2. What Is The Criticism Of Fairy Tales
2. Literature review
2.1 Introduction
In modern literary criticism, fairy tales are not only considered as the stories for children to learn
morality or to explore the world of fantasy, but also a type of serious literary text open to be
interpreted from different perspectives. Among all modern literary criticism, spatial theories lead
critics to understand the relationships among nature, individuals and society through a multi
dimensional perspective. Therefore, to conduct a spatial analysis of Oscar Wildes fairy tales, this
section will first introduce an overview of Oscar Wilde and his works except for fairy tales, and
previous studies on his fairy tales from different literary perspectives, such as psychoanalysis,
gender analysis and ascetic analysis. Second, this section will introduce previous studies on spatial
theories employed in this thesis.

Linguistic scholars tend to conduct functional and pragmatic studies to interpret Wilde s fairy
tales. They find that the characters and story plot can be revealed through transitivity processes,
the mood and modality system and the thematic structure. Also, there are scholars employing
cooperative principle to analyze the dialogues in Wilde s stories and find that the distribution of
the turns and turn taking strategies can be used to explain Wilde s characterization processes
(Cai, 2012, p. 79). In addition, linguists also analyze the diction in Wilde s stories based on
corpus. For example, a scholar studies Wilde s nine fairy tales by analyzing the type, degree and
metaphors of the color words written by Wilde, and conclude how the color related words
contribute to the aestheticism of Wilde s fairy tales (Xu, 2009, p.

3. Essay On The Governess In The Turn Of The Screw By Henry...
Henry James was a prominent figure in Victorian Era literature known for his attention to
conscious perception and ambiguous writing. Because of the mystery shrouding his works, people
have become adept at reading between the lines and filling in his plot holes with their own inferred
ideas. His book The Turn of the Screwis one of his most vague and intriguing pieces and has
therefore been a subject of much conflict among critics. Of all possible theories, most boil down to
the reliability of the governess; is she telling the truth, or has she gone insane? Given James
background living with a philosopher father, a psychologist brother and a sister with numerous
mental health issues, critics often choose the latter theory. The governess... Show more content on

The governess is struggling to ignore her desires and maintain society s standards of a perfect
woman as well as preserve her innocence and reliability as an authority figure. Since she was
taught to look down upon women who deviate from societal expectations, she imagines Jessel in
black, pale, and dreadful with a dishonorable connection to Quint (James 50, 52). The apparition
of Miss Jessel forms from all the unacceptable sexual motives she finds within herself; a way to
reprimand her behavior without villainizing herself . In addition, Jessel s affair with Quint reflects
the governess s unconscious desire for a forbidden relationship with the master of Bly (Rodriguez
2). The ghosts provide her with a method to play out her fantasies while avoiding the consequences
of an illegitimate child and harsh judgment, issues Jessel and Quint had experienced in their lives.
Furthermore, the governess is afraid of scaring or tainting the innocence of the children with her
abnormal behavior which is evident through her fear of the ghosts corrupting them. By projecting
her dangerous, evil qualities on ghosts, she convinces herself that she will be inherently better at
watching the children, gaining their trust and even saving them (Otten 2). The governess s method
of projecting her flaws onto unseen ghosts gives her a sense of security and

The Creation of Hawaiian People and Their Islands
Hawaiian mythlogy has numerous legends and a notable one is how Hawai i and its people were
created. The story refers to how people are connected to the land and it showcases one of the
reasons why the urge to care for the land is so strong in the native Hawaiians. The way the myth is
told shows that native Hawaiians literally considered the sky, earth and islands as respected elders.
The Creation of Hawaiian People and Their Islands was originally an unwritten myth and itК»s a

5. Holistic Philosophy Of Education
Over the last several decades the number of education initiatives that describe themselves as holistic
has drastically expanded as the parents, students, and educators have expressed the feeling that a
different option for mainstream education is required. Holistic education is a philosophy of
education based on the premise that each person finds identity, meaning, and purpose in life through
connections to the community, to the natural world, and to humanitarian values such as
compassion and peace.
Holistic education addresses the broadest advancement of the individual at the cognitive and
affective levels. Holistic education concentrates on the relationship between the entire and the part
and proposes that teaching and learning approaches should be established in a bigger vision. Within
this holistic perspective, the student is situated as a dynamic, participatory and critical learner who
sees and comprehends him. The holistic vision incorporates a feeling of the individual who is
associated with his or her encompassing setting and environment (J, Miller 2004). Holistic
education is an adventure for both the teacher and the student.

Power Bases
Coercive Power: Kim Jong Il
A coercive leader leads through fear and intimidation. The key fundamental in this leadership
style is making your followers aware that their failure will ultimately cause some form of
punishment. This can take many forms and has been demonstrated on many scales through
history. Your boss at work that punishes you with extra work should you fail to succeed at a task is
one example. I believe the most coercive leader in our world today is Kim Jong Il. Kim Jong Il has
been the Supreme Commander of North Korea since 1997. His leadership style was shaped through
a strict military background. His beliefs in himself are somewhat vain to most, but the people of

generations. I dare say he went so far with his coercive style that he no longer even needs to be

commander that they no longer have any other thought in their head. He has totally blocked all
internet and media transmissions into North Korea. No news gets in and you can guarantee that
very little gets out. Outsiders are not welcome to visit North Korea unless they are escorted by
officials of the Government everywhere they go. While his coercive style may have shaped his
rule in North Korea it has in some form shifted into a more Legitimate Power. While generations
past may have feared Kim Jong Il the population of North Korea today loves him as their leader.
Where some societies look to religion to fill their spiritual needs, North Koreans look to Kim
Jong Il for the same satisfaction. While he may have had no right to rule in the beginning and
his coercive style solidified his position he is certainly showing Legitimate Power in today s
world. It will be a terrible loss for the people of North Korea when they lose Kim, but at the same
time it may be the best thing that ever happened to them. While their minds are warped from years

Introduction
Transit oriented development (TOD) is a mixed use residential or commercial area intended to
maximize access to public transportation. Such neighborhoods often consist of a center with a
public transit station, bounded by high density growth with gradually lower density development
spreading outward from the center. TODs or transit zones are typically located within a radius of
one half mile from a transit station, as this is generally considered a reasonable walking distance for
pedestrians. However, geographic proximity alone does not make development transit oriented.
Indeed, many developments can be said to be transit adjacent (i.e. within close physical proximity
to transit) but not necessarily designed to promote access and use. On contrary, TOD creates a
thrilling community centered on transit access and reduced automobile dependence. As such, a
pedestrian friendly environment is critical to TOD, but is not essential to transit adjacent
development. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Sound of Music is one of the most favorite musical film movies of all time. The movie was
first introduced to the audience in 1965, and it received popular attention from the public and five
Academy Awards including Best Picture. The movie s plot revolves around Maria, a young woman
who has to leave the convent to become a governess at the Von Trappfamily due to a request from
the head nun. During the time at the Von Trapp s house, Maria finds her affection grows bigger
every day with the seven children and the naval officer widower, Captain Georg Von Trapp. In
2013, NBC decided to produce The Sound of MusicLive! as a live television stage production
which based on the original Broadway show in 1959. In both versions, The Sound of Music(1965)
and The Sound of Music Live (2013) have similarities as well as differences in their casts,
formats, and public s opinion. The Sound of Music s huge success in 1965 was mostly because
of the exceptional cast, especially main actress Julie Andrews. For a long time, Julie Andrews
has been remembered as a talented actress with her outstanding voice. Julie Andrews has the full
package to become the star of the movie, and she surely didn t go low on the expectation many
people had in her. Before The Sound of Music became famous, Andrews has already been widely
known for her acting skills. Many critics and fans praised her performance in The Sound of Music

11. Effects Of Data Aggregation In Wireless Sensor Networks
Data Aggregation in Wireless Sensor Networks Introduction
Wireless sensor networks are usually deployed in infrastructure less environment with the sensor
nodes themselves being battery powered (low powered) devices so, data aggregation is an
attractive method to reduce the power requirements of the individual sensor nodes that sense, record
and transmit the data about their surroundings. Data aggregation may refer to any number of
methods that allow for the reduction of the volume of data that the sensor nodes must exchange by
combining data from multiple sources and removing redundancies, thereby reducing the power
consumption by the sensor nodes.
The main goal of data aggregation algorithms is to gather and aggregate data in an energy ... Show

Some node like cluster head aggregate the data prompting in network aggregation. Aggregation
structures can be hierarchy based or backbone based or even structureless. Structure less protocols
try to eliminate the energy consumption of maintaining structures and are preferred for small
networks. For larger ad hoc wireless sensor networks hierarchy based networks like tree based,
cluster based aggregation is preferred.
The Tiny AGgregation(TAG), Energy Aware Data Aggregation (EADA) are examples of
protocols based on Tree structure. Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) is a
well known cluster based protocol. Both tree based and cluster based rely on passing and
aggregating data at a higher level node (cluster head/ root of branch) thereby exploiting the
topology of the network. Theses protocols aggregate data from multiple sources at a node a layer
higher in topology to the source node. Usually statistical sampling is done to remove the
redundancies and improve the accuracy of generated data (that is sent) to the raw data.
Aggregation structures introduce latency to the network but reduce the amount and number of
transmissions thereby saving the network capacity.
Aggregation Functions: Protocols based purely on how to aggregate data exists. These protocols
rely on forecasting and/or compression of data to reduce the transmissions and hence improve the
energy efficiency. However, the tradeoff here is that the

12. The Rhetorical Analysis Of William Faulkner s Barn Burning
Cold Metal, Hot Flame
William Faulkner s Barn Burning is a well versed rendition of the post Civil War era, about the
lives of a family of poor tenant farmers. This story s setting is in a fictional (yet almost familiar)
county in Mississippi, and is told through the eyes of a young boy. In a detached sort of tone,
Faulkner takes us step by step through the ups and downs of Abner s moods, and how his youngest
son, Sarty, perceives them. Here is the thesis statement: However, it is Faulkner s style, tone, and
use of long, flowing sentences, that most stand out to the reader. .
In Barn Burning , Sarty s father, Abner, shows hostility to everyone around him and adds an
unspoken element to the setting that you can feel and imagine as you read. You can instantly see
how Sarty views his father, always comparing him to a cold hard metal that is tempered by a hot
flame: He could see his father against the stars but without face or depth a shape black, flat, and
bloodless as though cut from tin in the iron fold of the frockcoat which had not been made for
him, the voice harsh like tin and without heat like tin (127). It is ironic for Abner to be compared
to a cold metal, when he is totally consumed with a fiery hatred. The reader can almost feel Abner
s deep dislike of anyone who owns anything or has money. Faulkner s descriptions are colorful,
elaborate, and a key part of his style.
Focusing on Abner, the reader senses he thrives off seeking revenge when he feels wronged, and he
responds with his emotions and relates it to the destruction caused by fire. However, he only uses
fire in what he feels to be extreme circumstances, because the element of fire spoke to some deep
mainspring of his father s being, as the element of steel or of powder spoke to other men, as the
one weapon for the preservation of integrity, else breath were not worth the breathing, and hence to
be regarded with respect and used with discretion (127). Abner s mood is important to the setting in
the way that speaks openly about Southern hostility and how it is almost always bottled up inside
until the anger and resentment are no longer bearable. That s when the barns burn down.
From the reader s point of view, the tone of the

Emily Prager s Our Barbies, Ourselves?
In the essay Our Barbies, Ourselves, Emily Prager explores the history of the Barbie doll and
talks about the Barbie doll itself. Prager seems convinced that the Barbie doll was an object
created by a man and that Barbie reeks of sexuality, sexual innuendo and serves as the anti
feminist embodiment of every man s fantasy. In her own expressive and persuasive modes to
fashion an essay designed to persuade the reader that the Barbie doll is a twisted and corrupt tool

It is entirely possible that Barbie is the best of both worlds. Sexy yet smart. Balancing the extreme
worlds of male fantasy and feminine idealism.
Paragraph 7 talks about Prager?s feelings towards Barbie?s boyfriend, Ken. Prager feels that if
Barbie was too sexual, then Ken was the opposite with little or no sexuality at all. His
appearance was plain, a vast difference from the sculpted curves and slopes of Barbie?s body.
Prager suggests that this is because of Ken?s concealed sexuality and Barbie?s exposed
sexuality. His plastic painted on jockey briefs were a far cry from Barbie?s larger than life bra
free breasts. Prager continues with her conclusion that Barbie must somehow be sexually
frustrated, because of Ken?s lack of sexuality, and no matter how sexy she is, or what she does,
she will never be able to turn Ken on.
It is my opinion that Prager has failed in her attempts to persuade the reader that Barbie is a tool
created from male fantasy or a poster child for modern feminism. If anything this essay has
helped me to realize that Barbie is a combination of both worlds. She is both sexually appealing
to men and someone that women can admire and even a toy that little girls can play with and hope
to be like when they are older. I still remain adamantly devoted to my Barbie dolls, seeing her as
neither temptress or sexually frustrated object.

Society and how it has shaped me into the person I am today? I can recall growing up as a kid,
we didn t have the fancy things like kids do today. We were able to get by with what we had. My

17. United States Legal Analysis Of The Hague Convention
When there is evidence that the wellbeing of a child would be endangered by a parent then sole
or singular custody should be the preference over joint custody, also when there is proof that a
parent has been abused and flees with a child that child should not be returned to the abusive
parent. Over the years the U.S. has changed it procedure concerning grave risk of harm regarding
Hague cases and found it not in the child s best interest to be ordered to return to a domestic
violencesituation without a full investigation of the nature of the abuse and of the likelihood that
the authorities in the country to which the children are being returned will indeed fully protect
them and their abused mother . [1]
The U.S. Department of States Legal Analysis of the Hague Convention (51 Fed. Reg. 10494
(1986)) prepared for the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations to which the Convention was
referred, confirms the intention that Article 13 was intended to be afforded a narrow interpretation.
In this regard the State Department stated that the drafters were aware that any exceptions had to be
drawn very narrowly lest their application undermine the express purposes of the Convention to
effect the prompt return of abducted children; that it was generally believed that courts would

Article 13(b) was not intended to be used by defendants as a vehicle to litigate (or relitigate) the

Breatharianism
The urge to write an article in tribute to George Bernard Shaw made me study the plays, written
by him, back to back. In this course, I came across a short play named Farfetched Fables , which
had the collection of six short fables. Fables, heard so far, being an expressive form of fiction,
were filled with mythical places and creatures, and with the morals at the end of the story. But
G.B. Shaw s fables, in contrary, were filled with his several idiosyncratic personal ideas of the
realistic nature like the invention of poisonous gas, lighter than air, and its wrong use that
unleashed a dark age in the first two fables; development of techniques to measure the human
capabilities and the tests conducted to develop the same in third fable; the fifth one, being the
discussion about the human reproduction, ending with the dialogue The pursuit of knowledge and
power will never end ; and the sixth final fable is the discussion between the students about the
existence of purely disembodied beings, who live their entire life for Knowledge and Power and

The industrial expansion of the Soviet Union resulted in one of the greatest economic growths for

country s economic growth occurred because of the USSR s use of a command economy, which is

21. Hebrews In Babylonia
(1) What events lead to the exile of the Hebrews in Babylonia? To the Hebrew people, their exile
to Babylonia and the destruction of the First Temple was brought on because they had displeased
Yahweh by not following his laws and by not living a lifestyle devoted to him. Once the Hebrews
reached the land of Canaan, division splintered them into eleven tribes, but with war constantly
occurring in the neighboring nations, the Israelitessoon realized they had to unite if the Jewish
people and religion were going to survive: The eleven Hebrew tribes were united under one king.
The Kingdom of Israelprospered for a short time and under the rule of King David and the aid of
his son Solomon the First Temple was constructed as a home for Yahweh. But when Solomon died,

The idea of Satan is linked to the Babylonian Exile/Captivity due to the influences that
Babylonian culture had on the Hebrew people. This includes the evil spirits and demons in
Babylonian belief and resentment towards Babylonians for the destruction of the First
Temple/ the exile of the Hebrews in Babylonia. Satan is an evil spirit who fights against god and
his people, belief in him and his stance against god stems from the mistreatment of the
Jewish people by Babylonians which was seen as a stance the Babylonians took against Yahweh.
The religion of the conquering people also influenced the idea of Satan in Judaism and is evident by
the similarities that Babylonian evil spirits share with the many depictions of Satan in Jewish belief.

22. Theme Of The Dictators By Pablo Neruda
In Pablo Neruda s poetry it was evident that symbolism was utilized to strengthen his main theme
throughout his poems, some being The Dictators , Hunger in the South , The Beggars , and To
the foot from its child , and within these poems the main theme would be shown to be the unfair
distribution of power and wealth in the Chilean society. In the poem The Dictators Neruda
focuses on the leaders of the country and comparing their work to the work of those who lived
in poverty. Neruda sets a base for these four poems where they re all centered on the same idea,
such as the one in The Dictators , comparing those who were part of the upper class, and how
they affected the lives of others. Neruda as a poet found many effective ways to emphasize his
opinions and views within his own community, which is why many people who did not agree with
his views found Neruda to be dangerous and too influential over the public in Chile. Over time as
Neruda wrote more poems, a pattern had been shown through his work. Symbolism was the one
of the many effective ways that Neruda chose to expose the reality of the society, the difference of
symbolism to the other ways was that symbolism forced the reader to think deeper about certain
topics and that would soon make them realize the brutality of what was Chile. An odor stayed in
the cane fields:/ carrion, blood, and a nausea/ of harrowing petals./ Between coconut palms lay the

How does Polanski convey the notion of man s inhumanity through cinematic techniques in The
Pianist? Roman Polanski s The Pianist, released in 2002, shares a realistic encounter of man s
inhumanity in World War II. Full of scenes that show the ruthless behaviour of the Nazis, Polanski
presents the idea of man s inhumanity at the time of Hitler s rise to power in Germany through
skilful cinematography. Although Polanski uses many different cinematic techniques, three of
them are more strongly drawn upon than others: lighting, camera angles, and sound. The lighting
in the film works around a realistic perception of style, reflecting the situation in World War II.
The use of dull colours emphasises the depressive feeling of the characters. An example of this
can be seen in an interior scene of an apartment of one of Szpilman s friends who is trying to help
him. Bright, natural lighting is used to create a clear opposition between the world of the
protagonist and the Polish people who are considered more privileged. This... Show more content on

24. Satire In A Modest Proposal
The Morality of Irish Baby Food
It is human nature to want to believe that if you have good living conditions, the everyone else
must also have good living conditions; however, if someone did not fit this ideal, then it was his or
her own fault and no one else had anything to do with it. This was a common theme centuries ago,
and it still a common theme today, though which particular characterizes makes someone privileged
continues to change over time. In Jonathan Swift s essay A Modest Proposal, Swift uses the
elements of satire to ridicule Irish oppressors, specifically the Catholics and the rich.

America and England, both locations being disliked by the Irish in varying amounts. Swift is
satirizing the Catholics and outside oppressors through his constant use of irony when speaking
about the unnecessary number of children in Ireland, especially after the prior famines.
Swift also uses hyperbole to show the differences between the rich and poor and the Catholics
and Protestants. In the first paragraph of A Modest Proposal, Swift exaggerates the way mothers
are forced to employ all their time in strolling to beg sustenance for their helpless infants (1) and
suggests that the only possible outcomes for these infants are to turn thieves for want of work, or
leave their dear native country, to fight for the Pretender in Spain, or sell themselves to the
Barbadoes (1). In omitting other possibilities, Swift is using hyperbole to portray the lack of
options for the poor in Ireland. Moreover, he dehumanizes the children when he decides that of the

Non verbal communication is especially significant in intercultural situations (Businesscom, 2015).
In a business setting duties performed are the main reasons for an employees success, though
studies and reports show that nonverbal communications can hinder or excel an employees
relationships. Ultimately, nonverbal communications can benefit a business. With the
communicationof nonverbal there are many forms that help to read body language and true

play a role in
communication, but also it plays a role at a staggering greater than 50%, and some studies higher

communication. Nonverbal communication has been a long time institute and is rooted from

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
Many questions about the causes of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), also known as crib
death, are still unresolved. The mysterious and elusive nature of SIDS creates problems, doubts,
and more questions. This paper will present some of the most commonly asked questions as well as
the answers that have been uncovered by scientists after years of research and study.
In 1969, researchers agreed to define SIDS as the sudden death of an infant or young child, which is
unexpected by history, and in which a thorough postmortem examination fails to demonstrate an
adequate cause of death (Bergman, 1970).

Some people say the number is closer to 7,000 (Goyco and Beckerman, 1990). When putting it all
together the number of lives births each year, SIDS remains the leading cause of death in the
United States among infants between one month and one year of age and second only to
congenital anomalies as the leading overall cause of death for all infants less than one year of age.
How Do Professionals Diagnose SIDS? Back before people known about this disease, people often
thought they killed the baby. But, now we have autopsy to determine the cause of death. Often the
cause of an infant death can be determined only through a process of collecting information,
conducting sometimes complex tests, and talking with parents and physicians.
How Smoking Affects SIDS? First of all, cigarettes are bad for a regular person. Cigarette
smoking by the mother during pregnancy has been consistently shown in studies as a risk factor
for SIDS. A study measuring the level of tobacco smoke exposure in SIDS victims to a control
group of infants that had died of other causes. Relying on the continue concentration taken from the
pericardial fluid, researchers found that the SIDS victims were more likely to have high the
concentrations of cotinine in the fluid than the control infants. Cotinine is produced as the liver

recognise a DTA of $109.7mil to represent a tax saving so the taxable amounts will be available
in the future to utilise the temporary differences, losses and offsets. The tax loss is carried forward
as a deduction against future taxable income (Leo, Hoggett, Sweeting, Nicholson, 2012) in FY2014
by partially reversing the DTA by $35mil.
The deductible temporary differences between the carrying value and the tax bases of depreciation
/amortization is higher in FY2014 due to the higher asset balance as a result of the deferred
stripping asset and increased ore mined which increased the expense for the year.
The income tax refund has reduced from $6.5mil in FY2013 to $0.8million in FY2014. In

Boxers can develop cancer, and so on. As previously stated, though breeds can widely vary in
size and build, their anatomy and physiology is still that of a dog. Dogs have a fourth head of
their triceps brachii. This is known as the accessory head. They walk on their phalanges, which
are also home to their thick paw pads. Dogs sweat from their paw pads and their noses only. The
muzzle of a dog can vary between breeds as well. An English Bulldog has a much more flattened
snout than a Collie. When a dog is panting, its respiratory system is regulating its body temperature.

Male dependence and dominance in A Streetcar Named Desire
For many generations American men have dominated both marital relationships and society in
general. This domination has resulted in a dependence on men for economic stability and an
illusory happiness believed by women. This falsified necessity for a male counterpart has resulted
in the destruction of female independence and sexual oppression. Through close analysis of the
behaviors and beliefs of the female protagonist in the play, A streetcar named desireby Tennessee

Through close research of this play, many quotes from both primary and secondary sources
prove her dependence. We can assume that Blanche s entire perspective is that men are her only
source of happiness and success. First, Blanche is very conscious of her appearance; hiding
herself under dim lights and make up, afraid of being judged by men around her. Whoever you
are I have always depended on the kindness of strangers (Williams 142), Blanche s need for
kindness of strangers refers to her miscellaneous encounters with men in the past to make her
feel worthy. She means what she says when she urges them not to notice her (toles). Toles refers
to scene 3, where it is evident that Blanche seeks approval from men around her even though
they payed no mind to her. Another demonstration of her need for admiration to gain self
confidence is this excerpt You haven t said a word about my appearance (Williams 21), where
she urged Stanley to notice her to fulfill her desire to feel beautiful. Not only did Blanche believe
a male s opinion was almost a necessity, she also believed that they were the only thing that can
save her despair. In scene four Blanche states Y know how indifferent I am to money. I think of
money in terms of what it does for you but he could do it, he could certainly do it (67) the reader
can assume she believes that Shep Huntleigh can pull her and her sister Stella out their poverty.
Since she has shown a willingness to believe that shep huntleigh, a creature of fantasy, may be

where it is acceptable to pocket a business card upon receipt, it is considered extremely rude and

As we can see here the editorial stage directions added in the 2010 Macmillan version of the script
by Jonathan Bate and Eric Rasmussen are the only one s present, meaning that when the production
was originally staged there were no stage directions on the folio for the actors to follow. However,
Shakespeare leaves subtle little clues and suggestions within the text itself, in this particular

The fourth criterion is to ensure that the system is integrated with all other HRM functions, and that

is the fifth criterion, the system, its objectives and the rewards must be effectively communicated to

the objectives and returns are being achieved. In addition RM has strong links with the following
Human Resource Management (HRM) functions; job analysis, recruitment, performance assessment
and union management relations.
As stated by Lawler (2002) individual based pay should be used to reward persons for their skills,

one third human. However, he is young and oppresses his people ruthlessly. The story takes the
reader on a journey through a series of events that ultimately leads Gilgamesh to find his true self.
One important historical event that took place is the flood, which occurs in both the Epic of
Gilgameshand the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament. The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of
Genesis in the Old Testament share a great amount of similarities.
In both books, there are Gods who possess almighty powers on earth. In the Epic of Gilgamesh,
Enlil, the god of the winds, calls for a flood to end all of mankind because man was too noisy.
Similarly, in the Book of Genesis, God calls for a great flood to destroy all mankind because they
were sinning. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Ea, the god of wisdom tells Utnapishtim in a dream to tear

Even though both were terrible floods that ended all of mankind. Genesis from the old
Testament had a duration of 40 long days and nights. In the old Testament the means of the flood
were heavy rain and ground water. On the other hand is Gilgamesh which had a duration of
short 6 days and nights. It also ended with only just heavy rain no ground water. Also the shape
of the ark was a big difference, in Genesis its shape is a rectangular type of shape. In Gligamesh
its more of a square shaped boat. When the flood was all over they released birds to test the land
and find a secure location. In Genesis the birds that were used was raven and three doves but on
the other hand Gilgamesh used a Dove, swallow a Raven. When word came back about where to
head thats when both stories sperated from each other because Genesis landed at Mt. Ararat while
Gilgamesh landed at Mt. Nisir. Both Noah and Utnapishtim were blessed and made sacririfes to

42. The Best Practice Procedures The Cls Have Set Up A Number...
To coincide with the best practice procedures the CLS have set up a number of risk management
procedures for its members and the procedures to become a member. Every instruction must go
through various tests before it is accepted by the CLS. (Swiss National Bank p. 8) This series of
test includes that the institutions must have a positive overall account balance of the
participant s sub accounts with the CLS, a short position limit in any one currency, and
aggregate shore positions. (Swiss National Bank p. 8) The first factor of the test of an overall
positive account balance is the most important quota to meet for the CLS. By having a positive
balance the institution is showing the CLS that they have outstanding credit and will be able to
make payments when they make a deal or transaction through the CLS. By safeguarding the
credit of institutions applying to be members of the group the CLS are lowering the percentages
and allowance for risk knowing that at the time of admittance the pursuing member was in good
credit and showed no signs of not being able to pay their transactions. The second risk
management of short position limits helps to ensure that institutions will not run into liquidity
problems. Each member of the group is allowed an identical limit per currency. By creating these
limits the CLS are trying to lower the risk and keep a fair and stable market. If one currency takes a
major dive it will not have such a large effect on a members liquidity as

43. Essay on Edwin Arlington Robinson biography
Supremacy
1) There is a drear and lonely tract of hell
2) From all the common gloom removed afar:
3) A flat, sad land it is, where shadows are,
4) Whose lorn estate my verse may never tell.
5) I walked among them and I knew them well:
6) Men I had slandered on life s little star
7) for churls and sluggards; and I knew the scar
8) upon their brows of woe ineffable.
9) But as I went majestic on my way,
10) Into the dark they vanished, one by one,
11) Till, with a shaft of God s eternal day,
12) The dream of all my glory was undone,
13) And, with a fool s importunate dismay,
14) I heard the dead men singing in the sun.

The Man Who Died Twice and Tristram The last two of these won Pulitzer Prizes in 1925 and
1927, when he was elected as a member of the National Academy of Arts and Letters.
Robinson never married but enjoyed the company of many friends. He died of cancer in hospital
in New York on April 6, 1935. A few of his most known poems are, The Children of the Night
Captain Craig The Town Down the River The Man against the Sky The Three Taverns and Avon s
Harvest. He had 3 Pulitzer prizes awarded to him.
For the first twenty years of Robinson s writing career, he had difficulty in getting published and
attracting an audience. He published his first two volumes privately and friends secretly guaranteed
the publication of the third. He did receive positive reviews from the beginning, however, and with
the publication of The Man Against the Sky in 1916 his reputation was secure.
For the rest of his life he was widely regarded as quot;America s foremost poet, quot; as William
Stanley Braithwaite put it. Both academics and the general public held him in high esteem, as
attested by the fact of his winning three Pulitzer Prizes for poetry for volumes published in 1921,
1924, and 1927, when his Tristram became a national best seller.
Although Robinson s subject matter and philosophical stance differ markedly from that of his
predecessors , his form
45. Argumentative Essay On Excessive Screen Time
Lately, the issue of excessive screen time is becoming increasingly important in pediatrics, and it
has become a major risk factor for many chronic conditions such as vision impairment, obesity, and
altercations to social behavior. While many parents realize that excessive screen time is harmful,
children are still spending eight to ten hours on their electronic devices. Not many parents realize
that proper regulation is also needed to keep their child safe from health risks. According to the
National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute, 28 percent of parents set TV watching rules, 30 percent
set rules about video gameuse, and 36 percent of parents set rules about computer use ( Reduce
Screen Time, 2013). This is a problem because 60 percent of children are constantly stumbling upon
explicit content every year, and their behavior shifts more negatively and aggressively (Lunsford,
510). I believe that too much screen time can pose much harm to a child s health and well being. If
we don t find ways to limit excessive screen time than children will face many consequences that
will ultimately harm them as they grow older.
Screen time is any time spent using an electronic device such as a computer, T.V, phone, or video
game console. Many statistics have shown that an average adult spends nearly eight hours of
screen time a day while children spend eight to ten hours a day (Lunsford, 513). Comparing the two
pieces of data, children spend more time on electronics than many adults do,

46. Le Cordon Bleu By Julia Child Summary
Written by Julia Child, the article Le Cordon Bleu opens up a world of cooking to her readers. In
order to fulfill her dreams, Child enrolled in a class at le Cordon Bleu, and from then on, Child
learned the basics of cuisine with classmates and Chef Bugnard. During class, demonstrations were
held by Child s favorite instructors named Pierre Mangelatte and Claude Thilmont, who both
impacted Child as a chef. Meanwhile, Child was growing into a promising cook; but now in the
light of her final examination, she had to prepare very diligently. After obtaining an exam, Child
started her test: except she had forgotten what the assigned dish was! Unfortunately, she promptly
failed to earn her diploma. Buried in shame, Child reflects that it was... Show more content on

Despite Child s defeat at Le Cordon Bleu, she became one of the most famous cooks in American
history. Clearly, excessive schooling is not needed to become successful in cooking. This
revelation is also seen in Lisa Suhay s article, What was the recipe for Le Cordon Bleu s US school
closings? , when she states, [I believe] that formal education is not what [chefs] look for in [their]
culinary staff. (Suhay 1). Although many job recruiters look for experience when looking for
jobs, certain jobs like cooking value more talent than what is in the resume. Consequently, this
change in hiring is fueling the new generation, the millennials. Additionally, many people have
become successful without higher schooling for their profession, for example; Steve Jobs, Bill
Gates, and Ina Garten. Evidently, the talent based success of other celebrities shows that for
certain fields, passion is worth more than the rising price for a diploma. Understanding the need
for certain professions and knowing what they are looking for in an employee has the potential to
save the stress and money for college and help take an individual to their dream job sooner and
more efficiently. Clearly, this belief was not founded nor liked in the early twentieth century. For
Child, although the staggering financial cost of schooling was a problem,

47. Essay about Sir Thomas More the Martyr
The definition of a martyr is a person who willingly suffers death rather than renounce his or her
religion. When Sir Thomas More died in July of 1535, he became a martyr. In the play A Man
for All Seasons, author Robert Bolt shows us his views on how More came to his death . In this
play, Thomas Cromwell, Richard Rich, King Henry VIII, and Sir Thomas Morehimself are
responsible for his death. Although it could be argued that many more people in Sir Thomas More
s life had a part in contributing to his death, these four characters had the greatest part in eventually
bringing him to his death. Some people may say that Cromwell and Rich were just pawns in the
King s plot, however they can t possibly argue that they weren t in control... Show more content on

He feels that if More publicizes the divorce it would proceed without a great amount of public
revolt as he is such a man of his principles and religion. He hopes that the people would see that if
More is promoting the divorce than it must be acceptable. At one point in the play, King Henry
tells More, not to pursue me on this matter (54), but after More accepted the position of
Chancellor, King Henry began badgering him to help with the affair. Henry s behaviour became
more violent and intense towards More as he continually declines to comment on the divorce.
Despite the fact that King Henry promised again to More, There, you have my word I ll leave
you out of it (56), he hired Cromwell to try to convince him to make a statement. King Henry
wanted More s approval so badly that he comes up with two possible scenarios. He Wants either
Sir Thomas More to bless his marriage or Sir Thomas More destroyed (119). Lastly, Sir Thomas
More should by no means be considered an innocent bystander in his own death. He makes poor
choices throughout the play that put him on the edge and eventually push him over, towards his
death. The first mistake that More makes is when he accepts the position of Chancellor, despite his
answering no (35) when Margaret asked would you want to be Chancellor? (35). Although he is
portrayed as being a man of his principles and his own thoughts, it seems as though in his heart he

48. Barriers to Entry and Exit (Symbian)
Market entry and exit constitute major business strategy decisions reflecting a strategic initiative on
the part of a firm to develop, or reshape, its product or market positioning
Barriers to entry are obstacles in the way of firms attempting to enter a particular market, which
may operate to give established firms particular advantage over investment. They are factors that
allow incumbent firms to earn positive economic profits, while making it unprofitable for new
comers to enter the industry. Barriers to entry may be structural or strategic. Structural entry barriers
result when the incumbent has natural costs or marketing advantages or benefits from favorable
regulations. Strategic entry barriers result when the incumbent ... Show more content on

In this case, even though Microsoft has been very familiar with what the Symbian OS is trying to
offer, giving mobile phones the ability to function like that of a personal computer, including e
mail, web browsing, electronic messaging and digital photography, it would be costly for them to
develop their windows mobile software in that direction with the bulk of the mobile phone
manufacturing market share in the hands of the companies using the Symbian OS as a base for
their products.
This phenomena, however, was only seen for a short period of time as Microsoft was both huge in
both technological advances and financial capabilities. With WM6, they successfully integrated into
the mobile phone market, incorporating touch screen interface for their operating systems and
working with major business phone manufacturers such as HTC and LG. As such, Microsoft hopes
that the industry would develop the way they did for the computing industry.
Thus far, we do not really see a shift in that arena, with Symbian having tied up virtually the entire
market, and also the 3 3.5G era in its infant stage, only time will be witness to whether the cellular
market moves in the same direction. o Marketing Advantages in incumbency
As mentioned above, major mobile phone manufacturers have come together, developing the
Symbian OS as a barrier to entry to Microsoft. In that sense, with the major companies holding bulk
of the market share, they stand to gain many

49. Persuasive Speech About Adoption
For those of you who don t know I am adopted. My adoption story may be a little different than
other adoption stories. Things had happened at that point or were going to happen in the future
that would change me. I was adopted at age 4 and my sister was about 1 at the time. My adoption
stayed open which means if I wanted I could still have contact with my birth family. Adoptionin
itself teaches you a lot, but sometimes the different things that happen can teach you more.
One day my mom came and found me and my sister and told us we had to go somewhere. We
went and found our shoes and started heading out the door. My sister and I started hoping down
the front steps just about running into a vehicle parked out front. My mom told me and my
sister to get in, both of us were kind of scared but we did it anyways. So me and my sister
attempted getting into the big vehicle, well it may not have been that big, but to us it seemed
like it was. We drove for what seemed like hours till all of a sudden the car stopped. I opened the
door and hoped out onto the cold hard cement. I didn t know where we were at, I had never seen
this place before. The people in the car and my mom told us to go up to the front steps and they
will be right behind us. So me and my sister made our way up the steps and to a big front door.
We looked and found a doorbell and chose to push it. After just a little while the door opened and
this younger couple looked down at us with huge smiles on their faces.

50. How Taxpayers Are The Funders For Public Facilities Such...
Taxpayers are the funders for public facilities such as corrections. Jail and prisons are funded
through tax dollars and therefore have interest when dealing with these programs. Research done
by New Mexico Corrections Department found that Ninety five percent of offenders incarcerated
would be released back into the community. A more staggering statistic is that fifty percent of the
offenders will return to prion within five years (NMlegis). This display a breakdown through our
criminal system where half of those incarcerated will return. It is the job of the facility not to solely
punish but teach the inmates how to learn acceptably in society. The audience for this article is
directed towards the legislative branch and the cost of inmates returning back to prisonor jail. One
of the ways that is truly upsetting to me is the talk of the economical burden these inmates place
on the taxpayers. If the statement read, reducing recidivism, even by just ten percent, can save
thousands of families it would be perfect. Instead to get the point to those who have the ability to
make changes it reads, Reducing recidivism, even just by ten percent, can save millions
(NMlegis). The article isn t talking about millions of families or broken homes it is talking about
millions of dollars. The approach that we have in our country is based off the philosophy that they
are making investments which will yield the best and most cost effective results to support the state
s performance based
