality he/she has never touched it. The last technique of propaganda is Bandwagon. The documentary, Deep Sea Treasure Hunters Versus Archaeologists, shows the importance of archaeology for understanding the past and settles the debate between the treasure hunters and archaeologists. An example of one of these people would be an archaeologist who actually once worked with the treasure hunter, Fisher. He states that the treasure hunters have an equal or higher value of knowledge of the subject of maritime archaeology. A solid point he makes in his argument is that he had three labs and more archaeologists on his time than any governmental agency at the time. He also states that due to the lack of funding for the archaeologists, treasure hunters are sometimes the ones to rely on to excavate the underwater sites. His final point is that an excavation is a destructive process no matter who is working on the site. Knowing this side of the argument, it must be asked if the real damage here is the potential for profit. Although the friction between the dominant group and minority groups has diminished, discrimination continues to exist. Whether it be ignorance, fear, or plain bigotry, rejection and feelings of disgust for these second class people emerge. Like the movie, Zootopia, demonstrates, prejudistic individuals set psychological barriers between themselves and those considered menacing, undesirable, or lacking the appropriate appearance in a particular society. There are several different ways to digest and interpret the multiple messages that can be extracted from the movie. However, the most significant of the possible arguments is the addressal of the divisive and regressive mentalities the people in American society currently have and live according to. The implementation of gender role stereotypes was the first indication of the regressive like thinking the movie later emphasizes. Throughout the entirety of the film, repetitive scenes, which demonstrate the protagonist, Judy Hopps, as determined yet underappreciated, stress on the notion of women being stigmatized because of their ascribed social status. For instance, during the initial scenes, Judy performs a childish play alongside her peers. Although childish, the moral of the play suggests that anyone, regardless of who you are, can become whom they aspire to be through diligence and self confidence. While the males in the play were applauded for aspiring to become either an actuary or an astronaut someday, Judy was ridiculed for sharing her ambitious dream of becoming a police officer. Because of her questionable skills and having the scrawny physique a women typically has, agents of society, namely her parents and acquaintances, oppressed her undaunting will for success. Judy progressed and realized her dream. Nevertheless, the more people Judy encountered, the more humiliation she received. In their eyes, Judy was unfit to meet the standards the masculine occupation demanded of. Her unjust path to success clearly correlates to the path many women are currently enduring. However, if the rectus femoris were to constrain neither of the two actions, the length of the muscle is established as passively sufficient. In one portion of the novel, the protagonist come across a house with a basement room filled with naked people, male and female, all trying to hide, shielding their faces with their hands (110). They run out off the house seeing that there is a group of cannibals approaching. In the film, the father and son are trapped in the house with the cannibals who are unaware of their presence. Fearing that they would be captured and tortured to death, the father ends up pressing the gun in the son s head and cocking it when he is almost certain that they would be found. This is where the movie shows cinema s advantage over print. Possibly the bleakest scene in the movie is when this occurs because the raw emotion the father and son exhibit on screen when they are coming to terms with the worse possible outcome is both gut wrenching and unmatched by McCarthy s writing.
