The Benefits of a Gender-Neutral Housing Facility
Introduction There are at least 54 universities and colleges which have, in the past 10 years, instated
the gender neutral housing and option for the students (National Student, 2012). These options have
been implemented in various different ways in the colleges and universities. There are universities
such as the Brandeis University that only provides the upper class students with the option of gender
neutral housing whereas, in the Hampshire College, students from any year can have any roommate
that they want even if they are from the opposite sex. Rutgers University also allows the upper class
students with the option of living in gender neutral housing; this option was implemented in the
university after a student committed suicide as he was being victimized by a homophobic. In case of
Harvard University only the self identified transgender students are allowed to live in the gender
neutral houses. The possible reason for this increasing trend of gender neutral housing in many
colleges and universities is the fact that these universities have accepted the fact that the sex
segregated housing can t fulfill the needs of all the students studying and living there (Students for a
Democratic Society, 2012). This paper thus analyzes the impact that the growing popularity of gender
neutral housings has had on the overall academic environment. The gender group chosen for this paper
is the stereotypes of the self identified homosexuals. What are the advantages and

Differences Of Communicative Competence And Applied...
Communicative Competence and Applied Linguistics
Language teaching is a challenging task for many teachers and educators.
Teachers try to manipulate the different theories and methods while teaching any language to achieve
the best outcomes of learning. Applied linguistics is one of the most important fields that focuses on
the implementation of different methods and theories, detecting the popping problems and analyzing
theses problems to find the best solutions in for teachers. It is mainly the field of study that identifies,
investigates and offers solution to any language problems related to real life situation. Since applied
linguistics is related to real life problems, communicative competence is also an important part in the

language ability framework (Yule 1996:197). This indicates the relationship between linguistic and
communication. Communicative competence is also referred to as linguistic competence according to
Yule; and this shows that language is communication and communication is not completed without
using the appropriate and understandable language. Therefore, it can be said that the main difference
between the Communicative competence and the Linguistic is that the linguistic competence belongs

Communicative Competence or language knowledge that the students or native learners have. As

linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic . The first one refers to knowing how to use the
grammar, syntax, and vocabulary of a language. Linguistic competence focuses on the terms of using

Fred Hollows Significance in Promoting Change for...
Introduction
Good morning/ afternoon,
My name is Mary Doe and it is an honour to represent the Queensland Youth Parliament during
reconciliation week. This presentation will focus on Fred Hollows significance in promoting change
for Indigenous Australia. As you may well know Fred Hollows was an able advocate for Indigenous
health and focused much of his life on ending curable blindness among numerous Indigenous
communities.
Paragraph 1 Who is Fred Hollows and what were his main achievements.
Fred Hollows was born in New Zealand in 1929. He was not only a terrific ophthalmologist but also a
skilled surgeon and social justice activist, as he believed everyone was equal due to his respectful and
non judgemental family upbringing. Initially Fred wanted to work in the church but later changed his
mind to medicine after working in a mental health hospital. At the age of 22, he started Medical school
at the University of Otago and then in 1965 to continue his ophthalmologic work.
Paragraph 2 Career beginnings
Fred started his medical career by attending the University of Otago Medical School in 1951, at the
age of 22. Fred held many different positions in his early career including being a medical intern, a
house surgeon and a clinician before specialising in Ophthalmology. After qualifying as an
ophthalmologist Fred worked all around New Zealand including Wellington Hospital, which was the

Jersey Shore Character Analysis
Jersey Shore was a television show that aired in 2009 it was a reality based look at the vapid lives of
several Italians in their twenties and their respective friends and hookups. Throughout the series, there
were numberless acts of the violent outburst, alcoholic behaviors, and sexual content all on camera. In
a journal written by J. Johnson, he states that evidence suggests that television s influence on children
and adolescents is related to how much time they spend watching television (Johnson) and when a
child is constantly watching these inappropriate shows they tend to pick up the behavior. First to take
a look at the explicit language and violent outburst which can be categorized together as aggression.

Self-Destruction In Shakespeare s Othello
Othello, was written and published in 1622 by William Shakespeare, one of the greatest writers known
in English time. Othello is the story of love, backstabbing, and power. Othello, a general in Venice,
comes into conflict with himself and many others during the war between the Turks and Venice.
However, at the time Venice was the center for buying and trading , which led to disruption and
conflict arising from greed, social status and competition among soldiers. Among the multiple of
intertied themes in Othello, The primary theme of Othello is the power of self destruction caused by
the struggles of self and jealousy, because of Othello s, insecurities, narcissistic behavior.
At the beginning of the play Othello is the war hero who is accused of brainwashing Desdemona,
Othello s wife. His friend Iago, the antagonist, doesn t just want to harm him, he wants to completely
destroy him. Iago uses Cassio s, The person Othello gave a promotions to instead of Iago,to drive the

The Yellow Wallpaper Research Paper
A tale of Two Ghosts: The Yellow Wallpaper and the Things they Carried
When people think of normal ghost stories they think of stories told around the campfire. Like a ghost
of a one handed axe murder that kills kids that venture out into the woods, or the ghost of a kid who
drowned in the lake and seeks vengeance on every camper that comes there. Many people don t
associate ghost stories with tales like Macbeth and Hamlet by Shakespeare. Or other works of
literature like the Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and the Things they Carried by Tim
O Brien. Both tales are great examples of a unconventional ghost story not normally told around the
campfire, because of the hidden underlying ghost .
The Yellow Wallpaper starts out normal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Making the room seem more prisonlike then homely. It is within that room that the reader is first
introduced to the ghost . As time goes on the narrator begins to see a woman behind this ghastly
yellow wallpaper that she is forced to look at every day. We are introduced to this wallpaper as a
woman that is stooping down and creeping behind that pattern (Gilman 72). As the story progresses
the narrator begins to see the woman more and more clearly behind this yellow wallpaper. The outside
pattern I mean, and the woman behind it is as plain as can be (73). The longer the story goes the more
the reader begins to understand who the woman is. Behind the Yellow Wallpaper lie our narrator and
her thoughts and emotions. Like the woman she sees behind the yellow wallpaper she feels trapped
without a way out. And the ghost is what she sees within herself. Both are being kept inside during the
daytime while they want to be outside being active. As we progress the woman behind the wallpaper
shakes and moves more agitated, as the narrator herself becomes more agitated and trying to break
free in a sense. What the reader comes to understand within the story is that the narrator isn t trying to
break out of the room, but rather break out of the submissive relationship she has with her husband.
And the ghost behind the wallpaper represents

Recidivism In Juveniles Essay
Juveniles offenders demonstrate higher rates of substance abuse indifference to non offending
juveniles. Recidivism increases more often with substance abuse and mirrors a deeper involvement in
the juvenile justice system. The likelihood that a youthful offender will have extensive interaction
with the system is in part due to drugs and alcohol use. Substance abuse has also produced rebellious
behavior in juveniles. More serious offenses are linked with severe substance abuse and increase the
rates of offending. Moreover, the younger the child is at the beginning of substance use usually
reflects greater chances for severe and continuing offending. Potential prognostication includes

I believe that the geographic environment of where these juveniles live is also a factor when the
involvement of substance abuse is present when dealing with recidivism, meaning how easy it is to
access drugs and alcohol. The root of the problem starts either two places at home or within the
juvenile s peer relationships. There are currently 15 juvenile drug courts here in Michigan. There is a
specialized docket within the juvenile or family court system, which selects delinquency cases. In
some cases, status offenders are designated a certain Judge. Because the juveniles have problems with
drugs and/ or alcohol the youths are referred to this docket. The juvenile drug treatment court judge
maintains close oversight of each case through regular status hearings with the parties and their
guardians. There is a team of representatives from treatment, juvenile justice, social and mental health
services, school, vocational training programs, law enforcement, probation, the prosecution, and the
defense and this is all coordinated by the judge that oversees the whole thing. Over the course of a
year or more, the team meets frequently (often weekly), determining how best to address the substance
abuse and related problems of the youth and his or her family that have brought the youth into contact

Implementing A Comprehensive Audit Plan Essay
Abstract
This paper will discuss the hot topics in emerging issues that was discussed in previous assignments.
Several companies can benefit from finding ways to implement a comprehensive audit plan to reduce
the likelihood of fraud occurring. Ideas associated with the SDLC and how to create phases that will
fall in line with this execution are also detailed in this assignment. The SDLC assists in reducing fraud
and cannot be applied lightly; this plan makes the process of fraud prevention and detection easier to
succumb. Updating policies and procedures is an ongoing process that cannot go unkempt.
Establishing a Comprehensive Audit Plan
The acronym SDLC is explained as a software development lifecycle. The phases of the SDLC
include analysis and definition phases, where the purpose should be determined, the goals that need to
be accomplished, and a set of definite requirements. Establishing a comprehensive audit plan is
integral in fulfilling the successful and quality financials for a business. This should be done at the
inception of creating the company as well as routinely checked on a consistent basis. This used in
accordance with the Sarbanes Oxley Act will guarantee that the company has a sure way to mitigate
the fraud opportunity that may occur during the time of day to day operations (Strayer University
2013).
A fraud detection plan will provide the blueprint for a healthy environment in the aspect of protecting
the company and its assets. The plan will give a

We capture, contain, and control the very wildness of these animals, we so admire them for. We
decorate a large bucket of water, or a box of bars to resemble a shallow shadow of the wilderness they
should be in. These animals held captive in collective groups as a means to entertain us. We are
trading the wonder of nature, seen in it s own wilderness area for animal showmanship and
entertainment. Losing the remarkable sensations of hope and renewal we experience, as we stand in a
wilderness land, quietly observing animals and nature in the wildly beautiful and raw lands. The
absence of our own lack of realization that nature and the wild places we call the wilderness are under
attack. They are in danger of being beyond repair. It overwhelms the senses, and is not to be tolerated.
That is the message William s words left echoing in my mind. Invisible seeds, deep in my awakening
imagination. William s words, written with her pen, that acts not as a pen, but more like a sword
striking out against environmental injustices. Clever words, delivered with careful and planned
precision. Crafted to alert, outrage and then inspire in each of us. To become environmentally and

The Importance Of Industrialization
The early 19th century was a time of technological innovations that took the United States to a new
level of commerce. During this time, the cotton gin, steamboats, power looms, and even the telegraph
were invented (Swen). As these inventions continued to improve the way of life, the nation continued
to spread northeast and west to discover new land. Where a stagecoach may have taken months to
transport goods from east to west, the railroad could transport the merchandise cross country in just a
few days. Lastly, communication through the telegraph simplified the need for the pony express.
Although these inventions changed how these people lived their life, was it all for the best? Were
sacrifices made as individuals, as a family, or even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now instead of controlling their own future, the nation will become dependent on other people to
succeed in life. Factories did not just hire the man of the family, it hired the whole family. Children
worked in the factories as young as the age of seven which is when Sam Patch first started at Samuel
Slaters White Mill (Johnson p 30). Since the children were small they could get under the machinery
and keep things clear so the machines would continue to run. Some factories primarily hired young
women to operate their facility. As stated in Morals of Manufactures (1837), young women would
leave their families to live in boarding houses owned by the factories (Martineau). This concept was to
protect the women from the evils of the world. They were required to work fourteen hours a day with
thirty minutes for eating twice a day. If that was not bad enough, many slept five people to a room.
Lack of space and privacy prevented them from wondering about life outside the factory. Harriet
Martineau was very concerned with the life these women were being forced to live and the freedoms
they were not allowed to have such as participating in dances. She felt they were no better off than
slaves based on their living and working conditions. If that was not enough, some of the factory
owners tried to extend the work day while governing meal times. This created family conflict because
not all factories were on the same schedule.

Abstract No one on earth can escape the sounds of noise an unwanted, disturbing sound that causes a
nuisance in the eye of the beholder. Noise is a disturbance to the human environment that is escalating
at such a high rate that it will become a major threat to the quality of human lives. In the past thirty
years, noise in all areas, especially in urban areas, have been increasing rapidly. There are numerous
effects on the human environment due to the increase in noise pollution. In the following paper, the
cause and effects of noise pollution will be presented in some detail. Slowly, insensibly, we seem to

This type of exposure to noise does not have to be as loud as a gun being fired; it can be as simple as a
person shouting across the room. The type of hearing loss is any degree from partial to complete
hearing loss. This loss, usually, is permanent and is not satisfactorily corrected by any devices such as,
hearing aids. The loss is caused by the destruction of the delicate hair cells and their auditory nerve
connections in the Organ of Corti, which is contained in the cochlea (Bugliarello, et al., 1976). Every
exposure to loud noise destroys some cells, but prolonged exposure damages a larger amount of cells,
and ultimately collapses the Organ of Corti, which causes deafness.
Most of society is now aware that noise can damage hearing. However, short of a threat that disaster
would overtake the human race if nothing is done about noise, it is unlikely that many people today
would become strongly motivated to do something about the problem. Yet, the evidence about the ill
effects of noise does not allow for complacency or neglect. For instance, researchers working with
children with hearing disorders are constantly reminded of the crucial importance of hearing to
children. In the early years the child cannot learn to speak without special training if he has enough
hearing loss to interfere effectively with the hearing of words in context

Literacy, apart from learning how to read and write, means to have the capability to pick up any piece

My grandmother, an English teacher, single handedly had the greatest impact upon the development of
my reading skills. She was very particular about the way me and my siblings would convey ideas.
When I was a child she used to give me prompts to read and write about so that I could broaden my

John Gay s The Beggar s Opera
Wrought with double irony and an overall sense of mock pastoral, English playwright John Gay s The
Beggar s Opera (1728) expresses the ironic dynamic between the central characters Macheath and
Peachum. Even the names of the characters comically resemble their occupations within the play,
Peachum s being a play on the word peach which means to bring one to trial, while Macheath s
meaning son of heath and being a play on the heaths of London, which were prime places for
highwaymen (Tillotson et al.). While Gay used both characters as a political satire towards Jonathan
Wild and the then Prime Minister Robert Walpole (after all, The Beggar s Opera was a political satire
first and a potential literary commentary second), they also mocked the traditional roles of hero and
villain by switching their positions in an ironic fashion. Throughout the play, Peachum expresses how,
despite his rather nefarious act of peaching criminals, he does not view himself as a villain. Rather, he
views himself as a tragic hero, reigning high above the cheats of the world and putting them in their
rightful place: whether it be the gallows or under his thumb. Such a concept creates the second layer
of irony, the first being that, conventionally, Peachum fits many of the characteristics of a tragic hero.
He conscientiously sees what he his doing as righteous a trait of the pastoral hero. Within the first
scene of the play, Peachum compares his occupation of peaching to a lawyer s, both

Re: Racial Disparity in Dallas County
April 16, 2017
Issue Presented: How can the societal issues of racial disparity be addressed on the state and local

Short Answer: Some of the key historical events that are referenced most often in regard to racial
disparity include the unarmed beating of Rodney King, the racial profiling of a black Harvard
professor, and the many unwarranted shootings and deaths of black men across the nation. But for
these few named instances, these are the ones that are indicative of the many differences that mold the

These infants will sometimes make the mistake referred to as the A not B mistake. If an object is
repeatedly hidden in a particular place, an infant of this age will continue to look for the object there
despite the fact that they may have watched you hide the object in another place. Infants this age are
working according to an automatic process. By the time they are in the fifth sub stage between the
ages of twelve and eighteen months infants tend to grow out of this automatic processing and they
begin to search for an object in the last place that they saw it hidden. Once an infant reaches the last
sub stage between the ages of eighteen and twenty four months he has mastered all the is to know
about object permanence according to Piaget(Siegler Alibali, 2005). Since Piaget made these claims
there have been many experiments done that sought to disprove the claims that Piaget made. These
experiments thought that Piaget was giving infants far less credit than they deserved. Other
developmental psychologist wanted to prove that in fact infants learned the concept of object
permanence at a much earlier age than Piaget first proposed. People came up with many different
ideas as to why the infants failed to reach or search for objects that were hidden. They wouldn t go as

New Era of Cyberpunk Literature Essay
Through years of advancements in the world, technology has become greatest aspect. The
development of technology by incorporating the human mind and culture has brought about a new era.
These are the criteria of cyberpunk literature, in which William Gibson s Johnny Mnemonic is a good
example of cyberpunk literature. The novel reflects on how the human mind has been incorporated
into the advanced technological world. This relates to cyberpunk literature because it follows the same
ideas, but to a greater extent. Elmer Dewitt s Cyberpunk and Sterling s Preface to Mirrorshades both
give an excellent criteria to cyberpunk literature in both aspects of culture and mind.

Dewitt excellently shows the relationship of the physical mind with technology and computers. The
cyberpunks look at those wires from the inside: they talk to the network as if it were an actual place a
virtual reality that can be entered, explored and manipulated. (Dewitt 60) This shows how the idea of
cyberpunk literature is interconnected with technology as one. It allows people to express themselves
in different ways. The idea of virtual reality was also presented in the novel Johnny Mnemonic when
he is connected to the machine to extract his memories. The story clearly relates to this idea because it
incorporates the mind conjoined with technology. and one day I ll have a surgeon dig out all the
silicone out of my amygdale, and I ll live with my own memories and nobody else s (Sterling 12 13).
This shows how this type of technology could be too influential in this aspect. Although, it is made
clear in cyberpunk literature that it incorporates the idea of technology and the human mind as
working together.
The second criterion of cyberpunk literature is integration of culture and technology. These aspects
relate to how people join together and make technology and computers part of their culture and
lifestyle. People have become more united because of cyber communities that have developed. The
idea of using computers to communicate with one another is a great example of cyberpunk literature.

To What Extent Was The Roman Republic Democratic
To what extent was the Roman Republic Democratic? In Roman society, the aristocrafts we know as
patricians. For example, the Roman constitution has three elements. The Senate proposes laws and has
the control of the treasury. For instance Although nominally allied with Rome, the League offered
only tepid support to the Roman army in its campaign against the Kingdom of Macedonia. Born in
Megalopolis in Arcadia, central southern Greece, around 201 B.C., Polybius was the son of Lycoris, a
prominent politician of the Achaean League, which united most of the city states of the Peloponnesian

Empathy Is Extremely Important For Children
Empathy is extraordinarily important for children to understand and eventually put into practice, as it
exercises their ability to feel and respect the emotions of other people. Empathy also plays a big role
in trust and support both of which are very important aspects of any relationship, and is necessary for
living a healthy, functional life in today s society. In her article, Dovey describes A 2011 study
published in the Annual Review of Psychology [...] showed that, when people read about an
experience, they display stimulation within the same neurological regions as when they go through
that experience themselves. (Dovey par. 11). This means that when people, or in this case, children,
read stories, their brains react as if they were going through the same situations and emotions that they
read about. This is a great way for kids to learn about empathy, why it s important, and how to apply it
to their own lives. One may argue that, while reading may trigger empathetic feelings in the majority
of people, those who enjoy reading have greater empathetic tendencies than others, making reading to
teach empathy only applicable to those who like to read and have these higher than average
tendencies. Dovey also addresses this, stating that other studies published in 2006 and 2009 showed
[...] that people who read a lot of fiction [tended] to be better at empathizing with others (even after
the researchers had accounted for the potential bias that people with greater empathetic

Essay Mapping The Violence in Colombia
Mapping The Violence in Colombia
The peace researcher Johan Galtung proposes a typology of violence, constructed as direct and
indirect, formal informal and visible invisible. Regarding it as a triangle, Galtung (1990) states that
typology of violence corresponds roughly to the ABC levels of the conflict triangle: Attitude,
Behaviour and Contradictions. In the first level Direct violence (acts of violence as such) and in
second and third level underneath the surface; Structural violence and Cultural violence. See figure
below.
The Structural Violence concept by Galtung (1969) asserts that the structure and culture in societies
are a central facet on the explanation of violence; thus, human beings are being influenced so that ...

Therefore, to define violence is a highly intricate process that has taken many decades for social
researchers. Violence is understood differently in the cities than the countryside, in the north and
south, and in places directly affected by conflict (see appendix 1). In general terms, the characteristics
that intersect the general violent map in the whole country can be summed up in four types; structural,
institutional, cultural and interpersonal. Violence and survival are another two elements to analyse, as
citizens have created mechanisms of co existence with violence by fitting the rules of paramilitary,
guerrilla, drug cartels besides the government structural norms. Therefore, these power agents in the
country condition the behaviour of the population living in the middle of the war.
By applying Galtung s cultural structural violence theories to Colombia, it can be analysed that
references to cultural structural violence in this country can be found from popular culture to politics.
Depicting its reality, TV, soap operas, cinema, journalism, news and literature illustrate violence as a
part of their life where many rough stories are told and some are still happening. The vox populi says
that everyone in Colombia has been exposed to a violent incident either that has happened to them or
somebody close. Inside Colombia, its people see themselves as a disorganised state with diverse
confrontations. In addition, popular culture references

Zynga Case
The company Zynga, which was conceived in 2007 by founder Mark Pincus, became a top company
in the social gaming world. At first, they partnered with Facebook to get their games noticed. Soon
enough, over a billion of their users were playing fun and addicting games like Poker and Words With
Friends. Zynga.org was also created to help donate in game profits to various nonprofit organizations
to help better the future of many individuals through gaming. Not only that, their employees would
also donate to the charity of their desire. A company like this would seem to be one that would excel

Pincus. Pincus founded Zynga in 2007 with the hopes of redefining gaming and bringing people more

Pincus could not handle. First, Pincus ended up having to layoff over 17% of his staff due to
underperformance with the games (Pepitone 1). This had a detrimental effect on the company because
losing a great deal of employees not only results in money loss, but also in loss of productivity. Next,
Pincus was faced with trouble surrounding his games. This trouble occurred when the company was
forced to shutter over a dozen of their games due to loss of active users. Since the first shuttering,
several more have occurred (Pepitone 1). As a result of these losses within the company, Mark Pincus
felt as though he had no choice but to step down as CEO. Although he would step down, he would still

Modern Sensibility In The Tempest By William Shakespeare
Many people argue that among the many literary works composed by William Shakespeare the
tempest treats issues that revolve around reconciliation, forgiveness, and faith in the future generation.
Making use of character Prospero, the Author was able to develop the major themes of the play that in
broader context overthrow the Great chain of being and adopt a modern sensibility. To be in a position
of exposing how Shakespeare addresses the mentioned theme, a consideration of a thesis statement
that attitudes and actions of the main characters in play define the implication a play has on society. To
facilitate an extrapolation of the thesis in consideration, I will first explain what is meant by the
modern sensibility. In connection with artistic or social activities, modern sensibility refers to an
understanding or the ability to decide what is useful and valuable. In a social setting application,
modern sensibility is a way of understanding things to the social ideals of an earlier age. Making use
of character Prospero, the author shows how the ideologies of an individual assume a different
direction after suffering some of the transformation in the society. As the play kicks off, Prospero s
conduct displays a contradiction from the basic tenets of Christian forgiveness. Depending on his good
fortune, the character seizes the opportunity to take vengeance of his enemy. The passage that presents
the central focus of the book is one that Prospero hopes that his plan to

Essay about The Life of Bob Marley
The Life of Bob Marley
While reading Catch a Fire I discovered many things about Bob Marley and his spiritual influence on
the world. Not only just making records, Marley spoke to his people through his songs and took
advantage of the opportunities given to him as a musician.
Born on February 6, 1945, Robert Nesta Marley grew up in a small village in Jamaica called Nine
Miles, where he would shape his personality and early beliefs. His father Norval Marley, a white
Jamaican and a Captain in the Army, would also become inspirational to young Bob. When Bob was
only 16 he produced his first record in Kingston, and in 1963 the original Wailers were formed, a

female back up vocalists called the I Threes, one of whom would eventually become his wife Rita.
In Jamaica at the time Bob was viewed as a mystic and prophet, and was becoming the symbol for a
nation. Seeking re election the Prime Minister asked Bob Marley to stage a free concert on the same
day as the National election, trying to lock up the support of the Marley followers and in turn the
election. This move however resulted in an attempt to end Marley s life.
On the evening of December 3, a number of gunmen arrived at Bob s house on 56 Hope Road and
shot Bob, his wife Rita, and his manager. The gunmen were thought to be the henchmen of the
opposition leader Edward Seaga. Luckily nobody was killed and Bob went ahead with the planned
concert rebelliously appearing with his arm in a sling. The following year during a massive European
concert Bob Marley was diagnosed with melanoma cancer in his big toe, the result of a neglected
football injury.
Later in Jamaica, Bob once again received a request from the political leaders to perform a peace
concert in his native land. Not phased by earlier tragedy he agreed and assembled one of the greatest
concerts ever, the One Love peace concert. Here was where he made history when leaders from the
two opposition parties were persuaded to

Common Misunderstanding about Buddhism
A common misunderstanding of about Buddhism exist today, especially in the concept of
reincarnation. Since the origin of Buddhism derived from India where most people practice Hinduism
during that time, the common misunderstanding is that many people believes that when one passed on
and reincarnate, the individual possess the same souls as the one before. This is wrong because the
Buddhism does not believed in a permanent self in one s body.
The doctrine of Buddhism is to attain enlightenment and be released from the cycle of rebirth and
death, thus attaining Nirvana. Whereas, the doctrine of Hinduism was to escape the cycle of
reincarnation, and attain salvation. In Buddhism, rebirth occurs as a result of ignorance in the
unconscious life stream at the time of death. This term means a mind containing illusion and
defilement such as frustration, greed and selfishness are among them. The unconscious life stream is
considered to be endless stream of energy stretching back into the past and future. It is sometimes
known as the Mind.
Karma, being a powerful energy act upon the unconscious life stream and a rebirth occurs. This new
Rebirth does not occur with the any similar characteristic as the previous person had, because these
characteristics were completely erased during death. The only thing during the rebirth of the person is
the Mind. The mind is also an insubstantial energy, in other words it neither physical nor is it spiritual
properties but supernatural energy

Review of Article on Arsenic Crisis in Bangladesh
Summary: The people of Bangladesh were dying and getting ill from water. This water was provided
through tube wells that were connected to an underground aquifer. Such actions were taken on the
1980 s, when many children died from diarrhea. This project facilitated the lives of many since their
people did not have to walk long distances and carry heavy jars full of water. Unfortunately, the water
was not checked for arsenic. A dermatologist believed the water from the tube wells contained arsenic
but the British Geological Survey insisted it was safe. Today the tubewells are known to have 50
micrograms of arsenic per liter. The article also explains some of the symptoms that could be
experienced after 10 years of consuming arsenic contaminated water, these include: black spots,
conjunctivitis, bronchitis, diarrhea, etc. The Bangladesh government borrowed money but has not yet
taken action since they do not know how to solve this issue. The Bangladesh Rural Advancement
Committee trained 160 volunteers to test the tubewells and identify the symptoms of arsenicosis.
Many of their volunteers also made maps to inform people of safe tubewells and ponds. 1. What was
the purpose or point in writing this article? This article was written to inform people of the hardships
poor countries face and to encourage us to be more involved in issues that concern our health. In the
article, The British Geological Survey reassure the villagers that their water was safe, however, the

Overview:
Financial institutions continues to be challenged by the inherent risks that are associated to the loss of
customer data through the compromise of security controls. As Information Security continues to
grow, the lack of effective security controls such as authentication continues to one of the key
components leading to data breaches across all industries.
For this purpose, SecureKey contracted with a leading independent security governance, risk
management and compliance (GRC) firm Coalfire Systems, Inc., to provide a security review of their
SecureKey briidge.net Connect solution.
Given that, in the age of Internet banking, recent data breaches continue to raise security awareness.
Consequently, many financial institutions are relying on guidance provided by the Federal Financial
Institutions Examination Council ( FFIEC ), in effort to prevent the risk of identity theft and
fraudulent transactions.
Our assessment of the SecureKey briidge.net Connect solution considered FFIEC requirements for
authentication in an Internet Banking Environment. The objectives of our security review included:
1. An assessment of the overall design and architecture of the SecureKey briidge.net Connect solution;

Medieval Weather Patterns
When exploring Europe, Medieval Europe comes to mind. During the Medieval times, the people
began to take on changes. Growth and recovery became major during these times, especially
agriculturally. Weather patterns, society, technological innovations, and agriculture all play important
roles to each other. When thinking weather patterns, one must think why would weather patterns play
a major role? Weather patterns in Europe changed drastically during the medieval years. Europe would
experience harsh, cold weather and warm weather. During the medieval times, the people had no
measuring systems. The people would use natural findings. Some of the natural findings were lake
sediment, arctic ice, tree rings, and any other things of nature. They also made predictions based on
the farmers techniques, cold springs meant late planting (Johnston, 2016b). Along with natural
findings, human behavior and society was also examined and held relations to weather patterns. ...

My Waipio Valley Lesson
Waipio Valley Lessons
In the summer of 2013, my parents and I went to visit family friends in Hawaii. On the sixth day of
our 14 day stay, our friends said they wanted to take us to visit Waipio Valley and do something
special because it was Father s Day. I had seen a shot of the valley lookout in a photo my Gram and
Papa had taken when they visited Hawaii several years before. I thought that it would be a pretty cool
place to go.
I was really excited to see Waipio Valley. I wanted to explore the whole thing but was disappointed
when I saw the private property sign. I thought all I was going to see was the view from the lookout,
but my parents told me that our friends had made arrangements with the farmer who owned the land.
That s awesome! I said. My parents and I were obviously very excited about this, but our excitement
was no match for the adventure we were about to have. Our expectations were immediately put to
shame. The entrance was a hill, not just any hill though. This hill had a 25% grade, which is very

  • 2. The Benefits of a Gender-Neutral Housing Facility Introduction There are at least 54 universities and colleges which have, in the past 10 years, instated the gender neutral housing and option for the students (National Student, 2012). These options have been implemented in various different ways in the colleges and universities. There are universities such as the Brandeis University that only provides the upper class students with the option of gender neutral housing whereas, in the Hampshire College, students from any year can have any roommate that they want even if they are from the opposite sex. Rutgers University also allows the upper class students with the option of living in gender neutral housing; this option was implemented in the university after a student committed suicide as he was being victimized by a homophobic. In case of Harvard University only the self identified transgender students are allowed to live in the gender neutral houses. The possible reason for this increasing trend of gender neutral housing in many colleges and universities is the fact that these universities have accepted the fact that the sex segregated housing can t fulfill the needs of all the students studying and living there (Students for a Democratic Society, 2012). This paper thus analyzes the impact that the growing popularity of gender neutral housings has had on the overall academic environment. The gender group chosen for this paper is the stereotypes of the self identified homosexuals. What are the advantages and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Yellow Wallpaper Research Paper A tale of Two Ghosts: The Yellow Wallpaper and the Things they Carried When people think of normal ghost stories they think of stories told around the campfire. Like a ghost of a one handed axe murder that kills kids that venture out into the woods, or the ghost of a kid who drowned in the lake and seeks vengeance on every camper that comes there. Many people don t associate ghost stories with tales like Macbeth and Hamlet by Shakespeare. Or other works of literature like the Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and the Things they Carried by Tim O Brien. As time goes on the narrator begins to see a woman behind this ghastly yellow wallpaper that she is forced to look at every day. We are introduced to this wallpaper as a woman that is stooping down and creeping behind that pattern (Gilman 72). As the story progresses the narrator begins to see the woman more and more clearly behind this yellow wallpaper. The outside pattern I mean, and the woman behind it is as plain as can be (73). The longer the story goes the more the reader begins to understand who the woman is. Behind the Yellow Wallpaper lie our narrator and her thoughts and emotions. Like the woman she sees behind the yellow wallpaper she feels trapped without a way out. And the ghost is what she sees within herself. Both are being kept inside during the daytime while they want to be outside being active. As we progress the woman behind the wallpaper shakes and moves more agitated, as the narrator herself becomes more agitated and trying to break free in a sense. What the reader comes to understand within the story is that the narrator isn t trying to break out of the room, but rather break out of the submissive relationship she has with her husband. Recidivism increases more often with substance abuse and mirrors a deeper involvement in the juvenile justice system. The likelihood that a youthful offender will have extensive interaction with the system is in part due to drugs and alcohol use. Substance abuse has also produced rebellious behavior in juveniles. I believe that the geographic environment of where these juveniles live is also a factor when the involvement of substance abuse is present when dealing with recidivism, meaning how easy it is to access drugs and alcohol. The root of the problem starts either two places at home or within the juvenile s peer relationships. There are currently 15 juvenile drug courts here in Michigan. There is a specialized docket within the juvenile or family court system, which selects delinquency cases. In some cases, status offenders are designated a certain Judge. Because the juveniles have problems with drugs and/ or alcohol the youths are referred to this docket. The juvenile drug treatment court judge maintains close oversight of each case through regular status hearings with the parties and their guardians. There is a team of representatives from treatment, juvenile justice, social and mental health services, school, vocational training programs, law enforcement, probation, the prosecution, and the defense and this is all coordinated by the judge that oversees the whole thing. Over the course of a year or more, the team meets frequently (often weekly), determining how best to address the substance abuse and related problems of the youth and his or her family that have brought the youth into contact with the ... Several companies can benefit from finding ways to implement a comprehensive audit plan to reduce the likelihood of fraud occurring. Ideas associated with the SDLC and how to create phases that will fall in line with this execution are also detailed in this assignment. The SDLC assists in reducing fraud and cannot be applied lightly; this plan makes the process of fraud prevention and detection easier to succumb. Updating policies and procedures is an ongoing process that cannot go unkempt. Establishing a Comprehensive Audit Plan The acronym SDLC is explained as a software development lifecycle. The phases of the SDLC include analysis and definition phases, where the purpose should be determined, the goals that need to be accomplished, and a set of definite requirements. Since the children were small they could get under the machinery and keep things clear so the machines would continue to run. Some factories primarily hired young women to operate their facility. As stated in Morals of Manufactures (1837), young women would leave their families to live in boarding houses owned by the factories (Martineau). This concept was to protect the women from the evils of the world. They were required to work fourteen hours a day with thirty minutes for eating twice a day. If that was not bad enough, many slept five people to a room. Lack of space and privacy prevented them from wondering about life outside the factory. Harriet Martineau was very concerned with the life these women were being forced to live and the freedoms they were not allowed to have such as participating in dances. She felt they were no better off than slaves based on their living and working conditions. If that was not enough, some of the factory owners tried to extend the work day while governing meal times. The type of hearing loss is any degree from partial to complete hearing loss. This loss, usually, is permanent and is not satisfactorily corrected by any devices such as, hearing aids. The loss is caused by the destruction of the delicate hair cells and their auditory nerve connections in the Organ of Corti, which is contained in the cochlea (Bugliarello, et al., 1976). Every exposure to loud noise destroys some cells, but prolonged exposure damages a larger amount of cells, and ultimately collapses the Organ of Corti, which causes deafness. Most of society is now aware that noise can damage hearing. However, short of a threat that disaster would overtake the human race if nothing is done about noise, it is unlikely that many people today would become strongly motivated to do something about the problem. John Gay s The Beggar s Opera Wrought with double irony and an overall sense of mock pastoral, English playwright John Gay s The Beggar s Opera (1728) expresses the ironic dynamic between the central characters Macheath and Peachum. Even the names of the characters comically resemble their occupations within the play, Peachum s being a play on the word peach which means to bring one to trial, while Macheath s meaning son of heath and being a play on the heaths of London, which were prime places for highwaymen (Tillotson et al.). While Gay used both characters as a political satire towards Jonathan Wild and the then Prime Minister Robert Walpole (after all, The Beggar s Opera was a political satire first and a potential literary commentary second), they also mocked the traditional roles of hero and villain by switching their positions in an ironic fashion. Throughout the play, Peachum expresses how, despite his rather nefarious act of peaching criminals, he does not view himself as a villain. Rather, he views himself as a tragic hero, reigning high above the cheats of the world and putting them in their rightful place: whether it be the gallows or under his thumb. Such a concept creates the second layer of irony, the first being that, conventionally, Peachum fits many of the characteristics of a tragic hero. He conscientiously sees what he his doing as righteous a trait of the pastoral hero. Within the first scene of the play, Peachum compares his occupation of peaching to a lawyer s, both ... In her article, Dovey describes A 2011 study published in the Annual Review of Psychology [...] showed that, when people read about an experience, they display stimulation within the same neurological regions as when they go through that experience themselves. This is a great way for kids to learn about empathy, why it s important, and how to apply it to their own lives. One may argue that, while reading may trigger empathetic feelings in the majority of people, those who enjoy reading have greater empathetic tendencies than others, making reading to teach empathy only applicable to those who like to read and have these higher than average tendencies. Violence is understood differently in the cities than the countryside, in the north and south, and in places directly affected by conflict (see appendix 1). In general terms, the characteristics that intersect the general violent map in the whole country can be summed up in four types; structural, institutional, cultural and interpersonal. Violence and survival are another two elements to analyse, as citizens have created mechanisms of co existence with violence by fitting the rules of paramilitary, guerrilla, drug cartels besides the government structural norms. Therefore, these power agents in the country condition the behaviour of the population living in the middle of the war. By applying Galtung s cultural structural violence theories to Colombia, it can be analysed that references to cultural structural violence in this country can be found from popular culture to politics. Since the origin of Buddhism derived from India where most people practice Hinduism during that time, the common misunderstanding is that many people believes that when one passed on and reincarnate, the individual possess the same souls as the one before. This is wrong because the Buddhism does not believed in a permanent self in one s body. • 30. Review of Article on Arsenic Crisis in Bangladesh Summary: The people of Bangladesh were dying and getting ill from water. This water was provided through tube wells that were connected to an underground aquifer. Such actions were taken on the 1980 s, when many children died from diarrhea. This project facilitated the lives of many since their people did not have to walk long distances and carry heavy jars full of water. Unfortunately, the water was not checked for arsenic. A dermatologist believed the water from the tube wells contained arsenic but the British Geological Survey insisted it was safe. Today the tubewells are known to have 50 micrograms of arsenic per liter. The article also explains some of the symptoms that could be experienced after 10 years of consuming arsenic contaminated water, these include: black spots, conjunctivitis, bronchitis, diarrhea, etc. The Bangladesh government borrowed money but has not yet taken action since they do not know how to solve this issue. The Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee trained 160 volunteers to test the tubewells and identify the symptoms of arsenicosis. Many of their volunteers also made maps to inform people of safe tubewells and ponds. 1. What was the purpose or point in writing this article? A Report On Financial Institutions Overview: Financial institutions continues to be challenged by the inherent risks that are associated to the loss of customer data through the compromise of security controls. As Information Security continues to grow, the lack of effective security controls such as authentication continues to one of the key components leading to data breaches across all industries. For this purpose, SecureKey contracted with a leading independent security governance, risk management and compliance (GRC) firm Coalfire Systems, Inc., to provide a security review of their SecureKey briidge.net Connect solution. Given that, in the age of Internet banking, recent data breaches continue to raise security awareness. Consequently, many financial institutions are relying on guidance provided by the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council ( FFIEC ), in effort to prevent the risk of identity theft and fraudulent transactions. Our assessment of the SecureKey briidge.net Connect solution considered FFIEC requirements for authentication in an Internet Banking Environment. The objectives of our security review included: 1. An assessment of the overall design and architecture of the SecureKey briidge.net Connect solution; 2. Technical evaluations of SecureKey s mobile and web applications authentication capabilities; and 3. Europe would experience harsh, cold weather and warm weather. During the medieval times, the people had no measuring systems. The people would use natural findings. Some of the natural findings were lake sediment, arctic ice, tree rings, and any other things of nature. On the sixth day of our 14 day stay, our friends said they wanted to take us to visit Waipio Valley and do something special because it was Father s Day. I had seen a shot of the valley lookout in a photo my Gram and Papa had taken when they visited Hawaii several years before. I thought that it would be a pretty cool place to go. I was really excited to see Waipio Valley. I wanted to explore the whole thing but was disappointed when I saw the private property sign. I thought all I was going to see was the view from the lookout, but my parents told me that our friends had made arrangements with the farmer who owned the land. That s awesome! I said. My parents and I were obviously very excited about this, but our excitement was no match for the adventure we were about to have. Our expectations were immediately put to shame. The entrance was a hill, not just any hill though. This hill had a 25% grade, which is very steep, and we were in an old minivan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
