To a certain extent I can relate to this thought because most of us will live life and not do
anything majorly important, but even the smallest things make a difference. For the main

The scene that I have chosen to apply my learning in this term to, as well as specifically analyze,
is the 2012 Universal and Working Title Films production of the movie musical Les
MisГ©rables, directed by Tom Hooper. This musical focuses on the lives of several characters
in France during the early 1800 s; Jean Valjean is an ex convict who breaks parole to start a new

Animal testing is used internationally to understand and create medicines and to test the safety of
products. Almost 20 million animals are experimented on and killed annually worldwide, an

Opdivo (nivolumab) has been expanded to include advanced non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC),
the agency said Wednesday in a news release.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States, having been diagnosed more
than 224,000 times and causing more than 159,000 deaths in 2014, the FDA said. NSCLC is the
most common type, affecting seven of eight people with lung cancer.
Opdivo inhibits a protein that prevents the immune system from attacking cancer cells, the agency
said. The drug is sanctioned for people who have been treated with platinum based chemotherapy.
Opdivo was clinically compared to another anti cancer drug, docetaxel, in a study involving more
than 270 people with NSCLC. People who received Opdivo lived an average of 3.2 months longer
than people given docetaxel, the FDA said.
The most common side effects of Opdivo are fatigue, shortness of breath, muscle and bone pain,
loss of appetite, cough, nausea and constipation. More severe adverse effects included immune
reactions involving healthy organs, including the lungs, colon, liver, kidneys and hormone
producing glands.
Opdivo was approved previously to treat advanced melanoma among people who don t respond to

scientific and social effects. There were many opposing ideas and concerns coming from different
perspectives such as those of expecting parents, genetic counselor, scientists and genetic disease

concepts from the arguments made on the show, many of which surprised me.
First I learned the possible risks of establishing a society of Designer babies . According to Oxford
English Dictionary, a designer baby is defined as a baby whose genetic make up has been selected
in order to eradicate a particular defect or to ensure that a particular gene is present (1). As

hypothetically capable of selecting favorable genetic traits to create a baby to the parents
preferences. Parents not only can avoid genetic abnormalities such as an extra chromosome
leading to Down syndrome, but they can also choose specific alleles for genetic enhancement.

The third question was regarding whether the student should remain in the general classroom; 41%
responded yes, 27% said it depended on certain factors, 26% said no, and 6% were unsure. The
fourth and final question was whether the learning disabled student in the general classroom
presented the teacher with more demands. Not surprising to me was the fact that 68% responded
yes, 25% responded no, and 7% were unsure.My personal interpretation of this survey in relation to
the mainstreaming situation is very direct. Many educators feel the learning disabled students are
different from the other students. They lack the skills to succeed, therefore the classroom needs to
be adjusted for them. Almost half of the educators felt the students could remain in the general
classroom, while about a quarter of them wanted the learning disabled removed and another quarter
would allow the student to remain if he met certain factors. Those teachers who did not want to
conform and allow the student to remain need to be presented with options for adapting their
methods of academic presentation, infiltration to peer discussion groups and evaluation procedures.

A 40 year old woman presents with fatigue. She has felt very run down for the past 3 months and
has had no interest in participating in her usual activities and sporting events. She has had sleeping
problems and low appetite. She is constantly feeling low and has frequent crying spells. Her
physical examination is normal and thyroid function is normal. She is diagnosed with major
depression and is referred for counseling and started on fluoxetine.
What is the mechanism of action of fluoxetine? Fluoxetine is an antidepressant belonging to the
selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class of drugs used mainly for the treatment of major
depression, obsessive compulsive, disorder, and panic disorder (Nordqvist, 2014, p. 1). SSRI work
by increasing the levels of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine in the brain. Serotonin is a
neurotransmitter that regulates several aspects of brain function such as mood, sleep, and emotion
(Mandal, 2014, p. 1). Fluoxetine works by blocking the absorption (reuptake) of serotonin, which
helps to regulate and stabilize mood. Since uptake is an important mechanism for removing
released neurotransmitters and terminating their actions on adjacent nerves, the reduced uptake
caused by fluoxetine increased the free serotonin that stimulates nerve cells in the brain (Ogbru,
2014, p. 1).
Why is fluoxetine the drug of choice? This medication is the drug of choice for this patient since
the use in treating depression is well established.

To test the hypothesis that taste sensitivity varies from an individual to another, and to detect the
absolute threshold of sugar dissolved in water through the perception of taste, this experiment was
conducted. Participants in the experiment tasted water sugar solution with different strength and
were asked to state if the liquid they were given had sugar in it or not. To get more accurate
results, the participants were not told if all the different liquids had sugar in them or if the sugar
amount varies in each solution. As the selectivity theory predicts, when an individual ages, their
sense of taste should considerably decrease. Also, I predict that the taste sensitivity in non smokers
should be higher than in smokers, as well as higher in females than in males.
Method
Participants The participants were chosen at random by the researchers who are Massey
university psychology students. The researchers were asked to conduct the experiment on two
participants who are over the age of 11 and not diabetic. The total of participants was 595,
including 326 females and 269 males. The mean age of the participants was 35.63 with female
mean age of 36.71 and male mean age of 34.31. The conductors were advised to find smokers for
half the participants if possible; so 202 of the participants were smokers and 393 were non
smokers. Participants fully understood what was expected of them before they took a part of the
