Women s Rites Of Passage
Introduction
Every culture in the world has rites of passage. Whether it be death and dying, birth
or a transition from puberty to adulthood, every culture has certain rituals they use to
christen these changes in social status within a society. A rite of passage is symbolic
in how important a change is in the lives of the people who experience them. Status
changes such as these are very important in the eyes of their culture and the
ceremonies they produce help them retain stability while their society adjust to the
changes that are occurring to the individuals. An interesting rite of passage that can
be found in many cultures around the world is a young girls transition into
womanhood. Two of the cultures that one examined this rite in were the Oglala Sioux
of South Dakota, and the Tukuna of the Amazon. With the genocide of the Native
Americans, many of the rituals and ceremonies they use have not been seen by
outsiders. Information on any ceremony can be hard to find. Fortunately, the Oglala
Sioux Wichasa Wakhan, holy man, Black Elk recorded these ceremonies before his
death. In the book The Sacred Pipe, Black Elk discusses the seven sacred rites of the
Oglala Sioux, one of which is Ishna Ta Awi Cha Lowan, preparing a young girlfor
womanhood. (Black Elk, 1989). In this ceremony, the rite is performed just after the
young girls first menstrual cycle. Black Elk states that this transition is very
important to the Oglala Sioux, because this is when a young girl makes
The Psychosocial Impact of Psoriasis, a Skin Condition
Don t judge a book by its cover is one of the greatest known metaphorical phrases in
human history. People constantly identify with and attempt to apply the concept in
everyday life; yet our society has constructed a paradigm in which the perfection of
your skin predetermines your social interactions in life. Likewise it is important to
comprehend that it is not only on the side of society s judgements which
determines your interactions, but it is also that of the lowered self esteem of the
individual. To garner apposite knowledge, the task at hand required the
interviewing of a person with a skin condition with the aim to internalise and
reflect upon the biopsychosocial as well as cultural impacts of the illness. I was
lucky enough to have the privilege of interviewing Jane Doe, a 20 year old white
female with a history of psoriasissince age five. I was introduced to Jane through a
close friend and entering into a professional relationship, she agreed to help me in
my endeavour. Drawing on the principles of interviewing I ensured that it was a
quiet, confidential and comfortable space1; thus it took place in her home. Jane has
had a difficult beginning in life as psoriasis a common, chronic immune mediated
skin disease currently has no cure and is characterised by scaly, reddened patches,
papules, and plaques, which usually itch.2

My Exercise At High School Athletes
I have always been a very active person. I workout five times a week for an hour
and half a day, as well as walking across campus two to three times a day. My
kneecaps have gotten stronger and I created a workout routine that has worked for
me. My weight and my blood pressure are normal. The reason I needed to create my
workout is because I had been a three sport varsity athlete in high school but I
suffered kneecap injuries, which forced me to stop playing. The goals for my
workout were to build up my knees and thigh areas. I also wanted to build muscle
mass in my upper body. I need to eat a good healthy balance of food and drink. I
don t care much for chocolate or sweets and that helps me when it comes to
choosing what to eat. However, I did come to realize that I need to eat more
variety of fruits and vegetables. These goals were met throughout the course of the
semester and I was able to succeed in my workout. I had to make two visits to the
Human Performance Lab Center to get my results to my baseline my level of
fitness. The first time I went to the Human Performance Lab Center it was with the
whole class and the second time by myself. My results from both assessments were
the exact same scores. The Center checked for: weight, height, Body Mass Index
(BMI), body fat, Resting Blood Pressure (BP), Cardiorespiratory fitness, sit and
reach, push ups, curl ups, shoulder flexibility, grip, posture, and wall sitting.
For me the toughest test was the shoulder
The Importance Of A Good Healthy Balanced Diet
For the occupation of nursing it is important that nurses look after themselves both
physically and mentally as the vocation is very demanding. Physically the career
involves things like heavy lifting, long periods of walking/standing, long exhausting
working hours, pushing/pulling and good eyesight and vision which is a very hard
to maintain if you are getting little to no sleep. Mentally nursing requires you to be
good and quick at making decisions, also you will be analysing the patients and
looking at their care plans so it is important that the nurses are fully focused and able
to concentrate. A good healthy balanced diet is essential and may include foods like:
slow carbohydrates, protein, fats, minerals, vitamins, and water. Diet,... Show more

There are many causes that can interfere with the nurse being able to exercise
regularly and eating a balanced diet. For example: nurses working late, doing
double shifts, getting no breaks due to patients needing continuous care and nurses
finishing late which results in no eating or binge eating and no exercise due to
exhaustion. A lot of nurses are said to have a disturbed eating pattern and there are
many risks associated when this occurs. When a nurse fails to adhere to a balanced
diet and participate in regular exercise they become more fatigue, they lack in
energy because they feel weak. They also have an increasingly high blood pressure
and may even result to depression or anxiety due to the amount of stress they re
under. A nurse can improve their lifestyle by sticking to a structured and well
balanced diet. This includes eating fruit, vegetables, slow release carbohydrates,
protein, fat and vitamins and minerals. It is also important that they try their best
to eat something in between their long exhausting shifts in order to give them
energy and keep them focused. Also in order to improve the lifestyle of a nurse
they should try finding a hobby that interests them whether it is art, music or yoga.
Classes such as yoga can release stress and provide the nurse with positivity energy
and make them feel relaxed. Nurses are seen as role models for other humans as
they should lead by example and stay away from the dangers that affect our bodies.

The Essence of Education
1. Write an essay on The Essence of Education . (1000 2000 words)
I cannot write this essay without reference to study of my own experienced and my
daughter s placed in the harsh environment of the government schooling system and
its observations of the stark belief systems of the child to fit the system and not the
system to fit the child with reference to the what education should be about. This
means different things to different people. To some this means a teacher teaching
and passive learning taking place, the outcome is expected at the end of each year
that each child has to achieve the same outcome and is graded accordingly.
The only problem with this is the removal of freedom and time constraints and a

With this in mind, not only the environment plays the most important function in the
restoration of natural learning, but so does the recognition of the individual. This not
includes the didactic materials available for learning but also includes the nature and
predisposition of the teacher. A teacher who is unkind is forever remembered and
imprinted on the experience of the child, and so it is that no teacher should enter the
profession without being thoroughly researched by the place of employment.
I remember a few of these unkind souls and forever remember their manner and the
effect it had on me. I simply did not wish to be there in the presence of these
teachers, so went out of my way to stay away. The harsh reality was that I failed to
prosper in these classes. One has to ask if this is right and if the essence of
education is being missed. Reality and national results speak for themselves. What
are we producing in society today? We are in effect only producing humanbeings
who are workers and not free thinkers. Human beings who do not question, reason
and think for themselves. This is where education has lead humanity. Is this an aid to
life or a long term obstacle that is too far gone to fix in the later stages.
Many parents see this but are also trapped by fear and economics. Rather than
question, too many offload the children in these harsh environments so that they can

Nursing Budgeting Process Paper
Budgeting is an important managerial process to plan and control the finances of a
unit. There are multiple factors that impact the nurse budgeting process and each
organization has its own approach in the budgeting process. The nursing leader has
the fiscal responsibility to balance the long term fiscal needs of the organization with
the patients short term health care needs .The final budget is usually the result of a
compromise of these factors that affect the organization. s The purpose of this paper
is to discuss nursing budget in the context of health care nursing leadership. Question

The internal factors are those that impact the provision of health care on a daily
basis (Finkler et al., 2007). These factors are health care staffing, wages for regular
and temporary health care providers, medical equipment, office supplies and repair
and maintenance (Gallagher Hodge, 2012). These factors fall under the umbrella of
the operating budget. According to Dunham Taylor Pinczuk (2015), the operating
budget cover the day to day cost of the unit, and represents best guess of costs over
an incoming period (Dunham Taylor Pinczuk, 2015). Acording to Finkler, Kovner
and Jones (2007), the largest element of nursing operating budget is usually health
care staffing. The authors added that nursing personnel costs dominate largely
because the clinical care provided by nurses is essential to the process of providing
health care services (Finkler, et al., 2007). Health care staffing budget is prioritized
according to the immediate staffing need in the nursing unit. High acuity levels often
require an increase in the utilization of licensed nursing personnel , which relates to
increased salary expenditures. For example, the intensive care unit will generally
require a higher staff to patient ratio than a regular nursing floor and will incur a
much larger nursing expense than the regular

Diligence? Before I can accurately outline whether or not the companies I interviewed
understood the concept of due diligence, it was important that I understood the
concept myself. The Occupational Health and Safety Legislation website defines due
diligence as the level of judgement, care, prudence, determination, and activity that a
person would reasonably be expected to do under particular circumstances. Simply
put it is the requirement that all employers take the possible reasonable precautions
to avoid injuries and illnesses in the workplace. There are several ways that an...

The first organization that I had interviewed was a large manufacturing company
(Company 1). The company is proud of the strong commitment that they have to
promoting health and safety in the workplace, and the prevention of injury and
illness. In the company the Human Resources and management are responsible for
establishing and maintaining health and safety programs, and supervisors are
responsible for ensuring that the employees are complying with the safe work
procedures that have been put in place. Multiple times a year the company revises
and updates the Occupational Health and Safety program. Records are also kept on
each employee when they not only receive training, but when they violate a safety
procedure. In these cases the necessary disciplinary action is taken. The other large
company (Company 2) that I interviewed proved to be very similar in their
commitment to providing a safe and healthy workplace for their employees, even
though they are in a different sector in this case retail. Though vastly different in the
types of services provided, they shared a common promise on ensuring due diligence.
As it is a relatively large retail outlet, they have a Health and Safety Committee
including one manager, and 5 workers. The health and safety committee take monthly
walks through the store to ensure that should anything be unsafe, it can be addressed.

Florida Bay Essay
Florida Bay
Dear Jenny Staletovich,
Your article on the Miami Herald website called Will Florida Bay survive the
summer? opened my eyes as to what is going on in the Florida Bay and has
inspired me to bring awareness to the sea grass die off during my research trip to
the Florida Bay. This week, I did my own research to measure the salinity of the Bay
and the water temperature to compare the results to the last sea grass die off which
occurred in the early 1990s. I have discovered that the temperature of the bay in the
summer of 2015 compared to the temperature in the summer of 1990 increased
astronomically. In fact, the temperature was 93 degrees when I made my
measurements and just to confirm my measurements I sent emails to researchers ...

Jerry Sandusky s Case Analysis
There is criminal liability for Jerry Sandusky because under Pennsylvania law, he lied
about his relationships with the young victims of the case. Under Pennsylvania law,
as in other jurisdictions, perjury refers to knowingly lying while under oath.
Obstruction of justice describes interference with the administration of justice, such
as by concealing evidence or delaying or frustrating a criminal investigation
(McCann). Sandusky committed perjury and obstruction of justice because he abused
his position as assistant coach, therefore he should have been charge of the crimes.
During the time he was an assistant coach and his retirement, he had contact with
the young victims who were a part of the program that he helped create for children
in need. Some victims such as victim 1 stayed at his house and Sandusky called him
out class for private wrestling sessions, which looked very odd to the wrestling coach.
Joseph Miller testi ed that he was head wrestling coach for the elementary
wrestling program for that school district. He knew Victim 1, who had wrestled for
him. Miller corroborated that one evening in 2006 or 2007, he returned to the high
school to retrieve something he had forgotten. He saw a light on in the weight room
which should have been turned off and when he went in, he discovered Victim 1
and Sandusky, lying on their sides, in physical contact, face to face on a mat. He
said both Victim 1 and Sandusky were surprised to see him enter the room. He recalls

Ruby The Rain
What are you doing? What are you doing? WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?!
(Bergin 209). The world is in shambles. The human race as we know it is in danger
of extinction. All that is certain is that it will rain. The pitter patter of precipitation on
a rooftop is enough to set tranquility into even the most anxious of people; it is a
soothing sound that many souls readily embrace. However, even the rainhas its dirty
little secrets. In The Rain by Virginia Bergin, fifteen year old Ruby Morris must face
an unrelenting terror from above. There is something in the rain resilient, sun shaped
bacteria that devour human flesh. After losing most of her friends and family to the

Ruby s first lesson in survival is a list consisting of seven fundamental rules of
survival ranging from DON T GO OUT IN THE RAIN (68) to DON T EAT
ANYTHING THAT S BEEN OUTSIDE (69). These guidelines are essential to
survival, but what seems to be the most effective is the rule simply labeled THINK
(70). This is put in place in order to ensure that Ruby takes into account the most
insignificant of details before she makes decisions. It is incorporated into her
routine and she commits herself to thinking before she acts a habit that saves her
life on multiple occasions. Ruby picks up on this change herself, stating late in
that book that she didn t just look and decide Hey, it s not raining let s go! The
newer version of the new [her] thought Nuh uh (329). On top of her cognitive
abilities, Ruby learned that even she cannot bend and bow to the needs of all.
When faced with obstacles such as infected citizens, Ruby realizes that the sole
sound way to safely surmount them is to protect her party. Such a scenario is
shown when she is promised water by a haphazard group stationed at a public pool.
Upon arrival, drunkards soak an innocent man using tainted water, infecting him. He
then falls directly into the pool, subsequently tainting the large body of water. In
order to avoid being infected, she gathers her party into a supply closet and locks the
door, ultimately condemning all on the opposite side of the barrier. Though
charitable, Ruby s compassion has a limit, and that limit is reached when the lives of
her party are endangered and her instincts take control. Hereafter, she uses her honed
survival skills to guide her team to their final destination with necessary
Character Foils In Romeo And Juliet
If you re trying to find success at love at first sight, you might have a greater
chance playing Russian roulette with an extra bullet locked, loaded and ready to
go. Love is a hardcore drug and even though it satisfies that empty feeling, it comes
along with a great deal of active side effects; some more extreme than others. The
Shakespeare written play, Romeo and Juliet, is about two loveblinded teens from the
feuding Montague and Capulet family, fighting for their star crossed love.
Shakespeare uses many sets of character foils to show the numerous amounts of
different people that are total opposites, but they still interact on a daily basis; He
also uses it to emphasize the feuding of the two family names. A foil is a character

Romeo and Mercutio are one of the most dynamic set of character foils in the play,
due to the extremeness of their contrasting characteristics and how they still
manage to become best friends. These powerful characters act as a catalyst on the
entire world renowned play. Above all, Romeo is a love driven, poetic and
passionate kid who sees through tunnel vision when it comes to finding his true
love. For one, Romeo was in love with a character names Rosaline from the
beginning of the play, although he s never met her. In Act 1 Scene 1, Romeo asks,
Is the day so young? after his cousin told him good morning, indicating that he s
feeling so bad he s surprised that the day is not yet over. The he says, Ay me! Sad
hours seem long , inviting Benvolio to ask him what is bother him. He goes on to
say how beautiful and how in love he is with Rosaline, and he states that he ll never

the environment and the Salespeople. There are two common restaurants at DAH

Deception in The Tempest Essay
The passage below is found in the opening act of one of Shakespeare s most
illusive plays of control and manipulation. The word deception is defined as the act
of misleading or to trick, cheat, lie, and mislead . From this definition, it is obvious
that deception is normally perceived to be evil and results in the harm of others
mentally and physically. It leads to broken hearts, untold truths, or even unpunished
murder. However, in Shakespeare s The Tempest, deception is used as a virtuousart to
manipulate an unjust situation and rectify it.

Although, the normally evil deception is used, Prospero uses it in such a way so that
no harm is brought to anyone, and all the characters are brought to their rightful
positions by the play s conclusion. Through his own works he changes the minds of
his enemies (Tillyard 120). All of the action develops in a world which defies
nature, so the events are more believable . The island is not only uncharted, it is one
on which anything can happen (Knox 128). In the words of Gonzalo:
All torment, trouble, wonder, and amazement Inhabits here. Some heavenly power
guide us Out of this fearful country! (Shakespeare 78)
Miranda had been bred up in the island with her father and a monster only: she did
not know, as others do, what sort of creatures were in a ship (Coleridge 109). In
fact, Miranda knew basically nothing about her past or her identity until the start of
the play. Her father has, in a way, been deceivingher throughout her entire life. Even
throughout the course of the play, Prospero is not completely open with his daughter.
Instead, he puts her to sleep for a period of time so that she does not interfere with
his plan. Through this deception her father was not trying to harm her in any way but
rather to protect her from the vicious truth.
The characters which were on the ship are now separated into various groups and
spread apart from one another across the island. The first group Prospero

Surprising Gang Myth
From my perspective, the most surprising gang myth was that gangs, drugs, and
violence were linked. I was under the impression that gangs made their income from
the sale and distribution of drugs to fund their activities. It was unique in that
Coughlin and Venkatesh (2003) actually stated that drugs were secondary to that of
identity, protection, and recreation (28). Though from just these two chapters, I can
see there is a pattern to why youth join gangs and the gangs desire for identity as a
primary goal. All of the offered criteria of identity, protection, and recreation signal to
me that of any troubled teen/youth trying to establish their way through not only a
changing environment of high school, but also a changing body of hormones. I was
curious in the details regarding to the fact that few gangs control distribution, in that
if not them then who actually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chapter directs this blame towards cartels and syndicates. My perspective was
that gangs were the predominant users and thus would want to ensure that they were
also the sellers. It goes on to state that even the once believed violence is often from
other conflicts not directly associated with drugs (29). Tita and his colleagues
document that most homicides with the involvement of drugs is in regards to
quantity/quality issues (30). Again, I would have considered that due to drug
withdrawals gang members would become quickly agitated and resort to violence
more often in relation to the transactions involved to support

Wealth Inequality In The Great Gatsby
During the 1920 s, when The Great Gatsby s setting took place, was a different
time. Where there were different views on certain subjects such as wealth.
Compared to today s society where history has changed people s opinions and views
on wealth. Not to mention, the responsibilities and social pressures of the wealthy
back in the 20 s and in our current society that impacts the perception of affluence.
There is also the wealthinequality that was in the 20 s and is still here to this day,
that influences the impact of wealth. In today s society, wealth is another word for
happiness. To be wealthy means to be able to do what you want, so that you can
achieve that happiness. It impacts society by making the people view wealth as an

because of how wealthy you are. Those who were wealthy knew the truth. Wealth
cannot get you the life you desire, only in some cases. To get what you want in life,
you have to do that yourself. You have to work hard to get what you want. In the
book, Gatsby worked his way to get wealthy and it ended up being the thing that
did not fulfill him. His wealth was not what he desired for his life. He perceived
wealth as a way to get what most say as the American dream. The perceptions of

should be fixed. People view wealth as something everyone should have, not just the 1

How Did Louis Brandeis Affect Society
Louis Brandeis Louis Brandeis was born in Louisville, Kentucky on November
13th, 1856. His parents were Bohemian Jews who sought refuge in the U.S after
the European revolutionary movements of 1848. Brandeis started attending the
Harvard Law School without a formal college education at the age of eighteen.
Brandies went on to achieve one of the most outstanding records in Harvard
history, and was also granted a bachelors of law degree before the required age of
twenty one. Brandeis began a legal partnership with a former classmate, Samuel
Warren in 1879. Together they wrote The Right to Privacy which was published in
the Harvard Law Review, and remains to be one of the most famous law articles in
history. The Right to Privacy law review... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starting in the 1890 s Brandeis began to question his own views on the industrial
outlook of America, he started noticing the increase in large firms who were starting
to dominate industries entirely. He started becoming more compassionate to manual
labor workers who were up against larger organizations that were beginning to
dominate the economic system. Brandeis was observing these monopolies and the
dangers that come with the economic power, and how it could have a negative
effect on Americans life and privacy within society. The importance of competition
and a free society that has options and is not dominated by only a few large
companies whom control the American society was one of Brandeis concerns when
addressing the dangers of monopolies. Brandeis believed that with the overpowering
expansion of large companies came less innovation because their businesses would
have maximum security with no competition to drive them towards new ideas.
During this time President Theodor Roosevelt was also questioning the large influx
of corporate monopolies, but only saw the need to regulate instead of limiting the
growth as Brandeis saw

IVR Release for the month of October. At 10:00am MT, traffic was rerouted to the
Salt Lake City data center and changes were made to the Expressline Card Activation
application in Houston. At 2:00pm MT, issues were identified with the deployment in
Houston however, testing proved to be successful and there did not appear to be any
impact to the production environment. Therefore, at 5:30pm MT, the decision was

The test cards provided by the Bankcard department were not configured to ensure
testing produced the correct results. This is due to a lack of specificity on how the
cards were to be configured.
To remediate these issues, the Genesys IVR team has requested additional access to
the test environment from the Bankcard department. This will allow the team to
define parameters in the environment so they can test very specific scenarios with the
accounts they are pulling in. Additionally, they are working very closely with
Bankcard in the production environment to ensure advanced notice is given on future
releases so Bankcard can provide test cards well in advance, with the specific
requirements given in the initial request.
Though issues had been identified with the deployment in Houston, testing did not
reveal any problems in the production environment. Developers ran through a number
of scenarios trying any find potential issues that could impact customers but found
none. It was also noted that a number of changes were being made to the Genesys

Chemoprevention Essay
Chemoprevention is assigned by either selecting prevention of esophageal acid
exposure using proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy or modulation of pro
inflammatory mechanisms45. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used generally in
the handling of acid related disorders. They function by permanently obstructing the
hydrogen/potassium adenosine triphosphatase enzyme system (the H+/K+ ATPase,
or, more frequently, the gastric proton pump) of the gastric parietal cells. The proton
pump is the terminal stage in gastric acidsecretion and is directly accountable for
secreting H+ ions into the gastric lumen, leading the pump to be an excellent target
for preventing acid secretion. Targeting the terminal step in acid production, as well
as the irreversible nature of the inhibition, results in a class of drugs that are
considerably more efficient than H2... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This class of medication has been available for commercial use for almost 25 years,
and it has exceeded the use of histamine 2 receptor antagonists (H2RA) for patients
with moderate to severe gastric acid related diseases as well as for prophylaxis of
upper gastrointestinal (GI) injury (with nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs). PPI
therapy can lead to partial regression of intestinal metaplasia (IM) in BE patients, as
demonstrated by the development of macroscopic islands of squamous epithelium
and the accompanying shortening of columnar epithelium, although inconsistently46,

nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs use, treatment of Helicobacter pylori, and
erosive esophagitis. Despite a substantial decrease in the risk of neoplastic
progression in patients with BE on prolonged PPI use, total eradication of BE with
medical therapy alone is rarely, if ever,
How Does Social Media Influence Activism
Social Media s Influence on Activism Starting in mid July a trend began to take

The Significance Of Nature In William Wordsworth By...
As time passes it is said that the human race becomes less aware of nature around
them and more consumed with the things produced by man. The romantic poet
William Wordsworth saw the cultural decline and as the literary critic Harold Bloom
stated, The fear of mortality haunts much of Wordsworth s best poetry, especially in
regard to the premature mortality of the imagination and the loss of creative joy. This
statement greatly reflects the views of Wordsworth, whose poetry conveys the
warning of a man asking those enveloped in the worldto step back and recognize the
beauty and miracles of nature. A few of the texts in which this warning of
Wordsworth s is very potent include Tinturn Abbey, The Prelude
, The World Is Too
Much With Us, and London, 1802. These works all include a reference to the fall
or the cultural decline of the people in the world, especially those he sees around
himself. The amazing gift of nature is the blessing Wordsworth sees and wishes for
those around him to recognize the issue is often the plain, everyday miracles of the
world are overlooked because of the material things human possess more and more
of each day. The statement made by Bloom is a very accurate one as Wordsworth
does wish to push the world back into a respect for the beauty and blessing of nature.
The application of Wordsworth s call back to nature is seen in his poem Tinturn
Abbey, as he recalls the happiness brought to him in his youth by the peace and
beauty of the area.

Throughout my life and experiences at school we are always told to stand up and

job done. I have also been told that when it comes to working in a group that does not
participate, not to take complete control, however that is easier said than done when
in certain situations.
One of my biggest challenges throughout working in groups has been during my time

the year. We were responsible for the programs, gifts, requesting food, and meeting

Since our group only had three members that would participate, it was very hard to
get things done. At the time, I had just decided to take on a lot of the responsibility
because I knew I would do the best I could and I could rely on myself. When it
came closer to graduation date, I realized I really needed to have some of the
members help out a little more. When we had meetings I would ask if anyone
could pick up the programs, or help with our proposal and I would get little to no
response. So I just decided to take on the tasks my group would not help me do.
Naturally, I am an introvert and before this experience I did not think I was very
good at talking to people. After having to talk to several people in charge of
different aspects of our event, I found that it was not as scary and hard as I
thought, building my confidence. I want whatever I am working on to best the
best I can make it and that is why I am very thankful for that situation. It helped me
discover that when I need to, I can be a great leader that gets the job done even if I
have to do it by myself and that some people will not always help me. However,
after this experience I know to try harder to get the members of the group to help
out. It also helped me realize that good leaders also have to be the follower
sometimes. I assessed my group situation and realized that I had to be the leader this
time, and maybe that is why some of the others took more of a quieter
Mark As 3.1
AS 3.1 Analyse the Meanings in a Sacred Text within a Religious Tradition
The biblical book I will be analysing is the Gospel of Mark. This is one of the four
gospels, each with a different author who are addressing different aspects of Jesus.
All believe that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of God. In the Gospel of Mark we
have to address, through interpretation methods, such as historical/ critical analysis
and liberation theology, the revelation of the mind and heart of Jesus and his message.
This is done by Mark through the use of stories eg, Jairus daughter (Mark 5: 21 43),
parables, such as The Parable of the Sower, (Mark 4:1 20) and miracles, such as
Jesus healing the blind man Bartimaeus (Mark 8:22 25). These examples point to the
power of God within Jesus.
Part of this process is that we have to interpret different groups in the stories such
as the Pharisees, Sadducees and their understanding of God. These groups exist in
demonstrating and developing their idea of God which is in stark contrast to Jesus.
Another theme is that of the place the disciples take place in their accompanying
Jesus. What we see in Mark is that there is confusion in the minds of the disciples
they never quite seem to understand Jesus; the messianic secret is an ongoing
revelation in Mark of who Jesus really is. This revelation of Jesus is revealed
through his acts of compassion, healing and forgiveness.
The Gospel to Mark is the first written of the gospels around 65 70AD. It

buildings was due to a terrible accident (Sayre 1076). On October 18, 1871,
Chicago s business district was in flames due to a fire that started in a cow barn.
This fire helped to provide an economic boost in the city. As the citylooked for
architectural innovation, there were several factors that contributed to what is known
as the ChicagoSchool of Architecture. First, there was a growing belief that since land
was expensive in the downtown area, buildings should be constructed higher (Sayre
1076). Thanks to the invention of metal frame construction, buildings were able to

in July of 2001, was looking at the possibility of taking a position in Nike for her

In order to be more confident in her forecast, she asked her assistant to estimate Nike
s cost of capital.
Nike s Estimated Cost of Capital
Ms. Ford s assistant estimated Nike s cost of capital to be 8.4%. This is based on
four main assumptions. First, a single cost of capital for all of Nike s various
business segments will be sufficient, rather than using a business segment specific
cost of capital. Seeing as footwear made up 62% of revenues, and that all the
significant segments were sport related, the assistant felt that the risk factors were
similar for all of the business segments. Next, since Nike was funded through both
debt and equity, the WACC was used to calculate the cost of capital. Third, the cost
of debt was estimated to be 4.3%. This was calculated by taking the interest expense
for the entire year of 2001 and dividing it by Nike s average debt balance. Tax
adjusted, the cost of debt is 2.7%; this uses a tax rate of 38% based on a state tax of
3% and the U.S. statutory tax rate. Lastly, the CAPM was used to estimate the cost
of equity. Using the current yield of the 20 year Treasury bond as the risk free rate,
the compound average premium of the market over Treasury bonds as the risk
premium, and the average of Nike s betas from 1996 to 2000 as the beta, Nike s cost
of equity was estimated to be 10.5%.

Nelson Mandela Biography
Early Life
Many democrats have achieved great accomplishments in their time as presidents,
kings, prime minister, but none faced consequences for their actions. That is, except
for Nelson Mandela, who was sent to jail just for asking that his rights be given to
him and his fellow blacks. He spent 27 years doing hard labor but still continued to
fight for his rights until he became the president of South Africa. Recently, however,
he passed away at the age of ninety five. This is just a mere reason why I chose him
and also to show the influence of paper, ink and some unjust facts in the world.
On the 18th of July, 1918, Rolihlahla Mandela, later on called Nelson, was born
into the Madiba clan in the village of Mveso in Umtata, which was, at that time, in
the province of cape South Africa. His early life was devoted to the rituals and beliefs
of his clan but also he worked as a cattle boy.
He usually spent his days out with the other kids playing. Both of his parents were
illiterate, but his mother was religious. Therefore, at the age of seven, his mother
had sent him to a Methodist school. The name Nelson was the name given to him
by his English teacher. Later on, his father settled in with him and his sisters in the
village of Qunu, until his father died in 1930 because of incorrect diagnoses of
potential lung diseases. After that tragedy, his mother took him to Mqhekezweni
where his mother left him for a couple of years with a chieftain who treated him like

The Fundamental Techniques Of Organic Chemistry Lab
Abstract: One mixture of two unknown liquid compounds and one mixture of two
unknown solid compounds were separated, isolated, purified, and characterized by
boiling point. Two liquid unknowns were separated, isolated, and purified via
simple distillation. Then, the process of an acid base extraction and washing were
used to separate two unknown compounds into two crude compounds: an organic
acid and a neutral organic compound. Each crude compound was purified by
recrystallization, resulting in a carboxylic acid (RCO2H) and a pure organic
compound (RZ). The resulting mass of the pure carboxylic acid was 1.688g with a
percent recovery of 31.80%, the boiling range was 244 245 В°C, and its density was
2.0879g/mL. The resulting mass of the pure organic solid was 2.4902g with a percent
recovery of 46.91%, the boiling range was 52.0 53.4В°C, and its density was 1.5956 g
/mL. Introduction: The fundamental techniques of organic chemistry lab, commonly
known as SIPCAn, include separation, isolation, purification, characterization, and

chemistry laboratory. Mastering these techniques are necessary in order to perform
more complicated experiments and to carry out organic reactions and synthesis. The

Jorge Luis Borges
The Art of Being Ambiguous In his collection of short stories, Ficciones, Jorge Luis
Borges uses dreams, imagination and fantasy to establish ambiguity in his stories.
With the use of juxtaposition and symbols, Borges blends a realm of dreams and
imagination into the individual s everyday worldly experiences. Through these
devices, Borges commonly blurs the line between aspects of reality for his characters
versus the constructs of his or her mind. By combining the real with the fictitious,
Borges incorporates ambiguity into his stories and introduces his readers to new
perspectives of world around them. In The South, Borges establishes ambiguity by
dropping subtle textual hints that would ultimately allow for the reader to attain...

By juxtaposing Hladik s reality and the play he has constructed in his mind,
Borges introduces the overarching idea of how the mind constitutes for a different
realm in which the dreamers and thinkers can shape, share, and confide in. This
idea is again prominent when the bullet that is intended to kill Hladik on the day
of his execution stops seconds before taking him. Borges states that, in Hladik s
mind a year would pass between the order of the fire and the discharge of the rifle
(162) as a result of God. If taken at face value, God has intervened as promised in
Hladik s dream. If the reader was to interpret this story in this manner, it is clear
that events from Hladik s dream transform and impact his reality. In which case,
Borges clouds the distinction between Hladik s reality and dreams. However,
oddly enough, when Hladik requests the assistance of God in a dream the night
before, the librarian states I myself have gone blind searching for it [God] (161),
indicating that presence of God is questionable at most. If God is not yet found, He
could not have given Hladik the extra year. By incorporating these subtle hints,
Borges also allows the reader to interpret that it was solely Hladik s perception of
time, rather than the intervention of God, that allowed him another

Tony Harrison s V? Tony Harrison by employing different voices and different
linguistic styles he achieves to demonstrate the antithetic distinctions of personas
belonging to different social and educational backgrounds. The shifts in linguistic
styles in the poem, between his voice as a poet and to the skinhead clearly illustrate
two characters that are completely contradictive. The poet is educated using elevated
language, the skinhead, not at all, using slang. The poet is refined, sophisticated,

Harrison s social sensitivities and anxieties are clearly depicted in V . V is multi
signifier of conflicts, controversies, clashes.( Communist v. Fascist) But also V can
be a reference to the second world war; it stands as another versus against war and
all the pain that it cost. Surely the poet condemns all these contributors of the war
including skinheads. We must not ignore the skinhead as representative figures of
neo Nazis and fascism. Skinheads became associated, in the public mind, with neo
Fascist political parties such as the National Front and with inter racial violence. As
this suggests, they articulated a sense of traditional stable identities coming under
threat. Most importantly, perhaps, their instantly recognizable uniform of shaven
heads, Doc Marten boots, military surplus trousers or jeans, bomber jackets and
tattoos expressed a yearning for solidarity and even community. This yearning
came at the end of a decade whose political and popular emphasis had been on what
Raymond Williams, in The Long Revolution, had dismissed as the supposed new
phenomenon of classlessness .(Kennedy 175) Based on the above descriptions we
can clearly understand what purpose the conflict, poet skinhead serves. If we
imagine the graveyard as a battle yard and the skinhead as a soldier, then we can get
another portray of the skinhead as a powerful,
Essay about The Revolutions of 1848
The revolution of 1848 encompassed many of the European countries. The
revolutions sweeping across Europe included Germany, Italy, and France,
excluding Russia and England. Many historians refer to the year of 1848 as, The
Year of Revolutions , because of how the revolts spread throughout Europe. The
question is which political groups were the influence behind this revolution and
what were the causes of the revolution. The revolution united many diverse groups
of people; they were able to put aside their differences to move toward the greater
good of the society as a whole. Perhaps, the revolution was about basic human

The industrious response to the growth of the population was parallel to the new
population size. More people from rural areas were found moving to the cities to
find work in the new industries that were created. The major problem that led up to
the revolution was the tension that was forming between the classes. The working
class had major issues dealing with survival in poverty. There were three main
causes of the outbreak of the revolution in Germany such as: the down spiral of the
business cycle, business failure and loss of job, and the harvest failures throughout
Europe. The people sought after change but in the end they did not fully reach their
goal. ( The revolutions of 1848: in Germany, Italy, and France ) In Italy, nationalism
began to form, the conservative leaders felt threatened by the ideas of the
nationalist as well as liberalist because the ideas were very radical. The pervasive
crop failures for two consecutive seasons were part of the reason for the quick
uprising. The working class as in Germany took the brunt of the problems that the
loss of crops had on Italy, because they were those, directly linked to their ability to
buy food . ( The Revolution of 1848 ). Giuseppe Mazzini was a key supporter of
unifying the Italian state. Mazzini as well as the pope s support was required to
raise an upheaval for a revolution. The Italian nationalist needed three key

The Importance Of Folk And Popular Culture
For one of my cultural visits I went to a Mexican restaurant, El Molcajete, in Geneva,
IL. In this restaurant I observed elements of folk and popular culture which included
the music that was playing there, which was mariachi band music which made the
place feel more authentic to Mexico. The music from the mariachi band was a piece
of their folk culture they had, because they used violins, trumpets, guitarron a spanish
guitar used in most Spanish music, and a vihuela a five stringed guitar with a high
pitch. Some of the popular culturethat was there was the outfits the servers were
wearing which was a plain old t shirt and some black pants, and it was more popular
culture because nowadays servers wear a shirt and pants that match what the theme or
idea of the restaurant is. I categorized the mariachi band as part of the folk culture
because the instruments that they were using were traditional instruments used in
Mexico to produce the Spanish sound. The servers outfits I categorized as popular
culture because of the fact that servers in many restaurants nowadays wear the same
clothing that is casual, making it an element of popular culture. In my opinion I think
that the folk elements are seen around but not practiced in everything that is in the
restaurant, due to the exposure to the popular culture of our world. In the restaurant,
some tools or utensils used in the restaurant include a basket that holds tortillas
warm, but does not make them soggy or cold because of a
Impact Of Spice Trade
Spice Trade had a significant economic and cultural impact on the world. At around
3000BC, the Arabs traded spices and herbs among early civilizations. Then as trade
began to develop, Europeans started to gain control of the global commerce. Venice
was one of the most successful, efficient Italian cities that prospered through tradeand
became a formidable trading point because of its location. It became a monopoly of
spicetrade for a period of time. Subsequently, European royalty made a key decision
to change the balance of trade by initiating spice hunting missions. The spice trade
influenced the economies of Portugal, Holland, Italy, India, South East Asia, and
England, and was also the reason that America was discovered. It had a broad... Show

The history of humankind, its civilizations and the culture are all linked with the
development of the trading industry. Throughout Asia, many people came together
to help the exchange of ideas, art, lifestyles and goods. Religion was transferred
through countries because of the Spice Trade. The popularity of Buddhism and
Hinduism benefited the new markets. Buddhism traveled alongside the maritime
trade, promoting missionaries, coinage, art and literacy. Islam spread throughout
the East in the 10th century where the Muslim merchants played a crucial part in
the trade. Christianity spread in the East where Islam and Christianity were they
became the dominant religions. Many other customs were shared in Southeast
Asia such as Languages. The Portuguese language became very important for
trading. For example, there are still visible impacts of the Portuguese in countries
like Macau. European people started to interact with Indians people and learnt
many valuable culinary skills such as adding spices into their cooking. The
Portuguese also introduced vinegar to India. Many Europeans could not afford
peppercorns or any spices. Other used pepper for special occasions, such as
weddings. In richer homes, the spice cabinet was kept locked (Spice it up, 2). This
clearly shows that many Europeans started to use spices, which is a local cultural
impact on the spice trades. The population started to increase in cities, as markets and
empires were constructed, which resulted in bringing in great wealth to these cities.
Cultural anthropology and economics are linked providing a clearer understanding of

Comparison Of Roman Fever And The Story Of An Hour
Edith Wharton s Roman Fever and Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour are the
result of two realistic writers wishing to change the perspectives of how women
should be viewed and treated. In The Story of an Hour, Chopin writes about Mrs.
Mallard who is a woman desperate for her own thoughts and identity, at the time
this concept was untraditional and not accepted. Like Chopin, in Roman Fever
Wharton calls emphasis to the hidden secrets and feelings held by women at the
time. In her writing, Chopin uses various literary devices to play an important role
in conveying her message, these devices are also used by Wharton in Roman
Fever. Irony is a predominant literary device used in both of these works, for
example when Chopin states When the doctors came they said she had died of
heart disease of joy that kills (1611). This is ironic because the reader knows she
didn t die of joy, but rather from seeing the glimpse of her husband and knowing
she had lost the freedom she so desired. The first sign of irony Wharton uses is in
the title, Roman Fever, which is an old name for malaria. However, that s only the
surface meaning as the deeper meaning symbolizes Mrs. Slade s disease like
jealousy she has hidden for years over Mrs. Ansley. Both Edith Wharton and Kate
Chopin were very influential authors of the time and brought out suppressed issues in
their works to be acknowledged and challenged by society. 2.Identify the protagonist

Rafael Trujillo, a Dominican dictator, developed a harsh reputation as being one of
the most violent and domineering leaders of South America in his thirty one years of
power. In The Time of the Butterflies, Julia Alvarez provides insight into the effects
of Trujillo s infamy by sharing the stories of three Dominican sisters and their
struggles to gain independence and speak their truth. The Dominican American
author dramatizes the lives of the Mirabal sisters, three historical women who were
assassinated in 1961, for their involvement in the anti Trujillo movement. Roberto
Gonzalez Echevarria, a Cuban critic of Latin American literature, provides a bias
insight with regards to the novel.
This critique written by Roberto Gonzalez Echevarria of In the Time of the
Butterflies focuses mainly on the political facts that are not apparent in the novel. He
states that Alvarez makes her novel appear blurry, not making it a serious historical
fiction. However, the critical commentary that Echevarria made would not necessarily
apply to the film due to the fact that Alvarez s intentions are to initially expose
readers to life in the Dominican Republic under the control of Trujillo, rather than
have it be a serious historical fictional novel with facts and real life events. In fact,
the film focused more on the historical aspect of this time period unlike Alvarez s
novel. It provided slow motion slide shows of Trujillo s
Sexual Assault In Australia
This essay investigates whether sexual assault is an increasing problem for the young
people of Australia and whether sexual assault is being taught in schools around
Australia. This essay will also be explaining how the definition of sexual assault has
changed.
Sexual assault is any type of sexual contact or behaviour that occurs without the
explicit consent of the recipient. Falling under the definition of sexual assault are
sexual activities as forced sexual intercourse, forcible sodomy, child molestation,
incest, fondling, and attempted rape. (Unknown, 2016)
Sexual assault is seen as a serious criminal act, impacting the lives of many
Australians almost every single every day, which most we don t hear about. Only

At a young age, such as ages 3 5, children are being taught about their feelings and
how to control them, exploring the concepts of safe and unsafe feelings and finding
early warning signs of abusive behaviour. They are briefly taught about their identity,
what a fair and unfair relationships is and how trust works. In the abuse segment,
they are taught privacy and the privacy of their body parts, where it s okay to be
touched and recognising abuse. By the time these children are in primary school they
are being taught about the concept of safely, they are reviewing early warning signs,
unsafe situations and understanding rights and responsibilities. One of the main
topics being taught is about the internet, mobile phones and media safety as that is
turning into a large problem for the young people of Australia. According to the Child
Protection Curriculum high schools are meant to be teaching students about
psychological pressure and manipulation, a matter of rights and responsibilities in
relationships and the power of relationships. They are also supposed to be teaching
them about identifying abuse and neglect, family violence, electronic media abuse
and protecting yourself and others. Which Victor Harbor High School, is yet to do,
as explained in my survey.
A University study found 20.6% of women and 10.5% of men reported non

7.5% of men reported penetrative childhood sexual abuse by the age 16 years.

Royal Shell Plc is chosen for this analysis because of its structured decision to

Facilities to capture and store CO2 should be a key part of the global solution. Shell
is focusing on projects so as to capture and safely store CO2 from a Canadian oil
sands facility which is expected to be finished by the end of 2015. There is also a
plan for carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at the Peterhead gas fired power
plant in the UK.
Shell strategizes on further substantial growth once Gorgon, Prelude and other
planned projects are on stream. Shell chases the trading and arbitrage activities in the
global LNG portfolio, thereby adding more value to the bottom line in this important
growth business.
Resources plays, such as shale oil and gas, are a theoretically substantial opening
for the oil and gas industry globally. Shell looks to where value can be added in the
industry as a whole. The Shell resources plays are controlled by North American gas

Historical Significance Of Japanese History
History: Prehistoric Japan dates back to circa 10,000 BCE where the roots of
fishing and pottery making began; however, official Japanese history was first
recorded in 1st century BCE (Japan, 2016). In the 1930 s and 40 s, Japan became
more prominent in the global stage due to its participation in the attack on Pearl
Harbor (1941) and the U.S. coordinated Hiroshima bombings (1945) during the
World Wars (Japan, 2016). Since the 1950 s, Japan has been recognized as one of
the strongest economies in the developing and globalizing world. The fact that
Japan is an island has historically made it difficult to invade and has allowed the
country to withstand conflict between other countries. This has been demonstrated
in various imperialistic conflicts in certain parts of Asia. Places of Interest There
are many notable places in Japan such as Mt. Fuji, Nachi Falls, Sagano Bamboo
Forest, and Aogashima (Ma, 2015). These places have both historical significance
and natural beauty. Mt. Fuji is one of the tallest volcanoes in Japan (UNESCO,
2013). Life evolves around the dormant volcano, as its large presence has become
an icon and artistic muse for everyday life in Japan (Smithsonian Institution, 2013).
Nachi Falls is an orange, Buddhist and Shinto shrine. It is accompanied by a 133
meter waterfall that has contributed to religious development in the area for the past
centuries (Japan guid.com, 2016). Lastly, Aogashima is an active volcanic island
made up of a volcano
Juvenile Delinquency Is A Problem
Juvenile Delinquency When looking into the history of United States and elsewhere
juvenile delinquency is a problem and has been one for over a century. Like other
systems in place, the system involving juvenile delinquents has gone through many
stages. In the case of the juvenile delinquency, it has gone through four stages, with us
presently in the fourth. The causes behind juvenile delinquencyare still unknown
even today. Some blame it on the current culture, the over exposure to violence,
music and video games. Nevertheless, the true causes of it have yet to be
determined. The point of this paper is to examine the possible causes of juvenile
delinquency by looking at various fields and their reasoning behind delinquency. In
addition to understand the possible causes of juvenile delinquency I will be looking
at past and present assumptions including practices used currently and previously to
solve delinquency.
History
To gain an understanding of the current practices used to handle juvenile delinquents
you must first look at the history of it and understand where it was. The history of
juvenile delinquency is a little different from the criminal justice system history.
Originally, a juvenile that committed a crime went to jail with other male and female
criminals. At the beginning of the criminal justice system men, women, and juvenile
criminals were housed together. By putting juveniles with grown men incarcerated
for various reasons made them easy targets
Analysis Of Chopin s The Storm
Sexual Openness There have been several instances in history where a woman s
societal and personal existence revolved around her relationship to her husband. In
The Storm , Chopin discusses women s sexual openness in correlation with their
husbands and status in society. By contrasting martial structure, genderroles, and class
distinction, Chopin showcases the weight of societal pressures on women during the
19th century. One of the foundations for marital structures is the conflicting ideas of
monogamy and polygamy. Calixta represents polygamy while Bobinot represents
monogamy. While Calixta slept with Alcee, she felt a response in the depth of his
own sensuous nature that had never yet been reached (83). One could perceive that
Calixta, like other women during the time, was in a passionless marriage, and this was
the first time that she had experienced sexual ecstasy. To expend the point further,
Chopin s portrayal of Calixta draws attention to the ides that if a marriage is
passionless, maybe that is justification for polygamy especially is committed to
staying in the marriage. Calixta is dedicated to her husband, to the point of
remaining married to him, but she is open to having a sexual experience with
someone other than her husband. Once Alcee and Calixta had finished their affair,
the world became a place of gems (83).Chopin s metaphor suggests that polygamy
could be an option for individuals because it makes eases people stress especially
those concerning
Irony In The Censors By Luisa Juan
The suppression of people can create a layer of iron. In The Censors by Luisa
Valenzuela Juan leads himself down a path of irony. Juan receives a letter from a
friend who has relocated to Paris. He feels compelled to write back to her, but he
knows what he must write will be censored by the overbearing government. He knows
that they sniff, feel, and read inbetween the lines of each and every letter (174).
The government does not allow certain freedoms of speech and expression. Just
because his words would pass he is afraid the meaning behind the letter would not.
Juan decides he will write this forbidden letter. In order to do so he joins the Censor

How Did Samuel Morse Use Mass Communication
With just a few touches of a button the telegraph by Samuel Morse was the first of its
era to allow mass communication, quickly, and long distant. Changing the way the
world communicated and conducting business, the invention of the telegraph became
a significant part of American history. Prior to the invention of the telegraph, people
would write letters and rely on messengers to deliver their letters. Often letters would
be sent via boats across the ocean taking days to receive. Samuel Morse was quoted I
wish that in an instant I could communicate information, but three thousand miles are
not passed over in an instant and we must wait four long weeks before we can hear
from each other. (Streissguth, Thomas). Little did he know that his
Inside Out Is A Positive And Influential Movie

movie is a life lesson movie. It teaches you about significant emotions we all deal

These are the top five emotions we all probably have experienced, Joy, sadness,

For those that are retired or needing long term care in the US, the choices and
levels of care are numerous. However, the financial options are not. For care in the

The Importance Of Football In Friday Night Lights
Within sports, pressure is always there; you have to learn to deal with it. H. G.
Bissinger s book, Friday Night Lights, hones in on the football team the Permian
Panthers of Odessa. Through this focus on the team, one can see how football is an
integral part of the town thriving, maintaining its hopes and dreams. Despite the
racial and social divide within the community, those Friday night games become a
place where dreams may be made possible. In this way, sports, specifically football,
not only have an impact on the playersbut the community as well.
Within the novel, one can see how athletics, specifically football, holds more
importance than education for the town of Odessa. Because of this, players on the
team start to be treated differently, like men rather than teenagers. In which, players
become improperly prepared for the future and tend to only make it out of Odessa
through athletic ability alone. As for one of the players, he learns the hard way
the effects of such emphasis on athletics over education: I ve got no idea what I
want to do. I ve got no idea what school I want to go to. My SAT won t be worth a
shit. And no football school wants me. (Bissinger, Epilogue) This highlights sports in
society, as well as the four agents of socialization due to parental and educational
impacts. Because of this, players follow a path that has been shaped for them rather
than shaping their own path, causing future difficulties. For the case of Permian
Panther players,

The main purpose of fly fishing is to get the fish to bite and imitation of a bug.
There are many techniques for fly fishing, to fit the weather conditions such as the

fish purposely by using a type of bait such as worms, crickets, and even small fish.
Some of the techniques for bait fishing are bottom rigging, jugging, and the most
common is with a cork (RBFF). Trolling is the use of live bait and artificial lures
that are left in the water behind a slow moving boat. Netting is a setline that traps
the fish. Netting is mostly used in commercial fishing and catching baitfish. The
object of noodling is to catch only catfish, with out a rod and a line, and use only a

normally done in the colder states. When someone goes ice fishing they would need

  • 2. Women s Rites Of Passage Introduction Every culture in the world has rites of passage. Whether it be death and dying, birth or a transition from puberty to adulthood, every culture has certain rituals they use to christen these changes in social status within a society. A rite of passage is symbolic in how important a change is in the lives of the people who experience them. Status changes such as these are very important in the eyes of their culture and the ceremonies they produce help them retain stability while their society adjust to the changes that are occurring to the individuals. An interesting rite of passage that can be found in many cultures around the world is a young girls transition into womanhood. Two of the cultures that one examined this rite in were the Oglala Sioux of South Dakota, and the Tukuna of the Amazon. With the genocide of the Native Americans, many of the rituals and ceremonies they use have not been seen by outsiders. Information on any ceremony can be hard to find. Fortunately, the Oglala Sioux Wichasa Wakhan, holy man, Black Elk recorded these ceremonies before his death. In the book The Sacred Pipe, Black Elk discusses the seven sacred rites of the Oglala Sioux, one of which is Ishna Ta Awi Cha Lowan, preparing a young girlfor womanhood. (Black Elk, 1989). In this ceremony, the rite is performed just after the young girls first menstrual cycle. Black Elk states that this transition is very important to the Oglala Sioux, because this is when a young girl makes
  • 3. The Psychosocial Impact of Psoriasis, a Skin Condition Don t judge a book by its cover is one of the greatest known metaphorical phrases in human history. People constantly identify with and attempt to apply the concept in everyday life; yet our society has constructed a paradigm in which the perfection of your skin predetermines your social interactions in life. Likewise it is important to comprehend that it is not only on the side of society s judgements which determines your interactions, but it is also that of the lowered self esteem of the individual. To garner apposite knowledge, the task at hand required the interviewing of a person with a skin condition with the aim to internalise and reflect upon the biopsychosocial as well as cultural impacts of the illness. I was lucky enough to have the privilege of interviewing Jane Doe, a 20 year old white female with a history of psoriasissince age five. I was introduced to Jane through a close friend and entering into a professional relationship, she agreed to help me in my endeavour. Drawing on the principles of interviewing I ensured that it was a quiet, confidential and comfortable space1; thus it took place in her home. Jane has had a difficult beginning in life as psoriasis a common, chronic immune mediated skin disease currently has no cure and is characterised by scaly, reddened patches, papules, and plaques, which usually itch.2 A difficult medical history The difficulty to comprehend living with a disease characterised by such vivid visual aspects is beyond
  • 4. My Exercise At High School Athletes I have always been a very active person. I workout five times a week for an hour and half a day, as well as walking across campus two to three times a day. My kneecaps have gotten stronger and I created a workout routine that has worked for me. My weight and my blood pressure are normal. The reason I needed to create my workout is because I had been a three sport varsity athlete in high school but I suffered kneecap injuries, which forced me to stop playing. The goals for my workout were to build up my knees and thigh areas. I also wanted to build muscle mass in my upper body. I need to eat a good healthy balance of food and drink. I don t care much for chocolate or sweets and that helps me when it comes to choosing what to eat. However, I did come to realize that I need to eat more variety of fruits and vegetables. These goals were met throughout the course of the semester and I was able to succeed in my workout. I had to make two visits to the Human Performance Lab Center to get my results to my baseline my level of fitness. The first time I went to the Human Performance Lab Center it was with the whole class and the second time by myself. My results from both assessments were the exact same scores. The Center checked for: weight, height, Body Mass Index (BMI), body fat, Resting Blood Pressure (BP), Cardiorespiratory fitness, sit and reach, push ups, curl ups, shoulder flexibility, grip, posture, and wall sitting. For me the toughest test was the shoulder
  • 5. The Importance Of A Good Healthy Balanced Diet For the occupation of nursing it is important that nurses look after themselves both physically and mentally as the vocation is very demanding. Physically the career involves things like heavy lifting, long periods of walking/standing, long exhausting working hours, pushing/pulling and good eyesight and vision which is a very hard to maintain if you are getting little to no sleep. Mentally nursing requires you to be good and quick at making decisions, also you will be analysing the patients and looking at their care plans so it is important that the nurses are fully focused and able to concentrate. A good healthy balanced diet is essential and may include foods like: slow carbohydrates, protein, fats, minerals, vitamins, and water. Diet,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many causes that can interfere with the nurse being able to exercise regularly and eating a balanced diet. For example: nurses working late, doing double shifts, getting no breaks due to patients needing continuous care and nurses finishing late which results in no eating or binge eating and no exercise due to exhaustion. A lot of nurses are said to have a disturbed eating pattern and there are many risks associated when this occurs. When a nurse fails to adhere to a balanced diet and participate in regular exercise they become more fatigue, they lack in energy because they feel weak. They also have an increasingly high blood pressure and may even result to depression or anxiety due to the amount of stress they re under. A nurse can improve their lifestyle by sticking to a structured and well balanced diet. This includes eating fruit, vegetables, slow release carbohydrates, protein, fat and vitamins and minerals. It is also important that they try their best to eat something in between their long exhausting shifts in order to give them energy and keep them focused. Also in order to improve the lifestyle of a nurse they should try finding a hobby that interests them whether it is art, music or yoga. Classes such as yoga can release stress and provide the nurse with positivity energy and make them feel relaxed. Nurses are seen as role models for other humans as they should lead by example and stay away from the dangers that affect our bodies. This may include
  • 6. The Essence of Education 1. Write an essay on The Essence of Education . (1000 2000 words) I cannot write this essay without reference to study of my own experienced and my daughter s placed in the harsh environment of the government schooling system and its observations of the stark belief systems of the child to fit the system and not the system to fit the child with reference to the what education should be about. This means different things to different people. To some this means a teacher teaching and passive learning taking place, the outcome is expected at the end of each year that each child has to achieve the same outcome and is graded accordingly. The only problem with this is the removal of freedom and time constraints and a passive role for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this in mind, not only the environment plays the most important function in the restoration of natural learning, but so does the recognition of the individual. This not includes the didactic materials available for learning but also includes the nature and predisposition of the teacher. A teacher who is unkind is forever remembered and imprinted on the experience of the child, and so it is that no teacher should enter the profession without being thoroughly researched by the place of employment. I remember a few of these unkind souls and forever remember their manner and the effect it had on me. I simply did not wish to be there in the presence of these teachers, so went out of my way to stay away. The harsh reality was that I failed to prosper in these classes. One has to ask if this is right and if the essence of education is being missed. Reality and national results speak for themselves. What are we producing in society today? We are in effect only producing humanbeings who are workers and not free thinkers. Human beings who do not question, reason and think for themselves. This is where education has lead humanity. Is this an aid to life or a long term obstacle that is too far gone to fix in the later stages. Many parents see this but are also trapped by fear and economics. Rather than question, too many offload the children in these harsh environments so that they can see
  • 7. Nursing Budgeting Process Paper Budgeting is an important managerial process to plan and control the finances of a unit. There are multiple factors that impact the nurse budgeting process and each organization has its own approach in the budgeting process. The nursing leader has the fiscal responsibility to balance the long term fiscal needs of the organization with the patients short term health care needs .The final budget is usually the result of a compromise of these factors that affect the organization. s The purpose of this paper is to discuss nursing budget in the context of health care nursing leadership. Question 1. Describes the various internal and external forces that impact the development of the budget in a healthcare facility (like the hospital)?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The internal factors are those that impact the provision of health care on a daily basis (Finkler et al., 2007). These factors are health care staffing, wages for regular and temporary health care providers, medical equipment, office supplies and repair and maintenance (Gallagher Hodge, 2012). These factors fall under the umbrella of the operating budget. According to Dunham Taylor Pinczuk (2015), the operating budget cover the day to day cost of the unit, and represents best guess of costs over an incoming period (Dunham Taylor Pinczuk, 2015). Acording to Finkler, Kovner and Jones (2007), the largest element of nursing operating budget is usually health care staffing. The authors added that nursing personnel costs dominate largely because the clinical care provided by nurses is essential to the process of providing health care services (Finkler, et al., 2007). Health care staffing budget is prioritized according to the immediate staffing need in the nursing unit. High acuity levels often require an increase in the utilization of licensed nursing personnel , which relates to increased salary expenditures. For example, the intensive care unit will generally require a higher staff to patient ratio than a regular nursing floor and will incur a much larger nursing expense than the regular
  • 8. The Occupational Health And Safety Legislation Website... Company 1: Large Manufacturing Company 2: Large Retail Company 3: Small Retail Company 4: Small Retail Did the Companies Understand the Concept of Due Diligence? Before I can accurately outline whether or not the companies I interviewed understood the concept of due diligence, it was important that I understood the concept myself. The Occupational Health and Safety Legislation website defines due diligence as the level of judgement, care, prudence, determination, and activity that a person would reasonably be expected to do under particular circumstances. Simply put it is the requirement that all employers take the possible reasonable precautions to avoid injuries and illnesses in the workplace. There are several ways that an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first organization that I had interviewed was a large manufacturing company (Company 1). The company is proud of the strong commitment that they have to promoting health and safety in the workplace, and the prevention of injury and illness. In the company the Human Resources and management are responsible for establishing and maintaining health and safety programs, and supervisors are responsible for ensuring that the employees are complying with the safe work procedures that have been put in place. Multiple times a year the company revises and updates the Occupational Health and Safety program. Records are also kept on each employee when they not only receive training, but when they violate a safety procedure. In these cases the necessary disciplinary action is taken. The other large company (Company 2) that I interviewed proved to be very similar in their commitment to providing a safe and healthy workplace for their employees, even though they are in a different sector in this case retail. Though vastly different in the types of services provided, they shared a common promise on ensuring due diligence. As it is a relatively large retail outlet, they have a Health and Safety Committee including one manager, and 5 workers. The health and safety committee take monthly walks through the store to ensure that should anything be unsafe, it can be addressed. Additionally, each morning
  • 9. Florida Bay Essay Florida Bay Dear Jenny Staletovich, Your article on the Miami Herald website called Will Florida Bay survive the summer? opened my eyes as to what is going on in the Florida Bay and has inspired me to bring awareness to the sea grass die off during my research trip to the Florida Bay. This week, I did my own research to measure the salinity of the Bay and the water temperature to compare the results to the last sea grass die off which occurred in the early 1990s. I have discovered that the temperature of the bay in the summer of 2015 compared to the temperature in the summer of 1990 increased astronomically. In fact, the temperature was 93 degrees when I made my measurements and just to confirm my measurements I sent emails to researchers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. Jerry Sandusky s Case Analysis There is criminal liability for Jerry Sandusky because under Pennsylvania law, he lied about his relationships with the young victims of the case. Under Pennsylvania law, as in other jurisdictions, perjury refers to knowingly lying while under oath. Obstruction of justice describes interference with the administration of justice, such as by concealing evidence or delaying or frustrating a criminal investigation (McCann). Sandusky committed perjury and obstruction of justice because he abused his position as assistant coach, therefore he should have been charge of the crimes. During the time he was an assistant coach and his retirement, he had contact with the young victims who were a part of the program that he helped create for children in need. Some victims such as victim 1 stayed at his house and Sandusky called him out class for private wrestling sessions, which looked very odd to the wrestling coach. Joseph Miller testi ed that he was head wrestling coach for the elementary wrestling program for that school district. He knew Victim 1, who had wrestled for him. Miller corroborated that one evening in 2006 or 2007, he returned to the high school to retrieve something he had forgotten. He saw a light on in the weight room which should have been turned off and when he went in, he discovered Victim 1 and Sandusky, lying on their sides, in physical contact, face to face on a mat. He said both Victim 1 and Sandusky were surprised to see him enter the room. He recalls

  • 12. Ruby The Rain What are you doing? What are you doing? WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?! (Bergin 209). The world is in shambles. The human race as we know it is in danger of extinction. All that is certain is that it will rain. The pitter patter of precipitation on a rooftop is enough to set tranquility into even the most anxious of people; it is a soothing sound that many souls readily embrace. However, even the rainhas its dirty little secrets. In The Rain by Virginia Bergin, fifteen year old Ruby Morris must face an unrelenting terror from above. There is something in the rain resilient, sun shaped bacteria that devour human flesh. After losing most of her friends and family to the rain, Ruby makes it her goal to find her father no matter the cost. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ruby s first lesson in survival is a list consisting of seven fundamental rules of survival ranging from DON T GO OUT IN THE RAIN (68) to DON T EAT ANYTHING THAT S BEEN OUTSIDE (69). These guidelines are essential to survival, but what seems to be the most effective is the rule simply labeled THINK (70). This is put in place in order to ensure that Ruby takes into account the most insignificant of details before she makes decisions. It is incorporated into her routine and she commits herself to thinking before she acts a habit that saves her life on multiple occasions. Ruby picks up on this change herself, stating late in that book that she didn t just look and decide Hey, it s not raining let s go! The newer version of the new [her] thought Nuh uh (329). On top of her cognitive abilities, Ruby learned that even she cannot bend and bow to the needs of all. When faced with obstacles such as infected citizens, Ruby realizes that the sole sound way to safely surmount them is to protect her party. Such a scenario is shown when she is promised water by a haphazard group stationed at a public pool. Upon arrival, drunkards soak an innocent man using tainted water, infecting him. He then falls directly into the pool, subsequently tainting the large body of water. In order to avoid being infected, she gathers her party into a supply closet and locks the door, ultimately condemning all on the opposite side of the barrier. Though charitable, Ruby s compassion has a limit, and that limit is reached when the lives of her party are endangered and her instincts take control. Hereafter, she uses her honed survival skills to guide her team to their final destination with necessary
  • 13. Character Foils In Romeo And Juliet If you re trying to find success at love at first sight, you might have a greater chance playing Russian roulette with an extra bullet locked, loaded and ready to go. Love is a hardcore drug and even though it satisfies that empty feeling, it comes along with a great deal of active side effects; some more extreme than others. The Shakespeare written play, Romeo and Juliet, is about two loveblinded teens from the feuding Montague and Capulet family, fighting for their star crossed love. In fact, Miranda knew basically nothing about her past or her identity until the start of the play. Her father has, in a way, been deceivingher throughout her entire life. Even throughout the course of the play, Prospero is not completely open with his daughter. Instead, he puts her to sleep for a period of time so that she does not interfere with his plan. Through this deception her father was not trying to harm her in any way but rather to protect her from the vicious truth. The characters which were on the ship are now separated into various groups and spread apart from one another across the island. The first group Prospero

Chemoprevention Essay Chemoprevention is assigned by either selecting prevention of esophageal acid exposure using proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy or modulation of pro inflammatory mechanisms45. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used generally in the handling of acid related disorders. They function by permanently obstructing the hydrogen/potassium adenosine triphosphatase enzyme system (the H+/K+ ATPase, or, more frequently, the gastric proton pump) of the gastric parietal cells. The proton pump is the terminal stage in gastric acidsecretion and is directly accountable for secreting H+ ions into the gastric lumen, leading the pump to be an excellent target for preventing acid secretion. • 27. The Significance Of Nature In William Wordsworth By... As time passes it is said that the human race becomes less aware of nature around them and more consumed with the things produced by man. The romantic poet William Wordsworth saw the cultural decline and as the literary critic Harold Bloom stated, The fear of mortality haunts much of Wordsworth s best poetry, especially in regard to the premature mortality of the imagination and the loss of creative joy. This statement greatly reflects the views of Wordsworth, whose poetry conveys the warning of a man asking those enveloped in the worldto step back and recognize the beauty and miracles of nature. A few of the texts in which this warning of Wordsworth s is very potent include Tinturn Abbey, The Prelude , The World Is Too Much With Us, and London, 1802. These works all include a reference to the fall or the cultural decline of the people in the world, especially those he sees around himself. The amazing gift of nature is the blessing Wordsworth sees and wishes for those around him to recognize the issue is often the plain, everyday miracles of the world are overlooked because of the material things human possess more and more of each day. The statement made by Bloom is a very accurate one as Wordsworth does wish to push the world back into a respect for the beauty and blessing of nature. The application of Wordsworth s call back to nature is seen in his poem Tinturn Abbey, as he recalls the happiness brought to him in his youth by the peace and beauty of the area.

  • 30. Mark As 3.1 AS 3.1 Analyse the Meanings in a Sacred Text within a Religious Tradition The biblical book I will be analysing is the Gospel of Mark. This is one of the four gospels, each with a different author who are addressing different aspects of Jesus. All believe that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of God. In the Gospel of Mark we have to address, through interpretation methods, such as historical/ critical analysis and liberation theology, the revelation of the mind and heart of Jesus and his message. This is done by Mark through the use of stories eg, Jairus daughter (Mark 5: 21 43), parables, such as The Parable of the Sower, (Mark 4:1 20) and miracles, such as Jesus healing the blind man Bartimaeus (Mark 8:22 25). These examples point to the power of God within Jesus. Part of this process is that we have to interpret different groups in the stories such as the Pharisees, Sadducees and their understanding of God. These groups exist in demonstrating and developing their idea of God which is in stark contrast to Jesus. Another theme is that of the place the disciples take place in their accompanying Jesus. What we see in Mark is that there is confusion in the minds of the disciples they never quite seem to understand Jesus; the messianic secret is an ongoing revelation in Mark of who Jesus really is. This revelation of Jesus is revealed through his acts of compassion, healing and forgiveness. The Gospel to Mark is the first written of the gospels around 65 70AD. It

In order to be more confident in her forecast, she asked her assistant to estimate Nike s cost of capital. Nike s Estimated Cost of Capital Ms. Ford s assistant estimated Nike s cost of capital to be 8.4%. This is based on four main assumptions. First, a single cost of capital for all of Nike s various business segments will be sufficient, rather than using a business segment specific cost of capital. Seeing as footwear made up 62% of revenues, and that all the significant segments were sport related, the assistant felt that the risk factors were similar for all of the business segments. Next, since Nike was funded through both debt and equity, the WACC was used to calculate the cost of capital. Third, the cost of debt was estimated to be 4.3%. This was calculated by taking the interest expense for the entire year of 2001 and dividing it by Nike s average debt balance. The findings further confirm that SME suppliers do experience many barriers that they need to overcome for the successful implementation of e business technologies. However, there is a disagreement in importance between expected and actually encountered barriers. These findings make important theoretical and practical contributions. On the theory side, benefits and barriers of e business technologies adoption by SME suppliers are identified and comparisons between expected and experienced benefits/barriers are highlighted which has not been specifically addressed in the current e business literature. The findings thus help in reducing a gap in the literature. The research also indentifies a number of key benefits and barriers that owners and managers of SME suppliers should carefully reflect on when considering the adoption of e business technologies. The paper continues with a literature review of e business technologies adoption benefits and barriers by SMEs. This is followed by a research approach description. Next, results are reported and discussed. Finally, the paper concludes by highlighting contribution, limitations and, future research direction. 2. Nelson Mandela Biography Early Life Many democrats have achieved great accomplishments in their time as presidents, kings, prime minister, but none faced consequences for their actions. That is, except for Nelson Mandela, who was sent to jail just for asking that his rights be given to him and his fellow blacks. He spent 27 years doing hard labor but still continued to fight for his rights until he became the president of South Africa. Recently, however, he passed away at the age of ninety five. This is just a mere reason why I chose him and also to show the influence of paper, ink and some unjust facts in the world. On the 18th of July, 1918, Rolihlahla Mandela, later on called Nelson, was born into the Madiba clan in the village of Mveso in Umtata, which was, at that time, in the province of cape South Africa. His early life was devoted to the rituals and beliefs of his clan but also he worked as a cattle boy. He usually spent his days out with the other kids playing. Both of his parents were illiterate, but his mother was religious. Therefore, at the age of seven, his mother had sent him to a Methodist school. The name Nelson was the name given to him by his English teacher. Later on, his father settled in with him and his sisters in the village of Qunu, until his father died in 1930 because of incorrect diagnoses of potential lung diseases. After that tragedy, his mother took him to Mqhekezweni where his mother left him for a couple of years with a chieftain who treated him like his own and

The Fundamental Techniques Of Organic Chemistry Lab Abstract: One mixture of two unknown liquid compounds and one mixture of two unknown solid compounds were separated, isolated, purified, and characterized by boiling point. Two liquid unknowns were separated, isolated, and purified via simple distillation. Then, the process of an acid base extraction and washing were used to separate two unknown compounds into two crude compounds: an organic acid and a neutral organic compound. Each crude compound was purified by recrystallization, resulting in a carboxylic acid (RCO2H) and a pure organic compound (RZ). The resulting mass of the pure carboxylic acid was 1.688g with a percent recovery of 31.80%, the boiling range was 244 245 В°C, and its density was 2.0879g/mL. The resulting mass of the pure organic solid was 2.4902g with a percent recovery of 46.91%, the boiling range was 52.0 53.4В°C, and its density was 1.5956 g /mL. Introduction: The fundamental techniques of organic chemistry lab, commonly known as SIPCAn, include separation, isolation, purification, characterization, and analysis (1). With the use of juxtaposition and symbols, Borges blends a realm of dreams and imagination into the individual s everyday worldly experiences. Through these devices, Borges commonly blurs the line between aspects of reality for his characters versus the constructs of his or her mind. By combining the real with the fictitious, Borges incorporates ambiguity into his stories and introduces his readers to new perspectives of world around them. By juxtaposing Hladik s reality and the play he has constructed in his mind, Borges introduces the overarching idea of how the mind constitutes for a different realm in which the dreamers and thinkers can shape, share, and confide in. This idea is again prominent when the bullet that is intended to kill Hladik on the day of his execution stops seconds before taking him. Borges states that, in Hladik s mind a year would pass between the order of the fire and the discharge of the rifle (162) as a result of God. If taken at face value, God has intervened as promised in Hladik s dream. If the reader was to interpret this story in this manner, it is clear that events from Hladik s dream transform and impact his reality. In which case, Borges clouds the distinction between Hladik s reality and dreams. However, oddly enough, when Hladik requests the assistance of God in a dream the night before, the librarian states I myself have gone blind searching for it [God] (161), indicating that presence of God is questionable at most. If God is not yet found, He could not have given Hladik the extra year. By incorporating these subtle hints, Borges also allows the reader to interpret that it was solely Hladik s perception of time, rather than the intervention of God, that allowed him another

Tony Harrison by employing different voices and different linguistic styles he achieves to demonstrate the antithetic distinctions of personas belonging to different social and educational backgrounds. The shifts in linguistic styles in the poem, between his voice as a poet and to the skinhead clearly illustrate two characters that are completely contradictive. Surely the poet condemns all these contributors of the war including skinheads. We must not ignore the skinhead as representative figures of neo Nazis and fascism. Skinheads became associated, in the public mind, with neo Fascist political parties such as the National Front and with inter racial violence. As this suggests, they articulated a sense of traditional stable identities coming under threat. Most importantly, perhaps, their instantly recognizable uniform of shaven heads, Doc Marten boots, military surplus trousers or jeans, bomber jackets and tattoos expressed a yearning for solidarity and even community. This yearning came at the end of a decade whose political and popular emphasis had been on what Raymond Williams, in The Long Revolution, had dismissed as the supposed new phenomenon of classlessness .(Kennedy 175) Based on the above descriptions we can clearly understand what purpose the conflict, poet skinhead serves. The revolutions sweeping across Europe included Germany, Italy, and France, excluding Russia and England. Many historians refer to the year of 1848 as, The Year of Revolutions , because of how the revolts spread throughout Europe. The question is which political groups were the influence behind this revolution and what were the causes of the revolution. The revolution united many diverse groups of people; they were able to put aside their differences to move toward the greater good of the society as a whole. More people from rural areas were found moving to the cities to find work in the new industries that were created. The major problem that led up to the revolution was the tension that was forming between the classes. The working class had major issues dealing with survival in poverty. There were three main causes of the outbreak of the revolution in Germany such as: the down spiral of the business cycle, business failure and loss of job, and the harvest failures throughout Europe. The people sought after change but in the end they did not fully reach their goal. In this restaurant I observed elements of folk and popular culture which included the music that was playing there, which was mariachi band music which made the place feel more authentic to Mexico. The music from the mariachi band was a piece of their folk culture they had, because they used violins, trumpets, guitarron a spanish guitar used in most Spanish music, and a vihuela a five stringed guitar with a high pitch. Some of the popular culturethat was there was the outfits the servers were wearing which was a plain old t shirt and some black pants, and it was more popular culture because nowadays servers wear a shirt and pants that match what the theme or idea of the restaurant is. I categorized the mariachi band as part of the folk culture because the instruments that they were using were traditional instruments used in Mexico to produce the Spanish sound. The servers outfits I categorized as popular culture because of the fact that servers in many restaurants nowadays wear the same clothing that is casual, making it an element of popular culture. In my opinion I think that the folk elements are seen around but not practiced in everything that is in the restaurant, due to the exposure to the popular culture of our world. Comparison Of Roman Fever And The Story Of An Hour Edith Wharton s Roman Fever and Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour are the result of two realistic writers wishing to change the perspectives of how women should be viewed and treated. In The Story of an Hour, Chopin writes about Mrs. Mallard who is a woman desperate for her own thoughts and identity, at the time this concept was untraditional and not accepted. Like Chopin, in Roman Fever Wharton calls emphasis to the hidden secrets and feelings held by women at the time. In her writing, Chopin uses various literary devices to play an important role in conveying her message, these devices are also used by Wharton in Roman Fever. Irony is a predominant literary device used in both of these works, for example when Chopin states When the doctors came they said she had died of heart disease of joy that kills (1611). This is ironic because the reader knows she didn t die of joy, but rather from seeing the glimpse of her husband and knowing she had lost the freedom she so desired. The first sign of irony Wharton uses is in the title, Roman Fever, which is an old name for malaria. However, that s only the surface meaning as the deeper meaning symbolizes Mrs. Slade s disease like jealousy she has hidden for years over Mrs. Ansley. Both Edith Wharton and Kate Chopin were very influential authors of the time and brought out suppressed issues in their works to be acknowledged and challenged by society. 2.Identify the protagonist and antagonist in To Build a Fire and

This critique written by Roberto Gonzalez Echevarria of In the Time of the Butterflies focuses mainly on the political facts that are not apparent in the novel. He states that Alvarez makes her novel appear blurry, not making it a serious historical fiction. However, the critical commentary that Echevarria made would not necessarily apply to the film due to the fact that Alvarez s intentions are to initially expose readers to life in the Dominican Republic under the control of Trujillo, rather than have it be a serious historical fictional novel with facts and real life events. In fact, the film focused more on the historical aspect of this time period unlike Alvarez s novel. It provided slow motion slide shows of Trujillo s

Historical Significance Of Japanese History History: Prehistoric Japan dates back to circa 10,000 BCE where the roots of fishing and pottery making began; however, official Japanese history was first recorded in 1st century BCE (Japan, 2016). In the 1930 s and 40 s, Japan became more prominent in the global stage due to its participation in the attack on Pearl Harbor (1941) and the U.S. coordinated Hiroshima bombings (1945) during the World Wars (Japan, 2016). Since the 1950 s, Japan has been recognized as one of the strongest economies in the developing and globalizing world. The fact that Japan is an island has historically made it difficult to invade and has allowed the country to withstand conflict between other countries. This has been demonstrated in various imperialistic conflicts in certain parts of Asia. Places of Interest There are many notable places in Japan such as Mt. Fuji, Nachi Falls, Sagano Bamboo Forest, and Aogashima (Ma, 2015). These places have both historical significance and natural beauty. Mt. Fuji is one of the tallest volcanoes in Japan (UNESCO, 2013). Like other systems in place, the system involving juvenile delinquents has gone through many stages. In the case of the juvenile delinquency, it has gone through four stages, with us presently in the fourth. The causes behind juvenile delinquencyare still unknown even today. Some blame it on the current culture, the over exposure to violence, music and video games. Nevertheless, the true causes of it have yet to be determined. The point of this paper is to examine the possible causes of juvenile delinquency by looking at various fields and their reasoning behind delinquency. In addition to understand the possible causes of juvenile delinquency I will be looking at past and present assumptions including practices used currently and previously to solve delinquency. History To gain an understanding of the current practices used to handle juvenile delinquents you must first look at the history of it and understand where it was. In The Storm , Chopin discusses women s sexual openness in correlation with their husbands and status in society. By contrasting martial structure, genderroles, and class distinction, Chopin showcases the weight of societal pressures on women during the 19th century. One of the foundations for marital structures is the conflicting ideas of monogamy and polygamy. Calixta represents polygamy while Bobinot represents monogamy. While Calixta slept with Alcee, she felt a response in the depth of his own sensuous nature that had never yet been reached (83). One could perceive that Calixta, like other women during the time, was in a passionless marriage, and this was the first time that she had experienced sexual ecstasy. To expend the point further, Chopin s portrayal of Calixta draws attention to the ides that if a marriage is passionless, maybe that is justification for polygamy especially is committed to staying in the marriage. Calixta is dedicated to her husband, to the point of remaining married to him, but she is open to having a sexual experience with someone other than her husband. Once Alcee and Calixta had finished their affair, the world became a place of gems (83).Chopin s metaphor suggests that polygamy could be an option for individuals because it makes eases people stress especially those concerning
