This paper explores related research in aspects of language acquisition, specifically,
reading instruction and its effect on students who live in low socioeconomic
environments. We will review the methods of explicit phonics and whole language to
examine what, if any, is the more advantageous method of reading instruction for
students who live in poverty. The purpose of this literature review is to investigate the
impacts of specific reading instruction on the literacy development of children and
how socioeconomics restricts these impacts. The research reviewed was collected
from peer review journals using the Central Search feature on the UCO Chambers
Library website. The majority of the researcher s findings came from EBSCOhost
Education Research Complete and JSTOR: Journal Storage. Given the findings of
this literature review, research suggests that explicit phonics instruction, when
embedded in a whole language classroom, promotes growth in literacy skills among
young children. Research suggests that multisensory phonics, based on Orton

unexpectedly embarked upon something that has made me look at literature
differently.
I m a student at Newman University in Birmingham and honestly, when I heard the
words literary festival my heart sank to somewhere not appropriate to mention (it
begins with b and ends in um ). I panicked before the events, on my first event, I
didn t know what to wear. Did I go classy and middle class or put on my best Miss
Moneypenny glasses and borrow my Nan s cardigan? Really, I was so flustered
trying to get into Birmingham city centre (which took an hour) that when I arrived
my jacket was screwed up in my bag and my hair was mostly in my mouth. So
instead I just went with big fluffy comfort clothes and my paper and pen. Turns out,

who have children with intellectual disabilities using solution focused brief therapy
(SFBT). The participants consisted of mothers who were interviewed two weeks after
the initial session. The SFBT session was a stand alone session that was designed to

Helpful Aspects of Therapy Questionnaire after the end of the session. Participants
listened to excerpts from their therapeutic sessions that they identified as helpful or

Through the interventions there were three major themes that were identified; SFBT

unethical. From the agent s perspective, it is important for him to build his clientele
thus building his reputation amongst athletes. When an athlete hires an agent, they

negotiating endorsement deals, career advice, contract negotiations, and concierge

In this application, I will research and analyze Anti Miscegenation Statutes within the
United States and evaluate two cases that are associated with them. Miscegenation is
the method of mixing varionus races, whether they are mixed by marriage,
procreation, or even sexual intercourse. (Martin) Anti Miscegenation laws embraced
racial segregation because it was a crime for different races of people to get
married. These laws were initiated in the late 17th century and continued until
1967. All of the anti miscegenation laws in the United States barred marriages that
consisted of individuals who were white and those who were considered non
white. So a white male and black woman could not have been married or even in a
relationship without it being a crime back then. Some examples of miscegenation
laws was when Oklahoma in 1908 had a law on books that barred marriages
between Africans and non Africans, 1920, Louisiana barred marriages between
blacks and Native Americans, and in 1935, Maryland prohibited the marriages
between Filipinos and blacks. (Pascoe, 2009) Two cases that are relevant to
miscegenation are Loving v. Virginiaand Perez v. Sharp.
Loving v. Virginia
Facts of the case: this was a landmark civil rights case that overturned laws that
prohibited interracial marriage. The case involved a black woman named Mildred
Loving and a white man Richard Loving, who was sentenced to prison in the state
of Virginia for getting married. It was a crime because the marriage of the two was a
violation of the state s anti miscegenation law, which was called the Racial Integrity
Act of 1924. The couple got married in Washington, DC and upon their return they
were indicted for unlawful cohabitation and placed in jail. Mildred Loving wrote a
letter to the Attorney General; who was Robert F. Kennedy for assistance and in
return she was referred to the ACLU who represented the couple in the case. The
Supreme Court governed that Virginia s bans on interracial marriages were
considered unconstitutional. The court found that the anti miscegenation laws did
not infringe on the Equal Protection Clause
