What Happens During The Flame Test
1. Identify each of the unknown samples(use specific data to justify your answers for A and B).
Unknown A was NaCI because when looking at this unknown solutions flame and NaCI s flame they
both had this very strong orange color when they were burning they both looked very similar. The
photons seemed to emit the same light. Unknown B was SrCI2 because once against they both showed
the very strong red flame. When looking at the different flames one can conclude that these two
flames were very similar. The photons seemed to emit the same amount of light and this is why these
two looked the same. Unknown Mixture was SrCI2 and CuCI2 because looking at the different flames
of all the salt solutions the two flames that had the same colors as the unknown mixture did. The color
of a vibrant red was from the SrCI2 and the Green blue colors came from the CuCI2. Since the ...

3. The metallic atoms change from a liquid state to a gas state during the flame test. Is this a physical
or a chemical change? Explain. This is a chemical change because a new color is created and it is
exciting the electrons. Burning is a chemical reaction because there is a new substance being created.
There is also a color change and that is another way to tell that it was a chemical reaction. A new
substance was made this is why it was a chemical change. If you take ice for example and melt it turns
into a liquid. This is not a chemical change because it is still water just in a different form nothing new
is created. Unlike when the salt solutions are burned and something totally new is created/
4. Why does the flame color change back to orange, after the metallic solution has been turned
completely into a gas

German Days
Tina Stewart Brakebill s From German Days to 100 Percent Americanism : McLean County, Illinois
1913 1918: German Americans, World War One, and One Community s Reaction discusses how
mainstream American sentiment negatively shifted in regards to German Americans during WWI.
Brakebill accomplishes this task by focusing her argument on the local level of McLean County, IL,
the county with the second highest population of German Americans during this time. The United
States government and the media fabricated national fear of German conspiracy to subvert the US war
effort. Which led to nationwide government supported conspiracy to subversion and removal of all

A Brief Look at Robert Browning
An English poet named Robert Browning who was born on May 7, 1812 in England. Robert
Browning had extremely dramatic monologues, which later in life portrayed him as one of the best
Victorian poets in the world. His father who worked as a bank clerk and mother who was a pianist,
both collected books and pictures. Porphyria s Lover and Soliloquy of the Spanish Cloister are one of
his best examples expressing his dramatic monologues and verses.
At the age of fourteen Robert Browning already knew French, Greek, Italian, and Latin, four of the
major language spoken in today s world. Later in life Robert Browning became and atheist and
vegetarian following the famous romantic poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley. Browning never showed any
enthusiasm toward school or school life. He later dropped out of school and studied books in his dad s
library, where he later discovered his true love for poetry, and wanting to become a writer. Learning
how to be very musical from his mother helped him composes a few songs that his dad sponsored.
Robert never listened to his parent s advice and them wanting him to follow a formal and regular life
and job, denying their wishes Robert became the poet he always wanted to be. Browning lived at
home until the age of 34 depending on his mother and father to support him, until he later married. In
1833, Robert Browning published his first major work which he did with nobody knowing it was
called Pauline.

The Relationship Between Katherine and Bianca in The...
The Relationship Between Katherine and Bianca in The Taming of the Shrew
William Shakespeare is considered the greatest playwright of all time. His gift for developing
characters is one major aspect that accounts for this lofty acknowledgement. Shakespeare created
various characters from drunks and fools to kings and generals. The characters are so human and so
real that the audience can see aspects of their own personalities represented on stage for better or
worse. Inadvertently, Shakespeare s ability to characterize any type of person demonstrates his holistic
education and knowledge of everything from military strategy and open sea sailing to music and
religion. As a result of Shakespeare s true to life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, in a general sense, the common rivalry between siblings is also often manifested in
physical violence. In fact, one contemporary study collaborates the motivation sibling rivalry before
reporting that 82 percent of all families with more than one child reported that siblings had carried out
some form of physical violence amongst themselves (Newman 120). This is portrayed in a specific
sense in the play in Act II, scene I, wherein the cruel Katherine has bound Bianca s hands and is
questioning her about the suitor she favors in Baptista s home. There, when Bianca promises
Katherine that she will plead Katherine s case to Hortensio, Katherine surmises that Biance likes
Gremio. However, when Biance laughs at Katherine s idea, as in so many contemporary families, the
older sister hits her sibling.
Finally, at the end of the story, a switching of personalities occurs, as the reader becomes aware that
there is more to the girls relationship than initially appears. A close introspection actually reveals
neither the interpretation of Katherine, the shrew, as an irritable and hateful woman, nor Bianca, the
universally sweet daughter with a mild

Columbine Documentary Techniques
The Documentary Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore produced in 2002 focuses on American
gun culture and how impacting it is to not only America but also the world. Moore uses this
documentary as a ploy to persuade viewers of his viewpoint that gun laws should be outlawed in
America by using various techniques such as selection of detail, audio, visuals and facts and statistics.
. It was produced three years after the Columbine school shooting in 1999 and this adds to his
argument. Throughout the documentary different audio is used to appeal to the viewer s emotions in
order for them to be convinced of Moore s viewpoint. An example of this is the wonderful world
sequence which is a montage of horrifying pictures displayed with the positive and upbeat song What
a wonderful world being played in the background. This alone creates a deep irony in the audio and

this is the fact that the UN estimates 500,000 Iraqi children die from bombing and sanctions. This fact
itself is devastating and gets the viewer to think about how violent American culture is leading them to
side with Moore. In addition, it comes from a trusted source the UN adding to the viewer s trust of this

Animal Testing and Why It Should Continue Jeremy Bentham once said, The question is not, Can they
reason? nor, Can they talk? but Can they suffer? Animal testing is becoming a conflict right now and I
believe that Animal testing should be stopped because it is cruel and inhuman, Alternative testing
technologies exist, the lack of reliability, and it is expensive. Another quote once said was by Martin
Luther King Jr stating Never, never be afraid to do what s right, especially if the well being of a
person or animal is at stake That quote is saying why do wrong when right can be done, especially
when people and animals are involved. Animals have feelings and enjoy life as much as humans do so
keeping them in captivity and testing drugs on them is cruel and inhuman. It is understandable that
animal testing is helpful, and we can t test drugs on humans, but when alternative testing options are
available there is no reason to keep animals in captivity and test drug, harm, and kill them. Center for
Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) is a program that was designed to begin vitro testing. This
program was established by Johns Hopkins. The CAAT was created in 1988 and funded by more than
70 corporations (Hunter). These corporations funded this program to change animal testing a find

Business Student: Daphne Westerlaken van Westen Contact information:
daphne.van.westen@fluor.com University: Webster University Leiden Instructor: Arthur De La Loza
2Abstract There is a direct correlation between corporate finance performance and women in
leadership roles. The number of female college graduates and overall percentage of females in the
workforce is increasing. Therefore the pipeline of women has greatly increased and companies have to
capitalize on this to ensure these companies are going to retain, attract and develop this pool of talent.

One of the reasons that
5qualified women are not in that pool, is because there are not visible to companies. Therefore
companies and also women need to take actions like: 1. Develop and introduce mentoring programs
(pairing senior women with company chairmen as mentors) 2. Build up systematically contacts
(networking inside and outside the company) 3. Women have to inform company bosses of the
progress in their developments 4. Chief executives have to promote women to their executive
committees Regulatory back up, like quotas, are required, because some men over 60 think that
suitable females don t exist because they have never had women as their peers, and they think women
can t take the pressure involved in serving on a board. Furthermore, these quotas forces companies to
develop strategies and programs to retain, attract and develop high qualified women, who can enter
the boardroom. But there is also a down side of quotas. Companies have to avoid pushing too low
qualified women into boardrooms only to meet these quotas. This will harm the qualified women
more than the quotas will help. Work life Balance With women now making up almost half of the
labor force in the Unit States and Europe, they are increasingly juggling work with care giving
responsibilities at home. The solution for this dilemma is work flexibility and scheduling. There are
several solutions and possibilities to increase the work life balance: 1. Employees working at home.

Google Books and the Controversy
Google Books and the Controversy
The progress in relation to Google books has of late sparked a cause for closer look in relation to the
issue. All these problems have emanated from the argument by Google in the year 2005, that the
company would start a scanning process on books and digitalize them in order to create a web based
library for the world. By the year 2011, Google had gone ahead and rolled out this plan working with
various partners in the scanning certain books and availing them online. Google books have faced
controversy because of various issues such as copyright infringement. As pertains to copyright
infringement, there has been raging debate that Google was violating the provision by scanning
contents of books whose authors had not died in the past 70 years (Baksik 405).
There have also been issues regarding censorship and invasion of privacy, which probe a closer look
into this issue. Economic implications have also been among the important mention as pertain to
Google books with incisive looks also essential to help gather all the essential details. Controversy has
also stemmed in the basis of agreements, which seems to give Google an upper hand in the arguments,
an issue which is believed to be unfair to other players in the agreements. Thus speaking, it can
broadly be accepted that there are serious issues pertaining Google books that have to be resolved if
fairness is to be realized.

Language In Their Eyes Were Watching God
Their Eyes Were Watching God, a Unique American Narrative
Their Eyes Were Watching God, a 1937 novel by influential Harlem Renaissance writer Zora Neale
Hurston, examines the historical, cultural, and social foundations of African American life by
following the life of an African American woman in the US South. In her examination of these
foundations, Hurston builds validity and affirmation for black Southern culture by beautifully
portraying the life of the Black Southern community in the Antebellum period, by adopting a
distinctly African American dialect and colloquial Black folk speech, and by using a narrative inside
the novel to construct and narrativize the African American identity.
Based on African American folk traditions of the South, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Roman Culture And Western Civilization
As the Romans held on to Greek culture so eagerly it quickly became the foundation of Roman
culture. Roman forms of architecture evolved mostly from reshaping Greek models, but clearly stands
apart from its ancestors. The Romans were quick to adopt new techniques in construction; new use of
materials, and new architectural structures. The Romans made innovations to fully fulfill the practical
needs for the society as a whole. Among these architectural changes basilicas, temples, amphitheaters,
bridges and aqueducts, and residential blocks can be found engrained in Roman culture as it positively
impacted the lives of Romans. These inventions were paid for, organized, and spread around by a state
which fully supported the Roman Empire. The Romans influence in monumental architecture as well
as many other aspects of Western life remains clearly visible today as it did back then. Western
civilization presently compromises Western Europe and North America and are believed to have
derived from the influence of cultures found in the Roman Empire. In this research essay, I will
discuss and contrast Roman culture to Western Civilization as well as emphasizing on the influences
provided by the Roman Empire that are still prominent today. First, What is architecture and why is it
crucial to the rise of the Roman Empire?Architecture is the art or practice of designing and building
structures (Webster). Without its architecture, Rome wouldn t have been such a huge influence across

East Stroudsburg s Speech And Hearing Center
On Thursday, December 3rd, 2015 at 2:00 PM I observed an hour and forty five minute secession at
East Stroudsburg s Speech and Hearing Center. East Stroudsburg s Speech and Hearing Center is
located on campus, in the town of East Stroudsburg PA, on the second floor of Monroe (building). The
clinic at ESU was very clean and organized. It had multiple therapy and diagnostic rooms that were set
up nicely and welcoming for a client. The types of population seen at the ESU s clinic range from any
age for speech therapy or audiological visits. The clinical audiologist I observed was Susan Dillmuth
Miller Au.D., CCC A, FAAA.. The secession started at 2:00 PM, and began in the audiology room
where there is the main therapy room and then two sound treated rooms separated by a glass window.
The sound treated rooms have been modified in a special way (double wall, incandescent lighting,
floor suspended etc.) which results in blocking out unwanted noise to allow for reliable testing results
(DeBonis and Donhue, 2008). Dr. Miller seated the patient in the main therapy room where she
introduced herself to the client and gave her an overview of what was going to be taking place during
the secession. The client I observed in junior high previously had Auditory Processing Disorder
(APD). The client s complaint was that it was sometimes difficult for her in class to listen and
understand. The client s visit was to get a check up to see if her ADP was still significant or got worse

Apply: Atoms are most stable when their outermost shell is full. If their outermost shell is not full,
atoms tend to gain, lose, or share electrons until the shell fills up. While doing this, atoms react and
form chemical bonds with other atoms.
Based on this, what can you infer about the reactivity of helium and neon? They are both noble gases
so they are very resistant to a chemical reaction and don t react to other elements.
11. Think and discuss: Select the PERIODIC TABLE tab, and look at the second row, or period, of the

Irony In The Rocking-Horse Winner
Winning Death
Titles should give insight into the stories they introduce; however, the use of irony disrupts this
connection. This disruption through use of irony occurs in both The Rocking Horse Winner and The
Lottery . The Rocking Horse Winner by D. H. Lawrence depicts a story about love, luck, lucre, where
a young boy tries to win the affection of his mother but ends up dying as a result. The Lottery by
Shirley Jackson portrays a story about a small town American community who takes part in an annual
lottery in which the winner gets stoned to death by her family and friends. In both stories the authors
use irony as a main literary device. Even though D. H. Lawrence and Shirley Jackson use different
methods of displaying irony in The Rocking Horse Winner and The Lottery , irony, itself, permeates

They use irony in both similar and dissimilar ways. In a similar way, both authors introduce irony
from the very beginning in their titles. The titles The Rocking Horse Winner and The Lottery both
imply that someone in the story wins something desirable. However, after reading the stories, one can
clearly see the irony; in both stories winning resulted in death. While both stories contain irony, each
story discloses the element of irony through different aspects of the story. In The Rocking Horse
Winner Lawrence reveals several examples of irony through his characters. Paul claims he has luck,
but his luck kills him. Hester considers herself unlucky when actually she has many blessings in life.
Whereas in The Lottery , Jackson weaves in most of her irony in her setting. She sets the story in
pleasant summer scene and in a small, American town, both of which contrast the horrific stoning at
the end. While dissimilar in their means of displaying irony, both The Rocking Horse Winner and The
Lottery clearly compare in their strong use of

Comparing Gilgamesh And Hebrew Bible
The two great floods in both the Gilgamesh story and in the Hebrew Bible have many similarities and
have many differences. In both stories the gods planned to destroy the Earth because they did not like
the way that people were behaving and felt that they should be punished for their actions. Like the
story of Noah in the Hebrew Bible, Utanapishtim was warned by a god that a great flood was coming
and that he should build a boat to protect himself, his family and the animals (81). Both gods
instructed the two men to build a boat in specific cubit measurements. After both floods they boats
landed on the mountains and birds were used to find land. Although these two great flood stories have
many similarities they also have a few differences. For instance, in the great flood in Genesis the
length of the boat was 300 cubits, the width was 50 cubits and the height was 30 cubits. In Gilgamesh,
the boat was ten dozen cubits in height and ten dozen cubits square (82). The two floods also did not
last the same amount of time; the flood in Genesis lasted for 40 days and 40 nights whereas the flood
in Gilgamesh only lasted for 6 days and 6 nights. The flood in Gilgamesh was not determined by just
one God like in the story of Noah, but was determined by a group ... Show more content on

not be punished lightly. If the humans honor the gods the way that they should then they will have

protected from harm. In ancient Middle East, it seems as though some people did have a strong
relationship with the gods, maybe because they heard the stories of the great flood and they did not
want that to happen to them. People probably think it s a good idea to be on God s side so they will be

Analysis Of Joyce Carol Oates Academy
Joyce Carol Oates grew up on a small farm, outside of the town Lockport, New York ( Joyce Carol
Oates Academy 1). She attended a small school that had one room in Lockport, and her family had
been hit by the Great Depression while she was growing up ( Joyce Carol Oates Academy 1). She first
began writing when she was 14 because her grandmother gave her her first typewriter, which put her
on her path to writing novels ( Joyce Carol Oates Academy 1). After high school, Oates went to
Syracuse University on a full ride scholarship and was valedictorian of her class (Moyer 1). After
graduating from Syracuse, Oates moved on to earn her master s degree from the University of
Wisconsin, and there she got married to Raymond J. Smith (Moyer 1). From there she went to teach at
the University of Detroit and the University of Windsor before finally reaching Princeton University
(Moyer 1). Oates taught in different universities with her first being the University of Detroit. During
her time in Detroit, Oates experienced many different riots and some say she had a front row seat for
the social turmoil engulfing America s cities ( Joyce Carol Oates Academy 1). Her experiences with
these riots and violent acts shifted into her writing, which created the violent realities that were in her

Political Emphasis Of George Orwell s Animal Farm
Chun Yue Chan
Prof. Godoy
Eng 101
December 14, 2017
Animals Farm s Political Emphasis George Orwell s Animal Farm, written in 1945, portrays animals
in imaginative human roles within a dystopian society. Orwell based Animal Farm on actual events
surrounding the Russian Revolution in 1917. Animal Farm s setting, Manor Farm, depicts old world
Russia of the early nineteenth century. The lead character, a white boar named Old Major, is reflective
of communist leader Vladimir I. Lenin. Old Major s counterpart, a pig named Snowball, portrays
Lenin s political crony Leon Trotsky. Another boar on Manor Farm, Napoleon, depicts the ruthless
Russian leader Joseph Stalin. The greedy lust for power of politicians is directly epitomized in Animal
Farm. Orwell utilizes anthropomorphism to personify characters, and political satire to examine the
failures of a dystopic world. Orwell s setting for Animal Farm, Manor Farm, is a depiction of old
world Russia from the era of monarchies. The owner of Manor Farm, Mr. Jones, is representative of
Tsar Nicholas II, who was the last Russian emperor. During Nicholas rule from 1894 1917 the Russian
people experienced terrible poverty and upheaval (Critical Essays The Russian Revolution). Old
Major, leader of Manor Farm s animals, described life as miserable, laborious, and short. We are born,
we are given just so much food as will keep the breath in our bodies, and those of us who are capable
of it are forced to work to the last atom of our strength (Orwell). Old Major s dialogue further stated
that no animal knew the meaning of happiness or freedom; life was misery and slavery. After all of
their usefulness was expended, they were slaughtered with gruesome acts of cruelty (Orwell). The
animals, like the Russian people under Nicholas, united to overthrow Mr. Jones, with promises of
much improved lives. However, what started as a socialist society with a vision towards Utopia, soon
started turning rancid (Neeraja). Perceived greed and excessive power were the reasons why Mr. Jones
was overthrown, and the renamed Animal Farm would suffer a similar destiny. Manor Farm s Old
Major is reflective of former Russian leader Vladimir I. Lenin. Old Major stood in such high regard

Cash Management Techniques and Methods of Short-Term...
Introduction
Proper cash management and efficient short term financing are both important and beneficial to a
company in order to maintain a competitive market share, which will increase profit potential and
shareholder value through rising stock. Cash management can be used to lower or eliminate idle cash
balances that do not earn revenue, using the freed up cash as sources for short term financing through
interest building securities. Short term financing allows a company to secure needed funds in order to
meet production needs and gain maximum profitability.
The first part of this paper will compare and contrast the techniques of cash management that are
available to a financial manager and his/her company. Cash management ... Show more content on

International cash management is also subject to changing interest rates and risk of currency
fluctuations, which may devalue the initial amount deposited. Marketable securities, although
probably the best technique of cash management, run the risk of increasing interest rates that will
result in a loss to the company. However, marketable securities are gaining popularity because of their
high returns. As one can expect, international cash management and marketable securities carry the
highest risk of the cash management techniques, but provide the best possible returns.
Description of the Methods of Short Term Financing
Trade credit occurs when a manufacturer or seller of goods gives a company advance credit in the
form of accounts payable. Bank Loans can be sought after to provide funds for the financing of
product line expansions and long term growth. Commercial paper, another method of short term
financing, is a certificate issued to the investor, by the company, to signify a debt that will be repaid.
Foreign borrowing allows a company to seek outside sources of financing at lower interest rates.
Receivables financing and inventory financing both allow a company to secure loans based on their
current asset value.
Compare and Contrast the Methods of Short Term Financing
While all the methods provide ample short term financing, trade

New Mexico Labor Department
1. To calculate multifactor productivity, we divided our inputs by total outputs. Beforehand, capital
costs as well as barrel costs were low. When we calculated the multifactor productivity for 2009, the
capital costs nearly doubled and the barrel costs also increased. This resulted in a minimal increase in
productivity. Since the productivity percentage has decreased, some of the suggestions for Zychol
Chemical Corporations would be to look for suppliers that can offer cheaper cost per barrel. Also re
examining the large increase in capital costs might provide some deeper insight into the drop of
productivity. 2. The productivity of making product decreased; however, the price of the product

Guys Like Gauguin
In the title of her poem Guys like Gauguin Marsh refers to Gauguin as a guy which is closely followed
by a sarcastic thanks Bougainville without capitalising the thanks. Together the techniques of
anaphora and informal language create a compounding effect, by referring to these colonisers and the
direct address towards Gauguin diminishing his achievements and many other celebrated European
discovers who have exploited foreign countries through invasion. marsh being a tuvaluan and samoan
descent, applies a dismissive yet hostile tone towards the idea highlighting the negative impact of
European control on pasifika ways of life and especially women in Tahiti. Her anger towards these
European civilizations is seen when she s talking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two combined techniques adds to the effect of how women from Tahiti are being over
sexuilised and made out to be animalistic throughout the whole poem in order to give the reader an
overall theme of exploitation of women. Marsh makes ironic use of positive connotations such as
delectably when describing the breasts of the Tahitian girls to heighten the erotic pleasure these men
find in these young girls. However the most unnerving line is when she uses a simile in ripen like paw
paw to add to the already unpleasant objectification of young women as sexual objects through the
metaphor of fruit which are best slightly raw very tempting to them. Marsh uses this to show how
sexually driven these european colonists such as gauguin where to these polynesian women. It also
sets the ideas of how these women women were desirable from a young age and Gauguin states that
for his reasoning behind sleeping with all of these women, as if it was not his fault. This leads me to
believe that Gauguin only sees these women as objects, not as people, which is an indication in a lot of
his artwork. We can also see how in this patriarchal world, men are able to act out their desires
without considering the scale of destruction they unleash on women or heritage cultures. Audre lorde
expresses a similar sentiment in her speech The master s tools will never dismantle the master s
house(1979) where she is telling us to reclaim reclaim our stolen tools, and to not cower in fear of the
master. But instead to stand up and break the false Consensus that limits our options. This showed
how difficult it was for these polynesian women to stand alone in a period where women were being
treated unfairly. The master s tools were in lords vision the inability to see or act beyond the norms of
the culture which despised or at best allowed difference and put

Comparing Sonny s Blues And The Weary Blues
The Harlem Renaissance was a time of revival and awakening in which the African American
community produced a new form of cultural identity. After years of oppression and slavery, African
Americans struggled to discover their own distinctive culture. It was through the literature and artistry
of the Harlem Renaissance that the African American community began to express the suffering and
resentment they truly experienced. In addition, the movement allowed them to find a way to escape
their hardships. James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues and Langston Hughes The Weary Blues address the
addiction, poverty, and violence that surrounded African Americans and the triumph of life that was
captured in their attempt to escape the suffering.

Troubled and alone the man described attempts to escape his past. He plays with a slow methodical
rhythm. The rhythm is not happy, but more relative to the man s experiences. Although not specified,
we can infer his past was not favorable. Langston writes, I s gwine to quit ma frownin And put ma
troubles on the shelf (Hughes). The anguish of his past is overbearing and without an outlet he would
likely be dead. The melancholy attitude carries through to his life and without his Blues music his
overbearing emotions shine. He slept like a rock or a man that s dead. (Hughes). What was optimistic

finds hope in the music, just like Sonny; however, once the curtains close the true emotions emerge.
His expression is almost that of desperation as opposed to inspiration. His plays his past and current
emotions in his music, which gives its richer and deeper vide. Instead of putting up a masquerade he

Identity Crisis In My Ghana
Reputation is everything to most families in Ghana. My grandparents have always defended their
reputation for decades. This has created a culture whereby the opinions of others about the family
matters more than the actual reality. Living under such circumstances raises expectations and forces an
individual to live by the dictates of society. It creates an identity crisis because you become who
society expects you to be rather than finding your true self.
In the early sixties, during the exodus of professionals from Ghana to Nigeria, my grandparents left
Ghana with my mum to Nigeria. My mum got pregnant with me at age fifteen in Nigeria and to
protect the family image she was sent back to Ghana by my grandparents to live in Ghana with a
family friend. My dad was never informed and to this day he has no idea I exist. My Grandparents
moved back to Ghana about three years after this incident.
Growing up as a kid, I was under the impression that my grandparents were my parents. At the age 8
when I found out the truth, I felt insecure in who I was and where I belonged. From then through by
teenage years, I lived in fear; the fear of not doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My confidence was further boosted as I received an award of excellence during graduation. This new
sense of confidence was well cemented in college when I had the opportunity to be one of four
individuals from a highly selective process to study for one year in Norway as part of the Norwegian
Quota Scheme Scholarship. This was my first time living outside Ghana, and the experience was life
changing. The class with students from all over the world and the encouraging faculty exposed me to
an entirely new culture and work ethic. A new world view was discovered, this gave me the
opportunity to view life through my own lenses without the constant pressures and limitations from

Case Study On Breakaway Brands
Breakaway Brands: Improving Consumer Lives
In the textbook POM, there is a case called Breakaway Brands in chapter 8. Brands are a key element
in the company s relationship with consumers. The textbook author says a brand is the company s
promise to deliver a specific set of features, benefits, services, and experiences consistently to buyers.
The case mentions each year, the Breakaway Brands survey identifies the 10 brands with the greatest
percentage gains in brand health and business value as a result of superb brand strategy and execution
over the previous three year period. The most recent Breakaway Brands survey was dominated by
contemporary and high tech brands. Although the case is more focused on Brands, I feel more
components from this chapter can fit the chapter also. On page 229, there is a table about marketing
considerations for consumer products. From the list of the top 10 Breakaway Brands these look like
they are convenience and shopping products.
One brand consultant, from the case, says when times are tough, people are looking are looking for
brands they know and the comforts they bring out, not only functionally but also emotionally. On page
233, there is a section about brands. Nowadays branding is so strong that almost anything goes
unbranded. The textbook author says consumers view a brand as an important part of a product, and
branding can add value to a consumer s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gwendolyn Brooks We Real Cool
Gwendolyn Brooks s We Real Cool commonly typifies her work and exists, for many readers, as the
most visible of her poems. High school and college students who have encountered her writing have
likely read little more than this single poem. The reason for both the ubiquitous nature of this work
and the universality of its appeal, especially among younger audiences, is manifest in both the
structure and subject matter of the poem. Richard Flynn writes that Brooks s work has used the image
and voice of the child to negotiate a complex poetic strategy that explores childhood as a position
from which to critique prevailing constructs of class and race (484). This is certainly true of We Real
Cool, which calls attention to the youth of the

Filmore Furniture Case

Key Events:
Fred Filmore opened Filmore Furniture in 1970, a company that manufactures small colonial
furniture. After 13 years, he retired and sold his business to his son Phil Filmore who was an
aggressive manager, strategist and modernized in introducing new product designs and new marketing
skills. Phil owns 63% of the business, shareholders own another 31%, and some employees account
for the other 6%. His marketing strategies and skills with his engineer Jean Lechaise brought business
and increased sales income to 5,100,000 in 1993. His annual salary amounted to 80,000 and he earned

These suppliers have slightly more bargaining power because of the differentiation between their
work. However the need for these suppliers can be eliminated if furniture manufacturers produce
every piece of their products themselves. A furniture manufacturer will only outsource production of
parts if it proves to be cost effective for their company. Since the price of materials is consistent
market and the outsourcing of production is unnecessary, suppliers have low bargaining power in the
furniture manufacturing industry.
Power of Substitutes VERY LOW
As previously stated the buyers in the furniture manufacturing industry are furniture retailers.
Therefore they will require furniture to continue business. There are no substitutes that provide the
same use as furniture. In relation to the furniture industry as a whole, there are still very little
substitutes to furniture aside from a higher use of closet space or unorthodox measures by consumers.
An example of this would be one s choice to live without furniture, which in most cases is very
unlikely. Furniture has become a household necessity and consumers have little or no desire to change
their lifestyles by eliminating that need. Therefore the threat of substitutes to the furniture
manufacturing industry is very low to the point where it is almost non existent.
Threat of

Unknown A was NaCI because when looking at this unknown solutions flame and NaCI s flame they both had this very strong orange color when they were burning they both looked very similar. The photons seemed to emit the same light. Unknown B was SrCI2 because once against they both showed the very strong red flame. When looking at the different flames one can conclude that these two flames were very similar. The photons seemed to emit the same amount of light and this is why these two looked the same. This is a chemical change because a new color is created and it is exciting the electrons. Burning is a chemical reaction because there is a new substance being created. There is also a color change and that is another way to tell that it was a chemical reaction. A new substance was made this is why it was a chemical change. If you take ice for example and melt it turns into a liquid. This is not a chemical change because it is still water just in a different form nothing new is created. The Relationship Between Katherine and Bianca in The Taming of the Shrew William Shakespeare is considered the greatest playwright of all time. His gift for developing characters is one major aspect that accounts for this lofty acknowledgement. Shakespeare created various characters from drunks and fools to kings and generals. The characters are so human and so real that the audience can see aspects of their own personalities represented on stage for better or worse. In fact, one contemporary study collaborates the motivation sibling rivalry before reporting that 82 percent of all families with more than one child reported that siblings had carried out some form of physical violence amongst themselves (Newman 120). There, when Bianca promises Katherine that she will plead Katherine s case to Hortensio, Katherine surmises that Biance likes Gremio. Animal Testing And Why It Should Continue Isaiah Tuppince Mr. Greer English 2 October 21st, 2015 Animal Testing and Why It Should Continue Jeremy Bentham once said, The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but Can they suffer? Animal testing is becoming a conflict right now and I believe that Animal testing should be stopped because it is cruel and inhuman, Alternative testing technologies exist, the lack of reliability, and it is expensive. Another quote once said was by Martin Luther King Jr stating Never, never be afraid to do what s right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake That quote is saying why do wrong when right can be done, especially when people and animals are involved. Animals have feelings and enjoy life as much as humans do so keeping them in captivity and testing drugs on them is cruel and inhuman. It is understandable that animal testing is helpful, and we can t test drugs on humans, but when alternative testing options are available there is no reason to keep animals in captivity and test drug, harm, and kill them. Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) is a program that was designed to begin vitro testing. This program was established by Johns Hopkins. Roman forms of architecture evolved mostly from reshaping Greek models, but clearly stands apart from its ancestors. The Romans were quick to adopt new techniques in construction; new use of materials, and new architectural structures. The Romans made innovations to fully fulfill the practical needs for the society as a whole. Among these architectural changes basilicas, temples, amphitheaters, bridges and aqueducts, and residential blocks can be found engrained in Roman culture as it positively impacted the lives of Romans. East Stroudsburg s Speech and Hearing Center is located on campus, in the town of East Stroudsburg PA, on the second floor of Monroe (building). The clinic at ESU was very clean and organized. It had multiple therapy and diagnostic rooms that were set up nicely and welcoming for a client. The types of population seen at the ESU s clinic range from any age for speech therapy or audiological visits. The clinical audiologist I observed was Susan Dillmuth Miller Au.D., CCC A, FAAA.. The secession started at 2:00 PM, and began in the audiology room where there is the main therapy room and then two sound treated rooms separated by a glass window. The sound treated rooms have been modified in a special way (double wall, incandescent lighting, floor suspended etc.) which results in blocking out unwanted noise to allow for reliable testing results (DeBonis and Donhue, 2008). Dr. Miller seated the patient in the main therapy room where she introduced herself to the client and gave her an overview of what was going to be taking place during the secession. The client I observed in junior high previously had Auditory Processing Disorder (APD). The client s complaint was that it was sometimes difficult for her in class to listen and understand. • 18. Comparing Gilgamesh And Hebrew Bible The two great floods in both the Gilgamesh story and in the Hebrew Bible have many similarities and have many differences. In both stories the gods planned to destroy the Earth because they did not like the way that people were behaving and felt that they should be punished for their actions. Like the story of Noah in the Hebrew Bible, Utanapishtim was warned by a god that a great flood was coming and that he should build a boat to protect himself, his family and the animals (81). Both gods instructed the two men to build a boat in specific cubit measurements. After both floods they boats landed on the mountains and birds were used to find land. Although these two great flood stories have many similarities they also have a few differences. For instance, in the great flood in Genesis the length of the boat was 300 cubits, the width was 50 cubits and the height was 30 cubits. In Gilgamesh, the boat was ten dozen cubits in height and ten dozen cubits square (82). The two floods also did not last the same amount of time; the flood in Genesis lasted for 40 days and 40 nights whereas the flood in Gilgamesh only lasted for 6 days and 6 nights. The flood in Gilgamesh was not determined by just one God like in the story of Noah, but was determined by a group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 19. Qualitative Research Article Critical Appraisal Qualitative Research Article Critical Appraisal Overview A study by Chu, Wodchis, and McGilton (2014) revealed a one year turnover rate as high as 85.5% for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and 55.4% for Registered Nurses (RNs) in long term care. In addition to this alarming statistic, in North Dakota alone, long term care facilities reported 669 open nursing positions in November of 2016 (NDLTCA, 2016). McGilton, Boscart, Brown, and Bowers (2014) noted that this mounting concern is associated with negative resident outcomes. Subsequently, McGilton et al. • 24. Political Emphasis Of George Orwell s Animal Farm Chun Yue Chan Prof. Godoy Eng 101 December 14, 2017 Animals Farm s Political Emphasis George Orwell s Animal Farm, written in 1945, portrays animals in imaginative human roles within a dystopian society. Orwell based Animal Farm on actual events surrounding the Russian Revolution in 1917. Animal Farm s setting, Manor Farm, depicts old world Russia of the early nineteenth century. The lead character, a white boar named Old Major, is reflective of communist leader Vladimir I. Lenin. Old Major s counterpart, a pig named Snowball, portrays Lenin s political crony Leon Trotsky. Another boar on Manor Farm, Napoleon, depicts the ruthless Russian leader Joseph Stalin. The greedy lust for power of politicians is directly epitomized in Animal Farm. Orwell utilizes anthropomorphism to personify characters, and political satire to examine the failures of a dystopic world. Orwell s setting for Animal Farm, Manor Farm, is a depiction of old world Russia from the era of monarchies. The owner of Manor Farm, Mr. Jones, is representative of Tsar Nicholas II, who was the last Russian emperor. During Nicholas rule from 1894 1917 the Russian people experienced terrible poverty and upheaval (Critical Essays The Russian Revolution). Old Major, leader of Manor Farm s animals, described life as miserable, laborious, and short. We are born, we are given just so much food as will keep the breath in our bodies, and those of us who are capable of it are forced to work to the last atom of our strength (Orwell). Old Major s dialogue further stated that no animal knew the meaning of happiness or freedom; life was misery and slavery. After all of their usefulness was expended, they were slaughtered with gruesome acts of cruelty (Orwell). The animals, like the Russian people under Nicholas, united to overthrow Mr. Jones, with promises of much improved lives. However, what started as a socialist society with a vision towards Utopia, soon started turning rancid (Neeraja). Perceived greed and excessive power were the reasons why Mr. Jones was overthrown, and the renamed Animal Farm would suffer a similar destiny. These two combined techniques adds to the effect of how women from Tahiti are being over sexuilised and made out to be animalistic throughout the whole poem in order to give the reader an overall theme of exploitation of women. Marsh makes ironic use of positive connotations such as delectably when describing the breasts of the Tahitian girls to heighten the erotic pleasure these men find in these young girls. However the most unnerving line is when she uses a simile in ripen like paw paw to add to the already unpleasant objectification of young women as sexual objects through the metaphor of fruit which are best slightly raw very tempting to them. Marsh uses this to show how sexually driven these european colonists such as gauguin where to these polynesian women. It also sets the ideas of how these women women were desirable from a young age and Gauguin states that for his reasoning behind sleeping with all of these women, as if it was not his fault. This leads me to believe that Gauguin only sees these women as objects, not as people, which is an indication in a lot of his artwork. We can also see how in this patriarchal world, men are able to act out their desires without considering the scale of destruction they unleash on women or heritage cultures. Audre lorde expresses a similar sentiment in her speech The master s tools will never dismantle the master s house(1979) where she is telling us to reclaim reclaim our stolen tools, and to not cower in fear of the master.
