Okonkwo Being Weak
The main character is so focused on becoming a great man, the opposite image of his father, that
he forgets to be a good man. He is an abusive husband, beating his wives unnecessarily. He proves
to be a cruel and calculating father, playing favorites with his children, and dismissing them when
they displease him. He does everything with a heavy hand, and these methods work for him until
they cease to. That day comes when he accidentally kills someone and is banished from the village.
But, of course, problems had arisen even before this incident. When Ikemefuna dies, even Okonkwo
s best friend, Obierika warns him against his own clear folly, saying If I were you I would have
stayed at home. What you have done will not please the Earth. It is the kind of action for which the
goddess wipes out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The oracle never ordered Okonkwo to kill Ikemefuna. It only said that the deed had to be done.
Another man in the village could have carried out the order, but because of Okonkwo s
personality, he thought it necessary to execute the boy himself. What about Okonkwo made
him do it? Okonkwo has a deep fear of being weak. Weakness is a womanly trait, one that his
father possessed, and as has already been stated, Okonkwo is a man. When the troupe of men are
out in the woods, and Ikemefuna turns to Okonkwo to beg for help, it would be the womanly
thing, to not act. He could not let it appear that his foster son s pleadings affected him, so he
[cuts] him down because He was afraid of being weak (Achebe 61). His idea backfires, though,
because after killing the boy, Okonkwo falls into a depression that he cannot shake. It is his guilt,
his conscience, but as it turns out, the conscience is yet another undesirable, womanly trait. He
chooses to ignore it. Before this moment though, a village elder had even warned Okonkwo not to
venture into the woods with the other men to kill the boy. He says that boy calls you father. Do not
bear a hand in his death (Achebe

Duty In Aeneas
The Roman concept of duty was central to nearly everything they did and was tied closely to their
belief in the gods. This was especially true for Aeneas; his sense of duty drove his entire journey.
The Roman concept of duty essentially included loyalty to one s family and to the gods, which
ultimately becomes one s duty to his fate.
Aeneas, the depiction of the ideal Roman man, was very loyal to his family. Aeneas finds it of
utmost importance during his journey to visit his father in the underworld before settling with his
people in what would eventually become Rome. Aeneas wants to get advice and counsel from his
father because he values his opinion, but, more than that, Aeneas knows that one of the most
important things in his life is his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fate is often personified in ancient literature because it is a driving force behind many people s
journeys and actions. The same was true for Aeneas. His duty to the gods was tied closely to his
duty to fate and to destiny. Basically, the reason for all of Aeneas journey is tied to his fate.
Aeneas had been told by the gods that he was to found a great city which would grow and
become an empire Rome. Aeneas even placed his duty to fate above his own desires and passions.
When Aeneas visits the underworld and sees his former lover, Dido, there, Aeneas frantically tries
to appease her and explain why he had to leave her. He explains, I left your land against my will,
my queen./ The gods commands drove me to do their will (6.244 245). Aeneas was destined to
found Rome, and despite his own longing to stay with Dido, his duty to the gods and to fate
trumped his own desires. However, Aeneas duty to the gods and their will was also a positive
thing. After Vulcan gave Aeneas the shield which depicted the great feats of his descendants in
Rome, Aeneas was motivated and proud. The shield showed many of his descendants passionately
fighting for Rome, such as Augustus Caesar leading into battle/ Italians, with both senators and
people (8.91 92). Aeneas remained faithful to the gods and to his family by persevering through
difficulties, remembering his family, and fighting battles

India s Foreign Direct Investments
Despite its deceleration over the past few years, India has become one of the most attractive
places to outsource operations for corporations due to several important factors: Its young, well
educated low cost labor (Median age 27, according to the World Fact Book, CIA), the gradual
economic liberalization and industry deregulation and their several technical skills are only to
mention a few of the characteristics that make, along with China and certain other rising Asian
nations, serious candidates for hosting big corporation s foreign direct investments (Ranker, 2014).
But India has had to come a long way to stand to where it is now. Several events throughout history

Under this system, Nehru sought to strengthen the agricultural and power sectors, providing
agriculture 45% and industry 5% of the resource during the first Five Year Plan. It initially gave
India an increase of 3.6% (Exhibit 10a) on its gross domestic product during the first five years.
Following this the government isolated the country from foreign investment (as nationalist leaders
feared a dependency on it) and trade in an effort to promote domestic production and as a strategy
to reduce imports. Since the government had also created a complex system of licensing through
the Permit Raj, resources became scarce, the complexity of its bureaucracy fostered corruption and
became a reason of delay for companies. This made it hard for other important areas of the country
to help increase its economic growth. Also, the government gradually came into possession of most
of the private sectors: By 1956, it already had control of commercial banking, oil, insurance and
some important resources such as steel and mining. The government, along with the large family
conglomerates controlled almost all Indian economy and could arbitrarily choose how each
industry would be ran; it regulated the where, the how, the how much and the whether or not a
company would be given permission to produce. Price regulation and

White Blood Cell Pathogens
In a single drop of blood, there is about 7,000 25,000 white blood cells. The white blood cell
works for the immune system. The white blood cell is small and it is shaped like an oval to move
quickly around the body and to not get stuck. The main function of the white blood cell is to kill
any pathogen that tries to harm the human body system. When a group of cancercalled leukemia
attacks the bone marrow, it cause the bone marrow to produce abnormal white blood cells that do
not function properly. The white blood cell is part of the immune system. The cells in the immune
system distinguish between different kinds of pathogens. Then the immune system makes a
defense targeted specifically at that pathogen. Lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, produce
proteins that help damage or kill the pathogen. There are five kinds of white blood cells that
produce different antibodies to help defend against different kinds of pathogens. Red blood cells
carry oxygen to the lungs, and they also help release carbon dioxide. (Textbook). White blood
cells are round like an oval, small, and has a big nucleus to move efficiently and to help direct
other white blood cells to the invader. White blood cells flow through your bloodstream... Show

Cold War Dbq Essay
On September 1, 1939, Hitler invaded Poland and two days later, France and Britain declared war
on Germany, beginning World War II. The United States did not enter the war until after Pearl
Harbor was attacked by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service on December 7, 1941. After World
War II, the relationship that developed between the United Statesand the Union of Soviet Socialist
Republic was called the Cold War; the ends of World War II lead to the start of the Cold War. They

and the USSR caused disputes that eventually led up to the Cold War. Enormous growth spurred by
industries related to war was aided by heavy government expansion. The Americans advocated free
market capitalism while the Soviets promoted communism. George Kennan wanted a U.S. policy
that framed the issues and prevented the Soviet Union from taking action. From the beginning,
Kennan was suspicious of the Soviet s motives and thought that they weren t open to reasoning with
the U.S. He wanted the Soviet s to change their government policy (Doc 3). America s national
security policy forplanning post war was a cause of great discomfort for the Soviets. Due to this, the
Soviets were much more conscious of America s post war planning in which America planned to
regain their previous interests and possibly gain more. America s post war planning and their use of
the atomic bomb caused tension between them and the Soviet Union. After World War II, American
political policies towards the Soviets changed severely. Political policies such as the Truman
Doctrine and the Marshall Plan added to the failure of the relationship between the United States

to raise Cold War anxieties. Furthermore, the American media influenced the attitudes of
Americans, making a hatred of communism spread through the nation. In 1945, the U.S. Wanted

The Tell-Tale Heart Literary Analysis
Edgar Allan Poe wrote The Tell Tale Heart as a story about a man (the unnamed narrator) who is
terrified of an elderly man s eye. The narrator becomes so terrified, in fact, that he murders the
elderly man. Poe describes the setting, where the old man was murdered; he uses imagery and
personification to assist the reader in visualizing the setting; and Poe uses the following elements
of dark romanticism to show how the characters felt: nature and man s soul. Poe describes the
setting in a mysterious, spooky, and dark way. Poe wants the reader to understand that something
terrible will soon take place, and the narrator is preparing himself for what he is about to do, ... I
turned the latch of his door and opened it...I first put in a dark lantern...I undid the lantern
cautiously...I undid it just so much that a single thin ray fell upon the vulture eye...and every
morning,... I went boldly into his chamber, and spoke... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poe also uses deep, dark adjectives to give the reader a chance to imagine what the setting looks
like this is through the use of imagery. Poe uses imagery most when describing the old man s
eye, I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a
film over it, (691). When Poe describes the eye as the eye of a vulture the reader thinks of death,
darkness, and spookiness. A form of dark romanticism that Poe relates to imagery is man s soul.
Poe s narrator makes his hatred for the old man s eye evident in the diction he chooses to use when
describing the eye and the time creeping into the old man s chamber. As the narrator begins to kill
the old man, both the narrator and old man feel a sense of anxiety and nervousness. The narrator
becomes unsettled and anxious because he kept hearing the old man s beating heart; the beating
grew louder, louder! I thought the heart must

Persuasive Essay On Clean Coal
Coal is the dirtiest of all fossil fuels. When burned, it produces emissions that contribute to global
warming, create acid rain and pollute water. With all of the talk surrounding nuclear energy,
hydropower and biofuels, you might be forgiven for thinking that grimy coal is finally on its way
out. On the other hand, coalis no sooty remnant of the Industrial Revolution it generates half of
the electricity in the United States and will likely continue to do so as long as it s cheap and
plentiful . Clean coal technology seeks to reduce harsh environmental effects by using multiple
technologies to clean. Coal is a fossil fuel composed primarily of carbons and hydrocarbons. Its
ingredients help make plastics, tar and fertilizers. A coal derivative, a solidified carboncalled coke,
melts iron ore and reduces it to create steel. But most coal 92 percent of the U.S. supply goes into
power production .Electric companies and businesses with power plants burn coal to make the
steam that turns turbines and generates electricity. When coal burns, it releases carbon dioxideand
other emissions in flue gas, the billowing clouds you see pouring out of smoke stacks. Some clean
coal technologies purify the coal before it burns. One type of coal preparation, coal washing,
removes unwanted minerals by mixing crushed coal with a liquid and allowing the impurities to
separate and settle. Other systems control the coal burn to minimize emissions of sulfur dioxide,
nitrogen oxides and

Examples Of Idealism In All My Sons
Thus, Joe says to Chris that it is impossible to drive out from Kate s mind the notion that Larry is
still alive.
In the play, we find only one son Chris appearing physically, whereas Larry is merely referred to
because he is already dead by the time the play opens.
He says to Chris that he has done everything for Chris.
In fact, Joe Keller is mistakenly over concerned with his personal responsibility or his
responsibility towards his society or country as whole.
In All My Sons the character of Joe Keller has been presented by Miller with social and
psychological concerns.
Joe Keller s thinking was the outcome of social mischief.

Joe is the head of the Keller family, and the welfare of his family is his sole concern.
Another larger issue treated in All My Sons is related to the consideration of the relative
importance of personal responsibility and social responsibility.
An individual may be responsible to himself and his family; but he should also feel responsible
towards the society.
In owning the responsibility towards his family or his sons, which impels him to earn money by
dishonest means, Joe Keller seems to disown his social responsibility.
When Joe talks about his business and tells Chris that he committed the dishonest deed for him,
Chris retorts to him : The protagonist in this play is a manufacture or industrialist by the name of
Joe Keller.
Joe Keller belongs to the affluent class of society; and therefore he differs from the ordinary kind of
human beings who constitute the majority in every country.

Positive And Negative Effects Of American Imperialism
In my point of view, the colonial period shifted the balance previously present throughout the world,
in which imperialism had less relevance in everyday lives. Before the colonial period, the natives
living in the Americas and the Caribbeans, mainly had internal fighting or conflicts between rival
tribes. While in Europe, the most tension occurred between major empires competing for trade,
land, recourses, and wealth. However, once the Europeans began colonizing America, both of the
worlds collided in a massive fight for sovereignty and wealth. This can be seen in each country s
colonization of America. In the French colonization, the colonist traded advanced weaponry to the
Huron tribe for fur and strong alliances. Consequently, the natives... Show more content on

Although the colonial period, portrayed a time in which a variety of people were severely abused
and many conflicts were provoked, there were also many positive sides towards the American
colonization. This positive side promoted societal growth and increased numerous countries`
wealth dramatically. For example, the English found an outlet to employ many of their low class
peasants in their Chesapeake colonization, and also found a way to produce large amounts of rice,
tobacco, and many more exports. In addition to obtaining expensive goods and recourses, American
colonization gave European empires the opportunity to expand their rule across oceans. However,
In some situations this reaped negative results, such as the British attempt to excessively control
their colonies by unconstitutionally issuing new taxes. One can even go as far to say that
American colonization led to the separation of the British empire. Thus, there were both positive
and negative aspects towards American colonization, but if all the senseless deaths were worth the
society we have today, will be a question debated for many

Descriptive Essay About Taco Madre
Taco Madre is a new Mexican restaurant that opened in Niles, IL. There were several reasons why
this restaurant caught my eye. The interior was designed wonderfully but the location didn t seem
like a good fit, the food was tasty, the people who went were from all age groups, and the music
was entertaining. This restaurant had mostly pros with one con, but, overall, this is a restaurant that
everyone should try because it has a taste of Mexico with a modern style.
The first time I went to Taco Madre, I noticed the location right away. This restaurant recently
opened in my area, so my friends and I decided to check it out and get a bite to eat. I noticed it
was located next to Papa Johns and a Wings restaurant. Because, there are other restaurants
surrounding the premises, it will create competition. My first impression was to dock some points
because of where it was located, but the interior area made up for it.
As I stepped inside the restaurant, the first thing that caught my eye was the walls because it
had the same design as the menu. It struck out because the patterns of the flowers that were
imprinted on the walls showed a lot of colors, which helped brighten the room and add a sense of
dimension/comfort. Not only were the colors of the walls vibrant, but so was the salsa bar
because it was presented with a wide range of spices to choose from. Moreover, Taco Madre had
an excellent variety of food choices. Some of the food they served were tacos, burritos, and
tortas. The menu was not overbearing like the Cheesecake Factory, but it was not limited like
another restaurant. The aroma of the Mexican food would make anyone salivate, the food has
always tasted fresh; plus, they put extra cilantro with a lime on the side. My friends and I
combined the individual tables to make a gigantic seating arrangement suitable for the six of us. I
ordered a Mahi mahi, which is fried fish; there is an option of flour or corn tortilla, and for dessert I
ordered flan. The flan had vanilla ice cream, cherries, and whipped cream added to the top. The
Mahi mahi was cooked to perfection, and the flan consisted of sugary ingredients, and the sweet
taste filled my mouth. Another factor that struck out to me was

Summary Of A Thousand Splendid Suns
AN ANALYSIS OF THE NOVEL A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS
The opening of the novel sets the books foundation for the book s more macrocosmic themes.Nana
refers to Mariam as HARAMI i.e illegitimate child in order to suggest that Mariam s birth was the
consequence of an extra marital affair. The term HARAMI makes her upbringing as one that is
illegitimate,a reference that ,Mariam herself makes in the later chapter. On the opposite side ,Jalil
appears as the standard for legitimacy according to society.Yet,once he lets Mariam down and
subsequently rejects her presence at his home, his legitimacy as a father is called in to
question. In addition ,Jalil s relationship to Nana and Mariam displays his shame of his second
family. On the other hand Nana s emphasis on Mariam learning to endure suffering not only
suggest how bleak Mariam s future will be ,but also the type of lessons Mariam must have
learned as a child in Nana s home.Ultimately throughout the rest of the novel ,Mariam s capacity
for endurance is what allows her to survive horrible circumstances.Mariam s trip to herat which
culminates Nana s suicide.once she attempts to reach Jalil ,she is exposed to the truth about his
consideration for her as an outsider to his life. After her mother s death the simplicity of her life
in Kolba ends ,and she is thrust in to adulthood. She is forced to get married to Rasheed ,who is
20 yr older than her.Rasheed forced her to act like a wife,he demands her to clean and cook, and he

Symptoms And Treatment Of Psoriasis
The term comorbidity refers to the association of two distinct diseases in the same individual at a
rate higher than expected by chance (Bonavita and De Simone, 2008).
Although psoriasis has been previously thought to be a disease solely affecting primarily the skin
and the joints, our understanding of the comorbidities that may be associated with this disease has
grown significantly. Recent evidence has even suggested an increased over all risk of mortality in
patients with severe psoriasis (Gelfand JM et al., 2007).

A study by Cohen et al. (2008), supported previous reports of an association between psoriasis and
diabetes mellitus. The age adjusted proportion of diabetes was found to be significantly higher in
psoriasis patients as compared to the control group. A possible explanation for the association
between psoriasis and diabetes is the presence of chronic inflammation that occurs due to secretion
of TNF a and other proinflammatory cytokines such as IL 1 and IL 6, which precipitate both
psoriasis and diabetes.
2)Non Alcoholic Fat Liver Disease (NAFLD)
Prevalence of NAFLD in patients with psoriasis ran¬ges from 17 60% and is even greater in
patients with severe psoriasis and PsA ( Miele et al., 2009) .Similarly, Gisondi et al. speculated
that NAFLD may contribute to the seve rity of psoriasis through the release of inflammatory
mediators from the liver, including reactive oxygen species, CRP and IL 6, which also act as
mediators of atherogenesis (Gisondi et al., 2009),Moreover, patients with psoriasis and NAFLD
have higher risk of developing non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and cirrhosis than patients
with NAFLD without psoriasis (Wenk et al., 2009). At least in part, progres¬sion of NAFLD to
NASH is associated with an increa¬se in the TNFa/adiponectin ratio. (Sanz Lp , 2007).

A Market Based Approach For Community Development Essay
Community is established locally but community development is a process that includes actors
from inside and outside of the community to achieve sustainability. My previous essays have
addressed the progression of community development from place based attachment, organizing and
advocacy to addressing the need and effect of government involvement. The final stop on the
continuum of the communitydevelopment is to analyze market based approaches to community
development. This paper will look at how a market based approach to community development is an
important component of community development because it is the appropriate response to the
current socio economic, and political context that our country is in. A market based approach
provides a mechanism to define relationships and allocate economic resources to create systemic
change within communities. increasing opportunities for social inclusion and economic
sustainability
Social Sustainability
1.True community development exemplifies the relationship between the local actor and the
interconnectedness that needs to exist to accomplish change.
Market based approaches to community development involve those who participate in the social
economy i.e. cooperatives, social enterprises etc. Locally tied, these market based approaches tap
into social capital as key business practice. Broadly speaking most cooperatives would not succeed
if it were not for the collective membership of the local community. Cooperatives

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Saves Lives!
Automated External Defibrillators (AED) can be used by the untrained bystander, even if they
have never seen or used the machine before. This machine has both voice and visual instructions;
therefore, there is no reason to be intimidated. If you see a person suddenly collapse, pass out, or
find someone unconscious, having a general knowledge of how an AED machine functions, could
save their life. Before starting AED or any life saving measure, confirm that the person is unable to
respond by shouting, shaking, or pinching on top of their shoulders. If they are unresponsive
immediately call or have a bystander call 911, locate, and retrieve the AED machine. This machine
must be used within minutes of cardiac arrestonset to be effective; therefore, time is of the
essence! Try to ascertain how long the victim has been unconscious. Determine whether they are
breathing, and if they have a pulse. If the victim is breathing they will have a pulse; if they are
not breathing or pulse is absent or irregular, prepare to use the AED once it arrives at the scene.
Roll the person on their back, and begin doing 2 minutes of CPR (30 chest compressions). Once
the AED machine is at the scene, make sure the person isn t lying in or near water. If they are

Figurative Language In The Treasure Of Lemon Brown
Ellen Hunnicutt once said . . . figurative language adds pizzazz. It raise work above the plain, the
dull, the ordinary. This quote explains how using figurative language helps create a more
interesting and useful way of expressing a tone of a character or event.Figurative language is a
uses of words, phrases, and sentences to help to make the characters and story line come more to
live in the reader s mind. Some examples of Figurative languages are similes, metaphors,
hyperbole, personification, onomatopoeia, and many more. Figurative language help the reader
see tone and mood in each of the example of figurative language because the reader can see or
image the event or character in their mind. In a story, poem, or any form of writing, figurative
language is extremely important to a reader because if a sentencedidn t have figurative language the
reader may not find the story or poem interesting or even find it confusing and difficult to
understand. In addition the use of figurative language is crucial when an author is writing. In the
stories The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter Dean Myers and The Pigman
, By Paul Zindel, the
authors used Figurative language to develop the tone of their stories so that that the reader can
visualize it in their mind.
In the stories The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter Dean Myers, the author uses figurative
language to help the reader understand the tone of the story. The figurative language used in this

mood. Grey and Lemon Brown are in a abandoned house and both of them hear a car pass by, A

Difference Between Whites And Native Americans
The United States saw themselves superior to the Native Americans in all ways. One of these
superiorities included the social stance between the whites and the Indians. In the winter of 1811
Tecumseh preached to the Osages, The white men despise and cheat the Indians; they abuse and
insult them; they do not think the red men sufficiently good to live. The Natives begin to realize
that they have always been mistreated by the whites and understand that they are seen as inferior
towards the whites. This is similar to John Ross s experience; he was once liked very much by
many white men, until after he married a white woman. Their marriagearoused harsh anger and he

in earlier days. However, recently, missions are returning more and more surprising data as

Liquid water does not flow on the surface of Mars. However, permanent ice caps were found at
both of Mars poles, and they are mostly made up of solid carbon dioxide. Additionally, significant

Article Analysis Of Camille Paglia s On Date Rape
On Date Rape is an article written by Camille Raglia, which argues the young women of today pay
not much attention about their safety while they re enjoying the freedom they deserve. (Paglia)
According to the author of this article, who also is a humanities professor and a cultural critic, a
woman should pay more attention to their safety while they pursuit the freedom as man does.
Because a woman is likely become a victimin a rapecase. In this article, the author also implies
that even the law should protect women from the rape, but women themselves still should build
up a self protection awareness to keep them away from the rape crime. (Paglia) However, even
this article points out a main argument about self protection awareness is necessary for a woman,
but some of its point didn t support the main argument of this article. In additional, the focus of my
article is about to analysis the article of Camille Paglia, On Date Rape. Also, I ll point out some
misconceptions about her work.
The first point I recognized in Paglia s article is the third paragraph of the article, which explains
that because of the young feminists come from a white, middle class world, so that they expect
everything should be safe as they think. On the other side, because the black or Hispanic women
grow up in a different environment, where full of sexual culture, therefore they will pay more
attention of their safety (Paglia). In my opinion, the rape crime is not only existing in black and

The European Union And The People s Republic Of China
Introduction This year, the European Union and the People s Republic of China celebrate their 40
years anniversary of diplomatic relations with one another. During these years, they have redefined
their relationship, they have deepened their mutual understanding and today they share what both
sides call a strategic partnership . However, during all these four decades, this profound relationship
experienced many difficulties and challenges, until the last two decades, which marked a new era
of political and economic strengthening of their ties. Especially, since China s accession in the
WTO and the institutionalisation of its economic and trade cooperation with the EU, the two parts
have witnessed a flourishing of their relations. The EU... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Going through the background of the relations between the two sides, focusing primarily on the
economic aspect of it, the paper will examine the opportunities and challenges of the strategic
partnership between the EU and China and it will argue that for China, the EU is the best
economic and strategic partner within the global economic system. EU China economic relations:
a brief overview Europe and China share a long history of bilateral relations and economic
cooperation. Trade and economic exchanges go back as long as 20 centuries ago, when the Roman
empire formed relations with ancient China in order to trade goods through the Asian continent.
The most infamous one is the example of the so called silk roads , paths that enabled cultural
interaction and commodity sharing, such as gold and silk, between European (Greek, Roman,
Byzantine) and Asian (Chinese, Indian, Persian) civilisations and were carried out by missionary
merchants and pilgrim travelers. During the modern history, however, European and China
economic relations have gone through many ups and downs, as the international climate affected
drammatically their perception of each other. The two World Wars damaged heavily the
economies of Europe, while China was still under very low levels of economic development. After
the second World War, the US rose as the global economic power and overshadowed the previous

Essay about Anticipatory Grief
Grief is a universal reaction experienced by all of us at some time in our lives. The capacity that
makes each of us capable of warm, satisfying relationships also leaves us vulnerable to sadness,
despair, and grief when such relationships are disrupted (Carr, 1969). Regardless of the actual
relationship that might have existed prior to the death, we have the tendency to idealize the
relationship once death has occurred and we expect expressions of normal grief. Unfortunately,
normal grief is what society expects, but the needs of the individual prerequisites putting a label on
grief. Because society influences our behavior through the secondary reinforcement of social
approval during this time, we are not looking at the primary... Show more content on

When examining whether anticipatory grief hinders conventional grief, Clayton, Halikas,
Maurice, and Robbins (1973) found more depressive symptoms in the first month of bereavement
in women who had experienced anticipatory grief. This would coincide with the theory of learned
helplessness. If we cannot control our environment (death of a loved one) then we are at the
mercy of the environment. For this reason there is no contingency between our response and the
consequences. This leads to associative, motivational, and emotional deficits. The individual has
no motive for anything, is under extreme stress, and becomes depressed, all leading to learned
helplessness. In other words, our world has turned upside down and we have no control over it.
Researchers also found that after one year these widows were no better off than widows who
lacked such preparation.
In a study done by Gilliland and Fleming (1998), three groups of spouses, were looked at to see
if anticipatory grief and conventional grief were similar. The groups consisted of group one
Palliative Care Group (PCG), spouses of the terminally ill, a control group (CG) consisting of
individuals with healthy spouses to account for the level of grief symptoms associated with stress
and loss in a normative sample. The second control group, a chronic care group (CCG) was

Proteins And Its Effect On Human Body
Proteins are one of the most important biological molecules in the body; they make up more than
50% of the dry mass in human body cells. Their simple structure can be described as amino acid
polymers as they are made up of many amino acid monomers stringed together in a linear fashion,
which then gives rise to more complex structures, as various bonding and manipulation takes place.
The name proteincomes from the Greek word meaning holding first place which supports the fact
that they are essential to life. Proteins, depending on their structure and where they are found, play
very different roles in an organism. One of the main types of proteins are enzymes which act as
biological catalysts, and are fundamental to the chemical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An amino acid is made up of a carbon atom in the centre (known as the пЃЎ carbon), a carboxyl
group, amino group, a hydrogen atom and an R group (figure 1). The R group is the section of
the amino acid that determines its chemical properties. In glycine, the R group is hydrogen.
Some of the amino acids have R groups that are hydrophobic and some have R groups that are
hydrophilic and this often determines how the protein folds into its tertiary structure and also
where they can be found within the cell. It is the sequence of these amino acids that determines
the type of protein that is made. Amino acids join to form proteins in a process known as protein
synthesis where a gene is expressed to produce a polypeptide chain. After the genetic code has
been translated from the DNA in the nucleus, the resulting mRNA is transcribed into a
polypeptide in the cytoplasm of the cell. The mRNA binds to a ribosome and has 3 base pairs
exposed called a codon. The anticodon of a tRNA molecule can then bind to the codon as it has
complementary base pairs, and it carries with it an amino acid. The first amino acid in the chain
is always methionine. When a second tRNA, carrying a different amino acid arrives and binds, a
peptide bond forms between the two amino acids and the resulting product is a dipeptide molecule
two amino acids joined together. This process continues and as more amino acids are joined
together by peptide

Billy Elliot Stereotypes
The Graceful Man
Since primitive times, men were been considered the primary providers and protectors for their
family (Hinshaw). This role has diminished through the twentieth and twenty first centuries, but the
need to be macho remains in countless men. Makeup, tights, and ballet shoes are rarely considered
masculine. Therefore, a subsequent stereotype has become prevalent. People erroneously believe
all danseurs to be gay, weak, and feminine. Frequently, maledancers are left to feel inadequate and
are discouraged from their art because their manliness is questioned. However, the 2000 film, Billy
Elliot, juxtaposes the stereotype of male ballet dancers with a titular character who defies all
expectations. The man s historical role as provider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My House, And Household Apples
After analyzing the five sections beginning with My House and Household Apples we can infer
that the entire story is about people longing for love and looking for a life that s always
blossoming and full of hope, only to find this dream dashed. In fact, we can infer this from the
recurring themes and images that are portrayed throughout these sections. Like, the images of
the trees and how the narrator describes them as not only beautiful but also as if they present a
sense of endless opportunities. This idea is dashed though in the Household Apple s section
when the man failed to spray the trees to prevent bugs from swarming them and the fruit they
were grew. They [flies] were everywhere the fruit was: in the tree still apples like a hive for
them or where the fruit littered the ground, squashing itself as you stepped...there was no help for
it. The flies droned, feasting on the sweet juice. No one could go near the trees; I could not climb;
(Gass 17). The man can no longer climb the tree like he once did in which he saw the country sail
away from him, and figuratively speaking the span of opportunities presented to him. Thus, the flies
consuming the trees and preventing anyone from going near them is used to illustrate the end of
these endless opportunities, of hope. Additionally, themes involving love and loneliness stand out.
We particularly see this when it says, No one notices, when they walk by, that I am brimming in the
doorways...To anybody else it s

Manhattan Project Effects
On August 6th, 1945 sixty thousand people instantly disintegrated within a five mile radius blast
that erupted over Hiroshima, Japan. Three days later an even stronger blast was felt over the
Japanese city of Nagasaki. Though thousands died, the technologic improvement from the original
bomb did not go unnoticed. Both Little boy and Fat man were successful in collapsing the Japanese
will to fight and on August 15th Japan surrendered to the United States. Without the introduction of
the atomic bomb, no one can say for sure how long the war would have raged on for. As noted in
the Battle of Midway the shortage of experienced pilots hindered Japan but advanced their tactics
as well. Rather than training proficient pilots, the Japanese took a kamikaze approach to aerial
combat and rammed fighter planes into the sides of US ships. At this point, the Japanese were
literally willing to die for their country even if it meant complete suicide. The success of the

The Characters Of Cujo Cujo
Based on the descriptions and events in this excerpt. I can infer that the title character, Cujo, has
turned rabid and he is out to look for blood. I can also infer that his eyes are red and watery with
thick substance leaking from it. Finally, I can infer that he has already killed his owner because
he had mud and blood all over him. This was all stated in paragraphs 10 and 11, The dog s eyes
settled on hers. They were red and rheumy. They were leaking some viscous substance. The dog
seemed to be weeping gummy tears. His tawny coat was caked and matted with mud and Blood. is
that... All of this evidence told me that Cujois rabid and has already killed his owner.
Donna s actions and thoughts reveal that her character is very clumsy and when she gets frightened
she is unable to think and is unaware of what she is doing. In paragraph 13 it states, She couldn t
seem to move. No breath...There was no contact between her brain and her legs...Her hands were
stupid blocks of flesh south of her wrists with no feeling in them. Her urine went. She was
unaware of it save for some vague sensation of distant warmth. This tells me that when Donna saw
the dog, Cujo, she didn t know what to do and just stood there. Also, in paragraph 16 it states, She

sending a steely bolt of pain up to her hip...She hit her crazybone and uttered a thin shriek of pain.

Effects Of Alcohol On Social Behavior
The presence of alcoholic beverages seems ubiquitous today, and it has been that way for
thousands of years. Nowadays, it can be found at sporting events, social gatherings, with meals, and
in many other environments. Alcohol is a psychoactive drug (it alters mood and potentially
consciousness) and is specifically classified as a depressant. Depressant drugs slow down the
nervous systemand physiological functioning while promoting a relaxing, drowsy feeling. In the
case of alcohol, these aforementioned effects typically arise when heavy doses of the drug are
consumed. In low to moderate doses, however, the opposite happens. The alcohol has a mood
elevating effect, along with many other physical and social symptoms that are associated with it.
This essay will discuss some of the effects that alcohol has on social behavior. First, the mechanism
of action alcohol has on the brainwill be explained, followed by paragraphs that discuss how
moderate amounts of alcohol influence social behavior, sexual behavior, and driving ability. The
fundamental basis for how alcohol effects the body starts at the neuronal level. A neuronis another
name for nerve cell. The human brain contains trillions of these nerve cells, which transmit
information to and from each other, and subsequently to the rest of the body. Neurons have
dendrites, which contain receptors that receive chemical messages from other nerve cells. These
receptors are influenced by chemicals called neurotransmitters, which

only threats to internal validity would be if someone dropped out, stopped taking their medication,
or had a reaction to the new medication however since none of these situations were mentioned

be that no regular checks are listed in order to gather data, and make sure all recipients are

Also in the movie the train almost had an accident unlike the book. They put this in the movie
so it could build up to that scene as a climax to scare the viewers that something might happen. In
the trailer for the movie, it even shows the train getting into an accident so the viewers will want
to go see what happens to the train. As well as the movie adding the songs, it also added the kids
getting a special ticket. Each child had a certain a letter at the beginning of their train ride,
punched by the conductor. When the kids were done experiencing the North Pole, the conductor
punched out a word pertaining to each kid. The main kid got the word believe punched into his
ticket because he did not believe in Santa at the beginning of the movie. The African American
girl got leader punched into her ticket because she was the one that always knew what to do.
The poor boy, Billy, also got believe because he didn t think Santa was real either. This leads into
the most important difference between the book and the movie. In the movie it depicts that
going to the North Pole to see Santa was all a dream, while in the book it made it all seem real.
When children go see this movie, they might think that since the boy is having a dream that Santa
must not be real. A lot of research has been done about kids believing in Santa. Gail Vines wrote
about the Santa delusion from psychologist s perspectives. According to Gail Vines (2007),

Throughout the era after the Civil War, Blacks struggled to show themselves and create an identity

three of the issues that were influenced by the racial attitudes of the times. Many authors

We make our customs lightly; once made, like our sins, they grip us in bands of steel, we
become creatures of our creations. By one standard the office boy should have never been born.
Yet he is a son of Adam and came into existence in the way ordained by God from the beginning
of the world (Chestnutt, 24). Chestnutt shows the judge in the same struggle that he leaves his

Chestnutt leaves his readers with this dichotomy in his book. Chestnutt balances between

miscegenation should or should not be allowed. Sexuality was also an issue for Blacks in this

women were allowed to be. Sexual desire needed to be separate from respectability. And
respectability was highly prized. Larsen s character Helga struggles greatly with this dichotomy

With liquidly rationing, (credit crunch) does offering covered bonds hold the answer or does it just

Introduction
In the modern day world, with technology and global markets expanding, the need for credit is a
constant issue for economies to monitor. Liquidity rationing has been most relevant since the GFC,
when the credit market essentially froze, sending financial markets in turmoil. Therefore finding
ways to increase liquidity at a time when markets are volatile requires instruments of low risk.
Covered bonds have recently gained momentum as a popular tool for banks to increase their

Prior to the intensification of the financial crisis in October 2008, covered bonds were a key
source of funding for euro area banks. The market had grown to over €2.4 trillion by the end of
2008, compared with about €1.5 trillion in 2003 (ECBC, 2009). The lack of credit risk transfer
with covered bonds is an important distinction with this asset class compared with, for example,
asset backed securities (ABS) and other securities that were subject to securitization. This may well
explain the resilience of the covered bond market at the initial stage of the crisis in August 2007.
(Biswas, 2010) Investors affinity for covered bonds can be explained by their relative safety
compared with any non securitized asset class. In relation to covered bonds, a pool of collateral
backs the credit risk of the issuer, which is usually of high quality. Despite this, however, the
covered bond market was not totally immune to the effects of the crisis. Up to the intensification of
the crisis following the collapse of Lehman Brothers in mid September 2008, it was clear that the
covered bond market had outperformed other wholesale funding instruments. The widening of
spreads was much less substantial for covered bonds than other ABS and unsecured debt. (Biswas,
2010) Graph 1 backs up this argument that the widening of spreads was less significant for covered

his ring on. He follows the elves and gets into the place in which they are captured. He then
hatches a plan to save them. He has to steal a key when there is a large banquet happening so as
most of the elves are busy, then he must release his friends and stow them away in barrels that
are to be sent down the river having been used. Now this sounds like a difficult task but not for
our friend Bilbo who is very adept at getting out of tight situations. He releases his friends much
to all the elves dismay. Then after all the trouble you would think the rest to be a walk in the park.
It is just not that easy. Now they must face a dragon, to claim the treasure they were after from the

Analysis Of Mayor Muriel Bowser s Leadership Style
(Associated Press). These are also amongst some of the everyday pressing concerns of residents of
Washington DC.
Therefore, her leadership style is unique, due to the early influences in her love of living in
Washington DC and working alongside of her father and Mayor Fenty with politics (Jaffee, 2014).
Many of the qualities of compassion and understanding of the needs of citizens are derived from
the sincerity she has witnessed her father provide.
Leadership Recommendations: Mayor Muriel Bowser

This program will also improve the city in long term goals by having individuals who are highly
qualified and completes their jobs more effectively. This enhancement in the education and
training of employees can be documented by the human resources department and also quarterly
reviews of productivity of each employee. Transparency in leadership practices is important due
to the increase in corruption amongst governmental official. An incident in which recently took
place with Mayor Bowser includes her new plans to shut down a previous homeless shelter at
DC General within a certain timeline. Individuals would then transfer to new housing in which
Mayor Bowser found private property in which the city would pay for this transitional housing
from its budget. Council members became suspicious when Mayor Bowser would not discuss
how the property and zoning permits were acquired, but the private owners of the property were
known as large contributors to her campaign. These types of practices cause suspicion and
speculation of leaders, especially in a city which deems such a corrupt history from Mayor Barry
and Mayor Fenty. According to Arzumanyan, leadership requires publicity and openness of the
leader and his or her team (Arzumanyan, 2016). Within transparency and openness of the political
agenda of members of the DC Counsel, there will be a regained sense of trust amongst citizens and
officials. Another tool in which Mayor

Pain, Acute Pain And Chronic Pain
Pain is an experience that involves both the mind and the body. It is an uncomfortable feeling that
signals your brain that there may be something wrong with your body. Pain is an irritating and
unpleasant sensory and emotional experience which may be caused by a damage in the tissues,
one s beliefs or thoughts, or environmental stressors such as one s job or traffic. Painis a significant
stress both physically and emotionally. It may cause discomfort, distress or agony. It may be steady
or throbbing. It maybe stabbing, aching or pinching.
In the past, many people thought that pain was a result of a damaged tissues. However now the
researchers have come to find out that pain is an intricate process that might or might not include
tissue damage and most likely involves social, psychological and emotional factors, which can
either cause, increase, or decrease painful sensations.
There are two types of pain, acute pain and chronic pain.
Acute pain is a short lasting pain, which can be easily described and observed. Acute pain begins
suddenly and is a sharp pain. It s a warning of a disease or a threat to the body. Acute pain might
be just mild and may last for a moment, or it may be severe and last for weeks or months. Acute
pain does not last longer than 6 months. If the pain lasts longer than 6 months than it may proceed
on to chronic pain.
Chronic pain tends to affect a person s whole life including a change in their personality, the

helping others to understand the balance between risk and rights improve practice. Risk
assessment and risk management are an essential part of adult social care but it is often difficult
to balance empowerment with the duty of care we owe our clients. For individuals to be able to
lead independent lives, the risks they choose to take need to be constantly weighed up against the
likelihood of significant harm arising from that choice and the situation in question. In section 3
of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 states it shall be the duty of every employer to conduct
his undertaking in such a way as to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that persons not in
his employment who may be affected thereby are not thereby exposed to risks to their health or

Perception Of Authority

Perception of Authority
An instance of travel on the most elementary level is a journey to another location. In Home and
Harem, Inderpal Grewal identifies travel as an institution of England. The voyage to new territories
had sparked a new era filled with new opportunities and ideals in the European continent. Most
importantly travel became an agent of English nationalism and was a key aspect in rise of
imperialism. To expand England s domain of influence became a collective journey and eventually
being a subject of England was equivalent to being imperialist. For people that could not travel, the
guidebook acted as the object of mediation between authority and those it was imposed on (105). At
the Metropolitan Museum, the Egyptian exhibit is also represented under a certain niche monitored
by authority. The spectator culture may vary based on prior knowledge, but the carefully fabricated
environment showcases how the controller authorizes representation within their domains.
There is an unsettled discussion on the pertinence of imperialism to all classes in England. While
some consider it just a concern of the nobility others link it to the manifestation of newborn
nationalism and patriotism in all classes beginning from the mid 19th century. John Mackenzie in
Propaganda and Empire and Imperialism and Pop Culture introduces the concept of generalized
imperial vision as a counterview to the discussion. He sees classes as formations that are
predetermined.

Culture and Diversity
XYZ Car Company production lines are located in the U.S., Japan and Germany. Therefore,

Sociological conceptions of culture are typically interested in the instrumental values according to
which organisation members coordinate their activity and through which they attempt to achieve
their goals (Dempsey, 2015, p. 322).
In a bureaucratic setting, the predictability of behavior and the probability that it will be functional
in organizational terms are greatly enhanced by the limited number of behavioral alternatives
(Presthus, 1958, p. 56).
Japan Culture
Stereotype and the actual culture of Japanese employees and the success of these companies
should be taken into consideration. Research has found that Japanese employees have unusually
strong identification with the company, but not necessarily high job satisfaction or strong
commitment to the performance of specific job tasks (Lincoln Kalleberg, 1985, p.738). The
Japanese workers have longer work hours, low wages and yet have higher loyalty of employees. It
is speculated that Japanese Managers have contributed towards the success of the company and
held to higher standards to ensure productivity from their employees. Japanese companies will look
to and respect the senior workers, which demonstrates respect and appropriate organization
behaviors. As employees turn to their mentors for advice, they make fewer mistakes on the job,
cutting losses to the employer (Tingum, 2016). Overall, there are less satisfied employees than any
other countries compared Japan and we need to

Relationship Between The Relationship In Pirates Of The...
An important relationship that is shown in the visual text Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the
Black Pearl (2003), directed by Gore Verbinski was between two main characters, Captain Jack
Sparrow and Will Turner. Their relationship was one of the most important in the film as it shows
us how these two characters have changed their perspectives of the world and most importantly,
towards each other. There are several examples of how their relationship changes throughout. At the
beginning of the film, Jack considers Will as a lame commoner and Will was quite stereotypical
about Jack being a pirate . Their animosity and hatred were quite mutual given their respective
backgrounds. As the movie progresses, this relationship is more about one s own benefits. They
realise and understand each other s strengths and weaknesses well and use each other selfishly.
Towards the end, this selfish attitude matures into friendship. At the beginning of the film, Jack and
Will had completely different opinions about each other. Jack Sparrow, a clever, cunning and
calculated man saw Will as a lay man and would find it hard to believe that they would become
friends. Pirates in those days or even today are considered hard core criminals. Will being raised
as a common man, irrespective of his past also think the same. The Black Pearl being at the
pinnacle of evilness people consider the pirates on that ship to be the worst of mankind. The
slightest hint that Jack Sparrow is associated with the

Science in Nathaniel Hawthorne s Rappaccini s Daughter
The short story Rappaccini s Daughter can be seen as a love story about young man determined to
be with his beloved, despite the fact that she is poisonous. However, when examining the text,
underlying theme about science arise. During the time in which this piece was written, science
was rapidly evolving. All biological sciences must first go through a taxonomic stage since their
data must be put in order before they can be employed in research on an analytical level (Shryock

These discoveries helped shape the views of 18th century American society. Parallels about
religion can also be made by comparing Rappaccini s poisonous garden and the Garden of Eden.
The story contains many biblical allegories which hinted to the viewpoint of that time. The most
significant Parallel that can be made between the story and 18th century American Society is the
use of science to explain the rank of creatures in nature. The Mismeasure of Man by Stephen Jay
Gould is an important tool in critiquing the misuse of science to justify social inequalities such
as racism and sexism. In assessing the impact of science upon the 18th century views of race we
must first recognize the cultural milieu of a society whose leaders and intellectuals did not
doubt the propriety of racial ranking with Indians below Whites and Blacks below every one
(Gould 63) Rappaccini uses the excuse that the world is dangerous to justify why her made his
daughter poisonous. He fails to realize that he is actually hurting his daughter Beatrice.
Rappaccini myopically ignores the needs of others, imposing his sense of things on the people
who fall under his control.(Wachtel) His selfish actions shows that he has a lack of morals. A
second parallel that can be made is Rappaccini s desire to have dominion over nature Dr.
Rappaccini is extremely talented botanist; he has

Past Influences that Marked Brazils Contemporary Society
This paper analyzes aspects of Brazil s colonial history that has influenced contemporary societies. It
also describes and critiques measures that have recently been implemented by the Brazilian
government in attempt to curb the further deterioration of society.
In Brazil s society, neoliberal and capitalist beliefs within the social structure have hindered
democratic politics. Diverse social groups are unable to come together and exert their political
power as a united front, instead, the neoliberal belief of market power replacing citizenship power
stratified the population based on capital. What all people of Brazil have in common is their
citizenship and under the constitution, each citizen is entitled to equal access in the political
realm. Brazil attempts to achieve this by requiring everyone to cast an opinion in the form of a
vote. Citizenship has provided common ground and an articulatory principle for an immense
diversity of social movements that have adopted the language of right as a way of expressing
their demands and because of this, citizenship is a crucial weapon not only in the struggle against
social and economic exclusion and disparity but also in the broadening of dominant conceptions of
politics. [1] This paper will argue that the economic and social inequalities faced by many inferior
populations in Brazil are an effect of the neoliberal concept of citizenship. By the neoliberal concept
of citizenship it is meant that citizenship began to be

Social Labeling Paper
Introduction In this paper I will be discussing my experiences being labeled as deviant. All my
life I have struggled with social anxiety. This anxiety makes it difficult for me to talk to other
people in social situations or speak to others in large groups. As a result of this, others often see
me as weird . Throughout this paper, I will analyze how I have come to be labeled deviant and
how I have adapted to this label over the course of my life. Within the study of deviance, the
labeling perspective as well as symbolic interactionism aid in our understanding of the stigmatizing
process that takes place. More specifically, these theories help us understand the process of being

Therefore, for Blumer, meaning affects human action. It is said, because people actively
interpret symbols, they may see slightly or even radically different meanings than others would
under the same circumstances (Gomme, 2007, p. 83). In relation to my experience, this stands
true. As stated in the introduction to this analysis, throughout middle and high school, I was put
in different classrooms than other students to do my work because I was viewed as incapable of
completing my work to the ability of my classmates. As I got older teachers would more

  • 2. Okonkwo Being Weak The main character is so focused on becoming a great man, the opposite image of his father, that he forgets to be a good man. He is an abusive husband, beating his wives unnecessarily. He proves to be a cruel and calculating father, playing favorites with his children, and dismissing them when they displease him. He does everything with a heavy hand, and these methods work for him until they cease to. That day comes when he accidentally kills someone and is banished from the village. But, of course, problems had arisen even before this incident. When Ikemefuna dies, even Okonkwo s best friend, Obierika warns him against his own clear folly, saying If I were you I would have stayed at home. What you have done will not please the Earth. It is the kind of action for which the goddess wipes out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The oracle never ordered Okonkwo to kill Ikemefuna. It only said that the deed had to be done. Another man in the village could have carried out the order, but because of Okonkwo s personality, he thought it necessary to execute the boy himself. What about Okonkwo made him do it? Okonkwo has a deep fear of being weak. Weakness is a womanly trait, one that his father possessed, and as has already been stated, Okonkwo is a man. When the troupe of men are out in the woods, and Ikemefuna turns to Okonkwo to beg for help, it would be the womanly thing, to not act. He could not let it appear that his foster son s pleadings affected him, so he [cuts] him down because He was afraid of being weak (Achebe 61). His idea backfires, though, because after killing the boy, Okonkwo falls into a depression that he cannot shake. It is his guilt, his conscience, but as it turns out, the conscience is yet another undesirable, womanly trait. He chooses to ignore it. Before this moment though, a village elder had even warned Okonkwo not to venture into the woods with the other men to kill the boy. He says that boy calls you father. Do not bear a hand in his death (Achebe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Duty In Aeneas The Roman concept of duty was central to nearly everything they did and was tied closely to their belief in the gods. This was especially true for Aeneas; his sense of duty drove his entire journey. The Roman concept of duty essentially included loyalty to one s family and to the gods, which ultimately becomes one s duty to his fate. Aeneas, the depiction of the ideal Roman man, was very loyal to his family. Aeneas finds it of utmost importance during his journey to visit his father in the underworld before settling with his people in what would eventually become Rome. Aeneas wants to get advice and counsel from his father because he values his opinion, but, more than that, Aeneas knows that one of the most important things in his life is his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fate is often personified in ancient literature because it is a driving force behind many people s journeys and actions. The same was true for Aeneas. His duty to the gods was tied closely to his duty to fate and to destiny. Basically, the reason for all of Aeneas journey is tied to his fate. Aeneas had been told by the gods that he was to found a great city which would grow and become an empire Rome. Aeneas even placed his duty to fate above his own desires and passions. When Aeneas visits the underworld and sees his former lover, Dido, there, Aeneas frantically tries to appease her and explain why he had to leave her. He explains, I left your land against my will, my queen./ The gods commands drove me to do their will (6.244 245). Aeneas was destined to found Rome, and despite his own longing to stay with Dido, his duty to the gods and to fate trumped his own desires. However, Aeneas duty to the gods and their will was also a positive thing. After Vulcan gave Aeneas the shield which depicted the great feats of his descendants in Rome, Aeneas was motivated and proud. The shield showed many of his descendants passionately fighting for Rome, such as Augustus Caesar leading into battle/ Italians, with both senators and people (8.91 92). Aeneas remained faithful to the gods and to his family by persevering through difficulties, remembering his family, and fighting battles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. India s Foreign Direct Investments Despite its deceleration over the past few years, India has become one of the most attractive places to outsource operations for corporations due to several important factors: Its young, well educated low cost labor (Median age 27, according to the World Fact Book, CIA), the gradual economic liberalization and industry deregulation and their several technical skills are only to mention a few of the characteristics that make, along with China and certain other rising Asian nations, serious candidates for hosting big corporation s foreign direct investments (Ranker, 2014). Under this system, Nehru sought to strengthen the agricultural and power sectors, providing agriculture 45% and industry 5% of the resource during the first Five Year Plan. It initially gave India an increase of 3.6% (Exhibit 10a) on its gross domestic product during the first five years. Following this the government isolated the country from foreign investment (as nationalist leaders feared a dependency on it) and trade in an effort to promote domestic production and as a strategy to reduce imports. Since the government had also created a complex system of licensing through the Permit Raj, resources became scarce, the complexity of its bureaucracy fostered corruption and became a reason of delay for companies. This made it hard for other important areas of the country to help increase its economic growth. Also, the government gradually came into possession of most of the private sectors: By 1956, it already had control of commercial banking, oil, insurance and some important resources such as steel and mining. The government, along with the large family conglomerates controlled almost all Indian economy and could arbitrarily choose how each industry would be ran; it regulated the where, the how, the how much and the whether or not a company would be given permission to produce. The white blood cell is small and it is shaped like an oval to move quickly around the body and to not get stuck. The main function of the white blood cell is to kill any pathogen that tries to harm the human body system. The white blood cell is part of the immune system. The cells in the immune system distinguish between different kinds of pathogens. Then the immune system makes a defense targeted specifically at that pathogen. Lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell, produce proteins that help damage or kill the pathogen. There are five kinds of white blood cells that produce different antibodies to help defend against different kinds of pathogens. Enormous growth spurred by industries related to war was aided by heavy government expansion. The Americans advocated free market capitalism while the Soviets promoted communism. George Kennan wanted a U.S. policy that framed the issues and prevented the Soviet Union from taking action. From the beginning, Kennan was suspicious of the Soviet s motives and thought that they weren t open to reasoning with the U.S. He wanted the Soviet s to change their government policy (Doc 3). America s national security policy forplanning post war was a cause of great discomfort for the Soviets. Due to this, the Soviets were much more conscious of America s post war planning in which America planned to regain their previous interests and possibly gain more. America s post war planning and their use of the atomic bomb caused tension between them and the Soviet Union. After World War II, American political policies towards the Soviets changed severely. Political policies such as the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan added to the failure of the relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union. • 7. The Tell-Tale Heart Literary Analysis Edgar Allan Poe wrote The Tell Tale Heart as a story about a man (the unnamed narrator) who is terrified of an elderly man s eye. The narrator becomes so terrified, in fact, that he murders the elderly man. Poe describes the setting, where the old man was murdered; he uses imagery and personification to assist the reader in visualizing the setting; and Poe uses the following elements of dark romanticism to show how the characters felt: nature and man s soul. Poe describes the setting in a mysterious, spooky, and dark way. Poe wants the reader to understand that something terrible will soon take place, and the narrator is preparing himself for what he is about to do, ... Poe also uses deep, dark adjectives to give the reader a chance to imagine what the setting looks like this is through the use of imagery. Poe uses imagery most when describing the old man s eye, I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it, (691). When Poe describes the eye as the eye of a vulture the reader thinks of death, darkness, and spookiness. A form of dark romanticism that Poe relates to imagery is man s soul. Poe s narrator makes his hatred for the old man s eye evident in the diction he chooses to use when describing the eye and the time creeping into the old man s chamber. • 9. Examples Of Idealism In All My Sons Thus, Joe says to Chris that it is impossible to drive out from Kate s mind the notion that Larry is still alive. In the play, we find only one son Chris appearing physically, whereas Larry is merely referred to because he is already dead by the time the play opens. He says to Chris that he has done everything for Chris. In fact, Joe Keller is mistakenly over concerned with his personal responsibility or his responsibility towards his society or country as whole. In owning the responsibility towards his family or his sons, which impels him to earn money by dishonest means, Joe Keller seems to disown his social responsibility. When Joe talks about his business and tells Chris that he committed the dishonest deed for him, Chris retorts to him : The protagonist in this play is a manufacture or industrialist by the name of Joe Keller. • 10. Positive And Negative Effects Of American Imperialism In my point of view, the colonial period shifted the balance previously present throughout the world, in which imperialism had less relevance in everyday lives. Before the colonial period, the natives living in the Americas and the Caribbeans, mainly had internal fighting or conflicts between rival tribes. While in Europe, the most tension occurred between major empires competing for trade, land, recourses, and wealth. However, once the Europeans began colonizing America, both of the worlds collided in a massive fight for sovereignty and wealth. This can be seen in each country s colonization of America. In the French colonization, the colonist traded advanced weaponry to the Huron tribe for fur and strong alliances. Consequently, the natives... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the colonial period, portrayed a time in which a variety of people were severely abused and many conflicts were provoked, there were also many positive sides towards the American colonization. This positive side promoted societal growth and increased numerous countries` wealth dramatically. For example, the English found an outlet to employ many of their low class peasants in their Chesapeake colonization, and also found a way to produce large amounts of rice, tobacco, and many more exports. In addition to obtaining expensive goods and recourses, American colonization gave European empires the opportunity to expand their rule across oceans. However, In some situations this reaped negative results, such as the British attempt to excessively control their colonies by unconstitutionally issuing new taxes. One can even go as far to say that American colonization led to the separation of the British empire. Thus, there were both positive and negative aspects towards American colonization, but if all the senseless deaths were worth the society we have today, will be a question debated for many ... • 11. Descriptive Essay About Taco Madre Taco Madre is a new Mexican restaurant that opened in Niles, IL. There were several reasons why this restaurant caught my eye. The interior was designed wonderfully but the location didn t seem like a good fit, the food was tasty, the people who went were from all age groups, and the music was entertaining. This restaurant had mostly pros with one con, but, overall, this is a restaurant that everyone should try because it has a taste of Mexico with a modern style. The first time I went to Taco Madre, I noticed the location right away. This restaurant recently opened in my area, so my friends and I decided to check it out and get a bite to eat. I noticed it was located next to Papa Johns and a Wings restaurant. Because, there are other restaurants surrounding the premises, it will create competition. My first impression was to dock some points because of where it was located, but the interior area made up for it. As I stepped inside the restaurant, the first thing that caught my eye was the walls because it had the same design as the menu. It struck out because the patterns of the flowers that were imprinted on the walls showed a lot of colors, which helped brighten the room and add a sense of dimension/comfort. Not only were the colors of the walls vibrant, but so was the salsa bar because it was presented with a wide range of spices to choose from. Moreover, Taco Madre had an excellent variety of food choices. Some of the food they served were tacos, burritos, and tortas. The menu was not overbearing like the Cheesecake Factory, but it was not limited like another restaurant. The aroma of the Mexican food would make anyone salivate, the food has always tasted fresh; plus, they put extra cilantro with a lime on the side. My friends and I combined the individual tables to make a gigantic seating arrangement suitable for the six of us. I ordered a Mahi mahi, which is fried fish; there is an option of flour or corn tortilla, and for dessert I ordered flan. The flan had vanilla ice cream, cherries, and whipped cream added to the top. The Mahi mahi was cooked to perfection, and the flan consisted of sugary ingredients, and the sweet taste filled my mouth. Another factor that struck out to me was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of A Thousand Splendid Suns AN ANALYSIS OF THE NOVEL A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS The opening of the novel sets the books foundation for the book s more macrocosmic themes.Nana refers to Mariam as HARAMI i.e illegitimate child in order to suggest that Mariam s birth was the consequence of an extra marital affair. The term HARAMI makes her upbringing as one that is illegitimate,a reference that ,Mariam herself makes in the later chapter. On the opposite side ,Jalil appears as the standard for legitimacy according to society.Yet,once he lets Mariam down and subsequently rejects her presence at his home, his legitimacy as a father is called in to question. In addition ,Jalil s relationship to Nana and Mariam displays his shame of his second family. On the other hand Nana s emphasis on Mariam learning to endure suffering not only suggest how bleak Mariam s future will be ,but also the type of lessons Mariam must have learned as a child in Nana s home.Ultimately throughout the rest of the novel ,Mariam s capacity for endurance is what allows her to survive horrible circumstances.Mariam s trip to herat which culminates Nana s suicide.once she attempts to reach Jalil ,she is exposed to the truth about his consideration for her as an outsider to his life. After her mother s death the simplicity of her life in Kolba ends ,and she is thrust in to adulthood. She is forced to get married to Rasheed ,who is 20 yr older than her.Rasheed forced her to act like a wife,he demands her to clean and cook, and he will ... Symptoms And Treatment Of Psoriasis The term comorbidity refers to the association of two distinct diseases in the same individual at a rate higher than expected by chance (Bonavita and De Simone, 2008). Although psoriasis has been previously thought to be a disease solely affecting primarily the skin and the joints, our understanding of the comorbidities that may be associated with this disease has grown significantly. Recent evidence has even suggested an increased over all risk of mortality in patients with severe psoriasis (Gelfand JM et al., 2007). (2008), supported previous reports of an association between psoriasis and diabetes mellitus. The age adjusted proportion of diabetes was found to be significantly higher in psoriasis patients as compared to the control group. A Market Based Approach For Community Development Essay Community is established locally but community development is a process that includes actors from inside and outside of the community to achieve sustainability. My previous essays have addressed the progression of community development from place based attachment, organizing and advocacy to addressing the need and effect of government involvement. The final stop on the continuum of the communitydevelopment is to analyze market based approaches to community development. This paper will look at how a market based approach to community development is an important component of community development because it is the appropriate response to the current socio economic, and political context that our country is in. A market based approach provides a mechanism to define relationships and allocate economic resources to create systemic change within communities. increasing opportunities for social inclusion and economic sustainability Social Sustainability 1.True community development exemplifies the relationship between the local actor and the interconnectedness that needs to exist to accomplish change. EU China economic relations: a brief overview Europe and China share a long history of bilateral relations and economic cooperation. Trade and economic exchanges go back as long as 20 centuries ago, when the Roman empire formed relations with ancient China in order to trade goods through the Asian continent. The capacity that makes each of us capable of warm, satisfying relationships also leaves us vulnerable to sadness, despair, and grief when such relationships are disrupted (Carr, 1969). Regardless of the actual relationship that might have existed prior to the death, we have the tendency to idealize the relationship once death has occurred and we expect expressions of normal grief. Unfortunately, normal grief is what society expects, but the needs of the individual prerequisites putting a label on grief. When examining whether anticipatory grief hinders conventional grief, Clayton, Halikas, Maurice, and Robbins (1973) found more depressive symptoms in the first month of bereavement in women who had experienced anticipatory grief. This would coincide with the theory of learned helplessness. If we cannot control our environment (death of a loved one) then we are at the mercy of the environment. For this reason there is no contingency between our response and the consequences. This leads to associative, motivational, and emotional deficits. The individual has no motive for anything, is under extreme stress, and becomes depressed, all leading to learned helplessness. In other words, our world has turned upside down and we have no control over it. Researchers also found that after one year these widows were no better off than widows who lacked such preparation. Their simple structure can be described as amino acid polymers as they are made up of many amino acid monomers stringed together in a linear fashion, which then gives rise to more complex structures, as various bonding and manipulation takes place. The name proteincomes from the Greek word meaning holding first place which supports the fact that they are essential to life. Proteins, depending on their structure and where they are found, play very different roles in an organism. One of the main types of proteins are enzymes which act as biological catalysts, and are fundamental to the chemical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An amino acid is made up of a carbon atom in the centre (known as the пЃЎ carbon), a carboxyl group, amino group, a hydrogen atom and an R group (figure 1). The R group is the section of the amino acid that determines its chemical properties. In glycine, the R group is hydrogen. Some of the amino acids have R groups that are hydrophobic and some have R groups that are hydrophilic and this often determines how the protein folds into its tertiary structure and also where they can be found within the cell. It is the sequence of these amino acids that determines the type of protein that is made. Amino acids join to form proteins in a process known as protein synthesis where a gene is expressed to produce a polypeptide chain. After the genetic code has been translated from the DNA in the nucleus, the resulting mRNA is transcribed into a polypeptide in the cytoplasm of the cell. The mRNA binds to a ribosome and has 3 base pairs exposed called a codon. The anticodon of a tRNA molecule can then bind to the codon as it has complementary base pairs, and it carries with it an amino acid. The first amino acid in the chain is always methionine. When a second tRNA, carrying a different amino acid arrives and binds, a peptide bond forms between the two amino acids and the resulting product is a dipeptide molecule two amino acids joined together. • 26. My House, And Household Apples After analyzing the five sections beginning with My House and Household Apples we can infer that the entire story is about people longing for love and looking for a life that s always blossoming and full of hope, only to find this dream dashed. In fact, we can infer this from the recurring themes and images that are portrayed throughout these sections. Like, the images of the trees and how the narrator describes them as not only beautiful but also as if they present a sense of endless opportunities. This idea is dashed though in the Household Apple s section when the man failed to spray the trees to prevent bugs from swarming them and the fruit they were grew. They [flies] were everywhere the fruit was: in the tree still apples like a hive for them or where the fruit littered the ground, squashing itself as you stepped...there was no help for it. The man can no longer climb the tree like he once did in which he saw the country sail away from him, and figuratively speaking the span of opportunities presented to him. Thus, the flies consuming the trees and preventing anyone from going near them is used to illustrate the end of these endless opportunities, of hope. The Polar Express All Aboard! : A Comparison and Contrast of The Polar Express Book and Movie The Polar Express is a classic children s Christmas story written by acclaimed author Chris Von Allsburg. Chris Von Allsburg writes and illustrates all of his books and won the Caldecott medal for The Polar Express. The Polar Express is a Christmas story of getting a kid to believe in Santa. The boy climbs aboard a train to go to the North Poleto see Santa. He is the one chosen to receive the first gift of Christmas, which was a silver bell off of the reindeers. They put this in the movie so it could build up to that scene as a climax to scare the viewers that something might happen. In the trailer for the movie, it even shows the train getting into an accident so the viewers will want to go see what happens to the train. As well as the movie adding the songs, it also added the kids getting a special ticket. Each child had a certain a letter at the beginning of their train ride, punched by the conductor. When the kids were done experiencing the North Pole, the conductor punched out a word pertaining to each kid. The main kid got the word believe punched into his ticket because he did not believe in Santa at the beginning of the movie. The African American girl got leader punched into her ticket because she was the one that always knew what to do. The poor boy, Billy, also got believe because he didn t think Santa was real either. This leads into the most important difference between the book and the movie. In the movie it depicts that going to the North Pole to see Santa was all a dream, while in the book it made it all seem real. When children go see this movie, they might think that since the boy is having a dream that Santa must not be real. A lot of research has been done about kids believing in Santa. African American Perspective in Early 20th Century America Throughout the era after the Civil War, Blacks struggled to show themselves and create an identity outside of the confines of slavery. There were many different ideas that display how Black should be perceived and how Blacks should carry themselves in order to uplift the race. Uplifting the race was one of the most influential ideas of the time. Miscegenation, sexuality, and education are just three of the issues that were influenced by the racial attitudes of the times. Many authors commented on these issues and the other issues of the time. Nella Larsen, Booker T. Washington, and Charles Chestnutt are three authors that share their views with their readers. Chestnutt shows the judge in the same struggle that he leaves his reader feelings. The customs of society say one thing; yet, true seems to be saying another. Chestnutt leaves his readers with this dichotomy in his book. Chestnutt balances between Larsen and Washington s views. He makes his reader think though the reasons why or why not miscegenation should or should not be allowed. Sexuality was also an issue for Blacks in this time period. Most black women were classified as either a respectable, almost asexual, lady or a whore. They were classified as a mammy or a jezebel. There was a dichotomy between what women were allowed to be. Sexual desire needed to be separate from respectability. And respectability was highly prized. Larsen s character Helga struggles greatly with this dichotomy between sexual desire and respectability. She has been taught to be a respectable woman in order to uplift the race and that black women should be perceived in a certain way. In a family, the children always belong to the father, not the mother. I have even heard that in some tribes a man s children belong to his wife and her family (74). Okonkwo appears appalled to this blasphemy. It is common and ideal for a husband to possess multiple wives, and men beat their wives for even the smallest infractions. During the Week of Peace, the goddess forbids wife beating, such as when Okonkwo beat Ojiugo. A society that employs morals, ethics, and accountability for peoples actions cannot be considered savage. The Ibo are highly religious; the base of most of their daily life revolves around religion, whether it is how they raise their families or how they grow their crops. The Feast of the New Yam was held every year before the harvest began, to honor the earth goddess (36). Yams control the Ibo economy, and if a person farmed well, success tended to follow. The Ibo village created a very stable economy due to this. The society itself is organized mostly by a person s title, which states their place in a sort of government. The Egwugwu act much like judges and the people themselves try to settle things peacefully between each other. During the Feast of New Yam, many enjoy the most popular recreational activity in the village: wrestling. Discuss critically. Introduction In the modern day world, with technology and global markets expanding, the need for credit is a constant issue for economies to monitor. Liquidity rationing has been most relevant since the GFC, when the credit market essentially froze, sending financial markets in turmoil. The market had grown to over €2.4 trillion by the end of 2008, compared with about €1.5 trillion in 2003 (ECBC, 2009). The lack of credit risk transfer with covered bonds is an important distinction with this asset class compared with, for example, asset backed securities (ABS) and other securities that were subject to securitization. This may well explain the resilience of the covered bond market at the initial stage of the crisis in August 2007. (Biswas, 2010) Investors affinity for covered bonds can be explained by their relative safety compared with any non securitized asset class. In relation to covered bonds, a pool of collateral backs the credit risk of the issuer, which is usually of high quality. Despite this, however, the covered bond market was not totally immune to the effects of the crisis. Up to the intensification of the crisis following the collapse of Lehman Brothers in mid September 2008, it was clear that the covered bond market had outperformed other wholesale funding instruments. The widening of spreads was much less substantial for covered bonds than other ABS and unsecured debt. In Home and Harem, Inderpal Grewal identifies travel as an institution of England. The voyage to new territories had sparked a new era filled with new opportunities and ideals in the European continent. Most importantly travel became an agent of English nationalism and was a key aspect in rise of imperialism. To expand England s domain of influence became a collective journey and eventually being a subject of England was equivalent to being imperialist. For people that could not travel, the guidebook acted as the object of mediation between authority and those it was imposed on (105). At the Metropolitan Museum, the Egyptian exhibit is also represented under a certain niche monitored by authority. The spectator culture may vary based on prior knowledge, but the carefully fabricated environment showcases how the controller authorizes representation within their domains. There is an unsettled discussion on the pertinence of imperialism to all classes in England. While some consider it just a concern of the nobility others link it to the manifestation of newborn nationalism and patriotism in all classes beginning from the mid 19th century. John Mackenzie in Propaganda and Empire and Imperialism and Pop Culture introduces the concept of generalized imperial vision as a counterview to the discussion. An important relationship that is shown in the visual text Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), directed by Gore Verbinski was between two main characters, Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner. Their relationship was one of the most important in the film as it shows us how these two characters have changed their perspectives of the world and most importantly, towards each other. There are several examples of how their relationship changes throughout. At the beginning of the film, Jack considers Will as a lame commoner and Will was quite stereotypical about Jack being a pirate . Their animosity and hatred were quite mutual given their respective backgrounds. As the movie progresses, this relationship is more about one s own benefits. They realise and understand each other s strengths and weaknesses well and use each other selfishly. Towards the end, this selfish attitude matures into friendship. At the beginning of the film, Jack and Will had completely different opinions about each other. Jack Sparrow, a clever, cunning and calculated man saw Will as a lay man and would find it hard to believe that they would become friends.
