Examples Of Motivation In Second Language Acquisition
Abstract
It s undoubtedly true that motivation in second language acquisition ( SLA) hints to the learner s
attempt and desire to learn a language and their attitude toward learning language (Dornyei, 1994) .
Motivation is regarded as a vital element in the develop of any activity . It plays a pivotal role in
obtaining the desired goals. Motivation in SLA has been crucially investigated in variety contexts such
as (Feng Chen ,2009; Wu Wu, 2008;Melendy,2008; Wang,2007; Lamb, 2007). As the components
believe motivating EFL students to develop in the target language is extremely complex. In many
cases , these students confront with problems in learning English and they are often demotivated to
learn .the inquiry in the field of motivation has triggered an intense controversy among ... Show more

Introduction In respect of the other kinds of learning , second language acquisition (SLA) does not
take place in a gap. When it comes to SLA in general and English as a second language (ESL)
specifically , several factors are involved. One of which is motivation , According to Melendy, 2008,
From the Latin root Movere , Motivation refers to a system that begins with a need and leads to a
behavior which moves an individual through achieving a goal . The most complicated and difficult
task which involves a multiplicity of psycho sociological and linguistic factors is motivating students
in the English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom, ( Dornyei, 1998; 2010a); Although, most
English teachers will assert to the crucial role motivation plays in the realm of teaching and learning
process. Many SLA researchers hold this view point that studying motivation is prominent, owing to
they believed learners even those with the most abilities can not achieve long term goals without
sufficient motivation. In other words, good instruction and appropriate curriculum might not be
enough to guarantee success.

The South
The Impact of Structure in Borge s The South Ordinarily, a short story is characterized by the
inclusion of crucial details, consistent characters, linear plots, and a significant closure; Argentine
novelist Jorge Luis Borges 20th century compilation of short stories, Ficciones, defies these
characteristics, and, upon its release, conclusively revolutionized the genre. Such fictions hold
incomplete backgrounds, thinly sketched characters, non linear plots, and open ended conclusions.
The emerging genre, affectionately titled Borgesian Literature, is illustrative of the aforementioned
qualities, where texts under this genre are often composed of concise language with critical detail
laced throughout the narrative. In The South , the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Did The Confederate Lose The Civil War Analysis
1. Why did the Confederacy lose the Civil War? What changes in military strategy, commanders, and
prosecution of the war finally secured Union victory in the end?
Multiple factors contributed to the Confederacy losing the Civil War; a lack of resources for the South,
a change in military strategy from the Southern leadership, the failures of the Confederate leadership
to combat evolving Union aggressive military strategy, and prosecution of Union prisoners of war.
First, the South had a myriad of disadvantages when compared to the North is terms of a lack of
resources i.e. people a five to two advantage favoring the North, military industrial complex also
favoring the North, and draft animals, most of which were in the North. All these ... Show more

The Union s resolve to finish re unification was strengthened by contempt for the Confederacy s
treatment of Union soldiers during the war, specifically black soldiers, which became relevant after
the1863 Emancipation Proclamation became official and black soldiers joined the army. The event
that sparked anger in the North took place on July 1863 when several prisoners from the 54th
Massachusetts were not exchanged with the rest of the white soldiers who participated is the assault
on Fort Wagner. This led Lincoln to issue General Order 252, which effectively suspended the Dix
Hill Cartel until Confederate forces agreed to treat black prisoners the same as white prisoners. This
led to a large scale effort to house captured soldiers on both sides. This however led to South erecting
one of the most notorious prisoner of war camps Andersonville Prison. The first inmates began
arriving at Andersonville prison on February 1864, while it was still being constructed. Andersonville
became necessary after the prisoner exchange system between the North and South collapsed in 1863
over disagreements about the handling of black soldiers. The Union soldiers imprisoned at
Andersonville suffered horrible conditions under the camp warden

Pros And Cons Of Slippery Slope
Slippery Slope Argument
One of the most controversial topics regarding euthanasia has got to do with the Slippery Slope . It
states that when one exception to the law is followed by more exceptions. There may come a time
when all that was considered unacceptable, will become acceptable. For now only voluntary
euthanasia is legal. According to hypothesis of the Slippery Slope soon non voluntary and involuntary
euthanasia may follow. For example Physician Assisted Suicide (PAS) which was once a last resort is
being considered as a first in many countries.
In Netherlands there has been an increase of 20% of euthanasia cases per year since 2006. In 2005
according to Groningen protocol, euthanasia was allowed on newborns and younger children who are
expected to have no hope of a quality life.
In Belgium there has been a 500% in euthanasia deaths since 2003 to 2012 which is one the rise.
In Switzerland where assisted suicide was legalized specifically the University Hospital of the canton
of Vaud, Lausanne, Switzerland is the first hospital to allow assisted suicide. There has been a 700%
rise in cases.

A will to survive
A wish for death
This usually stems from severe depression i.e. being a burden to family, life not worth living etc.
While most patients acknowledge that they will die soon, only a number of them have a serious desire
to die. Those who seriously want to die are the ones with severe depression. They are either in serious
pain or have little to no family support.
The patients with the strongest case of such requests are the HIV infected and cancer patients. Besides
clinical depression, suffering from a previous trauma, suicidal tendencies and thoughts were also the
cause of the requests.
Another cause would be low social support and intendance at religious services. According to the
patients they consider themselves to be a burden because society said so or that God has given up on

Twelve Angry Men Character Analysis
The way one person treats another is often a direct reflection of how they view themselves. People
with poor self images are often quick to judge, demean, belittle, and rebuke others for their mistakes,
shortcomings and flaws, simply out of spite or to protect their own reputation. This is true even in the
1957 MGM film Twelve Angry Men, where eleven of the twelve jurors attempt to convict a young
man not based off of sound evidence, but off of personal prejudice and self righteousness alone. It was
the leadership of the eighth juror, however, that convinced the other jurors to set aside their personal
biases to acquit the young man accused of killing his father. In the film, the eighth juror, Mr. Davis,
analyzes the self images of the other eleven jurors and displays the core values of humility, patience
and mercy in order to lead the group to the consensus that the accused is not guilty.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines humility as the quality or state of being humble and freedom
from pride or arrogance . Humility, simply put, is the opposite of prejudice. In the film, many of the
jurors enter the room with preconceived notions, falsified beliefs and irrational ideas about the
accused. Others enter the room unsure of their vote and to protect their pride, immediately side with
the jurors who believe the young man is guilty. Examples of this include how several of the jurors
stereotype the accused on the basis of race and how the third juror in particular forms a bias against
the young man simply because of his
age and the fact that the young man reminds him of his son. Mr. Davis, however, takes another stance.
In the book The Achievement Habit: Stop Wishing, Start Doing and Take Command of Your Life, Dr.
Bernard Roth states that true mindfulness is seeing without judging (Roth 205). Mr. Davis perfectly
models this quote as he approaches the issue with sympathy towards the young man in regard to his
upbringing. On an analytical level, the screenplay convincingly moves the audience to side with Mr.
Davis through the use of honest dialogue that allows viewers to put their trust in what Mr. Davis says.
The validity of Mr. Davis claims also stems from the profile of his character crafted by the

More, people are protected from infection with only 6% of the life years lost to premature death being
attributed to communicable diseases. Together, communicable diseases, maternal, perinatal, and
nutritional conditions account for only 7% of all deaths in the country. These can be attributed to high
levels of care for environmental and public health, which is also indicated by the fact that roughly
100% of the Danish population has access to both clean water and improved sanitation, both
protective against communicable diseases.
Although Denmark has been remarkable in protecting its citizens from communicable diseases, deaths
resulting from injury, childhood deaths, and deaths connected to pregnancy, all people must at some
point die. As a result, 88% of life years lost to premature death in Denmark are the product of long
term, non communicable disease, which makes up 90% of all death in the country. Cancer is the
largest killer in Denmark, causing 32% of all deaths. This is followed by cardiovascular disease,
which leads to 26% of all deaths. Both can be at least partially attributed to relatively high levels of
obesity, with 18.7% of all men and 17.6% of all women being obese, with even more being
overweight. This is typical of developed countries as people become accustomed to more sedentary
lifestyles and high calorie foods.

The Scarlet Letter. New York: Penguin, 1986. Print. This classic novel is set during the infancy of this
country. The Puritanical community of 17th century Boston finds the condemned Hester Prynne with a
scarlet letter A upon her chest along with the product of her indiscretion, an infant. Upon the gallows,
she is ordered to reveal the name of the father of her child yet she remains steadfast in her resolve to
remain silent and create a life for herself and Pearl. This decision allows the reader to understand the
tension that the puritan way of life created for all of the citizens. The novel begins with the story of the
narrator and his role within his customs house duties two hundred years after Hester s story ended.
The narrator s story is a direct reflection of Hester s story and has many of the same symbolisms.
Within the custom house the narrator is surrounded by men who are the embodiment of do as I say not
as I do. He is also isolated within his own community much like Hester was in Boston. The Scarlet
Letter is an example of early drama that was created by strong symbols including nature vs nurture,
evil and original sin. This work by Nathaniel Hawthorne s is the beginning of the conflict that really
began in the 18th century of intelligence vs. emotions and how society moved away from Puritanical
idealism with the advent of the

Romanticism In Oliver Twist
Introduction:
In mid 19th century England, realistic literature came as a response to the preceding romantic period.
The romantic period was known to emphasize the experiences of the individual and was regarded as a
highly aesthetic period. It was related with the movement of sensibility or sentimentalism, which
stressed the importance of emotions and feelings of sympathy (Kitson 328 329). Contrarily, realism
during the Victorian age aimed to address economic and social issues in society by depicting the
struggles in the developing society as accurately as possible (Redd). Consequently, in the 1830s, when
Charles Dickens was writing Oliver Twist, it is justifiable that elements of both realism and
sentimentalism can be found in the novel. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most notably, Dickens depiction of London (in particular the workhouses and other social institutions)
and his criminal characters have a very prominent realistic effect. However before going into detail
about the realistic setting and characters, it would be beneficial to take a look at Dickens preface for
Oliver Twist. In his preface for Oliver Twist, Dickens justifies his reasons for writing about the
criminals of London; he had the impression that real thieves and pickpockets were not portrayed
correctly in literature during that time. For that reason, he felt that it was necessary to show these
crooks as they really were, for ever skulking uneasily through the dirtiest paths of life (7). He also
believed that doing this would be a service to society , and that he did it as best as [he] could . He
explains that he won t be writing about appealing and pleasant situations; ...no merry makings in the
snuggest of all possibly caverns, none of the attractions of dress, no embroidery, no lace... (8). In
essence, this preface foreshadows the realistic elements in the novel by telling the readers where to
look. Clearly the characters and setting will be portrayed as honestly and truthfully as possible,
without overlooking even one hole in the Dodger s coat, or one scrap of curl paper in Nancy s
dishevelled hair (9) and describing the cold wet shelterless midnight streets of London; the foul and
frowsy dens, where vice is closely packed and lacks the room to turn [...]

One Is Truth By Emerson Rhetorical Analysis
Emerson s essay on friendship is one of the most remembered and highly respected essays dating back
to the 19th century. The information given in the essay is extremely valuable and has helped to explain
the universal truth that is friendship. Emerson s essay on friendship is his way of delineating the paths
of coherence. These parts fall into two distinct kinds. The first is the consistent enunciation of a view
which is the master tone that Emerson uses from essay to essay while the second is the internal linking
of the views in the essay. Some scholars have argued that Emerson s views on friendship are strange
and radical while others feel that his logic is sound and valid. This argument can only be found by

No doubt Emerson gives friendship at a high value. However, He gives the true definition of
friendship, At the entrance of a second person, hypocrisy begins. We parry and fend the approach of
our fellow man by compliments, by gossip, by amusements, by affairs. We cover up our thought from
him under a hundred folds. In addition, Emerson uses sound understanding and logic to present his
view of friendship. In one way that he does this is by his statement, emotions of benevolence and
complacency which apperceived towards others. Emerson s words show the remarks either abstract or
generalized, in regards to friendship. This is noticed when Emerson s words move away from the
abstract and generalized remarks on his experience with friendship. However, A person seeks the
company of a stranger when they believe that the stranger will give or inspire something that we
currently lack, Emerson stated
Though from the essay, it turns out that Emerson does not have much to say about friendship, he states
that the stranger who Emerson refers to as a friend awakens a desire for throbbing of the heart and the
communications of the soul. Furthermore, Emerson goes on to say that despite of this, sometimes
friends disappoint others in relationships. He also states that friendship brings about doubt which is
only justified by the course of our

BONOBOS
Species Origination and Geographical Distribution The bonobo is the most recently discovered great
ape in modern times. It was revealed in 1929 by German anatomist Ernest Schwarz that a skull once
thought belonging to a juvenile chimpanzee was in fact a new subspecies of chimpanzee known now
as the Pan paniscus, or bonobo. (Waal 6) During the Pleistocene epoch approximately 1.5 million
years ago, the Congo River was formed in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. (San

Bonobo s are classified within the Genus Pan, Species paniscus. Pan paniscus is commonly referred to
as the pygmy/lesser/dwarf chimpanzee, and gracile ape. The name bonobo is said to be meaningless,
taken from a misspelling on a shipping crate headed to the town of Bolobo in the Democratic Republic
of Congo. (Primate Info Net) On an interesting note, some taxonomists suggest putting both
chimpanzees and bonobo s in the same Genus as humans, Homo, due to genetic similarities in the
species because both are humans closest genetic relatives. (San Diego Zoo 2) (Wildman Et. Al. 2003)
Physical Characteristics Bonobo s display a varied degree of sexual dimorphism, which is a
characteristic specific to either male or female sex. When comparing the two sexes, males are more
muscular and hold an average weight of 95 pounds compared to an average of 82 pounds and a
slighter built female, a 15 percent weight difference between them. Sexual dimorphism is also
apparent in that males possess a unique dental trait, long canines, a feature that females lack. Both
sexes are similar in that neither has a height advantage, averaging 2.3 to 3 feet in height. (Waal 24)
Bonobo s possess long, fine black hair covering most of the body and black colored hands and feet.
Their black faces feature wide, thick walled nostrils and long black facial hair that often covers their
small ears. Their head hair

Britain s Political And Religious Structure During The...
Between the years 1529 1588 and in the Tudor era, Britain saw perhaps the biggest changes in its
political and religious structure in its history. It changed from Catholicism to Protestantism, then back
and back again. It also saw major changes in who ran the country, with more involvement from
parliament. Different chief ministers (including Thomas Cromwell) had different impacts on Britain
and the monarch, and the influence of them will be assessed in this essay. Thomas Wolsey was born in
1475, and rose his way the top. Before being made a cardinal, he became a priest and a successful
politician, and he was the almoner (in charge of distributing funds to the poor) when Henry came to
the throne in 1509. Wolsey held several important positions. He was the Bishop of Lincoln, Canon of
Windsor and also Prince Bishop of Durham. One accomplishment that Wolsey is particularly
remembered for, is organising the Field of The Cloth Of Gold. This was a festival planned to celebrate
the alliance between England and France, with both monarchs, Henry VIII and Francis I strengthening
their relationship. The treaty of London was also a huge accomplishment for Wolsey, as he was the
one who designed the 1518 treaty. It was a non aggression pact between the major European nations,
(France, England, Holy Roman Empire, the Papacy, Spain, Burgundy and the Netherlands), all of
whom agreed not to attack one another and come to aid if needed. Though it was not always

India is an agricultural country. Seventy percent of its people live in villages. One third of our
National income comes from agriculture. Our economy is based on agriculture. The development of
agriculture has much to do with the economic welfare of our country. Agricultural market is
continuously increasing for the past couple of decades in India as the technology is developing. The
continues increasing demand of food products has resulted in the increased demand of food grains and
thus has increased the use of farm machinery in rural areas. India is seeing the movement of labour
from rural to urban areas which with the demand of increasing production efficiency in food product is
the evidence that there is a future for farm mechanization in India. Make in India is an initiative of the
Government of India, to encourage companies to manufacture their products in India. Companies like
John Deere, New Holland, Mahindra Rise, TAFE have started increasing their operations in India. It is
very clear that the Western model of agriculture can t support our Indian agriculture like heavy

Human s Obsession with the Pretty One
Chasing Beauty
Sitting in a bar a few nights ago I noticed two women sitting at a table by themselves. It wasn t long
till a group of four guys asked to join them. As the men pulled up chairs they concentrated heavily to
one side of the table. It didn t take long to figure out they were all pining after the more attractive of
the two women. Why does the pretty woman get all the attention and free drinks, and her homely
friend blends into the wallpaper? We all know attractive people get treated better. It s so ingrained in
human evolution to chase after attractive qualities, and it shapes our every day lives.
Advertising is a good example of our affinity for beauty. Magazines, television, billboards, and
Internet pop up ads use attractive people to sell products. We end up chasing products that we believe
will make us healthier, better looking, or covers our physical flaws. They get beautiful models and
actresses to make consumers think the product is what makes the models and actresses attractive. This
tactic is so effective because it plays on our desire to be attractive. The more attractive we are the
better sexual mates we can attract. Martial arts expert Chuck Norris endorses a home workout product
called the Total Gym. We see Chuck Norris using the product in the commercials, yet it had nothing to
do with the level of fitness he achieved. It doesn t matter though. We see the extremely fit man using a
product so we think if we use it as well we to can be in that kind

Benefits Of A Proactive Strategic Procurement Operation

advantage over its competitors( competitive advantage) allowing it to generate greater sales and retain

Hewlett Packard is the case study of this work, procurement being a broad topic, we will concentrate
on three main areas for the purpose of these work. Brief understanding of them;
GLOBAL SOURCING:
Global sourcing can be simply defined as coordinating and integrating of procurement requirement
across worldwide business units. Mostly practised by large organisations because they are the ones
that have the need, leverages and facilities around the globe to enable them apply the process to gain
competitiveness from global sourcing. They are usually in a contract with other large corporations
who have the ability to supply the products to their sites located globally. Many organisations are
meeting the need for lower cost by moving to foreign countries where there are less regulations that
interferes with the manufacturing process, where they can find cheaper labour and thereby lower the
cost of basic plant, personnel cost and also operational cost. Sourcing and outsourcing which have
developed over time are the two basic methods of foreign manufacturing and it helps in making the
best choice for global supply chains. Some basic things need to be considered before outsourcing,
sometimes companies outsource when it does not make any sense. Eg if a

pride myself on. My appearance constitutes a large part of my identity and self image. I am your

lesbians, we assume we have a certain amount of gaydar ingrained within us, like it s a prerogative.
We think that we have the capability to pinpoint any woman in a crowd and say Yes! She s one of us.
But where does this presumed gaydar come from? Is it a feeling we get, a judgment of mannerisms,
something we see in ourselves reflected in others, or is it simply what people wear? Do short hair,
plaid shirts, Jordan s and ties delineate what we perceive a lesbian to be? Gaydar is probably a
conglomeration of all these attributes, but we can t deny that the most conventional and simplest way
to ascertain someone s sexual orientation is from what they re wearing. This process is highly
inaccurate. Clothes are just a way to categorize us into subcultures. Indeed, we can all recount that one

This is most noticeable in the song White Ferrari where Ocean sings in a rhythm that sounds almost
identical to the popular song Here, There, and Everywhere by The Beatles. The album starts off with
Nikes, a slow, hypnotic song, featuring high pitched vocals from Ocean, and a very dreamy sound,
somewhat creating a mood for the rest of the album. The next songs, Ivy and Pink and White, are
polar opposites about love, where in Ivy, Ocean talks about how he failed to keep a relationship going
on, and in Pink and White he sings about intimate love and good long term relationships. The album
also contains skits like Be Yourself where Frank s mother leaves a phone call for him telling him not
to consume alcohol, not to get in the car with someone who has consumed alcohol, or is impaired by
smoking marijuana, and a skit called Facebook Story, about a man who lost his wife because he didn t

destroy long built relationships with somebody you love.
The highlights of the album come from songs like Solo, a gospel influenced song with somewhat of an
Adele influence. Godspeed is another heavily gospel influenced song where Ocean proves strong his
abilities as a singer with a very strong vocal performances and a basic piano instrumental. (It should

The American Of A Blind Old Woman
Overall, the American themes in this speech are undeniable. For one thing, Morrison s most important
character, a blind old woman, is stated outright to be American. Not only that, she is the widely
respected child of slaves, so she is very deeply tied into both the good and bad of America s past
(Morrison). She also alludes numerous times to American history and culture, especially in the
conclusion of her speech, which comes in the form of a rapid succession of powerful images. The last
of these is of a wagonload of slaves three years before the Civil War, whose lives are saved from a
frigid winter (however momentarily) by the kindness of two youths (Morrison). Not only is this
clearly tied into American history, it also contains the distinctly American values of hope in the face of
death, like the colonists had against the crushing odds of the Revolutionary War, and unity in spire of
differences after all, the children are most likely white considering they had just exited an inn the
slaves wouldn t have been allowed into that would eventually lead to the passage of every Civil Rights
law in the nation s history (Morrison). Morrison uses an allegory to the Tower of Babel, saying that if
the builders of the Tower had simply learned to communicate with one another, they would not have
had to seek heaven because they would have already reached it (Morrison). This interpretation of the
Tower of Babel is especially meaningful in the context of America, which lives up to its

The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms
Since its inception in 1982 the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, very much like its primary
architect Pierre Trudeau, has been one of the most celebrated yet controversial elements of Canadian
politics and governance. Revealing how this dynamic emerged requires a nuanced understanding of
the motivation behind the Charter and the techniques it employed to succeed. The Canadian Charter of
Rights and Freedoms, like the entire patriation process, was motivated by and mobilized support
through, constitutionally enshrining democratic core values, multiculturalism and a sense of
nationalism. However, it should not be seen as merely a symbolic gesture on the part of Britain and
Canada or merely a strengthening of core values. Instead it was a fundamental reinvention of
Canadian federalism that shifted power away from the provinces to the federal government and from
the Parliament to the courts. This was accomplished by incentivizing provincial acceptance,
developing common interests, and, as a result, formalizing a national identity where the protection and
expansion of core values was encouraged as fundamental. This dynamic allowed the reinvention to, by
and large, succeed. An understanding of the provisions and effects of the Charter and how it ultimately
succeed as a re invention of the Canadian Government requires knowledge of the patriation process.
Before 1982, the formal power to amend the Canadian Constitution was held by the British
Parliament. This was seen

Why Summer Shouldn T Be Extended Essay
Why the Summer Shouldn t be Shortened The summer for kids should not be shortened because kids
need a break, to experience real life events and not just school all day everyday. If kids are cooped up
in school all day without breaks and vacations then how will kids be prepared for college or the real
world when they have to make their own decisions. If they don t experience these things then students
will be ill prepared. Kids need a break because they learn so much new information and so many new
things that you can overload the brain (Should). Then kids won t be as focused because they have too
much information to remember and will not do well on tests. Kids also start to get bored at the end of
the year they are not as focused and not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As well as stress building up due to all the pressure to get good grades, students need a rest from all
the pressure and the stress. Students should get the 10 week rest compared to the 40 week school year.
Teacher Valerie Patterson says children need a break from school in the summer to develop healthy
habits and enjoy freedom (Wornoff). This being said from a teacher, it must be an indicator that the
summer should not be shortened or taken away. As students get older they possess harder and more
homework and class work, as well as stressing about good grades and college. Summer is a time for a
break and to settle down and not be so uptight. By having summer kids get to relax, have fun and not
be so stressed.
Summer should stay the same because it gives kids a time to settle down and relax. They do not have
to be so worried about good grades, homework, and turning things in on time. By shortening summer
that will make kids more stressed and not as focused in class because by the end of the year students
start to get bored and not as focused but with summer they can come back rejuvenated and ready to

These five steps for the planned change enables an organization to reassess many aspects of its
operations and future plans (Jarousse, 2013, p.22). The first step involves gathering information from
the team and explain the need for change (Jarousse, 2013). The first steps allow units leaders look at
the company s strengths and weaknesses and help identify the problem and decide if a change is
needed. The second step is to get feedback from all workers (Jarousse, 2013). The third step is to plan
for an agreement on the weaknesses and strengths of the company (Jarousse, 2013). In this step, the
team can identify areas of support and areas where improvement is needed. The fourth step is to create

Solar Power Rating
Solar Stats: How much Energy are my Panels Producing?
There are three main factors to consider when trying to determine how much energy your panels are
producing. For starters, the amount of energy being produced will depend greatly on the amount of
sunlight that the panels are subjected to. Along with this, it will also depend on the size of the panel as
well as the quality of the solar cells that make up the panels.
In order to determine if switching to solar is the right decision to make, learning more about energy
production is an important step. To do this, it is best to focus on some particular areas when
conducting research. These areas are discussed further below.
Power Rating
When selecting specific solar panels, it is important to note the number that is listed on the back of
them. This number will indicate the power that is given off under the best circumstances. This number
is referred to as the maximum power rating. When the panels are tested in a laboratory setting, this
number is calculated by determining the amount of power that they will produce at noon at the equator
on a sunny day. The maximum power rating will allow homeowners to understand the maximum
amount of power that they should expect to see from the solar panels that they choose.

Keep in mind that it is not likely that the chosen solar panels will receive the amount of sunlight that is
available at the equator. Also, the actual amount of sunlight will vary throughout the day. Since it is
best upon both the season and the weather, it isn t possible to use the maximum power rating to
determine the exact power that will be seen from the solar panel. However, there are still ways to
determine how well a panel will perform in a particular area. To learn this information, the average
amount of sunlight that occurs in a particular area is necessary. With this information, one can
calculate the best panel to purchase in order to receive the best

A parasympathetic response called Vasodilation happens. Blood vessels directing to the muscles dilate
to allow more oxygen to be used. The blood pressure will drop because of the dilation. When we
exercise our body will heat up causing blood vessels around our skin to dilate, more blood flows and
help to reduce the excess heat in out body.
Vasoconstriction The sympathetic nervous system on the brain causes the heart rate to increase making
your veins constrict. This is called vasoconstriction and the blood flow will be directed right to the
muscle to help it work harder. Temperature increases to help the flow of blood around the body. Your
reflexes will be quicker and your muscles tense. This facilitates the blood carrying oxygen and
removing waste products.

In the ceremony, the dancers line up in two lines dancing while portraying goats. The dancers wear
outfits made of white silk thread with normal tennis shoes and socks. The mask, of course, is the most
important aspect of the attire. Mask makers typically decorate the masks with horns, a head dress, or
both. They also usually paint them in bright colors, such as the one found on masksoftheworld.com. In
some areas, the masks also have colored ribbon at the tips of the horns and hair made of sisal or raffia

This is the case in Quechultenango, Guerrero, Mexico. Groups of both male and female dancers

Although the colonies were all united under British rule, they eventually separated into various

The impact religion had on the Chesapeake region is minimal, however when compared to the
overwhelming effect it had in New England. The New England region included the colonies of New
Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts Bay, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Plymouth. The foremost
religion of the New England region was Puritanism, which was most prominent in the Massachusetts
Bay, Plymouth, and Connecticut colonies. The colony of Rhode Island was formed when Roger
Williams was expelled for radical ideas. He found the Church of England to be corrupt and stressed
the importance of religious tolerance while creating one of the first Baptist churches. Later Anne
Hutchinson, another colonist expelled for radical and dangerous ideas, founded Portsmouth which
stressed the importance of faith, not deeds. Eventually Williams joined the colonies to form Rhode
Island. New England became a fortress of congregationalism which developed community religion
and further strengthened the Puritan church. The church, though wholly religious, still faced issues
preserving orthodoxy without compromising the rights of the congregation, but they were hesitant to
undermine the authority of the laity in favor of the ministry. The Puritans mistrust of any English
authority governing them, eventually led to their refusal to adhere to

Analysis Of The Soldier By Rupert Brookes
War is a horrible thing that can negatively change peoples lives forever. During world war one many
poets wrote about the good and bad they saw in war. Rupert Brookes Had a very positive view on war.
In his poem The Soldier he shows war as a great way to see the world and make new friends, when
really its quite the opposite. Wilfred Owens portrays war as a thing not of glory but of death and
suffering. His poem Dulce et Decorum est shows the terror of gas attacks and tries to convince the
readers that it s really not worth dying for your country. This Essay will argue through the use of
language features and quotes how we see big differences between views on war. Through two short
poems we re shown that it s glorious and gracious to die for your country, and then that its all a trick to
get more soldiers into the terrible trenches to try and turn the tide of the battle. Rupert Brookes has a
very positive view on war. Throughout his poem The Soldier he uses words with soft and positive
connotations to show that war is really a nice thing. If I should die, think only this of me: That there s
some corner of a foreign field that is forever England The metaphor creates the impression that when
you die in war you live on through a new life. This is shown again through the allusion Washed by the
rivers, blest by the suns of home. This represents a baptism almost, showing as if when you die in war,
you are reborn. Brookes uses the metaphor and allusion to make us wonder about what would happen
if he were to pass. He shows that even if he dies he won t stop living as he will always be there in that
small but meaningful corner of the empty field. Then he will be reborn, cleansed and freed by the
chains of war. The use of all the gentle and upbeat words, gives off the feeling that war is a great thing
and that its worth fighting for your country as you will be rewarded after death with a new life, to be
cleansed and reborn. The poem convinced thousands of young men to go and fight for their country
during the first world war. Many of them would go on to die and never return home to see their
families ever again. Wilfred Owens view on war is the opposite to Brookes. In his poem Dulce et

Escapism In The Amazing Adventures Of Kavalier And Clay
Michael Chabon s recurring theme in The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier Clay is the notion of
escapism. Samuel Clay and Joe Kavalier both faced situations in their lifetime that initiated and

addition to that, he escapes from reality of the Nazis s expansion and ubiquitous presence in Europe
by using his fictional comic character, the Escapist, to battle the Nazis on paper. Other forms of escape
that Joe Kavalier faced was escaping from death. One instance, was his escape from drowning during
his early days under the tutelage of Bernard Kornblum. Kavalier had requested his brother, Thomas, to

Finding great meanings in the little and simple things in life, Sammy loses himself to his daydreams of
being a well known and widely admired publisher, traveling around the world to famous places with
his father, and taking care of the important women in his life his mother and grandmother. However,
Sammy s master accomplishment of escape is yet to be his escape from his own personal
homosexuality. His homosexuality is also an aspect and self identity that morphed into chains of
shame and burden due to the fact that the subject was a matter of strong taboo during the 1930s and

Similarities Between Iago s Soliloquy In Othello
William Shakespeare s play Othello is a short, drama filled with suspense, hate, manipulation, and
jealousy. The main characters are Iago: the antagonist and Othello: the protagonist. The suspicion of
Othello being with Iago s wife causes him to hate Othello. No matter what version of Iago s soliloquy
is depicted as the hate for Othello is strongly stated. Iago s character can be considered as a creepy,
psychopath, individual obsessed with revenge against Othello. The three videos and the passage from
Othello have similarities and differences, but it is the details that creates: either a different mood,
performance, or symbol from each other. Iago s soliloquy on page 572 bring forth information about
Iago s inner thoughts and foreshadows other events in the play. Between lines 370 373 is a
conversation between Iago and Roderigo, and in the conversation Iago seems to be an honest and
trustworthy friend. That quickly changes when William Shakespeare gives the audience an
understanding of Iago s deceit and anger. When Iago says, gained knowledge should profane...with
such a snipe but for my sport and profit (lines 374 376) he confesses that Roderigo is a fool that can
easily be taken advantage of by him. Then he goes on to explain how he hates the Moor (line 376) ,
because of rumors he heard about Othello being with his wife. Not only does he have distrust for
Othello, but also Cassio. Iago pauses at least three times to emphasize his thought process. Iago says,

Food Chains Lab Report
n this lab we learned about the food chains and relationships between organisms in an ecosystem. We
did this by playing a card game where we connected different organisms in a specific ecosystem to
organisms in their food web. Each player was given three different cards. Each card contained a
different organism from a different ecosystems including marine, desert, forest, and freshwater. The
dealer would then place a card face up. Based on our cards we would bet chips each of different
colors, red 10 pts, green 5 pts, blue 1pt. The dealer would place a total of 4 cards facing up and in
between we would have to bet chips based on how we thought our cards were. Our goal was to try and
create as many feeding relationships or food chains as possible

Rate Of Teen Pregnancies In The United States
One crucial question is what is the rate of teen pregnancies in the United States? According to the
article Teen Pregnancy Facts , About 750,000 teens become pregnant each year. That adds up to
roughly 0.24% of the United States overall population. Though, not a substantial amount, it still
generates an abundance of issues; not only for the mother and child, but also for the country as teen
moms are many times in need of government assistance and/or welfare.
An increased rate of teenage mothers causes an increased need for government assistance and/or
welfare, which in turn, creates more government debt. One article previously used, Teen
Pregnancy facts , emphasizes that More than 75% of teen mothers need welfare within 5 years ...

An umpteen amount of parents, schools, and even trusted adults believe teaching abstinence only will
prevent teen pregnancy, but in all reality, that method does not sufficiently keep teenagers from having
sex safe sex, for that matter. That is where the controversial argument on contraceptives begins. A
great amount of teenagers has sex; it s inevitable. American Teens Sexual and Reproductive Health
states that 71% of teenagers has sex before their nineteenth birthday.
Proving that not only a great amount of teenagers has sex, but a majority of them do. The most
obvious and prevailing problem is the prevention of unprotected sex and unplanned teen pregnancy.
Though, some states do permit teenagers to have access to contraceptives without parental consent,
other states do not, thus, bringing up the question as to why some teen girls have those rights, but
others do not.
At the time, twenty one states in the U.S. permit all minors to contraceptive services, however, twenty
five states explicitly permit minors to consent to contraceptive services in one or more circumstances (
State Policies In Brief ). Focusing on the twenty one states, that

Informative Essay On Drag Racing Cars
The drivers and their teams do not just sit there and see who has the faster car and who will make it to
the finish line first. There is a lot of preparation, skill and strategies that are behind the process. The
team must prepare for a race regardless of the length by getting the engines running to the RPM and
efficiency needed to make sure the car is at maximum performance. They can not have errors when it
comes to race time because one mistake could cost them their car or pride. The types of tires and
functionality of clothing play a huge role in how a driver will perform in a race which inflicts how
films and music are perceived when it comes to racing cars. Tires come in different sizes and
functions. Some are better suited for everyday ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Music that involves car racing is usually loud or has some time of motivational type. Films involves
loud car noises and screeching of the tires. Some one is always intense in both music and films of
racing cars. In Mark Braboys article it says that the films music has been consisting of predominantly
hip hop, R B, and heavy metal to incorporating reggaeton, EDM, and pop music as the series grew
with the times (Braboy, 14 Greatest Soundtrack Songs From the Fast Furious Franchise ). All the
music in these films have been able to pump someone up to watch car racing because it makes it more
intense and more excited to the audience. The films go along with the music and make it more
exciting to watch. There are many car racing films, but whomever the audience is determines what
he/she thinks when car racing comes to mind. Like Mike Guy says in his article, The fact of the matter
is, to a car guy, choosing a list of the ten best car movies of all time is sort of like a food fanatic trying
to rank their favorite all time meals (Guy, Top 10 Car Movies of All Time ). Some people might think
The Fast and the Furious series when they hear car racing, and some may think Death Race, Cars, or
Telladaga Nights. It all depends on who is listening and who the person is that determines the film.
When the audience determines the film or music that

Analysis Of The God Of Small Things
Perceiving through the gender and sexually lens in the novel The God of Small Things, it have
illustrated the severity of gender oppression and discrimination through examination of the marital and
intergender relations like patriarchy, gender roles and love. Specifically in the novel, Ammu,
Mammachi and Baby Kochamma are all female characters and that they have experienced horrible
discriminations and oppressions due to their gender, religion and statuses which have torn them
between traditional norms and modern attitudes. Sadly speaking, their private love relationships are
actually socially and politically regulated to emphases of caste and religion. Reversing the natural
uncontrollability of who to love, in what way and to what extent, results in equally unnatural
insurrections and obstructions of love relationship. The love laws are basically to put or set boundaries
between the upper caste and lower caste which they are not allow to have any sexual relationship
besides working as intensive labor. Women who are married are expected to be a good house wives
and to serve their husband. This novel have demonstrated gender oppression, sexism and
discrimination against women. When the female characters attempt to challenge or disobey the
customs, laws, values of social and cultural boundaries, they commit moral transgressions which
ultimately lead them toward their death and ruination. Therefore, majority women doesn t have an
option but to accept or adapt to the

Even though Deming, Juran, and Crosby all have similarities between their key principles in quality
management there are several aspects that are different to the approaches. They all recognize the
importance of measurement to improve quality; however, the level of importance each emphasizes is
different. Crosby and Juran view the cost of quality as the focus of measurement whereas Deming
does not use the cost of quality as a focus (Suarez, 1992, p.18). To Deming, meeting the customers
needs and expectations about a product or service is of higher importance to quality. He also considers
unknown costs such as the impact of lost customers to be more significant than visible costs (Suarez,
1992, p.18).
Deming, Juran, and Crosby all define quality in different ways. Deming defines quality as a
continuous improvement and the ultimate goal is zero defects; however, he realizes an error free
product may not be economically feasible or practical (Kerzner, 2009, p. 880). Deming also states a
product or service is defined by the customer and quality is a relative term and will change based on
the customer s needs (Suarez, 1992, p.3)
Juran s definition of quality focuses 100% of the customer s satisfaction of the product. He stresses a
balance between product features and products free from deficiencies and believes a quality product is
free from deficiencies (Suarez, 1992, p.4). In order to achieve this

and holds a recording device and a battery pack. Sensors are incorporated within the belt. Data
recorder Data recorder is a small portable recording device placed in the recorder pouch, attached to
the sensor belt. It has light weight (470 gm). Data recorder receives and records signals transmitted by
camera. It is of the size of walkman and receives and stores 5000 to 6000 JPEG images on a 9 GB
hard drive. Images take several hours to download through several connections. Data recorder stores
the images of your examination. Do not expose them to shock, vibration or direct sunlight, which may
result in loss of information.

It is slightly larger than normal capsule. The patient swallows the capsule and the natural muscular
waves of the digestive tract propel it forward through stomach, into small intestine, through the large

Examples Of Motivation In Second Language Acquisition Abstract It s undoubtedly true that motivation in second language acquisition ( SLA) hints to the learner s attempt and desire to learn a language and their attitude toward learning language (Dornyei, 1994) . Motivation is regarded as a vital element in the develop of any activity . It plays a pivotal role in obtaining the desired goals. Motivation in SLA has been crucially investigated in variety contexts such as (Feng Chen ,2009; Wu Wu, 2008;Melendy,2008; Wang,2007; Lamb, 2007). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Introduction In respect of the other kinds of learning , second language acquisition (SLA) does not take place in a gap. When it comes to SLA in general and English as a second language (ESL) specifically , several factors are involved. One of which is motivation , According to Melendy, 2008, From the Latin root Movere , Motivation refers to a system that begins with a need and leads to a behavior which moves an individual through achieving a goal . The most complicated and difficult task which involves a multiplicity of psycho sociological and linguistic factors is motivating students in the English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom, ( Dornyei, 1998; 2010a); Although, most English teachers will assert to the crucial role motivation plays in the realm of teaching and learning process. Many SLA researchers hold this view point that studying motivation is prominent, owing to they believed learners even those with the most abilities can not achieve long term goals without sufficient motivation. In other words, good instruction and appropriate curriculum might not be enough to guarantee success. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The South The Impact of Structure in Borge s The South Ordinarily, a short story is characterized by the inclusion of crucial details, consistent characters, linear plots, and a significant closure; Argentine novelist Jorge Luis Borges 20th century compilation of short stories, Ficciones, defies these characteristics, and, upon its release, conclusively revolutionized the genre. Such fictions hold incomplete backgrounds, thinly sketched characters, non linear plots, and open ended conclusions. The emerging genre, affectionately titled Borgesian Literature, is illustrative of the aforementioned qualities, where texts under this genre are often composed of concise language with critical detail laced throughout the narrative. • 4. Why Did The Confederate Lose The Civil War Analysis 1. Why did the Confederacy lose the Civil War? What changes in military strategy, commanders, and prosecution of the war finally secured Union victory in the end? Multiple factors contributed to the Confederacy losing the Civil War; a lack of resources for the South, a change in military strategy from the Southern leadership, the failures of the Confederate leadership to combat evolving Union aggressive military strategy, and prosecution of Union prisoners of war. First, the South had a myriad of disadvantages when compared to the North is terms of a lack of resources i.e. people a five to two advantage favoring the North, military industrial complex also favoring the North, and draft animals, most of which were in the North. The Union s resolve to finish re unification was strengthened by contempt for the Confederacy s treatment of Union soldiers during the war, specifically black soldiers, which became relevant after the1863 Emancipation Proclamation became official and black soldiers joined the army. The event that sparked anger in the North took place on July 1863 when several prisoners from the 54th Massachusetts were not exchanged with the rest of the white soldiers who participated is the assault on Fort Wagner. This led Lincoln to issue General Order 252, which effectively suspended the Dix Hill Cartel until Confederate forces agreed to treat black prisoners the same as white prisoners. This led to a large scale effort to house captured soldiers on both sides. This however led to South erecting one of the most notorious prisoner of war camps Andersonville Prison. The first inmates began arriving at Andersonville prison on February 1864, while it was still being constructed. Andersonville became necessary after the prisoner exchange system between the North and South collapsed in 1863 over disagreements about the handling of black soldiers. The Union soldiers imprisoned at Andersonville suffered horrible conditions under the camp warden ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pros And Cons Of Slippery Slope Slippery Slope Argument One of the most controversial topics regarding euthanasia has got to do with the Slippery Slope . It states that when one exception to the law is followed by more exceptions. There may come a time when all that was considered unacceptable, will become acceptable. For now only voluntary euthanasia is legal. According to hypothesis of the Slippery Slope soon non voluntary and involuntary euthanasia may follow. For example Physician Assisted Suicide (PAS) which was once a last resort is being considered as a first in many countries. In Netherlands there has been an increase of 20% of euthanasia cases per year since 2006. In 2005 according to Groningen protocol, euthanasia was allowed on newborns and younger children who are expected to have no hope of a quality life. In Belgium there has been a 500% in euthanasia deaths since 2003 to 2012 which is one the rise. The patients with the strongest case of such requests are the HIV infected and cancer patients. • 6. Twelve Angry Men Character Analysis The way one person treats another is often a direct reflection of how they view themselves. People with poor self images are often quick to judge, demean, belittle, and rebuke others for their mistakes, shortcomings and flaws, simply out of spite or to protect their own reputation. This is true even in the 1957 MGM film Twelve Angry Men, where eleven of the twelve jurors attempt to convict a young man not based off of sound evidence, but off of personal prejudice and self righteousness alone. It was the leadership of the eighth juror, however, that convinced the other jurors to set aside their personal biases to acquit the young man accused of killing his father. In the film, the eighth juror, Mr. Davis, analyzes the self images of the other eleven jurors and displays the core values of humility, patience and mercy in order to lead the group to the consensus that the accused is not guilty. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines humility as the quality or state of being humble and freedom from pride or arrogance . Humility, simply put, is the opposite of prejudice. In the film, many of the jurors enter the room with preconceived notions, falsified beliefs and irrational ideas about the accused. Others enter the room unsure of their vote and to protect their pride, immediately side with the jurors who believe the young man is guilty. Examples of this include how several of the jurors stereotype the accused on the basis of race and how the third juror in particular forms a bias against the young man simply because of his age and the fact that the young man reminds him of his son. Mr. Davis, however, takes another stance. In the book The Achievement Habit: Stop Wishing, Start Doing and Take Command of Your Life, Dr. Bernard Roth states that true mindfulness is seeing without judging (Roth 205). Mr. Davis perfectly models this quote as he approaches the issue with sympathy towards the young man in regard to his upbringing. On an analytical level, the screenplay convincingly moves the audience to side with Mr. Davis through the use of honest dialogue that allows viewers to put their trust in what Mr. Davis says. The validity of Mr. Davis claims also stems from the profile of his character crafted by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Upon the gallows, she is ordered to reveal the name of the father of her child yet she remains steadfast in her resolve to remain silent and create a life for herself and Pearl. This decision allows the reader to understand the tension that the puritan way of life created for all of the citizens. The novel begins with the story of the narrator and his role within his customs house duties two hundred years after Hester s story ended. The narrator s story is a direct reflection of Hester s story and has many of the same symbolisms. Within the custom house the narrator is surrounded by men who are the embodiment of do as I say not as I do. He is also isolated within his own community much like Hester was in Boston. The Scarlet Letter is an example of early drama that was created by strong symbols including nature vs nurture, evil and original sin. • 10. Romanticism In Oliver Twist Introduction: In mid 19th century England, realistic literature came as a response to the preceding romantic period. The romantic period was known to emphasize the experiences of the individual and was regarded as a highly aesthetic period. It was related with the movement of sensibility or sentimentalism, which stressed the importance of emotions and feelings of sympathy (Kitson 328 329). Contrarily, realism during the Victorian age aimed to address economic and social issues in society by depicting the struggles in the developing society as accurately as possible (Redd). Consequently, in the 1830s, when Charles Dickens was writing Oliver Twist, it is justifiable that elements of both realism and sentimentalism can be found in the novel. This ... Most notably, Dickens depiction of London (in particular the workhouses and other social institutions) and his criminal characters have a very prominent realistic effect. However before going into detail about the realistic setting and characters, it would be beneficial to take a look at Dickens preface for Oliver Twist. In his preface for Oliver Twist, Dickens justifies his reasons for writing about the criminals of London; he had the impression that real thieves and pickpockets were not portrayed correctly in literature during that time. For that reason, he felt that it was necessary to show these crooks as they really were, for ever skulking uneasily through the dirtiest paths of life (7). He also believed that doing this would be a service to society , and that he did it as best as [he] could . He explains that he won t be writing about appealing and pleasant situations; ...no merry makings in the snuggest of all possibly caverns, none of the attractions of dress, no embroidery, no lace... (8). In essence, this preface foreshadows the realistic elements in the novel by telling the readers where to look. Clearly the characters and setting will be portrayed as honestly and truthfully as possible, without overlooking even one hole in the Dodger s coat, or one scrap of curl paper in Nancy s dishevelled hair (9) and describing the cold wet shelterless midnight streets of London; the foul and frowsy dens, where vice is closely packed and lacks the room to turn [...] ... • 11. One Is Truth By Emerson Rhetorical Analysis Emerson s essay on friendship is one of the most remembered and highly respected essays dating back to the 19th century. The information given in the essay is extremely valuable and has helped to explain the universal truth that is friendship. Emerson s essay on friendship is his way of delineating the paths of coherence. These parts fall into two distinct kinds. The first is the consistent enunciation of a view which is the master tone that Emerson uses from essay to essay while the second is the internal linking of the views in the essay. Some scholars have argued that Emerson s views on friendship are strange and radical while others feel that his logic is sound and valid. We parry and fend the approach of our fellow man by compliments, by gossip, by amusements, by affairs. We cover up our thought from him under a hundred folds. In addition, Emerson uses sound understanding and logic to present his view of friendship. In one way that he does this is by his statement, emotions of benevolence and complacency which apperceived towards others. Emerson s words show the remarks either abstract or generalized, in regards to friendship. This is noticed when Emerson s words move away from the abstract and generalized remarks on his experience with friendship. It was revealed in 1929 by German anatomist Ernest Schwarz that a skull once thought belonging to a juvenile chimpanzee was in fact a new subspecies of chimpanzee known now as the Pan paniscus, or bonobo. (Waal 6) During the Pleistocene epoch approximately 1.5 million years ago, the Congo River was formed in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. (Primate Info Net) On an interesting note, some taxonomists suggest putting both chimpanzees and bonobo s in the same Genus as humans, Homo, due to genetic similarities in the species because both are humans closest genetic relatives. • 13. Britain s Political And Religious Structure During The... Between the years 1529 1588 and in the Tudor era, Britain saw perhaps the biggest changes in its political and religious structure in its history. It changed from Catholicism to Protestantism, then back and back again. It also saw major changes in who ran the country, with more involvement from parliament. Different chief ministers (including Thomas Cromwell) had different impacts on Britain and the monarch, and the influence of them will be assessed in this essay. Thomas Wolsey was born in 1475, and rose his way the top. Before being made a cardinal, he became a priest and a successful politician, and he was the almoner (in charge of distributing funds to the poor) when Henry came to the throne in 1509. Wolsey held several important positions. He was the Bishop of Lincoln, Canon of Windsor and also Prince Bishop of Durham. One accomplishment that Wolsey is particularly remembered for, is organising the Field of The Cloth Of Gold. This was a festival planned to celebrate the alliance between England and France, with both monarchs, Henry VIII and Francis I strengthening their relationship. The treaty of London was also a huge accomplishment for Wolsey, as he was the one who designed the 1518 treaty. It was a non aggression pact between the major European nations, (France, England, Holy Roman Empire, the Papacy, Spain, Burgundy and the Netherlands), all of whom agreed not to attack one another and come to aid if needed. It wasn t long till a group of four guys asked to join them. As the men pulled up chairs they concentrated heavily to one side of the table. It didn t take long to figure out they were all pining after the more attractive of the two women. Why does the pretty woman get all the attention and free drinks, and her homely friend blends into the wallpaper? We all know attractive people get treated better. It s so ingrained in human evolution to chase after attractive qualities, and it shapes our every day lives. Advertising is a good example of our affinity for beauty. Magazines, television, billboards, and Internet pop up ads use attractive people to sell products. We end up chasing products that we believe will make us healthier, better looking, or covers our physical flaws. They get beautiful models and actresses to make consumers think the product is what makes the models and actresses attractive. This tactic is so effective because it plays on our desire to be attractive. The more attractive we are the better sexual mates we can attract. As lesbians, we assume we have a certain amount of gaydar ingrained within us, like it s a prerogative. We think that we have the capability to pinpoint any woman in a crowd and say Yes! She s one of us. But where does this presumed gaydar come from? Is it a feeling we get, a judgment of mannerisms, something we see in ourselves reflected in others, or is it simply what people wear? Do short hair, plaid shirts, Jordan s and ties delineate what we perceive a lesbian to be? Gaydar is probably a conglomeration of all these attributes, but we can t deny that the most conventional and simplest way to ascertain someone s sexual orientation is from what they re wearing. The next songs, Ivy and Pink and White, are polar opposites about love, where in Ivy, Ocean talks about how he failed to keep a relationship going on, and in Pink and White he sings about intimate love and good long term relationships. For one thing, Morrison s most important character, a blind old woman, is stated outright to be American. Not only that, she is the widely respected child of slaves, so she is very deeply tied into both the good and bad of America s past (Morrison). She also alludes numerous times to American history and culture, especially in the conclusion of her speech, which comes in the form of a rapid succession of powerful images. The last of these is of a wagonload of slaves three years before the Civil War, whose lives are saved from a frigid winter (however momentarily) by the kindness of two youths (Morrison). Not only is this clearly tied into American history, it also contains the distinctly American values of hope in the face of death, like the colonists had against the crushing odds of the Revolutionary War, and unity in spire of differences after all, the children are most likely white considering they had just exited an inn the slaves wouldn t have been allowed into that would eventually lead to the passage of every Civil Rights law in the nation s history (Morrison). Morrison uses an allegory to the Tower of Babel, saying that if the builders of the Tower had simply learned to communicate with one another, they would not have had to seek heaven because they would have already reached it (Morrison). The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms Since its inception in 1982 the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, very much like its primary architect Pierre Trudeau, has been one of the most celebrated yet controversial elements of Canadian politics and governance. Revealing how this dynamic emerged requires a nuanced understanding of the motivation behind the Charter and the techniques it employed to succeed. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, like the entire patriation process, was motivated by and mobilized support through, constitutionally enshrining democratic core values, multiculturalism and a sense of nationalism. However, it should not be seen as merely a symbolic gesture on the part of Britain and Canada or merely a strengthening of core values. Instead it was a fundamental reinvention of Canadian federalism that shifted power away from the provinces to the federal government and from the Parliament to the courts. This was accomplished by incentivizing provincial acceptance, developing common interests, and, as a result, formalizing a national identity where the protection and expansion of core values was encouraged as fundamental. This dynamic allowed the reinvention to, by and large, succeed. An understanding of the provisions and effects of the Charter and how it ultimately succeed as a re invention of the Canadian Government requires knowledge of the patriation process. I have always been interested in arts and crafts since I was a child. I used to sit and draw images and people in most of my free time. • 40. Analysis Of The Soldier By Rupert Brookes War is a horrible thing that can negatively change peoples lives forever. During world war one many poets wrote about the good and bad they saw in war. Rupert Brookes Had a very positive view on war. In his poem The Soldier he shows war as a great way to see the world and make new friends, when really its quite the opposite. Wilfred Owens portrays war as a thing not of glory but of death and suffering. His poem Dulce et Decorum est shows the terror of gas attacks and tries to convince the readers that it s really not worth dying for your country. This Essay will argue through the use of language features and quotes how we see big differences between views on war. Through two short poems we re shown that it s glorious and gracious to die for your country, and then that its all a trick to get more soldiers into the terrible trenches to try and turn the tide of the battle. Rupert Brookes has a very positive view on war. Throughout his poem The Soldier he uses words with soft and positive connotations to show that war is really a nice thing. If I should die, think only this of me: That there s some corner of a foreign field that is forever England The metaphor creates the impression that when you die in war you live on through a new life. This is shown again through the allusion Washed by the rivers, blest by the suns of home. This represents a baptism almost, showing as if when you die in war, you are reborn. Brookes uses the metaphor and allusion to make us wonder about what would happen if he were to pass. He shows that even if he dies he won t stop living as he will always be there in that small but meaningful corner of the empty field. Then he will be reborn, cleansed and freed by the chains of war. The use of all the gentle and upbeat words, gives off the feeling that war is a great thing and that its worth fighting for your country as you will be rewarded after death with a new life, to be cleansed and reborn. The poem convinced thousands of young men to go and fight for their country during the first world war. Many of them would go on to die and never return home to see their families ever again. Wilfred Owens view on war is the opposite to Brookes. In his poem Dulce et Decorum est he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though Deming, Juran, and Crosby all have similarities between their key principles in quality management there are several aspects that are different to the approaches. They all recognize the importance of measurement to improve quality; however, the level of importance each emphasizes is different. Crosby and Juran view the cost of quality as the focus of measurement whereas Deming does not use the cost of quality as a focus (Suarez, 1992, p.18). To Deming, meeting the customers needs and expectations about a product or service is of higher importance to quality. He also considers unknown costs such as the impact of lost customers to be more significant than visible costs (Suarez, 1992, p.18). Deming, Juran, and Crosby all define quality in different ways. Deming defines quality as a continuous improvement and the ultimate goal is zero defects; however, he realizes an error free product may not be economically feasible or practical (Kerzner, 2009, p. 880). Deming also states a product or service is defined by the customer and quality is a relative term and will change based on the customer s needs (Suarez, 1992, p.3) Juran s definition of quality focuses 100% of the customer s satisfaction of the product. He stresses a balance between product features and products free from deficiencies and believes a quality product is free from deficiencies (Suarez, 1992, p.4). In order to achieve this ...
