The Movie “Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song” And the Black Community
Commentators often need African American film producers to impose a good image of these black Americans and to prevent perpetuation of degrading images. Such was the aim of the moral war that surrounded application of inverted images from blaxploitation movies. The vague political situation of the inverted images as well became a hindrance to several studio films, in view of some critics, to have political and aesthetic equality with those ones that depicted other Third Cinema symbolic imagery[footnoteRef:1]. Concerning blaxploitation era movies, the rough estimate of their aesthetic value appeared to have impacted the appraisal related to their political value. Most of the blaxploitation era film producers were considered very conservative due to derivations from Hollywood convention, insofar as their defamers have always disregarded African American audience citing their response[footnoteRef:2]. The urge to audience response in evaluating a black film depends on the desire to explain the objection-oriented and the subversive aspects in studio movies associated to a hybrid, text and polyvocal. Anyway, although it remains debatable the level to consider reception of African American audience outdoes other criteria. Thus, this paper will discuss how the movie “Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song” represents Africa and the black community (revolutionary). [1: Wayne, Mike. Political film: the dialectics of third cinema. Pluto Press, 2001.] [2: Symmons, Tom. "The Historical Film in the Era of New Hollywood, 1967-1980." PhD diss., Queen Mary University of London, 2013.

It is critical to notice that audience reception mostly consider mainstream African American films, as they do have a huge appeal to the same kind of audiences. Despite several explanations that come up due to absence of black audience in relation to black cinema, supreme are aesthetic concerns. The UCLA school films refrained from using Hollywood narratives, while these narratives often served frequently alongside racial coding in period of blaxploitation Hollywood movies. In reaction to Gerima’s criticism to do with Sweetback’s Hollywood mode, Van Peebles deduces a point concerning aesthetic values as well as African American audiences that need carefully precaution[footnoteRef:3]. Peebles insisted that reaching black audiences with a socially sound message necessitated a proper distinction between a general Third Cinema and mainstream based orientations from a market view. The necessity for having marketing considerations to decide aesthetic basis of an African American film is the application of Hollywood conventions in taking over the movie’s political message. As a matter of fact, the African ...

Presentation on review of documentary (The Samjhauta Express)Zaibunnisa73
The documentary is about a frontier railway line of 500 km which carries the cross border train between India and Pakistan named as The Samjhauta Express. This documentary also covers an emotional journey of some passengers. In start of the documentary, the narrator tells us about the conflicts between these two borders but the one thing which bond these two states together is the railway line of Samjhauta Express. The border line was drawn by British judge in 1947 and Samjhauta Express was started in 1976 after Shimla agreement. Despite all the conflicts, both countries establish this gate-way to reunite the people with their families after the partition. Samjhauta Express carries passengers twice in a week from both countries and almost 50,000 people in a year. Delhi station has special platform and security for this service. The British build Lahore railway station is also very similar to Dehli station. In Walton academy at Lahore station, staff and drivers were trained. Both railway stations provide platforms to sportspersons and give training to them for cricket and hockey and those players play for the stations.

News is mass media report about any event, idea or situation that is timely, and is of relevance to a large number of people. Current happening, Out of ordinary and unusual things becomes the news.
The theory talks about the relationship between minority and majority of people and how they express themselves. It proves minority people keep silent on their views on any particular subject.
A logical structure is important for any story because affective organization makes writing easier. After struggling with the lead, a professional communicator can choose from a number of structures that will help him/her organize the rest of the story.
A news program, news show, or newscast is a regularly scheduled radio or Television programme that reports current events. A news program can include live or recorded interviews by field reporters, expert opinions, opinion poll results, and occasional editorial content.
News programmes aim to provide a broader view of the day’s news, summarizing the best stories of the day instead of the hour. Length usually ranges from 20 to 60 minutes. Items are generally longer and more detailed than those in a bulletin and more sophisticated, using actualities or film footage, stills and graphics. Some shorter stories may also be incorporated to increase the breadth of coverage. If a programme is to gain audience loyalty, it will have to establish a clear identity and have a greater balance and variety of material than a bulletin.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Portrayal of Violence in
Hollywood Films
2. • Aggressive attitude and behavior that will cause injury to
self and others.
• violence is a socially, legally, morally deviant human activity.
• Gang Violence, Domestic Violence, Wars, bloodshed,
Sexual Violence etc. etc.
Violence in Films:
3. • Violence is an important part of Hollywood films in order to depict the
sensational and explicit appeal. Films under the genre of gangster
and war featured violence as the central theme of the film. The
featuring of violence in these movies had to be accounted and was
justified rationally.
• Violence is very attractive in films, conflicts are often built around
violence, and it is a very effective mechanism used to sell films.
• 91 percent of Hollywood movies or television contained violence,
even extreme violence. Several researchers have described an
increase of violent content in movies, despite a national rating
system.
4. • The American film industry relies heavily on conventional
patterns of cinematic treatment called “genres.” Leading
American films are distributed across 11 distinct genres:
action, adventure, animation, comedy, drama, family, horror,
romance, science fiction, thriller.
• Violence has long been basic to the definition of the action
and western genres, but other genres such as comedy and
drama have also increased the amount and severity of
violence depicted.
5. • Violence has always been a part of American movies, starting
from the first film to be distributed widely, The “Great Train
Robbery” , which contained an optional reel of gunplay left to
the discretion of the local projectionist. Glucksmann cited
figures from the 1930s in which 45 murders and more than
400 crimes were depicted in 115 separate crime films, and
from the 1950s in which more than 650 crimes or acts of
violence were identified in 100 selected films from that era.
6. • Use of extreme violence by many in the current generation of
filmmakers means that, by repetition and overfamiliarity,
violence is no longer as fraught with meaning as it once was.
Violence may be used to move the film's story forward with
conflict and narrative structure in place of more difficult tasks
involving the development of story and character.
• Over time seem to become acceptable, perhaps even
expected by the modern viewing audience.
7. o 1. Thematic justification: in this, the theme of the movie or the
background will show social disorder and loss of control in the
country, and war is used as a way to bring peace and order to that
country. thus violence is justified as it is bringing social order and
resulting in a positive outcome.
o 2. Violence as a necessary part of patriotism: all soldiers of war are
shown and praised as heroes in the movies. thus during the time of
war, fighting was seen as a way of expressing your patriotism for
your country and the violence involved in fighting was seen as
necessary part of being patriotic.
Portrayal and justification of violence in
Hollywood:
8.
9. o 3. Ideological justification: the USA justified the violence and killing in
war by providing ideological excuses such as “we fight for the right to
be free”, “we fight for democracy” etc.
o 4. War as a rite of passage: under this justification, the hero or the
character will be shown as an irresponsible, carefree teenager who
goes to war to fight and learns the lessons of life there. after fighting in
battles, the boy comes back home as a wise and mature man. thus
violence is playing the role of a teacher, transforming juvenile boys into
responsible citizens. and thus, violence is justified.
10.
11. o 5. Alienation and dehumanizing the enemy : here, the enemy is
not seen as human and is portrayed as evil and monstrous and
thus killing them is justified.
12. o 6. Oversimplified Dichotomy : a war is a result of many complex
problems. there is good and bad in both sides in the war. thus,
it becomes difficult to choose which side to support. but
Hollywood war film would over simplify complex situation in to a
simple choice between good and evil: showing the USA as
good and the enemy as bad, thus forcing audiences to support
the USA in the war. this is also a bias that can be observed in
most war movies.
13.
14. The Attraction of Violence in Films:
• Violence on films has definite entertainment value.
• It is sensational and a powerful aspect of the contemporary
entertainment spectacle.
• Violent depiction in movies undoubtedly heighten the emotions
viewers experience and continue to explain that film makers are very
much aware of this fact and thus use it as a techniques for holding
the audience‘s attention.
• Violence in film has become a norm and in many cases is preferable
for entertainment as opposed to non-violent films.
