Workshop
A workshop is a period of discussion or practical work on a particular subject in
which a group of people share their knowledge or experience.
OR
Workshop is defined as assembled group of people who share a common
interest or problem. They meet together to improve their individual and skill of a
subject through intensive study, research, practice and discussion.
OBJECTIVES OF
WORKSHOP
COGNITIVE OBJECTIVES:
1. To solve the problem regarding specific subject.
2. To provide the philosophical and sociological background for instructional and teaching
situation.
3. To identify the educational objectives in the present context.
4. To develop an understanding regarding the use of theme and problem.
AFFECTIVE OBJECTIVES:
1. To develop the skills to perform task independently.
2. To determine and use of teaching strategies effectively,
3. To train the persons for using different approach of teaching.
4. Workshop technique is used to seed, explore and identify the solution to a problem.
5. It is used for in-service teachers for giving awareness and training of new practice
education.
6. It provides an opportunity to prepare specific professional, vocational and community
service function.
Importance of
Workshop:
Workshops usually consist of a knowledgeable speaker who relays their
expertise in a charismatic and eloquent way. Their journey, methods, and idea
may inspire the students in attendance to increase their productivity and
improve their skills and ideas. They also get inspired and would to put the new
concepts they learned into action. This feeling of inspiration that people usually
have on leaving a workshop boosts a person’s desire to attend workshops.
 Building new connections, whether personal or professional, is an important
part of growing up. Workshops present you with the opportunity to meet new
people and form a network. They are the best place to meet like-minded
individuals. You could also get to know the expert better and gain more
knowledge from him. The expert could provide you with further guidance and
help in the future.
 Workshops teaches you about new technologies, new ways of reaching your
goals and, new concepts. The expert that conducts the workshop tries different
ways to attract the attendees.
Workshops urge you to learn new subjects in a different environment. This
helps you explore different fields and step out of your comfort zone. Stepping
out of your comfort zone is important as it promotes personal growth. It helps
you gain new skills and learn about new subjects.
 The workshops may provide you with new insights. Just the prospect of going
to a workshop and learning something completely unrelated to your course
would refresh your mind.
 It could reinvigorate your mind and enable you to go to work the next day with
fresh new ideas and energy. The expert could also be a source of inspiration and
help you with a new approach.
Essential features of Workshops
1. Complete active involvement by the participants.
2. The whole point of attention is to work and learn from practical experiences.
3. Participants may have to work as reporters or leaders.
Principles of
workshop
1. Allowing the participant to prepare and select objectives to be reached will
increase the participant’s motivation. Giving the participants an active role will
make teaching more. Improve a person’s attitude towards other people. Learn
better human relations.
2. Giving the participants an active role will take teaching more effective. Every
individual have worth and contributes to the common goals.
3. Cooperation is a technique and a way of life that is superior to competition and is a
primary factor to be allowed. Workshop should focus on the current issues in the
profession to be discussed. Workshop should be conducted with full cooperation within
organizers.
Pre-Requisites:
1. Every workshop must have a goal; clear goal should be kept at the center of
the discussion.
2. Decide the target group knowing who will participate directly refers to the
objectives Make a list of people who needs to be there. Try to be as specific as
possible, but leave a few openings for last-minute additions.
Advantages of
workshops
1. Knowledge improvement: while doing workshops, participants share ideas
with others member in their group; they also learn from other groups’
presentations. Participants have different ideas, knowledge, experiences and
backgrounds. After the workshops, they will apply the skills and knowledge they
have learned to their current jobs.
2. During the workshops, all the participants meet and talk in order to get to
know each other; attending workshops is good opportunity to network. Through
networking, one can have chance for job advancement and business expansion
as well.
3. In the periods of workshops, each group is required to identify problems and
possible solutions for the given topics. It involves possible solutions to a specific
problem. All the participants discuss the topics on the problems, questions,
ideas, and solutions. This time, they identify problems, raise questions, share
ideas, and give possible solutions, and finally they can reach an agreement with
the best solutions.
