The lessons to learn
to bring your communities together
Communities ?
You mean People interacting ?
No more communities
 on media websites.
(Well, sometimes, some tools...)
       Comments
(Well, sometimes, some tools...)
             Poll
(Well, sometimes, some tools...)
   Fantasy games...
The truth is that
     social media
      [ie Social Networks]

have blown our minds
over the last 2 years !
The goal [...] was one million page views a month.
[...] it was doing more than six times that number.
It works well...
but not the way we thought.
Because being on social networks
  isn't a stand-alone solution.
Yoo-hoo !

Presentation on facebook

« Fankurve ist eine Fußball-News-Seite
   des Sportressorts von stern.de.

           Diskutieren Sie
      mit Experten und Fans. »

A discussion ? Where ?

Only via RSS Feeds !
No discussion = no interaction = no community

At the end of the day
      = no audience
Lesson 1

Y# already know $at...

       Communities are people,
        people exchange ideas,
then take part in the discussion !
[same player shoot again. Sorry !]
First tweet ?
(and again rss feeds...)
Lesson 2

         Take your time,
be there at the earliest stage.

If you open an account somewhere
       it's to say something.
You can use social media
   for something else
     than audience.

Why ?
              . Easy to set up

                 . scalable

. using a tool that people are already using
       (easy for them to participate)
Does it work ?

    Well, 1 600 photos : not bad !

And at least one photo gallery

But they could have done better
          @theguardian
Community is about sharing

in all the available ways

The Guardian asked people to send photos,
but did The Guardian send its own photos
such as materials for bloggers for example ?
Lesson 3

When you ask people to participate
share some of your own content too.
Sometimes the buzz happens !
http://bit.ly/marcalendar
WOW !
19 000 tweets
218 000 likes !
44 million unique users
        (in June)

Lesson 4

Create great news, tools, services, etc.,
for your readers not for the stats.

They'll share them using social media
            if it's relevant.
    Then your stats should rise.
It's impossible to satisfy everyone

Lesson 5

     Innovation is the key,
 and it's (often) misunderstood
One
more
thing
Facebook, twitter, youtube, etc.
      did not even exist.
It seems that 2010
was the year of Social media
What's next ?
Will Fifa be the place to share ?
Will only mobile devices be relevant ?
Geosocial networks ?
Live In-stadium experience
        via mobile ?
What if you geolocalise people
into the stadium and invite them
to a party after the game ?
Finally

   Once an event is finished,
start thinking of the next one
 and make choices.
