Motivating Factors In 19th Century Europe
There was a population explosion because the needs of additional people could be met by a quickly
advancing society. In England, fewer people died because of general improving public health
conditions and things like a smallpox vaccine and pasteurization, and more people were born due to
earlier marriages and a lack of birth control. When more people are born than die, the population
increases. Additionally, smaller populations migrated into developed countries to find work,
increasing the population of the larger countries, like the migrants from Ireland due to a potato famine
coming to England for industrial work.
In your own words, why did 19th century Europe see a dramatic increase in migration and
immigration? What were some of the motivating factors?
Migration and immigration increased in 19th century Europe because there were more jobs available
in cities and towns that paid more than those in the country. Additionally, some migrants, like the
Irish, came to escape bad living conditions, in that case to get away from a potato famine. New cities
and changing ideas offered a safe haven for those prosecuted for their religious beliefs or political
stance in other countries, prompting migration into major metropolitan areas.
Why did the number of towns increase during the industrial revolution? What social problems were
created due to this increase?
The number of towns increased as people migrated to them to find jobs as industrial workers, as the
highest populations

Friendship In John Knowles s A Separate Peace
In life, a person is never able to stay in contact with every person they have met. An acquaintance is
no exception to this idea; friends will come and go, and this is inevitable. Sometimes a companion will
move away, never to be seen again, cut themselves off, never to be heard from again, or pass away,
never to do anything again. One bad occurrence can make or break a relationship. It all depends on
whether the resolution of it will cement a life long friendship or a lifelong schism. Any relationship
can be complicated, to the point of making no sense at all. This is similar to what John Knowles writes
about on his novel, A Separate Peace. Knowles writes of one of his main characters, Gene Forrester,
experiencing some of the themes above. Gene causes his friend Finny s leg to be broken, and Knowles
uses the resulting events to convey the idea that a friendship does not always have to make sense for it
to exist. In nearly every major interaction involving Gene, he consistently exhibits behavior which
would certainly sabotage his relationship with Finny and other peers. He harbors harsh and strong
emotions, which eventually do make themselves clear to the person they belong to. For example, Gene
begins a conspiracy against Finny, thinking, Finny had deliberately set out to wreck my studies (53).
Even after Finny eventually resolves the complications between himself and Gene, he still falls victim
to Gene s latent emotions a short moment after the reconciliation. In a

Figurative Language In Sailing The Byzantium
Literature is always personal, always one man s vision of the world, one man s experience (W.B. Yeats
n.d.). Such perspicacity is evident in the works of William Butler Yeats, whose poetry reflects his
fascination with mysticism and the days of yore. The poem Sailing the Byzantium illustrates how
William Butler Yeats use of artistic diction and symbolism reveals the parallels between ancient
civilization and the cycle of life and communicates the dual themes of obsolescence and perpetuity.
Yeats elegy, details a metaphoric spiritual journey of renewal to the holy city seeking intellectual
refuge within an artifice of eternity (Yeats, Lines 16,24). His use of figurative language elicits both the
somber and nostalgic tones evident throughout the poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the second stanza, Yeats use of the metonymic phrase: Aged man...A tattered coat
upon a stick poignantly conveys the not only narrator s image of his own aging mortal form but the
insignificance of his existence among his youthful countrymen (Lines 9,10). Most notably, the use of
dramatic metaphors in Line 11 and 12, Soul clap its hands and sing...but studying Monuments of its
own magnificence , personifies the soul as a song. In addition, it articulates the idea that one s soul
achieves perpetuity, not through sensual song, but through the erudition of ancient civilization (Yeats,
Lines 7, 11,14). Yeats use of apostrophe and simile in Lines 17 22: O sages ...As in gold mosaic
...Come from the holy fire, perne in gyre...Consume my heart away; sick with desire And fastened to a
dying animal , illuminates the narrator s yearning to relinquish earthly chains. Furthermore, his use of
assonance in Line 19, by which he accentuates the long i sound of the words fire

Taking a Look at Hip Hop Culture
Hip Hop Culture As I was growing up in the late 1970 s, it has always been common knowledge that
hip hop music and its culture originated in the South Bronx section of New York City in the early
1970 s. Since this time, hip hop has become a multi cultural fusion of many different contributions
made by several ethnic groups like Caucasians, Asians, blacks, and Hispanics, to name just a few. Hip
hop has definitely exploded within many cultures and subcultures throughout the world and within the
past decade or so; it has been getting widespread exposure. When hip hop music and the whole culture
of the movement first came onto the scene, it incorporated many different art forms. These art forms
include deejaying [cuttin and scratchin ], emceeing or rapping, beatboxing, breakdancing, and graffiti
art. In today s society, hip hop still incorporates these different art forms, but it also includes the way
you dress; the language or terminology you use; and the way you walk, act, and look. Hip hop music
on a whole has always been a form of self expression depicting a person s lifestyle; their pain; their
struggle; and the realities of street life. For some rappers or singers today in the hip hop game, it s still
a form of self expression. But for others, it s all about the money, clothes, jewelry, or the Bling bling.
Ka ching. Ka ching. (Liu, Pg. 1) Since the early to mid 90 s, hip hop has undergone so many changes
that it has actually lost its culture. Hip hop has become,

Is Cheating Unethical
Cheating is unethical because it is wrong in every way, shape, and form. The definition of unethical in
dictionary.com is lacking moral principles, and unwilling to adhere to proper rules of conduct. When
you decide to cheat you have lacked your moral principles. You are no longer a person to trust. You
have decided to not play by fair rules, and therefore have lost your integrity. Cheating is unethical
because it s not fair that you take advantage of another person s intelligence for you to take it as your
own. During an exam there should never be cheating, that is why they tell you in advance about the
day of the test so you can study. So, it is inappropriate and illegal to cheat on your exam.
Cheating oversteps on the rights of other people because while another person is doing their best to
finish a paper right, another person is cheating. The right person spent hours studying for an exam, if
not days studying. They went to sleep late to learn the material taught in class to be able to do an exam
and get an A. While the wrong person doesn t study. They do all tons of other stuff but, open a book,
or their notes. Then they go to do an exam, and they cheat all over it. That is wrong because while a
person spent their time, studying or worked hard to learn the material, then the cheater student comes
without studying and decides to cheat. They both might get an A. But, the studied student deserves the
A because that person put the time, and dedication to earn it. While the other student got an A but they
know in the bottom of their heart that they didn t deserve the A. Also, a common type of cheating is
when in an exam a person is doing their test, and a student close to them starts copying them.
Cheating also oversteps on the rights of others by simply not being loyal, or not playing by the rules.
In a business, there might be 2 business partners. The one that sees the triumph of the business, and
the one who sees the interest of his own pocket. It is somewhat common that businesses with partners
usually end because one decides to step over the other one. And destroys the friendship of the two,
along with the business. When you cheat on a game it s a shame on you because you didn t play fairly.

Andrew Jackson Thesis
The Democratic Party possibly the most notorious political party like most things on earth, had a
beginning. This party of injustice and corruption was formed by and stands on the principles of the
wicked man Andrew Jackson, but who was this man? He was more than just a President of the United
States. President Jackson was a man of numerous abnormal standards who through his actions as
President caused trouble for the United States government and economy during and after his time. The
Jackson family had two Irish parents who lived in a log cabin near the border of North and South
Carolina. On March 15, 1767, a new baby was born. His name was Andrew Jackson. Jackson also had

give up and worked toward winning in four years. President John Quincy Adams s key rival during the
1828 election was Andrew Jackson. There was lot of mudslinging happening between the two groups
of supporters. Jackson was accused of being harlot s son, and of marrying an already wedded woman.
Because of the duels that Jackson was involved in, he was also accused as an assassin. Jackson s
enemies also created a booklet that illustrated every little negative act of Jackson, but character
assassination was sent to President Adams also. Being a hero in war, Jackson earned a reputation that
made him a popular candidate. He fought the Native Americans and the British during the war of 1812

Pop Culture Artifact
A pop culture artifact is a representation of something that is well known during a specific time. It is
something most people recognize on sight without it having to be explained to them. From their
inception, video games quickly became a pop culture artifact. Most of my generation has grown up
with video games in our homes, and many of us play these games on a daily basis. From their start,
video games have developed from a very simple basic game, to a very advanced complex technology.
In the 1970 s, the video game Pong was introduced to the public, and quickly became a success. Pong

Video games can be useful to the public, teachers, writers, and developers use games in study, design,
critique, and for fun. Today s children learn at a very young age how to work a cell phone and or a

games into the classroom, to developing games that focus on learning. Even snipers are put into
virtual games in order to improve their skill.
Gamers enjoy the time that is spent on video games; they love the feeling of power that is derived
from winning. Gamers love the person they become while playing games. Gamers look at a game with
regard to who plays these games, why these games are played, and how they are played. Gamers like a
challenge, and the more advanced and challenging a game is, the more likely it will become popular
amongst gamers, which directly affects sales.
Video games have become a massive icon that has spanned decades, technology and even cultural
boundaries. Whether you play on a computer, tablet, phone, or console: at some point in your life,
video games have been a part of what you do. Strike up a conversation about games and you can make
lasting friendships or bitter enemies. Even if they might not know the specific game, everyone knows
what the genre is, and because of this, video games have taken their lasting place in our pop

Universal Set Of Codes In Health Care Case Study
1) Why is a universally accepted set of codes for diagnoses and procedures/interventions important? In
the prior weeks, I had noted that many health care professionals utilize many different methods of
practice, as well as implement a certain something to each of the medical cases that reflects that
clinician s style. No matter the endless routes to get to a diagnosis or the many diverse
recommendations of treatment for that diagnosis, codes are the same. The medical field having a
universal set of codes for diagnoses and procedures/interventions is very important because this set of
codes keeps all clinicians, medical facilities and insurance companies on the same page. From what I

The Constitution And The Texas Constitution
A constitution is an accumulation of principles and rules that establishes the character of a
government. Additionally, by showing the authority each part of the government holds, it is describing
the organization and regulation of the government and how a society must conform. The Texas
constitution has been reformed on multiple occasions and is troublesome to amend due to it being
highly restrictive and detailed. The process on how to amend the Texas constitution, the attempts and
failure of the constitutional reform in the 1970 s and why Texas should adopt an easily accessible and
flexible constitution are the primary focal points that will be addressed throughout this essay. Texas,
amongst many of the state constitutions, has had a great deal of proposals to amend the state
constitution. Reminiscing back to 1876 when the Texas constitution was adopted, there have been six
hundred and sixty six prospective proposals to amending the constitution. However, of the six hundred
and sixty six proposals, four hundred and eighty four have been ratified leaving the remaining few
defeated by the Texas voters. Furthermore amending the Texas constitution, according to Article 17 of
the Texas constitution involves applying a two step process. The process starts off by obtaining a two
thirds vote from each house in the legislature and a majority vote by the voters. The two thirds vote
consists of having one hundred members from the House of Representatives and twenty one from the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Blood Transfusion
One of the most punctual endeavors at blood transfusion was chronicled in 1492 when Pope Innocent
VIII, while in an insensible state was mixed with blood from three young men. The blood from the
young men was implanted into the Pope through the mouth and it was noticed that the destiny of the
Pope and that of the young men was dreary. As per the annals, there were no survivors from this first
endeavor at transfusing blood from one individual (or for this situation, people) to another.
Thank heavens, current medication has advanced more distant than in the times of 1492. It was in the
early piece of the nineteenth century that advance in blood donation and transfusion truly started to

decent to realize that you have put away blood for yourself if you require it. A tremendous advantage
is that with autologous blood donation there is no danger of getting a transmitted infection. Despite the
fact that the blood donated through allogeneic donations is unbendingly screened, there is a significant
serenity in knowing where the blood that is given to you originates from. Obviously, these are just a
couple of the numerous advantages connected with autologous blood donation.
How would I plan for an autologous blood donation?
You ought to plan for an autologous blood donation the same way that you would get ready for an

arrange for any strenuous movement, especially any hard work, for 24 hours.

A path to spiritual discovery
As Madhu Bazaz Wangu indicates, Buddhism is a path to spiritual discovery (8). Being Buddhism, a
non theistic religion, their disciples follow the monotheistic doctrine demonstrating they believe in
only one deity. Siddhartha Gautama, mostly known as Buddha the enlightened , is the one deity
Buddhists believe in. As Wangu writes, Siddhartha practiced severe self denial and meditation before
he could reach Nirvana (state of mind that ends the path of suffering) (8). Siddhartha came to the
conclusion that in order to reach Nirvana one should be able to eliminate desire by doing right and
thinking right. This could be done by following the Dharma (the law of Buddhism). Because the

Because Shunyata teaches that everything is independent, and that only understanding this concept
will allow to eliminate disturbing emotions in order to reach Nirvana, it is the primordial philosophy
in Mahayana. Shunyata can be realized by purification, practice of ethics, and single pointed
concentration; this will allow the individual to understand him/her self as an independent I. Moreover,
it allows realizing that society does not shape an individual, but an individual shapes his/her self by
comprehending shunyata. Even though Mahayana Buddhists believe in Buddha, they believe in a
different form of Buddha; Bodhisattva Being of Wisdom. As Heinrich Dumoulin points out, a
Bodhisattva is an enlightened Buddhist monk who delays Nirvana in order to help other people obtain
release from the path of suffering. Mahayana Buddhists believe that Buddha had been a Bodhisattva in
his past lives before he was born as Siddartha Gautama. Apart from showing compassion, a
bodhisattva also plays a sacrificial role just as any other deity in order to help the latest individual to
obtain nirvana. Being a savior, a bodhisattva practices the Six Virtues, or Paramitas to gain merit for
humankind. According to Wangu, the Six Virtues are, the perfection of giving (dana), the perfection of
morality (sila), the perfection of patience (santi), the perfection of courage (virya), the perfection of
meditation (dhyana), and the perfection of wisdom

Overcoming the Challenge of Tobacco Use
Introduction
Today one of our biggest challenges as public health professionals is tobacco use which is a leading
cause of deaths that be prevented with public health campaign intervention programs. According to the

a smoking related disease. The campaign is working to give teenagers information on understanding
the health risks associated with smoking and long term health risk when they become adults. By using

Adolescents are becoming frequent users of the World Wide Web for social media networks
subsequently, they do not frequent the web for information regarding tobacco cessation intervention
programs. The added bonus to this public health campaign is how social media on frequented by
adolescents such as Facebook and Twitter will provide educational literature in more of a new and

Arguments Against Gay Adoption
Only 25 out of 196 countries in the world have legalized same sex marriage, while only 26 allow gay
adoption. Gay marriage and adoption is widely opposed all over the globe. Though there s been
recordings of people who are LGBT as early as 2400 B.C, many still oppress those inside of the
community. Since the stonewall riots in 1969, the gay rights movement has been a slow progression
for equal rights and social acceptance. Gay marriage isn t deducting anything from heterosexual
marriages. Many make the argument that gay people shouldn t have the ability to get married because
of the inability to have biological children, but many straight people can t reproduce either. In the case
of gay adoption, many will argue that having same sex parents will negatively affect a child, while no
studies have proven this. Gay people should be able to adopt and marry because they can raise kids as
well as heterosexuals can, and marry without causing harm. Smith 2 Why is gay marriage feared by a
wide variety of heterosexuals, when it doesn t take anything away from them? 44% of Australian

Application Of A Regression Analysis
Since electricity demand and the regressors are in logarithms, the demand elasticities are directly
derived from the coefficients. Monthly binary dummy covers from January to November and does not
include dummy for December to avoid dummy variable trap. Severe multicollinearity between price
variables of on peak, mid peak and off peak limited the estimation of cross price elasticity. We assume
that individual error components are uncorrelated with each other. With regards to choice of
econometric technique, we used Cochrane Orcutt estimation to adjust serial correlation in error terms.

Multicollinearity occurs when two or more predictors in the model are correlated and provide
redundant information about the response. That is, a multiple regression model with correlated
predictors can indicate how well the entire bundle of predictors predicts the outcome variable, but it
may not give valid results about any individual predictor, or about which predictors are redundant with
respect to others. Consequences of high multicollinearity is that increase in standard error of estimates
of the b s so that decrease in reliability (Farrar and Glauber 1967). In case of perfect multicollinearity
the predictor matrix is singular and therefore cannot be inverted. Under these circumstances, the
ordinary least squares estimator b =(X X) 1X y does not exist. To detect multicollinearity, we calculate
the variance inflation factors for each predictors in RHS (Mansfield and Helms 1982). The VIF
(variance inflation factors) for each predictor xj is: VIFj = 1/( 1−R2j). R2j is the coefficient of
determination of the model that includes all predictors except the jth predictor. The models for the VIF
test are: VIF for ln Pon: ln Ponm = ln I + b2 ln Pmidm + b3 ln Poffm + b4 ln GPPt + cmDm + uont
VIF for ln Pmid: ln Pmidm = ln I + b2 ln Ponm + b3 ln Poffm + b4 ln GPPt +

How Pop Music Affects Society
It has been many centuries since the early days of music where it was restricted to classical tunes and
melodic melodies. In this time music has evolved to something of individual celebration, achievement,
and even a battle call for the rights of people everywhere expressed though a large range of musical
genres and styles. Music can be split into different sections based on how it is produced, what it
contains musically, and how it affects the audience through language or influence. Although every
genre of music has a different purpose and twist, pop music is the most popular in today s society
because of how it is produced, its chord progression, common and recurring cadences, and its relatable
lyrics and by the influential singers behind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional Probability of Chord
Progression on Brain Response: An MEG Study, showed that structures commonly found in pop
music created spikes in the right anterior portion of the brain, when specific chords are played in
dissonance to the original key, such as a Neapolitan sixth. Pop music has this effect because it is
commonly in a major key and has little to no modulation. This creates a soothing effect that spikes the
brain causing the release of serotonin making the listener happier the more they listen. Pop music also
creates a soothing and pleasing tone that is both powerful and euphoric through the use of the standard
chord progression I V vi VI. This chordal progression is used in many pop music melodies, choruses,
and even establishes a commonality through major structures that are both pleasing to the ear and the
mind. By creating these melodic structures, pop music is able to give its listeners chordal structure
statistical probability. Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional
Probability, found that year old children were able to predict tonal sequences found in typical pop
music. This is most commonly related to the resolution to the tonic of any given key. Pop music uses
this by relying on strong chords within the key, such as the dominant and mediant because of their
strong relation to the tonic. Other music styles such as jazz and even some techno rely on weaker
chords that stem from the leading tone and sub dominant. This weak structure calls for resolution and
even to the untrained ear tend to cause strain and discomfort making them less favorable and not
follow the conditional probability found in pop. Pop music s structure also establishes clear and
defined parts starting with the verse and then moving on to a chorus, before returning to the second
verse to

The Pros And Cons Of Assassination As A Tool Of Modern...
The changing face of conflict has brought about an evolution on how we conduct and even think about
warfare. Gross (2010) states that assassination was once prohibited under the statutes of international
law but has increasingly become common in the modern day battlefield. A dilemma is presented when
we question is there any ethical basis of using assassination as a tool of modern warfare. There is
increasing realization that one cannot engage in war using the conventional means. Terrorism and
insurgence being the new methods employed in modern warfare mean fighting using conventional
rules puts one at a major disadvantage. The killing of Osama Bin Laden according to White (2012)
can be termed as an assassination; it was executed by a special ... Show more content on

Osama bin Laden s case was special since while he was not the head of a government, he was the
leader of a terrorist organization that was engaged in terrorist attacks against the United States. And as
concluded by White (2012) this notion can be used to support the rationale of using terrorism as a tool
of war on some specific special targets. Assassination though is not a just means of engaging in
warfare as explained by Gross (2010) since there is no basis of choosing who is a terrorist engaging in
warfare and who is not a terrorist. Nelson Mandela was labeled a terrorist by the South African
government but he subsequently became a head of state and leader of South Africa. If assassination
was used as a tool to eliminate him then it would complicate the justification of assassination as stated
by White (2012) as a tool to eliminate terrorists in the event of a war. Mandela transformed from being
a terrorist to a Nobel Peace prize winner. Justice cannot be served through assassinations as a method
of war. The discretion of whether to use it or not cannot be left to the whims of those in government
since they could use it on any of their so called enemies whom they could label as

How Sports Can Help Bring Together Diverse Groups Of People
As a theater artist, I ve never had time for sports. I looked at the world and it s people through the eyes
of a Shakespeare geek, and thought throwing around a ball and cheering for people wearing certain
colors was a waste of time. Never in my wildest dreams would I think of giving football the time of
day, but that was before I became a mascot. By some kind of luck and desperation for a job I have
ended up as the Piper: the red and grey sports mascot of Hamline. Through this job I have come to see
how sports can help bring together diverse groups of people, and inspire the spectators to be their best
selves. When I went to bed the night before my very first football game, I was nervous and excited. I
was about to become a part of something which I had no knowledge of. When I originally applied to
be the piper had no idea what the job would detail, I just needed the money. I was homeschooled for
all of middle school and high school and had never seen a football game before in my life, even on
TV. I was surprised, but very pleased, that I even got the job. As I fell asleep, I was anxiously
anticipating becoming a part of something new. I should have expected that something would go
wrong. I woke up at 12:30pm on the day of the game. I was supposed to be present and ready to don
my costume a half an hour prior, according to the vast amount of messages that cluttered my phone s

The s Death Left Marie Tasset
Dardeau s death left Marie Tasset widowed at 22 with four children under the age of five. She went on
to marry widower Eugene Pierre Dalmace Fields in June 1864. By March 1863, Union forces had
taken control of the sugar planting region and reported that all the slaves had come within their lines.
Fellow sugar planter Andrew McCollam reported that he had only a few hands left and he doubted he
would be able to do more than manage the seed cane. Viguerie, along with hundreds of Louisiana
soldiers, including William A. Bisland of Terrebonne, surrendered on May 26, 1865 in New Orleans.
Viguerie was paroled to New Iberia, Louisiana on June 6, 1865. He was released shortly after.
Louisiana was the only region deep within the Confederacy, where Union authorities implemented
experimental Reconstruction policies during the Civil War. Louisiana responded to President Abraham
Lincoln s plan to readmit southern states into the Union by selecting delegates to write a new
constitution. The Constitution of 1864 abolished slavery and disposed of Louisiana s old order of rule
by planters and merchants, although it did not give African Americans voting power. It was the first
state charter to incorporate Lincoln s conciliatory approach and was the leading test case for postwar
policy. Lincoln s Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 did not apply to Union held territory. Thus,
slavery continued in the thirteen Louisiana parishes under Union control. After much debate, delegates

Greece. The red figure technique is essentially an inversion of the black figure technique, for now the

the figures are painted with a brush and are consequently more fluid than when incised in the black

Physicians evaluating clinical chemistry data from patients subjected to short term food or sleep
deprivation should take the physiological state into account in their assessment.
Key words: survival training, starvation, sleep deprivation, metabolism, ketones
Introduction
Training to handle prolonged emergency or survival situations is carried out in civilian and military
contexts.
During such training the participants are usually subjected to simultaneous deprivation of many basic
needs such as food, water, rest, sleep, and company. Although there are reports published on some
clinical chemistry changes during such multiple deprivation (MD) training, no attempts have been
made to disentangle different factors. In this study we compare the impact of sleep deprivation (SD)
with food deprivation (FD) on a range of clinical chemistry variables and body weight and compare
the outcome of each on a smaller number of variables measured during civilian MD survival training.
Effects on cognitive function,1 cholesterol synthesis regulation,2 and hepcidine 25 levels3 have been
reported in detail previously. The implications for evaluation of clinical chemistry data are discussed.

Theodore Roosevelt Foreign Policy Essay
I believe the President who defined American foreign policy most significantly in the twentieth
century was Theodore Roosevelt. He was an imperialist who worked towards a goal of global power.
From gaining ownership over the Panama Canal to protecting Latin American countries from the
threat of European powers, Roosevelt s policies earned the name Big Stick Diplomacy . This policy
relied upon military intimidation to achieve U.S goals. The first example of Theodore Roosevelt using
his Big Stick policy was his influence on the Panama Canal. He dispatched U.S warships to support
Panamanian rebels against Colombian rule. After Panama declared its independence, it granted the
U.S control over the canal zone. The Panama Canal was an imperative ... Show more content on

Also in 1902, congress passed the Philippine Government Act, establishing the islands of Philippine as
an unorganized territory. In 1903, Roosevelt created the Department of Commerce and Labor. Later
that year, Roosevelt dealt with the Panamanian revolt against Colombian rule and the U.S recognized
Panama as a Republic. In 1905, he mediated the peace treaty between Russia and Japan. In 1906, the
Platt Amendment in invoked and the U.S takes military control of Cuba. These actions demonstrate
the successful policies of Theodore Roosevelt. Theodore Roosevelt s goals with his Big Stick Policy
were to build a foreign policy legacy and expand U.S influence across the world. He wanted to move
the U.S away from its traditional policy of isolationism and towards the role of a global power. He
wanted the U.S to act as the world police, keeping conflicts to a minimum. I think he was successful
in his goals. He seized the opportunity of using interventionist policies to gain the economically
advantageous Panama Canal and successfully mediated peace talks for multiple

tried to grasp a firm hold on. However in 2017, 29 states as well as DC, have laws legalizing
marijuana in some form but some continue to fight their own war on drugs. The legalization of
marijuana has health benefits that help those with certain diseases while also helping the economy

This act, if passed, could generate thousands of jobs throughout the country. Jobs such as growing
marijuana, setting up marijuana nurseries and dispensaries, and so forth could decrease the
unemployment rate while increasing economic activity. A study done by Will Cooper and Elizabeth
Johnston of ICF, has estimated that around 81,000 jobs have been created in California alone, due to
the legalization of marijuana, as well as an increase in income by $3.5 billion. As the income becomes
more prevalent among Americans, the spending also becomes more prevalent because now they are
having money to spend on luxury goods instead of necessities only. The more frequent spending on
top of the new taxes could boost the economy tremendously. Last year, more than 1.25 million
Americans were arrested for marijuana possession alone, making up for more than all violent crimes
combined. Most arrested are siting in jail cells, awaiting their trials, while costing tax payers on
average, more than $30,000 per year due to often times, having less than a gram of marijuana on their
person. The money wasted on these minor offenses could be put towards the violent crimes that aren t
being solved. The legalization would let a majority of those arrested for possession out of jail and with
only a ticket or warning. Some might believe getting those who use marijuana off the streets is a good
thing however,

Literary Analysis Of Snakes By Danielle Evans

Results at this point you will determine if your argument is being supported or not. As the sixth step
that will bring you to completion, you will have to Determining a Conclusion you will have the

Examples Of New Historicism In Othello
New Historicism
When I did research on New Historicism I found that it is seen as is a school of literary theory and that
it was first developed in the 1980 s. Also when I looked for a definition for New Historicism I found
that it is seen as an expressive act that is embedded into a network that consists of material practices.
When we want to look for New Historicism in a novel or in a movie it is important to first have a look
at the author s biography as well as the social background and it is lastly important to look at the ideas
that was circulating the cultural era of that time as well.
New Historicism is also concerned with the political function of the literature as well as the concept of
power. In other words how they emerge, but it will tell us about the different ways of thinking at that
time.
In other words New Historicism is a literary theory that is based on the idea that literature should be

New Historicism is also often emphasized as the power struggle of all kinds, and that also includes the

The number one priority for family is making time to enjoy each other. Through the use of a trivial
conversation, Wendy Wasserstein play, Tender Offer shows a father finding a meaningful moment to
reconnect with his daughter. By establishing a tender offer Paul reassures his commitment to
increasing the opportunities to communicate with his daughter. Parents today, would benefit greatly
from reading a Tender Offer , to spark a conversation with their children, and agreeing to commit to

In the play, the writer set the scene by focusing on a casual conversation between a father and his
daughter. By not focusing on one subject exhibited the uneasiness of their relationship. Each topic of
conversation is in reference to someone else. Showing their inability to communicate with each other.
Children require a great deal of one on one interaction from parents to keep the lines of

The Rio Grande rift is superimposed on a region with a long and complex history of deformation and
heating, which affects the location and com position of the subsequent rift related magmatism (Mack,

extensional events that affected the whole of the western USA. These events were contemporaneous
with changes in motions of the Farallon and North American plates at the Pacific margin and are
widely thought to be genetically related to them by processes such as back arc spreading. Alternative

involved low angle faulting that formed broad basins and predates magmatism at the rift axis. This
early phase development of the Rio Grande rift lasted for 10 to 12 million years and was followed by a
lull in volcanic activity between 17 and 14 Million years ago. This period of quiescence is apparent
throughout the whole of the western USA, and it marks a change from volcanism that was dominated
by calc alkaline rhyolites and andesites to bimodal assemblages of basalt and rhyolite. It also marks a
change in direction of crustal extension from WSW ENE to E W, that was accompanied by a decrease
in the width of the zone of

The Canon of the New Testament
What we know today as the New Testament was compiled over a period of many decades. It was first
referenced as the New Testament by Clement of Alexandria. It is believed that the books that comprise
what we know as the New Testament canon were in existence no later than the end of the first century.
The included books varied by different sources until the fourth century when the Bishop of
Alexandria, Athanasios, included them in a letter to his flock in AD 367. His list was approved by
councils at Hippo in AD393 and Carthage in AD397. The process used to arrive at this list varied by
time and source. There were many debates along the way and some continue to this day.
In order to explore the journey undertaken to arrive at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the top apologists of the time was Irenaeus. He declared that there could only be four gospels
and to add or subtract from that number would be heresy. He also countered Marcion who that the Old
Testament God had been evil, different from the New Testament God. Marcion wanted to remove all
ties to Judaism from Christianity and only accepted Luke and ten of Paul s letters in his canon.
Irenaeus responded by emphasizing the authority of all four Gospels and all thirteen of Paul s letters.
Marcion s canon was followed by other varying canons over the next two centuries. One list which
was very close to our current canon was the Muraturian Canon. It appears to include the four Gospels,
Acts, I and II Corinthians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Galatians, I and II Thessalonians,
Romans, Philemon, Titus, I and II Timothy, all three epistles of John, and Revelations. It directly
rejected the epistles of Paul to the Laodiceans and the Alexandrians, and questioned strongly the
Revelation of Peter. The first list that clearly defined the 27 books that we know today as the New
Testament was contained in a letter written by Athanasius, the bishop of Rome, in AD 367. In it he
declares these books God inspired Scripture...handed down to our fathers by those who were
eyewitnesses and servants of the word from the beginning. About this same time the oldest complete
copy of the New Testament, the Codex Sinaiticus, was

The Government Of India With The British Essay
There is a natural propensity to evaluate the Government of India with the British. But Indian
Parliament and parliamentary institutions and procedures are not a copy of the Westminster system.
There are fundamental differences between their system and Indian system. Democracy extends way
beyond elections. However, the holding of transparent, credible and accountable elections is important
for any democratic country and election observers make a significant contribution in this process. In
this essay, I will be heading a team of British officials who will be observing the Parliamentary
election process in India in May 2014. Being from Britain, we will witness a lot of similarities
between the political systems of India, however there will also be some differences, like India being a
federal republic and a parliamentary democracy at the same time while Britain practices constitutional
monarchy. Furthermore, India has a president and a prime minister, whereas, although the head of
state in Britain is in the form of a prime minister, it also has a symbolic royalty head in the form of a
ruling monarch. Generally the elections in India has been quite peaceful, well organized but quite
unpredictable at the same time, especially with the growing influence of upcoming parties.
English Parliament has developed through somewhere in the range of three hundred years of history.
In Britain, it can be the main establishment which practices sovereign forces and on which there are

Feudalism And The Middle Ages
Feudalism In The Middle Ages
When people conjure images of the Middle Ages, people think of chaos, war, and little improvement.
In fact, much of this is true. During the Middle Ages, a system called the Feudal System was formed
to maintain order. It might have made life tough for peasants, but it kept nobles, or upper class people,
rich and in power. The Feudal System greatly affected daily life for everyone, but, in time, it
collapsed.
The constant chaos of the Middle Ages caused the Feudal System to be invented. During this time
period, kingdoms in modern day western Europe were under constant threat from invading nations.
Most kingdoms had been too large to have just a single figure of power, so Feudalism developed.
Feudalism came mostly due to a single king s inability to protect his land by himself (King 26).
Another reason was that before the fall of the Roman Empire, an established and powerful entity, the
leaders of kingdoms had strong bonds with their people. When the Roman Empire fell, there was no
single strong power other than the Pope, and the ties between the leaders and the people broke (Pei).
Without these ties, people and their Lords weren t as friendly as before. With no strong power in
place, defenses were needed. This is how the Feudal classes came to be, as knights swore to support
their lord militarily and their lord swore to protect them (Pei). Because of the constant need for
defenses, classes formed: kings, to rule; lords, to control villages;

The Positive And Negative Impact Of Social Media And...
Introduction Since the new phones are coming out with more and more accessibility to the internet
from almost anywhere, social media has grown tremendously. Young teens have unlimited access to
sites that influence how they dress, act and talk as well as what they talk about. Social media is not the
only type, there are multiple types of media that can play roles in the lives of these adolescents. Mass
media plays an intricate role in shaping the minds and ideas of the current adolescent generation in
both positive and negative ways. The article Growing Up Wired discusses the impact that social
networking sites have had on adolescents and their use of the sites. I hope to discover whether mass
media has a positive or negative effect on adolescents by using its impacts and applying them to both
sociological concepts of identity as well as groupthink. Media Usage In the article there are many
staggering facts about how often social media sites are used and what adolescents are using them for.
The article estimates that 11 18 year olds spend up to 11 hours a day on the social media sites and
exposed to media via electronics. It is estimated that approximately 73% of adolescents are on social
networking sites whether they meet the age restriction or not. The young people s parents are
following the footsteps of them by starting to use the sits they see the adolescents on after the
adolescents have started using it, this is a parallel to what was expected since these sites were
originally adult oriented and created for an older audience. A majority of young people will wake up
and check their social media profiles as well as check them again before going to bed at night. How
that Impacts Day to Day Life The constant checking of social media and electronic sites can become
interruptive to daily tasks. For things like paying attention in class the thought of checking social
networking sites can be enough cause for distraction. Wondering whether you received any snapchats
from people or how many likes your last picture got can be temptation enough to pull out a phone and
check to see if you have notifications from your favourite sites. When put into new situations or put
around new people, adolescents

Career Project
A career I would be interested in pursuing is being a park ranger. This job interests me because I love
spending time outdoors and with people. It also is an interest of mine to keep our wonderful parks and
woodland environments safe and to have them still be around for many more generations to come.
The job of a park ranger is to enforce laws, regulations and policies in national, state, county, or
municipal parks with dangerous wildlife, bad terrain, or in bad weather situations. Park rangers do
task such as vehicle and personal registration, fee collections and issuing of permits. They must give
information about the park use, safety requirements and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some physical demands park rangers might come across frequently include: climbing, reaching,
handling, fingering, talking, hearing, close vision, kneeling, and color vision.
Park rangers need at least two years of college with at least twelve credits in science and criminal
justice. Most park ranger positions require a bachelor s degree as well. Also, a master s degree is
helpful for advancement into supervisory positions. Also, to become a park ranger there is no special
licensing or certification required. There are three major degrees that are preferred. These include:
parks, recreation, and leisure studies, business or public administration, and natural sciences. The one
that I am interested in studying is Parks, Recreation, and Leisure studies. This major is offered at a
variety of schools. The school I have chosen is Central Missouri State University.
Admission requirements for Central Missouri State University are like most other state schools. The
preferred admission test ACT. The average ACT score for the University s freshman is 22.0. The high
school credit requirements go as followed: English: 4 years, Math: 3 years, Social Studies: 3 years.
Foreign Language: 2 years, Lab Science: 2 years, Visual/Performing Arts: 1 year. The tuition and fees

Disability In Rheumatoid Arthritis
Disability in Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is characterised by synovitis, joint damage and subsequent physical dysfunction.
Assessment of physical disability helps in finding out the extent of disease activity. (18) The scores
calculated for this assessment correlate well with the joint damage. Regular assessment of patient s
status is also necessary for monitoring the response of treatment.
Various assessment tools are used to objectively assess the disability in patients with rheumatoid
arthritis.
Cadena et al (19) carried out a study in Clinica Universitaria Bolivariana in Medellin, Colombia with a
sample size of 79 using Quality of Life for RA scale and Rheumatoid Attitude Index. The study
revealed that nineteen patients (24%) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Type 2 DM constitutes more than 95% of all adults with diabetes mellitus. India is one of the centres
of the global diabetes mellitus epidemic and has the second highest number of people with the disease
in the world (~69 million individuals as of 2015)(36)
Diabetes Mellitus is diagnosed using the American diabetes Association ADA criteria(37) (38). The
established glucose criteria for the diagnosis of diabetes that include the FPG ( 126 mg/dl) and two
hour plasma glucose 200mg/dl during an OGTT is still valid. Additionally, patients with classic
symptoms of hyperglycemia or hyperglycemic crisis can be diagnosed when a random plasma glucose
is ≥200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L). HbA1C, which relects the glycemic status of 2 3 months has been
recommended for the diagnosis of DM with a threshold of 6.5%.
Long term complications of diabetes include microvascular and macrovascular complications(39).
These complications are mainly attributed to the duration of disease and overall glycemic control.
Micro vascular complications include retinopathy with potential loss of vision; nephropathy leading to
renal failure; peripheral neuropathy with risk of foot ulcers, amputations, and Charcot joints; and
autonomic neuropathy causing gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and cardiovascular symptoms and
sexual dysfunction. Macrovascular complications include increased risk of atherosclerotic
cardiovascular, peripheral arterial, and cerebrovascular

Violence In The House Of The Spirits
Violence in the House of the Spirits is a primary role and plays an important role in creating the action
of the characters. Violence actually tied between des Valle and Trueba families through their struggles.
The Violence in the story is mostly about violence against women.
It begins with the death of the beautiful Rosa. She was accidentally poisoned by having brandy which
was made for her father. Rosa s death gives the story the theme of injustice, taking her father s place in
death and she s innocent gives the reader that the start of the violence in the story is from the injustice.
Esteban Trueba is an unusual protagonist and a good example to show the violence in the novel.
Starting with him being a rapist, in the story

  • 2. Motivating Factors In 19th Century Europe There was a population explosion because the needs of additional people could be met by a quickly advancing society. In England, fewer people died because of general improving public health conditions and things like a smallpox vaccine and pasteurization, and more people were born due to earlier marriages and a lack of birth control. When more people are born than die, the population increases. Additionally, smaller populations migrated into developed countries to find work, increasing the population of the larger countries, like the migrants from Ireland due to a potato famine coming to England for industrial work. In your own words, why did 19th century Europe see a dramatic increase in migration and immigration? What were some of the motivating factors? Migration and immigration increased in 19th century Europe because there were more jobs available in cities and towns that paid more than those in the country. Additionally, some migrants, like the Irish, came to escape bad living conditions, in that case to get away from a potato famine. New cities and changing ideas offered a safe haven for those prosecuted for their religious beliefs or political stance in other countries, prompting migration into major metropolitan areas. Why did the number of towns increase during the industrial revolution? What social problems were created due to this increase? The number of towns increased as people migrated to them to find jobs as industrial workers, as the highest populations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Friendship In John Knowles s A Separate Peace In life, a person is never able to stay in contact with every person they have met. An acquaintance is no exception to this idea; friends will come and go, and this is inevitable. Sometimes a companion will move away, never to be seen again, cut themselves off, never to be heard from again, or pass away, never to do anything again. One bad occurrence can make or break a relationship. It all depends on whether the resolution of it will cement a life long friendship or a lifelong schism. Any relationship can be complicated, to the point of making no sense at all. This is similar to what John Knowles writes about on his novel, A Separate Peace. Knowles writes of one of his main characters, Gene Forrester, experiencing some of the themes above. Gene causes his friend Finny s leg to be broken, and Knowles uses the resulting events to convey the idea that a friendship does not always have to make sense for it to exist. In nearly every major interaction involving Gene, he consistently exhibits behavior which would certainly sabotage his relationship with Finny and other peers. He harbors harsh and strong emotions, which eventually do make themselves clear to the person they belong to. For example, Gene begins a conspiracy against Finny, thinking, Finny had deliberately set out to wreck my studies (53). Even after Finny eventually resolves the complications between himself and Gene, he still falls victim to Gene s latent emotions a short moment after the reconciliation. In a ... • 4. Figurative Language In Sailing The Byzantium Literature is always personal, always one man s vision of the world, one man s experience (W.B. Yeats n.d.). Such perspicacity is evident in the works of William Butler Yeats, whose poetry reflects his fascination with mysticism and the days of yore. The poem Sailing the Byzantium illustrates how William Butler Yeats use of artistic diction and symbolism reveals the parallels between ancient civilization and the cycle of life and communicates the dual themes of obsolescence and perpetuity. Yeats elegy, details a metaphoric spiritual journey of renewal to the holy city seeking intellectual refuge within an artifice of eternity (Yeats, Lines 16,24). His use of figurative language elicits both the somber and nostalgic tones evident throughout the poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the second stanza, Yeats use of the metonymic phrase: Aged man...A tattered coat upon a stick poignantly conveys the not only narrator s image of his own aging mortal form but the insignificance of his existence among his youthful countrymen (Lines 9,10). Most notably, the use of dramatic metaphors in Line 11 and 12, Soul clap its hands and sing...but studying Monuments of its own magnificence , personifies the soul as a song. In addition, it articulates the idea that one s soul achieves perpetuity, not through sensual song, but through the erudition of ancient civilization (Yeats, Lines 7, 11,14). Yeats use of apostrophe and simile in Lines 17 22: O sages ...As in gold mosaic ...Come from the holy fire, perne in gyre...Consume my heart away; sick with desire And fastened to a dying animal , illuminates the narrator s yearning to relinquish earthly chains. • 5. Taking a Look at Hip Hop Culture Hip Hop Culture As I was growing up in the late 1970 s, it has always been common knowledge that hip hop music and its culture originated in the South Bronx section of New York City in the early 1970 s. Since this time, hip hop has become a multi cultural fusion of many different contributions made by several ethnic groups like Caucasians, Asians, blacks, and Hispanics, to name just a few. Hip hop has definitely exploded within many cultures and subcultures throughout the world and within the past decade or so; it has been getting widespread exposure. When hip hop music and the whole culture of the movement first came onto the scene, it incorporated many different art forms. These art forms include deejaying [cuttin and scratchin ], emceeing or rapping, beatboxing, breakdancing, and graffiti art. In today s society, hip hop still incorporates these different art forms, but it also includes the way you dress; the language or terminology you use; and the way you walk, act, and look. Hip hop music on a whole has always been a form of self expression depicting a person s lifestyle; their pain; their struggle; and the realities of street life. For some rappers or singers today in the hip hop game, it s still a form of self expression. But for others, it s all about the money, clothes, jewelry, or the Bling bling. Ka ching. Ka ching. (Liu, Pg. 1) Since the early to mid 90 s, hip hop has undergone so many changes that it has actually lost its culture. Hip hop has become, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Is Cheating Unethical Cheating is unethical because it is wrong in every way, shape, and form. The definition of unethical in dictionary.com is lacking moral principles, and unwilling to adhere to proper rules of conduct. When you decide to cheat you have lacked your moral principles. You are no longer a person to trust. You have decided to not play by fair rules, and therefore have lost your integrity. Cheating is unethical because it s not fair that you take advantage of another person s intelligence for you to take it as your own. During an exam there should never be cheating, that is why they tell you in advance about the day of the test so you can study. So, it is inappropriate and illegal to cheat on your exam. Cheating oversteps on the rights of other people because while another person is doing their best to finish a paper right, another person is cheating. The right person spent hours studying for an exam, if not days studying. They went to sleep late to learn the material taught in class to be able to do an exam and get an A. While the wrong person doesn t study. They do all tons of other stuff but, open a book, or their notes. Then they go to do an exam, and they cheat all over it. That is wrong because while a person spent their time, studying or worked hard to learn the material, then the cheater student comes without studying and decides to cheat. They both might get an A. But, the studied student deserves the A because that person put the time, and dedication to earn it. While the other student got an A but they know in the bottom of their heart that they didn t deserve the A. Also, a common type of cheating is when in an exam a person is doing their test, and a student close to them starts copying them. Cheating also oversteps on the rights of others by simply not being loyal, or not playing by the rules. In a business, there might be 2 business partners. The one that sees the triumph of the business, and the one who sees the interest of his own pocket. It is somewhat common that businesses with partners usually end because one decides to step over the other one. And destroys the friendship of the two, along with the business. Being Buddhism, a non theistic religion, their disciples follow the monotheistic doctrine demonstrating they believe in only one deity. Siddhartha Gautama, mostly known as Buddha the enlightened , is the one deity Buddhists believe in. As Wangu writes, Siddhartha practiced severe self denial and meditation before he could reach Nirvana (state of mind that ends the path of suffering) (8). Moreover, it allows realizing that society does not shape an individual, but an individual shapes his/her self by comprehending shunyata. Even though Mahayana Buddhists believe in Buddha, they believe in a different form of Buddha; Bodhisattva Being of Wisdom. As Heinrich Dumoulin points out, a Bodhisattva is an enlightened Buddhist monk who delays Nirvana in order to help other people obtain release from the path of suffering. Mahayana Buddhists believe that Buddha had been a Bodhisattva in his past lives before he was born as Siddartha Gautama. The campaign is working to give teenagers information on understanding the health risks associated with smoking and long term health risk when they become adults. Multicollinearity occurs when two or more predictors in the model are correlated and provide redundant information about the response. That is, a multiple regression model with correlated predictors can indicate how well the entire bundle of predictors predicts the outcome variable, but it may not give valid results about any individual predictor, or about which predictors are redundant with respect to others. Consequences of high multicollinearity is that increase in standard error of estimates of the b s so that decrease in reliability (Farrar and Glauber 1967). In case of perfect multicollinearity the predictor matrix is singular and therefore cannot be inverted. Under these circumstances, the ordinary least squares estimator b =(X X) 1X y does not exist. To detect multicollinearity, we calculate the variance inflation factors for each predictors in RHS (Mansfield and Helms 1982). In this time music has evolved to something of individual celebration, achievement, and even a battle call for the rights of people everywhere expressed though a large range of musical genres and styles. Music can be split into different sections based on how it is produced, what it contains musically, and how it affects the audience through language or influence. Although every genre of music has a different purpose and twist, pop music is the most popular in today s society because of how it is produced, its chord progression, common and recurring cadences, and its relatable lyrics and by the influential singers behind ... Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional Probability of Chord Progression on Brain Response: An MEG Study, showed that structures commonly found in pop music created spikes in the right anterior portion of the brain, when specific chords are played in dissonance to the original key, such as a Neapolitan sixth. Pop music has this effect because it is commonly in a major key and has little to no modulation. This creates a soothing effect that spikes the brain causing the release of serotonin making the listener happier the more they listen. Pop music also creates a soothing and pleasing tone that is both powerful and euphoric through the use of the standard chord progression I V vi VI. This chordal progression is used in many pop music melodies, choruses, and even establishes a commonality through major structures that are both pleasing to the ear and the mind. By creating these melodic structures, pop music is able to give its listeners chordal structure statistical probability. Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional Probability, found that year old children were able to predict tonal sequences found in typical pop music. This is most commonly related to the resolution to the tonic of any given key. Pop music uses this by relying on strong chords within the key, such as the dominant and mediant because of their strong relation to the tonic. Other music styles such as jazz and even some techno rely on weaker chords that stem from the leading tone and sub dominant. This weak structure calls for resolution and even to the untrained ear tend to cause strain and discomfort making them less favorable and not follow the conditional probability found in pop. A dilemma is presented when we question is there any ethical basis of using assassination as a tool of modern warfare. There is increasing realization that one cannot engage in war using the conventional means. Assassination though is not a just means of engaging in warfare as explained by Gross (2010) since there is no basis of choosing who is a terrorist engaging in warfare and who is not a terrorist. Nelson Mandela was labeled a terrorist by the South African government but he subsequently became a head of state and leader of South Africa. • 39. Wendy Wasserstein s Tender Offer The number one priority for family is making time to enjoy each other. Through the use of a trivial conversation, Wendy Wasserstein play, Tender Offer shows a father finding a meaningful moment to reconnect with his daughter. By establishing a tender offer Paul reassures his commitment to increasing the opportunities to communicate with his daughter. Parents today, would benefit greatly from reading a Tender Offer , to spark a conversation with their children, and agreeing to commit to spending more time together. In the play, the writer set the scene by focusing on a casual conversation between a father and his daughter. By not focusing on one subject exhibited the uneasiness of their relationship. Each topic of conversation is in reference to someone else. Showing their inability to communicate with each other. Children require a great deal of one on one interaction from parents to keep the lines of communication open. With technology as the main form of communicating today, it has replaced the personal conversation between family members. Resulting in a wider communication gap between parents and children. ... Her father used to come home late and go to sleep early (Wasserstein 907). Referring to her friend, is her way of communicating that the problem is also her own. The absence of her father prompted a thought of abandonment and neglect. Just like her friend Talia, her father may plan to leave the home. Many children today are influenced by their peers and they relate their lives to what is happening around them. Parents go off to work in order to provide for the family. • 41. Rio Grande Rift The Rio Grande rift is superimposed on a region with a long and complex history of deformation and heating, which affects the location and com position of the subsequent rift related magmatism (Mack, Seager, Kieling, 1994).. The development of the Rio Grande rift formed part of a series of Cenozoic extensional events that affected the whole of the western USA. These events were contemporaneous with changes in motions of the Farallon and North American plates at the Pacific margin and are widely thought to be genetically related to them by processes such as back arc spreading. Alternative hypotheses re late extension to thermal relaxation and gravity spreading of Laramide thickened crust and magmatism to active asthenospheric upwelling. The Rio Grande rift lies just to the east of the continental divide between the Great Plains and the Colorado Plateau and essentially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following the end of Laramide crustal shortening and Palaeogene magmatism, the initiation of the development of the Rio Grande rift occurred between 31 28 million years ago in southern New Mexico (Berglund et al., 2012).. This rifting propagated northward to northern New Mexico (27 25 million years ago) and Colorado (27 26 Million years ago) (Crow, et.al., 2011). Early crustal extension involved low angle faulting that formed broad basins and predates magmatism at the rift axis. This early phase development of the Rio Grande rift lasted for 10 to 12 million years and was followed by a lull in volcanic activity between 17 and 14 Million years ago. This period of quiescence is apparent throughout the whole of the western USA, and it marks a change from volcanism that was dominated by calc alkaline rhyolites and andesites to bimodal assemblages of basalt and rhyolite. It also marks a change in direction of crustal extension from WSW ENE to E W, that was accompanied by a decrease in the width of the zone of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Canon of the New Testament What we know today as the New Testament was compiled over a period of many decades. It was first referenced as the New Testament by Clement of Alexandria. It is believed that the books that comprise what we know as the New Testament canon were in existence no later than the end of the first century. The included books varied by different sources until the fourth century when the Bishop of Alexandria, Athanasios, included them in a letter to his flock in AD 367. His list was approved by councils at Hippo in AD393 and Carthage in AD397. The process used to arrive at this list varied by time and source. There were many debates along the way and some continue to this day. In order to explore the journey undertaken to arrive at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the top apologists of the time was Irenaeus. He declared that there could only be four gospels and to add or subtract from that number would be heresy. He also countered Marcion who that the Old Testament God had been evil, different from the New Testament God. Marcion wanted to remove all ties to Judaism from Christianity and only accepted Luke and ten of Paul s letters in his canon. Irenaeus responded by emphasizing the authority of all four Gospels and all thirteen of Paul s letters. Marcion s canon was followed by other varying canons over the next two centuries. One list which was very close to our current canon was the Muraturian Canon. It appears to include the four Gospels, Acts, I and II Corinthians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Galatians, I and II Thessalonians, Romans, Philemon, Titus, I and II Timothy, all three epistles of John, and Revelations. It directly rejected the epistles of Paul to the Laodiceans and the Alexandrians, and questioned strongly the Revelation of Peter. The first list that clearly defined the 27 books that we know today as the New Testament was contained in a letter written by Athanasius, the bishop of Rome, in AD 367. In it he declares these books God inspired Scripture...handed down to our fathers by those who were eyewitnesses and servants of the word from the beginning. • 43. The Government Of India With The British Essay There is a natural propensity to evaluate the Government of India with the British. But Indian Parliament and parliamentary institutions and procedures are not a copy of the Westminster system. There are fundamental differences between their system and Indian system. Democracy extends way beyond elections. However, the holding of transparent, credible and accountable elections is important for any democratic country and election observers make a significant contribution in this process. In this essay, I will be heading a team of British officials who will be observing the Parliamentary election process in India in May 2014. Being from Britain, we will witness a lot of similarities between the political systems of India, however there will also be some differences, like India being a federal republic and a parliamentary democracy at the same time while Britain practices constitutional monarchy. Furthermore, India has a president and a prime minister, whereas, although the head of state in Britain is in the form of a prime minister, it also has a symbolic royalty head in the form of a ruling monarch. Generally the elections in India has been quite peaceful, well organized but quite unpredictable at the same time, especially with the growing influence of upcoming parties. English Parliament has developed through somewhere in the range of three hundred years of history. In Britain, it can be the main establishment which practices sovereign forces and on which there are no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Feudalism And The Middle Ages Feudalism In The Middle Ages When people conjure images of the Middle Ages, people think of chaos, war, and little improvement. In fact, much of this is true. During the Middle Ages, a system called the Feudal System was formed to maintain order. It might have made life tough for peasants, but it kept nobles, or upper class people, rich and in power. The Feudal System greatly affected daily life for everyone, but, in time, it collapsed. The constant chaos of the Middle Ages caused the Feudal System to be invented. During this time period, kingdoms in modern day western Europe were under constant threat from invading nations. Most kingdoms had been too large to have just a single figure of power, so Feudalism developed. Feudalism came mostly due to a single king s inability to protect his land by himself (King 26). Another reason was that before the fall of the Roman Empire, an established and powerful entity, the leaders of kingdoms had strong bonds with their people. When the Roman Empire fell, there was no single strong power other than the Pope, and the ties between the leaders and the people broke (Pei). Without these ties, people and their Lords weren t as friendly as before. With no strong power in place, defenses were needed. This is how the Feudal classes came to be, as knights swore to support their lord militarily and their lord swore to protect them (Pei). Because of the constant need for defenses, classes formed: kings, to rule; lords, to control villages; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Positive And Negative Impact Of Social Media And... Introduction Since the new phones are coming out with more and more accessibility to the internet from almost anywhere, social media has grown tremendously. Young teens have unlimited access to sites that influence how they dress, act and talk as well as what they talk about. Social media is not the only type, there are multiple types of media that can play roles in the lives of these adolescents. Mass media plays an intricate role in shaping the minds and ideas of the current adolescent generation in both positive and negative ways. The article Growing Up Wired discusses the impact that social networking sites have had on adolescents and their use of the sites. I hope to discover whether mass media has a positive or negative effect on adolescents by using its impacts and applying them to both sociological concepts of identity as well as groupthink. Media Usage In the article there are many staggering facts about how often social media sites are used and what adolescents are using them for. The article estimates that 11 18 year olds spend up to 11 hours a day on the social media sites and exposed to media via electronics. It is estimated that approximately 73% of adolescents are on social networking sites whether they meet the age restriction or not. The young people s parents are following the footsteps of them by starting to use the sits they see the adolescents on after the adolescents have started using it, this is a parallel to what was expected since these sites were originally adult oriented and created for an older audience. A majority of young people will wake up and check their social media profiles as well as check them again before going to bed at night. How that Impacts Day to Day Life The constant checking of social media and electronic sites can become interruptive to daily tasks. For things like paying attention in class the thought of checking social networking sites can be enough cause for distraction. Wondering whether you received any snapchats from people or how many likes your last picture got can be temptation enough to pull out a phone and check to see if you have notifications from your favourite sites.
