The explosion of technology enabled just-in-time information through search capability together with the proliferation of social media tools, including smart phones, has resulted in increased on-line connectivity, mobility and group interaction. Flowing from that are growing expectations that the way people communicate and organise their lives outside of work, is also appropriate at work. At the same time we are witnessing an extension to the learning dimension of work as a demand from businesses for improved performance from employees who are, through mobile technologies, readily “available” outside normal working hours. Overall there is an increasing assimilation of work, learning, community and life and, within all these factors, much discussion about “informal” learning has emerged. Used broadly to describe learning that occurs at the moment of need in an un-structured manner, it is almost the antithesis of formal (structured) learning in the classroom and/or by distance learning methods.
This was the slides I researched for sometime to help my organization to build a Community of Practice to support Innovation culture. I will be very pleased if you can share your experience relate on how to build a successful CoP.

Presented at ISPIM 2008 Conference, Tours, France together with Anu Suominen, co-writen with Heli Aramo-Immonen and Kaj Koskinen. Received Best Student Paper Award.
This presentation explores some common denominators that bond professionals, such as economic environment and career planning, and variations that distinguish each one, like individual’s whole person and career path. On top of the list for planning one’s own career is to understand one’s self as a whole person. What is important to you? Do you have a balanced outlook of life? Are there risk factors that might tip you off balance? What constitutes a rewarding career? Do you take charge of your own career?
The new career reality reflects that professionals face less opportunity to obtain advancement in the midst of downsizing, outsourcing, offshoring, restructuring and delayering. A new trend in employment also emphasizes the selection of candidates for the best ‘fit’ (not best ‘qualified’) with a position, boss, team, and company culture.
Do you keep an open mind to learn, adapt, take action, and choose the future? The career coach introduces a framework for planning professional career and personal actions. Despite uncertainties, take inventory of your behavioral repertoires and knowledge portfolio in terms of strengths and weaknesses. These competencies are assessable and improvable for desired career results and outcomes.
Practical experience of Scrum through project-based learning mediated by ICT ...Sergio Yazyi
Scrum is a framework for agile project management of growing interest in different application fields, to assimilate its principles and practices conceptual training is not enough, a hands-on approach is needed to allow excercising it through “learning by doing”. In this work we analyze a workshop experience which simulates the application of Scrum in a project of limited scope mediated by ICT with a distributed team. The conceptual foundations of the different elements that converge in this case are presented: the project-based learning methodology, the distributed teamwork and the Scrum framework. Following by a case study of the experience developed extracting a pedagogical pattern that allows to identify the key elements to its success in order to facilitate its replication. The result of this analysis will assess the potential for transfering this type of learning to other situations with different objectives but with the same need for team interaction and distributed context, at the same time to perceive Scrum potential to be incorporated into a project-based learning teaching strategy, for its simplicity and its important effects on team learning and development of key competencies.
